Hi there!
I saw that you are/were friends with the creators of Stellar Remnants and as someone who knows one of them irl and has heard their non-stop yapping about your stuff I took it upon myself to ask what that little rat is too scared to ask!
What would the SEA Family’s reaction be to the relationships developed within Stellar Remnants?
Also, to give some relationship breakdowns that I actually do surprisingly have permission to share from CoastxlWater’s themself:
You don’t see much of the celestials in the main fic, but from my friend’s rambles about the what-ifs and oneshots series the Remnant Family do infact think about the celestials a good bit to where there are technically relationships
Eclipse hates moon basically, but a good chunk of that hate stems from fear and the knowledge of knowing Moon won’t give up. Since as we know, Eclipse was infact once Moon and so he knows how the bot would act.
Solar Flare would infact do the same thing it did to KC to Moon if it ever gets its claws on him, you don’t mess with Flare and especially not its father.
Bloodmoon wants to basically harass everyone in the celestial family. But due to Eclipse’s creative threats and tracker planted in them they haven’t tried anything yet, or atleast that is what Coastxl has told me about the upcoming prompts.
No one in the Remnants family hate Sun so to say, but no one exactly likes him. Eclipse and Bloodmoon with their distrust of the sunny animatronic and Solar Flare carries its own opinions on Sun.
Eclipse still cares about Lunar, and Bloodmoon does as well but neither would say they like Lunar, because they don’t. Surprisingly it’s Flare to have the major problem here, because from what Coastxl has told me Flare doesn’t appreciate the kids actions. Flare apparently has strong opinions on why Lunar was wrong to turn on Eclipse, especially because Moon’s own treatment of Sun. So Flare is the one who mainly dislikes Lunar.
Surprisingly no one in the family have strong opinions on Solar, and apparently one line Coastxl does have planned for a future chapter is, “Solar? I don’t care for Moon’s little lap dog, I mean yeah he helps Moon and all but they are family who usually treat each other right so it’s understandable, though Solar is a pushover. People pleaser, even.” - Eclipse
Same as Solar no one has strong opinions on Earth, they all kind of just ignore the cheerful ‘sister’ and only plan for Moon, Sun, Solar, and Lunar ever finding where they are. Or really Eclipse is the only one planning and worrying, Bloodmoon and Flare are just trying to get Eclipse to stop worrying.
One thing they all have in common though is a hatred for Monty, and yes that does include Bloodmoon. No one really likes Monty.
I think their relationships with KC are shown well enough in the making fic, Coastxl said they might try developing the hatred and fear more through more night terrors and maybe even a few complete group hallucinations, so they do have a deep fear of KC is all I’m saying.
And before you ask, “how do u know u have permission to say this if they don’t know about you having all of their socials and links to the stuff they like?” Well, they said and I quote: “hm? Oh yeah you can spoil it if you want it’s not like it’s some huge surprise or anything- oh your asking this for possible future blackmail huh? Well fuck you I could give less of a fuck about you spoiling this, HAH”
I dunno if we're on friend levels yet, though tbf I don't really do any of these online friendship things often thanks to crippling anxiety 👍

Weeeeeeeell, SEA and SR are pretty different relationshipwise, which would be a surprise to the SEA family.
Solar Flare and Eclipse wouldn't be able to imagine a father-son relationship between themselves, though Solar Flare would understand Flare's attachement to Eclipse, because it's also pretty attached to its own. Even if differently.
Killcode would be greatly saddened there's such a shitty version of himself, and he'd be torn between trying to fix their opinion of him and staying away, if only because he knows more now about trauma and those sorts of things. He too wouldn't want to see the people who caged him and his family in, so he can understand why the Remnants family would want to stay away. Doesn't mean he wouldn't be very tempted to change their opinion tho
Bloodmoon would find how Flare is so much younger an amusing difference they'd use to tease their own brothers. It's too good an opportunity to waste. They just have to do it.
Lunar would be freaked by the dislike of that Solar Flare, used to his brother being reliant, protective, quietly loving and most importantly, patient and always there. He wouldn't know what to do with a version of them that's more hostile with him.
Moon would once again be surprised while also not about just how much he sucks. He wouldn't blame the family though, because he knows he's awful. He would feel more comfortable staying away.
Sun would take one look at it and shrug. He can't do anything, it's none of his business, if those people want something they'll approach each other and work out their issues. He's more than aware family can be complicated and there can be lots of resentment and hostility and dislike, especially with everything that's going on. He also wouldn't be offended by someone looking down on him, because he's aware at first glance he really does appear pathetic.
Over all, the SEA family is surprised, sad and disappointed by the state of the Stellar Remnants dimension, but not like they can do much about it. They have to decide to change their relationships if they want to be something different. Although they'd prefer if these people didn't try murdering each other
(Also, SEA Eclipse thinks the four arms are cool and wishes he was built like that too. Everyone else is just glad the sleep-deprieved fuck doesn't have another pair of hands to overwork himself with)

