i think so. i imagine xanthe found him and yumaris approaching phos astos and could hardly stay away from them during the short time they stayed. her first time meeting updwellers, you see. she only really talked to shane, though, because yumaris never spoke to her, only whispering strange things in shane's ear.

xanthe met shane before his transformation began, but the sight of him and the name he gave -- his true name -- were, of course, insignificant to her. (how could she know?) yumaris never provided her name, and shane did not supply it in her stead. xanthe referred to her as "the old woman". conor and meilin were intrigued to learn that there had been humans in sadre before them, and recently at that, but xanthe never got far enough into her story to reveal the boy's name and appearance to anyone but takoda. these were throwaway details that meant nothing to the monk. both sides of the war managed to keep the truth of the devourer's identity hush-hush, and outlying communities across erdas such as takoda's had no idea.

xanthe and shane unexpectedly meet again in the aftermath of the burning tide, when shane sails abeke and rollan to their reunion with the underground explorers. it's hard for xanthe to connect the shane who abruptly descended into her world to the new one standing before her, with scales and claws and haunting eyes. but it's him! the first updweller she ever met! what a small world.

relationships can be tricky. they’re complicated enough on their own, but when one of them is a famous athlete, it’s ten times worse. it’s ten times more scrutinizing. mason was no stranger to this. he knew the struggle of trying to navigate a relationship while in the spotlight is what had caused his previous ones to end, most of the time anyway.

before, you’d had the privilege of watching each of these breakups from the sidelines. alongside the general public, you saw the invasive tabloid shots and the weekly cheating scandal headlines. unlike the general public, being masons friend gave you the inside scoop of how frustrating it was to have these flings blow up before they could turn into something serious. 

but now, after years of you both denying your feelings for each other, you were finally together. and mason was going to make sure this didn’t end up like his previous romances had, you were far too important for him to lose. you were special, permanent. home. thus, you made the mutual decision to keep it a secret from the world and even your friends. it was just the wisest choice while you both learned how to handle your relationship being a topic lots of people would have opinions on.

you two had always been attached at the hip, so no one grew suspicious when your allotted hang outs grew more frequent. you were both affectionate people, so no one raised an eyebrow when you had to be touching in some way. it was a known fact that you both had been hurt in past relationships so no one questioned why you both weren’t rushing to go on dates with other people. it was all perfectly normal.

it had been infuriating having to refrain from kissing each other silly in front of others. it had been annoying having to keep sneaking over to each other's houses, making sure no one saw- especially since mason always had some mates around at his place. worst of all, it had been tiresome having to keep up this ruse in front of your friends and everyone else (mason wanted the world to know he was the one guy lucky enough to call you his own. you wanted to shout from the roofs how much space mase took up in your heart- all of it). you felt horrible lying to your loved ones, but the guilt went down a smidge when you remembered why you were doing it. when you remembered how quick things went to shit in his past relationships.

you two were about to hit the seven month mark on your relationship- setting aside the previous 4 years of friendship and a “will they, won’ they?” debate amongst your friend group. you pondered about how nothing would really change if you let your friends in on the truth, if anything they’d be relieved you finally got together. it was the people outside of your circle that worried you. you knew you’d become the main discussion in sleazy gossip magazines and new rumors about the pair of you would roll out every day. no, you didn’t want to put each other through that. you’d do it when the time was right.

it had been a sunny morning in london, quite unusual and quite nice. having spent the night at masons, you both woke up still in your love bubble from the previous night. standing in the kitchen, you were in charge of mixing the blueberries into the pancake batter, while he was on ‘flipping them before they burn’ duty (and he was at a 75 percent success rate). 

“not really.” mason shrugged, “if i tell ben, he’ll tell conor, who’ll tell kai, who’ll tell christian, who’ll tell reece, and soon enough potter will be trying to give me dating advice. now that’s really the last thing I need. ”

you couldn’t help but laugh at that, carrying your pancake-stacked plates to the living room. after settling on which show to watch, you nestled into his side and began eating and conversing. the tv served as more of some background noise, while you basked in each others presence and caught up on life. between his training and your studies (and all then sneaking around), you’ve hardly had the time to just be together. 

