Question about the AROFAM Au. How does the Day Of Unity and S3 special's plot line work given. . .well, everything.

Simple! I had to change basically everything.

obviously due to the nature of the au, and trying to keep everyone mostly still in character, the day of unity would make no sense at all to exist, so it...doesn't.

instead, in order to create a plot similar to the show to hit a lot of similar beats, i took the titan trappers and make them into more prominent characters/villains

so instead of a day of unity, it's their ritual to sacrifice king to free the collector, after years of earning their way to power and finding a new disk (The disk Philip was hiding in his basement)

and instead of the plan to be to stop the draining spell, it's a plan to save king's life and prevent the collector from being released (Collector has been convinced alongside Lilith they're going to save them, have no idea king would die for it)

also also, Philip, due to breaking his deal with collector and making him mad, is just...terrified of him, so everyone is under the impression freeing him will cause massive consequences

day of unity instead involved infiltrating the ritual space and getting both king and the disk out from under the trapper's noses, philip and caleb are going after the disk, kiki and steve were in charge of going for king.

Everyone else was there to make the escape and heist easy

(Yes this became a heist episode, which i think is funny payoff for the raiding these guys do in this au, truly the ultimate raid)

and yes, that does change other episodes like Edge of the World, tho they do still find out king is a titan in that so that plot point sticks.

you still have king releasing collector, but the context is slightly different and there are plenty unique heartbreaking elements to this au's version of KT.

Like Philip and Caleb getting into a fight right before being separated in different dimensions due to philip sacrificing himself to stay on the isles to face his punishment (Which obviously leads to different dynamics in s3 where king is hanging out alongside philip and Lilith whilst eda and luz are stuck on earth)

s3 has the unique thing of having caleb be stuck with all the kids on earth after being gone so long, seeing how things have changed and coping with the regret of his brother being gone after he promised they'd never seperate like that again.

darius and eber are there of course so they all gotta manage the kids and get to all catch up, while eda is out there in beast form.

all the stuff with camilia seeing luz, which is a pile of angst in itself, especially since she and caleb become grief friends and he appears to be harboring her missing daughter.

the whole rescue mission to get philip back in FTF, reuniting with kiki whose now the rebel leader actually, eda and lilith uniting after so many dang years, and the finale that's more about talking down the collector and befriending him rather then a big old fight.

and that's just me summarizing stuff, there's a lot i'm just skimming over

but as you can tell, i changed stuff, added new and unique stuff, and put a lot of thought into still making it a swap au whilst making things still unique.

My personal concept/hcs 4 harpy hunter :3

I didn’t want to give him the exact same design principles as Eda (+ Lilliths) harpy forms since they would be originating from vastly different sources (demon bird things?? vs. palisman) but they get similar vibes!! Because my boy is a clawthorne god bless.

-He gets shorter instead of taller. Which makes sense to me because the owl beasts were like pretty sizable and flapjack was an itty guy.

-His hands change more than curse harpy’s do (only 3 fingers get fucked lol). His ears stay the same tho since his harpy form is less of a mash of the host + bird and more so a blend originating from da power of love and friendship

-His wings r smaller!! Not only because he’s younger and smaller but also they’re better for tight turns and overall agility

-In general his harpy form is a lot less combat oriented and more so built for silly shenanigans and flight. He is very fluffy and his hair gets longer. And he has tail feathers bcus I said so. Smaller tidbit, but he has both his original magenta eyes and brown eyes in harpy form

OH BOY I'M IN WARRIORS TERRITORY so uuuh. hexsquad's warrior names... Luz's would obviously have to be Light something. I can't think what tho. Lightbeam? Lightstep? Willow maybe Willowflower? Willowleaf? Amity's... Hhmm... Can I like, name my kit Amitykit? Amity is basically friendship, right? It's a word... Idk. I'm open to ideas. I have no idea what name Gus would have tho, like, at all. And Hunter could be... Goldenhunter? Sounds siiick, and later on he could change the Golden part to something else... GAAAAAAH I love warrior cats so much, I have thousands of ideas

YAYYY MORE AUTISM CROSSOVER!!!! i do have warrior designs in the works for some toh characters too— hexsquad and some of the adults! here’s my interpretation of their names:

Luz— Lightshine!! no real thoughts on this one, it was just an instant “oh she’d be Lightshine” for me. i just knew that was her name. Lightheart would be a close second tho

