Maybe Disney needs to try taking on a fairytale they haven't done yet. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy more original stories like Raya and the Last Dragon and Encanto that as far as I'm aware don't originate from any particular legend (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong tho). Those are fun. Exploring different magical concepts like dragons and the miracle is awesome.
But that being said, I think Disney needs to go back to its roots and do a fairytale. Something with a princess and a big bad that comes from an existing legend. That's (generally) where Disney excels. That's why people love Disney. Little Mermaid? Classic. Beauty and the Beast? Classic. Princess and the Frog? Classic. Cinderella? Classic. Snow White? Classic. Really, I just think Disney does what Disney does best when they're taking a story that already exists and turning it into a beautiful piece of animation with a gentle, kind soul at the center of it, maybe with a different little spin like setting the Frog Prince story in 1920s New Orleans or having Beauty's father be an inventor. Little touches like that to make the story uniquely Disney, but with a solid basis in a folk narrative that touches something deep and instinctual inside most people.
Give me a girl who's cursed. A girl who either falls prey to evil or makes a deal with it, and whose sweetheart fights for her like Aurora or who does the brave thing and sacrifices to fix it like Ariel.
Give me a girl who's trapped. A girl whose family keeps her down or who just hasn't found where she fits yet, who stays kind despite her troubles like Cinderella or who finds her own alternative way out like Belle.
Heck, even a weird-ass thing like Shakespeare But Lions would be welcome. That's such a Disney thing to do, taking a story like Hamlet and filling it with whimsy and giving it a happy ending. Plus, Simba is one of the strongest protagonists and learns one of the best lessons in all of Disney fight me.
(I'm not going to count Frozen in the folk story group because the departure from the original was so wild I don't think it deserves to count. I love Elsa with my entire soul but I would also die to see Disney do a proper version of the Snow Queen fairytale.)
Look, my point is that I'd like to see something that really makes Disney dig a little deeper and recapture the spark of its classics. Because as much as I enjoy stuff like Tangled and Frozen and Moana (I've watched all of them loads of times and I cry about them consistently) they don't come to mind as Disney classics for me. Maybe that's just me. Maybe it simply hasn't been enough time. Maybe it's the difference in the animation. Speaking of that, however, I would actually love to see a Disney movie done in a 2D style again; I don't think 3D has any inherent superiority and I'd love to see what Disney could do with a 2D movie now. And there are so many folk stories in the world, surely there must be one that Disney can bring to life the way it used to. They haven't retold every story that's been told already.
Am I being a little picky? Probably. But I'd love to see something that reminds me of the Disney classics where a gentle person with a courageous core has their life touched by magic, faces an obstacle, and has a happy ending. Something that's not a variation on "X needs to be saved" but a specific character longing for a specific thing and either doing what they think is necessary to get it (like Tiana and Ariel) or giving it up for the sake of someone else, but getting a happy ending nonetheless (like Belle and Simba). Also a clear-cut badguy who gets to be absolutely cunty and evil about it with no peculiar twist.
I'd like to see something Classic Disney again.

cw: you give atsumu a handjob, but as friends.....maybe
wc: 653
imagine being going to school with atsumu and you've never had your first kiss.
you're both nearing graduation, and in a few months, you'll be off to college, while he's doing his own volleyball thing. you're in no way disliked in your year, in fact, most people would say they're fond of you. they're comfortable calling you a friend, whether they mean it sincerely or not, but it seemed that's all you ever will be to them.
you're in your last year of high school, and you've never been in a relationship, which in turn means you've never had your first kiss. the dreams of those rom-coms you've seen as a child (and continue to watch to this day) coming to life were all thrown out the window. you thought you've accepted that fact long ago, but two of your closest friends getting into relationships at the same time helped you realize that no, maybe you aren't truly satisfied with how you spent your free time in high school.
instead of being a shut-in, and playing video games all day long, you could have been out and about socializing, and perhaps catching someone's attention (you could have been sitting in a café looking pretty, and drinking a nice, warm cup of coffee, as the cute barista your age comes up to you and tells you shyly that he's interested. but reality isn't that kind.). that certainly sounds more appealing than hitting platinum in your godforsaken video game. being a hopeless romantic and being perpetually single do not go well together— you've learned that the hard way.
most people have silently agreed that they probably will never see each other again, save for the ones coincidentally going to the same colleges. and atsumu, being the silly little guy he is, asked you for one thing before he leaves: a kiss.
"i'm only joking if you want me to be joking," he said, somehow maintaining a calm front. a sheepish smile made its way onto his face, "but if you're down for it, then i'm being entirely serious."
and in your desperation, you said yes. might as well get your first kiss out of the way, right? better now than never, and better him than anyone else. you were comfortable with each other, and you've known him long enough, so why not?
somehow, that ended up with you both agreeing to something... more intimate than a simple goodbye kiss. no, you were not sleeping with him. you think you'll give that chance to your first partner. it's important to know your value, after all.
now, your first kiss was long gone and you've lost count with how many you've exchanged. you're comfortable above him, as he sits upright against the headboard. atsumu's hand guides yours as you pump his cock at a slower pace, wanting to drag it out for a little while, neither of you willing to give in so soon. as your thumb glides over his tip, he lets out a sharp gasp.