“we should do something today, a boyfriend-girlfriend thing.” you mused. 

“a boyfriend-girlfriend thing?” 

“yeah do something a normal boyfriend and girlfriend would do. every time we try, we do it ‘as friends’ or invite someone else along with us. remember how every sunday afternoon we used to go to the park and eat ice cream and just talk?” 

“yeah because we were just friends, it was the only time we could really talk.” mason wondered aloud, “though it has been a while, why’d we stop doing that?”  

“because we got busy doing each other.”

he snorted at that, “we could go later but honestly, im proper tired and want to stay like this a bit longer.”

“see! we’ve gotten too lazy! we opt out of a ten minute walk to the park just to stay laid up on the sofa.”

“but it’s because you look so pretty like this, you have to understand that.” mason pouts, pulling you into his lap and resting his head on your shoulder. he’s not lying, he really does think you look the prettiest when you’ve just woken up and have the sunshine hitting your face. what a view, he thinks. he’s already pulling out his phone before his mind can process what he’s doing. he just has to add this moment into the ever growing collection of pictures he has of you.

he had planned to press a kiss to your cheek but you’d had the same idea. at the last second, with both of your heads turning and no communication, the picture ends up being a blurry selfie of kissing the corner of each others lips. 

“send it to me? please?” you aim for a kiss again, this time on his stubbled jaw. you think its the cutest photo. it perfectly encapsulates how blissfully happy you are in these mundane scenarios. 

“mhm.” mason begins to absentmindedly tap on his phone, too busy enjoying the trail of kisses you're leaving on his face. suddenly, you feel his fingers freeze on the screen and his body tense up.

“everything okay, love?” one last kiss is placed right under his ear.

“well I definitely sent it to you.” you notice his cheeks are now turning an alarming shade of red.

“mase?” he gives no answer, eyes still glued to the screen and fingers still hovering over it. you reach for your own phone that had been discarded on the coffee table. 

well shit shit shit. yeah, he had definitely sent it to you. and to ben and christian and kai and reece and thiago and conor and kepa and every other person in your 30 member group chat that had been made to plan a surprise birthday party a few weeks ago.

“mason mount! what the hell did you just do?” your body began to tense up just as he had.

“I don't know! I saw your name and just clicked on the chat. I didn’t know it was the bloody group one! this is all your fault!”

“mine?” this causes you to snap your eyes to him. the nerve of this man, you swear.

“yes, yours! this wouldn’t have happened if you hadn’t been kissing me. you know what it does to me, you know i'm weak to your seductions.” he adds an accusatory finger point for good measure. 

before you can bite back, the photo on your screen captures your attention again. it’s all over, you mourn in your head. our peaceful little bubble has popped. 

now mason feels like absolute shit, watching you stare at the phone in your hands. as if you’re staring into the void, looking at the picture you can't unsend. he kisses your bare shoulder, “i’m sorry, baby. they might not even check the chat-”

“we all check our messages,” bens voice cuts through, as him and kai walk through the doorway. “baby.”

you hide your face in the crook of masons neck, too embarrassed to exchange pleasantries. you try to bury yourself deeper into his side when you hear their snickers grow louder and an abundance of kissing noises. 

“so we have some news for you guys.” mason sheepishly laughs.

“and we’re really, really sorry we didn’t tell anyone before.” you mumble from your self-exiled hiding spot.

“don’t be sorry, you just helped me win £200 from conor.” ben pats your arm as he takes a seat next to you guys. 

“you were betting on us?” mason scoffs.

“conor was betting against us?” you ask, incredulously. 

“no,” kai responds in a heartbeat. “he just thought it’d take another six months for mason to man up and finally tell you. you know, so we don’t have to hear him talk about how “amazing” you are the entirety of training.”

you turn your face to look at mason as kai does the finger quotes when he says “amazing”, who is now blushing harder than before. just because he tells everyone that you’re the best person he knows doesn’t mean you have to know, too. 

