yuuji's domain represents the nirvana

i made a little analysis about yuuji's domain in 265 and the way i think it represents the state of nirvana

1. the concept of nirvana

in buddhism, nirvana represents the ultimate stat of enlightenment, where one escapes from the cycle of life and death (samsara), and achieves the highest possible level of peace and freedom. in nirvana, one is liberated from suffering and negative emotions such as greed and hatred (take yuuji's hatred towards sukuna).

2. yuuji's domain

yuuji's domain is a non-combat domain. in fact, he mentions that he "doesn't even know what it is", and the mere reason he opened it was because he was desperate to talk to sukuna. the domain itself features various locations from yuuji's childhood - train station, park with a crawfish lake, farm. on one panel, we see horses - in buddhism, horses symbolise the journey towards spiritual liberation.

all of these locations have a sense of innocence and simplicity - a sharp contrast to sukuna's domain which is a hellscape, with a shrine as its only "landmark". there is a sense of tranquility and peace within yuuji's domain, as if a world without suffering exists.

3. yuuji's purpose

yuuji's purpose for opening his domain isn't to fight or kill. he simply wanted to talk to sukuna. his actions in this arc prove that he has no intentions to harm anybody - his first and foremost purpose is to protect people and he does so through any means necessary. his willingness to sacrifice himself for others and his pure heart, despite everything that happened to him, is what gives him his strength.

yuuji sharing his memories and experiences with sukuna is aligned with the buddhist practice of seeking understanding and enlightenment through introspection and dialogue, rather than conflict.

4. yuuji's perspective on life

yuuji rejects the notion that humans are mere tools with predetermined roles, explaining that even the simplest acts, like walking a dog or nurturing a family, hold intrinsic value. this perspective challenges sukuna's nihilism, emphasizing that every life, no matter how seemingly insignificant, has worth.

finding the joy in the smallest things - the joy that is often overlooked in the world, is a crucial aspect of nirvana, hence yuuji's focus on his past - the simplest moments of his childhood, which are full of joy and innocence.

5. buddha statue and kshitigarbha

yuuji's hand sign, a mudra symbolizing kshitigarbha, and the presence of the buddha statue we see in this chapter, are both an indicator of his enlightenment, as he is able to use a domain as a result of his awakening. the story of kshitigarbha ties in closely with the fact that yuuji offers sukuna a chance of salvation, if he releases megumi. this is an act of kindness, compassion and benevolence, in spite of sukuna's crimes, just like kshitigarbha offering a chance of enlightenment to all beings who were stuck in the depths of hell, as he saw value and worth in each of them.

6. the role of a person

when yuuji discusses the role of a sorcerer and rejects the notion of people being mere tools, the panels featuring the faces of those he respected and lost—wasuke, nanami, nobara, gojo, choso, and junpei—are a clear indication that yuuji, unlike sukuna, does not consider humans disposable and worthless. yuuji respects them, mourns them, and wants to make sure they are not forgotten.

these values are important in buddhism and are what makes a person worthy of nirvana: the willingness to accept the nature of things, the value of life, the importance of kindness and benevolence, and respect and care for others. basically, yuuji as a person embodies the core concepts of buddhism and its ultimate goal - nirvana.

Hey so I saw on his Wikipedia page that A. Alastor is aroace and a sex symbol at the same time and B. there are two separate webcomics with him in it that are almost impossible to find online, also C. apparently Mimzy is in love with him and D. the old webcomic had him bound by this evil cloud lady with an apple sceptre, and Lucifer has one of those in the show, so I’m thinking what if she still exists in canon and she’s E. Eve???

Hi! I'm rather new in the whole Hellaverse fandom as a whole (since 2021) so my knowledge is limited but I'll reply with the best of my ability

A. Yes, Alastor is a canon aroace character. This doesn't make him unable to be a "sex symbol" haha. As an aroace myself I'm very glad it has been officially stated, even tho I do like some fun crack ships with him when they're not too out of character.

B. There's only one official webcomic made about Alastor, "A day in the afterlife" you can easily find it on paranoid DJ's YouTube channel, he made an awesome dub and sound design. Any other webcomics you may have found are probably fan made and headcanons :)

C. From what I gathered, Alastor is an old OC of Viv, and he went through different changes. For a time I think he and Mimizy were endgame at some point. But it's not canon anymore. Idk if Mimzy still have the hots for him tho.

D. I am not aware of this webcomic and I don't know if it's an official one. Maybe it's a fan made and then everything in it are just headcanons! :)

btw I also love that when Nell is dressed up femininely she does act like it's uncomfortable, because it's not her preferred style and she just doesn't like being in it, but there's no specific comments directed towards the corset/stays. I will die on the corsetry hill and it's refreshing to not see that particular piece of clothing not depicted as the devil's organ-rearranging torture device

Hey, guess what, I have a scream.