The BAU doesn't really need your help with the case. Spencer does. tags: post prison! spencer, fem! child psychologist! reader. cm type violence (blood, murder, etc), traumatized child. pre-relationship yearning MAYBE ? maybe fluff also sorry i still don't know how to classify these things. the synopsis doesn't really make any sense because this is kinda spencer's pov but idk guys sorry im really tired. w/c: 1.5k (this was originally 5.4k words but then i reread it and found that i actually hated every single one of them so...) a/n: okay so wow... i had so much fun writing this (let's ignore most of my posts from the past two weeks) THE THING IS i sorta already had a pt2 to this but then i thought well we can't have that without the beginning so i did kinda write this in a rush im really sorry that it's so short and shitty. . . ALSO i really love this reader & i'd love to write more of her but if you don't like it then i don't like it either and i'll never write again if you tell me not to. i do not think this is good by any means. i do hate it but if i stared at the google docs page for any longer i'd go insane.
Spencer doesn’t treat her like she’s made of porcelain because she’d be easily broken (though, she would, but neither of you say that since you can tell how hard she tried to look strong before coming to the precinct). He treats her like she’s fragile because he can’t remember the last time he didn’t break something like this — wide-eyed and shaking, holding onto something soft like it’s the only real thing around.
He was the one who convinced the team to ask for your help when the kid got involved — he always is. They insisted it wasn’t needed, you can deal with her yourself, you’ve always been good with children, or whatever, but your office got a call from him anyway.
No one knows why he sticks around. Maybe it’s the way you hold her; the gentle hand that runs through her hair, much warmer than the tiny fingers with chewed off nails and blood stains. Maybe he’s trying to memorize the tone of your voice — soft and sweeter than the apple juice she didn’t open, rambling about the silliest things you can think of — to imitate it next time he finds himself having to question kids. Maybe it’s the teacup in your other hand (the one he made you) and the way you so casually sip from it. As if this delicacy came to you as easily as taking a breath, while he struggled even with breathing.
Either way, despite his hesitance, he’s always sure to be around if you’re working on a case with them. Watching from the corner in a way that might have seemed creepy if only you didn’t smile so often back at him.
Amelia Murphy, 6 years old.
She sits at the end of the couch, legs tucked up to her chest like she’s trying to make herself as small as a crumb on the untouched sandwich going stale by her side. Spencer stands at the edge of the room, a smile threatening to peek through as he listens to your stories about the stuffed animals on your bed.
“You can’t tell any of his buddies, okay?” she nods, small but enough for you, “Mr. Winston is my favorite teddy out of all the ones I have.”
“Why?” You and the agent have to hide a surprised expression at the sound of her quiet voice, ragged and hoarse, coming out for the first time tonight. 
“Because he’s been with me since I was very, very young.” You chuckle lightly, “I must’ve been around your age when my grandma gifted him to me.”
“How do you know my age?”
You look at Spencer. He takes that as an ask for help (it really wasn't) and moves before you can speak again, still as careful as possible as he sits on the armchair next to the couch and joins in on the conversation like you suggested to him so often. “We don’t, actually.” She doesn’t flinch like he feared she would, so he continues with a soft smile, “I’m sure my friend was just trying to say she was young, like you are.”
Amelia tilts her head, small brows furrowed as softly as she mutters, “Really?”
“Yeah.” He nods, “We don’t really know how old you are.”
“I’m… six.” Her fingers, miniature sized when compared to Spencer’s, struggle for a second before arranging into a six, “This much.”
You smile and pretend to write it down on your clipboard, “That’s a lot.”
He laughs in half disbelief, half joy when she asks, “Well, how old are you?”
“Do you want to guess?”
“Uhm…” Tiny hand scratching her chin, she examines him like she knows what she’s doing. He looks to you in pure confusion during the seconds she stays quiet. “A hundred?”
He holds back a snort, “Not quite, no. Do you wanna try again?”
During most of the time he talks to her, you stay quiet. He often looks to you, hesitating, asking for some sort of reassurance that he’s doing this right — you always give it to him with a barely there nod and a big smile.
Always, except for the moment he started talking about his job in almost too much detail when she prompted what are you?. Though, that time, he didn’t need your confirmation or denial to figure it out. All it took was a different knit to her eyebrows for him to go back into smaller than regular talking tone, from the bordering robotical lecturing mode.
“I wanna be a model when I grow up.”
“Oh, yeah?” you giggle breathily. Thankfully, she doesn’t take it as an offense like both of you thought she would. She just nods back at you with a proud smile. 
“And do you know what models do at their job?” Spencer inquires.
“They sit pretty in their pretty clothes for the people to watch,” the girl shrugs, speaking in the same way one would say the sky is blue. “Like her.”
He laughs when she points at you. “Being pretty isn’t all she does, though, Amelia. She’s not really a model.”
“She should be,” she whispers and you pretend you don’t hear it.
“Yeah, she should.”
He’s still careful even in the way he looks at her. Like she’d feel his cold hands if he said something too loud, too much. Every time she shows any sort of reluctance, he goes even softer — like he’d learned from uncountable hours of watching you do this over the years.
The very first time you met — interrogating an unsub’s daughter, before all of it happened. Before Mexico and Maeve and Gideon and Dilaudid and Emily. Before his jaw was screwed permanently clenched and his brain painted foggy. When he didn’t think of himself as a ticking time bomb and wasn’t scared of what he saw in the mirror.
Even when he didn’t feel this way about children as well as every other aspect of his life, he admired your work and yourself. So, it only makes sense (to him) that, when he sees himself as some sort of monster, you look like you’ve hung the moon and the stars even though the only thing you’ve ever been is yourself.
“And, uh, Amelia…” he mutters, pointing to the stuffed bunny in her hands, all love stains and frayed stitches, “Your friend over there. Does he have a name?”
She shakes her head, then spins it around to show the bow hidden on the back of its head, “She’s a girl.”
“Oh, yes, of course. I’m so sorry,” he laughs awkwardly.
“She doesn’t have a name.”
“Is there a reason for that, sweetie?” you ask as soon as there’s a pause from both of them.
He just watches with a grin while you work with her to find names for her teddy.
The markers were Spencer’s idea. He didn’t mean for it to be anything more than a way for her to express herself — you’d both been drawing animals and trees and numbers. Though, when her page became full of red scribbles and what seemed to be portraits of her parents, you realized she might have more to say.
“Who are those people, Amelia?”, he places a hand on her shoulder. She’s so focused on her tiny fingers wrapped around the marker, that she barely shows any reaction to him. When her bottom lip goes wobbly and her hands impossibly shakier, he takes away the paper with a “Okay, that’s enough.”
She fell asleep on his shoulder after half an hour of sobbing while telling what she remembered of the story.
He can’t help the warm feeling that floods his chest when you tell him, “You did a good job.” after getting as much as one can out of a kid who just witnessed her parents’ murder. His expression and words go against it, though. With a small shrug, he mumbles, “Oh, it was nothin–”
“No, don’t do that,” you cut him off, “You did really well.”
“You would’ve gotten her to say a lot more in a lot less time. It takes you an average of five minutes and for–”
“Shut up,” a giggle.
“Would you please stop cutting me off?”
“Not until you admit that you are actually still amazing with kids.”
He sighs. “How’s Mr. Winston?”
“No, no!” you slap his arm playfully, “You don’t get to change the subject by mocking me for my friends.”
“I’m not mocking you,” Spencer raises his arms in defense, a smile brightening his face. “I’m trying to get to know you and your friends better. I can’t do that anymore?”
“Not if you’re mean about it,” arms crossed over your chest and a half fake pout on your lips, you mutter.
“When was I mean?” he cocks his head to the side.
“I can tell from your tone of voice. It gets higher and weirder when you lie. You’re not the only one who knows about psychology here, buddy.”
He just shakes his head with a laugh. “I’m being serious. How are they doing?”
“Well, if you must know, they’re doing amazing.”
“I’m glad.”
It takes 43 (he counted) chimes of the clock on the wall for anyone to say something again. It’s him, in a whisper, “Do you really think she liked me?”

Hope you like the Yuuko appearance! I worked really hard to put extra details into his outfit. I was trying to go deeper into his character, but it got cropped out :( If you recognize the colors then maybe that means something ?
He doesn't say it in his voice lines but he is listening to either Wowoka’s Rolling Girl (because rolling), cosMo@bousouP’s Hatsune Creation Myth (fast), or DECO*27’s Rabbit Hole (i was getting that vibe while i drew this). All sung by Hatsune Miku (of course). No earrings because he doesn't want them to break or for them to get caught in something and rip his ear (yikes).
Yuyume (other child) also is there sometimes, either because Floyd drags her, or Yuuko makes him go for moral support. Has witnessed Yuuko fall multiple times before he got up and continued like nothing happened. Possibly concerned (not really).

Rabbit rambling back //
Op I apologies for this enthusiasm but reading this post has got my brain jumping up and down like a monkey with pepsi injected into its bloodstream going “OO OO OO AH AH AH!” because you discuss a theory I’ve had on the back burner for a while--

(and the preview is so funny it’s AWFUL without context but it’s only because I talked about sword purposes lmfao please ignore) (and obviously not saying you stole it it’s just like “HEY! I’m not crazy for possibly overthinking this!”)
Anyway you mention a what-if theory and wanna pick at it given what you discuss. Completely agree that there’s a connection between the Usagi’s and the Ki-stone and the possibility he's now spiritually connected.
What if the Ki-Stone decided to "save" Miyamoto Usagi somewhere? I probably forgot to post on it, but that first scene with Usagi and Usagi together in the white space of the Ki-Stone made me think. the older Usagi "wakes up" in a similar way, as if his spirit has been asleep for a 1000 years. We know he wasn't in the Ki-Stone like the Yokai, bc we see at the end of s1 that he survived that interaction + in s2 that he sent his sword away,.. but what if he had to send it for safe-keeping with his family not just because he was sure he would die and be captured, because he knew the sword would be needed later? "Willow Branch is a special sword" as he puts it in the ep 10 flashback. (and more abt this theory another time then)
First thing I wanna point out. It gets me thinking about the whole backstory of Usagi’s swords in SR. Or at least one sword. Because the backstory we get in season 2 implies that Miyamoto only gave away Willow Branch.
Yuichi: According to family lore, it happened a thousand years ago. Miyamoto Usagi gave Willow Branch to a messenger to take to his family for safekeeping. The messenger stumbled into a huge battle in a secluded valley. He tried to defend Willow Branch, and almost lost his life. He didn't regain consciousness for weeks. By then, the sword was lost, and so was his memory of where the battle happened. They say he searched for that valley for the rest of his life, but was never able to find it. -S02E07
So why only Willow Branch? You could argue it’s because Willow Branch was the sword used to cut the Ki-Stone so Usagi was more willing to give it up due to it’s importance but again, why would he do that? To me it just seems a bit odd that Miyamoto Usagi, a character known to wield two swords would just…give up his main sword willingly…unless he was leaving home to do something knowing he wouldn't (possibly) come back. A battle? Sacrifice maybe? Unfortunately I don’t think there’s much evidence to determine what happened between Miyamoto giving up Willow Branch and his potential death…but it does raise questions that I feel SHOULD be considered if the show continues.
As you state—Samurai swords do commonly hold importance in stories. One common saying is “A sword is considered part of the warrior's soul.” And as also mentioned in your post—The Yojimbo comic “Senso” can be of significance to this.

