Y/N Barnes is the name you went by. You wore the name proudly, especially the day you married Bucky. He was your soulmate and you couldn't imagine living without him until the day Steve told you he disappeared with the many others in the blip. Steve stayed by your side, the two of you only having each other as you grieved your husband. A month after the blip you found out you were pregnant. "How am I supposed to do this Steve? How am I going to raise his baby without him here?" "I'll be here. It's not the same thing. But I'll try my best."
Eight and a half months later you had given birth to a beautiful babygirl. Rosalina Marie Barnes. Steve stared at the newborn in his arms, "She has his eyes." "I know. I stared at them for an hour wanting to cry." "Why Rosalina?" "Bucky always brought home roses. Didn't matter the occasion. Sometimes just because he hadn't brought me flowers in a while, but they were always roses. Even if it was just a single rose that he picked off a random bush. I had to work that in someway in his honor."
Pepper and Tony helped you as much as you'd let them, Morgan being born around the same time as Rosalina. The two girls became best friends, as they slowly got bigger. Soon they were able to walk and run causing chaos wherever they went.
As five years passed you learned how to live without Bucky. You always told Rosalina about her dad, to keep his memory, and to answer any question she may have had about him. She understood why she didn't have her dad, and as much as it hurt her to know she may never meet him she still loved him with her entire heart.
When Steve told you the Avengers were trying to reverse the blip you didn't know what to feel, thankful Morgan and Rosie were off playing unable to hear the conversation. "This is a good thing y/n." "I know." "You don't sound like its good." "Steve. I spent the last five years without my husband, grieving him. I spent the last five years as a single mother. Spending everyday looking into his blue eyes without him there next to me raising that beautiful girl. And you're telling me you think you guys found a way to bring him and the rest of the world back? Steve what happens when he comes back and he decides a kid is too much for him, or he thinks that I'm not the same person I was when the blip happened? Because I'm not. I spent five years trying to get over him just to fail everyday. I climb into bed everyday just wanting to be held in his arms and to get a whiff of his cologne but cant." You stop yourself unable to finish your train of thought, "Steve. As much as I missed him and as much as I wished he was there for Rosie growing up this is a big change."
When you go home and tell Rosie that Uncle Steve was trying to bring her daddy home she climbed into your bed with your giant photo album asking you to tell the stories of all the pictures in the book. "What's this one mommy?" "That's the day mommy married daddy." "You look like a princess." "I felt like one. Your daddy always made me feel like one." "Do you still love daddy?" "I'll always love him baby. Just like I'll always love you." "Do you think he'll love me?" "I think so. How could he not?" "He's never met me." "Doesn't mean he can't love you. I'm sure your Uncle Steve will tell him all about you."
And he did, as they were being transported back Bucky asked about you. "What happened to Y/N?" "She survived the blip Buck." Bucky could see the look on Steve's face, "What happened?" "Nothing bad. Depending on how you take it. Uh. Y/N found out she was pregnant a month after the blip happened." Bucky stayed silent as the information processed in his head making Steve continue with a proud smile on his face, "You have a daughter Buck. Shes every bit as crazy as Y/N, but shes stubborn like you. Besides your eyes shes her mini me." Steve pulls out his phone and shows him a picture of the three of you on Rosie's last birthday, "She named her Rosalina. Rosie for short. Rosalina Marie Barnes." "She kept my name?" "She couldn't bring herself to go by anything else. She loves you Buck even while you were gone. There hasn't been a day she didn't miss you, even Rosie knows who you are."
When they land Steve calls you to tell you that Tony died. "How's Pepper doing?" "You know Pepper." "Working through everything. How is he?" "Why don't you ask him yourself?" Steve hands the phone to Bucky, the sound of his voice immediately making you cry, "Hey doll." "Buck." The sound of your sniffles makes him want to tear up, "You dont know how much I missed you." "I can imagine it doll. Steve told me we have a daughter." "She's beautiful Buck. Wait until you see her."
The day of Tony's funeral you're helping Rosie get ready trying to avoid being late, but it seems she has other plans. Bucky waits nervously, for him it's only been a week since the last time he saw you, but he knows that it's been five years and you'll be with your daughter. Steve nudges him when your car pulls in and the pair watch as you climb out and go around before you're helping Rosie out as she carrys a gift bag. Pepper followed by Happy and Morgan reach you first, you quickly pull Pepper in with a sad smile "Sorry we're late Rosie had other plans." You watch as Rosie hands Morgan the bag, before she grins as she pulls out a rabbit stuffed animal dressed like iron man, "Squeeze it Morgan." You watch as her and Pepper get teary eyed when the rabbit speaks in Tony's voice, from a recording from one of Tony's voice files, "I love you 3000." Pepper looks at you, "How did you get that?" "I have my ways, theres one more thing." You reach into the bag and pull out a small stuffed cheeseburger that attaches to the bunnies hand, Pepper looks at you, "That's perfect. Thank you." Morgan hugs your legs as she looks at you unable to say anything. Happy looks at you with a sad smile, "I think theres someone waiting to see you. I can watch Rosie." "Thank you Happy."
You make your way towards Bucky and Steve, stopping in front of them as your eyes take Bucky in before you start tearing up. "Doll. You look beautiful." You can't even say anything before he takes you into his arms and you hold onto him tightly, afraid to lose him again. You both sway as you quietly cry doing the one thing you wanted to do for five years.
The three of you move to sit on the steps of the back porch, watching as Happy keeps the two girls entertained. "What's she like?" Steve chuckles as you say, "Sometimes she's a giant pain in my ass." "She's only saying that because she has her mother's attitude." You smile and shake your head, "Theres too much personality in one little body. You're going to have to find out for yourself. But she definitely takes after her dad." Bucky looks at you and Steve confused, "I've lost count of how many times I was asked to pick her up early from school because she got in a fight. A fight in preschool." You nudge Bucky, "Guess what she did?" He just shakes his head as Steve continues, "Every time I asked her she said the bigger kids were picking on the small kid so she fought the bullys." You chuckle, "Sound familiar?"
Ten minutes later she runs up to you, cuddling into your side as she peeks at the man shes called her dad in photos. "Mommy." Bucky can feel his heart thump as the word leaves her mouth, he's always wanted to experience having a child with you he just never imagined you'd do it without him. "Come here." You pull her onto your lap facing Bucky and Steve as she tries to hide in your hair. Not even a second later she's pulling something out of her jacket pocket. "These are yours." She hands Bucky his dog tags, you've told her they were something he never took off, but they fell during the blip and Steve brought them to you. She loved to play dress up with them, always being careful and returning them to their spot when she was done. Bucky looks at the spot where her hand touched his before slowly handing them back to her, "I believe you've kept them safe for this long." She smiles as she holds them to her chest and you kiss the top of her head.
When it is time to go Rosie grabs your hand before stopping and looking at Bucky and reaching for his hand, "Come on Daddy." You couldn't hide your smile, hearing her call him that and him actually being there and not just a picture. Steve nudges his best friend, "Go with your girls." Bucky smiles, "My girls. I like the sound of that." He grabs onto Rosie's hand with his giant hand compared to hers, the three of you walking back to your car. He watches as you help her into her seat before shutting her door, "I'll drive. We had to find a bigger home once she started walking. It's not too far from here."
As you drive Bucky finds himself smiling as you hum along to the music, something you've always done, what makes him stop and look in the backseat is the voice of his daughter singing along to the music as she kicks her feet and stares out the window at the passing trees. He can't hide his smile when he sees your smirk, "Like mother like daughter huh?"
When you park in the driveway Bucky stares at the house as Rosie runs inside, "Tony built it. This is his land, well Peppers now. I couldn't stay in that small apartment anymore. I needed a fresh start but couldn't bring myself to leave completely. After Morgan was born Pepper took over everything Tony did and gave me her old job as assistant. It let's me afford more than we needed without making me work all the time." Bucky still looks at the place you call home, you grab his metal hand, the cold metal having a familiar homey feeling to you, "Come on. There's so much she's dreamed about showing you." As soon as you step foot into the house and lock the door you smile hearing Rosie rummage around in her room, "You got this Buck. Trust me." You lead him to where her room is. When she grabs his hand to pull him further into the room and makes his seemingly giant frame sit on her little bed, handing him her favorite stuffed animals and telling him about each one you cant help but start to tear up, the life you always imagined for her happening right before your eyes.
Your phone buzzes and pulls you out of thought as you read the message from Pepper smiling at the picture attached. She managed to capture a picture of the three of you as you were leaving, Rosie in the middle as you held hands. Your backs were to the camera but its quickly become one of your favorite pictures. You quietly leave the room knowing Rosie is easy to entertain and good at playing host. You quickly open up your computer and after a few short minutes the picture Pepper sent you is printed out and you're sticking it in your photo album. As you close the book you stop remembering the bins you've kept in the garage all these years. You find the one you'd continuously dig through when you were pregnant and couldn't fit any of your clothes, and carry it inside. You stop when you see Rosie and Bucky standing in the hall, "There you are Mommy. I want to show daddy the pictures." You smile and nod, "How about we let daddy get into some more comfortable clothes while I make dinner?" She quickly let's go of his hand, "Can I help?" "Always Love."
Rosie becomes preoccupied with going through the pantry trying to find what she wants for dinner as you lead Bucky to what would now be your shared room. "You'll find everything easy. These are all your clothes. The rest of your stuff is in the garage, but that can wait until tomorrow." Bucky takes the box from you his hand finding the side of your face and you cant help but lean into his touch your eyes quickly finding his. "You kept everything?" With a nod you answer, "I couldn't bring myself to throw anything away. Or donate it. The thought of someone else wearing your clothes, making the smell of you go away was too much for me. And it helped that when I was pregnant and to big to fit in my own clothes that I had backups." For the first time in five years Buckys lips meet yours as you both get lost in the moment. It isn't until you hear a tiny "Eww" that makes you break apart. You both chuckle at the disgusted look on your daughters face as she stands in the doorway holding onto a box of macaroni and cheese, Bucky can't help himself, "What? You don't like this?" He gently turns your face so he can kiss you again, making you laugh into the kiss when Rosie pretends to gag. He let's you go and is quick to grab Rosie making her drop the box and let out happy giggles as he spins around. You immediately know what hes going to do as he stops in front of you, "How about this?" Before she can question anything you both press multiple kisses to her cheeks making her giggle even harder as she tries to push you both away, "That tickles!"
Just hearing the sounds of his daughter's giggles makes him immediately become protective. Even though he just met her he already knows how much he loves her and how he'd do anything to keep a smile on her face. The fact that you gave him a child makes him fall even more in love with you. When you both head to the kitchen to make dinner he can't shower fast enough, not wanting to miss a single moment with you both. As he walks down the hall he finally takes notice of the different pictures that line the walls. There's some of the two of you, some with Steve, with Tony, Pepper, and Morgan. He can see that you continued to live your life but stops at the ones with him in them. He sees your wedding picture and cant stop himself from touching the frame, next to it a picture of you pregnant, then one of you holding Rosie as a newborn. He gets taken out of thought when he can hear two giggles coming from the kitchen, he smiles thinking how much his daughter is exactly like her mother, and wouldn't change a thing.
Bucky slowly eases into your nighttime routine, and being around Rosie. Anytime he needs reassurance about what to do he'd look at you and you'd simply nod or shake your head. He watched as you tucked Rosie in for bed, her refusing to be tucked in unless he helped making you laugh. After you turned off her light he followed you to your room climbing into bed alongside you. "This side feels unslept in." "It should. I can't sleep on that side, when Rosie would climb into bed with me she always managed to sleep on top of me."
As soon as you feel yourself start to fall asleep you feel an all too familiar weight on top of you, "Rosie what are you doing out of bed?" Bucky reaches over to turn on the light in his half-asleep state shocked to find Rosie on top of you and under the blanket, "There's a monster under my bed." "And there's a gremlin under my blanket." Bucky can't fight the smile on his lips as he watches the mother-daughter duo. "Mommy, I need daddy to fight the monster." "Liar." "You don't know that." "Mmm i think I know my own child Rosie. You just want to sleep in here." She looks between you and Bucky with a smile he knows he'll end up giving into everytime, "Can I?" You look at Bucky, "It's up to you Sergant." He can only shrug, "She's already under the blanket." Rosie grins before snuggling in-between you both.
After Rosie's fast asleep Bucky feels her weight shift until he feels her weight on top of him, not even a second later he hears you quietly say, "I told you. Welcome home Buck."

bakugou cooking for his crush
Okay I just had the cutest idea: Bakugou falling for a classmate that's a really good eater. One day she stumbles across his food in the common fridge without knowing he cooked it. She steals a bite and is smitten with his food. And Bakugou, having seen the whole thing, becomes smitten with her.
Note: How this idea came about I have no clue... I just remember writing the entire thing on my phone at my grandparents’ house and really having fun writing it. To be honest, I don’t have the best grasp on Bakugou’s character, but I tried... For all my fellow food lovers out there!
Tags: more tooth-rotting fluff (the domestic kind), attempts at showing character development through cooking, Bakugou’s tough love (but of course, you’re here for that)

Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I'm imagining that Bakugou likes to keep his cooking skills on the down low, because who knows if idiots like Kirishima and Kaminari show up and start whining at him to cook them food, and he doesn't want to be teased as being 'domestic'
He doesn't think there's anything wrong with cooking since he's able to take care of himself and his health, but if his squad saw him in the kitchen in his apron he wouldn't ever be able to live it down
That said, he brings his freshly cooked meals into his room and opens his windows so the smell doesn't linger, and he stores his leftovers in the deep recesses of the fridge where no one would ever think to look, not even food thieves
Luckily or unluckily for him, you were no ordinary food thief.
Bakugou is on his way downstairs because he's feeling peckish and wants to heat up some of the leftovers of his favourite dish, so imagine his shock and anger when he sees you and Sero poring over the blue Tupperware housing his food
Before he can take a single seething step, though, you've already spooned a bite into your mouth
His eyes widen, and now he's really mad that an extra like you had the audacity to eat his food
But then you let out a near inhuman noise, and it sounds… intensely satisfied?
'Oh my god, who cooked this?' Unable to contain your excitement you're shaking Sero by the shoulders, lips drawing up in a contented smile. 'This is the best thing I've ever tasted!'
For some reason, Bakugou's not so mad anymore. Obviously because for an extra like you, at least you had taste
But something about the pure joy in your expression made Bakugou feel… guilty that he was going to stop you
It's absurd because if anyone should be feeling guilty, it's you
As he's thinking this, the snap of the closed Tupperware brings him back to his senses, and all of a sudden he's fleeing the scene so he's not discovered
He's even more bewildered because there's no reason for him to be running away, and he hates running away
But somehow he felt a bit awkward and… embarrassed after hearing what you had to say about his food
With that he decided that he'd let it go once, and maybe seal his container a bit tighter
But he's sorely mistaken the next morning at the breakfast counter when you begin gushing about his food once more
Remember when he thought that you should've felt guilty for eating his food? There's not an ounce of shame in your words, though.
You tell the story of your tastebuds' meeting with heaven when you and Sero found a container full of something inside the fridge, and out of curiosity, you decided to take a peek
'I didn't mean to eat it, I swear I didn't! But it just looked so good, and I could imagine how it tasted… but boy did it taste so much better than that!'
Bakugou's left reeling at this praise, and there's an uncomfortable feeling upsetting his stomach as he tries to wolf down his cereal, trying not to think about how your words made his ears burn
Then the punchline: 'If we have a guy in our class who cooks like this, I'd marry him in a heartbeat!'
Bakugou nearly spits his milk
Luckily no one notices, and are instead calling you out for your food thievery or watching your animated hand gestures
On his walk to class, Bakugou has no idea how he feels about this; he just wants to banish it to the corners of his mind so he wouldn't have to waste time thinking about something that shouldn't have mattered so much before
Right before he steps into class he's met with a flashback of your smile when you ate his cooking, and suddenly a plan pops into his brain
You show up in the kitchen the next few days, wanting to see if the 'blue Tupperware man' struck again with his fantastic dishes
More often than not, you're met with disappointment, but your eyes light up when you see the familiar blue sticking out in your vision when you open the fridge one day
You're shocked to find a note attached: 'To Y/N: I know you've been eating my food. You can only have a bite of this, but not one more. Don't think I can't tell if you do, I WILL know.'
You're all around mortified, though you realise you really shouldn't be: practically everyone heard your declarations of food thievery that day
But the last line drove home the fact that the person who cooked this was here, and was indeed a student
The first thing you do is scan the area behind you for any immediate signs of life, in case the chef had been watching you
But when nothing turns up, you shrug, and rub your hands together in excitement
You swear you could hear stifled laughter, but the lure of the food in front of you was too much to overcome in favour of an investigation
As you eat and, once again, fail to be disappointed, Bakugou's eyes are trailing your face
There it is: the same expression, if not even better than he remembered, that you put on when you ate good food
And suddenly, Bakugou wants to see that expression more
The next few times a similar note addressed to you accompanies every meal, but when you tried to reply you wouldn't get an answer back
Then one day, the notes just stopped. You felt sad for a while, but then perked up when you saw the contents of the Tupperware, containing some of your favourite ingredients
From then on it was a given that you could eat from the blue Tupperware, and not more than three bites
You still cringe at the stinginess, leading to Bakugou muffling his chuckles every time
He doesn't come and watch you eat every time, because it's creepy, for one thing
But sometimes he'd be in his room, just knowing that you'd be tiptoeing down the stairs in anticipation of what's in the fridge, and a small grin would tug at the corners of his mouth
He'd also made it clear that no one else would attempt to try his food. Once Kaminari tried to sneak a bite, but when he opened the container the stench of rotting beans knocked him out
Bakugou cackled as he dragged Kaminari back to his room, but not before switching out the containers with the one meant for you
He's also quick to throw anyone who's out to discover him off the scent (ha)
Besides doing so in the literal sense, as with Kaminari, Bakugou makes sure to stay out of everyone's radar in the kitchen, and even goes as far to put your portion in a separate pink Tupperware, with your name on it
Yeah, no way would such a sappy move be from blasty boy Bakugou, right?
You'd been playing this game for a few weeks now when you just can't take it anymore
Bakugou awakes one morning to discover a text message from you in the group chat:
'To the person who always leaves me food (aka blue Tupperware!!), please PLEASE show yourself! I really want to get to know the person who makes such wonderful food!'
He felt his heart swell, and he's painfully reminded of your first words of how you'd marry him for his cooking
He's grateful he's blushing alone in his room
At this declaration in the group chat, however, more and more 'investigations' are popping up
Deku is a particularly difficult person to distract and Bakugou hates it
But so far he's been keeping it together, all he has to do is stick it out a bit longer
That's when Mineta of all people tries to impersonate him
Bakugou's infuriated when he's checking on you one night and you fish a note out of your container
'What's this?' you muse aloud, and begin reading it out aloud, much to Bakugou's benefit, 'Meet me behind the dorms tomorrow after school. I'll show you who I am.'
Bakugou knows it's definitely not him who wrote it, but he can't stop the rage arising in his chest when he sees your eyes light up in excitement
Who is this impostor and when and where would they like their ass being whooped?
Bakugou decides once again to investigate in his usual ninja fashion that he's perfected from watching you
He follows you to the back of the school discreetly, where you bounce on the balls of your feet in impatience
Suddenly a familiar purple head emerges from the bushes, and Bakugou has to physically restrain his palms from crackling
'Mineta?' He's happy that your eyebrows furrowed at the sight of him, but he's suddenly left reeling when he has an introspective moment about why he's been playing this game all along
He felt too afraid to face you. Too afraid to show his domestic side, and too afraid to come clean and say he cares. He knows he doesn't have the best personality in class, but he really wants your impression of him as ‘blue Tupperware’ to stay untainted and pristine
What would you think, then, if you discovered that your mystery chef was the abrasive, antagonistic Katsuki Bakugou, who didn't seem to have an ounce of empathy for anyone? Even worse, would you believe him even if he told you?
More than what it would do to his reputation, he realised that he didn't want you to see him in a bad light at all.
However, he's also mentally kicking himself because now bastards like Mineta can come and impersonate him
However, the words that leave your mouth makes him still
'You're the Blue Tupperware guy? Prove it.' There's a challenging smile atop your lips as you stare down Mineta, who falters from his previously smug swagger
'What do you mean? I cook you food, you love it. That's all there is to it, right?' A derisive laugh leaves you.
'Then tell me the names of the dishes you've made for me.' Mineta stands stock still, trying to comprehend what you've just asked of him. The beads of sweat now trailing down his neck don't escape your notice.
After some painful stammering and guesswork, then a beat of silence, you sigh. 'I kind of thought this would happen.'
'However, if it really honestly had been you, I wouldn't be mad. Because if I knew you were the one cooking with so much care and love, I'd still thank you for the meals.'
Bakugou's head goes blank. His hands begin sweating uncontrollably, and he's brought back to his senses when he hears his palms pop.
As he controls his quirk he's desperately trying to make sense of what you just said, but only one word rings out clear and true in his brain.
'Love'.
And suddenly he's trying not to grin at your epic shutdown of Mineta, trying not to feel his heart flutter when he pictures your multitude of expressions in all their glory, and trying not to remember the feeling of when he'd lie in his bed at night, the last thought he has before he drifts off to sleep being 'what should I cook next?'
He's in love with—
The sounds of footsteps coming in his direction shake him out of his reverie and he all but dives behind a pillar as you march off, leaving Mineta in the dust
Before the purple-haired pervert can leave, however, he's suddenly held up by the collar of his shirt, eyes wide before a murderous red gaze
'Try one more thing with her and I'll make sure you don't wake up the next day.'
From then on, Bakugou's mood lifts considerably.
Not only is he confident Mineta wouldn't rat him out (all he has to do is shoot him a glare), but he's eternally proud of how you stood up for him
Speaking of which, can he take your words you spoke to Mineta that day to mean that you wouldn't at all feel uneasy with whoever Blue Tupperware was, as long as you knew it was really him?
Now he's stuck with thinking of ways to shoot his shot
Little does he know that chance might come sooner than he thought…
One day he's running late because his work studies ran overtime
He'd planned to make something a little more complicated and out of his repertoire, though it may take him longer than usual
Though when he'd discovered what you liked to eat through your conversations with friends and what you ate in the cafeteria, he didn't mind, couldn't mind the extra hassle at all
It's not a difficult recipe, but he knows that it'll be dinnertime soon and that'd be dangerous
He looks at the clock, noting the twenty minutes he has before the first students come trickling into the common room. You won't be here until thirty minutes after. So he locks himself in the kitchen and gets to work
(yes I now know it doesn’t make sense for him to not be discovered in the kitchen during dinnertime, so let’s just say no one usually wanders in because all the meals are usually laid out in the common room when dinner rolls around)
He's smiling as he spoons the freshly cooked food into the Tupperwares, letting it cool for a bit as he washes up
But when he turns around holding them in his hands to put into the fridge, he freezes
There you stand in the doorway, eyes wide
'... Bakugou?' Damn, he would've relished the sound of his name on your tongue if you hadn't been looking at him like… like that. 'Are you Blue Tupperware?'
As much as he wants to laugh at the stupid nickname, he knows how straightforward and sharpshooting you can be with your words and intentions. And so the only thing that comes out of his mouth is:
'So what if I am?'
A beat of silence, then two. And suddenly your face morphs from bewilderment to pure joy, maybe even purer than when you eat his food. God bless his eyes that could bear witness to that moment.
'It's you!' you exclaim and a laugh as hearty as your appetite leaves your lips, and he's just awed, amazed. 'Thank you for the food!'
The immediate aftermath was everyone gaping at the both of you as if you each grew two heads as you ate from your respective containers
Sitting across him, you ask, 'Well… why did you do it?'
He’d imagined that you’d ask something like that, and he’s prepared an answer for it, but the eagerness in your smile, along with every other eye on him, prompted him to instead blurt:
'To… to stroke my ego and shit.'
Everyone goes painfully silent except for you, who leans back and laughs, 'As expected of you, Bakugou! But either way I get to eat really well, so thank you!'
You've been saying thank you for a while now, but what he can't get out of his head is that you expected him to be all narcissistic about cooking you food for his own selfish reasons? Man does that hurt.
But somehow, the others buy it too (which just really goes to show how much of a jerk the class paints him out to be), and the case of Blue Tupperware is solved
Now all that's changed is you pop in occasionally when Bakugou's cooking, and there are nights where you eat together
Oh, and the fact that he now knows you can’t cook for shit
You’ve tried to help Bakugou cook before, but at the time he'd felt as if he was in for a very rude awakening
However you are a god at cooking instant noodles of any shape or kind, so much so that when he misses you (or craves you lol) he eats instant noodles
Then again they'd never taste quite the same as when you cook them asifkajdks
When he actually confesses it's when you, out of the goodness of your heart, ask if you can help him out once more
He always finds himself giving in btw
But then you burn another pot and it's tough not to get frustrated
He's under stress, the weight of his sweat on his brow coupled with his ever growing feelings for you leads him to have even less of a filter on his mouth
'You obviously suck at this.' he says, noting your sad puppy eyes and willing himself not to surrender. 'Just let me do it.'
'But I feel bad that you're always cooking for me, and all I do is enjoy it.' You're biting your lip now, and it's all Bakugou can do before he starts thinking about what it'd be like to push you against the sink and kiss you senseless.
'Nonsense. It's enough that you enjoy my cooking, so let me do it. Let me take care of you.'
That last part did slip out, as denoted by the look on your face
'Wow,' again your straightforwardness comes into play, 'that sounded like a confession right there if I've ever heard one!'
Before he can stop himself—'do you wish it was?'
'Huh?'
'A confession—do you wish it was one?'
He watches your cheeks go tomato red and you purse your lips
'Do you wish that I wish it was?'
Aw, now you just playin
'I'm not hearing a no.'
'Neither am I.'
And then you nerds proceed to stare each other down in a palpable silence, the only sounds being the bubble of the soup in the pot before you
Who confesses first?
'Dumbass. I like you.'
You instantly beam, and you jump into his arms, even though you're dangerously close to the fire. Bakugou blanches, then draws you away from the stove
'Oi, watch it! You could get hurt, idiot,' but you're too focused on the way his arms had naturally wrapped around you to keep you safe and shielded
'You'll protect me, won't you?' you say, smushing your cheek against his chest. Bakugou sighs and places a hand on your head soothingly
'You bet I will.'
Bonus scene! “And that's how your father and I got together,” you say with a smile, as your four year old son bounces excitedly in your lap, while your six year old rolls her eyes at the amount of times you've told this story. “Yeah, we get it Mom.”
Your son has a different take on it though. “Start again! Again, again!” You let out a sigh mixed in with a chuckle at his insistence, but just then the wafting aroma of shrimp hits your nose. You close your eyes as you feel footsteps coming closer, and the warmth of your husband leaning in close to you as he sets the table leaves you giddy.
“Okay, that's enough storytelling for today,” Katsuki grumbles, placing the shrimp pesto on the table. Your daughter instantly perks up at the sight; she might not be as good an eater as you are, but she has a particular fondness for pasta. “Yay! It's pasta time!”
You set down your son in his chair as his eyes gleam at the feast in front of him, then walk up to your husband. 'Thank you so much, babe,' you relish the sight of Katsuki's ears, previously stained red from listening to your 'story', turning even redder.
“If you really want to thank me, there's something you need to do,” Katsuki mutters in a low voice, his gaze surreptitiously looking down at himself. You follow his eyes, and immediately burst out laughing.
“You're wearing it for us!” You'd really like to capture a photo of him in the 'Kiss the Chef' apron you'd gotten him for his birthday last year as a gag gift. Could Katsuki turn any redder?
“Shut up! Who burned my other apron the other day, hmm?”
This time you blush. “Maybe it was an expert ploy to get you to wear this,” you laugh, and before a snappy retort can leave his lips, you're smothering them with your own mouth. “Love you.”
You embrace him, arms lazily reaching for the apron strings in order to tug them undone, but your husband is pulling you in too, hands on your waist as he tucks your head in the corner of his neck so you can't see him or hear his next words too well. But you hear them nonetheless.
“I love you too.'”

