I’d like to take this time to make a long post about the funniest and most unfortunate woman ever, Mirage Farina Jenius
Tumblr media
Somehow Mirage is the hottest woman in the galaxy (who isn’t Mikumo) but also cursed with an infinite supply of spaghetti spilling out of her pockets at all times
Tumblr media
Despite her insanely good looks, intergalactically famous family, and steady job as a fighter pilot, she somehow lost a love triangle to a homeless farm girl pop idol who looks like this 90% of the time:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After having already lost, she now has to deal with her own famous grandfather talking shit about her to her face
Tumblr media
and also her looks make her irresistible to women, but still not the guy she was in love with
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and NOW, she has to fix the other 2 ends of the love triangle she fucking lost
Tumblr media Tumblr media
mostly because it pisses her off so much
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and it’s the second time she’s had to fix the same exact love triangle she got kicked out of
also,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
she might also be bi and she’s really not coping with it well at all
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
someone help her

Just finished rewatching Macross Delta (not the movies, they’ll be for another time) and want to write so much so here, my ideas :  Freyja is poly, it’s a fact : she is so full of love, I can’t imagine her loving just one person, she probably doesn’t have the words but she’ll forge platonic and romantic relationships
Walküre is qpr you can’t change my mind : Reina and Makina are an official couple, and I hardly see them all spending this much time together without forming a bond, be it platonic or polycule. I mean, have you seen the sexual tension between Mikumo and Kaname ??? (also with Freyja) And Reina/Makina are overly affectionate over the other members so yeah !  I think Mirage would panic so hard because she wouldn’t understand how you can love two persons at the same time, so she focuses on Hayate but it’s impossible for her to not like Freyja I believe in the Mirage/Freyja/Hayate couple, probably even a polycule open because as said before, it’s impossible to not love Freyja and Hayate and Mirage want the best for her (they have to convince her they are okay with that, and that it means they also can see other people if they want, but the rule is always to say it beforehand and communicate well) I’m sure Hayate and Mirage had a crush on Messer at a moment I just wanna write about the end of the war, how it affected people but also the healing (the fact that Freyja alone just with ‘I love you’ was able to free people makes it even more proof that she loves more than one person, even just platonic)  Wanna write about Freyja’s childhood bc it was kinda glossed over, and her power” bc she has ooooone i’m sure I just wanna infodump so hard and write but I know that if start now, will not sleep at all or do nothing good hehe

變 : not really interested in engaging with syscourse though I might occasionally, I am mostly anti-endo (pro conversation), though the majority of that is due to co-opting of terminology, cultural appropriation, spreading of misinformation, overall attitude towards systems, and general redirection of resources away from trauma victims : neutrals feel free to interact, pro-endos can as well if you aren’t obnoxious about it 💊
𖧧 : endos who do not do any of the following feel free to int:: you do not use any medical system terms, do not use the word “sysmed”, are not appropriating or in support of appropriating cultures (tulpas), do not spread misinformation about DID/OSDD research, are educated on the DID/OSDD diagnostic criteria, and do not actively take sources away from trauma victims 🥩 my stance is that you do not need trauma to be plural, but you do need trauma to be a system. Me being anti-endo isn’t saying I don’t think you exist, I’m saying your plurality is not systemhood and you need to stop forcing yourselves into our spaces.
♡ Don’t call me plural, do not use plural pronouns, don’t call my alters headmates⚡️ not listing triggers, mutuals tag aggressive yelling, dog fights, and “as long as it’s consensual” phrase thank you