“yeah okay, don't flatter yourself.” he mumbles, squeezing your chin.

“I can't believe they know now.” you whisper-laugh at mason, not having gotten up from his lap through this all. “how am i supposed to act like i’m too cool for you when we all hang out?”

“oh, cmon!” ben snorts. “like we never notice how you disappear together at the end of every night.”

you and mason share a look. “we didn’t realize you’d all seen that.”

“yeah, well we’ve seen it all.” kai grimaces. “including what you did in the locker room last week.”

a week had come and gone, questions had been asked from all your friends. when and how this relationship had started, had been established. the sexual questions had been asked and answered with a “fuck off” from mason. as shy as you had been, you were ready to go out and hang out with everyone, as a couple. yes, you’d been doing that for the past few months but no one had really known. 

now it was okay for you two to be next to each other and touching at all times (as if you hadn’t done that already). now everyone knew you were sitting on his lap and whispering sweet nothings into each other's ears, not just as really good friends, but as a lovesick couple. now it was funny to flip everyone off when they had booed because you and mason had shared a brief kiss, once or twice or nine times. 

“will you get mad if I say that i’m happy we told them?”

“we?” you lightly hit his chest. “you and your horrible attention span told them.”

“and? you still love me, anyways.”

“I tolerate you at best, mount.”

one kiss to your cheek. another kiss to the other cheek. a kiss on your nose. one more on your chin. two kisses on your cheeks again. and by the time his lips met yours, you knew you’d like to spend forever like this.

Sing street

it’s like a band au/high school au, set in dublin during the 80s. Conor starts a band to impress a girl, there is a cool older brother, costumes, a lot of music references and a severe catholic school. if you liked the cadence of part-time poets you will like this one, it’s less angsty but the vibe is here (dublin version instead of london). the band is very fun and eamon is cute and loves rabbits.

Été 85

wolfstar vibe, very angsty but beautiful beautiful story. the character gives huge wolfstar vibe and their relationship too. it’s one of my favorite movie, it’s so beautiful, it’s shot on 16mm film so ot feels very authentic and it takes place in france, on the seaside in normandy during summer. alex meets david who has a motorbike and always got a comb on him for his hair. i love it so so much, if you love to read wolfstar angst you will love this one.

Boy meets world

it’s a sitcom about correy and him growing up with his best friend shawn, his girlfriend topanga and his family. correy and shawn’s friendship is very prongsfoot coded : correy as james (and topanga is very lily coded and i feel like their relationship kinda feels like jilly) and shawn is sirius (he wears a leather jacket and flirt with every girl he sees). if you love prongsfoot dynamic (platonic but lowkey gay in a bestie way bc they’re also like brothers)

This secret message is often thought to indicate Conor Kennedy, However Taylor met Connor 4 July 2012, 2 months after the song was recorded. Butterflies - while butterflies were key in the artwork for Lover and appear in spotify canvases for it, Taylor only refers to them twice - in this song and Clean. Now I watched this movie last year when I went on a dumpster dive rabbit hole of watching literally every single queer movie I could find, and while I didn’t like completely adore this film I did genuinely love it and I’m kind of feeling very gate-keepy about it now because every person online I’ve seen that’s watching it now is like “Ohhh Ned and Conor are so in love it’s so sweet” and “Ned fell in love with Conor at X moment” and “if they make a sequel I hope they get together” HONEYYYYY NO.

Im sorry ok maybe i watched the movie wrong or something but correct me if I’m wrong?? This movie wasn’t a love story! It was a story about friendship and more importantly QUEER freindship! We never even actually find out if Ned was gay or not!! Like that’s purposefully left up to the viewer to interpret!! The whole point of the movie was that both boys found a friend in the other in a way that was unexpected while both were feeling isolated for their own reasons, Ned because everyone thought he was gay and hated him for it and Conor because he WAS gay and he kind of hated himself for it. Like— at no point in the film were they ever more than friends, and honestly? It was kind of better that way! They had a very sweet friendship that ultimately produced a very good ending to the movie, and boiling it down to “another Heartstopper story” infuriates me.