Tumblr media
AAAAA this is so kind of you, thank so much and a happy holidays to you too!! <3 You’re always so lovely to me! I’m sorry that I’m posting this on Boxing Day, but I hope it’s still okay for you!
RFA and Reader Snowball Fight Headcanons
Yoosung Kim Snowball Fight Headcanons
You would have been visiting Yoosung at his university over Christmas, it has already started to heavily snow whilst you were on your way so by the time you actually got there, the snow had fallen to several inches.
Yoosung was so excited about the snow, it reminds him of when he was young and would make snowmen in the garden with his Rika and his sister. He’d look a little crestfallen thinking about it, and you offered to build a snowman outside on campus with him.
The two of you built the snowman together, dressing it in a scarf and sending silly pictures of the three of you to the RFA chat. It was then, as Yoosung was trying to take his own selfie with it, that you launched a snowball right into the back of his head and he caught it on camera.
He feels so betrayed, pouting as he looked at you with big puppy eyes.
He won’t retaliate until you laugh and begin scrambling to craft another snowball, at which point Yoosung with try to hide behind the snowman as a shield. He has to fight back, his time on LOLOL has trained him for this.
He throws a few snowballs out from behind the snowman, and then gets hit with one in the face when he peeks around to see if any made contact with you.
He’s laughing and having fun as you throw the snow, and it continues for a few minutes until you’ve tired yourselves out and return to his dorm for a hot shower and warm hot chocolate.
Zen/Hyun Ryu Snowball Fight Headcanons
The two of you would be on a winter date in the park. Zen was marvelling at how the pure white snow compliments his air, and makes the red of his eyes stand out against the crisp background and how th- Bam. You hit him on the side of the head with a snowball, instantly silencing his handsome spiel.
‘Jagiya! How could you do that to m-’ Bam, another one hitting him in the shoulder. He watched as you giggled, scrambling to gather enough snow for another attack and his heart just melted, he can’t stay mad at you. But, he also can’t lose: his ego would not allow it.
He grabs a fistful of snow and starts chasing you through the thick snow, his trousers are getting a little wet but he doesn’t mind, you’re having fun. You turn back mid-run to throw another snowball at him, but miss. Zen takes this opportunity to throw his own snowball at you, hitting you on the ass and earning a smirk from him.
You try to throw more, but Zen runs for fun, there’s no way that you could overtake him. You manage to get a few more snowballs thrown in his general direction but the majority of them miss and you somehow strumble and fall backwards into the snow as he got close.
Zen tried to stop himself falling, he really did, but the snow was heavy on his feet and he ended up falling on top of you, caging your body with his own.
After the initial moment of distress, he couldn’t help but think how beautiful you looked with the snowflakes falling into your hair and on your eyelashes. He leaned in and planted a kiss onto the corner of your mouth, his lips slightly cold from the weather.
The two of you smiled, and then you scooped up a handful of loose snow and threw the dusting into his face.
Jaehee Kang Snowball Fight Headcanons
You were hard-pushed to get Jaehee to go out in the cold weather, she was too busy and didn’t particularly fancy getting her clothes wet. After enough pleading, she finally relented and agreed to make a snowman with you as long as it didn’t take too long.
The two of you made a small snowman together, and gave it a small ponytail. You sent a picture of it to the RFA chat with the simple caption ‘Snowzen’.
She would be getting ready to go back inside to make coffee when you hit her in the back of her shoulder with a snowball.
After a brief moment of disbelief followed by a sigh, Jaehee would wait until you weren’t looking to quickly grab some snow and throw it at you. Obviously, she missed.
But that still instigated a war. You grinned.
You both started gathering snow and throwing it at one another: yours in attack, Jaehee’s in defense. It wasn’t often that she got to loosen up, so you were happy to see her laughing on this rare occasion.
Snowzen got beheaded in the fight.
Saeyoung Choi in a snowball fight Headcanons
Firstly, it’s not a snowball fight, it’s war.
Seven would have been working into the early hours of the morning when he realised it was snowing and had an absolutely awful idea for a prank.
He went out into his garden, calmly grabbed a fistful of snow, took his time on his way back inside to smooth it into a perfectly spherical ball, prayed, and then launched it into your sleeping face from across the room and fucking bolted.
He knew he was a deadman. You sent in a text demanding that he meet you outside in twenty minutes to settle the score like men.
Once the smug bastard comes out, you immediately throw a snowball into his face but he ducked, so your snowball missed the target. You forgot he had physical training from the agency and realised this was going to be a lot more difficult than you originally thought.
You weren’t even sure how he manages to make so many snowballs in such a small amount of time  but in the time it takes it you to craft three, he’s got twice as many done and he’s beginning to propel them at you.
There were about twenty minutes of all-out warfare, with Seven doing dramatic leaps behind bushes and rolls to escape your attacks, all whilst managing to hit you with practically every snowball he threw.
You were so happy to see him having such fun, knowing that he never got to do this as a child.
It was safe to say he won the snowball fight, and had to give you pouty kisses afterwards to make up for his prank.
Jumin Han Snowball Fight Headcanons
Jumin had never been in a snowball fight before and isn’t entirely sure what he’s supposed to be doing, so he sends you a wary look when you threw a snowball at him, hitting him in the chest. He had come outside onto the rooftop terrace to admire the scenic snow on the city with you, and you assault him? He is offended.
‘____, what are you doing? You’re going to get my suit wet an-’ You threw another one into his leg followed up with the sweetest, most innocent look you could muster. He sighed. He resigned himself to humouring you, since it would clearly make you happy and he was always one to indulge you.
You explained to him what he was supposed to do and he asked for a practice shot, which you were unwilling to give him.
Jumin’s aim was absolutely terrible and he mentions making a note to practice such things as this imperfection should be ironed out and- you threw another one at him. He smirked and gave you a look, before attempting to throw more of the snowballs he had delicately crafted at you and even managed to hit a few on your thighs and stomach.
Despite not particularly caring for such activities himself, he enjoyed seeing this playful side of you, even if it was a bit cheeky.
Jihyun Kim/V Snowball Fight Headcanons
The two of you would be out early in the morning so V could take pictures of the sunrise hitting the untouched snow, reflecting the beautiful colours of the scenery.
V also decided that he wanted some pictures of you in the same setting, with your long flowing dressing gown settled softly atop the snow. Of course, you indulged him.
After a few minutes of him taking your picture, you noticed he had smiled and was satisfied with his images for today. He turned to put his camera down on the table and take a sip of his coffee when something cold and wet exploded on the back of his head. It was a snowball.
It’s a little difficult for him to imagine himself in a snowball fight since he can’t see brilliantly and he feels like his aim will be off, but he’s more than willing to try since you wanted to play.
You run over to help him down the steps and into the large garden before you retreated back to your original position. You kept it fair though and stayed in his field of vision.
V wasn’t usually one to let off steam in such a way, so he seemed a little tense at first and didn’t throw the snowballs too hard in fear of accidentally hurting you. He missed more than he landed, so you were definitely winning the snowball fight.
He didn’t mind though, he was far more invested in the sight he saw before him: the adorning smile on your face, the red flush of your cheeks from the cold, snowflakes clinging to your hair and your dressing gown flowing against the breeze behind you as you ran. He could never capture such beauty if he tried.
Saeran Choi Snowball Fight Headcanons
Saeran doesn’t really enjoy the cold weather, it chills him straight to the bones so he either needs to wrap up in a bundle of layers otherwise he can’t stay out in it for very long.
However, the boy must go and buy his ice-cream from the convenience store since his ‘idiot brother’ ate the last of it without ordering more. You offered to go for him, since you were worried about him slipping and hurting himself, but he didn’t know which flavour he wanted, so you decided to accompany him instead.
The both of you were almost back at Seven’s when you got the idea to start a snowball fight, so you suddenly grabbed some snow and threw it at Saeran, hitting him in the shoulder.
He turned around and was both confused and annoyed, demanding to know why you hit him. You were also confused at his annoyance, but it quickly dawned on you that he didn’t know what a snowball fight was. He’d never had the chance to do it. He was never allowed out when he was a child and even if he had, he would have been too sickly to go out playing in the snow anyway.
You explained it to him and his expression softened when he realised it was a playful activity, and that he should try making up for the lost time. Saeran awkwardly knelt down, collected some snow and stiffly threw it back at you in the hip. He seemed nervous to make sure he was doing it correctly and looked at you for affirmation. You smiled and laughed, encouraging him to do it again as you collected more snow.
It was a very small, soft start for him.
Bonus: When the two of you got back to Seven’s house, his brother came to the door to plead Saeran’s forgiveness and asked if you got him any snacks from the shop, and was immediately met with a snowball to the face from Saeran.

BEOMGYU IMAGINE ࿐ ࿔:・゚*
contains: fluff, angst, happy ending, fem!reader
word count: 3.7k
summary: you’re forced into a marriage with beomgyu, the son of hades
Tumblr media
this wasn’t what he wanted. this wasn’t how he wanted it to happen. when beomgyu had told his father he liked you a lot and wish he could date you, this isn’t what he meant. but really, what else would you expect from a man who got his wife in the exact same ways. damn hades and his impulsive and irrational ways.
beomgyu paces around persephone’s garden, walking up and down the dark stone paths past pomegranate trees with orange blossoms, deep green bushes, poisonous shrubs and glowing mushrooms. like the cloudy mahogany sky above him, there is a gloom over his mind. groaning and tugging at his hair, beomgyu tries to figure out what to say to you.
“y/n, i’m so sorry. i swear i didn’t ask hades to do this. my dad… he’s… he’s a bit… he’s a bit…” beomgyu groans and flops onto the wide edge of a fountain that spews a blood-like liquid rather than water. “this is hopeless. y/n, i’m so so so so sorry.”
“it’s okay.”
beomgyu jumps at your sombre voice. his heart flutters. there you are, looking solemn yet as beautiful as ever. you’re dressed in your usual bright colours and there’s a flower behind your ear, but you don’t look like you usually do. you look dreary and tired and… honestly? half dead. and beomgyu would know. not only does he live in the underworld, where you currently are, for a quarter of the year, his demigod powers include sensing the life auras of other’s. yours is surrounded by a layer of death.
usually, you look like a beautiful spring flower in full bloom, but right now beomgyu thinks you look like a wilted flower, dying a slow death. your cheeks are hollow, your skin is losing its glow and colour, dark lines circle your eyes.
“y/n,” beomgyu says. he’s surprised to see you here. ever since his father dragged you down here you’d been locked in your room, avoiding everyone. “y/n, i’m so sorry.”
you shrug weakly. “i know this wasn’t your intention.”
“i’ve tried to persuade my dad to let you go but… he doesn’t like being told what to do. his temper is… extreme. but i’ll keep trying. i’m so sorry.”
shrugging again, you sit on a nearby marble bench, your shoulders hunching forward like your spine is struggling to hold you up.
beomgyu feels his heart break at how little energy you have. that’s the effect the underworld has on outsiders. it reacts much like an immune system when a foreign bacteria or disease enters the body. because the underworld is a place for the dead, it sucks the energy out of the living which it does not know, those not from it or tied to those from it.
beomgyu sinks back to his seat on the fountain. “have you eaten?”
“no.”
it might sound weird to others, but beomgyu’s glad you haven’t. eating from the underworld means you cannot leave.
“i doubt you’ve been sleeping well,” beomgyu then says.
as if having your literal life force drained from you and not being to eat wasn’t enough, the constant tortured screams echoing out from tartarus can be hard to block out at night.
you shake your head.
beomgyu watches as the flower behind your ear dislodges and floats to the ground, shrivelling to dust when it touches the ashy ground.
you see it too, an ironic smile forming. “this really is the land of the dead, isn’t it?” one strained laugh leaves your lips. “you know, the longer i’m here, the more i feel like i’m becoming like everyone else hear. dead.”
beomgyu’s breath hitches. he can’t stand this.
❀⊱┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄
the next night, beomgyu knocks on your bedroom door and calls your name, praying you’ll let him in. he had persuaded a hermes child he knows to deliver some ambrosia to the gates of hell. beomgyu hoped the food of the gods, known to heal and recover, would help you regain your energy.
beomgyu is surprised when you open the door, even if it’s only a crack.
“yes,” comes your tired voice through the small gap you’d opened.
“i have some ambrosia for you,” beomgyu says. “i doubt it’ll do much but hopefully you’ll feel a little better.”
you open the door fully for beomgyu and walk back to your bed. you hold in the sigh of relief when you sit down. you’re so drained and lacking in energy that just walking making you feel nauseous.
you observe beomgyu as he steps in and shuts the door behind him. even now, late in the evening, he wears a sleek black suit jacket and dress pants. he doesn’t wear a tie. his fingers are adorned with silver rings matching the silver chain you see peeking behind the colour of his button-down shirt. maybe if you weren’t so miserable you’d find him attractive. you always did at camp, particularly after he’d spar with his friends and push his jet black hair off his forehead.
“can i sit?” beomgyu asks, gesturing to the spot beside you.
you nod.
beomgyu perches on the edge of the bed next to you, leaving some space because as much as he likes you, he doubts you like him right now.
“there’s not a lot but…” beomgyu hands you the small paper box. there are nine cubes of golden ambrosia inside.
“thank you,” you say. your voice is weak and it hurts beomgyu to hear it.
“i’m sorry,” he says again.
“it’s okay,” you reply, popping a cube of ambrosia into your mouth. “there’s nothing we can do about it now.”
for what feels like the hundredth time, beomgyu’s heart breaks and he whispers, “i’m sorry.”
and for the first time since you arrived here four days ago, you look beomgyu in the eyes. you see for the first time that he’s hurting too. there’s a sadness in his eyes you’ve rarely seen before. the sadness one feels when someone they care for is hurt.
slowly, you lean your head against his shoulder. beomgyu flinches from shock but stays still. the two of you stay like this for a while until beomgyu helps you under the covers and you fall asleep, your last thought being that while you’d rather be a million other places than this, there are worse people to be forced to marry.
❀⊱┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄
the next day, beomgyu finds you in the garden. you look a little better. you’re admiring some black lily flowers and beomgyu is suddenly reminded of your parentage.
“i’m sure your mother is absolutely furious with my father right now,” beomgyu says, startling you a little. “he’s stolen two of her children now.”
“bold of you to assume she wasn’t already,” you say, eyes still on the lilies.
“right, yes.”
“demeter is a very bitter woman, you know,” you continue. you turn and slowly make your way to a nearby tree with low hanging branches. it’s a pomegranate tree.
beomgyu watches you silently. he’s happy you’ve recovered a little, though you aren’t nearly as joyful as you are above ground.
“do you see her often?” you ask suddenly, running a hand down the trunk of the tree. “persephone?”
“no,” beomgyu answers, making his way towards you and the tree. he walks with his hands behind his back. “we have… conflicting schedules, you could say. i leave for camp during the summer. when i return she is here but not for long as she leaves just before spring and is gone all season so that the harvests will be successful.”
you nod in understanding.
beomgyu stands just beyond the reach of the tree branches. “have you met her?”
“no. we are only half-sisters. plus she’s here mostly.”
“that is true.”
“is she nice?” you ask, a question that you have considered a number of times.
beomgyu kicks at the ground absentmindedly. “yes. she’s kind to me. though, i think my father’s temper has rubbed off on her after all this time. she can be surprisingly fierce.”
nodding to show you’re listening, you put both of your hands against the tree and focus your power into it.
“she treats me well. like a son, i suppose. she asks me about camp and my friends, she jokes that she only leaves during spring to make sure i get fed.” beomgyu smiles. “she’s really kind and polite and gentle and loving.“
beomgyu looks at you. your eyebrows are pulled together in concentration. he’s seen you use your powers like this at camp before. you can heal plants and prompt them to produce flowers or fruit. a fond smile tugs at his lips. "like you.”
your eyes open, landing immediately on beomgyu. his widen, shocked, realising his words. he turns away from you to hide his blush and clears his throat loudly. he wasn’t intending to make any a move of any sort of you, thinking it wrong to flirt with you when your marriage is forced.
but you find it amusing that the compliment just slipped out. and you appreciate it. you can see the tips of his ears burning red.
deciding to return to your room, you reach up to the pomegranate you had used your powers to produce and tug it from its branch of the tree. stepping up to beomgyu and tapping his shoulder, you place the red fruit in his hand and walk away.
❀⊱┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄
yours and beomgyu’s wedding is not for another week. in the days leading up, you spend a lot of time together, the ambrosia he brought slowly healing you more and more. you find yourself able to laugh again. perhaps you even find yourself growing to like beomgyu.
you knew him well enough at camp half blood but mainly through mutual friends. after a week of getting to know him more, you wonder why you weren’t closer before. though, the screams from tartarus at night remind you that the whole son of hades thing likely formed a negative bias against him in your mind.
but that bias dissipates over time. you see that he’s just a boy trying to enjoy life. he didn’t ask to be a demigod, and he certainly didn’t ask for his godly parent to be the king of the underworld. this detail almost completely slips your mind until three days until your wedding when you ask beomgyu what it’s like beyond the garden walls.
he’s reluctant to take you outside at first but eventually does.
“um, you should probably hold my hand,” he stutters. “it’s easy to get lost out here and there’s a lot of dangerous things.”
you glance at his hand. he’s wearing an odd piece of hand jewellery. thick rings around his fingers are connected to a matching bracelet at his wrist by thin chains. the black metal is a stark contrast to his pale skin.
your staring turns beomgyu’s ears pink and he’s quick to say, “y-you can just hold my jacket if you want.”
“no, no,” you say, taking his hand in yours. you’re not entirely surprised by how icy his hand is. “it’s okay."
honestly, you didn’t even realise you were staring at his hands so much.
you walk for about an hour around the dry land, the hazy red sky growing darker and darker the further from hades castle you are. you talk about many things. the topic of powers and abilities comes up.
"so what are your powers?” you ask beomgyu who is beginning to look antsy.
“if we stay out here any longer, you might find out,” he mumbles, his voice low.
“what do you mean?” you ask.
“we should turn back,” beomgyu tells you, his eyes narrowing as he glances around. “something’s not right. i can feel the dead nearby.”
“this is the underworld, beomgyu. everyone is dead.”
“yes, but they’re too close. something’s not right. let’s go.”
you frown but nod and let beomgyu pull you back in the direction of hades’ palace. you’re halfway there when a piercing screech sounds from above. a strong force suddenly knocks you into beomgyu and a sharp pain seers on your arm. a shocked exclaim jumps past your lips as you find three large gashes on your arm, blood pouring down.
“y/n,” beomgyu gasps, his arms catching you around your waist. he sees the blood too and his jaw clenches. he spots the cause of your injury just in time to pull you closer, out of its field of attack.
your heart rate doubles. “w-what-what-”
“a fury,” beomgyu growls, manoeuvring you behind his back.
holding your arm to stop the bleeding, you peek over his shoulder and see the ugly bat-winged monster circling back to your direction. it flies at full speed, baring its huge yellow fangs.
“stop!” beomgyu commands, his voice strong, deep and demanding.
to your surprise, the creature does, halting in mid-air, growling at beomgyu. it is now you recall just how powerful beomgyu must be. being a child of the big three (zeus, poseidon and hades) makes him indefinitely stronger and more powerful than the average demigod. even if hades wasn’t one of the big three, the kind of power he possesses is terrifying. the thought of beomgyu sharing some of those abilities…
beomgyu glares at the fury. “leave now before i banish you back to tartarus.”
the fury snarls.
“leave!” beomgyu yells, loud enough to make you flinch. he feels your movement and reaches back to grip your hand reassuringly.
with one last snarl, the fury flies away. beomgyu spins to you the moment it’s out of sight, his demeanour flipping as he cradles your arm in his hands.
“are you okay?” he asks quickly.
“not really,” you admit, shaking a little.
beomgyu inspects the large scratches and winces. “it’s too big for me to heal.”
he can heal? you think. it’s an odd concept considering he’s the son of death.
beomgyu stretches out his hand and makes an upward motion. a dark and opaque wall rises from the ground. he pulls you towards it. “let’s go.”
“wait, what is this?” you question.
he turns his head to you, the hint of a smirk on his lips. “shadow travel.”
❀⊱┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄
the night before your wedding, beomgyu knocks on your door to check on you as he didn’t see you today. he was visiting a friend because, while you are stuck here, beomgyu is free to come and go as he likes.
“how are you feeling?” beomgyu asks, sitting at the end of the bed. for once, he isn’t dressed up, instead donning a black plain tee and pair of sweatpants.
“i’m okay,” you tell him.
“that’s good.” he fiddles with the bed cover, avoiding your eyes. “i’m sorry.”
“it’s fine,” you say. “i can’t expect you to follow me around all day every day. you should see your friends too.”
“that’s not what i meant,” beomgyu says, his dark eyes taking on the sorrowful look he gets when he thinks you’re not looking. “although i’m sorry for that too now."
he takes a deep breath. "i meant that i was sorry for this. all of this. for my father dragging you down here. for our forced marriage. for making you unhappy, sick, lonely. i’m sorry for everything.”
“beomgyu… beomgyu look at me.”
he hesitantly meets your gaze and you see a tear sliding down his cheek.
“oh, beomgyu,” you sigh, leaning forward to wipe away the tear. “stop apologising.”
“but it’s true,” he says, his voice becoming rough and strained. “i know you don’t like it here. you don’t want to marry me. you’ve only been eating ambrosia for the past week but you still look half dead. you can’t even sleep at night. you-” his voice catches and he shakes his head, looking down.
you grab his hand and squeeze gently. “but it’ll get better once we’re married, right? i’ll have my energy back, i’ll be able to eat and sleep.”
“yes but that doesn’t change the fact that you don’t want this marriage,” beomgyu says. “i don’t want this marriage. i never asked for this, it was all my stupid father.”
“okay, you’re right,” you say. “i don’t want the marriage. but because i’m young, i’m unprepared, i have no say in it. i know you think i hate you but i don’t.”
beomgyu looks up again.
“i may hate the circumstances but i don’t hate you,” you say honestly. “at first, i did resent you, but i realised that this really isn’t your fault and that i shouldn’t hold your father’s actions against you.” you squeeze his hand again. “it’s not your fault. i don’t hate you. stop feeling sorry for me, okay? i’m fine, really.”
beomgyu nods. “okay.”
he’s silent, thinking, contemplating, processing.
you too have some thoughts on your mind. one thought actually. something that you’ve wanted to ask beomgyu the past few nights but never have, feeling too foolish. but seeing as you’ll be married to him tomorrow, you don’t see the harm in asking now.
“beomgyu,” you say quietly.
“yeah?”
“w-will you… will you please stay with me tonight?” you ask.
beomgyu’s ears flush bright red, the colour you’ve come to associate with his bashful and shy side.
“i think it’ll be easy to sleep if you do,” you continue. “will you?”
beomgyu needs a second to process your question but he eventually splutters, “yes.”
folding the blanket back for him, you shuffle over and lie down. beomgyu cautiously slides in beside you. he looks so stiff and awkward, it makes you smile a little.
“lie down,” you tell him and he does.
you take the initiative and cuddle up to him first, slotting yourself under his arm as you lay your head on his chest. immediately, you feel one hundred times better than you have all week. you feel safe and as though you can now breathe easy.
beomgyu finally relaxes, his arm looping around your shoulder, his hand slowly brushing over your hair.
the noises that usually keep you up at night fade away and sleep takes over. for the first time in almost two weeks, you have a good nights rest.
❀⊱┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄
when you wake in the morning, beomgyu is gone and a gorgeous women with long, flower adorned hair is carrying in a long black dress.
“you’re awake!” she says. “great. i’m persephone. i’ve heard you’re my half sister. it’s lovely to meet you. now let’s get you ready. you’re getting married today.”
you barely have time to process any of what the goddess has said before your being stuffed into the ebony gown. the silk body somehow fits you perfectly and the lace sleeves are the exact length of your arms.
the next half an hour is a blur as persephone styles your hair with a flower crown of red and white roses, clasps a chunky bejewelled choker around your neck and swipes red gloss on your lips and dark glitter on your eyes.
and suddenly you’re standing at the entrance of a large grecian temple with black marble pillars. beomgyu is standing at the other end of the temple on a raised platform. a… skeleton?… is standing near him, a large book in it’s bony hands. as you start walking towards beomgyu you vaguely wonder if you’re really about to be married by a skeleton.
to your right and left are rows of skeletons, odd creatures and the odd person who seems to be relatively alive. hades and persephone are in the front row.
the ceremony passes by in a flash. beomgyu holds your hands softly as the skeleton addresses the crowd of undead. he looks at you with more adoration than you knew was possible, but he never smiles. you slip gothic black rings onto each others fingers. he kisses your cheek. then the wedding is done.
afterwards, you and beomgyu take a walk in the garden again.
“how do you feel?” beomgyu asks you after a minute of silence.
“good,” you say, heading to a pomegranate tree.
“you look good,” beomgyu replies.
you smile over your shoulder at him. “thank you.”
“really,” he says. his eyes rake up your body. “not just the dress and everything, but your whole aura. you look alive again.”
you reach the tree and pick the closest fruit. “i suppose i’m allowed to eat this now, right?”
“if you’d like.”
“will you eat it with me?”
“okay.”
you find a bench to sit on. beomgyu picks a rock from the ground and, using a power you didn’t know he possessed, he transforms its shape to be sharp and pointed. he cuts the fruit with it and you eat in silence. you have to admit that it feels nice to be eating something other than ambrosia.
once the fruit is gone, you scoot a little closer to beomgyu and put your hand on his knee.
“you don’t seem happy, beomgyu,” you say. “what’s wrong?”
he sighs. “i don’t know. it’s just… i like you a lot. even more now then i did when i told my father about you. but i… i can’t be happy when you’re not.”
“who says i’m not happy.”
“well aren’t you?”
“i’m… unsure… i think i need some more time to fully process everything, but it could be worse.”
beomgyu scoffs quietly. “how could it be worse?”
“i might not be married to you.”
beomgyu almost flinches at your words, eyes going wide. “what?”
“like i said, i’m still a little conflicted but one thing that i’m certain about is my feelings for you.”
“and?”
you smile. “i like you.”
“r-really?"
"really. throughout this all, you’ve been so kind and gentle. you haven’t pressured me and you’ve made me feel as comfortable as possible. i really appreciate it and i can’t say that i haven’t grown to like you.”
amusingly, your words render beomgyu speechless so you add, “plus, being married to the son of hades is a bit of an ego boost, if i’m being honest.”
said son of hades smiles.
“you know, i’m pretty sure you didn’t kiss me properly earlier.”
“i didn’t think you’d want me to,” beomgyu admits sheepishly.
“well, i do, so…”
his smile turns to a cheeky grin as he cups your face in his hands. “may i kiss the bride?”
you grin too. “you may.”

