Arriving at Hogwarts at the tender age of eleven to be told that the entirety of Wizarding society were all rampant sexual deviants was something of a shock to the young Hermione Granger.
Hermione, face a flaming Gryffindor red, had protested wildly at the thought of girls being reduced to nothing more than - than breeding pigs! Had she known, why, she would hardly have stepped foot into Diagon Alley -
“Well, of course it wasn’t in your admission letter, Miss Granger.” Unperturbed, Professor McGonagall had sniffed at her over her wire-rimmed glasses. “You’ll hardly be surprised that even the most open-minded Muggle parents find even the most euphemistic explanation of alpha-to-omega dynamics rather - well, hard to swallow.”
Young Hermione mumbled something under her breath that sounded suspiciously close to ‘breeding pigs’, which McGonagall caught. The older witch frowned disapprovingly.
“I see that Miss Brown and Miss Patil have been filling your head with scare stories. Biscuit, Miss Granger?”
Sulkily, Hermione took a piece of shortbread.
McGonagall pulled off her spectacles, polishing them idly on her sleeve. “Modern Wizarding society has evolved a multitude of ways to handle our unique biology. It is the height of indecency to gallivant around without a good Suppressor spell - witches are certainly not destined to become ‘breeding pigs’, as you so eloquently put it - nor is anyone expected to mate, whether it be for life or temporarily. Here -”
She waved her wand, and a thin, leatherbound book floated over to Hermione.
The Introductory Guide to the Omegaverse: a Practical Guide, by K. Nott.
“This should answer your questions. Chin up, child,” McGonagall said briskly, not without a little sympathy at Hermione’s baleful stare. “I promise you, this is a rich and fulfilling part of our world.”
Young Hermione remained deeply, viscerally sceptical.
Appreciation post for everyone explaining a joke in comments and posts when someone doesn't get it, for people willing to explain pop culture references that fly over someone's head, for people answering genuine questions about some issue someone has trouble understanding, for people who take enquiries about "common sensical" stuff in good faith, I love you <3
Thank you all for raising more than $2000 to the PCRF! Now that I've jumped into the river myself, I challenge @dungeonmastersconsortium, @pissvortex, @ayeforscotland, and @/Jacob Geller to Jump Into The River. Do the jump, keep the challenge going, and keep the conversation alive. From the river to the sea