This shows that the idea of weapons having connections with their owners (soul) is very important within the UY universe and the show is no exception. Both Yuichi and Miyamoto’s reflections appear in Willow Branch when found (S02E07), Yuichi manages to meet Miyamoto through meditation and bear in mind too—he never confirms how they are meeting.

Yuichi: Are you a spirit, or am I communicating with you in the past? Miyamoto: The difference is only a matter of perspective. -(S02E08)
And not to mention—after the battle (s02e10), Miyamoto appears within the Ki-Stone to thank Yuichi. And again…as you point (Damn doing my job for me!), in the very first episode, Yuichi almost seems to 'awaken him' after touching the Ki-Stone.

Another really popular theme often seen in Japanese (And inspired) media is the subject of families and bloodlines. Blood is thicker than water n’ all that. So Yuichi, a descendant, touching this giant important crystal, surviving AND seeing his ancestor “wake up” in a vision before seeing his memories of killing the shogun?

IMO, it’s clear that there IS important connections between the Ki-Stone, the shard now restored, Miyamoto and Yuichi. Maybe it’s a history-repeating-itself situation where Yuichi is continuing/repeating a legacy but who knows. I do think that Miyamoto (spirit? conscience?) will hold more importance in a possible season 3 but hey—not letting go on if that’s real or not.
…one more thing though cause it’s kinda “hmm! Interesting!”
(I also find it interesting that the piece of Ki-Stone attached to Edgewing is named after the national butterfly of Japan, the Sasakia Charonda, or, ��-murasaki " (オオムラサキ - "great purple") - but all that for another time)
Butterflies have many meanings and symbolism. This includes the belief that they are messengers from the afterlife, metamorphosis and transformation. (X)- Link is to an article of their meanings but feel free to look at others, this one just explains it the best imo. It’s interesting given that a butterfly symbol is used as a barrier to protect the city.
Also….Sasakia Charonda...ohohohoho! I wonder what the colour scheme is of these butterflies—

Neo Edo, Ki-Stone and Kaikishi connections
another little wayward thought i've kept pushing back in my head to post about it another time: the way the connection between both our younger Usagi and the Ki-stone is pictured and then the original, older Usagi, how these things connect in the story and wordl. (Fanramble)

when Usagi first touches the Ki-Stone, he describes it as "like if you had a friend, who was lighting " and seems to be visibly fine after the Ki-stone pushes him away from the connection (or it seems more like; he's so taken aback to see Miyamoto Usagi in the same space as him, he just "wakes himself up from it" but doesn't look worser than usual).

But you'll notice that 1) his pursuers (newfound friends) + Spot are all ALSO lying on the ground, smoking from being zapped by the Ki-stone, and 2) Tetsujin who was touching Usagi on his shoulder to stop him is "not a ghost" - "transmuted into another plane of existence" - so basically we can say that as a kindness, the Ki-stone "transmuted" him instead of just killing him. So we can assume that usually touching the Ki-stone either kills or zaps the person.

But Usagi is basically fine, save for maybe feeling a bit hurt by the push-back onto the temple floor. Most of the next times he connects to the Ki-Stone again, it's by his yo-yo. Did the Ki-Stone, recognizing Usagi as a familiar rabbit, or even recognizing him as Miyamoto Usagi's descendany, know he would need this yoyo? Did she know Usagi could solve the 1000-year old problem delayed by Usagi's ancestor by killing the shogun and trapping all spirit-farers?

We also see in ep 6 "Nobody likes A Ninja", the ninja trying to list the Ki-Stone get zapped back as well. Side-note: we don't know if they just get a bit "burnt" like the main cast in ep 1, or if they're actually dead here after.

Whatever the case, the Ki-stone can't be touched directly without harm to the physical person. The way the fake scroll bait is used by the Neko Ninja also makes me think that Tetsujin, knowing that Fuwa would want to steal it, also made the scroll in a way he could punish the Neko Ninja a little, but without killing them (i know it's maybe not that important since they're technically enemies, but Tetsujin's whole outfit makes me thing that he'd approach it peacefull, or more with mischief that lethal harm in mind.)

In the same ep, Tetsujin also repeats the "Do not Touch the Ki-Stone" rule, also explaining why (magnetic pull of the earth - sidenote: that's why u can also see this magnets idea in how people in Neo Edo carry their weapons - magnets are everywhere in Neo Edo and that's how the cars and some of the appliances work for example)
As the series goes on, we see Usagi get gradually worser reactions after each time he has touched the Ki-stone. In ep 5, trapping Hakai, we see him step back and yell in pain, holding his eyes closed and covering them, staged in a way that makes it seem both the info and physical experience were tougher to experience. Trapping Sakuran in ep 6, he stands in shock and simply rolls down from not being able to stand on his own anymiore, lying down for a while when Tetsujin and Spot approach him. He says "That hurts a little more every time." At the end of the season, once he's seen the final scene with his ancestor, he holds his head again, but in slightly less pain. This could be explained how the whole city saw the scene and is "sharing the brainload", as we see everyone from Gen to the city police rubbing their heads in shock. Ironically, the only person to recover quickly from this is Lord Kogane (for humor, but this scene was genuinely funny with how it's a comment about history changing in a 1000 years)..
Anyway, this all to say that it's an interesting internal consistency within the show world x3 Usagi is the only one who survives touching the Ki-Stone, presumably bc of his connection to Miyamoto Usagi, who was able to also survive connecting to the stone and even cut it thanks to Willow Branch, his own personal weapon. I had a theory going in my head a while back that perhaps, despite him not having a legacy left after the murder of the fake shogun, what if the Ki-Stone decided to "save" Miyamoto Usagi somewhere? I probably forgot to post on it, but that first scene with Usagi and Usagi together in the white space of the Ki-Stone made me think. the older Usagi "wakes up" in a similar way, as if his spirit has been asleep for a 1000 years. We know he wasn't in the Ki-Stone like the Yokai, bc we see at the end of s1 that he survived that interaction + in s2 that he sent his sword away,.. but what if he had to send it for safe-keeping with his family not just because he was sure he would die and be captured, because he knew the sword would be needed later? "Willow Branch is a special sword" as he puts it in the ep 10 flashback. (and more abt this theory another time then)

At the end of the episode, we see that Yuichi connects to the Ki-Stone again, but this time, not to remember and not with his yoyo but to return Omurasaki to the Ki-Stone as it was the piece that his ancestor cut, was passed down instead of a sword, and now sit's on his auntie's Edgewing, at the pommel.