Amphibia Oneshot Thing(I Never Claimed To Be Good At Titles)
I had an idea for a fun little story thing while I was at work over the weekend, and decided to take the time to write it up into this. In all honesty this is ridiculously self indulgent, and I wrote it late at night with no editing, beta reading, or even just looking back over it once I finished. Essentially I wrote this entirely for myself and just threw it on here in the hopes maybe a few other people might enjoy it like I do. That’s all I gotta say up front so just, here you go. (this is a long one so most of the story will be under a cut).
Anne found herself wandering around a lot of parks these days. After all her time inAmphibia sitting around in her house only made her anxious, and the city was just dull. So she would sit in the areas with the most foliage, where it always felt the most comfortable. Like one of her old adventures could come find her any second. Like she could pretend her friends were just around the corner and surely if she waited just one more second Marcy would come tumbling out of those bushes, launching right away into a rambling speech about a new plant she'd found, the perfect mix of adorable passion and somewhat interesting information that would always make Anne smile.
She knew that wasn't going to happen. She'd known and tried to force herself to get used to the idea, but even as her miserable daydream was interrupted by the rustling of the very bushes she'd imagined, she hoped for a second maybe she'd imagined it all. She hadn't of course, and the boy who pushed his way out of the bushes was anything but her Marcy. Even so, he must have noticed her solemn expression, because he immediately walked over to where she sat with a look of concern on his face.
"Hey, are you okay?"
Anne was surprised by the question for a moment, then again, she realized, she probably did look pretty miserable, moping around in the dirt in a random park. She was tempted to give an offhanded reply of dismissal, she was fine and his concern was almost certainly just a polite formality. But she was never good at following through with all that smile and say Im fine stuff.
"I've been better," she sighed.
The boy in front of her frowned, and took a seat beside her.
"Do you want to talk about it?"
Anne blinked in surprise, not expecting that reaction. She took a second glance at the kid, wondering what his deal was. He looked a few years younger than her, probably about Sprig's age, dressed for wandering around the woods. He looked like a kid who liked an adventure, maybe that's why Anne felt like she might be able to talk to him. She couldn't say everything of course, god knows she'd need a full time therapist for all her turmoil, but maybe she could simplify it a little bit, dance around the truth slightly. Besides, the more she thought about it the more the idea of talking to a regular kid sounded nice.
"Well," she began, searching for each word and phrase carefully, "a while ago, me and my friends found this weird place. It was scary at first, and I was nervous for a bit, but after a while I grew to love it a lot. I think- I know my friends felt the same. It was a really magical place, but it, uh, well its not around anymore. And I feel like I left a part of myself with it." Anne suddenly became overwhelmingly aware that she had just poured her heart out to a random stranger, and probably sounded insane on top of it, "Ugggh I sound stupid, nevermind kid just ignore me, thanks for trying though."
She started to get up and walk away but the boy jumped up at the same time.
"Wait, hold on. I'm not sure exactly what's going on, but from the sound of it, I think I kind of get it. I've got a pretty magical place of my own, I can't imagine loosing it. I know it's not the same but, I could take you there, if that would help?"
Anne turned back to look, not sure why this kid was so eager to help, until she saw the look on his face. He just looked like a kid who wanted to help, just for the sake of being nice. In that moment he reminded her of Sprig again, and she couldn't help it, she laughed.
"Seriously? You don't even know me. You sure?"
The boy shrugged and smiled. "There's lots of cool people I don't know yet. And you seem nice. So," he reached out his hand, "my name's Craig, nice to meet you."
As weird as this was, Anne had seen weirder, so sure, why not. She took the boy's hand.
"Call me Anne."
---
As they walked Anne started to wonder where this weird kid was taking her. Sure “magical place” in her situation was fairly literal, but she didn’t think she was exactly in the most common position for a kid. Or really for anyone for that matter. Still, the boy seemed pretty excited about it, so she figured she’d give it a shot. Better than moping around in some random bushes all day. Who knows, maybe she could even get her hopes up a little bit there would at least be something cool out there.
‘Something cool’ turned out to be a tree stump. Anne wasn’t sure if the kid was serious or not when they first got to the clearing, but based on the way he jumped up on the tree base and spread his arms wide.
“Welcome to the stump!”
Anne stared at him for a few seconds, not sure how to respond. Before bursting into laughter. She just couldn’t help it. There had been so much buildup, all for, apparently a regular tree stump. Craig crossed his arms and spoke up.
“Hey, I know it doesn’t look like much, but you haven’t seen anything yet, watch this!”
Whatever he was about to do, though, was cut off by a battle cry and a flash of orange hair flying at Anne from the trees. It was pure instinct, really, when Anne dove behind cover of the stump screaming,
“It’s an ambush!”
She realized her mistake a few short seconds later. Ivy Sundew literally could not be here. So, with no small amount of hesitation, she peeked over the edge of the stump to see a small girl pointing a homemade sword at her while trying to cover up a pouting expression. Anne could vaguely make out the girl muttering under her breath about how “noble warriors don’t ‘ambush.’“
“So, uh, are you gonna put the sword down orrr...”
Anne trailed off as the girl gave her a weary glance and muttered something about ‘intruders.’ It was at this point that Craig, who seemed to have tripped and fallen off the stump in the chaos, also poked his head back up and called out,
“Kelsey, wait! She’s with me!”
The short girl’s demeanor changed immediately.
“Oh, cool! Hi Craig, hi new girl, sorry I attacked you, I thought you were a devilish intruder.”
“Don’t worry about it, I get randomly attacked a lot, it happens.”
The girl, Kelsey, apparently, looked over Anne again, a thoughtful expression on her face.
“You do? Do you need a heroic guardian to protect you?”
Well, Anne noted, maybe this girl wasn’t so similar to Ivy after all. Though she still got the feeling the two of them would get along exceptionally well. She gave Kelsey a grateful smile, but shrugged off the offer.
“Nah, I’m good.”
Kelsey nodded, seeming to finally relax, though she did pause for a moment and stare off into the distance, though to Anne it seemed more like she was probably just gazing into the depths of a random tree. She gave Craig a curious look, but he only waved it off, apparently this was just how things worked with Kelsey. Noted. When she came back down to earth Craig was waiting with a question,
“Where’s J.P.?”
“Oh he found a butterfly and then chased it into a mud puddle. It was close though so I went on ahead.” Her tone of voice suddenly changed into a much more dramatic one. “He and I both had our own battles to fight.” Before immediately going back to her normal one. “But he should be right behind me.”
Sure enough it was at  that moment another boy crawled out from the foliage outlining the clearing. This one already in a considerably messier state than either of the kids Anne had met so far. He wandered over to the stump, repeating the tale Kelsey had just told them, this time with a much higher focus on the mud puddle. He didn’t seem to notice Anne at all until she cleared her throat and waved hello. The boy, J.P. she assumed, immediately jumped with an exclamation of surprise.
“Relax J.P. she’s cool.”
Anne was a little pleased to notice this reassurance came from Kelsey this time, and didn’t miss the way Craig nodded in agreement.
“She was off by herself so I thought we could give her a tour of the creek.”
That last bit caught Anne off guard, just a bit. Up till this point she had just been assuming Craig had took her here to see the stump and his friends. She wasn’t sure how much more exciting one creek could be, but after all her time in Amphibia she wasn’t one for making too many assumptions about that kind of thing. Turning her focus back to J.P. she noticed how he looked her up and down with squinted eyes, before seeming to focus on the leaves and sticks that had (again?! seriously?!) gotten tangled in her hair, and nodding sagely.
“Good call Craig! I like her style.”
As J.P. immediately began to inspect the ground for his own leaf, which he immediately deposited snugly in his, much shorter, hair, Craig waved Anne over to the stump, where he’d rolled out a large piece of paper.
“This,” he announced proudly, “is my map of the creek!”
Anne wasn’t sure what she was expecting, but a fully detailed expansive rendition of what must have been a really large area of land, complete with notations of inhabitants, activities, landmarks, and literally anything else one could find to write down, had not been it. She gave a low whistle of appreciation. Man Marcy would’ve loved this.
Craig beamed at her show of awe, allowing himself a pleased, “drew the whole thing myself” before asking, “So, where do you wanna see first?”
---
After that, Anne was pulled around the creek to all sorts of locations, each one more intricate than the last. There was an entire colony of kids in these woods, a civilization even. Even on Amphibia she had never seen anything quite like it. It was wild, and, kinda cool? The more she saw the more she started to get what Craig meant. The whole place had its own feeling to it that didn’t quite mesh with any of the surrounding area. After a while, she was even able to push (most of) the weight that had been on her shoulders for so long to the back of her mind.
Which wasn’t to say that her time in Amphibia left her completely. In all likelihood it was more inclined to have already made her a primary target for whispers and gossip to all the kids there. Though she never would’ve expected it before she’d gotten flown away from earth so long ago, she was kinda an expert at being in the woods now. Though she did slip up once or twice. For one dangerous moment there she was mortified that everyone would think she was insane when, upon being shown to the trading tree she had casually remarked,
“I don’t see why you need a whole place to trade for snacks when there are so many perfectly good bugs to eat out here.”
In her defense, she also preferred a good bag of chips over tiny dirt critters, but what could she say, she’d gotten used to a lot of weird things. While her immediate first reaction upon the words escaping her mouth had been to play it off as a lame joke(especially considering the way all the kids stared at her, some in horror, some in awe, at least one clearly wondering to themselves why they didn’t think of that first, the clearing totally silent save one kid who apparently didn’t get the memo and loudly exclaimed something Anne thought sounded like “my candy!”) her backup plan ended up being totally unnecessary as J.P. just started laughing, confidently proclaiming,
“I told y’all, she fits right in here”
And sure, maybe that made Anne smile just a little bit.
After that they had a few more people to meet, including a few girls prancing around a big open field, one of whom blushed slightly as she informed J.P. that she liked his leaf, to which J.P. gave a cheerful giggle and a thanks. (Anne considered it one of her foremost signs of character development that she didn’t break out any magazines as soon as they got back to the stump). But eventually things started to wind down, and the trio of friends, along with their new straggler, made it back to the little home base.
Anne took a few minutes to discuss the finer points of exploring woods with Craig, who had been eager to talk about it since they’d gone out earlier, while out of the corner of her eye Anne watched Kelsey do mock battle with an imagined enemy.
“You know, my little brother is much better at this stuff than I am, maybe you’d like to meet him sometime?” Though she’d posed the question to Craig, she didn’t bother to wait for an answer, as she saw Kelsey perform another made up sword move, and something occurred to her. “Hold that thought.”
Walking over to Kelsey, Anne continued to watch her form, confident enough based on where she was swinging and where her eyes were trained on that she had a pretty good idea of what the fake enemy the other girl was fighting might look like. Eventually she offered,
“You’re pretty good, but if you’re fighting something that much bigger than you, you’re gonna want to switch up your strategy a little bit.”
Without waiting for Kelsey’s reaction Anne grabbed a stick off the ground and performed a demonstration of a few moves she’d picked up in Amphibia. Though sword fighting was never something she had expected to be proficient at, she couldn’t deny that at this point she’d picked up a decent amount of skill. Once she’d finished her quick combo demonstration she turned to where Kelsey was standing, a little surprised to see a look of pure awe on the younger girl’s face, before she shouted,
“YOU KNOW HOW TO USE A REAL SWORD??????”
Anne grinned sheepishly at her excitement. “Uhhh, yeah, a little bit I guess?”
She’d barely gotten the words out before Kesley was on her, begging her to show more moves or better yet, spar with her. Anne waited for the tirade of excitement to slow down before smiling and offering,
“Sure I guess I could, but honestly my little sis knows way more about this fighting stuff than I do. If you want someone to practice with she’s your best bet. I could bring her out here some time, if you’d like.”
Kelsey’s excited nodding was interrupted by an instrument Anne couldn’t quite place, and suddenly the smaller girl’s shoulders fell in disappointment, before immediately perking back up again.
“That’s dinner, but you can bring her tomorrow! I’ll see you then!”
She waved goodbye as she rushed off, as did J.P. though with considerably less rushing, leaving just Anne and Craig, who seemed to also be on his way out. Anne figured that was just one more of the natural ways of the creek. As he left, though, Craig paused for a moment.
“I’m not sure where your special place was, but this is a pretty good one for a lot of kids here. I hope you had fun, I know we did. See you around Anne?”
Anne could tell the last bit was phrased as a question, and she paused to think, if only for a moment. Sure this was no Amphibia, and sure a lot of the stuff that had happened since Craig had tumbled out of those bushes was pretty weird. And maybe she did feel a little guilty that she was off playing around while her friends in Amphibia were, well... But still, for the first time since her birthday, Anne had gone one day where she actually felt like the 13 year old kid she was. Sooner or later she could blow their minds with magic powers and frog siblings, but for now, she was just Anne, she was just a kid. She gave a grateful smile.
“See you around, Craig of the Creek.”

Please Hate Me //part 47
Fandom: Marvel
Summary: Based on: “Imagine having a love/hate relationship with Loki.” by @thefandomimagine Who would have thought that babysitting a god could be so much fun?
Genre: slow-burn, enemies to lovers, banter
Tumblr media
There are few things better suited to following a great summoning ritual than stalking a kindergartener and, quite literally, taking the candy out of his chubby little hand.
"Hey, that's mine!" the brat, Timmy, screamed, but had to watch Loki unwrap the popsicle and munch on it.
"Oh, Timmy," you sighed. "I thought a tough kid like you would handle this better."
"Who the hell even are you weirdos?" Timmy considered ending his question with a kick to the shins of one of you, but decided otherwise under the unnerving gaze of the strange man in a green suit. There was something off about him, that much was certain, but little Timmy couldn't wrap his mind around how otherworldly he actually felt.
He looked around, but none of his friends were around yet, and neither were any adults.
You smiled your beautiful, wicked smile. "Don't fret, Timmy. We've heard all about your deeds, and boy, did we actually love them."
Timmy frowned. His chubby cheeks puffed up just in case it was time to scream. You didn't look like parents of whatever kid he might've recently offended. The pocket money he was getting ;ately from his schoolmates was nothing to worry about. A few bucks here and there weren't a reason for such a direct approach. Okay, those glitter pens he took from that girl last week might cause some bigger stirrup, but she certainly had a different set of parents last time he saw her.
"The hell are you talking about?" the boy settled on a safe approach.
Loki chuckled and leaned down to look him in the eyes. The features of his face started to blur. Timmy frowned, but blinking didn't clear it up. The harder he looked, the more they melted, and molded, and reformed-
"We know what you've been doing, child," the creature's horns grew and curled, just as more and more sets of eyes popped open. "We have our eyes on you."
The shadows deepened, and the world turned colder and eerily quiet. It was the absolute stillness of something deeply unnatural moving right past you.
But Timmy, despite what his teachers might say, was a smart kid. Being a bully and a petty little thief for years without facing actual repercussions of his actions could not be achieved if one didn't know when was the time to run. Timmy knew that time had come and didn't wait for things to unravel any further. His short legs took him surprisingly far in just a few seconds. Loki and you could only watch him go.
"Do you think it'll be enough?" you asked, taking the lollipop from Loki. It was the strawberry flavor. "I certainly wouldn't want to fail our first commission."
"I guess we'll see," Loki shrugged off the spell. "But I'm pretty sure we gave him something to think about. I can send one of the shadows after him to make sure he doesn't pick on our 'client' at school tomorrow. It'll be awhile before they disperse after summoning, so we can make use of them."
"Will they still lead us to the stolen pin though?"
"Without any problem."
And that closed the case. It was a little satisfying, Loki had to admit.
He was still unsure about the pin, though. There was something off about the type of magic he sensed in the box. Faint as it was, the tang of death and rot was still unmistakable and didn't fit in the mental image of SHIELD's safehouse it was supposed to be stored in. It made the chase after the truth more thrilling.
Loki fixed his suit. It was not the type of fashion he usually preferred, but the way you looked at him in it made it worth it. There was nothing as confidence-boosting as being aware that you’re the eye candy for anyone lucky enough to pass.
"Shall we?" Loki offered you his elbow as the shadows gathered and formed a rough doorway. Beyond it, only darkness swelled.
Stepping through it was a fight against condensed mist, but at least it had none of the flesh-shredding quality of Bifrost.
The shadows Loki had called followed the invisible trail of magic the pin left behind after it was stolen. There was little chance of them being wrong or simply misled, Loki had assured you earlier. As beings stuck in a state of half-existence, there was not in the physical realm so often that it could affect their judgement and cover the tracks. Still, even Loki had a moment of doubt when he took in the place the two of you had been led to.
"I think we should've used that chicken," you said, looking around what was unmistakably a forest. A thick, dark, and very old forest. Definitely the type of forest unwelcome to unannounced travelers.
It did not mean you were scared. You were just aware of a certain, thick atmosphere hanging low in the cold, winter air. Somehow, it was darker than it should've been at that hour. The trees loomed over you, their branches twisted and hanging low enough to strangle.
Loki kept on patting your arm while your terror grew, and despite ignoring him for a while, you finally decided to turn.
A thick wall of a hedge, painted in a rotting green and sprinkled with half-melted snow, stood tall and guarded whatever was behind it. The branches were woven too tightly together to take even a peek between them.
"Is that a house? In the middle of a forest?" You asked, but no answer came. There was no road leading to the house. The trees encircled the hedge, but didn't interrupt its space, as if that particular spot had been chopped out of the forest. As if the usual rules of logic and nature didn't apply there.
"Strange," Loki muttered to himself as he walked closer. The hedge ran far in both directions, and from the point you approached it, no gateway could be seen. High above your heads, thin swirls of smoke rose into the air.
"We should walk around and see how to get in." You gestured to the left.
Loki looked up. The hedge loomed a few heads above him. Even if Loki jumped, he wouldn't see above it. He jumped anyway.
And was swallowed by the hedge.
You knew there was something wrong with that forest, and the strange house especially, even before the branches shot out and wrapped around Loki. He only managed a yelp of surprise before he was pulled in towards the impenetrable depth of the bushes. As much as it was reassuring to know that your senses and intuition were as sharp as ever, the time to brag would come later. Using the ace up your sleeve, or rather sword in your pocket, you made quick work of all the choppable branches.
Loki dropped to the ground.
"You could've cut off my hand!" He looked in horror at the cleanly cut piece of his sleeve. It had been a close call indeed.
"Couldn't you regrow it?"
Loki stopped shaking off the twigs for a moment. "I'd prefer not to find out, honestly."
The hedge, despite your trimming, was as impenetrable as before. The only thing that changed was the distance you kept away from it. After not a long discussion, you decided to look for a way in.
The little gate looked suspiciously ordinary. The metal rusted in a few spots, mercilessly beaten by years of rain and humidity. The path beyond it winded between neat rows of herbs and vegetables and occasionally flowers you couldn't name. The scent of fresh soil hung in the air as you walked through them. The house itself was neither big or new, but was most definitely haunted. There was no doubt about it. It was obvious in the way the windows watched you approach. In the way the smoke curled lazily through a draft you couldn't feel. In the doorknob in a shape of a hissing bat.
"Do we… knock?" you whispered. For reasons you couldn't explain, you had a feeling the house was listening to every word.
"That's usually how it goes," Loki's reply was equally quiet. He made no move to knock, though.
A hollow hooting was the only warning before a dark shape swooped by your heads and landed over the door. The owl was big, even once it settled and closed the wings. The feathers, in various shades of grey and muddy brown, hid it almost perfectly against the wooden planks of the house.
It was a nice owl, one might think without looking closely. Because under further scrutiny, one would notice the deep gash only partially hidden by the puffed up feathers, and the bones peeking out underneath them.
You stared at the dead owl and it stared back.
It hooted.
"I know, I said I'm coming!" the voice from inside the house shouted. The footsteps neared. Loki and you braced against whatever you'd have to face.
The door creaked open.
Many thoughts had passed through your mind, but one thing you didn't expect to see was a spotty-faced, alarmingly skinny young man in jeans and a cloud of smoke surrounding him. You got a facefull of an aroma that reminded you of college dorms. You wondered if Loki thought he’d met the wrong end of a skunk.
"Listen," he said, gesticulating wildly. "I know that y'all always want shit, but my grandma is still on her vacation, and I'm currently busy. She'll surely contact you once she's done, but nothing has changed since last time, and I still don't know when she'll be back."
The owl descended majestically and sat on his still raised hand. The man blinked in mild confusion.
"I fed you already, don't give me that look, Barbara."
Loki looked at you. You looked at Loki. The owl turned her head backward and noticed both.
"I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is the first time we're meeting," Loki forced himself to say after your not-so-subtle nudge to his ribs. "Could we bother you for just a moment?"
"I'm busy, I've got a shift tomorrow and—"
Loki barged in anyway, not interested much in whatever the man had to say.
The little house turned out to be more of a cottage. Even though some work had been done to restore it and make use of modern inventions, the very core of the cottage stayed the same as it possibly had been for decades, if not longer.
The herbs hanging from the ceiling to dry filled the air with a pleasant, if a little heavy smell that clung to skin and clothes alike. The huge chimney was full of wooden planks and blasting enough heat from the other end of the large working space to make you regret wearing winter clothing. Whatever was boiling in the huge iron pot hanging over the blazing fire was unlikely to be edible judging by the consistency and color. Or at least you hoped it was not supposed to be edible.
The owl flew in and perched on a chair.
"Listen, I'd really appreciate it if you could leave me alone," the man groaned, following you.
He took another drag and exhaled a cloud of smoke, eyes red-rimmed. The owl hissed and moved over the chimney, where she sat with as close to an angry expression as a half-dead owl was capable of.
To your left, a rather familiar and highly surprising uniform laid along with medical equipment.
"We'll leave as soon as we get the answers we need," you promised. "And our first question is - who the hell are you, exactly?"
The man blinked. "Are you joking? I thought you were clients."
"What would you sell if we were?"
"I mean," he gestured around. "It's my grandma who deals with potions, but I suppose I could give you a medical check up if you need one? And don't worry if you're dying, that's even better, I've got that covered too. Just make sure to come to me before the decay starts, and I'll put you back on your feet in no time."
"Wait, I'm confused," Loki frowned. "Are you a doctor or a necromancer?"
"My dude, I have no idea where you've been the past few decades, but if you think med staff is capable of making a living from just one job, you honestly should get a reality check. Look around - I literally still live with my grandma and don't even get me started on how much debt I still have to pay off with those stupid side jobs."
"You mean, resurrecting pets?" You looked at the owl. Barbara was not blinking.
"Listen, I'm at the point of my life where I don't ask questions. I just need the money. I want to move out. Have you any idea what it is like to live with your 260 year old grandma who has a better social life than you?"
The silence was a little awkward.
"Precisely."
Loki wanted to take a deep, steadying breath, but whatever the young man had been smoking didn't sit well with Loki's lungs.
"I must ask though, are you raising the dead because you're such a terrible doctor, or is—"
"Paperwork."
Loki blinked. "Excuse me?"
"Have you any idea how much paperwork follows every death? I'd rather bite off my hand than do any more extra unpaid time than I absolutely have to." The man sat at the table and produced a stash of pot from somewhere. With slow, precise movements he started to roll another blunt. You bent your knees to see under the table, but couldn't find any hidden drawers.
Loki nodded at the man’s comment, although he was nowhere near possessing that kind of knowledge. Deaths that he usually participated in involved little to no paperwork.
"Was this involved in one of your recent side-jobs?" Loki put the little wooden box on the table.
The man shook it before opening. Only after sniffing it did the look on his face change to recognition. "Yeah, I think it was. I was paid to get a pin from it. I don't know what happened to it afterward, though. The client just paid and disappeared."
"How did you get it?"
"Mice."
"What?" Loki asked. You looked around, just in case.
"No one cares about mice, especially in huge warehouses. That makes them perfect for the job, especially if they're controlled properly."
The dead owl hooted in agreement. Loki had an idea how the mice had been initially caught.
"That complicates our case," he whispered to you.
"Who paid you?" you asked, hoping that the answer wouldn't be...
"I don't know," the young man shrugged. "Some guy in a trenchcoat and lots of shiny money. My favorite kind of a client."
The man suddenly had a few golden coins out and in his hand. You hadn’t even seen his hands go under the table that time. The coins were heavy and most definitely not fake, although you didn't recognize any of the symbols they bore.
Loki did.
"Do you think that agent of yours will cover any extraterrestrial expenses?" he asked, watching the reflexes shine on the golden surface.
"Where are we going?"
"To the biggest black-market-turned-casino-turned-complete-mess of a planet in the universe."
"How lovely," you said.
Barbara agreed, hooting happily as she hopped off the chimney and landed on Loki's shoulder.
"Take her." The young necromancer yawned sleepily. "She hates me anyway. Just remember not to give her any pickles. She's got terrible gas."

