Heyo! Any advice on struggling to get your art seen in the world? I feel like no matter how much I post, or what I post, people never see it or seem to like it. I love art and am pursuing it as a career (hence why Im getting a degree in it currently lmao) but its kind of disheartening to work really hard on something, post it, and no one sees it.
oh, man. i'm afraid for this one i don't feel like i have a lot of solid advice. having a large-ish following online feels like something that kind of just, like, Happened to me, mostly on accident/in ways outside of my control, and even if i had some ideas on how to potentially replicate those gains i don't think they'd work consistently. (also, a lot of my large jumps in follower count came from mental health related work going viral bc it's #relatable; this is something i have complicated feelings about and it's absolutely not a viable, like, "strategy" or something that i would recommend, in the way that ppl can say like, "fanart gets attention!" or stuff like that.)
so, i don't have advice for how to actually GET those eyes on your art; i can maybe help with making ppl more likely to STAY once they do find you, and how to build a following that will actually help you maintain a living from your work -- bc i have TONS of peers w a following a fraction of the size of mine who get more jobs than me, are doing cooler/more "professional" stuff than me, etc! (heads up that most of my experience is on twitter; i know less than nothing about places like instagram + tiktok, and while tumblr functions very differently from twitter i feel like i handle things mostly the same here, aside from doing less personal posting/being less talkative and not 'networking' or following many people).
SCROLLING BACK UP TO ADD A SPOILER ALERT: AS ALWAYS I HAVE SAID "HAHA IDK I DON'T REALLY HAVE ANY ADVICE" AND THEN PROCEEDED TO TYPE A FULL ESSAY. IF YOU ARE ON DESKTOP YOU CAN HIT THE 'J' KEY TO SKIP THIS POST. IF YOU'RE ON MOBILE, I'M SORRY
a very important thing, especially professionally: it HAS to be easy to see what you do. (this is easier here on tumblr, where u can have a designated art tag etc, than on twitter, which is an awful website that sucks. <- guy who makes all his money on twitter) this means, like -- if i see something from you and get curious and click your profile, it should only take one more click to quickly see at least SOME of your art. on a professional account, it's probably best for your icon to be your own work, something snappy and memorable and eye-catching that reads well at a small size; people shouldn't have to dig for 20 minutes before they can start browsing your art. on twitter, this means TRY not to gunk up your media tab with a ton of reaction images/screencaps of your gacha pulls/etc; on here, it means make your art tag easy to find; on any website, a portfolio link, prominently displayed, is the best bet. (i am still working on that one myself lmao and i've been working professionally full time for a few years now so like, there are outliers and wiggle room on all of this).
next! it's great when your audience finds you, but you have to find them, too. find artists who do similar stuff to you and get into their stuff -- sincerely, not just as "networking." (like only do this with ppl whose stuff you actually think is cool, not just trying to get in mutuals with everyone you see in hopes of a bump, obviously.) get interested in other indie artists, find the people who are working/publishing in the spaces that are exciting and aspirational for you, and support them! i don't want it to sound cynical when i say there's a kind of give-and-take built into this; the point is not "well, if i reblog/retweet a bunch of YOUR stuff, maybe you'll feel obligated to boost mine in return," but that when you find other artists/creatives who are on the same wavelength as you, you will naturally stumble into pools of people who want to support art like yours, and you and your newfound peers will help each other when you hype each other's stuff up and direct followers to each other! (again re: things going differently on dif websites: this is twitter-specific for me, bc i use my tumblr as a gallery/portfolio. that doesn't mean it doesn't happen here tho! it can and does happen everywhere!)
it is really not a competition. i know that SOMETIMES it is in like, a really nitty-gritty numbers sense; people only have so much money to spare, they will make choices about whose patreon they can afford/what comic to buy/etc, that's true. but to me that's not competition. people who are sincerely into your stuff will hang on until they can afford it; maybe that means someone follows you for two whole years before the planets align and they have the budget/opportunity to commission you. by hanging out in similar circles you are not taking potential business or opportunities away from anyone else, nor are you risking leading your own audience to Someone They'll Like Better; you're just offering more options, and the internet is VAST and endless, and EVENTUALLY people will show up who are into YOUR STUFF, SPECIFICALLY. helping each other is never going to stifle or delay that!!
and my final chunk of advice is the one i give constantly that everyone is probably super sick of hearing but i just seriously seriously believe in it, even tho i know it's slow to pay off and hard to follow: keep doing exactly what you want to. keep doing it!!! you have to!!! yes, i mean the stuff that's getting like, 2 likes and 0 reblogs! the stuff that 'nobody likes!'