Im not sure why I’m so protective of this movie when it’s not like it’s my favorite in the whole world but I watched it when it was still relatively unknown so I guess I just feel the need to set the record straight (ha) a bit.

Ok TLDR: The 2016 movie Handsome Devil is NOT a love story it’s a freindship story and that’s why I love it

On Monday, the world was rocked by the news of the breakup between 28-year-old Conor Kennedy and his 24-year-old girlfriend, Italian-American singer-songwriter Y/N Buscemi. The couple had been together for almost six years and was a favorite of the paparazzi and celebrity news outlets.

The second time, was because of scheduling issues back in 2018. Conor was finishing up his degree at Harvard, while Buscemi was writing songs for her, then, upcoming album, serpente, and was in the process of helping Taylor write songs for Lover.

Since the announcement of their breakup, Kennedy has been vocal about his desire to reconcile with Buscemi. He has made no secret of his feelings, posting several heartfelt messages on social media about how much he loves and misses her.

At this point, it’s unclear what the future holds for the couple. While Kennedy continues to express his love and longing for Buscemi, the public is left to wonder if the two will be able to patch things up. Only time will tell.

I‘m only about halfway through but I need to rant

- it‘s incredible how well cassie manages to lend a unique voice to each of her characters every single time. she just doesn’t miss does she?

- lin caster is the awesomest girl. i just love her because she reminds me of other cc girls in the way that she is kind of a very typical heroine on the surface but you can actually feel her emotions and she’s very believable & flawed & human and you just can’t help rooting for her + i love her friendship with mariam

- everyone is bisexual & it’s completely normalised i love it here

- lin & conor??? apparently they are the flagship which I know because I took a peek at the tag after they had two scenes together because the ENERGY OMG

- as someone who‘s very familiar with multiple romance languages the languages in this book are incredibly entertaining to me

- SO MANY SECRETS & political intrigue hehehe rubbing my little hands together can’t wait for all this to escalate (because it most certainly will) 😈

I’m really glad i finally started reading this.

it took me a while to get into it & I’m still holding out on a final judgement since it seems very slow but i’m a patient reader and i appreciate a good setup.

Rereading Rise and Fall

We're back unusually early to recap the penultimate, and my personal favourite, Spirit Animals book. If you don't know by now, these posts are essentially my notes from rereading the Spirit Animals books -- interesting details, stuff I missed and how I would change certain things. This is all part of my divine plan to revise and expand upon the series. Let's get into it!

This cover is one of my all-time favourites, apart from the short-haired Conor jumpscare (he has long hair in my universe). It's interesting how he is never shown with the axe he wields, only the shepherd's staff. I suppose they're striving for the most accurate portrayal of their characters on the covers, and Conor will always be a shepherd before he is a warrior.

Abeke's opinion of Shane seems to have deteriorated somewhat. In her first chapter, she doesn't think of him as a friend, only as an ally, and her attitude towards him is quite cold. This is most likely due to the fact that he is her jailer at this point. However, it got me thinking... it would have been kind of neat if Abeke's friendship with Shane slowly deteriorated over the course of these first six books. Perhaps because of what she sees him tolerate from his fellow soldiers, perhaps what she sees him do with his own hands. Perhaps both. She sees him do good, yes, but she sees the bad, too, and it makes her start to doubt him. When he saves her from the Conquerors and expresses his wish to switch sides, her faith in him soars -- of course he would do the right thing, she always believed he could -- only to come crashing down when he betrays her days later. I just think it would be more realistic if Abeke had some doubts about her Conqueror boyfriend as the war dragged on (she's not completely stupid, after all). If she chose to put them aside and trust in him, it would make his betrayal of that trust hurt all the more.