Sam and I’s relationship was odd. It was a friend with benefits type of relationship, but at the same time it wasn’t. It was a relationship where on valentine's day he got me my favorite flowers, and set up a romantic gesture. On Christmas he bought me jewelry, and on thanksgiving when he got up and said what he was thankful for, and he said me.
It was sitting at a stop light and having a green light come up, but two seconds later it was a yellow light then red again. Sam never gave me enough time to process everything going on, so when valentines rolled around this year again Sam bought me flowers and set up his bedroom into a movie theater like space.
We were only supposed to be Friends with benefits, he wasn’t supposed to fall in love. I wasn’t supposed to feel confused; I wasn’t supposed to fall in love with him either. I had kept a lot of what was going on to myself, but Dean wasn’t blind. He had told me how he’d see the spark in Sam’s eyes when he looked at me, but Dean also knew what our relationship was really based on.
Before spending the rest of the day was Sam. I got up early and hung out with Dean, it was normal things that we were talking about. That was until Sam came in and interrupted out conversation. I could see the jealousy that wrapped his soft features. “What are you two doing out here?” Sam asked rising his eyebrows and folding his arms together. Dean looked over at me and then back at him “We were talking. Why? Does that bother you Samuel?”
Dean asked before going back to work on the impala. “No, it doesn’t bother me Dean. And it’s Sam jackass not Samuel.” He said before slamming the door. I looked over at Dean, and he shrugged his shoulder a sympathetic look falling onto his face.
“What is going on Dean?” I asked him swinging my legs off the table I was sitting on. “You can’ see it can you?” Dean said looking up from the engine of the impala. “What can’t I see?” I asked intrigued into what he was going to tell me next.
“Hon, Sam is a soft creature. But he falls hard and quick. He’s jealous of our relationship because he hasn’t said he likes you and he’s probably afraid that I’m going to steal you. Which no offense I wouldn't do.”
I looked at him for what seemed like an eon. “What!” A confused look grabbing my features. “Oh, shit that makes more sense now. Th... the Valentines, the Christmas gifts, the thanksgiving things. He was trying to say it but he didn’t know how.” Dean looked at me a smirk written on his lips. “You’re such a smart cookie Y/n.” I rolled my eyes before jumping off the table and saying “Jackass” as I walked back into the bunker.
As I walked past Sam's room, I could hear the TV on a low volume. I peeked my head in and saw him, his hands resting behind his head, his feet crossed at the end of his bed. “Whatch’a you watching, Sam?” I asked staying in the doorway. “Nothing, you get bored sitting out with my brother.” He said not looking over at me.
“I don’t even know how to respond to that question, Sam.” I said a hurt expression falling over my face. Still Sam laid still. “Sam... I’m... Just be straight with me. I don’t like playing games.” I said starting to get anger that I was being ignored and treated like shit when I hadn’t done anything wrong.
“You don’t like playing games, that rich coming from you. You want me to be straight with you, then fine. You can’t let me fuck you and then go have a great relationship with my fucking brother.”
One it was odd to hear him curse, that was more Dean’s thing. Two how dare him tell me who I can fuck and who I can have a relationship with. “Really Sam. Who do you think you are? To tell me who I can fuck and what I do with other people. If you like me, then just fucking say it. At least be a man about it, don’t beat around the bush.”
“You need to make up your mind Y/n. Either you and I get together and become more then friends with benefits, or you can leave the bunker.” He said before once again his attention was wrapped around the TV.
“Fuck you Sam.” I said slamming his bedroom door. After everything we had been through, everything we’d told each other. And for him to act like a dick, like it was my fault that he didn’t tell me that he liked me.
Instead of walking to my room, I went to find Dean. I needed to talk to someone, at least someone that wasn’t Sam at the moment. As I walked into the garage and slammed the door behind me Dean hit his head on the hood of the impala. “What’s going on Y/n?” He said rubbing the bump that was forming.
“Your fucking brother, he’s being a douche bag. Telling me that if I don’t make up my mind and get together with him, I have to leave the bunker. All I asked him was what he watching, and he was automatically a dick about us talking. If he thinks I want to be together with him now after he sat there and treated me like I... like I was a whore fuck that. Fuck that Dean.” I said pasing back and forth, my anger starting to boil down and tears rolling down my cheeks instead.
This wasn’t about a relationship anymore this was about how I felt, how I fallen in love with a huge puppy and now he was just being a dick. Dean came over and hugged me tightly, my hot tears staining Dean’s already dirty shirt. We sat there for how long I don’t know. Dean had just let me cry it all out, some much pent-up frustration, confusion, and hurt.
“Y/n, let’s go inside it’s late. I have an idea just sleep now sweetheart.” I really didn’t do anything, just shook my head and then Dean pick me up I wrapped my legs around waist and we walked out of the garage. I could slightly hear some movement in the library as we walked into it. “Sweetheart, I’m going to put you on the couch now okay.” And then his body heat was gone, and I shivered against the couch.
I honestly wasn’t tried. You know that state where you are awake, but your eyes are closed. The old joke that dads always say “I’m just resting my eyes.” So, what I'm saying is that I was awake and was listening to everything that was being said.
I heard Dean’s footsteps stop and that I heard Sam say “What the hell was that for?” I can only assume that Dean had smacked his brother in the back of the head. “That’ for not knowing how to express yourself. You know I always thought I'd be the one to push someone out of here, but not you. You can’t force Y/n to leave just because you aren’t happy with the choice she makes.”
I continued listening, keeping my breathing steady. Since I couldn’t see Sam’s face all I could do was imagine it, the way he’d look at Dean with a confused look, and realization, and then regret of what he’d said to me.
“Look Sam, I’m not trying to steal her from you. Now that clear you were mean and nasty. You’ve never been that way with anyone especially Y/n” Dean said I could feel both their eye gracing over me. “I know that you like her, she knows it. Explain to me why she ran to me and cried her eyes out. She thinks you think of her as a whore.” Dean said, with a huff probably sitting down.
“Dean... I like her. That’s true, but she won’t come back to me now, not after what I said. I was hurtful and cruel. I don’t want her to leave, fuck I don’t want Y/n to leave at all. Maybe I could talk to her tomorrow.” Sam said probably running his hand through his hair, a fidget that Sam had.
“Yeah, maybe Sam, Maybe. Now go over there and take her to her bedroom. Let her know that you care.” Dean said before walking back out to the garage.

”You did what?!” I feel dizzy due to the sudden movement of my body jerking up in a sitting position, crisscrossing my legs under me as my hand holds up the phone to my right ear a little bit more pressingly after hearing the breaking news. That she tells me with a singing tone sounding so excited but I can’t seem to share her sentiments as the bewilderment decorating my voice is in sharp contrast with the silence that settled on the cosy apartment like a thick feather-filled duvet. Nibbling on my thin lips I locate the single gingerbread scented candle on my desk still illuminating the interior of my messy bedroom the flames licking up the walls and disappearing near the ceiling, creating pretty shapes and lights over the dull paint, it helps me regain my composure before I realise that mom is not yet finished talking.
”Well he needed a place to stay and busses won’t go out because of the upcoming storm his apartment is in Daegu and I’m sure he’ll be tired from the flight.” Flicking on the lights I take in the sight, clothes piled up on the chair’s armrest whilst dirty plates littering every usable surface, fuck, if my room looks like a pigsty I don’t want to imagine how the other rooms are looking right now.
I was so immersed in doing great on my finals that I don’t think I cleaned the space up for a while.
I should start doing my laundry so I have something to wear as I already look to be out of clean t-shirts inspecting the pile of unwashed jeans and other garments, momentarily embarrassed to see I’m also out of room to place new dirty clothes on top of all these.
”What are you implying mother?” Pursing my lips, I honestly start to lose her train of thoughts as her rant goes on and my eyes wander over the state my apartment is in after stressful weeks but knowing her ways she’ll start with building on my conscience until she realises that I’m no longer an unsuspecting five-year-old girl and she’ll pull out the big guns and dust off her bribing skills.
Whatever her plan is, she always makes me go accordingly no matter how much I try to resist or protest and I feel a knot form in my throat at that. If this is about my non-existent dating life again that she called me to discuss in the dread of the night, I swear I’m gonna flip a table or something.
”You remember Sunha’s eldest son?” Answering back with a question as she often likes to do, doesn’t throw me off balance as it used to.
I’m long ago accustomed to getting her ways to twist the conversation to her favour so I’m ready to fire back my reply in the same form matching her up. ”How is your best friend’s son has to do with any of this?” Utterly confused by the mention, that must lace my tone since she lets a lightsome laugh bubble up in her chest I can picture her dimples are showing in full display because of it.
”Did you even pay attention to a word I said?” She sounds more amused than accusing, letting me know that she actually doesn’t mind how my head gets airy sometimes, her playfulness earns a groan from my side of the line, it’s getting pretty late and I have not enough brain cells left for her mind games.
”Spit it out, mom. You know I love you but I had a rough week so spare me of your wicked schemes.” I breathe out the words orbs closing involuntarily as I rest my head against the door frame. Where was I going anyway?
Maybe I should go for a hot chocolate before bed.
It’ll be weird not seeing my family for the holidays but I don’t want my mom to worry about me so I made sure to be extra cheerful all the time when she called only ignored her attempts of reaching me like one or two times as I had to study for two last exams and now that I can finally relax the exhaustion seems to catch up to me. I’m fine being on my own, making food and seasonal sweets while I watch tv without any interruptions, sounds like an excellent plan for Christmas, not caring how loud my music is or how bad my singing voice is under the shower.
No family means sweet alone time awaits, no one will tell me to go to sleep and I didn’t need to worry what kind of a present I should purchase at least for a little while.
”Do you remember Seokjin or not Y/N? This conversation will last longer if you don’t cooperate with me.” I can practically see her eye roll directed at me in front of my eyes despite she’s twenty miles away from here, wishful thinking on my part that she’ll let this conversation go if I ask her to stop beating around the bush.
”I don’t know. Maybe?” A fragment of my memory is triggered by hearing his name, and a scenario appears out of nowhere that was a few years ago in Sunha’s second marriage ceremony as I stand in a pastel lavender dress.
Mother was otherworldly happy for Sunha that day she dragged me with her as she chatted away mixing with the guests until we settled down to our table - when the cake cutting took place - that consisted of the bride and groom themselves and close family members like Sunha’s sons and his significant other’s daughter and, of course, my mother and I was present too.
I remember sitting down and just looking ahead aimlessly when I locked gazes with a handsome man his posture was immaculate and he seemed happy for his mother but couldn’t hide how restlessly he fidgetted in his seat, his eyes couldn’t settle watching only one thing, he even looked skittish as he jumped in his seat when the girl sitting on his left tried to catch his attention. Our eye contact lasted less than five seconds and his presence remained for thirty minutes at most as he apologised to her mother and everyone at the table since he had some urgent affairs to attend to.
I probably looked shocked for the reason that mom whispered the words into my ear when he left so suddenly to make sense of things. ”That’s Jin, her eldest son he serves in the army he probably couldn’t get a full day off because of his duties.” After humming in an understanding gesture I fixed my gaze onto the cake slice in front of me.
I remember that man clearly but with purpose, I don’t elaborate further than that, so she doesn’t have the compromitting piece of information to latch onto and make it a bigger issue. She would be elated to know I do remember Kim Seokjin, well, he’s hard to forget in the first place, he smiled only once as his mother hugged him at the table and even if it lasted for less than a second the expression was captivating. Howbeit if she tells me that she organised a date with him I’m going to slam my head to the closest hard surface I can tell. He’s so out of league and dating someone with such a dangerous profession at that, it’s not going to work, doesn’t matter how much I find him attractive and charming.
”It doesn’t matter I guess. You two could get to know each other eventually as he’ll stay at your apartment.” She drops the bomb before disconnecting the call, she doesn’t even wait for my protests this time around. A groan leaves my lips while I look around the house promptly throwing my phone to land on my bed in the means of letting out some of my frustration. I need to get going and make this house presentable again, that hot chocolate needs to wait I guess.
 from: unknown number
[7.22 AM] Hi it’s Seokjin. My plane will take off at 9ish can you send me your address?
Grabbing my phone from the kitchen counter I open the message from the unknown number the device almost slips through my fingertips as I rake my eyes over the content hesitant about how to reply I turn to my friend who so generously offered her help to tidy up my living space a little before my unrequested guest arrives. With a broom in her hand, she looks back at my weird facial expression.
”What is it? It’s him?” Gaun asks abandoning her cleaning tools to read the message as well peaking over my shoulder in order to do that. ”He sounds so uptight even in text. Brr.” She shakes her shoulders in simple displeasure that earns an eye roll from me, it’s not that he’ll send hearts when our encounter was years ago for like five seconds. Honestly, I’m surprised that mom and Sunha were able to talk him into this in the first place.
”He’s a soldier Gaun and on the contrary, we don’t know each other he has no reason to be friendly.” Gnawing on my lower lip I click on the message to reply, typing a few lines before I deleted it and rewrote it before hitting send.
[7.34 AM] Hey of course. Call me if you don’t find your way.
[7.34 AM] *google map link attached*
 from: Seokjin
[7.35 AM] I will thank you
”Let’s hurry up we don’t have that much time.” I place the phone back on the counter resuming my cleaning and Gaun starts to swipe the floor where she left off all the while I can hear the washing machine work in the distance.
I could feel my heartbeat in the pit of my stomach when the doorbell finally rang and at the other side of the door, there’s Kim Seokjin in all of his glory, that handsome soldier I got a sneak peek at his mother’s wedding wearing a formal suit and tie combo that he pulled of so nicely. I wipe my hands with a towel leaving the leftover plates in the sink as I rush to open the door for him.
”Hi.” I greet him with a friendly smile plastered on my face, I have to tilt my chin upwards to meet his eyes, he’s even taller than I remembered and he’s wearing his military uniform. My hold on the doorknob tightens how unfairly handsome he is with his hair parted in both sides leaving his forehead uncovered his uniform is well fitted and compliments the curves of his waist and thighs the cherry on top is his platform jet black boots that matches with the colour of his hair that I love so much.
A well trained German Sheppard sits near his foot with his tongue out as soon as I crouch down to pet him so focused on the animal that I almost don’t catch Seokjin’s timid ’hello’ in return, the dog’s tail starts to wag furiously seeing my face at his eye level he throws me off balance as he marches forward for more pets.
”I’m sorry he’s not normally like this.” The handsome boy offers a hand to help me up with a sheepish look, I accept the extended hand with a faint blush ignoring the pain that shoots up to my ass because of the impact with the floor. His hand is bigger than mine as it gets fully enveloped in his warm ones.
”Mom didn’t tell me you have a dog,” I chuckle lightly as I pet the dog’s head one last time unsure what to do with my hand that he no longer holds. ”I mean, she didn’t tell me much just told me you’ll come today.” His unique laugh sounded nice ringing in my ears, it made me smile up at him as he playfully shook his head. It’s weird how relaxed I feel around his presence when I was shaking with nerves just moments prior, and I’m still not entirely comfortable with him but his whole aura has a calming effect on my body. I don’t think I’ve ever met with someone that makes me feel so at ease when it’s basically our first meeting.
”Yeah, well, I think we both got played by our mothers.” I have to agree on that one with him. Realising that we’re still standing in front of my entrance I beckon him to come inside stepping out of the way so he could easily slide his luggage beside him his dog’s paws leave imprints on the clean floor but I don’t mind it as he looks so excited about everything inside sniffing and exploring while Jin tries to make him behave scratching his neck when his dog doesn’t seem to listen to a single word.
”Sorry he’s making a mess.” Seokjin apologises seeing the muddy paw marks after connecting our eyes for a few seconds he follows the steps into the kitchen. ”No Cookie that’s not food for you.” The young soldier immediately runs after his companion when he tries to steal the cinnamon rolls from the kitchen counter and I can’t help but laugh at the sight as he scolds the dog.
This is going to be an interesting holiday season I can already tell.
”I can’t believe this fucking jar.” I contemplate to smash it against the counter after spouting several curse words when a hand landed on mine directly on the jar’s lid, I feel Cookie’s fur brush against my exposed leg having enough evidence to know who’s this arm belongs to and I turn around in a moment of weakness. Jin’s hair rests on the top of his head in a messy style sweat dampening the ends.
”Need some help?” His eyes hold a childlike glow in them as he brushes his fingers against mine replacing my digits with his and the lid pops easily in his hands.
I can’t say this display of physical strength doesn’t make him even more attractive in my eyes I barely pay attention to the fact that he stands so close I can feel his chest meet mine as we breathe handing back the opened strawberry jam.
”Thanks.” I hastily turn to avoid his gaze even though that doesn’t offer much advantage as he leans closer pushing his chest against the line of my back watching as my hands spread the jam over the walnut biscuits.
”Want a taste?” Feeling bolder than usual I face him again holding up a finished treat to his mouth, Jin makes a surprised sound in the back of his throat but parts his lips obediently letting me slip the food between his teeth.
”I’ll leave as a stuffed chicken if you keep feeding me these delicious treats.” Despite the indication, he doesn’t seem against the food I offer as he tries to steal one more from the plate but I pull his hand away curling my fingers around his wrist.
”Let me finish before you devour my hard work you pig.” I roll my eyes watching his childlike antics, he seems to take pleasure in riling me up from time to time. It’s been two days since he and his companion Cookie arrived and things just worked out smoothly Jin is a nice person with horrendous jokes but he does help out a lot around the apartment he even fixed my broken ladder so we can decorate the Christmas tree that he insisted we need to purchase when I told him I was not going to go all out and celebrate this year. After all, I was supposed to be here on my own.
He’s so used to training at headquarters that he leaves every morning to run for an hour before he comes back all sweaty and satisfied finding me eating my breakfast or drinking my coffee it doesn’t matter what’s in my hands he always needs to get the last bites from it. He’s really not good for my heart.
”Since you’re doing the sweets how about I make us lunch today?” Jin asks excitedly resting his head on top of mine gently careful not to put too much weight on me, my heart speeds up at the sweet gesture not trusting my words so I nod instead. One of these days I can’t wrap my head around his intentions, he looks so nonchalant as he does things like resting his head on me or patting my knee when we watch tv together with Cookie curled around us on the couch.
”I can’t work like this.” I use the excuse to separate our bodies, is it just me or the kitchen is getting hotter by every passing second, or it’s just my cheeks heating up due to his body moulding perfectly with mine. It doesn’t help either that I remember he’s sweaty under his shirt after his daily exercise smelling nice when he probably shouldn’t have. I busy my hands to glue the biscuits together with the jam moving slightly to the side a little further from Jin’s warm body, he doesn’t say anything else as he decides to leave the kitchen Cookie stays for the sake of finishing his meal before going on a quest to find his owner leaving me behind with my thoughts.
I wrap things up quickly after that, placing the treats in the middle so Cookie can’t reach it and clean up the jam stains before retreating to my room.
It’s a pleasant surprise to check my phone and see that my mom tried to reach me an hour ago, she’s up uncharacteristically early. Too curious to find out what she wants I dial her number without a second thought, it’s been three days that she called and that time she told me Jin will stay at my place until he has to go back to the army. Whenever I think about that a frown seems to climb its way up to my expression I got used to seeing him around the house that I tend to forget he won’t be around when the new year comes and it’s scary to think about how attached I feel to him or rather how lonely I’ll feel once this is all over. He’s a busy man in general and serving under the Military’s name means he can’t be here when I need him, it would be as painful in the long run as a long-distance relationship would be. Not that I assume he’s interested in me that way.
”Hey mom sorry I didn’t hear your call. Is everything alright?” I press my phone to my left ear, closing the door behind with the help of my foot before sitting down at the edge of my bed. Seokjin’s low hum and the sound of pots and pans indicate that he started soon after I left the kitchen, it’s early to start lunch already but Jin is always restless like that.
He needs to find things to do or fix because he gets bored easily, he told me that when I picked up on his punctuality that he always has to move like a clockwork at the base he developed a habit of making use of himself and he needs to constantly do things to keep his restless energy at bay so he can sleep well at night.
He wakes up exactly at six in the morning every day even without setting up his alarm. I think it’s endearing when he thumps his foot absentmindedly even if he’s watching a movie he’s interested in, legs spread wide in a comfortable position on the sofa, his body just never relaxes completely.
”Yes dear I called early to say Merry Christmas to my baby!” I giggle in response hearing her excitement conveyed through her voice. ”I hope you enjoy your Christmas present.” Her tone turned suggestive and my laughter died down, heat rose to my cheeks and my thoughts spiralled to Seokjin’s direction.
”What’s that supposed to mean?” I glance at the door listening for the noises to make sure Jin can’t hear my flustered tone, he’s still in the kitchen and that helps me relax a little until my mom’s knowing hum filled the silence in the conversation.
”Are you getting on well with Jin right? He’s a real sweetheart so treat him nice ok?” Can’t help but all the more agree with her, he’s very considerate and funny, I think he’s the one who’s treating me nice even though I supposed to be the host, he helps out a lot and good company to be around. He sometimes misplaces my things like moving plates to a higher shelf when he knows I can’t reach it there without his help and he cracks terrible jokes that I secretly like very much and Cookie is the apple of my eye already, I think he listens to me more than he listens to Jin at this point (there might be a tiny connection that I often give him special treats during his owner's absence) and I found it hilarious as he sulks on the couch calling his dog a ’traitor’ when he decides to rest his head on my lap instead of Seokjin’s.
Little things like that make me like Seokjin more and more with each passing day.
”I’m treating him just fine mom he said he gained weight since his arrival blaming it on me, don’t worry and enjoy the holidays with dad, after all, it’s the first time that you two could celebrate with just him after so long.”
”Will do darling. I hope you’ll have a wonderful time as well I know that finals were stressing you out so I hope that you are able to relax now.” We deemed the conversation finished after wishing each other happy holidays again and for once I feel like I can mean my words as I feel relaxed around a certain someone.
”Want to place the star on top?” Jin shoved the decoration piece in front of my face whilst I placed food on the coffee table to feast upon as we watch classic Christmas movies until we can’t keep our eyes open since it’s the first day of Christmas.
”I’m not stepping on that ladder you fixed, it looks like a death trap.” Eyeing all the nails and patches on the poor thing.
”If it can hold my weight so can yours.” Jin states the facts, placing the star into my opened palm with a mischievous grin. ”I’ll hold you so don’t be a baby and decorate with me, it’s not as fun doing it alone.” That pout, dangerous and he knows that I can’t possibly say no to that when he asks me so nicely with that adorable full lips of his.
”If I fall I’m dragging you with me, just saying.” I keep our eye contact to get my point across with a meaningless glare, the corners of my lips twitch to morph into a smile hearing his happy chuckles using that moment to turn to the ladder taking the first step up the stair the scent of Jin’s aftershave hit my sensitive nose feeling his hands curve around my hip squeezing my sides to reassure me he’s here to catch me. I can blame my wobbly legs because of the shaky ladder or on my fear of high places but I can’t fool myself that the delicate shake that overpowers my body is because of the excitement I feel as I daydream about his hands on different parts of my body. It feels nice to be held by him.
”Hold on for deer life then.” A fond smile appears on my face hearing him laugh on the pun he just told me, forget my inner turmoil in the meantime placing the star to add the last piece before we declare it’s complete.
I almost can’t mask the look of disappointment I feel when he lets me go once my feet are planted on the ground the star placed on top.
”Told you it’s safe. I’m here to keep you in one piece, sugar.” His hand landing on the top of my head, caressing my hair for the time length of two outdrawn strokes before he lets his fingers fall beside his body to prop around his hips observing the tree with so much excitement that he failed to see my blush due to the pet name that probably just slipped out without any meaning behind it.
”No Cookie it’s not yours love.” I catch him before he can bite a big chunk out of our late night dinner as we’re not paying attention, it created an opportunity for him that he would’ve been foolish to disregard.
”Cheeky pretty thing just like his owner, huh?” It slips out as I pet Cookie’s head kneading the soft short furs around his ears that he knocks our heads together in beaming excitement because of the affection.
”Cookie really likes you Y/N.” The affectionate gaze he looks at me with knocks the air out of my lungs, it sounded like for a split second that he means he likes me too. Wishful thinking I remind myself before looking away clearing my throat to get things started plopping down onto the couch with a big huff leaving my lips.
”I’m starving, get your fat ass over here so we can watch Grinch.” I beam at him acting like his previous comment doesn’t hit hard as I pull my plate closer taking a bite out of the grilled chicken.
”How rude-olf of you!” He fakes his crocodile tears but as his ass hits the fluffy blanket nearly ripping my hot cocoa out of my hands it doesn’t seem like he’s feeling an ounce of hurt over my words. It’s silent for a while as we bash under the Christmas lights our faces illuminated by the tv munching on our food and sweets laid out before us Cookie resting on the rug near our feet.
”It’s been a while since I had such a nice Christmas.” Jin sighs burrowing his face onto my shoulder I can feel his breath fan over my skin the movie is long forgotten as I let his words sink in. Tired to fight the urge I tilt my head to rest it against his the moment appears to be too intimate for strangers let alone friends. ”You smell nice too.” I feel his nose around my neckline turning further into me as he inhales the scent of my hair, maybe it’s because it’s getting late but I let the feelings wash over me.
”Did you drink from my mother’s ’secret Santa’ labelled punch or something? I told you she’s a witch when it comes to alcoholic beverages.” I laugh lightheartedly and Jin follows suit hitting my left thigh when his laugh makes me laugh harder that results in my stomach twisting in pain from all the giggling even so as he starts to tickle me to take his revenge. He manhandles me with ease as he pins my wrists with one hand over my head ticking my torso with the other straddling my hip so he can restrict my squirming under him.
”You’re stronger! That’s not fair Jin.” I whine under his crushing weight, cheeks flushed from the exercise and his close proximity an innocent smile lits up his entire face as he regards me under his form, the Christmas lights are illuminated in his dark orbs creating a pretty image of him. Hair sticking to every questionable direction full lips stretched to house his angelic smile warm radiating from his body so close to mine.
I wish this moment could last forever.
”What are you thinking about?” Tilting his head in question he looks into my eyes with a fierce expression, I gulp not knowing to say the truth or come up with something on the spot. I decided it’s time for the truth.
”That I..” My sentence gets interrupted by Cookie’s barking I haven’t realised that he around the time we were occupied left his spot and watched us with curious eyes. He licked both of our faces as soon as he had the attention and Jin got up from the couch to pet him as Cookie nudged him with his nose to show him his empty bowl.
Maybe it’s a sign that I shouldn’t. Right. What was I thinking? Seokjin is never home he serves the country all the time, married to his work to the extent that he has no time left for himself, he doesn’t have the capacity to form a serious relationship with me and he’s probably not looking for love either.
It’s for the best that we separate after the new year.
I formed a plan after almost confessing my love for him to avoid any other scenarios like this in the future, to be honest, I hated it but there’s no other way for me to get over him quickly even if my heart told me I should enjoy my little time left with him I choose to ignore his attempts at spending quality time with me.
If he asked for a movie night I told him I was busy or tired I took my meals to my room telling him that I need to pick up my studying schedule for the next semester, I had the most ridiculous reasons and I’m sure he figured me out after the second time I dismissed our plans and I can’t say seeing him hurt over my words and futile attempts at lying doesn’t felt like I was stabbed with a dozen knives into my heart.
I should have stopped myself before I got too deep because now I’m hurting both of us even if he’s only mourning for a lost friend.
A scratching noise interrupted the flow of my thoughts I tiptoe all the way to the door looking around before my eyes land on a restless Cookie. He reminds me so much of his owner but he normally stays with Jin I wonder what is he doing here scratching on my door. Is he out perhaps?
”What’s wrong? You seem sad.” I crouch to his level so I can caress his fur and his tail begin to wag instantly when I pull back Cookie grabs my sleeve with his teeth careful not to hurt me before he pulls me out of my room. I try to regain my footing but he pulls me harder until my door shuts behind my back.
”Cookie. What’s up with you suddenly?” I ask him even if I know there’s no reply to wait for I observe his body language before realisation lit up in my round orbs. ”You want me to follow you somewhere sweetheart?” Hearing that he let go suddenly making me lose my balance and collide with the floor cushioning the hit with my butt just like the first time I met him when he nearly run me over with excitement. He tumps his foot as he walks away hardly leaving enough time to catch up to him. He sits down in front of Seokjin’s door, or precisely the guest room he occupies for a short period I remind myself. My eyes soften after noticing it’s his way of showing that he doesn’t want us to part in bad terms. He’s smart.
I take in a deep breath mulling over if I should talk to Jin but looking at Cookie’s hopeful eyes I can’t possibly turn around and ignore this anymore. Jin deserves a better explanation than just accepting the fact one day I ghosted him.
I raise my hand to knock on his door when I hear his voice, he’s talking to someone over the phone since I didn’t hear the front door opening or closing that would mean we have a guest and I don’t think he would invite someone here without discussing it with me, no matter if we are in speaking terms or not.
”I don’t know what happened. I thought we are good but then the next day she didn’t want to do anything with me. I’m confused.” Is he talking about me? To whom? I know eavesdropping is bad but I can’t make my body pull away from the door as I listen intently. I don’t hear what the person from the other side says only Jin’s answers that I’m able to make out as I press my ear to the smooth surface.
”Of course I tried talking to her mom! What if I said or did something that made her hate me? I don’t want to leave like this, we had so much fun. I don’t want it to end this way.” Jin groaned frustratedly while listening to his mom, hearing his voice so worried and tense talking to his loved one about me that knows me very well, I feel ten times worse for ignoring him without giving him an honest explanation.
”I like her mom, but maybe it’s already too late.”
Retreating to my room in sheer panic when he cuts the line to afraid to be caught to rationalise the words I overheard. He likes me too.
All this time I thought that my feelings are not reciprocated whilst in reality I’m just a big coward, I hid behind the fabricated words that his profession is something that doesn’t sit well with me and he has no time to have a girlfriend, but I never tried asking what he wanted. If he wanted to give us a chance or not.
These thoughts plagued my mind until I fall asleep that night, however, tomorrow will be something different.
”Good morning.” I greet Seokjin as he walks out with only his sweatpants on eyes puffy from sleep, he’s so startled by my voice that he jumps at least five centimetres above the ground and the chuckle I let out witnessing his fright confuses him more.
”Uh, good morning.” He replies, at last, passing my form to pull out a mug probably for his morning coffee but I have his fill in my hand while mine is placed on the counter next to my hip. ”The ghost of Christmas visited you last night or something?” Jin watches my form suspiciously but accepting the steaming cup of coffee with a soft ’thanks’ rolling off of his tongue.
”Something like that. Can we talk?” I meet his gaze shyly picking up on my nervous habit as I nibble on my lower lip his eyes soften up.
”Yeah, let’s sit.” He prompts and I nod following his figure to the dining table where we sit on the opposite sides of it. We drink our beverages in peace for a few minutes before I lick my lips nervously opening my mouth to talk.
”I like having you here Jin. This Christmas with you was wonderful even your bad puns are surprisingly funny.” The man in front of me giggles at that, hearing that I had fun with him dismissed some of his insecurities and he looks more relaxed sitting before me sipping on his drink occasionally, waiting.
”I’m sorry for ignoring you it was very childish of me and you deserve an explanation. If I’m being honest you scare me.” His eyebrows shoot up at the mention and I’m eager to make things clear. I don’t want him to take my words literally. ”Or maybe it’s me. I don’t know. But what I do know is that I like you a lot. It scares me because you’re a soldier and you’re never home and I would be so worried wondering about if you are safe.”
”Even if I say all of that I couldn’t make myself to unlike you because you’re funny bad pun or not, caring and affectionate and too good for this world...I just really like you.”
Shying away from his intense stare I choose to observe the rim of my mug watching the dark liquid swirl in my cup when a finger tapped on my chin to look up. The brightest smile adorned Jin’s face that is so close our noses almost touch.
”I normally hate to say that our moms were right all along but right now I’m just glad that they made us spend this Christmas together.” Seokjin’s forehead knocks against mine as we laugh, nodding subtly to avoid more damage as my smile spreads wider I notice how Jin’s eye keeps looking between my eyes and lips and I can’t wait for him to finally reduce the short distance closing my eyes to fully appreciate his finger caressing my jaw, cupping my face letting our breaths entangle for a short second before I get to taste the coffee on his lips.