Weekly Anime Comic: Macross - FINALE!
...aaaaaaaaand we're done!  With a comic that's admittedly more about the entirety of the Macross franchise as a whole than the final episode specifically, but I've had this one kicking around in my head for a while now, and just needed to get it out there.
Because yeah, when I was was first getting into Macross proper, I was under the impression that the whole "They went out into space and nobody know where they wound up" bit was solely for Robotech.  Ya know, just there to explain why no Macross characters were appearing during the Southern Cross or Mospaeda episodes.  But no!  Turns out it's actual official Macross canon that Misa leads humanity's first expedition into space with Hikaru and Minmay in tow... and then the ship vanishes.  After everything these characters go through, their official fate is to be gobbled up by space and have their disappearance covered up by the authorities.  It's an... ODD choice, made odder by so many of the choices the rest of the franchise would make afterwards.
And before anybody brings it up: No, I haven't seen Macross Delta yet but I do know that this is SORT OF addressed in that series.  However, I'm also led to understand that they still leave a lot of stuff rather vague and cryptic, in which case my point still stands.  I know anime loves to to be inconclusive and open ended, but I feel like it can border on being disrespectful to the characters at times, and that's really weird in a franchise that still wants to milk them in other ways.  Like, it's just odd to see one of the later shows have a reference to Minmay for the nostalgia pop when I know what context is lurking in the background.  On the other hand, though, being lost in space meant that none of these characters had to be in Macross 7.  Maybe I'm wrong about who's getting disrespected here... BUT ANYWAY, this may be the end of the Macross comics, but Dirty Pair comics have already been going up on Patreon for weeks, as have comics about Gunbuster, and Digimon Tamers stuff will be starting up before too long!  And becoming a patron for even just $1 a month would get you in on all of this stuff the second it goes live! Conventional Wisdom / Patreon

Macross Zero Gets Me To Blog About Macross Here and It’s Honestly a Surprise How Little I've Done That Considering How Much I Like Macross as a Whole
12 Days of Aniblogging 2023, Day 7
What is Macross fundamentally about? Why is anyone drawn to this mecha franchise that’s played second fiddle to Gundam for nearly every step of its existence? The classic answer is the interplay between idols, mecha, and romance that Macross offers, with each iteration tweaking the balance to new results. But I think this viewpoint misses one of the most unique aspects of the original Super Dimension Fortress Macross anime, which is the culture war at the center of everything. The Zentradi are an alien race raised solely for battle, which gives them overwhelming firepower but leaves them deeply vulnerable to soft power. It's not the cool transforming ships that win the war, but romance and pop music and consumerist culture and pluralism and sickening amounts of gender. The Zentradi are literally humanized by the end of the show, as the nine-episode epilogue of SDF Macross is about the surviving humans and Zentradi trying to coexist in a new society built on the ruins of Earth, and the conflicts that arise from assimilation. For the most part it’s handled shockingly well for a 40-year-old show.
Tumblr media
you bet your ass I'm just using macross baby throw instead of looking for a more relevant screenshot
Most of the later Macross installments downplay the contact narrative aspect, moving the continuity forwards and introducing new enemies that are either comically evil or uncaring hive-minds. And that’s fine! Instead, we get the insanity of Fire Bomber in Macross 7, and some of the best mechanical animation ever put to cel in Macross Plus. But as Macross Frontier and Delta go all-in on idols and sell ungodly amounts of CDs, eventually you start to feel like something’s missing.
Macross Zero is the one series I hadn’t gotten around to until this year. The only things I knew going in were that it was a relic of the early digital era, the first Macross to use CG for the dogfights, and focused primarily on native Pacific islanders. This all had me a bit worried! But what the setting actually entails is contact at the forefront of a Macross series again.
Tumblr media
This is the first Macross chronologically, so it even though it has some alien tech that crash-landed to Earth, it predates actual alien contact and space war. Instead, all the major powers are wrapping up the Unification War, the “and then the Earth formed a world government to combat the imminent alien threat” narrative handwave of SDF Macross. We don't see much of the actual conflict on-screen, so instead it manifests as the settling of the frontier. The war is almost over and the fighting has been pushed to the fringes of the world, which means even nonaligned native islanders are at risk of being caught in the crossfire.
Tumblr media
there's a real painterly nature to the backgrounds in this show, which helps the CG integrate quite well. Easily one of the best looking anime from the early 2000s.
Though the immediate problem is the military helicopters landing on the beach, it’s clear that the tribe has been facing the pressure of cultural imperialism for a long time now. Previous encounters have brought radios and generators to the island, and many members of the younger generations are leaving for mainland Asia to seek greater opportunities. This conflict manifests in the central love triangle as well. Sara Nome is a deeply religious traditionalist, while her younger sister Mao is the one interested in technology and anthropology. Macross Zero pulls no punches in depicting cultural isolationism as stifling and authoritarian. But the alternative is the end of their way of living, with only the potential for fragments of culture to persist through assimilation. And either way, the military being right at their door may soon render all this moot . The series grapples with hard problems in much better faith than most anime I've seen, which have a nasty tendency to advocate for colonialism.
Tumblr media
Blood samples are one of Zero’s narrative through-lines, depicting the whole range of ethical hazards endemic to this kind of contact. The UN-sponsored cultural anthropologist who lands on the island takes indigenous blood samples under the half-truth that she’s going to test for diseases and treat the sick. Sara sees the writing on the wall, but can’t stop her from bribing the tribespeople with hard-to-get food and drinks. Of course, what the military scientists actually want to learn is how the islanders are linked to a suspected dormant protoculture superweapon, and to take advantage of it before the Anti-UN forces do the same.
Tumblr media
After discovering this, both the United Nations and the self-proclaimed anti-imperialist Anti-UN do not hesitate to use the island as a battlefield. While there’s plenty of sci-fi and magical macguffins during the last act, the show’s intentions remain firm. The can of worms opened when a UN fighter pilot first washed ashore reaches its inevitable conclusion, and everything burns and everyone has to be evacuated. Sara Nome reawakens the bird superweapon representative of her culture and ultimately uses it to open a portal, vanishing to parts unknown. That’s about the best this particular narrative can offer her viewpoint. Macross Frontier goes on to reveal that her sister Mao moved to the mainland and became a protoculture researcher, eventually becoming the grandmother of idol Sheryl Nome. It’s a fitting callback.
Tumblr media
Zero is the most grounded and least optimistic Macross, and manages to avoid falling into pro-colonialist or noble savage viewpoints with its clear narrative focus. I would compare it to one of those UC Gundam side story OVAs, deliberately limited in scope but well-executed. One of the better ones.
Speaking of, Sunrise is going to be animating the next Macross anime! There’s a lot of possibilities, but first and foremost I hope they opt for a soft or hard reboot. Watching the most recent Delta movie left me to conclude that the internal chronology of the franchise has gotten far too messy, and it’s time to clean the slate so that culture shock can be brought to the forefront again. Of course, I’m also praying that they try to shamelessly cash in on G-Witch’s success by making The Gay Macross. God, what I would give for The Gay Macross. I could fill an entire second post with my ideas for The Gay Macross, but I’ll spare you for now.