Today (Sept. 16, 2024) would have been Lauren Bacall's 100th birthday, so TCM is showing several of her movies in a row today (they're not starting until 8 pm eastern but that's a different rant about calendars and time zones) HOWEVER, they're only showing the movies she made with Bogey! Sure, those are her most well-known, but they're known just at much if not more for him than her!

She made great movies without him while he was alive (How to Marry A Millionaire is my personal favorite of her entire canon) and made even more after he died! She lived another half of a century after his death! It's her fucking birthday! If you're going to celebrate her movie career, cover her entire career, you cowards, and not just the 5 years she made movies with her more famous husband. And then, cherry on top, the final thing they're showing is a documentary called "Bacall on Bogey", that looks to just be her talking about his career.

I'm so mad. Lauren Bacall deserves better than to still be shoved into her husband's shadow.

I just read this conversation on reddit about being aegosexual and cupiosexual with a person arguing how you absolutely can not be both at once because those are two totally opposite terms and so how you should not even ask about something that obvious...

Well I love mathematical logic with all my heart but I also am aware how it doesn't always apply to our imperfect real world. Even less to the living people.

In other words: it's just not that simple.

How I see it:

Stage 1: Let's pretend you're planning to have a meal so you look into the fridge. It's full of fresh and potentially tasty products but literally nothing you see makes you want to eat it. Imagining yourself eating any particular thing may even make you feel weird or disgusted. You assume that you're just not hungry [-> you are asexual]

Stage 2: Imagine you see some people eating with pleasure. You're surprised to find out that you actually enjoy looking at them eating their food. Exactly the same food that seemed so unappealing to you before. Later you find out that even thinking about other people eating their meal can be enjoyble. And that all of a sudden it makes you feel hungry. But still - imagining yourself eating exactly the same type of food as them - to you is not appealing at all. The thought of putting yourself literally in their place takes away all the pleasure [->you are aegosexual]

Stage 3: Imagine you are alone and trying to visualise yourself in the act of eating... something. You can not for the life describe what it is, it's totally unspecified thing. And it is not even important. It's the conception of eating process itself that seems so very enjoyable. It makes you feel reeeally hungry. You don't know what you'd like to eat but you're certain that you DO want to eat something good!

Now being wiser after Stage 1 - you decide to go to the biggest grocery store in the area and there you spend a lot of time looking for the best food for your desired meal. But still nothing you find is appealing to you. Even though you are undeniably hungry and you have whole range of options - you can't find anything you'd actually want! You may recognise few things that you think should be potentially tasty - but it doesn't change the fact you'd need to force yourself to put it in your mouth. [->you are cupiosexual. AND still just asexual]

Aegosexuality is said to be enjoying watching, reading or just imagining things in third person but never including yourself. When consuming media you "cease to exist"

Cupiosexuality is desiring to do some things including yourself... only with nobody specific. There is the longing - but the thought of doing it with any particular person seems not even a bit as appealing as the act itself.

According to mathematical logic there is no direct opposite between "two people that are NOT me" and "me but with NObody specific"

So maybe it is not possible to be like both at once in the same exact moment - but I'm not convinced it can't be taking turns in one person.

some of my favorite tmfu trivia:

apparently at the height of its popularity, tmfu was being played on 50% of the television sets in the nation when each episode aired.

robert and david got as much if not more fan mail than clark gable - with david being the most popular

when the beatles visited usa they wanted to meet robert (specifically robert for some reason, maybe they were upset at the comparison between david and them lol). and they did, there's pictures of them together.

david purportedly decided how he would play the aloof illya as a more developed character than what he was originally given - largely from a hospital room after a nasty reaction to penicillin.

david also wanted to do his own stunts (and was capable of doing them), but made an agreement not to do the dangerous ones - except he broke this deal with a particular clifftop duel and 35ft dive into the water below.

tmfu was released during the cold war and since it featured a positive russian spy character allied with an american character, politicians lowkey threatened to bury the show and everyone involved (think how people would react now if a pakistani, an israeli, and an american headlined a show together)

robert gave david's mother an autographed photo calling her his favorite russian grandmother

a secret service member once told david during a white house visit that he/Illya was the reason they took that career path.

despite malicious rumors to the contrary, robert and david apparently had a wonderful on set relationship and though they didn't socialize a lot outside of work, their friendship and correspondence continued long past the show.

Things I have come to notice about the vocaloids (based on observation).

🟢 Miku is the happiest and most cheerful of the group. Always wants people to smile and have fun 💙

🟡 Rin and Len are a wholesome duo and very supportive of each other - but will cause chaos if they feel like it 😈😈

- Len is shyer and quiet, but likes to express himself (usually in the form of his dance moves). He is Chaotic Good.

- Rin is cute but fiery. More than often may be the one to initiate the chaos. She is Chaotic Neautral.

🔵 Kaito was obviously the theatre kid.

🔴 Meiko looks like she would sing in a seedy bar or underground club. Tired but loving mother of the group.

🟣 Luka is the big sister/second mother of the group. Also looks like she stepped out of Fire Emblem.