"yeah, just like that," he mumbled into your mouth, small whimpers occasionally escaping him. you answer him with a greedy kiss, eager to feel his tongue against yours. his large hand leaves its hold on yours, generously letting you tighten your grip on him, moving quicker than before.
"ah, please... fuck," his eyebrows are knit together, eyes meeting yours as you pull away from the heated kiss, a thin string of spit connecting you. atsumu's eyes are hazy as he looks up at you, his tongue lolling out slightly. his bleach blonde hair is a proper mess, sticking out in every other way. you hear his breathing stutter, accompanying a deep red painting itself on his face.
it's a positively erotic sight, you think, and you need more.
this may not have been the most romantic way to have your first kiss, but it's definitely one to remember.

I am about to say something that will probably put a giant fucking target above my head, but against all good reason - I fucking hate this whole 'gaylor' trend.
let's get the facts out right now: 1. I am a non-binary dyke, in case anyone wants to play the queerphobia card 2. I've been a fan of taylor since fearless first came out when I was 11 (before some of you had probably even reached double digits) and 3. yes, this is inspired by the recent ny times article.
honestly I'm usually too much of an old man to be interested in a lot of celebrity news, even for artists I like, so I generally stay clear, but this came through my morning news feed via, bizarrely, ctv (fucking ctv thought this was NEWSWORTHY enough to put on their site which is bonkers, and if you're not canadian, ctv is a nationwide news broadcaster). and it made me livid - because this has now far beyond stretched the line of acceptable.
fucking ny times. this would be perfectly expected for rags like daily soap dish or enquirer or some other bullshit circus, where they spend all their damn days crafting celebrity stories of who's secretly pregnant and who's getting an underground divorce. ny times, in case they fucking forgot, do still have some sort of legitimacy to their name, but I guess they decided they'd run out of enough stories to now outsource to conspiracy theory level fans who's parasocial relationships with their favourite celebrity reaches deity levels. dear ny times, there is actual news still happening in the world in case you're out of ideas.
putting aside this bizarre so called attempt at 'journalism', onto the second point - which is that this. is. gross!!
I've had issues with the whole 'gaylor' thing since the start. we, as a fanbase, have seen taylor ripped apart and broken down by this intrusive and harmful celeb culture that analyzes her every move for who she might be seeing, who's she interested in, which male friend could be a potential partner, etc etc, over and over, and how it's been both damaging to her and her love life as she's said. fans have even criticized the media for it and said to leave taylor alone! but now, all of a sudden, just bc you're a fan or bc you're queer or both, it's okay??? it fucking boggles my mind when so-called 'gaylor' fans gush about her and her work, always at her defense and say they care about her, and then do this 180 where they partake in a super invasive thing at her expense and don't even blink an eye??? making your own guesses by yourself is one thing, but creating a whole plot around the fact of taylor secretly being gay and pushing her to come out is a whole other ballroom of nuts.
let's get this out onto the table - she hates this. she doesn't like that you guys do this. she's already stated so and you all keep doing it. just because you're replacing the male character with a female one doesn't mean shit when you're doing the same harmful activity, just switching pronouns. you're not subverting anything, in case any of you need to be told. as a queer fan, this is embarrassing.
it is such a gross over-stepping of someone's private life, and now that the goddamn ny times have posted it about it, makes the behavior even more legitimized!! while nothing excuses homophobia, if taylor eventually starts distancing herself from anything and all things queer and starts pushing back, I don't want to see any fucking one of you crying bc it'd be your own damn fault.
thirdly, even if, even if, taylor was gay - it's none of our fucking business!!!
it's like all you up and completely blanked out what it was like to be closeted. if you're staying closeted, it's because you're not ready to come out!!! you don't want to or it's not a good time for you or whatever there doesn't need to be any reason for why someone doesn't want to say they're gay!!! it's hard enough trying to make that choice, and then you have the rest of the whole world posting ''''articles'''' about your sexuality, putting a million pairs of eyes on you - fuck, that'd send me back ten more layers into the closet if it happened to me! it's super rude not only to discuss someone's sexuality like it's the weather over brunch, but even worse to demand they say something about it! this is queer etiquette 101 people - you don't run around gossiping about someone's sexuality bc whatever that person decides they doesn't need your fucking input!!
basically if I could spray you all with a spray bottle I fucking would right now - nobody needs your input on their sexuality, celebrity or non! all this does is perpetrate harmful celebrity gossip that just hurts the artist you claim to love so much. taylor is a real person with a real life, she's not a storybook character to speculate over! please, I am begging you, stop this! go outside! touch grass!!
and at the risking of being meme-ified, leave taylor alone!