Maybe it was this connection to the Ki-Stone that also saved Usagi the first time? Whether it was the connection itself (having the sword with him, with the stone still spiritual/magical) or the Ki-Stone knowing that the piece was back in the city, and thus choosing Usagi based on it in the first ep. But the stone saw that he needed his own spirit weapong, and so it opened up the vault for Usagi to pick the most suited weapon for him. Again, I wonder how much the Ki-Stone in it's magic/spirit sentience actually foresaw or predicted some of this?
(I also find it interesting that the piece of Ki-Stone attached to Edgewing is named after the national butterfly of Japan, the Sasakia Charonda, or, ō-murasaki " (オオムラサキ - "great purple") - but all that for another time)
Giving the piece back the Ki-Stone throws Usagi back so far that he's actually left unconscious for a longer time, enough for the Ki-Stone to pulse with some sort of energy to close the big energy portal in the sky, go wireless and for his friends to basically finish fighting the rest of the warbotto.

Side-note: Like. he actually looked kinda dead in this scene and while being a longtime cartoon fan I knew it probably wouldn't last long, I was kinda convinced enough just to be like "no way. they're not gonna kill off a main character!" at it haha x3
Now, for the other times that Usagi touches it, he uses the yoyo, which basically seems to act as a conduit between his spirit and the Ki-Stone (which is basically a spirit-energy stone, going by the name), even tho he feels worse each time, he can still endure the memories and connection without bigger harm. Does this mean the other's in his orphan crew also get this ability with their Kaikishi weapons in s2? or is it special to just Usagi's yo-yo? It's also intersting that while both the Ki-Stone and the entire city feature magnet-related features as does the yo-yo (being able to connect to metal, but also spirits), it seems the other weapons do not have this ability. Except maybe Chizu's arrows, which she can change at will. Kitsune's new batlle fans can also disappear at will, matching her personality and skills, but the disappearing "woosh" energy also resembles the Ki-Stone itself, being purple. Gen's new war clubs can change size, but also connect into one big version which he is able to lift with ease, so that could also be a connection to the magnetic theme related to the Ki-Stone. Kinda wish we'd gotten more of the others or to see more of these weapons secondary skills, but alas, 10 eps is what we got.

But would this ability to connect to the Ki-Stone via weapons, mean that the others would also have more backstory and lore to explore if the show went on longer or even just for another season? More of those 2D cutscenes where characters remember or imagine something? What kind of story ideas did the writers and crew have simmering underneath all the stories they had to cut for time?
Also of note: While the rest seem to have standard features + super-natural ones which reflect their users + some hidden ability we don't know about, it might be that the yoyo also has one more secret ability?
Usagi's yoyo can act as a normal yoyo. When lit/glowing, it acts as a magnet and Yuichi can use it creatively in a lot of ways. It's nigh-indestructible, which seems like a feature that would be common to all Kaikishi weapons. It can capture anything magnetic and in episode 3, Possessions, we see it can also capture a yokai in place. Dare Mo, the yokai who takes auntie's appearance to fight Usagi, is surprised to see him sporting a Kaikishi weapon and begs him not to "use [his] weapon's power!"

So that has always made me wonder if there's more to it than what we see later? Because we see with ep 5, capturing Hakai, that if Usagi asks respectfully, the yoyo will "calm" the yokai into not struggling or resisting. It's about Usagi learning to respect and trust his weapon and learn to not jump into a fight all sword-crazy. But also, if it's part of it's spirit we could poetically state that it's about Usagi learning to trust and listen to his own soul as well.
In any case, this "calming" effect of the yoyo seems the most obvious third extra power, but I get the feel like there might more. (again, sorta wish we'd gotten to see more of the rest of the Kaikishi weapon's special powers x3) And then, if the other spirit weapons are not there for capturing yokai + we've already seen their secondary powers, what else could be there?
What's subtly interesting about Usagi's choice in the yo-yo, is that the Ki-Stone seems to have wanted to pick Chizu at first (she's the temple student and in reality an experienced fighter, but also, not being picked is a visual gag here), but then comically turns to Usagi, giving him the spotlight... but also making him react in a way that to me at least speaks that "that stone took his spirit-orb and sent it to the weapon door". We see him pick the yo-yo impulsively, but we also see. So it makes it feel like the Ki-Stone picked him deliberately, as if knowing he'd pick the yo-yo, instead of something sharp that could cut her, since we know that a sword is usually a samurai's spirit (and probably why in this show, Willow Branch was able to cut it at all).

In s2, after saving the city from the Makkine attack with his spirit-samurai form, granted to him by meditating while connected to the Ki-Stone by his yo-yo again, Usagi says that it's probably something he won't be doing again. It almost seems as if this drained all of Usagi's own spirit energy, and then some. The Ki-Stone gave him a boost upwards and he got some heavenly spirit-power to transform into a spirit-suit basically - with Usagi himself in the "heart" of the mech.

Interesting design. (I've made notes about this before). It's really cool! Also cool that it mirrors the end of UY: Senso in this way too. The show's showrunners and other creative staff were such big fans, they put something like this into the story, but it still makes sense internally.

Your last ask kind of bothers me, because the whole premise of the Shiina manga is that two of the protags were created through child grooming. It doesn't matter if you pirate it or not, you're just prioritizing the "official" content even though it's presented right alongside the OOC gross SR stuff. I get loving InuKag, but what's the difference between something official and a doujinshi anyway? Just the creators getting to make money off the brand. If Shiina wasn't doing the manga in partnership with the owners of the Inuyasha brand, you wouldn't take a second look at it because it's no better than the middling fanfiction written on AO3. But because it's "official" you're drooling all over it and willing to ignore all the context surrounding it?
Why don't you just go and find a good InuKag fan artist that doesn't support SR and support them instead?
This is going to be a very long and rambling post as I try to make my thoughts clear. on both this ask and the ask I got previously.
First of all, I myself don’t ship InuKag. I know, that’s basically blasphemy in this fandom, but I don’t. So if you’re trying to come for me personally anon, don’t bother.
With that out of the way, I was trying to offer an alternative to that particular anon. Some people can enjoy fan content but still prioritise canon content of their ships (even when it comes to something non-canon like Yashahime and even less canon still when it comes to the manga) just out of a desire to want to know what happens next. I don’t see quite as much with western media but there’s something about the culture of the anime and manga industry and how there’s almost always new merch being released of some sort that basically primes the consumer to want more, even when a series is long finished.
Then again, some people are just fandom purists and feel safer with content that has some semblance of official status. Remember that the iceberg that is Yashahime only hit the Inuyasha fandom relatively recently and a lot of people are still hurt, confused and trying to seperate being able to enjoy the original work without having to also support the sequel and, more importantly, creators who allowed this to happen even if it isn’t canon. The Harry Potter fandom is proof that you can completely separate the work from the author and their problematic decisions and still enjoy the work itself, but as I said, the Inuyasha fandom is still collecting itself from the fallout.
As for me, I like InuKik and SessKik and I will always heavily support queer ships over straight ones. I’m in no way dismissing your point of supporting fan content and fan creators bc there’s literally no chance I’m going to get any content at all if it’s not fanmade, and I create fan content myself to continue that goal onwards. Many of us are already going the route that Harry Potter took and are contributing more of our own content that completely separates off the distressing elements introduced to the fandom. I’m pretty sure people will come around as it’s already happening, but in the meantime I’m trying to be understanding of how upset communities like InuKag and MirSan will still be.
In the meantime, in regards to said spinoff that’s being made about the newlywed couples, while I’ve recommended pirating as the best way to enjoy it without financially supporting it, I do want to warn people at the same time. Remember this is still a Yashahime-centric project. I understand that previous anon loves InuKag and wants more of them, but look at his InuKag has been treated by Yashahime so far. Not only are they no longer the heart of the narrative, they’re reduced to a bastardised version of the original that allows and fawns over Sesshomaru’s violation of Rin, and then said bastardised version we’re left with is all but absent from the story.
To previous anon, I understand being comfortable with more ‘official’-ish content and as I said, if you must look at it then don’t financially contribute to it, but remember that this is not a series that has been kind to, understood or valued InuKag. The only reason this series is being made, I said some time ago, is because it’s attempting to use InuKag as a cover to try and push the SessRin narrative more. As current anon is pointing out, any new content with InuKag is going to be stained by SR and the context around the sequel.
There’s no shortage of InuKag events that have happened this year and plenty of master posts of good content. I think I saw somewhere that’s there’s a zine in the works. I can’t tell you how to spend your time or money on the internet, but if it was me, I’d be supporting fan comics and doujinshis, instead of official-but-not content that doesn’t treat my OTP fairly. Just something to think about.