Amity— Moonglow! i think her mom would give her the moon prefix as a kind of “look how special my child is” thing like thriftear and bayshine are doing with moonpaw in the books, adding to the pressure she felt to be perfect. might sound like a cop out because of the elders’ quest, but “moon” only being used rarely/in special instances is not an uncommon fanon concept lmao. plus amity’s moon motif yknow. i hesitated to make her suffix anything light related (the “amity became a 2 dimensional love interest whose only personality was luz’s gf” interpretation boils my blood), but i really do think -glow suits her disposition s3 onward. she’s never been happier, her name should reflect that <3

Willow— leaning towards Willowthorn! her innocent, sweet-sounding prefix did not keep her from a tough girl suffix. i just like her name containing both sides of her, and thorn > claw/fang/etc bc Plant

Gus— i’m kind of stuck with him. Smoke___ maybe, bc the whole “smoke and mirrors” saying for illusions? i’m stretching i know. idk how i feel about deducing his whole personality to illusions but i can’t think of anything else to suit him. the obvious Gust___ prefix (since it sounds like Gus) doesn’t feel like it suits him, and Chameleon___ bc of emmiline is cute but it’s just such a mouthful

GG era Hunter— Golden___ obviously. maybe Goldenheart bc illusion of good/trust, or Goldenclaw as a display of power/strength. Goldenhunter makes sense but is just a little clunky for my taste

post-GG Hunter— Cardinalflight <3 not sure if Flapjack could work into his story but cardinals would still be significant somehow

Vee— Snake___? Serpent___? Pumpkin___? I’m stuck with her too bc her reclaiming her name was important to her character and idk how to translate that into a warrior name

Eda— Owlclaw (bc clawthorne)

Emperor’s Coven Lilith— i would say Ravenclaw also bc clawthorne but harry potter ruined that forever so idk. and Raventalon or Raventhorn (clawThorne) don’t really feel right to me. possibly Ravenheart for the same reasons as Goldenheart?

post-EC Lilith— Ravenlily!! the idea of eda’s canon nickname for her being in her new name was too cute to pass up, but not sure how it’d be explained in-universe. Ravenflower’s another good option that i probably like better as a general name, but it feels less personal to lilith specifically

Raine— Rainwhisper lmao. easiest name ever. i remember when they were introduced thinking “warrior cat ass name”

Belos— ___star obviously (but no actual relationship with starclan, just like he lied about the titan. nine lives actually would make sense tho but i’m not sure how he’d get them without starclan and without magic)

i don’t have the exact details for how my toh warriors au would work, except that luz starts out as a kittypet. whole “proving herself as a witch” arc -> “proving herself as a clan cat” arc, etc etc etc. the story would start when the kids (excluding gg hunter, whose early ascension to golden guard = earning his warrior name early) are apprentices, and they’d get their full names later once they came into their own as characters, like how apprentice povs work in the books

i imagine the clan systems would have to work a bit differently to align with the coven systems, but i’m not sure how. maybe the boiling isles is made up of one big clan, so belos would still be their corrupt leader, and earning your warrior name = joining a coven? and the clan reclaims warrior names into something better post-belos so the kids still get them??? idk. and i have No idea how king, hooty, eda’s curse, the palismen, etc fit into any of this either

also not sure how eda would fall into the whole clan situation since her entire thing is being an outsider, but gave her a warrior name anyway. maybe if prev paragraph was implemented she would just stay as owlpaw when she ran away as a big f u to the clan, or she just drops the suffix and go by owl??

NO idea how amphibia would work translated into the warriors world bc we can’t have amphibia without the frogs, but it’s at least fun to speculate about toh. i never really planned to flesh out full owlphibia warriors aus, but this ask certainly got me thinking lmao

mostly i just include their warrior names/headcanon descriptions in my silly little oc allegiances like a fun little easter egg for no one but myself <3 i’ll definitely post all the catified blorbo designs once i finish them tho!! and i’m open to suggestions for names i haven’t figured out yet!

Idk if it was ever said, but I have a little headcanon/theory that Masha is Russian

Basically, the only thing It's based on is their name, bc Masha (Maria) is a Russian name, yeah, but I like this idea, bc there actually not so many Russian characters in media, and most of them are too stereotypical, so having a non-blonde Russian character is a super rare thing (Ik only Fyodor and Red Star who aren't blonde, so) that I want to have.