"Abeke struggled to keep her composure, but when she thought of that day at Mulop's grotto, frightening images passed through her mind..." "Then Abeke saw Meilin, and her eyes widened in fear." "Without meaning to, she lifted a hand protectively to her throat." Abeke having a lasting fear of Meilin could have been such a rich concept to explore. Of course, we're made to believe that everything is fine and dandy between the Four after the war is over, but what if it wasn't that simple? Like, Abeke loves her friend and knows none of it was her fault, but she can't help but flinch away when she comes near, remembering those cruel fingers around her throat. It takes some time and therapy for her to feel entirely safe in her presence... and for her to truly let go of those memories of how she treated her before. Abeke and Meilin's relationship had the potential to be so complex after the first arc, but they took it nowhere, and I'll always be disappointed in that.

In the Spirit Animals game, Iskos is much, much larger than he is described in the text. I wish they made him gigantic in the books, too. My headcanon is that Stetriol, as the fantasy version of Australia, has a whole array of giant insects and arachnids. Iskos would be one of these.

"Not much to look at, are they? But then, I knew from the moment I met Abeke that we had nothing to fear from her." Oh, it's gonna be so good when Abeke kills Zerif and the Wyrm in one fell swoop in The Burning Tide rewritten. The fact that Zerif has always underestimated her, only to be brought down by her in the end... for her to prove to him that she is a force to be reckoned with.

Rollan says Concorba was hot, which prompted me to flip back to the map and realize that his city is almost level with Okaihee. This is surprising to me; I always imagined Concorba as being farther north in Amaya and having a continental climate, with mild summers and harsh winters.

Rollan thinks of Conor as his best friend. Awww.

It's stated that Rollan has only recently learned to see through Essix's eyes, but he actually first experienced this all the way back in Blood Ties.

Enter one of my favourite characters ever: Irtike! Oh Irtike, I love you so much. The authors realized you were too powerful and shelved you, but I never forgot you.

I can't believe I almost forgot to mention such an important detail, but in my universe, Chinwe is Abeke's aunt, and Irtike is her cousin. Chinwe and Ikenne, Abeke's mother, were sisters. Abeke always had a good relationship with her aunt, and was devastated to learn of her death. However, this means that when Abeke cuts off her father and sister in The Evertree, she still has one family member in Irtike. I've had this headcanon for so many years that I think of it as canon.

I love Rollan's perspective on Soama, and the implication that she only appears more beautiful than Abeke because unlike her, Soama is treated with love and care. It breaks my heart.

Pojalo straight up disowns Abeke. This is actually unforgivable. Him refusing to say that he loves her, declaring that she is dead to him... the fact that they made up after this is absurd. What were they thinking?

A nice little bit of foreshadowing is when Meilin fights the Devourer in a dream and can't see his face because he is covered head to toe in armour -- she can only stare into the "gaping black eyeholes" of his mask. Come to think of it, it would have been cool if Conor had cryptic dreams about the Devourer during his group's time in Nilo. He could have been plagued by them all the way through the book, disturbing visions of the Devourer night after night that he cannot decipher. When they discover Gar dead, Conor thinks this is what the dreams were warning him of. But then they realize the truth.

I always wondered how Shane didn't notice Abeke was injured when he came to get her and Meilin, but it's possible Jhi was able to heal her bruises and scratches that quickly.

"Meilin could sense Abeke's softness... Even if Shane was the kindest of their captors, Abeke needed to be using him, not falling for him." This line always gets me. Abeke's feelings for Shane being on full display, but she herself remaining oblivious to them is something I can't get enough of.

Cabaro and Suka are canonically the strongest Great Beasts -- which makes sense, given their species.

I'm assuming it would be impossible for Cabaro to sire cubs with his lionesses, but all the same, are they his mates? Would a Great Beast even look at a common animal that way? It's an interesting thought.

If Halawir hadn't convinced him to remain neutral, Cabaro might have fought alongside the Four Fallen in their last battle all those years ago. I wonder, was Halawir was going around changing the minds of any others he felt would be sympathetic to their cause?

Cabaro mentions that Briggan was the only one the Great Beasts all trusted. So despite being formed by the same disaster and walking side by side for eons, the Great Beasts still had reservations about their fellows? Interesting...

