LMAO so funny thing is everyone knows the whole Sonic and Shadow looking alike thing is total bullshit and I totally agree those comments they try to pull in the games and show(s? I'm not technically a Sonic fan I dunno if it's multiple) make basically no sense to me but then my Mom comes in while watching Sonic Prime and says "So what, Sonic has a brother or something?" and this whole other world has opened up to me and I've seen the truth of it all

rewatched yugioh bonds beyond time for the first time in honestly possibly a decade and spending an hour and a half to watch a fifty minute movie while my now-adult brother who still actively plays tears it to absolute shreds over the many rules it completely ignores and cards it just makes up is the single best thing yugioh has ever gifted me

okay so the bad news is that my wifi is out (in that it is very very slow most of the time rn) and i have very little data and don’t really wanna buy more so that’s why i’ve been less active. the good news (for Me) is that netflix still mostly works so i’ve been watching through the entirety of yugioh duel monsters so like at least i’m not bored and stuck in 144p youtube land. the great news is that i’ve decided that i think it’d be fun to try and make my own trading card game. because all i’ve been doing for the past two days has been watching an anime about a tcg. this is a very good idea with no flaws

While we’re talking about Tokyo Mew Mew this week, and I’ve seen discussion of the 4Kids dub, I want to give a specific shoutout to the Official 4Kids Cartoon Block Forum, which was SO lax in its moderating that there were lengthy threads of people complaining about how they were cutting things for the dub up to and including people EXPLICITLY talking about things that were cut (ranging from “why on Earth would you cut the fact that ‘Mirabelle’s parents are divorced?” and “Okay if you want the Doremi bit to be a theme in all the girls’ names, sure, but have you considered watching ahead to make sure none of the characters you’re locking names in for now become witch apprentices later?” for Ojamajo Doremi to “lol, yeah, no, Nami actually stabs him there is no ‘rubber knife’” in One Piece and speculation as to what they’d do towards the end of TMM where the violence became uncuttable and people started dying.)

Like, I want to be clear here: The press release quote was that by the time they were done localizing, “kids wouldn’t know this was from Japan.” And there were threads of teenagers EXCLUSIVELY using characters’ Japanese names explaining exactly how hard they were failing at this, on the Official 4Kids Forum. 10-year-old me was fascinated, and also thought the uncut versions of these shows sounded way more interesting.