She also kinda looks asian, so I think she could be mixed. Since there are many nationalities in Russia, I would guess one of her parents is Slavic and the other one is Tatar

Also I think it makes sense for Eda, Lilith and Kikimora to be slavic, since they're based on Slavic culture characters (Baba Yaga, probably Kashchei the Immortal (she could also be based on Lilith from Jewish culture, but we'll take the slavic part now, bc of Eda, Kiki and some other references) and Kikimora). Name "Eda" exists in many cultures, including such slavic cultures as Russian, Ukrainian and Croatian, so Eda could be either

While name Lilith doesn't exist in slavic countries. It's related to Jewish mythology, but also is Armenien name. Armenia isn't slavic tho, but it was a part of the USSR and partly a part of Russian Empire, but even so the cultures are completely different and Armenia doesn't include slavic mythology anyways, so there is definitely a cunfusion, since we can see that Dana took different things from different cultures for the same family. And mixing different cultures right (if doing it at all) is super hard. So, Lilith was most likely based on a Jewish demon, but plays a role of Kashchei the Immortal, who was Baba Yaga's "evil brother". It's also interesting how Lilith is the only known Clawthorne female family member whose name doesn't end with "lyn" (Edalyn, Gwendolyn, Evelyn). So I could make a crazy theory that Lilith and Eda are half sisters and Gwen is only Eda's biolgical mother, while Lilith has a different biolgical mother who is Jewish (and may be Dell is Jewish too??). It kinda also explains why Lilith and Gwen's hair are so different and why Gwen didn't pay enought attention to Lilith (besides Eda having a curse), which is actually really sad...

Yeah, I know It's just random thoughts/theories and probably have nothing to do with canon, but now this idea seems even more interesting to me. Even tho I didn't plan any of these and just wanted to share my hc about Masha's nationality...

Last year, I kept this IZ X TOH au between myself and my best friend, but I kinda wanna talk about it now since @thechaoticlittlejester wanted to revive it and add their ideas too! (They’re rlly smart and cool so follow them :3)

Anywayyy here’s what my idea last year was like

No, it doesn’t take part in the Boiling Isles, it takes place in the normal IZ universe

It’s kinda more like a sequel of invader Zim that takes place 3 years after the Florpus incident, but the characters have personality traits from the TOH characters

All the weird things from Boiling Isles happens on earth

Example: Grom is actually an alien who wanted to kill Zim (because of course it did) and went to Earth to seek revenge coincidentally during Prom in skool!

Humans are still stupid and didn’t really care much about the weird happenings and thought Grom was just some failed science experiment from chemistry class or something

ANYWAY MOVING ONTO MORE ZIMPORTANT DETAILS-

This is a really complicated thing to say buttt- some IZ characters have more than one TOH character role/story

Example: Gaz is mainly in Eda’s place, but also has the character traits and development of Willow’s (because she’s also the reliable one in the story and pretends she isn’t suffering)

And Zim is mainly in Amity’s role, but also has King’s kind of story (like- King thought he was the King of demons when he wasn’t, and Zim thought he was the best invader when he’s actually defective)

(BUT ZIM DOESNT HAVE KING’S *ROLE* BECAUSE THIS IS A ZADR STORY AND DIB IS LUZ IN THIS AU!! HE ONLY HAS KING’S *STORY*)

Like it’s not really your standard [FAVE SHOW] as [OTHER FAVE SHOW] AU! It’s just a fan made Invader Zim sequel with stories based on TOH’S stories! (And this AU is mainly about Gaz, Dib and Zim’s shenanigans)

And of course, it’s really gonna be out of character for Dib and Zim because they’re a lot nicer since they’re in Luz and Amity’s roles kdkedmdkdkdkd

Now time to explain the character roles:

Dib as Luz!

I know Dib as Amity sounds like it makes more sense, but I chose Dib as Luz because they’re both excluded by everyone in skool, they have “weird” interests, and Prof Membrane would probably want to send Dib to a “real science” camp like how Camila wanted to send Luz to the “normal” camp. (Also both Luz and Dib are dorky dorks lolll)

Zim as Amity!

It’s not justtt because of the ZADR as Lumity thing, it’s also because Zim wants to be the Tallests’ “star student” or in this case, star invader. And like how Amity had that amulet that controlled her, Zim’s PAK had a program that made him loyal to the Tallests (which he would break later on). Also, Zim killed Miyuki with a flesh eating BLOB, and that reminds me of abomination goo loll

So in this AU, the Irkens use those kinds of blobs to create weapons (like how the Blight Industries use abomination goo to make abomatons)

Lastly, in this AU, Zim reads to kids. It sounds out of character but I would like to think that over the years, he’s actually great with kids because he’s been dealing with Gir lolll- (also Zim’s a dad to his minions in my heart, shushhhh)

Gaz as Eda! Even tho she takes Eda’s role, she’s still Dib’s younger sister. Anyway, she takes Eda’s role because she’s sassy and acts like she doesn’t care but does. Also, in this AU, Gaz secretly has a curse, and has an uncontrollable pig demon form.