Little Wonderer
A/N: Have some baby Grisha Tidemaker and some instructor Zoya content  👀
it’s a crime we don’t have more Tidemaker characters in canon, and it’s time to change that dhfaslkdhasf
Word count: 1718
Zoya thought she was going out of her mind. Perhaps it was because of the exhaustion of teaching both soldiers and children in the Little Palace everyday, coupled with the stressful meetings with the Triumvirate and enduring a ton of paperwork with Nikolai at night, that she was starting to imagine things.
At first it wasn’t that noticeable. There would be a rush of movement, or a rustle of bushes at the side, but whenever she looked back to the direction she came from, Zoya would not see anyone near. She only frowned and brushed it off as a delusion of her tired mind before continuing her way to the war room where she would meet Nikolai and the others.
But as days passed, whoever—or whatever—was following her had become a bit bolder. There would now be the sound of soft footfalls against the graveled path, and yet whenever she tried to catch who it was, she never saw anyone around the vicinity. Once again, she chalked it up to her exhaustion. She never told anyone about it as they would most likely have the same opinion about it as a result of her tiredness. But when it still continued, Zoya knew it was time to put an end to it.
She had just ended the training of the Second Army before sundown, and she was now on her way back to the Grand Palace. It had been a full week since she started feeling someone following her. Today had to be the day she figured out who it was, or else she would continue to lose her mind and be more temperamental with her students.
Zoya took the usual route from the training grounds towards the path to the Grand Palace. But instead of going through the main path in the courtyard, she decided to make a detour in the gardens. The person who tailed her always stopped outside the castle as if they were not allowed in, so she decided to take advantage of that.
A huge fountain loomed before the side of the palace, obscuring the view of the entrance if one were to look at it from the front. Zoya glanced over her shoulder for a second. Their presence was still there. They were still following her.
She almost laughed at herself. If she ended up not finding out who it was tonight, she would go absolutely insane. And most likely turn the gardens upside down. She was tired, and she didn't need another headache like Nikolai.
Zoya rounded the fountain, making sure to let herself look like she was entering the palace. But once she got behind the circular column at its middle, she crouched down behind the basin. She peeked over the marble as she slowly walked along the base, her eyes narrowed.
If someone were to see her now, she knew she would have to make an excuse for what she was doing. And probably let the ground swallow her whole. It wasn't the time for someone to see a member of the Triumvirate looking silly.
There was a sudden rustle of bush, and a shade of blue dashed forward to the other side of the fountain. The figure stopped. Zoya frowned as she watched them perch themselves up on the concrete, standing on their tiptoes and craning their head up as if to see above something taller than them. Her eyes widened.
          A child?
Her eyebrows furrowed, then she let out a huff of disbelief. A little girl had been the one tailing her? The pale blue embroidery on her kefta let Zoya know the child was a Tidemaker. But what was she doing here?
Zoya stood up and quietly made her way to the oblivious Tidemaker who was still busy peeking at the entrance. Based on her stature, she can't have been more than ten. She must be one in Zoya's sea of students in the Little Palace.
With a raised brow, Zoya cleared her throat, startling the girl so much she jumped in her place with a yelp. The young Tidemaker turned around, but she lost her footing and slipped from the marble. Zoya's eyes widened and she tried to reach for the girl, but the latter had flailed, her arm raised, as she fell down to the basin. Water suddenly burst from the fountain, drenching Zoya from head to toe. She winced and wiped at her face before pulling out the girl from the water.
She narrowed her eyes at the young Tidemaker, who only seemed to shrink back at her gaze, a sheepish smile on her lips. The girl looked familiar, at least, her dark hair and brown skin was a bit distinctive. Zoya tried to remember her name. Anya? Anna? She frowned for another moment, then something clicked in her head.
          “Alya?"
The girl's nervous smile became grimace. "Good evening, Instructor," Alya said, waving her hand as greeting. "Please don't be mad."
Zoya frowned. "I'm not mad," she said, gently pulling the young Tidemaker to her feet. "Let's get you back to the Little Palace and have you change your clothes, alright?"
A hopeful glint appeared on Alya's eyes. "You're not mad?"
"Not really," Zoya said. "Just surprised." She paused, looking down at the Tidemaker. "Why were you following me for a whole week?"
Alya averted her eyes. "I just want to see what you're doing after spending the time after teaching in the mornings and training in the afternoon,” she said softly. “I wanted to know how you do everything and not be exhausted.”
Zoya raised an eyebrow. “Who says I’m not?” she said mildly, guiding the young Tidemaker back to the main path leading to the Little Palace. The cold was already biting at her skin, and she could only guess that it was much worse for Alya. She quickened the pace, but just enough so the girl could still keep up. “It’s just a matter of having the right mindset to survive the day.”
“What are you thinking of to get through?” Alya asked, genuine wonder in her voice. She looked up at Zoya with curiosity as if she wanted to know all the secrets the world had.
A crease appeared between Zoya’s eyebrows as she looked forward and continued to guide them back to the students’ quarters, thinking of how to reply.
There were many things that drove her forward.
Her determination to restore the Second Army to a force to be reckoned with.
Her desire to protect the Grisha from being hunted down as if they were mere prey in other countries.
Her need to protect their country from crumbling further.
All these thoughts ran through her head, and yet she didn't know what to tell Alya without overwhelming her.
"I just think of the students I still have to teach the next morning," Zoya said, and she had to chuckle at the silliness of her answer. She looked down at the girl, offering her a small smile. "I have to make sure all of you don't ransack the training room, otherwise it would reflect badly on me."
Alya giggled. "We're all behaved," she reasoned, giving Zoya a pout. Then a frown appeared on the girl's face "But is that all?"
"No," said Zoya before she could even think about it. "There's still one thing."
"May I ask what it is?"
          "Hope."
If it were some time before, she wouldn't have expected herself to say it. Hope had long since left her mind when the Darkling destroyed everything and everyone in his path, almost dragging Ravka down with him as he perished.
But looking at things now, with a new king that showed his genuine desire to make a change, perhaps there was still a small sliver of hope left for them all.
Hope is both a fragile and invulnerable thing, Nazyalensky, his voice echoed in her mind. As much as it can be crushed by mere words of the mouth, it can also be the one to hold on to in the darkest times. It's difficult to obtain it. But once you do, do what you can to never lose it.
          Alya considered Zoya's answer. "Hope?"
Zoya chuckled lightly. "Yes, little one. Hope. A hope for a better tomorrow," she said, and she had to shake her head over her words. Nikolai's optimism was definitely rubbing off on her. "And a hope for all my students to wake up on time tomorrow when the bell rings at seven."
"But we always wake up on time!" the young Tidemaker whined.
"Easy now, no need to be so defensive," said Zoya.
By the time they finally arrived at the Little Palace, their keftas had already become damp.
         "Instructor Nazyalensky?"
Zoya turned to the direction of the voice, seeing one of the caretakers of the student quarters approach. "Just on time," she said. "Do you mind taking Alya back to her room and have her clothes changed? She might get sick if she doesn't right away."
"Of course," the caretaker said, gently taking Alya's wrist and examining her before turning to Zoya. "May I ask what happened?"
"Slipped and fell into the fountain," Zoya replied, and Alya frowned, looking betrayed. She raised an eyebrow at the girl in amusement. "Go now, you still have class tomorrow."
The young Tidemaker pouted, her shoulders slumping. "Okay."
Zoya felt bad for a bit, so she added, "You can practice by the lake tomorrow."
This seemed to work, because suddenly Alya's eyes were bright again, pure joy radiating in them. "Really?"
          "Of course."
"Yes!" The little girl pumped a fist in the air, and then she let the caretaker guide her to the student quarters. But before they could disappear inside the main hall, she turned back to Zoya again. She waved a hand and cheerfully said, "Good night, Instructor!" Then they were gone.
Zoya felt a rare smile appear on her face, feeling a bit lighter than most nights after a whole day of work. She never thought that today would turn out like this, with a young Tidemaker somehow reminding her what she was fighting for.
Hope, the word stayed in her mind. Zoya knew that Alya had it in her. She could only hope that the girl would never lose it as well.

The Prince and the Pauper
Warnings: noncon/dubcon elements (rough sex, public-ish, cuck-ish behaviour), some violence
This is dark!Thor and ft. Loki Reader and explicit. 18+ only.
Summary: During Loki’s stay in Asgard’s prison, he finds companionship in a fellow prisoner. Thor, still bitter about his  betrayal and ever stoking their brotherly rivalry, takes unkindly to this unexpected friendship.
Note: Alrighty, so first off, mind the warnings! Secondly, this is rough, like really rough. I don’t know but when I write dark!Thor, he’s so mean. I can’t even explain it and I’m sorry to Loki. Omg but anyway, it takes place when Loki’s imprisoned at the beginning of Dark World and before all the mess with Dark Elves and fake stabbings. Also I didn’t wriite his cell as having a force field because I’m a dumb fuck. Thank you. But anyway, bon appetit.
Leave some feedback, like and reblog if you can <3
Tumblr media
He woke you up early. Not on purpose, it was never on purpose, but he always had a way of disturbing you. Ever since his arrival; and before, in his own way. From a distance, though you’d never met. No citizen of Asgard could escape the golden rays of their royal family and you were of many who had been burned by them.
Six years. You could be thankful that the cell wasn’t entirely grim, the front wall a window, though it looked out on nothing more than stone. An artificial light above you, a hard bench as your bed, facilities in a small booth in the corner; the bare minimum of living. Not much different than before.
And you heard it again. The clicking, the metallic whir that had woken you and kept you thus. You sighed and banged your elbow against your shared wall. “Whatever it is you're playing with, stop! You’re going to drive me mad.”
“You’re awake?” He replied.
“Have been for a while now,” You snarled. “Thank you.”
Loki chuckled. You rolled your eyes and went back to braiding the laces of your boots. They were fraying and ready to break. You didn’t have much to keep yourself occupied; not like him apparently. Though he did offer you respite with his little word games now and then. More often, he irritated you.
“Ahem.” He cleared his throat and you heard a metallic object being set down.
“You’re down in these cells with me, we’re past the whole ‘your highness’ charade.” You grumbled. “Aren’t we?”
“I suppose, peasant,” He japed. You closed your eyes and huffed.
You heard a light tap on whatever metal he had been toying with before. “Please… Could you allow me a few moments without all the fidgeting?”
He laughed again but stopped. You heard his soft footsteps and saw his shadow as it was skewed by the glass before him. Side by side, it was all you ever saw of him. “How about a game, then?”
“I’m too tired for your riddles.”
“We’ll make it easy. How well do you know the city?”
“I know the south well.” You shrugged. “Haven’t really the coin to go beyond the Market Line.”
“Good enough,” He replied. “So this is how the game works. I shall start with a short explanation of a certain location. You can guess at what I have in mind or ask a question; yes or no only. Up to five and then you lose.”
“And if I lose?”
“You can sing me song.” You could hear his smirk.
“I’m tone deaf.”
“So I suspect it will be even more a loss for you.” He chimed.
“And if I win?” You asked.
“Well, as you can imagine, even with shackles, I have certain privileges,” He preened. “Perhaps a special dinner could be left in your cell? Do you like wine?”
“Common folk don’t drink wine and if they do, it isn’t very good.” You countered. “I’ll take the dinner.”
“Ale then, palace ale too. It might just keep you from waking at the smallest twitch.” He mused.
“Go on then,” You moved to lay down with your feet stretched towards the glass. The stone cool beneath you. “Let’s play your game.”
“There’s a tree outside with a broken branch and the door is painted. It has a round window on the upper floor and an alleyway on the east side.” He stated and you heard his fingertips tapping on the glass.
“That’s it?” You asked and he stayed silent. “Well, if I guess do I forfeit a question?”
“Yes. Five tries. Though if you ask a question, you can guess without detriment.”
“Is it a tavern?” You asked.
“No.” He said plainly.
“The Copper’s Book Shop.” You guessed.
“No.” He replied quickly.
“Is it a shop?” You ventured.
“That’s two, and yes.”
“Hmm,” You wiggled your foot as you thought. “Broken tree… wait.” You sat up. “Holleran’s.”
He was quiet for a moment. “Yes, that’s it.”
“That’s north of the Line,” You sniffed. “You broke your own rules.
“It was never stated as a rule,” He said coyly. “And besides, you won. Fish or venison?”
“Fresh-baked bread and spiced chicken.” You answered with a smile. “Simple but better than the gruel they serve here.”
“Sounds oddly delectable,” You heard him sit as a chair scraped. “I’ll inform the gaoler when he next app--”
He went silent as he was interrupted by the sound of the gears just around the corner from his cell. The large door which sealed the prison informed you of all visitors and new arrivals. You pushed yourself to your feet and went to the window to peer down the hall.
Two guards in armor appeared and then another man; tall, blonde, broad. It wasn’t his first visit. You’d met him outside this place though you doubted he remembered you. You quickly retreated to your bench along the back wall. The metallic click started again.
“Brother,” Loki greeted staunchly and was echoed cheerfully by his brother. “What brings you here? Surely this place cannot be preferable to Asgard, even when it rains.”
“We are still family,” Thor insisted. “And mother does bid me to see to you as much as she does.”
“And what of Father?” Loki bristled. “Does he not bid you forget me?”
“I didn’t come to provoke you,” Thor insisted. There was a slight pause.
“What did you come for?” Loki intoned. “What are you looking at?”
“Hmm?” Thor grumbled. “Oh, nothing. I come to see if there is anything you desire.”
“A key?” Loki japed. “Beyond that, I want for nothing you can give me.”
“We did hunt a wild boar. If you would like a plate…” Thor offered.
“Chicken.” He interjected. “And fresh bread. For me and the cell to the left of me. I owe them.”
“Owe them?” Thor wondered and there was another lull. You kept your head down but sensed the shadow at the edge of your window. “For what, exactly?”
“A bet. Children’s games.” Loki brushed off. “Really, it is boring down here for all. We do while our time away in rather unspectacular ways.”
“Chicken and bread.” Thor repeated and his shadow disappeared beyond the wall. “Certainly. Anything else? More books?”
“My quill’s are dull,” Loki replied. “I need nibs. Parchment too. Perhaps a candle or two.”
“Mhmm,” Thor hummed in response. “Sure, I can do that. Why Loki, this prison is almost preferable to the palace.”
“Always seeing the golden shine, brother,” Loki mulled. “So shallow, so naive. If only father could see that, he would know who was better fit to the throne.”
“Ah, but his knowing cannot change who was born first.” Thor replied smugly.
“No, it cannot,” Loki agreed. “Are you done?”
“Are you?” Thor countered. Silence. The shadow again. “I’ll leave you to your… games, brother. Perhaps next time, we can play one.”
You listened to the departure of the older prince and his guards. The door closed and the gears ground loudly. Not a second after, a metallic shatter bounced against the wall. Then a chair toppled and Loki’s footsteps grew heavier as he paced his cell.
“It smells of the docks and there’s wines along the back wall,” You began. “The front step is crooked and there’s a line of bushes outside, just along the west.” Silence. “Five guesses.”
He sighed; long and loud. “Is it a merchant?” He asked.
It was a week before the prince received another visit. It was Thor again and like the last time, Loki was less than keen on his presence. You sat in your cell, on the hard bench, and dragged your nail along the mortar lazily. Their voices were easy enough to ignore; their arguments one and the same.
And then you sensed it. The movement behind you. You kept yourself distracted with the wall. Then the shadow came closer until it stood at the centre of the window. You found it hard not to peek over your shoulder but you focused on the bricks.
“I know you from somewhere.” Thor said.
“Do you?” You asked.
“I must. I’ve seen you before.” He insisted.
“That doesn’t mean you know me.” You replied without looking.
“Leave her alone,” Loki hissed.
“I am just talking with her, brother,” Thor said. “No harm in that. Besides, you aren’t her keeper, merely a fellow prisoner.”
“She doesn’t want to talk with you.” Loki sneered.
“My lady, what got you down here?” Thor turned back to you as he ignored his brother.
“I’m not a lady, for one thing,” You turned on the bench and looked at him. “I suppose it’s why I robbed that royal ship and unmoored it so that it was lost to the depths.”
“Oh, you were one of them,” He stepped closer to the glass. “That must be it.”
“And so the mystery is solved,” Loki growled. “Let her be. It’s grim enough down here without your interrogation.”
“Grim, indeed,” Thor remained at your cell. “Do you read? Draw? I could have you provided with some instruments to ease your tedium?”
“Me?” You scoffed. “No. Thank you. I have no want for your generosity.”
“Pity, more like,” Thor corrected. “But, as you will.”
He lingered a moment as you stared back at him. He grinned and turned away as his cloak swirled around him. He tapped on the glass of his brother’s cell as he passed. “Take care, brother.”
It was several days before anything further of note occurred. It was easy to track in a place like this. Something was stark in contrast to nothing. You walked the perimeter of the cell as you thought through Loki’s latest riddle. Every now and then, he’d offer a hint through it was more gloating than actual concern. You would say no and go back to your thoughts.
‘My beak is bent downward, I burrow below; I grub in the ground and go as he guides, My gray, old master, foe of the forest. Stoop-shouldered my warder walks at my back, Fares through the field, urges and drives me, Sows in my track as I sniff along. Fetched from the wood, cunningly fitted, Brought in a wagon, I have wondrous skill. As I go my way on one side is green; On the other side plain is my dark path. Set through my back hangs a cunning spike; Another fixed forward is fast to my head. What I tear with my teeth falls to one side, If he handles me right who is my ruler.’
You ran it over and over in your head. He was growing impatient, you could hear him tapping on his table. You bit your lip and stopped in place. You tried to concentrate.
“Um…” You mumbled. “A… A plow?”
“Pardon?” He said from the other side. The tapping stopped.
“A plow. It’s a plow isn’t it?”
“It is,” He confirmed. “Your turn?”
“Oh, let me think.”
“Did you not just think for a long time?” He taunted.
“Well, do you want a good one or is an imbalanced victory still victory for you?” You retorted.
“Go on. Think.” He said sharply.
You leaned against the wall but were quickly jolted by the gears turning. Loki’s shadow neared yours as they skewed over the stone floor outside the glass wall. A gaoler appeared alongside a man in plain clothing. He held a bundle in his hands that bore a golden seal. The guard followed closely as he passed the prince’s cell and stopped before yours. You eyed the hammer pressed into the wax seal attached to the thick cord around his armful.
“Back. Against the wall.” The guard held up his baton. “Now.”
You frowned and slowly back up until you were against the brick. The glass slowly slid up and the gaoler nodded to the messenger. He stepped forward and placed the bundle on your cell floor. You watched him in confusion. He retreated and the glass descended back into place.
“What is this?” You asked as the messenger turned to leave.
“From the prince,” He supplied and continued on. The guard followed without a word.
The door closed behind them as you listened. It was still for a minute and then you stepped forward.
“Well, what is it?” Loki asked.
“Don’t know.” You answered.
“So… aren’t you going to look?” He urged.
“From the prince? Surely you know.”
“Not this prince,” He scoffed. “Ah, my brother thinks he coy.”
“I don’t understand.” You kept far from the present.
“Do you think the guards live more exciting live than us? No, they gossip and they sell any sliver worthy of gold.” He laughed darkly. “He knows we are acquainted. That we speak. He takes our games as more than they are and he thinks to win. Again. My brother has ever wanted for all he saw others have.”
“Riddles? Children’s games?” You shook your head. “Besides, he said it himself; you’re not my keeper.”
“No, but by law, he is,” Loki sounded perturbed. “I suppose he seeks to remind you of that.”
“I don’t want his gifts.” You insisted.
“I don’t blame you. They never come free.” He replied.
You neared and stared down. An envelope poked out from the cord around the canvas wrapped lump. “There’s a letter.”
“Oh… what does it say?” He paused. “Can you--”
“I can read,” You assured him and took the envelope. You slipped the leaf from within and sighed. “‘My lady’, ha, he’s a charmer isn’t he?” You scoffed. “‘I did think upon what tedium should accompany such imprisonment. And to think that of your limited company, you should also suffer my own brother. So I have provided to you some things to ease your boredom. His royal highness, Prince Thor of Asgard.’”
You enunciated his title emphatically and tucked away the letter. You dropped it atop the bundle and turned away.
“So… what did he give you?” Loki asked again.
“I don’t care,” You sat on the bench and held your chin in your hands. “I’m not accepting it.”
“Oh?” He wondered.
“Well, knowing you, I suspect tricks might run in the family.” You said.
“Ah,” He added another syllable. “You might not be wrong.”
Two days later. The bundle stayed where it was, even as your meals were delivered. But your breakfast didn’t come that day. Not on time.
The door whirred to announce more than the guard. Two in golden armour and the usual in his silver mail. They walked behind the prince, Thor, who acknowledged his brother with only a smirk. You backed up against the wall of your cell and watched him approach.
There was a train of servants too; one with a tray, one with a stack of dishes and cutlery, another with an ewer, another with a table, and a third with a pair of chairs. The guard barked at you to stay and the glass slowly opened.
“Brother…” Loki’s voice was a low warning.
“Shortly, Loki, I do have other business to attend before I get to you.” Thor’s eyes didn’t leave you as the servants set up their wares in you cell. You frowned and crossed your arms. The glass remained open and the guards stood at either corner. “My lady.”
“I am a peasant.” You insisted. “And a criminal besides that.”
He sat as the tray was uncovered. “I thought you might be hungry.”
“The gruel is good enough.” You insisted.
“Sit.” He waved to the other chair. “Tell me you wouldn’t like something a little more solid?” He picked up a rasher and waved it in the air. “A little more flavourful?”
You glared at him. Even as a prisoner, you could not disobey the prince. You neared slowly and sat reluctantly but made no move to help yourself to the food. He didn’t seem to care as he loaded a plate for you. He placed it before you and sat back.
“You haven’t touched my gifts?” He asked.
“There is no reason for them.” You said evenly.
“Does there need to be?” He took a bite of bacon. “A kind gesture. Rare, but I wouldn’t think unwelcome for you.”
“Not much I welcome about this place.” You said.
“Well, aren’t you going to eat?” He asked. You raised your brows and slowly reached to your plate. “There are books. One to sketch in and some charcoal.” He nodded to the bundle still on your floor. “I can get you paints.”
“What am I ever going to sketch in this place? The wall?” You swallowed.
“Then you can read.” He offered.
“Too restless to read,” You said.
“Restless?” He repeated. “Yes, I can see how.”
You ate quietly as he rubbed his chin. He leaned back as he grabbed his cup and drank.
“So, what if I gave you something to do? You’d still be serving your sentence, of course, but you wouldn’t have to stay here.”
His eyes strayed to the wall against Loki’s cell. You blinked and wiped your hands with the napkin.
“You could be my chambermaid. My own recently went to work for my mother instead.” He grinned. “A couple hours a day away from here…”
“I don’t think I would be very adept at that role.” You said.
“I do. You seem a bright woman. Quick with your tongue and surely on your feet.” He mused. “Tell me you’d not rather remain here in these cells… with him?”
“My decision is hardly affected by your brother,” You assured him. “I haven’t any desire to serve you or your family. That is how I ended up here so it would be a disservice to myself and the common folk of this kingdom to bow to you now.”
His smirk fell. He took another bite of bacon and shoveled some hash into his mouth. He sighed. “I’ll let you think about it,” He uttered at last. “I really do think you should consider this more deeply.”
You nodded and looked away from him. Loki’s shadow stood in the corridor just beside your cell. He was listening. You pushed away the plate and stood. “You know, I’m not all that hungry after all.”
Thor left and Loki was silent. You heard him move now and then but he didn't speak. There was tension in the air but you couldn't tell if it was for you or his brother. You kept quiet.
When you laid down across the hard bench, he had yet to speak. He wasn't always talkative but your riddles, your games, had grown routine. You were restless and when you finally slept, you dreamt of the prince.
Not the one on the other side of the wall but the one which had come within. He stood outside your window and watched. That's all. Just watched. And smiled. That smile was terrifying.
You awoke with a start. A figure stood outside your wall but it was only the guard with your breakfast. The usual bowl of grey slop. He slid it through the small slot meant for the purpose and marched away. You took it and stirred it with a grimace.
"You should've accepted his offer." Loki intoned. "It might have saved you that vile fare."
"I'd rather this." You took a mouthful and choked it down.
"Why? It's horrid down here."
"Are you so eager to see me work for your family? Would it give you some peripheral sense of superiority?" You wondered.
"Not at all. I only know, it wasn't a careless offer." He said.
"Which means?"
"My brother is not used to being told no." He said. "He'll surely ask again."
"Why?"
"I've asked myself the same." His shadow loomed in the hallway. "Suppose it's as much about me as you. If not more so… He always has to have it all."
"So I should say yes and achieve what exactly?"
"Some luxury in such a dull life." He offered. "Or perhaps he would see that his little ploy is meaningless and he will leave you be."
"Meaningless?" You echoed. "Ah yes, because it wouldn't bother you at all, would it? I am still, after all, just a peasant."
"That is not what I said." He insisted.
"So… you would care?" You asked.
"I didn't say that either."
"Well, you wouldn't care about me but you would care that he would take away your toy."
"Toy… no, that's not--"
"Don't worry. I never thought any differently but the trade was even. I distracted you, you distracted me, and it was all a little more bearable." You shrugged and took another scoop of porridge. "I can't quite see you over there but let me tell you what I can guess at; you've got a nice bed, yes? A sofa even. A table. Some baubles and some real toys. A bookcase too and--"
"But I am still down here." He interrupted. "As you are."
"So you are but your privilege follows you," You held the brim of the bowl before your lips. "Doesn't it?"
The days grew longer. Quieter. Loki was less talkative than those first days in the prison. You waited for a riddle, for a game, but it never came. It didn't matter. You were there years before him and he'd no doubt be out before you. There was something about his demeanour which always suggested he saw it as little more than a brief sojourn in a life unspent.
And then he wasn't quiet. You heard a light thump against the glass of his cell. His shadow moved quickly across the floor and back to the corner nearest you. He said your name. You pushed yourself from the bench and neared him.
"He's… I can sense it." His voice was full of a concern you'd never heard from him. Much more than his usual apathy. "He is coming and he is up to no good."
"Who? Thor?" You scoffed. "When has he ever--"
"I'm serious." He hissed as the gears of the door began to tick outside your cells. "Appease him if you can but by gods, do not provoke him."
"What? You're--"
"I know him well despite our bad blood." He spoke hurriedly as the door opened slowly. "My brother can be cruel, not that any ever believed me."
"I…" You took a step back. His tone, his sudden change, it did not bode well. This wasn't a game. "Is he here for you?" You whispered as royal guards appeared at the end of the hall.
"No, I'm sure he is not." He uttered and whisked away as he raised his voice. "Brother, back so soon? I did hope to request some more books. I've exhausted my collection already and--"
Thor sneered and waved his brother off as he continued towards your cell. You backed up so fast you almost stumbled and pressed yourself to the wall. He stared at you, a tic in his jaw as he motioned for the glass to be lifted. As it did, your eyes rounded.
"I've been thinking on you," He stepped inside. "I have heard you like games." You watched him wordlessly as he reached into his tunic. "So, I thought we could play one."
"Don't," Loki warned from the other cell though you could not tell if he spoke to you or his brother.
"Chance." He revealed a half dozen golden dice. "Simple."
"Why are you doing this?" Loki called.
"Why, brother, I am merely seeking to entertain her," Thor neared you and loomed over you. "As you have. Hopefully more."
"She is a prisoner. An enemy of our family." Loki argued.
"And yet you collude with her as if she were a friend," Thor smirked and grabbed your arm. "Come, sit and we will go over the rules."
"I don't want to play," You tried to resist as he dragged you from the wall. "Please."
"You will play with a trickster but not me?" He turned you so sharply you were dizzy. "Though as you are a prisoner, I see not how your desires should matter. So sit." He shoved you so that you stumbled. "And let's have some fun."
He didn’t flinch and you lowered yourself to the floor to sit on your heels. He sat too and placed the dice between you. You looked to the guards as they watched silently from the hall. You turned back to him and frowned.
“Take one. Roll it and we’ll see who’s up first, eh.” He said.
“Thor--” Loki’s voice rose from the next cell.
“Go back to your books, brother,” Thor called back and kept his eyes on you. “Take one.”
You reached out cautiously as he scooped up a die in kind. He tossed his and you did the same, they bounced across the stone noisily. Loki’s long sigh filled the void. Your block showed six dots as the prince’s read five. He slapped the stone and pushed the pile of dice towards you.
“Your turn first,” He announced. “For each die you match, you get a point; if they should count in order, ten points, and if they all match, twenty. You get three rolls and you may recast whatever die you wish. Simple enough?”
“Simple.” You affirmed. You paused as you stared back at him. He merely smirked and waited.
“Oh,” He began as you gathered up the dice. “We forgot to set the prize.”
“Prize?” You cradled the dice in your hands.
“We’ll start small. You win, you get the meal of your choice. I win… you get the meal of my choice. With me.”
“And if I should forfeit here and now?” You asked.
“Too late for that,” He leaned back on his hands. “Roll.”
You inhaled and let the dice fall. They rolled and bumped on the stone and stilled at last. Three fours and a single two. You glanced up and swiped the two off the floor and tossed it again. A five. One more try. You had to keep from a grin as the four turned its face up at you. Thor chuckled.
“Twenty points.” He declared. “Though if it is a draw, we will restart.”
His large hand covered the dice as he picked them up and let them go. You listened to the golden cubes against the stone. Three ones, a six, and a two. He shook his head and scooped up the six and the two. He shook the die for a time in his hand before he let them go again. Another one and a five. He took the five and met your eye as he rolled his final turn. He looked down and you did too. A three.
“Damn,” He swore. “A winner, my lady.”
You nodded and looked past him. The guards stared at the ceiling or their feet, unbothered by this little show. Loki’s shadow lurked in the corner. Listening against the glass.
“Anything but gruel is fine by me,” You said as you made to stand.
“We are not done yet. Two more rounds.” He insisted. “This one, we will have a better prize, hmmm?”
You sat back on your heel and shrugged. You waited for him to continue.
“If you win, you may as of me anything; a book, a pen, a visitor of your choice, perhaps a new bed.” He looked over at the bench and cringed. “Though I might be swayed to provide that out of decency.”
“And if I requested peace? For you to leave me as I was?” You ventured. “What then?”
“If that is what you should ask of me, I will see you to your solitary,” He said sharply. “And peace you shall have.”
You winced at the edge in his voice. You rubbed your neck and shifted on your knees. “A chair…” You said softly. “A chair would appease me.”
“Very well.” He allowed. “And my prize; a single day.” You raised a brow, confused. “With you, my lady. Perhaps I might show you how Asgard has improved since your imprisonment. Perhaps… you might not begrudge me so vehemently then.”
“Perhaps.” You said. “So… do I roll first again?”
He nodded and waited. You took up the die. This time none of the blocks matched but you only need a three to give you straight. You took the six and tossed it. Easy. Ten points and likely a win unless he could draw or match every die. He didn’t. Four points for as many twos.
“You shall have your chair,” He swept up the dice. “And now our final round.”
“No…” Loki was so quiet you weren’t certain he had spoken but it made the hair on your neck stand.
“This should be interesting.” He offered you the dice and you reached to take them. His rough fingers brushed your palm as you did. “If you win, you’re free. I leave this door open and you walk out, absolved.”
You nearly dropped the dice as you blinked at him. “What?”
“Oh yes, a third win and you shall be rid of both of us.” He nodded to the wall. “A fine prize, indeed.”
“And if you win?” You asked quietly, almost breathless.
His lips curved beneath his golden beard and pushed his golden hair back with his hands. “Well, should I win, then my prize would be… You.”
You pushed yourself back from him. Startled. You stood, the dice still in your fist. You looked around frantically. Something was amiss. He was too certain. But there was no escape. You were trapped and you expected, this was no game of chance. Not truly.
“This game is over.” You held out your hand. “I don’t want your prizes. Keep them.”
“This game ends when I say,” He got up on his knees and walked toward you. He grabbed your wrist and pulled you back down. “So, sit.” He snarled. “And roll.”
His grip was enough to crush your bones and you fell back to your knees. He let go and you looked down at the blocks in your hand. You shook your head and closed your eyes. You curled your fingers around them slowly and sighed.
“Oh,” He added. “And this round will be one roll only.”
Your eyes snapped open and you swallowed. You felt brittle as your nerves threatened to shatter. You lowered your head and tossed the dice; resigned to their fate. Three threes, a six, and a five. You kept your eyes on the floor as he collected the blocks and shook them loudly in his hand.
You held your breath and he threw them to clatter on the floor. Three sixes and a four as the last rolled across the stone towards you. It still just beside your knee and you looked down in dread. Six dots; each etched into the gold and painted white. Your throat tightened and your shoulders slumped. Fuck.
“Thor!” Loki cried as he pounded on the glass. “Don’t! She didn’t--”
“Oh, I remember,” Thor boomed. “I remember her well. This little wench I found in the backstreets. Hands covered in gunpowder; soul coated in dirt. Oh, yes,” He shoved the dice out of the way as he leaned in and grabbed your chin. “I remember those words you painted on that ship; the coin you shared with your fellow rodents.”
You looked at him and gritted your teeth. His hand fell to your throat and he squeezed.
“Of course, you’d be partial to her, brother.” He stood and you were forced to your feet as he gripped you tightly. “She’s just like you, isn’t she?”
“Stop!” Loki hammered on the glass. “She has done nothing to you.”
“She stole from our family; from our kingdom.” Thor dragged you to the door. “And you sit down here and humour her. Do you truly think your little coup aligns you with this bitch? Brother, do not lower yourself so.”
You grabbed onto his arm as he choked you and kicked your feet against the stone as he nearly lifted you entirely.
“Open his door; restrain him.” Thor barked.
“What are you--” Loki cried out and you heard his body crumple to the floor.
The guards approached his cell as his door slid open. He grunted as he was seized and Thor drew you with him along the hall. The dark-haired prince was sat in a chair, hands cuffed behind his back as a metal collar was secured around his neck and attached to the restraints. The guard jabbed him again in the rib with his baton and Loki yelped and pulled against his bounds. Another chain, golden and glowing, secured him to the chair.
“She didn’t--” Loki hissed as the guard threatened another jolt. “Thor, please.”
“I remember what you said then, brother,” Thor pulled you into the cell. He turned you and shoved you across the room. You collided with the long table and several books toppled over its edge. “Hmm? You said they were filthy peasants; greedy and immoral. Entirely inhuman, eh?”
You tried to push yourself up but Thor was upon you in a moment. He grabbed the back of your neck and forced you to bend over the table. You turned your head beneath his weight and your cheek pressed to the smooth wood. Loki stared at you; as helpless as you were. Shocked, even. It was the first time he’d seen you; the first time you were more than a voice through the wall.
“And now… you’re one of them.” Thor brought his other hand up and ran it along your back as he pressed himself behind you. “You would betray our father, our family.” He snarled as he shoved your shirt up. “And you have not learned. You sit down here and act as you always have. As if it was all just a game.”
You squirmed and reached out as you tried to pulled yourself away from him. He reached to your head and pulled it back by your hair.
“Look at her. I can see the appeal but… Brother, you are still a prince.” He slammed your head back down and silver spots swam in your eyes. “Is this what you want? Hmm?”
His fingers pushed beneath the waist of your pants and he tugged until the button popped off. You clawed at his hand as he crushed your head to the wood. You kicked as he forced a leg between yours. He pulled your pants lower and you whimpered. Your eyes met Loki’s green ones. He wrestled with the cuffs and the guards stunned him again with the club.
You closed your eyes as he cried out. Your ass was bared and your pants gathered around your ankles. Thor wiggled against you so that you could feel his arousal. You grunted and tried to wriggle away. He chuckled and carefully unlaced his trousers, his rough fingers brushed against you.
“Don’t you close your eyes,” Thor growled and you opened yours as Loki’s widened in horror. “You are many things but you are no coward, brother.”
You felt a prod against your thigh. Your toes scuffed on the stone as Thor dragged his tip along your ass. You squeaked and squirmed helplessly. He guided himself lower as his hand trailed from your head to your hip. He pushed so that you were forced to arch your back.
He was at your entrance in a moment. You whined and he rubbed himself along your folds with a hum. You lifted your head and let it fall back to the table heavily. He pushed inside slowly and reached behind you to try to fend him off. He sank into you entirely as he caught your arms and twisted them up against your back.
You exclaimed and he held himself inside of you. Your walls ached as he rolled his hips. You hissed and tears pricked at your eyes. He pulled back only to slam into you again and you yiped. He did it again, again, again. Each cry only seemed to encourage him.
You clamped your lips shut. Your eyes blurred as the tears gathered and Loki’s jaw tensed as he watched. He sagged in his chair as his chest rose and fell. Your entire body jolted as Thor thrust into you and the table scraped on the stone floor. He released your arms and gripped your hips instead. He pulled you back into him as he fucked you without mercy.
You couldn’t help the pathetic mewls that rose from you. Your hips hit the wood each time he moved you and your head pounded terribly. Your walls felt as if they would tear as he plunged into you. His pelvis crashed against your ass over and over. You scratched at the wood of the table as you tried to gain any foothold.
He drew you to your feet. He hooked his arms through yours and rocked into you with loud moans, each one mirrored by your weak groans. He turned you to face Loki as he sped up. The sickly noises filled the cell as you hung your head. You couldn’t look at the other prince. You could barely keep from collapsing entirely.
Thor wrapped his arms around your middle and drew you against him. His hot breath crawled along your neck and his grunts rang in your ears. Your eyes rolled back as you panted, your body a puppet in his hands. He rutted into you until you could no longer withhold your sobs. Until your cheeks were wet with your surrender.
And he roared. You felt the sudden warmth within as he slowed. He shuddered as he pulled himself from you and his cum spilled down your thighs. He laughed and dropped you. Your legs wobbled as you tried to catch yourself. Your feet tangle in your pants and you fell to the stone in a heap. You bent your legs and tried to cover yourself as he tucked his cock away.
“Well, brother,” Thor said as he nudged you with his toe. “You always did enjoy my leftovers.”
“Why?” Loki croaked and you hid your face in shame.
“Because,” Thor stepped around you to lord over his brother. “You will never have what is mine. Not the throne, not my people. Nothing.”
Thor snickered and Loki snarled. The older prince turned and stepped over you. He strode to the door and stopped. The air was still; suffocating.
“Take the wench to my chambers,” Thor ordered his guards. “And you may untie my brother when he has calmed.”