Okay, so I said I would do a post about Jamie, Keeley & Roy and growth, (im)maturity, accountability, double standards in the fandom and all that shit, but then, oops, I started watching Schitt's Creek, lmao, and now I won't have time to do this before the next episode airs, which probably will give me new things to think about anyways, so I'll just do a full on analysis of anything Jamie, Keeley & Roy during my rewatch between season 2 and 3.
But there is this one thing I noticed and need to get off my chest, and that I hope will be addressed in the last two episodes: The show usually is pretty good at pointing out bullying and presenting it as wrong (Jamie bullying Nate and Sam in season 1, Nate bullying Colin and Will in this season). But when Roy mocks Jamie and has him repeat that he is an ugly ugly boy etc. it is played as a joke and no one holds him accountable for it, even though it is super fucked up if you really think about it. Roy basically abuses his power as his coach to humiliate Jamie - it is childish enough that at that time he probably has ignored Jamie for weeks. Roy is a grown-ass man, like 14 years older than Jamie, and really shouldn't be acting so goddamn immature.
Anyways, when Jamie realizes what's happening, that Roy looked through him and is mocking him, he still begrudgingly plays along, since he truly wants Roy's help. And after "Man City" it just hurts watching the scene, since being treated like this must be something Jamie is painfully used to. And the way Roy gradually gets closer to Jamie, stepping into his personal space is—while being different in tone and overall demeanor—still eerily similar to the way James Tartt sr gets into Jamie's face in "Man City".
(And I'm pretty sure that James Tartt sr called him more than once a pussy for caring about his looks, since he probably sees it as soft and unmanly. And probably gay. Since vanity is a frequent trait used to queer code characters, but that is a whole different conversation.)
And when Jamie gets rightfully pissed and yells at Roy, Roy tries to initiate a physical fight (again: the same way James Tartt sr shoved Jamie—it reminds me of the parallel between Ted yelling at Jamie in "Two Aces" and James Tartt sr yelling at Jamie in "The Hope That Kills You". That has to be a deliberate choice!).
Ted is completely right to tell Roy, that Jamie is the mature one, and Ted doesn't even know what provoked their fight. Roy's audacity to say, that Jamie refuses to stop being an arsehole! ARGH! At no point does Roy acknowledge, that he did wrong and mocked Jamie to get a kick out of it, when Jamie, you know, just wanted to built bridges.
And the whole "Deep down, at your core, you're a prick" line ... Don't even get me started on that.  While Roy didn't know the full extent of the abuse that Jamie suffered through his father, he DID KNOW that Jamie had been acting like a prick because his dad had called him out for being too "soft". That this had been the reason for Jamie to become "tough" and "dominant". But he probably just dismissed it, like everything else hinting at Jamie not being  a complete piece of shit. Roy seems unwilling to change anything about the image he has constructed of Jamie in his head, even though Jamie has obviously changed and everyone else is able to see it.
Only when Roy sees Jamie with his father this image shatters and he sees Jamie for the broken boy he is. He finally has to realize that what he believed about Jamie was wrong. That deep down, at his core, Jamie isn't a prick. And in hindsight he probably realized that what he said and did in "The Signal" was not okay.
And that is why I really need some interaction between them, something, goddammit, where Roy acknowledges he was wrong about Jamie! Because the thing that everyone loves about Roy and Keeley is them admitting to mistakes and being accountable to each other. And so pretty please just let Roy admit his mistakes and be accountable to Jamie too.
Jamie just needs someone to tell him, "the way I treated you wasn't right and I'm sorry. you deserve better. deep down you are a good person." Because he needs positive reenforcement and while his confession to Keeley was about her seeing potential in him becoming a good person, it sounds a lot like he doesn't believe that right now he is already good enough to be loved. That he is worthy of love and respect, now and not at some ominous point in the future.
Now this got longer and more rambling than planned, but I have a very soft spot for one sexy baby.

that's a good question! obv this is a pretty layered conversation, and this depends on the particular hyperfixation, but for the sake of being able to discuss at least somewhat how far this all goes, i'll focus on the example you gave.
quick note before i go into it though: EVERYTHING is problematic in some way. this is truly just a fact of life, and part of why this is such a difficult conversation to have. you're genuinely never going to find a piece of media that is without problems in one way or another. the difference is the degree of problems, and scope. so keep in mind from the start that i'm not going to take a "everything that's problematic needs to be thrown out" stance, bc that's just not realistic and we'd be left with nothing.
harry potter is a unique beast bc of joanne's transphobia and not inconsiderable money and power that she uses to lobby for it. it's not like enjoying works by lovecraft, who of course held many bigoted views but is now long dead. buying a lovecraft book does not directly provide monetary support to the bigotry. on the other hand, buying a harry potter book does. and even things that may not have a financial boon for joanne are still aiding to the popularity of the franchise, still aiding the platform she uses for her bigotry.
at the same time, it's impossible to say that people cannot have an emotional attachment to her work. ignoring the myriad of problematic elements for a moment (bc wow there really are a lot), joanne fundamentally wrote a story about a boy who was an outcast, who was unloved by the family he had, who didn't fit in, and found solace in others who were like him, just as weird and strange. it's impossible to ignore that, even if it was not intentional coding, that sort of story through a queer lens reads incredibly authentic and meaningful to the experiences of many queer people. i know many trans people in particular who found meaning in those books, and it's been a struggle for them to grapple with joanne's vocal hatred of them after feeling for years that maybe she understood, was an ally.
so it's already a bit of a moral conundrum. you can't support harry potter somehow without at least indirectly supporting joanne's transphobic lobbying. and the more you hear her speak about her bigoted views, the more you realize how much of that is in the books. and then you also run into the problem of your brain being latched onto it, unwilling to let go. it's genuinely a shitty situation.
now everyone can come to different conclusions about what is the "correct" course of action here. some people think that loudly enjoying harry potter with the addendum of "everyone is trans" is sufficient, death of the author as it were (quick note that isn't what death of the author means, but that is the claim people make). some people say you have to throw the whole thing out, become vocally against everything in it. some people say you have to enjoy within reason: don't buy merch but you can still read the books/watch the movies/etc., just pirate and you're all good.
and tbh i'm not going to tell anyone what's "right", bc this is a moral dilemma. not everyone's morals are going to align with mine. but if you're like me and joanne's views upset you too much, if the issues in the books are a little too uncomfortable to look past, if the idea that you might be funding hatred against your own group, against friends, against those you love keeps you up at night - it's definitely time to try and move on from it.
so, if you've settled on that course of action, what do you do? first off, you gradually limit your exposure. if you run a specific themed blog, write fanfic, draw fanart etc., those are the easiest things to start cutting out (mind you, you don't have to cut it out completely from the get go! maybe you write/draw but don't post as an example). if you desperately need to, reading/watching on physical media you already own is okay, or pirating instead. gradually weaning off is the key. eventually as you stop, the hyperfixation DOES begin to alleviate.
and again, this is only for this VERY particular piece of media under this very particular circumstance. were we in a lovecraft situation, where yes there's problems with the text but the man is dead and you're not funding bigotry, we truly wouldn't need to HAVE this conversation. my advice there would just be to consume responsibly and acknowledge the problems without making excuses for them. and to be clear, when the thing in question is not causing direct harm, that IS my advice. bc it bears repeating: everything is problematic in some way, and everyone is going to have a different threshold for what is a workable amount.
but when you have things like harry potter where you're funding transphobic policy, or attack on titan which is straight up japanese nationalist propaganda that can and has caused harm to real life people, this is when the conversation shifts less from "the media is problematic" to "this is actually affecting real life people". which...again, part of the reason this is such a layered conversation. honestly even with as long as i've rambled here about it, i've still barely scratched the surface of it all.
tldr: if your support/consumption of a particular piece of media is concretely (as in there is significant evidence and actual easy to identify examples of this) causing harm to real life people, it's time to consider weaning off of it by gradually limiting consumption, and not providing monetary support. if your support/consumption of a particular piece of media is NOT concretely causing harm to real life people and merely has problematic elements, acknowledgment of said elements and critical thinking is sufficient.