The reason why she kept it a secret is because she knew how crazy Dib is over supernatural / paranormal creatures and is scared that he would reveal it to everyone. (But Dib accidentally kindaaa gave her away to the Swollen Eyeball and had to rescue her— like how Eda was taken away by the Emperor’s Coven and Luz had to save her)

Tak as Hunter!

Tak somehow manages to get out of her janitor job and became the Lavender Guard of the Tallests. She still hates Zim and had that “Amity vs Hunter” fight with her. She’s also still a cringefail depressed emo like Hunter-

Gir as Hooty!

Both Hooty and Gir Are craAAaAaaAzyyyy beings who might secretly be Gods.

Okay seriously though- Gir once possessed Zim’s entire base and made it move around, which is literally like the plot Hooty’s Moving Hassle where Hooty gets possessed and moves around too.

Plus I’d like to think that Gir would wanna prove himself to Zim and make some Tunnel of Love thing like how Hooty did to make ZADR canon! (Except this Tunnel of Love is more disturbing and has literal human hearts. Whose hearts were those? Nobody knows…)

Drama time! One of Gwendolyn’s attempts to cure Eda and Pip traumatized the poor boy so much that he has a panic attack when he sees her and is really uncomfortable even talking about her.

Gwendolyn doesn’t realize this at first and accidentally ends up causing him more trauma with her latest attempt to cure them alongside Luz but when she finally does realize that she’s very hurt by it, especially since it ends up damaging further her relationship with her daughter and nephew to the point that Eda tells her to not show up anymore or else she will take more drastic measures to keep her out of their life.

Thank you sm for this ask but also why did you have to hurt me so much? Like what was the reason /j

But yeah that’s more or less what I was actually planning on happening :D tho minus Pip being so traumatised he can’t even see or be near Gwen, which in hindsight makes so much sense omg and I can’t believe I overlooked that idea completely??

Especially wild I did overlook it in the first place, as I already had plans of Pip being extremely avoidant/ anxious of Palisman as a trauma response to when Belos forced him to snack on quite a few when he was younger, in order to see if it could possibly cure the curse in Pip when it just first started physically showing due to not being as developed as Belos’ and so Pip already has a history of not taking people trying to non-consensually cure his curse too well which would have definitely spiralled after Gwen’s attempts on both him and Eda and caused him to specifically feel that Gwen is a threat to his safety and Eda’s (who he is already really protective of in general and even more so when it comes to her curse)

(Also Oof I’m so sorry for taking so long to answer, I had originally seen this ask, replied, thought I posted it, forgot all about it and then didn’t realise until now that I actually haven’t when I saw this still in my drafts TwT)

I wanted to add on to your disability rep thing because Hunter exists and is either just as bad or worse. After all, both Eda and Hunter only get relief from their issues, Hunter's being the inability to use magic when this is a society where that's expected from any able bodied person, at the expense of others. That to allow characters like Eda and Hunter to fit in or be happy, they must be a burden to others. For Eda, it was sharing her curse with Lilith, cutting hers in half, yes, but now making the burden hurt more people besides herself. For Hunter, it literally comes at the expense of his best friend's life. And in both, its presented as a gift and kindness by the able bodied person to take this burden of theirs away. Just with Flapjack it's a bit more tragic.

I also want to point out that never do Hunter or Eda surprise you by showing that just because they're disabled, they're not invalid. Eda gets captured/has her life threatened LESS in S2 than in S1 when she now has glyph magic, which also effectively negates the handicap she has due to her disability. Hunter gets ONE moment to be like "No staff, no problem" and even then, it doesn't get him his staff back and he is still entirely powerless against LUZ without it.

The show's stance on disability seems to be that yes, you're allowed to live your life, you can do that, but you are still lesser and weaker and put others in danger because of it and while yes, many disabled people need help, plenty with disabilities are entirely independent and if anyone could have shown that, shouldn't it have been the Golden Guard and the most powerful witch in the Isles?

ohhhh i hate hate hate how many people got hurt due to eda's curse. sure i guess thats just the nature of it but all its telling me is "disabled people hurt the ones they love by being disabled" if that makes sense. this is a very good point i hadn't even considered

the hunter point is also really good even tho i dont really consider him to be too disabled imo (cuz demons also dont have magic, right? then that would be disabling and entire species and theres the social model of disability i would recommend looking into) but if hunter was written to be disabled then that's something i cant disagree with, yaknow? either way he has some sort of impairment since its expected of him to have magic, but i just see it more akin to glasses users since he has his staff and whatnot. It's still bad that they had him be essentially cured as well though

anyways yeah, it really pisses me off that so many people got hurt by eda's curse cuz again all its saying is that youre going to hurt the people you love if you become disabled. and not to mention that dell becomes disabled too because of it and due to that eda stops talking to him.