Cabaro makes a good point about the Greencloaks and their spirit animals, and mankind overall. I wish we could have known what Briggan and Essix were thinking during his speech; for a series called Spirit Animals, we barely ever get inside their heads! Especially when it matters, like now! I want to know how the Four Fallen feel about being spirit animals. Is there any resentment there? Any feelings of being trapped in their new, lesser bodies? Any wishes to return to the greatness and independence they knew for millennia and leave their human partners behind? A conflict revolving around the Four Fallen themselves and the complexity of being tied to humans would be intriguing as hell.

"...Drina, as beautiful as her brother, Shane, was handsome..." To me, this is proof that Abeke is bisexual. She totally has a crush on both of them.

Gerathon is canonically Abeke's biggest fear. Can't fault her for that.

I hold the belief that neither Drina nor Shane knew she was truly going to die that day. The way I see it, the Conqueror leaders originally planned to stage a fake death, in order to give Abeke and Meilin a reason to trust Shane. Both siblings were aware of this... but Drina's death unexpectedly turned out to be real, making her terror and his anguish all genuine. Gerathon and the Conqueror leaders could have decided to kill her because she was putting up too much resistance to Gerathon, and they feared defiance from someone in such a powerful position would cause dissent among the rest of the Conquerors. (In ARHoE, I took this idea and expanded on it a little more. Drina believes she should be leader and queen instead of her brother, and attempts to stage a coup. Her reckless campaign divides the Conquerors -- some are loyal to Shane, some to her. Naturally, Gerathon rewards her treachery with death.) That's just my opinion though, because to my knowledge this whole conspiracy is never fully explained. I love Drina, and wish we got more clarity on what happened here.

I don't think Abeke was meant to hear the whispered exchange between Gerathon and Shane. I think that was her reminding him, in the face of his shock and anger over his sister really being dead, to go ahead with the plan and not flake out now -- lest he meet a similar end.

Meilin wielding a sword in each hand is metal as fuck.

Irtike rides bareback. I don't know much about horseback riding, so I'm not entirely sure why she would remove the saddle, but it seems like a power move.

Conor literally stuck an axe in a Great Beast's back. Holy hell. I want to see him telling this story to a group of excited children.

Meilin being unwilling to fight that Conqueror boy because he could be in the same situation as she is was such a good layer to her internal conflict.

Gerathon bites Cabaro on the leg, but her venom doesn't seem to have any effect on him.

I like how they gave Shane's family similar features. Gar and Drina are both described as having large eyes.

"As they approached the spot of scuffed earth and open air that led down to the oasis, a nameless dread overtook Conor." Conor's bond with Briggan giving him not just cryptic visions of the far future, but little premonitions of the near future, is something I would have liked to see.

We don't get to see Cabaro's reaction to his oasis being levelled, which is a shame. Also, wow, even with half the team the Greencloaks bring destruction wherever they go, this time to the animal kingdom.

Why did Gar summon a wolverine, anyway? From what we've seen, people only call up animals that are native to their homeland. In the real world, upon which Erdas is painstakingly based, there are no wolverines anywhere close to Australia. They live in the northern forests of Canada and Eurasia (Amaya, Eura and Zhong on Erdas). So... what's the explanation for this? Are there wolverines in Stetriol, despite the arid climate being nothing like what they are used to? Or did Gar somehow manage to summon a spirit animal from another land?

Sundown has to be my favourite chapter of the book -- possibly even of the entire series. It's the calm before the storm, and a beautiful look into a friendship that will never be the same again. The romantic implications for Shane and Abeke are as clear as day here: The way she keeps noticing how he looks (the sun lighting his face, the lids of his eyes, his arm when she lays her hand atop it), him huskily calling her amazing and her blushing and looking away. I love how it's not fully spelled out, either, and it's up to the reader to deduce that there is love there from the observations she makes, from the words they say, from the way she thinks about him. Their romance is so slow and gentle and bittersweet. This is the last tender moment they'll have. It's sad to look back on it.