this was based on a headcanon i put out for SR a while back, that narancia once came to fugo for help on how to woo reader in her native language. dialogue in  italics are words spoken in english! takes place pre-events of VA. fugo’s POV.

This night was already off to a rocky start.
Pannacotta Fugo values efficiency, getting work done in a timely fashion and producing the best results. He’s aware that this line of work must allow for some flexibility, but that doesn’t mean he has to be pleased about it. He and Narancia have been sitting here in the car for... how long exactly? Fugo checks his watch, grimacing at the hands of the clock, which now read 2:00 AM. So much for getting a good night of sleep, he thinks. 
“Why are they not here?” Narancia huffs, sinking further into the passenger seat. “Can’t we just call it a night? I’ve been lookin’ at the radar for hours, and there’s nothing.” 
Fugo understands the sentiment, having trouble suppressing his own frustration and patience wearing thin. “Narancia, this is important. If the rumors that Tuscany gangs are trying to get a foothold here are true, Passione’s reputation will be called into question. We have to nip it in the bud.” 
“Well, yeah, that much is obvious,” Narancia blows a strand of hair out of his face, lips pursed. “I’m just saying. If they were gonna show, they would’ve done it by now. Meeting up this late is suspicious.” 
Fugo can’t help but agree. If there’s anything gangsters don’t want, it’s drawing attention to themselves. “We’ll give it another thirty minutes and call it a night.” 
“Sounds good to me.” 
Narancia stretches, neck stiff from staring at Aerosmith’s radar all this time. Fugo can’t help but feel respect for his companion. Sitting still is the last thing Narancia wants to do, as someone who is constantly buzzing with energy. Maybe he’s not all that incompetent after all, Fugo muses. 
“Hey, Fugo,” Narancia scratches his neck, to which Fugo raises an eyebrow. “I’ve been meaning to ask you something...” 
“And that is?” Fugo replies. 
“Do you think it’s difficult for [First]?” Narancia voices his concern. Fugo gets the sense that he’s omitting some information, for whatever reason, but doesn’t press it. The question feels wholly random. Not a far cry from Narancia’s erratic thought process, yet Fugo contemplates the origins of the inquiry all the same. If you’re involved, it’s impossible for Fugo to suppress his curiosity. Not that he’ll ever admit it. 
“Difficult?” he repeats the word back. “In what sense?’ 
Narancia groans, struggling to string his words together. “Well, y’know, speaking Italian all the time to us. What if it gives her a headache at the end of the day or something...” 
Fugo shakes his head at the thought. “I doubt it does.” 
“I don’t know, I think if it were me, it’d hurt my head,” Narancia takes a deep breath, prepared to get to his actual point. “So, I wanted to ask you to teach me some English.” 
Well, now his nervous rambling makes sense. Fugo holds back a sigh. This isn’t the most opportune time to be speaking leisurely, seeing as they’re both working, but he decides to humor the request. Though, he notices, the thought of Narancia getting closer to you makes Fugo’s chest tighten. He doesn’t understand why and tries to ignore it.
“I’m not too hopeful seeing how our previous studying sessions have gone, but let’s give it a shot. What do you want to know?”
Narancia straightens his posture out, suddenly renewed with energy. Fugo doesn’t miss the glimmer in his eye. When was the last time Narancia looked so eager to learn? There’s no time that comes to mind, at least, not to this extent. How strange. Narancia does give you puppy eyes, but does that really mean...? No, there’s no way, Fugo reasons with himself. It’s simply admiration. Anyone with a Stand Narancia finds cool earns that behavior.
“I wanna give her a compliment,” Narancia blurts out. The two of them blink, his tan complexation flushing and hands going up in defense. “F-for her hard work! Yeah, her work...” 
Just great. Fugo pinches the bridge of his nose, willing himself to remain calm. He takes a deep breath, fingers drumming against the steering wheel, uncertain on what to do. The thought of Narancia brazenly flirting with you in English makes his head spin. He can’t turn his back on the request now, Narancia will want to know what made him change his mind, and he doesn’t have the wherewithal to deal with that.
It doesn’t help when Narancia mistakes Fugo’s silence for not knowing any compliments, offering unwanted suggestions. “Maybe something like, how she’s nice, or... how she smells really good, and has a cute smile--”
“I’m an idiot.” Fugo interrupts with a snap, trying to hide how his nose scrunches in displeasure. Not his finest work, he recognizes, but it should serve its purpose in deterring Narancia’s progress. Narancia is none the wiser to the true meaning of Fugo’s words. He nods his head, practicing the phrase underneath his breath, assuming it to be the highest flattery the English language has to offer.
Fugo nods his head in faux approval. “Yeah, tell her that, she’ll love it. I promise.” 
Narancia beams at the thought of pleasing you. “Really? I’m gonna tell her at lunch then!”
Here’s to hoping he doesn’t find out before then, Fugo thinks. He can already see this ending badly once you explain to poor, naïve Narancia, what the words actually mean. It still beats Narancia fawning over you in English, a role Fugo is intent on keeping to himself. He’ll get to that point eventually, he’s been working so hard...! To think Narancia is bolder than he is is a sweeping blow to Fugo’s pride.
“Alright, I think I’ve got that one down,” Narancia proclaims with a puffed out chest. “What else can you teach me?” 
Fugo smiles thinly. “Plenty, if you’re willing.” 
You’re going to be in for quite the treat tomorrow.