so basically all im getting is 1. if i accept my disabilities i will be cured 2. i will always hurt the people i love by being disabled 3. my disabilities are a superpower, like thanks The Owl House™

i am curious about eda though. like i know she was really powerful not just because she didn't join a coven but because she's just like. powerful but it also might be different with the fact that they're in covens and trying to do wild magic. i also think it might be different to send yourself into someone's mind as well... but i could be wrong :P

What's weird about the whole "They didn't have time to focus on Caleb and Evelyn's backstory" argument is that a good chunk of "For the Future" relied on using Boscha and Kikimora, two antagonists who were irreverent by the end of Season 2. If there was time to focus on them, why not just cut them out so the plot is focused more on the Hexsquad learning more about Belos' past while trying to evade the Collector's forces?

honestly i'm not sure why the backstory wasn't higher on the list of things to cover in the finale

like it would be one thing if there wasn't that much focus on it, so there were no expectations for it to get more then it did, but the show kept on adding stuff to this backstory and keeps drawing attention towards it

so the fact it gives it so much attention and then leaves it entirely to be inferred is really strange to me

like this is the main antagonist's backstory, and you almost entirely can miss most of it if you're a casual watcher of the show, that's how vague it is and how much of it consists of details you can miss

like i said, i don't hate the idea of a story you can figure out in the bg, but there was SO much focus on it and so much not clear, that it's so unusual how dropped it is

like even in regards to Philip himself, it's basically not treated as relevant to his own motivations, so you kinda just wonder why give it the focus they do if they didn't really wanna use it that much?

like maybe i could forgive that on the basis of them wanting to save it for a spinoff or something, but even so, not having any payoff for it in the main series is a little irritating. Especially since the team didn't know if they would get a spinoff to tell the story at all.

tbh i think both kiki and bosha were already fine where they ended, i was satisfied with kiki's last big scene being her finally disavowing belos and playing a part in his failure, and bosha....well she hasn't mattered much since s1 and that was fine. I'm not sure why they got time....but others who needed it did not.

tho after the last posthoot, i almost get the vauge idea the crew doesn't have a full wittebane backstory.

It sounds like they have some outline for what happened, but not a full detailed story, given how dana sounded like she was spittballing the love story off the top of her head, it kinda leaves me wondering just how much thought HAD been put into the story compared to the fans.

and as someone who is working on the wittebane collab project and got assigned a role about continuity and detail, trust me when i say trying to figure out a cohesive timeline where all these details make sense is painful.

(Ex: EaE seems to be post fight cause philip is already making grimwalkers, and the door when eda found it had a scratch on it, implying it was damaged in the fight. Cept in EaE philip supposably just gathered the ingredients, so the portal wasn't made yet so like🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ )

it's a genuinely interesting story that i can't help but get the impression the crew didn't care as much about compared to the fans, which kinda stinks because the villain backstory should have a bit more thought put into it since it drives the plot as much as it does.

i love the crew, but this is a case where i do feel their priorities were skewed a little and i personally don't know why they put as much focus on caleb as they did given it doesn't get a true conclusion in the show. It does add for hunter's character and gives a plot reason to get back to the isles but outside of those two things it's kinda almost irrelevant in the end, especially with philip.

Is King the actual ruler of the isles in the age swap au?

Good question!

See he's not the ruler. He tried it out when he first got to the Isles but he decided it wasn't for him at all. He is very important to the structure of the government tho.

In this au King was born several hundred years before when he's born in canon. There was no Eda to take him so he just spent his time growing up in that tower he was born in.

He decided to leave after he got too big for the place. He found the boiling isles and since he was already pretty big the people pieced together that he might be a titan.

They declared him their leader for a bit but King hated it, it wasn't fun at all he had to deal with making up rules so everyone is happy, there was so much paperwork and the people were too afraid to speak to him at all. He made the decision to step down but kept the title they gave him "king" as his name cuz he just liked it :')

King has adapted to be some sort of advisor to whatever government the boiling isles had formed. Absolutely nothing is decided without getting King's blessings first. Ironically this also comes with a bunch of paperwork but it's more manageable so he's fine with it.

I was thinking the Boiling Isles' government in this au would consist of the coven heads!

They still have magic separated into the different covens (with the exception of the emperor's coven) but you don't have to limit yourself to them, you can combine magic however you like and of course there are no sigils.