Making a Difference
Ushijima Wakatoshi x reader
summary: You find out what Ushijima Wakatoshi thinks of you.
a/n: hurt/comfort? if im classifying it wrong lemme know oki. also not really proof read
Why did you like Ushijima? Because he's handsome, tall and most importantly, he wasn't the type to lead you on.
He was straightforward, never one to beat around the bush. What he said was what he meant, he didn't waste time lying. He wasn't kind, but he wasn't unkind either. He never had an ulterior motive.
You took comfort in the knowledge that Ushijima wouldn't hang out with you if he didn't want to.
His confidence wasn't a sign of arrogance. It was merely him trusting his abilities and hardwork. When he wanted something, he doesn't think about the possibility of failing, he just works towards his goals. Something about the way he oozed decisiveness was just so attractive.
Always facing the future, never stopping to doubt himself.
Tumblr media
When you first met him, you were intimidated by his stature and charisma. His stoic face and blunt replies were something you had never encountered.
After multiple interactions, you started to find his way of reacting to situations refreshing and cute. How he always skipped pleasantries to get to the point just wormed its way into your heart.
Guessing correctly that he wasn't the type to chase anyone, you took it upon yourself to befriend him. After months and months of talking to him, the two of you finally had some sort of hang-out schedule where you ate together everyweek or so.
This week you two were at a cafe you frequented.
Having ended your story about messing up your math test, you spent some time just appreciating your ice cream sundae. Feeling ansty, you peered over. He was mindlessly sipping an Iced Americano while looking through the window. You let slip what has been plaguing your mind recently.
"Hey, Toshi, do you enjoy hanging out with me?" you questioned between spoonfuls.
He blinks, surprised. Taking another sip, he mulls it over, "I don't think it makes a difference,"
You feel your heart sink.
Cocking your head, "Then why do you hang out with me?"
"Because you asked." It is a statement, not a question. He says it so matter-of-factly, you feel stupid for not realising it earlier.
Then it cracks.
You give a strained laugh, "What do you mean by that, we're friends right?" you're grasping at straws.
He ponders, "I suppose we are,"
He doesn't even think about you enough to form an opinion.
Crack.
He doesn't dislike you, but he doesn't like you, either. It made no difference to him if you were in his life or not.
Crack.
Why did you like Ushijima? Because he's handsome, tall and most importantly, he wasn't the type to lead you on.
But in all your daydreams, you forgot the possibility that you wouldn't even matter to him. That he wouldn't even think of you as someone to lead on.
Crack.
The rest of the conversation is done on auto-pilot.
Crack.
You smiled and waved at him as you parted ways to go home.
You watch the fissures in your heart extend and connect until it shatters just as he leaves your line of sight.
You watch it fall through the gaps between your hands along with all your careful rationalisations you made to ensure you wouldn't get your feelings played. But in the end, the only person hurt was you, again.
This time, you couldn't even fault the other party.
Tumblr media
The next few days passed in a daze. You completely stopped approaching Ushijima. As you now expected, he didn't seem to notice, or he just didn't care.
Tumblr media
Ushijima Wakatoshi has been feeling a little off these few days. His chest feels a little tighter? He doesn't know what it is or how it happened, but he knows something in his days is different now.
My health is in good condition, practice is normal, what else could it be? Before he could reach a conclusion, a pair of hands clasped onto his shoulder.
"Oi Wakatoshi, what happened to your puppy," Tendou leans in close to him.
He stares back, "I don't have a pet."
The other boy just laughs, "I was talking about the girl! The one that always trailed after you like a pup," he opens his locker, obscuring his face.
After a few moments of silence, he peeked out, "The one with a high ponytail? Pretty and short?"
"Are you referring to y/n?" he finally answers.
"Yes! That's the girl," his head disappears again. "Don't you think she reminds you of a puppy? Always chasing after you, and all."
Ushijima frowns, "She reminds me of her," he picks up his bag, closing the locker. "And she doesn't chase after me."
Tendou guffaws, "Classic Wakatoshi," he mimes wiping his eyes, "should've known you were gonna say that," he pats him on the back, nudging him towards the door, "Did you finally reject her? Is that why she hasn't been around you lately?"
"She doesn't like me," Ushijima locks up the room.
Tendou stuffs his hand into his pockets, "Please, everyone except you could tell she has a crush on you," he exhales, watching his breath condense.
"She never said anything to me,"
"Duh, you're not exactly the romantic type, it must have been intimidating to confess to you. Well, if you didn't reject her, then what did you do to make her mad?"
Ushijima stops walking, "I didn't do anything."
"You sure? Oh well, if you want her to stay in your life, you better do something about it quick," he turns back, "else I might swoop in to catch her, you know?" he grins.
Ushijima’s brow’s furrow. He might not know what was different in his days now, but the thought of Tendou hanging around you caused the feeling in his chest to tighten.
Tumblr media
"Would you like to visit the cafe with me today?"
You freeze while packing your bag. Looking up, you blink a few times.
Sure enough, Ushijima Wakatoshi stands in front of your desk, waiting. Your eyebrows shoot towards your hairline. In the whole year you spent hanging around him, he has never once initiated an outing.
Confusion enters your mind, "Uh, is there a reason for this or...?"
"I just want to," he furrows his brows, "unless you're busy?"
You try not to let your hopes soar, "No! No, I'm not busy," you give him a small smile, "wait a bit for me to pack,"
The walk with him is silent.
Your mind was too busy running a mile a minute, trying to rationalise the situation. He wants to hang out with me? He probably just needs a favour right? Thoughts cycled between hopeful and resigned. Discreetly looking at him, softly squeaking when you realise he’s frowning while staring ahead. Is he mad at me? But for what?
Ushijima on the other hand, had just as much on his mind. While walking with you like this, close enough that your hands could almost brush each other, he notes that the tightness in his chest dissipates. The implications of this puzzled him.
Is this a symptom of a sickness that can only be relieved by being around you? What kind of sickness is that? He’s thinking it over when Tendou’s words enter his mind.
"Please, everyone except you could tell she has a crush on you,"
He glances at you, looking flustered and deep in thought. Do you have a crush on him? He doesn’t know the answer, but the thought of it made his chest flutter. Does he have a crush on you? Is what he finds himself asking.
He imagines he had a choice between hanging out with you or not, and he finds himself picking the former. In that choice, he realises his answer.
While walking through the park before the cafe, he stops.
You turn back to face him, cocking your head, "Is something wrong....?"
The question hangs in the air, sending your mind into overdrive.
"Do you like me?"
Your entire face flushes, "Wha-? Why are you asking?" there's nowhere to hide, so you settle for looking anywhere else.
"Because I think I like you," your eyes snap to his, mouth agape, "and I want to know if you feel the same way,"
You stare at him, mouth still slack, brain coming up with a million different ways he could be joking before you suck in a deep breath, calming yourself. Eyes clenched shut, you think.
Why did you like Ushijima? Because he's handsome, tall and most importantly, he wasn't the type to lead you on.
He doesn’t know a joke if it hit him in the face. What he said was what he meant. Now he’s telling you he thinks he has feelings for you. Time to give him an answer.
Tilting your head up to maintain eye contact, “Yes, I...I do like you,” your words come out shakier than you intended.
His expression remains grave, but you think you see a light pink dust his cheeks, “Do you want to go out with me?”
Your eyes god wide, “Uh...I would love you? I would love to!” you slap a hand to your mouth at your slip up, way to early to be saying I love yous! You’re pulled out of your spiraling by a deep chuckle.
You look up to see a small smile on his face, air still ringing with his soft laughter “I’m glad to hear that,” he steps towards you, “we should get going if we want to make it before the crowd,”
“Uh... yea,” you manage to squeak out while he maneuvers your body towards the cafe. You follow along in a daze.
Ushijima confessed to you, and you got to see him smile and hear him laugh. You wonder if this is a dream, did your daydreams make you hallucinate? His hand reaching to intertwine with yours removes any doubt you have.
Nah, you squeeze his hand, no daydream of mine could come up with something as good as this, smiling as the two of you enter the cafe.

Chapter 11 -- Perfect Harmony | Charlie Gillespie
Summary: Emily Fox is a talented 17-year-old with a passion for all things music. Her dream is to become a successful singer-songwriter one day. But to achieve that dream, she needs to get into one of the most prestigious music schools in her district – it’s all been part of her plan since she was six. Sadly enough, those schools cost a ton of money that her parents don’t want to invest. They don’t even want her to pursue her dream. So, now Emily’s hustling, working at the music store to save up to get into college. That’s until she meets Charlie, an annoying seventeen-year-old boy with the same dream as her. The only difference is, he’s just doing it. He doesn’t need a fancy college to pursue his dream to become famous with his band. He just writes his songs and books small gigs here, there and everywhere. Will meeting Charlie defer her from her dream college, or will he actually help her achieve the dream?
Pairing: Charlie Gillespie x OC (Emily Fox)
Warnings: mentions of death, sexual assault
Important note: the characters of Charlie, Owen, Jeremy and Madison are based on the characters they play on the show and i do not own their names, only OC are mine. The songs aren’t mine either, they’re all from the show except for one.

