On the one hand my body is now extremely specific about the Exact Food it wants to urgently eat but on the other hand it means I go to the grocery store like….every day……do they notice me going every day….
i have been reading through the diary I kept from ages 14-17 and realising how helpful it can be to keep a record of how you're feeling at different moments.
not only is it helpful to write down and process how your feeling and give yourself time to truly think about it, it's nice to have something to look back on. to not just remember how you felt about a certain situation but to actually have yourself from that time tell you.
and also, from an adhd perspective, it's really lovely to have reminders of things I'd almost entirely forgotten. it's easy to think that your life right now isn't interesting, but in 5 years time? to know what songs you were listening to or book you were reading or even that Thing that you were so worried about but now you can't even remember the details. it's nice to have a physical reminder that time passes and things really can get better.
one thing i really wish people wouldn’t forget when it comes to suguru’s character is that his core desire is just to have a family. not in a nuclear family way, but in a “i want a place where i belong / i want to protect the ones i love” way…… literally everything else is just an extension of that desire. a means to meet that end. he broke down after being forced to realize that staying with his family meant having to watch them die, so he left and made a new one. and he got stronger. and his core wish was always, always always to create a world where he’d finally be able to protect them :(((((((((
Hello-hello internet! Once again I am trying to post my art, let's hope I don't abandon this attempt! :D
y'all probably know me as @soul-teller, or the Dancing Strabby blog - well this is my new Jam Cat art blog, welcome! 👌
and, of course, I open up with Spamton doodles and some oc/au/headcanon things, for the brainrot is real and I love him (click to see in better quality!)
watching ransom for a dead man and a bit :( about the "working for a woman" comment! any thoughts? would love your insight - not sure whether it's him being legitimately Sexist or it's part of him trying to buddy up to the attorney guy for info and failing
luckily, columbo is too intelligent for that brand of sexism.
best trial attorney eh? hell i'd kill my dumb boring husband too. oop sorry sir did i say that out loud
he's not quite trying to "buddy up" to her secretary per se, nor does he actually feel this way. here, he's trying to gauge the man's reaction/opinion of her in order to both find out more about her as a person and supplement his working theory that she orchestrated the murder. columbo does that often--he asks questions in roundabout ways that disarm people, make him appear dumb/impotent (important!), and are usually more conducive to getting answers than asking point blank, answers that are sometimes as subtle as shifts in facial expression.
here, he actually doesn't fail the info check--his hypothesis is reaffirmed. a full-fledged male lawyer in an era of burgeoning second-wave feminism not only doesn't mind working for a woman, he's happy to and extolls her skill! columbo is right to assume that this man is an outlier for his time and ask him his opinion by opening with a negative assumption. would he have gotten the same enthusiasm if he'd asked more directly? likely not.
columbo is also aware of how foolish the question sounds considering the woman behind it. Lady Lawyer Leslie breaks stereotype after stereotype, establishing herself immediately as a highly independent woman of her time: she's childless, a pilot with her own airplane, and in 1971, three years before women could open credit lines without a man's cosignature in the US, considered one of the top trial attorneys in the state of california. she's cold, calculating, daring, and most importantly smart as hell. columbo totally drops the act to tell her that, which is saying something.
when you spend so long investigating a sexy lady murderer who's just as genius as you are that you close the case in total awe of her
so his little remark does not reflect his actual beliefs.
there are times when columbo will push the bounds of chivalry and step into more benevolent sexism, treating women especially gently with extra care and attention, sometimes even acting more susceptible to their wiles than he actually is. he admits his own bias:
must be nice to prety ladie...
but he has no reservations nor presumptions about any woman's ability based on gender. morals aside, he'd be a pretty shitty detective if he did. imagine how much worse at his job he'd be if he were closed-minded!
I love the idea of Irwin "animatedly" doing anything. Somehow I never picture the abrasive, ascetic, brawler colonists as very "animated" characters, but maybe he's just trying to make the lesson engaging for the little guy. I bet Irwin is a great teacher.
Also, yeah, we got a dinosaur. His randomly generated name is Swampy. I have not had the courage to attempt drawing him yet. Dinosaurs are awesome but also very tricky to draw.
Irwin and Andy continued to hang out for a little while, playing with axes as every reasonable adult looking after a three-year-old would do.
But, alas, while teaching the child about mathematics and biology and tree-felling, it appears Irwin's abrasive trait has also been noticed. Kids do learn from example, but I guess nobody told Irwin that.
I love how you do color! Do you have some tips you could share?
I have some tips here that I still think apply! It's probably best to have a look at those first, but here are some others also, with our friends the frog and red panda as my model,
Personally I prefer pastel colours, but sometimes bolder colours work better on things like posters, and it works better on artwork representing anger and high energy whereas pastel colours make things seem peaceful and calm.
Pinterest is a really good place to look for colour references and I have a colour board you can check out here that I'm always adding to! Using photos taken from life and photography is usually OK, but never copy or steal anyones work.
You can combine colours using different pens! This works best with pastel colours and looks nice with drawings with sunsets in the background. And lastly,
Changing the colour of the lineart can look good too! There's nothing wrong with the classic black line art, but sometimes adding colour to your lineart can be nice and create a unique look to your work. I found it looks best when you use the colour opposite to the colour you've been using or the same colour you've been using but darker. It's worth noting that different colour combos look good to different people so be sure to experiment with what colours look good to you!
i think a lot abt all the hugs i got from random dude bros doing delivery back when i worked my warehouse job when my not at all hiding my transness ass would hand these college guys $40, $50 dollar tips because i knew it was hard and i was lucky in that time. I really hope they all made it, they all told me about their big college dreams and talked about their friends and how they would pay it forward. they always asked if a hug was okay every single time. people arent bad they really arent and sometimes i think its nice to hear that i as a very clockable trans woman was loved and appreciated beyond measure by random strangers bringing me a pizza and i wont forget them.