Also on rare occasions one coven head can be in charge of two of the covens if they're really good at both types of magic! For example Viney in this au is head of both the healing and beast keeping coven!

So to get back to King (sorry for the tangent) he's not in charge in the traditional sense at least, he doesn't make up the rules but it's required that any rule introduced needs to be discussed with him first to see if he's ok with it. They are living on his father after all and they kinda consider King the closest thing they have to communicating to the titan they live on.

Sorry matt maybe im just cruel but my fav vversion of romantic gustholomule is when matt catches feelings first but cannot express them and doesn t want to but gus is very friendly and already claimed matt as his friend so they hang out a lot (in the same classes sińce matt joined illusion track for no other reason than his sudden interest in illusion magic obviously!! The same club + gus is one of his few in not the only friend). Matt is too pround and awkward to communicate his feeling (platonic ones too) but constantly expresses them thru actions (can also be takes as platonic gus&matt)=> going out to find more human junk to talk with gus about/figure out what was it used for.

He d definetly visit the Owl lady for the human stuff/stories (and his and edas dynamics would be soo fun)

He d observe and study gus illusion techniques and once gus catches on he d offer to tutor matt/get curious about the construction magic as well.

The potential of gus creating illusion of statues/etc and matt actually being able to recreate them with his magic.

Maybe they d create human exhibition but in order to make it more interesting for other students they d make together replicas which students could touch while having the actual "artefact" disolayed

And gus meeting steve! And they d vibe so much, teaming up and teasing matt while he gets jealous of how quickly they became friends(? lack of a better word)

They d pull pranks together tho not that many since gus doesn t like "that mean" pranks and matt finds some of gus s elaborate plans ridiculous

This was supposed to be more about their romantic side of relationship but i got lost and them being besties is also soo good</3

I LOVE them being besties cuz they're just so funny. They have this vibe about them that makes them seem so different at first glance but if you sit down and listen to them have a conversation, you realize they're both scheming little gremlins who love chaos and it makes perfect sense why they're friends.

If Matt with the feelings first is what we're calling cruel than I hate him and want him to never have a good day for as long as he lives. But mostly I just think the idea is funny because the Holy Trifecta of spiteful assholes who keep falling for the original trio of "losers" needs to be completed. It feels unfinished.

Although I'm very much in the opinion that it's not for a long while. So anywhere from a year from now to three. So Gus and Matt have this perfect platonic foundation with no feelings attached whatsoever and it's GREAT. And then feelings hit Matt out of fucking NOWHERE, completely unprovoked like an eternity later and he's like "are you fucking SERIOUS?? This is bullshit!! It's bullshit!!" Because in his own opinion, its gonna ruin everything.

Because YEAH. Long before the feelings started, Matt wasn't even able to articulate to Gus that he cared about him as a friend. I like to believe it stems from his former "friendship" with the glandus kids, where Matt fell into the habit of grovelling and asskissing because he was desperate for any scrap of approval. He was pathetic and he knows he was pathetic and now he tries really hard to never repeat that kind of behavior with anyone else. As such, he's adopted a level of emotional detachment so he's never taken advantage of again. He doesn't want Gus knowing he's dependent on him in the way that was made obvious to the glandus kids as he doesn’t want Gus seeing him as pathetic. So he keeps him at arm's length.

So how the FUCK is he supposed to navigate anything resembling romance with him? He doesnt know and he doesnt want to know. He fucking won't do shit about it I guess.

But yeah he DID join the Illusion classes partly because he was inspired by Gus, most specifically the awesome horrifying shit Gus did to Bria. But also Mattholomule spent a lot of time in the Looking Glass Ruins with Gus and that ghost guy, building defenses and repairing the damage as best he could and he really did learn a lot. Not only is Gus a powerful witch but he's also a prodigy who skipped a few grades so of course he's gonna know a ton about illusionist history and the like.

So Gus and ghost guy are there in rapt discussion about Django the Mirror King and whatnot while Matt builds walls and pretends to be uninterested. Eventually he caves and asks to be told more. Because not only is Gus a brilliant illusionist himself but he's the kind of bright passionate person that could probably pitch anything to anyone and make it sound awesome. Huge reason why Matt got sucked into multitrack in the end. Gus's enthusiasm is contagious.

Also yeah. Matt DOES stuff. Can't tell Gus he's cool or his magic is really powerful or anything all that nice but he'll do things that will make Gus's day brighter, which holds this friendship afloat. Attends all of Gus's flyer derby games, eventually resigns as H.A.S president so Gus can have his title back because "It's waaaaay too much work and I'm sick of it. But I bet a nerd like you will get a kick out of it." And yeah, finding little human knicknacks for Gus too geek out over, like a cat dropping dead mice on a doorstep.