earlier i mentioned i have gotten big follower bumps from like adhd comics and stuff like that going viral. the thing is that, from a professional standpoint: my follower count has like, more than quintupled from where it was at a few years ago; my patreon income has absolutely NOT quintupled lmfao. it has less than doubled, over that same period of like... i wanna say over 4 years. that's still good, i'm grateful for it, and i owe a lot of it to the sheer numbers game (the more ppl see ur work, the more likely it is you'll reach someone who decides to support you), but there is absolutely not an actual direct correlation between numbers and career success/stability.
where there IS a direct correlation is between "people who give a shit about the art i really truly love making" and "people who like my art enough to support me professionally." HUGE chunks of the followers i get any time something goes viral slough off over time; there's nothing wrong with that, they just follow me bc something was funny/interesting and end up realizing my work's not actually their thing. but the ppl who follow me bc they're into all the stuff i post most consistently, the stuff i care about and am passionate about, stick around. and i would not have found them if i wasn't posting the shit i care about!
out there there are people who will be 100% crazy about the stuff that is 100% what you want to make. it's like actually statistically impossible for there not to be. the more niche your thing is, the longer it will take to find them, but they absolutely exist. but if you give up before you find them -- if you start saying, "well, i'll put in 50% of this idea that i love, but the other 50% is too weird and nobody's gonna like it and it'll flop" -- well, in that case, you can only ever find the ppl who are 50% into what you do. don't fuck yourself like that!! you cannot deny yourself the possibility (the INEVITABILITY!!! IMO!!!!!) of finding the people who will 100% get what you're doing.
so: on a pragmatic level, i'm sure there will be ppl who disagree with me on this, and who think it's absolutely mandatory to do fanart as a crowd draw or learn about algorithms and posting times and get on tiktok and do the visibility grind and everything and that it's stupid and irresponsible to tell people not to. i'm sure it's also easy to point out that i'm speaking from a place where i now have more eyes on my stuff than i know what to fucking do with so maybe i'm just totally out of touch and being naive or something. but for me the most important part of doing art now, ESPECIALLY as a career, is to keep loving it and to believe in what i'm doing and to build an audience that cares about the same things i do. and i think it is really really vital to make that your top priority. bc if you don't, then even if you DO crack the code to suddenly getting tons of notes on everything etc -- will you even keep wanting to do it?
this job is hard. it's lonely, in my experience; i spend so much time sitting in front of my computer alone. it's unstable, which is stressful and can be frightening. it's emotionally taxing, for me, because art is so important to me that it's hard to set boundaries and separate my identity from it and actually treat it like a job. it has taken me a long time to find success doing this; maybe i could have gotten there faster if i had tried to find ways to draw an audience specifically, but i think if i had somehow managed to get a big patreon following/tons of commissioners/etc by doing something formulaic or doing stuff that specifically gets tons of attention, but isn't what's natural for me -- i don't think i would have lasted very long that way. this is already hard and complicated enough; i don't think it's sustainable to give up any unnecessary ground on doing exactly what you're passionate about, bc at least in my case, that's mandatory for this even being a livable career for me. i would burn out and decide to do something else very quickly if the only way to succeed was to chase numbers/engagement.
doing it this way is very slow. if i hadn't been able to lean on family/my wife while starting up, i would have had to have a day job for much longer (like, years, probably) while saving up and preparing to go full time; for as long as you struggle to get traction, it may mean going full time has to be on the backburner. but the thing is that there's nothing wrong with that, it's the reality for the vast majority of us (from what i've seen) -- and you'll eventually build a career that can last way longer, i think.
okay oh my god i'm done. sorry about that. like i said this job is pretty lonely and i sit here all day and think about this stuff and then generally do not talk about it with anyone until somebody asks me about it and then i repeat myself at length again. like i did here. anyway have a good night sincerely and i hope some part of this was helpful!!!

If one wanted to get into watching tennis how would you start I don’t really know how tournaments or anything works
Okay so I'd suggest downloading the ATP WTA app as well as the TNNS app to keep track of the matches that are upcoming. I'm not on my iPad rn but I'll rb this post later with links u can watch most of the matches. I'm in India so the grandslams are on SonyLiv or Hotstar but outside I think they're on tennis tv (though imo subscription is a bit expensive).