He sighed at you as the one and only girl in his heart was gushing at some random stuff at your phone. What were you staring at? One of your most favorite OTPs!! Itaru and Banri! But you had many others too like Itaru x Citron, Itaru x Chikage, Itaru x Tzusuru and the list goes on and on. All of them involved the gamerboy, who (unfortunately) had a crush on a certain fujoshi.
For god’s sake, why did he had that damn crush on you? You were a crazy woman, who just shipped him with everybody! Sighing, Itaru shook his head. “Oh my gosh, Itaru-kuuun~ Are you thinking about someone?! You are blushing!” More like having a dust of red cheeks, but Itaru just rolles his carnelian eyes at you, when you rambled around again. “Yeah, I’m thinking about a crazy person…”
“Ohh, who is it? WHO IS IT????!” The blonde gamer ignored your pleading eyes, as he tried to concentrate on his game, having no luck on that gacha and sighing again, like on every day you visited the mankai company or how you called it “mankai heaven”, because of your dear ships.
Standing up in defeat, Itaru grumbled and left the living room to go back to his room, hearing a chuckling Chikage near him. “Don’t you want to tell her who your crush is?” – “No, I don’t, Chikage-senpai.” Walking pass him, he finally entered their shared room, before listening to a small conversation of a certain fujoshi and his roommate.
“WHAT!? You know who his crush is!? Please, Chikage-san! Tell me who it isssss!~ I need to know it! I have to play his matchmaker and make Itaru-kun SUPER HAPPY! And I just want my otp to come trueee!” You excitedly asked him. Some might even say annoy and rambled at the rookie spring troupe member, but you didn’t care, which is why you knocked on Itaru’s room again and again.
There will never be a day you will stop annoying the gamer…
But then after a hard week of work and pulling useless SR cards instead of his beloved SSR, Itaru knew that he had to finally tell you!
“Oh my, hihi… That was during that play. Ahhh~ You looked so cute as the mad hatter!~ Masumi and you would look like a great couple!~” Fangirled the fujoshi as Itaru entered the living room, glancing at your direction. “(Y/N). Do you really want to know who I have a crush on?” And hopefully stop annoying him…
Jumping up and down, clenching your phone in your hands, you nearly screamed YES loud enough for everyone to hear your pleadings. “Good, fine. It’s you! Now stop shipping me with anybody, because I can’t take it anymore!! I really don’t want to do this… But I’m pinning on you for like… A long time and I… I finally told you it… So…? What’s your answer?” Asked the gamer, as he opened his bright eyes he closed a second ago, to nervous to look into her (e/c) eyes.
“Oh okay… Then I will stop it, if it annoys you that much…”
YES! FINALLY!
“But one question, Itaru-kun… Who is Yuu? He doesn’t work here, right? How did you met him?”
And the only thing that cut the silence after your questions, was Itaru’s facepalm.
He really hoped that you will hopefully realize that he meant YOU and not another person… Maybe he had to explain it to you again….

and second, yeahhh. I started writing yg in high school so reading it back is sometimes like an obscure and clumsily written diary of my own teen psyche so yes, hello! 16 yr old me opening the big taped up brain boxes labelled IGNORE
Kat hasn’t dated nor kissed anyone until chapter 55, but that has no impact on her queerness. It’s visible and self-aware in ways I wish are more common in media, while Charlie’s is more conventionally clear in his dating history. Also, there’s the whole Carmilla book rec incident and the Byron chat in chapter 32 which is just…baby gay.

Nottmort (Tom Riddle/Nott Sr.), Modern Muggle AU, ~2k words
Thanks to @yletylyf for kicking around this idea! Tom drives an Uber in the Bay Area. Thoros & co need a ride.
Abraxas and Orion are bickering over luggage in the background when your Uber pulls up. Black, of course, so it’s a Mercedes that will smell a little too much like leather cleaner when you get in, but none of you have ever ridden in an UberX or, god forbid, an Uber Pool, and you’re not about to start.
Your colleagues—never forget, you are not friends, no matter how much time you spend with them—slide into the back seat before you can even begin to help load bags into the trunk. You’re left alone with the driver, and though he offers to help, you haven’t let yourself sink that low as to make this man pile all of your shit in his car while you sit around and watch. And anyway, it feels like the polite thing to do. More than Abraxas or Orion, you’ve been raised to be polite.
So you fold yourself into the front passenger seat, too kind to push the seat all the way back and give yourself the leg room you need even if Orion, behind you, is just 5’8 to your 6’3, and smile at the driver as he confirms your destination.
He’s pretty. You’ve been in a lot of Ubers and you’ve never seen a driver this pretty. Is that classist?, you wonder to yourself, remembering something you read in Vox the other day. Probably. Nevertheless, you’re taken by the curve of his mouth, the sweep of his dark hair, and you throw a smirk over your shoulder at Abraxas who you know must have also noticed.
“Traffic to SFO will be busy,” he says regretfully, and you roll your eyes. Orion refuses to take the early morning flights, unwilling to wake at 3 AM, and you’re always stuck with these long, miserable Uber rides down from the city to the airport. “And Terminal 2—right in the middle of it. There’s construction around those doors, if you haven’t been there—”
“We know,” Orion butts in rudely, shutting up your driver for the few minutes it takes to get out of your neighborhood.
You use those few minutes to swipe through your phone. Email—nothing important. Messages—you clear the notifications. Your Instagram is alight with people reposting the same infographic about voting rights and you make a mental note to kick some money to that non-profit that’s been all over Twitter lately. You close out apps and end up back at Uber, watching your car’s laggy progress through the San Francisco streets. Your driver’s name is Tom, the app informs you. It’s a nice name.
You clear the side streets and Tom offers amenities. “If you want any water, there are bottles in the cooler between the seats,” he calls back to Abraxas and Orion, “and mints in the cup holder. You can adjust the air conditioning if you like, and there’s a charging cable attached to the back of my seat if you need it. Would you like to choose any music?”
“No,” Abraxas says, and whether he means the music or the entire spiel doesn’t really matter, given his withering tone. You look back at him, trying to convey ‘Be nice’ with just your eyebrows, but Abraxas is fussing with his hair and ignoring you.
Tom’s one of the chipper ones, it turns out, because he takes the rejection in stride and shifts to the dreaded personal conversation. “What do you all do for a living?”
“Ah, we invest in companies, mostly start-ups,” you say, trying to avoid—
“Venture capitalists!” Tom guesses, and he’s right but you hate the term and its connotations. So what if you are all white men whose family money has bankrolled tech speculation? It’s what anyone with half a brain would do. You donate, you read the liberal news—at least, you think that’s true for all of you, though Orion was friends with that Republican mayoral candidate and Abraxas’ father sponsors that conservative think-tank and…
Ah, fuck. “Yeah, pretty much,” you agree, hating yourself.
Behind you, Orion digs his AirPods out of his pocket. You hear the snap of the magnetic lid as he closes himself off to the world. Abraxas is slouching, the hem of his third-favorite cashmere cardigan catching on the seat behind him, and you realize that you’re alone in this conversation.
Well, fuck it. If those two pricks are going to make you call the Uber, deal with the reimbursement paperwork, and sit in the front seat, you’re going to talk to the driver and make this car conversation as painful as possible for them.
As if reading your thoughts, Tom does the one thing that guarantees a terrible ride: he pitches his app idea.
“You know, I’m also a software developer,” he says, which is at least more promising than when someone isn’t, “and if I had the kind of funding that companies like yours provide, I would absolutely make this app.” He proceeds to describe something completely inane, the type of exclusive, niche social networking app that hasn’t had legs since before the Trump presidency and you would be content to let him drone on, to let Abraxas keep melting into his own seat and to let Orion channel his anger through a knee driven into the back of yours, but—
But for all that Tom’s idea is stupid, he has the energy of the best pitches you see. His energy is infectious. His eyes light up, he gestures with one hand, and when he stops to take a drink (one of those water bottles with a built-in straw, which you associate with joggers and your lamest employees but which does very different things to you when it’s Tom’s mouth wrapped around the top) you’re transfixed by the wet sheen over his chapped lips.
And so, yes, maybe it’s mostly lust, and maybe this is a sign that you need to download Grindr again, even if only to jerk off to the dick pics you’ll get, but you start to actually talk to him.
“There’s no future in niche social networks,” you say, halting Tom in his tracks. “There will always be new ones, don’t misunderstand me, but the broader landscape is saturated by the top names, and they’ll buy out their competitors if they need to. Perhaps you can topple Tumblr, but that’s not a path to profit. If you want to impact the social market, you need to pinpoint the novel interaction model that you want to offer and make yourself buyable.”
“Buyable,” Tom repeats, like he’s never been interrupted before. He probably hasn’t. The first rule of Ubering around the Bay Area or the Valley is to never engage the app pitches, and Orion has started kicking your seat for your transgression.
“Yes,” you enunciate. “You want to be bought out and brought in at a high level. The giant that eats you may or may not use your idea, but you’ll make a comfortable sum as a consolation prize.” You’ve helped companies through this before. You’re flying out to New York this week in part because one of your investments is considering purchase offers and you want to strategize in-person. The founder is dallying, sending emails about independence and integrity, and Orion will bully him into selling while you and Abraxas negotiate the best terms for the contract.
You can feel Tom’s eyes on you. Abraxas might be calling “Thoros…” from the back seat, and Orion might be attempting to annihilate you with his gaze alone, but you’re smiling at that handsome face behind the wheel and hoping for an accident on the 101.
Unfortunately, you make it through San Bruno without running into more than the usual level of traffic, and Tom’s pulling up to your terminal much sooner than you would like. Abraxas and Orion jump out of the car with uncharacteristic speed when it stops, Orion even moving to stand by the trunk in readiness to take his bags. You delay.
“Do you have a business card?” you ask, when it’s clear Tom’s waiting on you.
He fumbles to pull a wallet from his jeans. You can’t quite get a view of his ass as he does, but that doesn’t stop you from looking.
His card is bent at the corner, printed cheaply, and probably from his last job. You’re pretty sure that company doesn’t exist anymore. Tom taps the phone number. “I can be reached here,” he says smoothly, but his professionalism cracks when he adds, “by call or by… text.”
You know what sort of texts you’d like to receive from him.
Pulling out your own card case, you hand him your card. “Text me,” you say, your voice just this side of appropriate, “any time.”
Tom visibly swallows and jumps out of the car. You take your time getting up, and if your cashmere sweater—Margaret Howell, not that Elder Statesman piece of shit Abraxas is wearing—ends up in the footwell of Tom’s passenger seat, well, you’ll be back in SF next week, won’t you?
“Thanks for the ride, Tom,” you tell him as you take the handle of your luggage, letting your fingers brush his. “I enjoyed our conversation.”
“Yeah,” he nods, and you don’t care that Abraxas is snorting behind you, he’s been judging you this whole trip and he lost out on a hot guy’s number as a result. “It was…”
“Thoros,” you interrupt him before he can ramble and psych himself out. “My name is Thoros, and I really would like to hear from you.”
Tom looks at you then, and you see him pull together the same sureness that drew you into his initial pitch. “I’ll text you about the app.”
“I’m looking forward to it,” you say, meaning it.
Bonus:
“You know,” Abraxas drawls as you sit in the United club lounge, gesturing lazily with his overpriced airport Fiji water, “if you tip him too much it’s like you’re paying him for sex.”
Orion looks up from his phone then, removing one earbud for the first time since he put them in. “I’ve paid more for sex with less attractive men.”
“Welcome back,” you say, “I didn’t realize you had paid any attention.”
“Someone would need to not have eyes in order to miss how hot that Uber driver was,” he bites back, returning to his phone.
“Well, I’m tipping him extra anyway,” you announce, confirming Tom’s five-star rating. Should you write a review? Is that too much?
Abraxas, with a grumble, declares, “I’m telling Alecto not to approve this expense.”
Bonus bonus:
Your phone buzzes at the end of dinner, the celebratory affair to close the sale which someone had insisted must be at Lilia, even though Abraxas doesn’t eat carbs and you would have preferred to grab a slice at Scarr’s rather than haul out to Williamsburg, anyway.
It’s Tom. Of course it’s Tom—you’ve been texting all week, and between a few late-night flirtations and one very bald statement of interest, you’ve got a date set for when you’re back home. You’re going to Mensho Tokyo, since he lives in the Tenderloin and you live… vaguely around the Tenderloin, at least, you tell people you live there when you want to seem cooler, and Tom is the type of guy that makes you excited to stand in line for hours to get seats. You’re already thinking about whether you might put your arm around him while you’re waiting, and you unlock your phone to see what he’s saying now.
It’s a picture message.
A picture of Tom, wearing your Howell sweater and no pants and oh god oh fuck—
“Was that Uber driver’s dick?” Abraxas whispers, next to you, and you curse your luck. “Remind me to call the next Uber, Jesus Christ.”