He's just constantly showing his appreciation for Gus in little gestures and Gus IS aware of it. He doesn't mock him for it much but he often smirks and says "thank you Matty <3" a little too obnoxiously. Matt responds by shooting an earth mound out of the ground beneath Gus's feet and making him eat the pavement. <3

I've always been on the fence over whether Matt was actually into human stuff or if this was just an interest he faked to get into the H.A.S because he noticed the president's widdle baby face and figured he'd be an easy target to usurp. But if its the latter, I like to believe he at least got somewhat invested after he became friends with Gus. Again, Gus's contagious enthusiasm. I kinda like the idea that Matt isn't huge into human stuff himself but he now knows just about everything Gus knows because he lets Gus ramble at him. He claims to be annoyed by it, which only encourages Gus to run his mouth more. They have a neat system going here.

Tutoring hell ya!!! Gus teaching Matt like one illusion spell "for fun" while they're dicking around and Matt does a surprisingly good job. Gus is astonished.

"Wow. You nailed that one. You sure you've never studied illusions?"

"It's kinda hard not to pick up on it while I constantly gotta look at you flaunting your little smoke and mirror shows all the time."

"So what you're saying is....you've been observing my spells and copying me? :)"

"Don't get a big head, Augustus. You're so little, it'll knock you off balance."

"I'm bigger than you!"

I think the idea of Gus being so enthusiastic about construction spells and wanting Matt to teach him some is so cute. But also it'd be so funny if Gus was like. Completely fucking garbage at it. He tries and he tries, but instead of feeling shitty about it (his whole conflict from TTLGR) he feels comfortable enough to laugh about it. He's just having fun. Matt laughs too and teases him over it but doesn't mock him with anything close to the nastiness he had before, which is when Gus realizes that the two of them might very well be friends now.

Could definitely see Gus branching out more and trying to get more people aboard the human appreciation wagon. Like at this point he's actually been in the Human Realm and learned a ton so he's now more than an expert than he's ever been. So he's out here giving full out TED talks to the students, writing papers, building exhibits. Matt complains to anyone who will listen "He's gone crazy over this stuff. He's always been crazy about it but now its next level. Completely obsessed. I can't stand it."

"He says you have been helping him every step of the way."

"Sure I have. What's your point?"

Gus would LOVE Steve. Matt hates it. Steve embarrasses him in front of Gus. Gus embarrasses him in front of Steve. They're both bustards!!

I feel like they're destined to be pranking little delinquents together. But yeah they probably bicker and disagree too much that not many plans are executed. Matt gets way too carried away that before he realizes it he's suggesting absolutely evil shit and Gus has to be like "Think about that for more than two seconds."

"Right."

Meanwhile Gus had busted out corkboards full of elaborate plans for pranks and a thirty minute powerpoint presentation. (Yes he owns a human projector.) Matt is just like "This sounds like way too much work to be fun. Can't we just shoot spitballs or something?"

you gotta understand I was not lying when I said I have 5 pages of a google doc worth of comic ideas. Unfortunately it's still kind of a mess and I'm still sorting out some of the basic dynamics of this AU. I also like the idea of keeping most of my notes and making them into their own comics/posts so idk how I feel about just saying stuff in a list AND YET.

So here's some stuff I think I can say outside of a comic?? I’ll still probably make some of these into comics/doodles, but anyway I hope this is what you were looking for.

Hunter:

Hunter gets very into studying wild magic up close, something he wasn't allowed to do much before. But now he lives in the forest surrounded by wild magic. Because of this I plan for him to discover a few glyphs on his own, like Luz does, mainly the plant one. But you’ll see how that goes later ;)

He's also still trying to cure his uncles curse. He insists he's not going to go back to Belos, but if pressed on why he's searching for a cure for a man he plans to never see again, he'll get very defensive and angry. Sometimes it's not as easy as "I'm leaving and never coming back." sometimes you still wanna help the people who hurt you :P and THAT one is from personal experience

Hunter takes a while to really get into the whole “I’m on my own and can do whatever I want” thing, but I plan for him to mess around with his presentation once he gets more comfortable.

Rascal helps him change his eye bandages! I haven’t decided if his eye is damaged yet or just the area around it tho so stay tuned.

Hunter will often assign himself “missions” to go on because he doesn’t know what else to do with his free time. He knows he doesn’t technically have any deadlines or stuff like that anymore but he gets stressed not having a goal to strive towards so to cope he just.. gives himself arbitrary goals !