My theory is that Shane was letting Grahv out of passive state while they were on the ship, to swim around in the water out of Abeke's sight. This would explain Shane's ease around water, which isn't, to my knowledge, a natural trait of his -- his crocodile is lending him his abilities. Shane is also mentioned to have been diving into the sea without a shirt on, and Abeke would surely have seen the tattoo if Grahv was in passive form during this. Shane could have explained Renneg's absence by saying he was below decks, since the sight of the water made him queasy, and told Abeke not to disturb him because he was resting. This theory is technically invalid because Abeke says Shane hasn't summoned Renneg the whole voyage, but I truthfully don't know how else he could walk around shirtless.

I don't like that Irtike goes right back to Okaihee at the end of the book. What happened to the Irtike who told our protagonists "my heart lives outside of Okaihee now"? She deserved to go with Conor and Rollan to Greenhaven, be present at Tarik's funeral, become a Greencloak in-text and live at Greenhaven thereafter. After all, the Greencloaks probably have more need of her powers than Okaihee at the moment, since the village's failed crops mean it is no longer a target of the Conquerors. At the very least, she should have been one of the returning characters from previous books who travel with the team to Stetriol in The Evertree. (To tell you the truth, I just wanted a whole lot more of Irtike. What do you mean they created a character who is no doubt one of the most powerful people on the planet and then never used her again?)

"Shane turned to face Abeke, his expression unreadable." I just know Shane is gonna have nightmares about Abeke's shocked, disbelieving, betrayed face in this moment for the rest of his life.

"Essix shrieked, and Halawir cocked his head toward her, listening." I love how the Great Beasts seem to be able to understand the Four Fallen, even in their diminished forms. Like they are the only ones who can still hear their voices.

Poor Abeke. She has only just been able to prove that she was not secretly a traitor all along, only just been able to hope for her friends' full trust, and now she has unsuspectingly paved the way for the Conquerors' ultimate victory. She must be fearing that she is farther from acceptance than ever before. My poor, poor girl.

It would have been great if the team managed to hold onto the Slate Elephant as well. One talisman for each of them. I'll have to reread The Evertree to examine how the events of that book would change with the Slate Elephant, and see if it would be feasible to incorporate into ARHoE. I only fear it would make their journey across Stetriol too easy; they could all just clamber onto Great Uraza's back and be at Muttering Rock within a day. But the mental image I have of Abeke riding Great Uraza in the Battle of Muttering Rock, her raw heartbreak manifested in the giant leopard's wrath, is incredible.

I like Conor's character development into a strong leader and think it was needed, but it happened much too fast. Instead of laying the necessary groundwork for this change early on and building from there, these authors seem to prefer having their characters do a 180 in the span of a single book or even a few chapters. That and the way they handled Irtike are my only major complaints about this book, though.

Did Rise and Fall stand the test of time and remain my favourite? Well, yes! I enjoyed this book from start to finish. There were so many things I loved about it: The introduction of badass one-timers Irtike and Drina, Abeke and Meilin among the Conquerors, all the sweet Shane and Abeke moments, and the fact that we got three new Great Beasts in one book! Most of all, I loved all its ups and downs. I remember being absolutely blown away reading Shane's betrayal when I was ten; that whole plot point was executed very well. Meilin and Jhi surrendering themselves to the Conquerors, Meilin in manacles, Jhi embracing her, made me inconsolable. And of course, Tarik's death was a gut punch. Even with all these losses, though, the book ends on a hopeful note -- the team still has two talismans. They still have a chance against their enemies, however slim. They've hit rock bottom, but they're still looking up. It's a powerful ending, and one that's always stuck with me.

I love handsome devil, it's probably my favorite thing I've watched for Nick. And I really love that it's left with them not being a couple, or kissing even once.

queer friendship is just as important to showcase as queer romance. Conor met Ned at a time in his life he's still figuring things out, and just needed a friend who has a better grip on who he is to help him be more comfortable in himself. It's a beautiful little movie about queer friendship.

“Why Jes?” Nico asked, trying to keep the flair of emotion out of his voice. Not only was his love for her unrequited, she would be more comfortable sketching one of his teammates? That was the last thing he wanted to hear.

