One of my biggest pet peeves is when someone comments on a HC post I’ve done to tell me “no, they wouldn’t do that” or tell me they think I’m wrong. You don’t have to agree with my HCs. I didn’t write them for you, I wrote them for me. I also write them based on my current knowledge of characters and would definitely appreciate someone not backing up their comment with spoilers for things I haven’t seen in the game yet. If you don’t agree with me, that’s fine. But don’t comment on the fic to tell me that. People who write on tumblr (and I’m using write loosely in this sense because this was a HC post and not one of my fics) already get so little feedback and engagement from other blogs (aside from a like) that it doesn’t exactly make us feel good or want to share more thoughts or writing when the engagement we do get is some nameless, post-less blog shitting on what we wrote

not to get on my soapbox or anything but you have given me a great corner to shout from

as a disclaimer I totally understand why people will choose not to read wips and I truly think you know your mental health and what you can stand to wonder about/think about/obsess over/NEED to know a conclusion for better than anyone else

BUT as a writer who almost exclusively posts in wips, people reading them before they’re finished is my life blood and I am so grateful and it makes the writing process so much more fun for me because I know at least someone else is invested in my brainworm of a story?? someone else is enjoying it and thinking about it and I’m putting a small amount of good into the world??

the best analogy I’ve been able to come up with is like:

when you read a finished fic you’re eating a whole meal and that’s great that’s so amazing (especially if you tell the cook you liked it after you’re done). and you’re literally always welcome to eat that meal whenever you want. finished fics are like standing dinner invitations: I am always happy to have you and I mean that very genuinely

but if you read a wip, you’re keeping me company in the kitchen while I cook. and that’s sort of priceless. in some instances, you can even tell me the food needs more spice and I’ll think about it and listen!!! you’re sitting on my kitchen counter as I bustle around my space and we’re talking about what I’m doing and also how I’m feeling and maybe how you’re feeling and it just feels like community more than anything else I’ve experienced in any fandom. like you’re with me in my space as I’m creating food I hope you like. we’re both invested and it’s amazing

and I think in general that’s why wips are a lot of fun and also maybe why the waiting between chapters is fun for you - you’ve suggested that I add paprika to the pot and you’re waiting and wondering if I will, and I’m laughing and hoping you like the soup either way but also wondering if paprika will work with the recipe, and if I can add a bit to it just for you while staying true to the dish I envisioned at the get go.

i think it’s fine to be annoyed or uncomfortable with some things that you see or hear in public (someone watching tiktoks on their phone on the bus is annoying, someone screaming on the metro platform makes me uncomfortable) bc those are just human responses to things. the issue is when you refuse to accept that you are not the main character of the universe and sometimes you will have to be annoyed or uncomfortable bc that’s what happens when you live in close proximity to other people

lastly. this is fiction. these aren’t real life people my guy. none of this is deep enough to send messages like this. people create and write such amazing work here and you just trivialize it all to “eeeew girls are taking over cool characters and ruining my machismo vibes writing gay people having sex eeeeeew”

people are JUST as susceptible today to misinterpretation of art and music as they were in the 60s, maybe even more so! you see people clearly thinking that they they have the full picture, and they surely understand what artists like Bob were doing or what they were about, because it was so long ago and we have the historical context and the ripple effects to look at them through. but so many people are even further away from understanding BECAUSE of that and I think that a lot of people here who think very highly of their opinions on these artists and are so discerning about who they lift up and who they put down are actually deluded by the same lack of perspective and understanding that critics and audiences of these things have always suffered from

this goes hand in hand with 'the only way to make io blush is to say romantic shit to them not lewd shit' but their confidence is nearly unshakeable, tbh? they don't bat at an eye about being half nude/nude in front of people. they like to take the lead anyway. and anyone focusing on them is usually met with someone who enjoys making sure their partner knows they appreciate the attention, and isn't shy about saying what does and doesn't work for them. a partner kind of has to work for it to make io start to melt. focusing on their weak spots, overwhelming them, denying them - all of those things will make io start to slip into more of a hazy, lust-driven focus rather than the straight-up confidence they use to lead a sexual encounter.

I’m probably just cranky because I’m tired but I just saw a post about “daddy giving me an allowance” and my immediate thought was “oh sick, that would be fun for a scene, but if that was my day to day life that would almost certainly become financial abuse”

Also fun relevant opinion of mine from when I was a teen: parents being able to treat money and financial freedom like a privilege that has to be earned, and often severely underpaying their children for what is essentially being a live in maid service should be a fucking crime

(yes I am still mad that my parents gave me 20 bucks a month for being the main person to keep their disgusting apartment somewhat clean, and taking care of 4 dogs, and doing any menial tasks my parents were too fucking lazy to do, all while my best friend at the time only had to take out the trash and watch his little brother and he was getting 100 dollars a week, this went completely off the rails I am tired)