Funfact! This is not the first time Hunters pissed Belos off so bad that he’s fled the castle for a moment. But it IS the first time he stays away for this long. 

Home Hunter AU subscribes to the “Hunter is the grimwalker/a clone of Belos’ brother” theory just for extra angst. I kind of like the idea that he wasn’t even a big part of Belos’ plans though, just that Belos saw a chance to “Bring back” his brother and went for it fsdfsfsdf.

Hunter is terrified of relying on someone too much because no matter how much he trusts them, they could always kick him out. And he’d rather kick himself out before they get the chance. Boys still got issues, is what I’m saying. 

Because Hunter lives in the woods he starts to get a bit... Feral. People will not see him for a week only to realize he’s been not showering or changing his clothes. He was never the most normally-socialized kid but now he’s in the habit of hissing at people the way he does at wild animals that encroach on his tent.

Hunter is very possessive of his belongings (he has so few) and will tackle you if you try to take something from him without asking. He also hoards food and has trouble sharing it, but he feels a bit more embarrassed about this habit than others so he tries to hide it.

Luz:

Luz is basically the first person Hunter reaches out to after living in the woods for a few weeks, and she’s the only one he trusts, at first. 

She offers to let Hunter stay at the owl house a LOT, and sometimes he does :D ! But usually only if it’s raining or he has an injury he can’t heal himself, or if they’re just hanging out. 

Luz’s Super Secret Sad Boy plan is to try to trick Hunter into staying at the owl house for extended periods of time, so that he eventually doesn’t want to go back to the forest. She brings it up A LOT. This has yet to work though, because Hunter feels very uncomfortable about not understanding their family dynamic. That and it makes him feel a bit worse about his own. (kind of like when you go to your friends house and their parents are nice, so you cry afterwards. But to the extreme that he has trouble relaxing cause he’s viscerally aware of how much he doesn’t feel like he fits in.)

Luz tried to teach Hunter glyphs but he brushed it off. 1. because he’s still nervous about wild magic lmao but 2. because he didn’t think he needed to learn them since he has Rascal. He only starts looking into them when he personally finds them in nature on his own. After that point he starts eavesdropping on Lillith and Eda’s glyph lessons and hijinks ensue.

Lillith:

I’m actually super down for the idea that Lillith would bond with goldie in some way. They both know what Belos is like so they can bitch about him together!

I’m also a fan of the “Lillith regrets calling Hunter a brat” idea. Idk if she’s canonically seen his face or anything but I like to think that, at least NOW, she sees him for what he really is. A poor little meow meow. 

That being said don’t think that Mom!Eda is out for the count. They’re  ✨ co-parents  ✨ and I like to think they bring different things to the table when it comes to caring about Hunter. Raine might show up eventaully too :D. They still can’t get him to move out of the woods tho.

Belos:

Not much to say about him and his plans yet, but what usually happens when Hunter runs off after upsetting Belos is that he comes back a few hour/days later with something to win back Belos’ favor. So the emperor isn’t concerned at first, but then a week passes, and then another. 

In this AU Belos is very protective of Hunter but in a weird, possessive, fucked up way. Basically, he’s convinced himself that nothing is really a threat to him or Hunter (since he trained Hunter personally and believes in his nephews abilities). He was never afraid of Hunter being killed or leaving him cause he never considered those things as possibilities. So when Hunter doesn’t come back and is seen actively avoiding him, he goes a little apeshit? But like in a subtle way? Like, he’s losing it but quietly lmao. BASICALLY I do have plan for Belos to attempt to do a lot of stuff to catch/coerce Hunter, and maybe he succeeds! We’ll see.

once again i am advertising my reverse au. lilith has The Worst Time ever because she winds up stranded in the castle after like. season 1 finale. there is only one chill adult (chill is very relative and onlu applies half the time) and its hunter. god i should post more about that au lmao its so FUN

uagghhhh um. so many of my hc about her are from YOU its theivery but uh a few of my own (mostly family dynamics lmao):

shes the kind of gal to chew on her pens and have them explode in her face

i imagine gwen was more focused on like. eda as a kid (she was a bit of an overbearing mother and so if one of her kids was in distress/unwell/needed help she would focus all attention on fixing their issue be it sickness or homework. and most of the time that was eda because lilith made more of an effort to keep straight As and Follow the Rules) so lilith wa sleft to her own decives a lot (espeically since I HC dell wasn't arounf as much as he wanted to be bc of work) so shes independent and super weird about accepting help