Chapter eleven
~|Charlie Gillespie|~
Making out in the back of a music store has never been at the top of my bucket list, but I have to tell you, it’s the best thing ever. Unless one’s employer barges in every five minutes. Even though we only ever sneak off during her breaks or after closing time, Ash never really leaves us alone. Ever since she busted us after hours, she hasn’t trusted us alone for a second. It’s kind of annoying and pretty much the biggest buzzkill ever. “Ash, could you please stop coming in so often?!” Emily shouts at her on Wednesday. This time, we’d just been working around the store; Emily sweeping up and me sorting the invoices. “If you didn’t violate my trust, I wouldn’t have to come back so often!” Ash shouts back. I suddenly feel like I’m intruding and shouldn’t be there at all. “How in the hell did I violate your trust? It’s not like we’ve been sneaking off during my shifts!” This discussion is way worse than what their other discussions have been before. “Hey, Ems…” I try to chime in carefully. “Not now, Charles!” I immediately back off upon hearing my full name and return to sorting the invoices. “Tell me, Ash. How did I violate your trust? If anything, you violated my privacy!” “Your privacy? This is my store you’re talking about, Emily Fox!” Mmh, Emily Fox. Nice. Sounds cute. Not the point, though. “You shouldn’t be making out in a store people could just walk right into!” I really just want to leave and not be a part of this at all, but I don’t want to leave Emily alone either. “Fine! We shouldn’t have, okay? Can you get off our backs now?!” She glances over at me and offers me a quick smile, telling me it’s all right. “Fine! But if I ever bust you again not doing what you’re supposed to do, you’re fired.” “Honestly, you should be happy Charlie is helping out for free.” “Whatever, Emily. Just don’t let it happen again, okay?!” “Yeah, it won’t happen again, Ashlynn. Now, please leave, so I can clean up.” Emily passive-aggressively points at the door, arm stretched out entirely. Ash huffs once before turning around and leaving the store. The tension, however, doesn’t leave with her. It stays here. On Emily’s shoulders and hangs around us like a foggy mist. “You okay, Ems?” I carefully ask. She noticeably relaxes a little, her shoulders tensing a little less. She then lets out an exasperated sigh and walks over towards me. I think she wants a hug, so I start opening my arms until she walks past me and grabs the broom instead. “Hey,” I grab her hand gingerly. She looks up at me, her eyes dark and shooting fires which fade out quickly. “I’m fine, Charlie,” she manages a smile, but it doesn’t convince me. “You sure?” She nods her head and reaches up to kiss me on my cheek. I’m then left alone with the burning feeling of her lips still on my cheek whilst she goes to sweep up the place. From that day on, our make-out sessions have been put on hold until we’re out of the store and now take place in a dodgy alley between stores. “Are you sure we should be here?” I ask, pulling away from a kiss, and looking around feverishly. Emily’s chuckle reassures me the tiniest bit. “Relax, I used to come here with –” she freezes, her eyes widening. “With who?” I ask. “With whom?” she corrects my grammar, which makes me roll my eyes. “It doesn’t matter,” she replies and grabs my face to lead me towards her lips again. The half-sentence keeps haunting my mind though, so I pull away again. “Charlie!” she drawls out the last syllable of my name in an annoyed squeak. “I’m sorry, but now I can’t stop thinking about you kissing another guy here.” “You’re imagining me kissing another guy? Is that a weird turn-on I never heard about, or?” She looks adorable with her head slightly tilted and her eyebrows knitted together, her face only lit up by one streetlight. “No,” I scoff, “I just—” I can’t even find the right words to tell her what I’m feeling or thinking. There’s a lot going on in my mind and most of them don’t have to do with me kissing Emily. I can’t find my way through the word-jumble. “Hey,” she brings my attention right back to her, “If it’ll make you feel better, I know a different place we can do this.” She wiggles her eyebrows, pecks my lips once more, and then leads me out to the street again. It takes us a while to get to the location, but once we’re there, I realize we’re in front of her house. “Ems?” “There’s a fire escape ladder on the left side of the house, which leads to the balcony that’s connected to my bedroom. Climb up and meet me there. I’m going inside to distract my uncle Mitch.” Her voice is just above a whisper, and it’s sending shivers down my spine. “Ems—” “Go!” She kisses me once again before heading inside. Before she shuts the front door, she mouths a ‘go’. I listen like an obedient puppy and make my way into her yard. I pass a large window through which I can see Emily talking to her uncle. He seems like a cool uncle. Not one who’d kill me for dating his daughter, or niece. Emily spots me, her eyes growing wide. She jerks her head a little, telling me to move on with my journey. Suddenly, Uncle Mitch starts turning towards the window and in case Emily doesn’t save the situation in time, I squat down behind the bush in front of me. One, two, three, four, five. I peek behind the bush, finding no one in the living room; they must’ve split. So, I make my way up the balcony where I find Emily already. She’s turned on the many fairy lights in her room, which gives the small balcony a fairytale-like glow. “Never heard of a term ‘hurry’?” She asks and immediately plants her lips onto mine. I haven’t even gotten the time to get off the ladder. “Hey, this kind of looks like that scene in Aladdin, doesn’t it?” She points out with a smile, her hands still on my cheeks. “Should I have brought my magic carpet?” I ask while she steps away to give me room to get off the ladder and onto the balcony. With an amused smile on her face, she raises her eyebrows as if saying “really, honey?”. – I’m imagining the cute nickname. She wouldn’t actually call me ‘honey’, sadly enough. “Just kiss me,” I say, a little annoyed she doesn’t like my joke. “Wait!” she says and gets back inside her room. I watch her – and admire her – as she grabs a heap of cushions from her bed. “I locked the door, so I think we might be good on the adults-entering-unexpectedly front.” I chuckle a little and take a couple of the cushions from her. We place them against the railing. I sit down first, Emily following suit. At first, she just sits next to me, grabs my face and kisses me passionately. I’m a bit taken aback by the fire in her kisses tonight, but I can’t say I don’t like it. “Are you comfortable?” I ask her then, realizing she’s straining herself a little. Even though she nods, I still grab both her legs and swing them over mine, so she’s sideways. “Better?” She nods again before resuming our kiss with a faint smile on her face. I can’t help the smile tugging at my lips too. Being with Emily is unbelievable.
That’s how we spend every night from Thursday on. On her balcony, making out. Every night except Saturday. Emily asked Ash beforehand if it was cool the band would come and rehearse in the store tonight. “Well, as long as you don’t have make-out sessions with all of them, I’m fine with it,” Ash had said, to which Emily had rolled her eyes. Hard. “Are you guys decent? We’re coming in!” Jeremy’s voice sounds just after the bell ringing. “What do you think we’re doing in here?” Emily makes the mistake of actually reacting. “You don’t want to know what he’s thinking,” Owen tells her instead, slapping Jeremy on the back of his head. The dark-haired boy lets out an ‘ow’ before glaring at the blonde one. “Right, I don’t,” Emily’s mouth curls up into a smirk, and I know exactly what’s coming. “What I do want is hearing you guys play.” I knew it and I can’t stop my eyes from rolling. “What do you want us to play?” Owen questions as he takes his spot behind the drums. “Now or Never,” Emily and I say in unison. She furrows her eyebrows at me, giving me an adorable version of her scowl. “You ask me to play that all the time, Ems,” I tell her, hanging the strap of the guitar over my shoulders. “Eh…” she squeaks out as if thinking about whether it’s true or not. “I mean, you can’t blame me, Charlie, that song is really good.” She shrugs her shoulders then and gets behind the counter for the broom. “One, two, three!” Owen counts us in once we’re all ready to go, and off we go again with the same song. But I don’t mind though, it’s for Emily. And it’s adorable how much she loves this song. She can even sing along now. Just like last week, she sings along during the bridge, which doesn’t even surprise me anymore. I just love hearing her voice blended with ours. “You know you have this cute thing you do with your leg when you’re playing?” she asks me when we finish the song. My eyebrows knit together as I look down at my leg as if I’d see it now that we’ve stopped playing. “What do I do with my leg?” She imitates me, pumping her leg forwards ever so often. “I don’t do that with my leg!” I scoff, not entirely sure if it’s actually true or if I should be offended, for that matter. “Yeah, you do,” all three of them reply, but not at the same time. My mouth drops open in shock. “I do not!” The words come out in some sort of a squeak, my voice failing on me a little. “You do,” Emily mouths to me while Jeremy places his bass on the stand for a break. “Hey, Emsie-girl,” he captures all of our attention, mostly with the nickname. “Have you decided if you’ll join Sunset Curve or not?” She did ask for a week exactly a week ago. I’d almost forgotten. Emily’s mouth opens like she’s going to say something, all three of us staring, awaiting her response. “I mean, is it a good idea with me and Charlie…” she asks carefully. “Why would that change anything?” I shoot back, a little offended she’ll use our relationship as a reason not to join our band. “Fleetwood Mac? ABBA? They split up because they couldn’t work together anymore due to break-ups between each other and stuff…” “So, you’re thinking we’re going to break up too?” I ask, a little offended. “No!” she responds instantly. “No, I just… I don’t know, Charlie…” I walk up to her, my guitar still strapped across my torso, and grab her hand in mine. “If you want to join the band, we could just try it, okay? If it becomes even a little straining to what we have, we’ll quit,” I propose to her. “Quit what? Us or the band?” she whispers, not wanting the boys to hear and be offended too. “The band,” I reply in the same whisper. “Hey! We heard that!” Jeremy chimes in again. Emily and I look up for a second, decide to ignore it and turn back to each other. “So, what’s it going to be, Ems?” I look at her with hopeful eyes. Hopeful she’ll say yes. Hopeful I finally get to write songs with her and actually sing them too. “Uhm… Yeah, sure. I’ll join Sunset Curve!” The boys and I all erupt into loud cheers. I give her a kiss on the cheek and then trade my electric guitar for an acoustic one. I know exactly what this moment asks for. “Sunset Curve is reborn!” Owen throws his hands into the air. I strum my guitar, a melody flowing out of the instrument in my hands. “Come on, Jeremy!” Owen says and starts tapping his own body. A bit of body percussion thrown into it, perfect. “One, two, three, four,” he counts us in, and Jeremy begins to sing whilst Emily goes back to cleaning up the store. “Can you, can you hear me” “Yup, loud and clear!” Emily says in a normal tone, totally ruining the vibe a little. “Gotta get, gotta get ready,” Jeremy goes again. “'Cause it's been years,” I sing. “I mean…” Comes from Emily again. I give her a glare and then start following her around the store. “Oh, this band is back,” Jeremy sings, joining me in the chase of Emily. “Oh, this band is back,” we all sing together and Owen shuffles behind us in tow, still tapping his own body. “Whoo, ooh, ooh, ooh Whoo, ooh, ooh, ooh Whoo, ooh, ooh, ooh” Emily stops at the sheet music station, grabs a couple of sheets and then moves back to the piano with her entourage behind her. “Can you” “Yes, we can,” Emily and I now sing together. At least she’s singing now. “Can you hear me,” Owen and Jeremy go. “Loud and clear!” “We gotta get,” “Wanna get,” “We gotta get ready” “'Cause it's been years, hey” Our voices blend together nicely. Especially with Emily’s voice harmonizing with ours. “Oh, this band is back Oh, this band is back Whoo, ooh, ooh, ooh Whoo, ooh, ooh, ooh Whoo, ooh, ooh, ooh Whoo, ooh, wee, ooh!” The boys and I then start scatting – or trying to, earning a weird glance from Emily. “I cannot scat,” I say, but continue anyway. “No, you cannot,” Emily replies teasingly. She shoots me a teasing smile my way too, and I nearly melt on the spot. This girl is honestly going to be the death of me someday.

Order up!!!
Alright so here’s what I had written for this before I dropped the project to focus on TLC and then swapped to the Mermaid Plot instead for Hattie’s parents
I also included the Synop I originally wrote when it was gonna be posted on Ao3 if I finished it
So A Time Traveler, her older inter-dimensional Demon brother, and a lawyer walk into a Cafe---
Arulius Law was a tired law student trying his best to manage school work and his Controlling girlfriend Vanessa. His life changed when a girl's dog ran into him in the park! Meeting that same girl again when walking home, he got dragged through a time rift and the two are trying to fix the matter together!
“Damnit, Damion! HEEL!” The young woman shouted as she ran after the great dane.
The poor young man who sat below the tree looked up a moment too late as he was barreled into by the slobbering pooch. He coughed as the dog placed its tongue all over him, covering him in drool. He wiped his face as the dog was abruptly pulled off of him by the very angry looking girl.
“Bad Dog!” She chided, clicking the chain around his neck, “Honestly I shift hands for five seconds to answer my phone and you book it!” she sighed, holding a hand to the young man while tightly holding the dog’s leash in the other, “Sorry About that Sir.”
He took her hand, standing upright and dusting off. She blinked in shock as he stood above her, not having expected him to be so tall.
“It’s fine. He spoke in a deep voice, unbefitting of his thin frame, “I chose a bad spot to study!” he laughed it off, cackling.
She began to laugh with him, placing her hand on her hip, “Still, I should have had a better grip on him. Sorry about it.”
“No one but the bacteria on my face got hurt, so I don’t see any need to apologize.” he cracked his back stretching, “I needed to get up for class anyway.” he checked his watch, “I have a lecture in about 20 minutes. Perfect time to get a coffee.”
“How About I treat you?” She offered, “Since he did take your kisses.” She snickered a bit. She brushed a loose strand of black hair behind her ear.
He thought about it for a moment. Vanessa wouldn’t mind, right? It was just a coffee as an apology?
He sighed, “yeah sure.” he grinned, “Anything for bean water.”
“Rad.” She smiled, sharp teeth peeking when she did, “Lead the way!” She laughed.
He grabbed his backpack from the grass, shoving his open books into it and began to walk towards the west of the park, “There’s a nice cafe this way owned by a lovely screaming couple. Dead bird Cafe.” he explained as they walked, “one of the owners is this older gentleman who’s always screaming, but he makes the best dark roast ever.” he grinned.
“Dead bird Cafe,” she repeated thinking about it. She snickered, “So that’s how it is.” She giggled brushing her thick hair behind her ear only to have it bush back. She groaned, “I need a haircut.”
“I feel you on that.” He laughed loudly, brushing his own back, “My girlfriend likes my hair long though so I leave it.” he sighed, “Long curly hair on a legal defendant doesn’t look good. I feel I look so unkempt.”
“If you want unkempt try having these cowlicks!” she chuckled as she ran a finger through the shorter parts of her hair, “At least yours looks on length! I can’t get mine to grow more than a weird mullet!” She sighed heavily, the dog she was walking barking his two cents. The two laughed as they made it to the western disco cafe.
She paused outside, trying to withhold a laugh, “What is this decor?!” She was holding her stomach as she laughed, bright blue eyes watering.
“Yes it…. It is a little. Different.” he admitted opening the door, “Let me see if your dog can come in.” He headed inside, “Conrad?” he asked as he walked in, “DJ?”
“Aye if it ain't the bean pole! What canne aye getcha today?” the golden-haired man asked as he was wiping out a cup. He sat behind the counter, looking out the door. The young woman was busy talking on her phone, seeming visibly upset over something. “Who’s the lassie? You finally cut it off with Vanessa?”
He shook his head, “No, NO! Perish the thought Conrad!” he chuckled, “Her dog tackled me in the park, she offered to pay for my coffee as an apology, but we can’t just tie a great dane who got loose once outside. I couldn’t recall if you’re pet friendly.”
He frowned, “Well technically we’re nawt. But we only opened a lil bit ago so no one is here yet, so.” He shrugged, “As the owner I say fine.” He laughed, “You can go tell her, Arulius.”
“Thanks!” he waved heading to the door, “He said it’s okay.” He tilted his head as she was frowning, creasing her brow heavily, “Are you okay?”
“Huh?” She blinked, snapping back, “Oh yeah I’m fine! My brother was just being really annoying!” she admitted, “Apparently he found something I have to go look at when he gets out of class.” She dropped her shoulders defeated, “Today was MEANT to be a relaxing day.”
“I get you.” he patted the top of her head. His eyes lit up surprised, “Your hair is very soft!” He stated. He had it to be coarser.
She turned a bit red, “O-Oi!” She pushed past through the coffee shop door, “It’s because I just dyed it! The conditioner makes it softer!” she flushed bright red, “G-Get your bean water!” She pointed to the menu looking it over.
He followed her back inside with a very loud laugh. She jolted as he cackled, her grip tightening on the dog. Her eyes were wide as she thought about it and covered her face, “Ah. So. you.” she was mumbling and he couldn’t figure her last words.
“Hrm?” he tilted his head, “Conrad I’d like my usual please, extra-large.” He ordered.
“Aye Figured.” the old man laughed, the sound similar bird cawing, “An’ for ya lassie?”
“Oh, Um.” she was scrutinizing the board, “I.. Actually don’t know.” she admitted, “I don’t drink coffee so I don’t know what’s good. I don’t like Bitter.”
“What about a cafe latte then?” Arulius offered, “it has a lot of milk and creamer in it so it’s sweeter than a normal coffee.”
“Is that so..” she mused as she tugged on the dogs lead, “Okay!” she smiled. He hadn’t imagined it earlier. He couldn’t help noticing her canines were very oversized.
“So a Death Macchiato and a Cafe Latte.” The older gentleman hopped off his bar stool. He barely stood taller than the counter.
“Don’t!” Arulius warned seeing her eyes go wide. He stood in front of her to whisper, “Do not laugh! He’ll put SALT in your drink!”
She was doing her best to not laugh, “I won’t, I won’t!” her voice cracked as she whispered. She covered her mouth in her hands.
“You are doing a bad job!” he snickered at her.
“I Know!” she wheezed and leaned against his back, “I wasn’t prepared! Ahh.” she sighed, taking a deep breath, “I’m cool, it’s cool!” she grinned widely showing off those odd teeth, “See It’s cool!”
“Well if ye are cool the coffee is hot.” The man put the two cups on the counter, steam rising off of them, “Drink up, it’ll be 12.50 pons lassie!”
“Oh good, it is still pons.” She sighed relieved as she pulled out her wallet and paid for the drinks. She took hers and handed off the other, “Cheers.” she smirked. She patted the dog’s head.
They tapped their cups together, taking a  sip as they exited the establishment. Yup that was a Death Macchiato. He sighed happily intaking the illegal amount of pure espresso and a hint of cream with a sigh of relief, “Ah I live.”
“Do you?” she asked with a cheeky grin. She sipped on her own, “I don’t hate it. But coffee is still too bitter.”
“You think so?” he asked as they walked towards the campus. He froze, “Are you going here too?” he asked worriedly.
“No, I’m just meeting my brother.” She admitted, “He works here.” she shrugged, “he won’t get out for a bit, so I was just going to finish walking Damion and return him to his owner.”
“Oh, it’s not your dog?” He blinked at her, he was sure it was.
“Nope! I just walk him for his owner.” She gave another shrug, “I have to earn money somehow and it’s hard when you didn’t finish High School and have no trade skills.”
“Why not get your GED or something?” he pondered as they headed towards the history building, “are you following me the whole way?”
“Why not?” she asked with a sly grin, “Actually, I just don’t..” she paused thinking about the next choice of words, “don’t have time for it.”
“But you can dog walk, and escort a student to class?” he raised a brow.
“One day off does not make for a full set of classes.” she pointed out, “And I’m not worried, I mostly do this because I enjoy it.”
Standing on the building's edge she gave him a small bow, “have a good time in class, Arulius!” She grinned, turning heel and running off in her bright blue sneakers, the dog keeping pace as they vanished before he could respond.
He sighed waving and headed inside, setting his books down he froze.
He never told her his name.
-----
“Good work today class!” the teacher clapped his hands together, he wheeled around the classroom, picking up the students papers. “Remember Thursday is a test day! Time waits for no one, so please make sure to study!” he laughed as he rolled up to Arulius’s desk, “As for you, I know you are trying to succeed, but please when I say 6-10 pages, I only mean 10 max.” he  grabbed the hefty stack from the desk, “Also when will you start typing your reports, Mr. law?”
“When Vanessa gives my laptop back?” he shrugged, rubbing his neck. “Sorry, I just really like writing them out.”
The grey-haired man sighed, tapping the other’s head with the stack, “use the computer lab next time.” the other students filed out of the classroom.
Arulius packed his bag up, pulling his phone out he sighed at all the texts Vanessa had left him. Typing back he shrugged the straps over his shoulder. He started his walk home with a disgruntled sigh. He couldn’t get a single day without her freaking out. What did he have to tell her to make her believe he wasn’t doing anything suspicious. He literally went to class, home, and the cafe.
He blinked as he watched the girl from that morning scoot by him into the classroom. He almost hadn’t noticed but she smelt heavily of pine as she cut by him.
“Sena!” She shouted as she headed inside with a wide grin, “Ready?” She asked as she stood on the back of his wheelchair, leaning over him.
“Oh more than. I’m getting sore.” he admitted with a laugh, “I know this was your day off but Tim said it was a pretty bad one. Friend was even worried.”
“Yeah. yeah.” she sighed and ruffled her hair. She turned towards the door giving the young man a wave, “Hi Again!”
“Oh. Uh right hi!” he waved back sheepishly as he turned to leave, having felt his face turn red. He couldn’t believe he got caught staring. He sighed looking back. So that was her brother. Weird. He didn’t recall his teacher ever mentioning any family. But then again it was his teacher. He felt his phone go off again. He started to run home with a heavy sigh.
-----
“So. Is it a violet, blue, red, green?” She asked as she closed the classroom door. She looked at her brother with a tilted head.
“Hold on. Let me just.” he pushed up on the wheelchair, his legs dissolving in an almost pixelated fashion as his skin turned light blue. His face rearranging into a more alien state, his head changing shape. He shook his head as he finished shifting and floating around her, “I love teaching but holding a human form gets so tiring. Plus the whole I don’t actually have legs thing.” he grumbled floating around her. He snapped his fingers so his chair folded up vanishing in a mass of red threads.
“Feeling better now you can stretch a little?” She chuckled as she raised her hand to reach into the air. It shimmered as her hand vanished, reappearing holding an hourglass.
“Oh much better. Also what was with you and Mr. Law?” he raised his brow curiously as he took the hourglass from her.
“Oh, Arulius?” She sighed, “The dog I was walking this morning jumped him.” She admitted, “I treated him to coffee as a sorry. You know. He reminded me a lot of that one shadow demon we met years ago.”
“You think so?” He tilted his head this time, clearly a family trait.
“His laughter.” she admitted with a big grin, “Also I totally found that old Firespirit! He runs a coffee shop! A far cry from a studio!”
“Well, that does happen when you jump dimensions as often as we do. Somethings get mixed around.” he shrugged as he flipped the glass, red threads around it as he did. “Though I highly doubt that Mr. Law is the Snatcher…” he frowned, “Actually, no. You may be right.” he sighed, “well let’s hope he meets a better fate here.”
“You going to steal his corpse?” She teased as she reached out a blue flame covering the red threads.
“You steal a prince’s body once and you never live it down!” he wheezed. “Almost got it!” he held his hands up, “Alright! I think we’re good for a jump!”
“Onward!” She grinned as she took the hourglass back and flipped it around, the air shifting as things began to rewind, the two of them standing still as folks moved around them as if in a movie.
“How far back?” She asked as she held the glass steady.
“About a day and OH!” he stopped her, the rift shimmering as they paused the world around them by turning the glass on its side. “There it is!” He pointed towards a shimmering crimson toned orb that floated above the students in the classroom.
“Oh booo. I hate red rifts.” She huffed as she got up on a desk reaching out.
“Wait Eclipse!” Sena shouted but it was too late, her foot brushed Arulius’s face as he sat at his desk righting. He blinked looking around confused. The trio was pulled into the orb with a fizzing noise. The world resumed without them.
----
“Uh...Uhh..” Arulius looked around as they stood on the ceiling in a rocky temple.
Eclipse was holding her head ashamed while he looked around. He winced as he felt blood from his nose, leaking down his face towards his mouth despite the way they stood.
“How do I explain this to Tim?!” she fretted as she held her head in her hands, “Sena! What do we do?!” she gasped.
The demon was looking around, inspecting the stonework, “Nothing can be done right now. We need to locate what caused this rift, be it a timepiece or something else. Since it’s a red one, that means there could be an escaped horizon lurker.”
“Sena! I think this is a little more pressing! Oh no.” She saw his nose bleeding and reached to wipe it, “Damnit.” she groaned, “I’m so sorry!”
“I’m just.” He was trying to figure what was going on. His head was pounding and his stomach lurched, “urp.” he covered his mouth with his hands as he paled trying to keep his lunch down.
A loud roar filled the air and she groaned, “Damnit. It is a Horizon lurker. Sena.” she held her hand out.
“Right.” the demon reached and grabbed the threads that materialized around his fingers and a golden halberd with a star theme formed from the threads. She took it and looked at the poor law student.
“Sena why don’t you stay with him. I’ll go get the timepiece.” she looked at him apologetically, “Sorry about this, Ru. I promise it’ll be like a bad dream when this is over!”  She jumped from the ceiling landing on the ground and running off.
He could only stare in shock as he fell to his knees. He paused, “Sena…” he looked at the demon who was holding his hands and fretting, “Mr. Nightingale?” he asked quietly.
“Yes Um hello.” he waved with a low chuckle. He laced his fingers together and took human form, however he was standing upright as he rubbed his neck annoyed, “look this is just as weird for me!” he sighed heavily, “Dear Mother Moon. That girl I swear is always a wreck no matter which dimension I find her.” he grimaced and looked down, “We can make you forget this ever happened so don’t fret so much. Think of it like.” he waved his scarred hands around looking for the words, “well as Ammy said, a bad dream.”
“Ammy?” Arulius stared even more confused.
“Oh um. It’s my nickname for Eclipse.” the demon scratched his cheek and sat down beside the law student as he thought about the matter, “I should have activated the rift but she was so hurried. I know she has a quota to make but.” he stopped hearing a roar and a loud whooping noise, “seems she found the lurker.” he leaned on his hand and rapped his fingers on the stonework nervously, “please let her handle it without injury.” he begged.
Arulius stared, “what are you exactly?” he reached a hand to touch the smooth surface of the demon’s head.