I'd also recommend following some accounts on Instagram and Twitter like The Tennis Channel, ATP, WTA, The Tennis Letter etc. On tumblr, u can follow fans through tennisblr and similarly on twitter as well.
Other than that, it's just finding out the rules ans starting to watch the matches. Rn wimbledon is going on so you can really just start watching that and take your pick of the lot (my favourites are jannik sinner, carlos alcaraz, naomi osaka, coco gauff but there are tons of other good players) . Also a lot of the rules after the basics are easy to pick up if you keep watching. Have fun and feel free to dm me if u want to :)))

hiiii congrats on ur story being accepted to a lit journal!! ur writing is rlly gorgeous and hope more good things come to you 💌🫀!!
+ i guess i did have a question lol (and feel free to ignore or not answer!!) how did u find lit journals to submit to i guess? like what was your criteria for looking / how did u know how to go about looking lol. again! if you don’t want to answer totally fine :))) hope u have a great day !!
thank you so much love! And I'm happy to answer your questions!
one of my biggest pieces of advice is to look at small journals! I know personally it'd be nice to be able to get into a big journal on the first try but sadly for many (or at least myself lol) that usually isn't the case. My acceptance was from a very small run journal with a following of only about 100-130. It isn't to say that you don't have the talent to get into bigger literary journals- but there going to be much more competitive because they'll most likely have a lot more submissions to go through as well.
there are lots of small-run journals I've found through looking on instagram and twitter: often times when you find one you like their following list will be similarly themed/subject literary journals of the same vein or will have posts recommending fellow journals that you'll also find as good fits for your work!
Use submittable! It's a wonderful website that lets you filter through calls for submissions for art, essays, poetry, short stories, and media pieces of the like for contests and journals around the world for free as a writer/artist. It also allows you to keep track of your submissions and withdraw them easier than just doing so through plain email. (screenshot of website featured below)
Don't feel any pressure to submit to journals that require a submission fee- there are plenty of amazing journals both big and small that you can submit to for free
Tumblr media
Now I will say that some literary journals you may find won't use submittable (because a subscription to it as a literary journal is quite expensive) which is also fine! That just means you'll have to be more content with checking your email more often for responses
I know personally I had to look for journals that allowed more "outside of the box" writing/subject matter simply because my story featured cannibalism quite heavily and things like that can be a big no-no for other journals because it may not fit the general theme of their issue/clash with the stories they had already accepted for that time slot. So look for ones that best fit to your style! My professor had told me it's best to look for literary journals that don't worry about genre but it can be hard if you write for genres that are often hard sells (ie horror) for others.
i'd say the biggest thing personally was submitting to a lot of places. Many journals allow simultaneous submissions (submitting one story to multiple journals at once) but it's best to let them know initially and then withdraw as soon as you get accepted somewhere else. Sometimes it really is a numbers game of "if i submit this story to five places I'm more likely to get an acceptance from at least one of them" but keep in mind that 1. Not all journals allow simultaneous submissions and 2. If there's one journal in particular that you really really want to be featured in I'd recommend submitting your piece to only that one so you don't get jinxed and get accepted somewhere else before they have a chance to respond.
I know it may sound moot but keep an ongoing list of the journals you like and plan to submit to!! If you aren't using submittable, it can be very easy to lose track of the journals you want to submit to without anyway of definitely remembering them so I've started by making a google docs full of journals I come across that I want to one day be accepted in + their next submission deadline because once you look at so many its definitely easy for the titles and dates to slip your mind without thinking
And finally my biggest piece of advice is to be patient and take rejections with grace. Coming from somebody who has had her stories rejected multiple times and is currently on staff for a literary journal: rejections don't mean your story is bad. It can mean they already accepted too many of the same theme/subject, the story doesn't match the theme of their current issue or many other topics. You're a talented writer and you can't let rejections pull you away from submitting! As frustrating as it is, publication for a lot of us is a small group of fish in a very big pond of rejections, as is the way of writing!
Anyways- be patient, be confident, and have fun!

hi ! i had a question n hope it’s not too weird but i never played the sims growing up n have no knowledge on it but always dreamed of playing it, it seems like so much fun but the game also seems kinda complicated to get into… do u have any tips on how to start playing it, mods, how to use them, etc… thank u so much for taking the time to read this n have a great day/night <33
Hey! I totally understand that! I started playing because I saw a friend playing it and fell completely in love with it. For starting playing it, I would first just learn the basics of the game. I would highly recommend my friend Krista's article on Sims Community for that!