OH MY GAWD! I didn’t expect to see the Macross Frontier gang in the Macross Delta movie!!! I’M SO HAPPY!
I ship Alto and Sheryl so much! The reason why I love the ship is Sheryl kinda help Alto embrace his soft side especially in the movie. I felt like Alto is not comfortable with his feminine side because of his female roles. Because of that, he entered military because he think it will be manly. When he fell in love with Sheryl, you can see change his mindset. For example: Him crossplaying as woman to save Sheryl, wearing matching earing with Sheryl and doing household chores for Sheryl. Their whole ship is basically destroying gender norms because at some point Sheryl propose to Alto.

Anime Central Day 1: The Truly Harrowing Ordeal of Being Known
Well, we got into Chicago and checked into our accommodations last night. This morning we got to the convention center early-ish (still a line around the corner to get in). Here follows highlights, in no particular order:
- got my Betsu Ten Gai nendoroid‘s base signed by the PILI staff. My wife got one of the cards signed, and we were lucky and got a bonus, very fancy Rou Fuyou shikishi.
- Not a whole lot I wanted in the dealer’s room (good, tbh). I got some Macross Delta keychains and two new robot blu-ray sets (Albegas, Layzner). Probably will end up back in there and buy a model kit sometime tomorrow.
- I wore my Jade Curtiss Tales of the Abyss cosplay today. I’ve been making and remaking this outfit for…a long time, and it’s finally done to my satisfaction. The boots and the gloves were the real bitch. Some minor improvements to make but overall I’m pretty happy.
- Had a great dinner with friends. I love telling people “Yeah the best part of Ideon: Be Invoked is how characters die and you think ‘at least they won’t see the horrors still yet to come’”.
- Handed out a whole bunch of robots and business cards and other fun little goodies.
- The clincher, however, was going to the panel for Tomo Sakurai. We got to hear her sing My Friends! It was an interesting retrospective on her career and time starting in the industry. Also we gave her the Gubaba plush I made, my best one yet, and she really seemed to like it! I gave a homemade gift to a celebrity and they appreciated it! And we’re going to her autograph session tomorrow. Someone famous, from something I like, being aware of my existence is truly, a bizarre sensation.
I need to go to bed. More tomorrow!