ososan s3 thoughts bc why not
osomatsu san is a huge comfort series for me so im gonna ramble abt it <33 bc like the title says why not
ok thoughts on chars and things; osomatsu- just kind of basic so far which is funny 2 say when talking abt oso but still djkf idk how to describe it well; i love whatever he has going on with the ais. it really shows alot abt both characters it’s so cool; i hope he gets some nice moments this season after the movie i kind of became an oso fucker
karamatsu- i love him more and more every day, i’m hoping he’ll get some development this season bc im seriously in love w him. we keep getting these snippets of angst for him that hint to greater emotions and although they’re always kind of sugarcoated with this comedic overtone (like a lot of angst in osmt- i feel it’s with kara especially because even characters like totty have gotten serious development and with him it’s always always played off as comic relief, the thing he keeps hinting at wanting to avoid- it was explored a little bit in the movie and i think the movie is canon because things from it were brought up in the szn) i’d like just a bit more
choromatsu- pretty basic so far- the thing w ichi when the ais/riceballs were first introduced is really really interesting. it might have just been nothing but im looking too much into it bc i can- as i talked abt w oso and as im gonna talk abt again, the ais kind of losing each matsu one by one is really compelling to me, and i get the feeling choro is gonna be the next one to go. maybe kara will make some sort of comment like ‘hmph its just u and be bruzzahs’ (*wow i should rp kara /j /hj*) and how did a choromatsu discussion turn into a karamatsu gush sjfklf
ichimatsu- i love his little side plot/development with the origami hehe thats a cute hobby for him; the whole radio show thing going on hes just weird this season jsdkf- but hes also already angsty w the whole things about the riceballs; like i talked abt with choro i really want to see how he reacted to them/why he reacted the way he did expanded upon more. the last episode where he interacted w the riceballs a lot was so good; the choro thing kind of reminds me what i love about this season so far, it has a lot of the brothers just being brothers yk
jyushimatsu- not much from him yet except for also kind of falling off the side of the riceballs- hes been really really cute this season though like when the ais were playing shogi <33 hes just so sweet i wish all jyushi kins and likers a very good evening
todomatsu- GOD THE EPISODE WHERE HE LIKED THE GIRL FROM THE STORE MADE ME CRY i am not joking. well more like tear up but still- it also might have made me cry bc i love kara so much and i was jealous but were gonna ignore that, i LOVE totty being in luv! even if its with a girl who only talked to him out of courtesy lmao im pretty certain theyre not going to do anything w her again but that whole arc was just so ‘classic totty’
totoko/nyaa- THEY ARE LESBIANS!! I’m so so happy we’re getting more development for nyaa bc i love her a lot and im happy we’re getting to see how totoko acts outside of hanging w the matsus/being w her family on her own; the wrestling thing is funny jdkg but i loved the episode where they came up w the idea so much (poor choro) nyaa with a ponytail is something i never knew i needed
the AIs/Riceballs- i still don’t trust them; they had like ONE cute moment but fr they freak me out, they had one moment in an episode that actually creeped me out like it was some dystopian horror anime (/srs) the ignoring oso thing is interesting doe- I was a little skeptical of them adding new main characters when we already have such an established cast of iyami, chibita, etc (although they haven’t been used that much this season sadly, it is still only a few episodes in tho) but i feel like it’s working so far! i should have had confidence the crew could do it jfk
other: the theme song is so so good i rewatch it every day and the ending is so cute (totoko+nyaa lesbians!!), the animation is as great as ever and even slightly improved in some parts?? for the little commercial images (eyecatcher type things) i dont know how i feel about the slightly changed artstyle yet but ill get used to it; the first episode made me laugh so hard the kny ref was perfect and the seiyuus always make me laugh so that bit was great too