For help keeping your game healthy I would check out this article written by my wonderful friend SrslySims. Some other great places to check out would be: Sims Community (You can follow us on Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) Carl's Sims 4 Guide
I've found that watching YouTube videos helped me a lot. I would suggest: EnglishSimmer James Turner
If you're having trouble with your game, I would recommend checking out Crin's blog.
If you cannot find your answer there, you can always find me in either Srsly's Lounge or Ravasheen Discord Servers.
As for mods, SnarkyWitch wrote this great article on how to start with Mods that I recommend. I highly recommend her poses if you get a chance to check them out!
As for organizing your mods folder, TwistedMexi has an ESSENTIAL video about organizing your mods folder.
Some creators I highly recommend are:
Ravasheen, SrslySims, Carl, @needleworkreve, @kingzaceofsims, @oswanily, @chippedcupanddustybooks, @alistu, @itsonlythee-sims, @anachrosims, @aj-nebula, @pandasamacc, @icemunmun, @mizoreyukii, @syboubou, @aroundthesims, @robinksimblr, @nolan-sims
(my apologies for the tags, I have little time to add the links in and wanted to suggest you all) Also, Maxis Match CC World on Tumblr is an excellent resource and so is TS4 Poses.
And finally, if you'd like to read any of my articles, you can find them on Sims Community.
If you'd like individualized help, send me a DM and I can invite you to my Discord Server. There's a lot of people there who are willing to help new Simmers out!
If I missed anything, let me know and I can always send more links. :)

skystudiees here... it been a while (excluding the few recent posts).
initionally, i opened this blog to share my journey of my final year at university along with my progress with studying japanese. since graduating, i mostly focused on my japanese language progress. in recent times, i have metioned that i have struggled to stay motivated with studying and i still am. i have decided to officially take a break (excluding duolingo) for the time being.
for me, i didn't feel right to stay as a study blog. i was no longer a student and just metioned, i wasn't studying japanese. additionally, this blog reminded me too much of uni - i won't go into details but i didn't have the uni experience i wanted (posting study related stuff reminded me too much of uni).
because of this, i have decided to leave the studyblr community. thank you to all the lovely people i have discovered during this time - i wish you all the best!!
but i'm not going anywhere...
i've decided to change my username - i already stole @skyonfilm for my film/tv sideblow (u can follow if you would like) so i had to come up with something different. i came up with @skyonlinee hopefully you all like it!!
i was debating on starting fresh and as i do sort of document some parts of my life of here, i couldn't find many reason to not keep using this page. i will keep my posts up like they are old diary entries so anyone can look at anytime.
most of the blog is life stuff, youtube and other stuff i get round to (along with a study update here and there). and i'm gonna try to be more active on here. i am active elsewhere on youtube, twitter, instagram, pinterest and tiktok (i'm kinda everywhere lmao) if you would like to see more, your choice!
as a treat... i have decided to share all the skystudiees song recommendations here (i made this playlist so i wouldn't recommend the same song twice lmao). hopefully you will find some hidden gems in there!!
once again, thank you to everyone to has ever liked, relogged and followed skystudiees during this time - it was very very much appriciated. if you aren't intrested in the stuff i post now - you are very welcome to unfollow if you would like!!
hope you all have a lovely day!!

sue tries to get her life in order, pt 1
(screams)
This is mostly just me getting vague thoughts and hazy plans on paper and processing better; not necessarily imperative to anyone. I'm kinda getting repetitive at this point BUT I've found some footing. so after this I'll start to tackle more personal things like hygiene, time management--basically things within my bubble
DRAWLING TIME
with that out of the way.
I'm still organizing my feed, who I'm following, and so on. so hopefully, I'll interact more down the road! I have yet to really be checking others' pages...for now :3 and of course, organizing tags/cw/info/so on. any likes/follows/related are going to show up as @suedraws.
speaking of, debating how I want to handle that. honestly, with how little my art account has overall, it might be best to start fresh with a new account; it's hard to decide how and where I want to separate my personal and professional artist self.
the other one that i might possibly use more is @ladykopaka; at this point I'm not really interested in involving myself with the community at large. friends and some groups are exceptions. also have this be a location for my Chasing Stars project
so then that leaves here, @suedrawl. besides being casual/personal use, trying to hype myself up to do some form of blogging and writing. i have an entire actual blog i'd like to use for those reasons.(suedrawl.blog)
finally, while nothing is planned yet--I did create @thepurplenote \o/ (and did invite some folks to use it too!)