Miss Winston’s Reply: A Play
Illustrations by Susan McAliley
Found in the July/August 1996 issue of American Girl Magazine
(These pictures were originally submitted by @captainandhercorgi, but then it turned out in the time between the original submission & me finally posting it, @in-pleasant-company posted some clean scans! To save myself from having to type out all the tags again in a reblog, I opted to re-save in-pleasant-company’s scans and add them to this photoset)
Since it seems like the American Girl magazine plays featuring the historical characters were never republished anywhere, I typed out a transcript of this play! You can read the whole thing below!
Miss Winston’s Reply: A Play
~1854~
Written by Janet Saw
Illustrated by Susan McAliley
Scene: Outside the Larson’s log cabin in Minnesota in September 1855
(Mama and Miss Winston are seated close together on a bench, rolling yarn into balls. Kirsten, Lisbeth, and Anna sit on the ground in front of the bench. They’re playing quietly with their dolls. Kristen’s doll is lying down. The girls walk the other dolls around her.)
Mama: (to Miss Winston) Mr. Boardman will be here any moment. Aren’t you excited?
Miss Winston: (glancing nervously over her shoulder) Oh, dear!
Mama: He’s been to see you so often lately.
Miss Winston: I know!
Mama: Today he might ask you to marry him.
Miss Winston: Oh, I hope not. Not today!
Mama: Why not today?
Miss Winston: Because – well, because I don’t know how I’d answer him.
(Kirsten overhears Miss Winston. She shushes Lisbeth and Anna, and the girls stop their play to listen eagerly to the women.)
Mama: But he’s a fine man. He’d be a good husband. You do care for him, don’t you?
Miss Winston: Yes, I do care for him. I care for him very much.
Mama: Then why don’t you want to marry him?
Miss Winston: I do want to marry him, but I don’t want to move away. I feel at home here now. And I’m afraid he wants to settle out in California.
Mama: Settle in California? That’s a surprise! Has he said he plans to move there?
Miss Winston: No, not exactly, but his brother’s panning for gold in California. I suspect he plans to join his brother.
Kirsten: (unable to contain herself any longer) Miss Winston, why don’t you ask him what his plans are?
Anna: Yes! Ask him!
Mama: Hush, now, you girls! You’re too young to understand these things.
Miss Winston: Let me try to explain. You see, a lady doesn’t ask a gentleman about his plans. That wouldn’t be proper.
Lisbeth: But why, Miss Winston?
Miss Winston: Let me put it this way—a question about plans is too forward.
Anna: Forward? Is that like being bold?
Miss Winston: Yes, Anna, bold. It’s not proper to ask personal questions of a man.
Kirsten: Not ever, Miss Winston?
Miss Winston: Well, not until the couple decide to marry. I mean….oh, it’s all so hard to talk about!
Mama: You girls ask too many questions. Go back to your dolls. What game are you playing today?
Kristen: We’re playing that Sari is sick.
Mama: (playing along) Poor Sari!
(Miss Winston bends over and picks up Sari)
Miss Winston: (also playing along) She doesn’t look well.
Lisbeth: We think it’s her stomach.
Anna: She moans and cried.
Kirsten: But she won’t tell us what’s wrong with her.
Miss Winston: (shaking her finger sternly at the doll) Listen here, Miss. If you won’t tell what troubles you, how can anyone help?
(Miss Winston hands Sari back to Kirsten)
Mama: We’d better put away our work. Mr. Boardman will be here shortly.
Miss Winston: I’ve got butterflies in my stomach! I’m so nervous. I just don’t know what to do!
Mama: I think what you should do right now is put on your fresh blouse.
(Mama and Miss Winston pick up their yarn and EXIT.)
(The girls jump happily to their feet)
Kirsten: I’m so glad Miss Winston doesn’t want to leave Minnesota!
Lisbeth: I thought she’d want to move back to her family in Maine.
Anna: I think Mr. Boardman’s so handsome. I hope he asks her to marry him!
(Anna clasps her hands and goes down on one knee in from of Kirsten)
Anna: Please give me your hand in marriage!
Kirsten: (seriously) But if he does ask her to marry him, what will her answer be?
Anna: She’ll say yes!
Lisbeth: (frowning) She might say no. You heard her say she’s worried about moving to California.
Kirsten: But she hasn’t told Mr. Boardman what she’s worried about.
Lisbeth: So if Miss Winston refuses to marry him, he won’t know why.
Anna: (picking up Sari and climbing to her feet) If Sari doesn’t tell what’s troubling her, how can anyone help? It’s the same for Miss Winston, isn’t it?
Kirsten: Yes. She should say what she’s feeling.
Lisbeth: Isn’t there some way we can help her say what’s in her heart?
Anna: You heard what Mama said—“You’re too young to understand these things.” Grown-ups won’t listen to what we say.
Kirsten: Maybe they won’t listen to us, but I’ve got an idea!
(The girls bring their dolls and crouch behind the bush. Kirsten whispers and Anna and Lisbeth nod. In a few moments, Mr. Boardman enters from one side and Miss Winston enters from the other.)
Mr. Boardman: Good day, Miss Winston.
Miss Winston: (shyly) Good day, Mr. Boardman.
(Mr. Boardman and Miss Winston sit nervously on the bench. They don’t notice the girls, who are peeking over the bush.)
Mr. Boardman and Miss Winston: (at the same time) How are you?
(Mr. Boardman and Miss Winston laugh, embarrassed)
Mr. Boardman and Miss Winston: (at the same time) Fine, thank you.
(The girls giggle silently)
(Mr. Boardman takes an envelope form his jacket pocket and hands it to Miss Winston.)
Mr. Boardman: The storekeeper asked me to bring this letter to you.
Miss Winston: (taking the letter) Thank you. It’s from my father in Maine.
Mr. Boardman: I saw that it was. Your family must miss you terribly.
Miss Winston: And I miss them too.
Lisbeth: (whispering) Now’s the time to try your plan, Kirsten!
(Kirsten and Anna move closer to center stage, sit with their backs to the bush, and present the dolls are talking to each other.)
Kirsten: (In a high voice, as if her doll is speaking) I’m so glad you’ve come today!
Anna: (In a low voice, as if her doll is a man) I’m so glad you’ve invited me.
Mr. Boardman: Why, it’s Kirsten and her cousin. What do you suppose they’re doing?
Miss Winston: (Smiling) Oh, they’ve been playing with their dolls all day. They act out all sorts of stories with them. They have such strong imaginations.
Kirsten: (In a high voice) I’ve looked forward so much to seeing you.
Anna: (forgetting to lower her voice) Me, too!
Kirsten: (whispering to Anna) Remember, your doll is supposed to be Mr. Boardman! Don’t forget to keep your voice low, like a man’s.
Anna: (in a low voice) I mean—and I’ve looked forward to seeing you.
Kirsten: (In a high voice) Isn’t this a lovely day?
Anna: (In a low voice) It’s you who are lovely, my dear.
Mr. Boardman: (shaking his head) What will these girls think of next?
Miss Winston: (nervously) I think they’re pretending their dolls are courting. I’ve never heard them play this game before. We shouldn’t listen.
Mr. Boardman: But I like what I hear. The doll is saying what I’m thinking. You are lovely, Miss Winston.
Miss Winston: Oh, Mr. Boardman!
(The girls are delighted)
Lisbeth: (whispering) Keep going!
Kirsten: (in a high voice) Just look around. Isn’t the prairie beautiful today? The waving grass reminds me of the ocean waves back home.
Anna: (In a low voice) It would be wonderful to live by the sea. You must be homesick for it.
Kirsten: (In a high voice) I do miss it sometimes, but my life is here now.
Miss Winston: (softly) How strange. The doll is saying what I’m thinking too.
Mr. Boardman: What are you thinking, my dear?
Miss Winston: I’m thinking how I love the prairie. I can’t imagine living anywhere else now.
Mr. Boardman: But I’ve always thought you wanted to go back to Maine!
Miss Winston: I’ve never said that!
Mr. Boardman: No, you didn’t. And I never asked because I was afraid of what you might say.
(The girls are delighted)
Lisbeth: (whispering) Kirsten, it’s your turn again!
Kirsten: (in a high voice) Do you like it here in Minnesota?
Anna: (forgetting to lower her voice) Oh, yes.
Lisbeth: (pinching Anna’s arm) Your doll’s Mr. Boardman!
Anna: (in her own voice) Ouch!
Anna: (in a low voice again) I mean, ouch!
Miss Winston: (her gaze on Mr. Boardman) I’ve thought you planned to go to California.
Mr. Boardman: (startled) Go to California?
Miss Winston: Yes, to join your brother. I’ve thought you planned to live there.
Mr. Boardman: Not at all. I never said that.
Miss Winston: No, you didn’t. I suspected it, but I never asked because I didn’t think it was proper.
Mr. Boardman: (taking Miss Winston’s hand) My life is here, believe me.
Miss Winston: I do believe you!
(Kirsten and Anna scramble to join Lisbeth, and all three girls peek over the bush at the couple.)
Miss Winston: We didn’t say what was in our hearts, so we’ve both been worrying about the wrong things.
Mr. Boardman: It’s true! And there’s something else in my heart that I want to tell you. Come walk with me, please.
(Mr. Boardman offers Miss Winston his arm and they EXIT.)
(The girls jump to their feet in excitement.)
Lisbeth: Kirsten, your plan worked. Now he’ll ask her!
Anna: (in a low voice) Oh, please, please, Miss Winston, will you be my wife?
Kirsten: (in her own voice) I will! I will! I will!
(The girls hug one another in triumph and delight).

*title from the song of the same name by ricky montgomery and based on this post from @weirdcursedvaultkid*
i | ii | iii
he’s singing, "she's a, she's a lady, and I am just a line without a hook"
year one
Everything is bigger than she imagined.
The walls are much higher, the tables longer, Dumbledore’s podium taller. She takes a look up to the ceiling and finds that there is no roof. Constellations freckle and connect across the dark expanse of space above her. The number of floating candles about burn brightly enough to trick her eyes into believing that there are even more stars all around her.
She’s trapped somewhere in the middle of the group, surrounded on every side by the anonymous and mesmerized faces of strangers. Rowan is nowhere to be found and suddenly she feels very, very alone.
Once or twice she catches herself looking around for Jacob. His familiar bush of messy brown hair and bright sparkling jade eyes. The easy smile he always gave her that made everything feel better.
But he is no longer there.
The reminder of what she’s lost has her head spinning. She can hear her heart pumping in her ears and feels the beat of its rhythm in her temples. Things were supposed to be different. He was supposed to be here—
Something prickles at the edges of her awareness, the burning phantom of a stare somewhere just off to the side of her peripheral. Slowly, her head turns to her left, her focus still settled on the mass number of identical black shoes. Whoever is staring at her doesn’t move, nor do they look away, and Rebekah chances a glance up to their eyes.
Not a lot registers for her once she finally sees his face. The only thing she can focus on is the warmth that radiates from him in gentle waves. Thankfully, she does not have to crane her head up very far to look him in the eye and for a moment she forgets why she was afraid.
Because he is even more so.
Shakily, he turns away and goes back to trying not to catch anyone’s attention. His cheeks burn a soft shade of red and Rebekah thinks that, just for a minute, maybe things won’t be so bad.
Another name is called from the platform the tall woman stands on, but Rebekah’s mind is elsewhere and it sounds fuzzy on the ends. She does not catch it. However, her attention piques when the boy moves.
His steps up to the chair are hesitant, small strides. His eyes flicker about for a few seconds before he screws them shut. Gryffindor, the hat says, earning it many a baffled expression from its audience, the boy included. And unlike many others, the boy does not rejoice. He simply shuffles his way to the table where he is greeted with a number of questioning looks and a handful of upturned noses.
Gryffindor, the hat had declared with certainty—and dare Rebekah wonder: are hats able to smirk?—it's got to be Gryffindor.
Tumblr media
It’s a joke that I got put in Gryffindor, the boy—Ben—said to her later the next day, his eyes low and downcast. I’m scared of everything.
Everyone is afraid of something, she offered as what she hoped was a small piece of solace. He regarded her as if he did not believe her words to be true, but was hopeful enough to imagine it anyway. And as he did, the corners of his lips curved up into a wishful smile.
The sight itself washed over Rebekah like a remedy, lightening her shoulders and easing the lump in her throat in a single swift movement. She smiled back, transforming the one on his face into something much more dazzling, yet still soft around the edges as his eyes shone a dark amber in the morning sun.
It was then that she realized that was the first time she had smiled since stepping into this large and looming and grandiose castle. All because of someone else's dream.
She hoped, then, to make a habit out of it.
Tumblr media
Ben crouches down to be level with Rebekah as she sits on the lip of the fountain, his eyes roaming her figure for any sign of pain or injury. His own qualms forgotten, he no longer seems to notice the ripening bruise on his own arm or the gathering crowd around them.
Are you okay? He asks carefully, his brows furrowed into a knot and an exaggerated frown pulling at his mouth. She didn’t really hurt you, did she?
Rebekah blinks for a moment, her thoughts drawing a quick blank at the sight of his worry. Around them, she can hear the whispering of students who care little for hiding it. They point and gossip and Rebekah isn’t sure if they’re talking about her or them but either way, it makes her skin crawl.
Concern flashes across his eyes for a moment before he looks around and remembers himself, his cheeks pinking a little to match hers. His hand ghosts over her forearm as if unsure where to put it or what to do with it.
Don’t worry about them, Ben whispers almost to himself, but just loud enough for her to share in the secret. His hand balls into a fist before finally settling back to his side and Rebekah isn’t sure if she’s thankful or disappointed. You were amazing.
This does not do well for her fair complexion as his words only deepen the blush on her face and she quickly drops her gaze in an attempt to hide it. A beat passes and neither of them speak. Idly, she wonders where Rowan has gone off to, before Ben opens his mouth to respond.
His voice is hushed and soft, light and mostly air as he informs, They… they aren’t saying anything mean. In fact, they seem happy that you knocked Merula down a peg. At this, Rebekah shrinks a little, their blatant attention burning holes into her skin. Ben hesitates before shifting in his place to block her from view.
You don’t like the attention? He guesses to which Rebekah can only nod. Ben returns the gesture, but his shoulders seem to loosen up at her answer.
He goes for what she thinks is meant to be a comforting smile. It works. Me neither.
A spot on her elbow tingles with heat as she looks back up to face him, only to realize that his hand has moved from its place by his side to settle there instead. From the way he relaxes slightly as he continues in his original task of making sure she is okay, Rebekah can only assume that he has not noticed. She decides not to comment on it.
It seems, though, that their short moment of serenity was not meant to last very long as a flash of long, flimsy black robes and tiny circle rimmed glasses peek into her vision as their charms and potions professors make their way over to the group of gathered first years.
At once, Rowan throws her an apologetic look from her place by Flitwick’s side, clearly having been the one to alert him. Rebekah shakes her head in a silent display of forgiveness as her and Ben stand to greet them.
Somehow, Rebekah finds that she feels strangely complacent. She helped her friend today and for that she will never apologize.
Tumblr media
His grip turns his knuckles white as the wind rakes its fingers through the short strands of his hair. Even over the whistling of the wind in his ears, Ben can hear the rapid beating of his own heart in his chest, though it feels suspiciously closer to his throat for his liking.
How is it possible that he is flying? Briefly, his mind flickers back to the cartoon witches he used to see plastered in storybooks. At once, he is reminded again that this new world is not the ‘fabrication of his own overactive imagination’, as his parents used to tell him when he complained about the ghost in the attic.
Faintly, the sound of excited clapping drifts up to him and instinct forces his eyes back open. Anxiety is quick on his heels as he immediately finds himself looking down to the ground below him, but something else stands out against the stark green backdrop of grass.
Rebekah stands, the only student to remain on the ground, her head craned upward to peer at him. Her eyes, kind and curious and sparkling as though home to their very own galaxy, are trained intently on him.
She follows his every movement against the wind, every turn of his broom is caught with enthusiasm. The Ravenclaw pulses with pure and unadulterated excitement and Ben finds himself drawing energy from her and she jumps on her feet, waving up at him with the widest smile Ben has ever seen adorn her face. Strands of her ink black hair fly into her eyes, but she does not seem to mind, content with simply cheering him on.
In that moment, it does not escape Ben’s notice that the sight, though infinitely welcome, only serves to quicken his heart rate until it begins to race even faster than before.
Tumblr media
His eyes have gone starry, glossed over in faint astonishment as Rebekah tells her story. She can feel her lips moving, her vocal cords vibrating in tandem, but as she looks at him she finds that she cannot hear herself speak.
Her cheeks feel hot.
She finishes and Ben grins, it’s giddy and goofy and Rebekah can’t help but offer him one of her own in return.
Wow, he whispers, his eyes glued not to the vast galactic sky that they can afford to see clearly in their place up in the astronomy tower, but to her. I can’t believe Dumbledore actually took special notice of a first year!
Rebekah chuckles and rubs at her wrist bashfully. It’s not like I gave him much of a choice, she whispers back.
At this he simply shakes his head and strangely, he looks as if there’s nowhere else he’d rather be. His smile does not falter, his big brown eyes bright. No, he says, It’s impossible not to notice you.
Tumblr media
She’s not ready for it to end.
She’s not ready to return home, to a still and empty house where her parents never laugh and no one ever smiles. She does not want to walk to her room everyday where she has to pass by Jacob’s, untouched and void and not at all the same. She’s not ready to see their faces or look into their eyes and be struck again with the realization that she is not enough.
She’s not ready to continue in a life without her brother.
But as the train whistles in her ears and the breeze blows flower petals into her hair, she knows the choice is not hers. Slowly, she shuffles her way off the platform and wraps her arms delicately around Rowan, the dark strands of her hair tickling her nose.
Her friend grins so wide Rebekah fears her cheeks will sting and giggles out a last goodbye, accompanied with a merry promise to keep in touch. A voice sounds from behind her and Rowan waves her off, skipping over to her family with a youthfulness Rebekah has never seen in her before.
She watches them go with a growing lump in her throat.
She checks her watch.
“Rebekah.”
This time, his voice is small, yet as it curls around the syllables of her name she finds that it is no less affectionate than it always is. The girl turns, her eyes catching his for what feels scarily like the last time.
“Ben—”
He grins when he hears her as if on nothing more than instinct alone and the thought twists a smile onto her own lips as well.
“—I was wondering if I’d see you.”
“Well, here I am.”
“There you are.”
The sun shines above them and under its gracious attention, Ben’s hair glimmers a more golden color as it flickers in the breeze, landing softly against his forehead. Had Rebekah been older or more poetic, she might have equated it to something like gold or freshly bloomed daffodils.
But alas the thought escapes her.
He clears his throat.
“I don’t think I’ll have much downtime when I get back. Mum and Dad will probably have enough questions to last them until the summer is over, but…” His cheeks pink and he rubs at the back of his neck. “I’ll write to you,” He promises. “When I can.”
And with that, he does his best to lift his chin and walk away, leaving her behind. Yet, as she watches him embrace a woman with white-blonde hair and a tall man with a smile just like his, Rebekah can’t seem to muster a single dour thought. She only smiles and waves at him as he stalks away even if he is no longer paying attention.
Tumblr media
A gust of hot hair rushes over him as his father opens the door to leave, but something itches at the back of his head and he turns around.
But she is already gone.

Chapter 3: Flowers
Adrien ran out of the car, into the mansion, and up to his room. He slammed the door behind him and sank to the floor.
Visions of two raven-haired girls swirled around his head. He had difficulty distinguishing one face from the other. It was almost as if they were the same person, and his futile attempts to separate the two personalities were starting to give him a headache.
There were too many thoughts running through his mind, and he was finding it hard to focus. “Ladybug loves me, but I love Marinette. No...that’s not right. Marinette loves me, but I love Ladybug. But I also love Marinette. Is it love? It must be...it feels the same. At least it does now. But it didn’t yesterday...or did it? No, that was Ladybug, not Marinette. Why do they have the same eyes?”
Adrien was ready to scream.
An outside force gently tugged his hair, causing him to look up. Adrien locked eyes with his concerned-looking Kwami.
“Hey, kid,” the tiny being said softly, “You okay?”
“Plagg, I need to get out of here,” Adrien groaned, “I feel like I’m suffocating.”
“Well, luckily for you, you have a magical ring that grants you the ability to leave this room whenever you want.”
“Where would I even go?”
“Where do you want to be right now?”
“With her.”
Adrien didn't even know which “her” he was referring to. Nothing made sense anymore.
Plagg landed on his shoulder. “Since that’s not exactly possible at the moment, what’s the next best thing?”
“You’re being unusually nice today.” Adrien squinted. “What’s in it for you?”
“I’d really like it if you didn’t get Akumatized.”
Adrien reached out and scratched his Kwami on the head. “Aww, you do care.”
“I never said that I didn’t. Besides, who would give me cheese if you started destroying Paris?”
“And there it is.”
Plagg threw his arms into the air. “Cheese is important.”
“To you maybe,” Adrien laughed, “But seriously, thanks for the offer.”
“If you want to transform, all you have to do is say the words. You know that.”
“Actually, I kind of don’t want to be alone right now. It’d be nice to have someone to talk to while I was walking.”
Plagg poked him on the chest. “While I would love to not have to work right now, how do you plan on getting out of here?”
“You know I used to sneak out before I became Chat Noir, right?” Adrien crossed his arms. “It wasn’t very often, but there were a few times when I managed to escape. When mom disappeared, father hired my bodyguard. After that, it got a whole lot harder to get out, so I stopped...until I tried to go to school for the first time.”
“How did you even manage to get out? Your bedroom is on the second floor, and there are cameras everywhere else.”
“There’s a bathroom on the bottom floor that has a window with a broken latch. My mom’s garden is on the other side, and my dad didn’t install cameras over there.”
“Okay, that’s great and all, but isn’t there a giant wall surrounding your property? What are you going to do, climb over it?”
“When I was little, I used to go exploring in the gardens, and one day I found a grate with some loose bars hidden behind a bush. It’ll be a tight squeeze, but I think I can still fit through it.”
Plagg nodded. “Sounds like you have this all planned out.”
“Yup,” Adrien replied, grabbing a wedge of cheese from Plagg’s stash. “Eat up. I don’t want you complaining that you’re hungry while we’re out.”
The Kwami shoved the cheese into his mouth and swallowed. “Does that mean that we’re not going to get more food while we’re out?”
He sighed. “Fine, we’ll get more food. Are you finished yet?”
“I finished ten whole seconds ago. I’m the one waiting for you,” Plagg replied snarkily.
Adrien grabbed his messenger bag and unzipped the top, allowing Plagg to fly inside. “Come on. Let’s get going before I have to come back. My lunch break only lasts so long.”
After creeping out of his room, Adrien quietly descended the stairs and walked down the hall. He slipped into a small bathroom, climbed out of the window, and dropped to the ground below. After looking both ways, he sprinted across the garden and dove into the bushes that hugged the wall. He crawled over to the grate, removed several bars, and squeezed through. He brushed off his clothing when he was finally on the other side.
“It would have been easier if you had escaped as Chat Noir, you know. You could already be at the park by now,” Plagg grumbled from inside the messenger bag.
Adrien knelt down and replaced the bars on the grate. “Yeah, but coming out here as Chat would have drawn too much attention.”
“Oh, right, that makes sense. Because the supermodel Adrien Agreste doesn’t ever get recognized when he’s out in public. It’s not like you’re famous or anything.”
“While that’s true, I have a plan that will keep me from being bombarded by fans.”
“And what’s this brilliant plan of yours? Tell me it’s better than climbing out a bathroom window and crawling through a dirty grate.”
Adrien reached inside the bag and pulled out a black sweatshirt. “This is my plan.”
“A hoodie. Really?” Plagg deadpanned.
“It’s foolproof.” He pulled on the sweatshirt and put up the hood. “See?”
“Whatever, kid. Let’s just get going. The sooner we get to the park, the sooner we can go get a snack.”
Adrien shook his head and zipped the top of his bag. “You and your stomach.”
Plagg phased through the bag and flew into the pocket on the front of Adrien’s sweatshirt. “I did not come all this way just to be stuck inside a closed bag, thank you very much.”
“Come on. I only have an hour and a half left,” he said with a smile tugging at his lips.
He crossed the street and walked along the edge of the park. When he reached the entrance, he looked up at the Dupain-Cheng’s bakery. Once again, his heart began to ache, but he still didn’t know which girl was the source of his distress.
Remembering that his time was limited, he took a deep breath, turned on his heel, and walked into the park. When he arrived at the venue, he stood in front of the locked gate and sighed.
“Aren’t you going in?” Plagg whispered from inside his pocket.
Adrien groaned. “I can’t. It’s locked.”
“That wouldn’t have been a problem if you were Chat Noir. You could have jumped over the fence.”
“Whatever. This was a stupid idea anyway. Let’s just go get you something to eat.”
“Oh, no! I did not get dragged out here just to watch you walk home and sulk. Nope. Not today!” Plagg flew out of the pocket and through the lock, causing the gate to creak open.
Adrien took a step back. “I can’t just walk in.”
“That didn’t stop you last night. Besides, it’s not like anyone is going to find out. There’s no one else here, and I know you won’t mess anything up. Just go in, kid.”
“Yeah, okay.” He stepped into the venue. “I can do this.”
He cautiously made his way to the gazebo and sat down at the piano. Adrien ran his fingers along the keys and closed his eyes. Then, just like the night before, he began to play. He quickly became lost in the music.
Memories of his lady danced through his mind. He thought of the way her smile could light up the darkest space. He thought about the way her laugh sounded like a symphony. He thought about how her eyes rivaled the color of the ocean.
Without warning, Adrien’s mind removed Ladybug’s mask, leaving Marinette in her stead. His hands slammed against the piano in frustration.
“Why do I keep thinking about Marinette when I think about Ladybug? Do I love her more?”
“What’s wrong now?” Plagg grumbled.
Adrien huffed. “I keep thinking about Marinette.”
“So?”
“I wrote this song for Ladybug, not Marinette. Why am I thinking about her while I’m playing it?”
“The heart wants what the heart wants, kid. Maybe you should listen to it instead of forcing it to want something that isn’t right for it. I thought we’ve been through this before.”
“But I think Ladybug is starting to like me back.”
“Or you’ve become better friends.”
“I wish I could spend time with Marinette like I do with Ladybug. That would make this easier.”
“Then, why don’t you just ask pigtails to spend some time with you?”
“I can’t.”
“Why not?”
“What if she says no?”
“You’ll never know unless you try.”
“I need a miracle, Plagg.”
“Well, you’re not going to get it from me.”
“I’m done. Let’s go.” Adrien stood up and grabbed his bag.
Plagg tapped Adrien’s stomach. “To get food, right?”
“Yes, to get food.”
“Then why are we still standing here? Let’s go!”
Adrien walked out of the gazebo and made his way towards the gate. The sound of footsteps caused him to freeze and duck behind a bush. When the footsteps stopped, he took a deep breath and poked his head above the leaves.

With the key in hand, Marinette stood unmoving in front of the unlocked gate.
“Someone is playing the piano,” she thought, “It wasn’t my imagination. That person is playing Chat’s song.”
Her heart began to race. “Tikki, I think Chat Noir is playing the piano in there.”
The Kwami opened the clasp on Marinette’s bag and peeked out. “How do you know?”
“That’s the song he played for me last night. Chat wrote that song. I have to go get those measurements, but what if he’s detransformed? Going in there would compromise our identities.”
“You know, now that you’re the Guardian, you have every right to…”
Tikki was cut off by a loud bang on the piano.
“What was that?” Marinette whispered loudly.
“I don’t know.”
“What should I do?”
“I’m going to leave that decision to you.”
“What if something happened to him? What if he’s hurt? Tikki, please forgive me for doing this, but I have to go and see if he’s okay.”
Marinette ran into the venue. When she reached the gazebo, she was horrified to find that no one was there.
She tugged on her pigtails and sat on the piano bench. “That music was real. I know it was. It had to be. He was here.”
“Marinette?” a voice called, causing her to jump and scream.
She looked up and saw a familiar tuft of blond hair peeking out from beneath a black hood.
“Chat. He’s here.”
“I’m so sorry.” Confusion flooded her brain when the boy removed his hood and revealed himself to be her classmate. “I didn’t mean to startle you.”
“Adrien?” She said, cocking her head to the side. “What are you doing here?”
He scratched the back of his neck. “Uhhh…”
“Oh, you heard the music, too, right?”
“Uhhh…”
“Of course you did! Yeah, when I got here the gate was unlocked. Is that how you got in?”
“Uhhh….”
“Duh! It’s not like you could jump over the fence or something crazy like that. But then how did Cha...I mean...that person get in?””
“Uhhh…”
“Oh, well! Did you by any chance see who was playing the piano?”
Adrien cleared his throat. “Um...no, I did not.”
Marinette slumped. “Figures. It was beautiful. I wonder why that person stopped playing. They couldn’t have known that I was on my way in.”
“Are you okay? You were looking a little flustered even before I accidentally scared you.”
“Oh, I heard the mystery pianist slam the keys, and I ran in here to make sure they were okay.”
“Really?”
“Well, yeah. What if that person needed help?”
“That’s very...Marinette of you.” He sat down next to her on the piano bench. “I guess you’re still our everyday Ladybug.”
Her cheeks began to heat up. “I...um...thank you.”
“Hey, Marinette. I wanted to ask you something.”
“Oh, okay. What is it?”
“Well, I was...um…” He turned his head. “Uhhh...d-did you want to maybe hang out after school?”
Her heart pounded against her chest. “You want to hang out...with me?”
Adrien chuckled. “Uh, yeah.”
“That sounds grood. I mean...uh…”
“Did you just smush together good and great?”
Marinette lowered her head and looked at her lap. “Yes, I’m hopeless.”
He placed a finger on her chin and gently lifted her head. “No, you’re not. I think you’re pretty cute.”
Her brain stopped working.
Adrien furrowed his brow. “Are you alright?”
“Yup!” She hopped off the piano bench and walked over to the roses lining the entranceway of the gazebo.
With her back turned to him, she took several calming breaths. When her heart rate finally slowed, she reached out and touched the petals on a rose that was in full bloom.
“Everything here is so beautiful,” she said in an attempt to change the subject.
“Not as beautiful as you,” he replied, causing her cheeks to burn once again.
She turned around. “What did you say?”
“I...uhh...I mean...do you like roses?”
“Yeah, the pink ones are my favorite.”
“Did you just say that you like the pink ones?”
“Um...yes?”
“I’ll make sure to remember that.”
“What?”
Marinette’s thoughts became a surreal blur. “He even talks the same way as Chat. How did I not notice that before?”
Adrien cleared his throat, breaking her out of her reverie. “How about we walk back to school together?”
She nodded. “Sure! I just need to measure the tables.”
“Why?”
“Oh, my parents are catering the wedding tomorrow, and my dad needs measurements for the tablecloths.”
“Wait. Your family is catering the wedding?”
“Yes, is that a problem?”
“No, your family makes the best bread in Paris. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that it’s Ladybug’s favorite bakery.”
Panic began to bubble in Marinette’s gut. “How could you possibly know something like that? She’s never mentioned my family’s bakery in any of her interviews.”
He shrugged. “I...uhhh...heard it somewhere?”
“It’s getting awkward. Just change the subject,” her mind screamed.
“Anyway,” she began, taking the tape measure out of her purse, “the tables?”
“Right! The tables!” He positioned himself next to her.
When he grabbed one end of the tape measure, their hands brushed together, causing her breath to hitch.
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. “Deciding is going to be much harder than I thought.”