AnimEigo to Launch Kickstarter Campaign for Macross II Anime Release
Tumblr media
AnimEigo's Robert Woodhead announced at the Animazement event last week that AnimEigo will launch a Kickstarter campaign for the release of the Super Dimensional Fortress Macross II original video anime film this summer. The company will reveal more details at its panel at the Otakon event, which runs from July 28-30. #Macross2 Kickstarter is coming later this summer. Details at @Otakon panel. We announced this at @animazement but somehow I "spaced" on tweeting about it. If you have interesting ideas for stretch goals, tweet away! — Robert Woodhead (@AnimEigo) June 5, 2023 Biggest announced in July 2022 that AnimEigo would be releasing the anime on Blu-ray discs. At the time, Woodhead revealed on Twitter that his release of Macross II would be a high-definition transfer and not a resolution bump. The six-episode anime premiered in 1992. The story is set eight decades after Space War I and follows a civilian news reporter who meets a mysterious singer from a previously unknown alien race. Studio Nue began the Macross franchise in 1982 with The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, a television anime series featuring the themes of a love triangle, music, and transforming fighter jets. Studio Nue worked with advertising agency Bigwest and anime studio Tatsunoko Production as production partners. The franchise spawned three other television series (Macross 7, Macross Frontier, and Macross Delta), several theatrical films (beginning with The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love?), and several video series (including Macross II, Macross Plus, Macross Dynamite 7 and Macross Zero). Macross Delta aired from April to September 2016, after a trailer for the first episode in 2015. The latest animated work in the Macross franchise, the feature film Gekijōban Macross Delta: Zettai LIVE!!!!!!, opened in Japan in October 2021 along with the short film “Gekijō Tanpen Macross Frontier Toki no Meikyū” (Macross Frontier Film Short: Labyrinth of Time). Sunrise is releasing a new Macross animation project. via Anime Networks Read the full article

Just some incoherent rambling about Zettai Live
I’m a bit new to this site, but also I watched Zettai Live recently (not today, but it was this week and it’s been pretty much dominating my brain since) and I need a space to ramble about it.
I’m generally in the camp that didn’t like Macross Delta all that much. It wasn’t a bad show, and I’d be hard-pressed to say I dislike it, but it was also really flawed, especially in the character department, given that the only cast members I really cared about were Mirage and Messer. The fact that I watched it immediately after I did Macross Frontier (which is pretty much one of the greatest anime to ever exist) was also probably a big factor.
This movie, however, fixed all that. Freyja got a really engaging arc about her oncoming death which made me sympathize with her, gave her a number of great moments, especially towards the end, and reminded me of Sheryl Nome (my favorite Macros character)
After a whole series of being done dirty, my girl Mirage also finally got a share of the spotlight. She may not have won the love triangle, but her learning to be a leader was pretty cool in its own right and helped separate her from the rest of the pilots in the show
My Boi Max finally made his reappearance. He was just as cool in this as he was in 7, SDF, and DYRL. And Excedol was there too! Also, this now means that Frontier is the only Macross TV show which hasn’t had Max play a major role
Yami_Q_Ray was fucking epic and all their songs rock
That finale had no right to be as hype as it was. Pretty much everything about those last 20 minutes or so had me jumping out of my seat
This movie’s entire soundtrack was just great. Walkure wa Akiramenai is my new favorite Delta song
So, yeah, it’s my new 3rd favorite Macross movie, displacing DYRL