still observing how twitter is going to pan out. i'd love to use Instagram more, but it can be a bit draining/overstimulating (even if it's mostly good vibes and love keeping up with friends). facebook is...kinda just there lmao; mostly to see photos of my nephews and nieces, and annoy the hell out of old family friends who are borderline trump-supporters. DeviantArt? No. Otherwise, that leaves Artstation, but that's strictly more business minded. I know everyone is trying things like Mastadon (I recommend it tbh) or pillowfort. I don't really have much time or energy to do those; maybe in the future (keep me updated, always willing to try things)
discord is sorta its entirely own thing--i mostly lurk (love stealing those emojis) in big servers. there are a couple I'm in of friends (gosh i feel bad i need to say hi more). but most of my energy is focused at The Purple Note/friends there. At the end of the day it's my responsibility, and I will continue to maintain it and be mom friend/support all yall wonderful, loving, supportive nerds. Never hesitate to contact me, no matter what time or day. while I'm working on better handling my server mum powers, it's still an important promise to keep of sorts.
Okay, I was about to write up a thing on me Sucking Hard at One to One Chats, but that's just gunna go in its own blog post. BUT TO STATE: I am never ever bothered by good friends, even if I forget to reply. If I have an issue, I will address it. Usually, I'm more than happy to initiate, but I am going to take a step back from that for a bit. But also this is not a sign that you have to or that I will take offense if it's quiet. I'm not usually a person that "needs" interaction from others, rather what gives me purpose is how I can give. It's kinda confusing tho and I'm still trying to understand what I want and need. Thank you for your patience lmao.
if anyone has questions, advice, so on, yell at me! while I'm embracing my solitary needs, I still enjoy all this for many reasons. I'm hoping this can be a jumping point to now face other challenges and obstacles
love u all smooch thank u for reading if you did XD

Hi againnnn
I asked earlier how you found lando easy to write
Girl I cannot begin to express how much your insight is saving me rn I’m super new to f1 and I haven’t rlly been too active in trying to watch races live so your reactions afterward help me understand stuff better💕💕
I legit woke up in time to follow the updates on twitter for the last ten laps 😳 it was so crazy watching the ranks and just going through like ten thousand emotions waiting for lando to give up the spot I was so worried he’d be an ass and not give it up but then immediately was so excited for Oscar and yet so sad idk😔😔
I’ve yet to watch any post race interviews and stuff so if you can recommend certain things that’d be great
Also just had to let you know that I love the gifs you reblog😩😩 Oscar is so real when he says the trophy is pretty cuz if I was an f1 driver Hungary would be top goal just to get those trophies and his reaction is so real you can just see it on his face even tho he’s not saying much I think you might be slowly converting me into an Oscar phase🙈
Can I be 🤩anon pls (rlly hoping thats not taken😭)
hiiiiii!!!! of course u can be 🤩 anon!!! the emojis i have taken so far are 🍓 🏏 and 🧃 !
anyway TBH i only got into f1 at the beginning of the year, and only properly after the japan race i believe. so it’s all coming out my ass a bit😭 i pick the right language up fairly quickly so i feel like my knowledge sounds more impressive than it actually is. but thank u anyway!!! i read opinions on here and f1 articles so it’s coming from somewhere legitimate at least.
and re: post race interviews i generally wait for them to pop up on the dash organically or even instagram. they make me stressed out so i don’t seek them out. as for some good sources of information definitely the formula 1 app. i follow a bunch of accounts on ig like racing news (i would take them with a grain of salt. it good to see which rumours are out there but unless something is 100% confirmed/announced i don’t trust it), thef1girlies, maniaonboard, fanbehaviourf1pod and dishdoesf1! i follow just a ton of accounts and even if they’re not totally reliable its just information to sift through at least.
i also talk to my fiancé about things occasionally because he knows a lot more about racing than i do and doesn’t care for f1 pretty much so it’s an impartial opinion for sure.
god and yeah the race made me sooo stressed. i’m frustrated but overall feeling good about oscar’s win. im looking forward to how mclaren and the boys handle everything and also their races for the rest of the season. i hope this is a constructive thing for them all.
🤭 oh and yay the oscar agenda is SPREADING!!!! i’m so happy for him and i’m glad it wasn’t totally soured by mclarens fuck up. he deserved it, i’m sure he knows that.