“I don’t know. I feel like he wouldn’t be weird about it since the swedes are always so,” she gestured to her body with her hand, “free. But it felt too intimate when he has Nicole and we’re…us,” she said as she finally looked into his face. 

We’re us? What did that mean? What was us? They were friends? She wanted something more than friendship?

We’ll most likely never know exactly what happened with Anna, Conor and Minka (unless one of them spills). However, I suspect it had something to do with a few things. I believe Conor and Minka were upset that they were leaving the show and Anna wasn’t. (Although she’s number 2 on the call sheet and is not a writer or show runner 🙄). Conor hoped Donna would eventually get a chance to lead the team, but instead her character was killed at the end of S2. Minka seemed like she wanted DD to get back together, but that didn’t happen - thank the Christ! Hawk and Dove didn’t get a spin-off either. And it wouldn’t surprise me if they were jealous of Anna’s friendship with Brenton and his sister. I don’t know them, but get a vibe that they felt some type of way about the fact that she became close with them (thinking it had some influence on Anna’s staying power 😂 and they collectively started cozying up to Brenton’s partner which didn’t seem to go anywhere). I’m probably way off base, but love speculating 🤔 Maybe someday they’ll be a tell-all book. What do you think happened?! 👀

Minka way to old to end a friendship over something so trivial like that. I know she’s been in the industry for a while so she should know the writers can write you (your character) out at any moment. (Conor too) Them befriending Chloe got them…no where. Anna has a genuine friendship/bond with Brenton and his Sister. Now Chloe…idk about them, she just followed Anna (back) earlier this year (but I peeped her in Anna likes and comments before Anna deleted all her posts)

A hank and dawn spin-off would be terrible! They’re both boring, especially Dawn.

okay so this is really hard because on one hand Seb you're fuckin amazing but on the other...you know what you did. BUT OOT IS SO GOOD EVEN THO AAAAAAAAA. But also @ghosts-of-love holy fuck you're writing is amazing and I adore (aha) your fics. I can't choose AAAAAAAAAAAAA. But Out Of Touch by @stop-saying-tootsie and Adored, LtF and TQATD are definitely the top of the list. Also, if you haven't read this PLEASE DO. I promise you nothing bad happens in Out Of Touch. OKAY SO, the first one that comes to mind is Handsome Devil. Would this essentially be emotional turmoil for Cap ? Absolutely yes but 1) I'd love to see him understand that times have changed and people are accepting of queerness and 2) it's a beautiful movie that I think all the ghosts could benefit from watching. Especially the Captain. It's about these two kids in an irish boarding school who form an unlikely friendship (Ned - outcast loner and Conor - rugby fiend loved by the school for his skills). PLEASE WATCH IT IF YOU HAVEN'T. Also the soundtrack for this movie is BEAUTIFUL and makes me go a lil insane every time I watch it. IT"S GOT ANDREW SCOTT AS A GAY ENGLISH TEACHER !!!

Otherwise, I'd also choose The Nice Guys. Fun detective buddy-cop movie and so far everyone I've showed it to has enjoyed it. I also think it'd start a really good discussion about sex work and the judicial system. Not necessarily in relation to each other but still. Fanny would definitely be shocked just at the opening scene but honestly, I think after some discussing she'd enjoy it too. Maybe. Julian definitely would. But it's fuckin hilarious and also heartwarming with the lil hint of found family.

OOH OR OCEAN'S 11 now there's some good found family with another stellar soundtrack. Or Knives Out. NOW THAT, Fanny would love. I think she'd like the twist of it not actually being about WHODUNNIT but if Marta can get away with it and then finding out THE OTHER twist. Although idk how she'd feel about the whole "family losing their inheritance" thing. Hmmm. Idk why Fanny's been the one I'm tryna impress here. I think cuz most of them would enjoy these without fuss but ya know...Fanny.

Okay, if i had to choose ONE :( it'd be Handsome Devil. I'd love to make the ghosts watch that and see who's crying by the end of it :) and see who's trying to be very indifferent about it *cough* cap *cough cough*
