for all intents and purposes this post is /neu, but I never understood the reasoning that slugshipping was weird because they're animals
(Doing a read more cause it's a bit longer than I expected it to be)
I'm not going to argue that slugcats aren't animals, bc they are, but it's weird to me to imply that animals can't form bonds that humans wld qualify as romantic? We don't know how animals feel about one another but they can definitely sustain positive and negative relationships, animals will care for and recognize each other, both in their own and other species.
Slugcats are also closer to sapient than a lot of animals who already exhibit these traits are. They're clearly social animals, they live in colonies, they are able to draw, they are smart enough to receive the Mark of Communication and understand iterators to an extent, they are also fully able to learn and use language w/o it, they can use tools... They are actually a lot closer to early humans then just slugs or cats in terms of intelligence.
It's really not far-fetched for these animals to care for each other, to raise young as families and to have preferred companions. Maybe the feeling would not be romantic love as we humans define it. But does that really matter?
Idk if anyone has any thoughts on this, you're free to talk to me about it cause I am interested in hearing ppl out, but the logic just doesn't track to me, I guess. I understand not liking slugshipping bc it bends canon a lot, or just not seeing an interest in it, but I've seen people say it's straight up weird/bad because the slugcats are animals and I'm just. I don't get it I guess

I’m not going to reblog the post itself because I don’t want that behavior on my blog, but oh my god I just saw a post about “looking for fics about your favorite character on ao3” and good lord the amount of bad takes both in that post and in the notes?? I have to just ramble about this for a moment because oh my god. it was ludicrous.
people were complaining that, and get this, unfinished fics exist. and that if you read an unfinished fic you’ll have to, get this, wait to read more until it’s published next. they were allll up in arms that there’s fics for a character that don’t cater to their specific interests. that they involve other characters and either do/don’t put them in a romantic relationship when they want the opposite for the character.
like at this point, most of you people in the notes on that post are 1) just being mean and condescending about FREE WORKS you can, may I remind you, READ FOR FREE and EXIT at ANY time! if you don’t like it!, don’t read it!, it’s so simple!, and 2) straight up do not know how ao3 works lmao
like I saw soooo many people in the notes complaining about a certain ship, dynamic, tag, etc, and like… y’all know you can filter by romantic vs platonic pairings, by ratings, by excluding certain tags or other qualifiers, etc etc etc… you know about ao3’s actually incredibly usable filtering and searching system… right… right??
at this point I’m just convinced a lot of these people are spoiled by large fandoms with 100k+ works for their characters and have decided to just be mean and condescending for no reason on main, about literally free fan works you can read for free any time that people spend hours and hours pouring their free time into out of sheer love for their craft. cuckoo bananas behavior if you ask me 🫠
I was legit so close to commenting that maybe they should try shipping two characters with <10 fics, with 0 fics, try liking a rare pair, try hyperfocusing on a character or niche type of fandom with a tiny but lovely circle of fans, and stop treating fan works and fic as Content TM that they deserve to have handed to them that caters to exactly what they want for free and maybe they’ll calm down lmao
like y’all aren’t cool you’re just being mean. we fundamentally approach fic in wildly different ways and honestly the way you do sounds exhausting. literally could not be me, I’m to busy finding joy in shared love for characters and not flipping the table in a rage because there’s one (1) element of the fic that isn’t specifically catered to me, maybe try that and you’ll feel better, hmm?
and yeah I’m aware that last sentence is me being condescending towards them, but frankly it’s warranted when so many people are being that mean and haughty for no reason lmao but truly those takes were horrific. fellow fic writers and even fellow fic readers I interact with, am mutuals with, authors whose works I read, readers who comment and interact with my works, fans of niche fandom subsets that run in the same circles as me— I hope you know this is so wildly not how I approach fics, I love just finding fics for my characters and forming these lil communities where we share our interests and love for them and hype each other up. I love what we have in these fandom niches and I hope you know I would never dream of being so mean and condescending towards y’all. fic writers and readers and fan communities are so special and I cherish it even if clearly there’s people in the notes on that other post who don’t know how to do that lmao. I love your unfinished WIPs, I love your fics that may only partially be what I’m looking for, I love when you write characters in a way I wouldn’t expect but shows your love for your particular headcanon, I love the variety and diversity and variance in fic. I love us. genuinely. fic writer moots I am hugging all of you and I frequently reread your works, even the unfinished ones. ♡

ngl i was so confused for the last few mins of the episode. like what was going on?
oh same anon same. like i wasn’t particularly mad or disappointed about how anything went plot-wise, that was fine. I guess i was just expecting the climax to be… bigger?? they set up this grand conspiracy for the whole show just for it to end like that?? it’s not that i think the resolution is anticlimactic either, just delivered in a weird way. like if thua had his whole moment and it wasn’t all brushed away as some ‘student film stunt’ and then we actually got to see the characters deal with the fall out, bc we kinda did with akk having his emotional moments and ayan getting it all out in front of chadok, i more mean thua dealing with any consequences of what he did. he did all this stuff and then 10 seconds later they’re all… fine??? playing happy families making a film???? idk it just seems weird that kan and wat were so conformational with akk for what he did and then they just apparently let that go, then no one stays mad at thua, nor does anyone have anything to say about namo, when people finding out the truth was built up to be such a huge thing this whole time. and that’s what i wanna see, I wanna see the fallout and anger and them reconciling, even if it is rushed, i still wanna see it. characters can’t act like this and then be fine in the next scene, it just ruins continuity more than anything. plus i feel like the whole outing thing was just… not right?? im not mad that they did it, but for a universe that clearly has homophobia and in an environment where all this conformist shit is so clear, it’s not that i want to see that, it’s more i would’ve liked to have seen akk having to deal with that. being outed when you yourself are not 100% comfortable with your sexuality is a big and difficult thing and it would’ve been so interesting to see akk deal with that. but no, it’s like they said actually we’ve done enough character growth we’re ending here it was nice while it lasted. so yeah, the ep just had this weird vibe. no part of the resolution felt like it resolved anything and yes i fucking love seeing them all happy and being sweet but it still doesn’t change the fact that it doesn’t feel right. it really does feel like i missed half an ep and yet when i go back to find it, it just isn’t there.
