Getting Married... TWICE (sort of)
For those of you who are aware, the Marriage Equality Law was enacted in Thailand on September 24, 2024. As of right now, the law will come into effect on January 23, 2025. Two days to go!!!
I hold dual citizenship in the U.S. and Thailand. Now... given the state of Thai gender laws, the option for me to marry my partner of six years has been available to me since the beginning of our relationship. However, we had always agreed that since I identify as a transwoman, we would choose to wait for equal marriage in both countries before we discussed that option. It was very much based in the principle of the matter and not its legality. (Which, I know, was a more fortunate choice to have.)
Once we knew the Marriage Equality Law in Thailand was official... everything happened rather quickly. One moment we were talking about possibly getting married, and the next thing we knew we were applying for a marriage license. We were married at City Hall in New York by the middle of October.
The reason I'm even sharing any of this information is because I thought it would be interesting for people to have a peek at what it looks like to register a foreign marriage in Thailand... because the process involved a lot of particulars that neither my wife (I love using that word 😊😊😊) nor I were aware of.
Since we were unfamiliar with the process, I decided the best course of action would be to hire an agent to represent my case through the Thai Consulate. The first step was to authenticate my marriage certificate at the state level. Once the document was authenticated, it was submitted to the Thai Embassy for its legalization process. After the certificate is legalized, all submitted documents (including proof of identification) must be officially translated by a licensed government translator. Every step of the process involved the filling out and submitting of the appropriate forms for requests.
The rest of the process (for me) happened in Bangkok... where, you guessed it, I had to fill out more forms hehe.
It's a pretty standard procedure. You submit the documents you received from the Consulate, along with proof of identification and citizenship (which are presumably already in Thai), in order to request a form to update your "family status". Once all the final paperwork was summitted (during my final appointment at the Amphur's Office), it took a little over four hours to fully process. Now with my NYS Marriage Certificate and an approved KR22, my marriage is officially recognized in the U.S. and Thailand!!!
It's been a bit of a whirlwind, and I still get very emotional thinking about what it took to finally get here... both personally and in terms of the law. We still have a long way to go (come on "Gender Identity Recognition Act"🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾), but I'm sooo friggin happy that we're moving in the right direction.

Are you ready for it? A new Taylor Swift book inspired by her best outfits throughout the decades is headed for bookstores. The book titled Taylor Swift Style: Fashion Through the Erasdoesn’t come out until Oct. 8, but the buzz around it has already landed the tome as a No. 1 bestseller on Amazon for fashion design.
Longtime fashion blogger Taylor Swift Style (known offline as Sarah Chapelle) wrote the book and has garnered 240,000 followers on Instagram, along with being credited in publications such as Billboard, People, Harper’s Bazaar and more for her research. You can expect more than 200 photos of some of the “Delicate” singer’s most iconic looks, as well as insight into the hidden meaning behind each outfit. It’s no secret that Swift loves a good Easter egg, and Chapelle looks to delve into the effortless fusion of fashion and music through every red carpet gown and streetwear style that’s spotlighted.
“Taylor Swift Style: Fashion Through the Eras is a natural extension of my blog and Instagram account that combines detailed identification reporting with analyzing the intention behind each look — definitively capturing her style evolution across almost two decades,” Chapelle tells Billboard.
Each first-edition comes with a rainbow spine that’s symbolic of each era, as well as gold foiled pages, which Chapelle hopes will help “people see this book as something truly special and worthy of being displayed.”
What also sets her book apart from any other Swift books goes beyond the research. Chapelle has been listening to Swift’s music since 2006 and even saw her open for Rascal Flatts and Brad Paisley. Using the built-up knowledge and love of the “August” singer, she hopes that the amount of care and thought she put in will come to all who pick up a copy.
“I’ve been documenting Taylor’s fashion since 2011, providing not only the exact pieces she’s wearing, but also providing my personal insight and context on her clothes as a communication tool,” she says. “All my most significant firsts as a young female were easier to navigate and process because they were mirrored and comforted by the soundtrack that she wrote. I hope what comes across in this book — and in everything I do — is the level of care, thought and deep-rooted feelings that are there. I’ve been inspired by Taylor’s emotional authenticity for over half my life, and I hope that’s captured in these pages.”

II. Inappropriate Surrogate Relations
Despite the introduction of the Male Paternity Regulation and Evaluation Guide (MPREG), security audits and surveillance reviews have uncovered multiple incidents in which staff have failed to maintain appropriate boundaries with surrogates. These violations undermine the core principles of surrogate management and jeopardize operational efficiency by fostering unhealthy emotional dependencies and encouraging surrogate non-compliance.
Documented Breaches:
Unauthorized Physical Contact
Multiple reports indicate staff members engaging in “excessive belly-rubbing” under the guise of "medical check-ups," with some employees spending prolonged periods tracing stretch marks and remarking on the “impressive elasticity” of surrogate skin.
In one instance, an employee was observed resting his forehead against a surrogate's abdomen, citing an attempt to "listen for movement patterns."
Security footage captured a handler providing “unsanctioned belly massages” of seven late-term surrogates (immobile due to the size of pregnancies), commenting on the "firmness" and "size" even when surrogates protested the contact.
Surrogate Statement
"I kept telling him it wasn't necessary, but he just kept running his hands over my belly, saying he was 'checking for ripeness.' It felt weird—like he wasn’t even listening to me. I couldn’t move much, and he took advantage of that." — Surrogate S138-908-M, 30 days gestation with tridecuplets (13)
Employee Statement
"Listen, the bigger they get, the more we need to monitor things up close. You can’t just eyeball this stuff—you must feel it and assess how the skin’s stretching. If I rest my head on their stomach, it’s just to check fetal movement. Some of these guys have so many in there, it’s hard to tell what’s going on otherwise." — Handler, Employee ID# HS-138-033
Excessive Engagement During Lactation Sessions
Instances have been documented where staff members linger beyond their allotted monitoring times during surrogate lactation cycles, citing the need to "ensure maximum output."
Reports detail employees offering unsolicited physical contact during surrogate pectoral care, including lotion applications that fall outside their scope of responsibilities.
One employee was reprimanded after being discovered providing “oral collection,” allegedly to "maximize output," despite explicit prohibitions against direct interference.
Surrogate Statement
"He was supposed to check the pumps, but he just stood there watching… way too long. Then he started helping me put lotion on without asking. I told him I could do it myself, but he kept saying it was 'part of the procedure.' It made me really uncomfortable, but what am I supposed to do? I can’t exactly get up and leave." — Surrogate S111-334-L, 28 days gestation with dodecuplets (12)
Employee Statement
"I was just making sure he was comfortable! These guys leak all day; you wouldn’t believe the state of their skin. If I stay a little longer to make sure the lotion is applied evenly, it’s because I care about their well-being." — Lactation Technician, Employee ID# HS-111-115
Compromising Language
Audio logs indicate staff addressing surrogates using inappropriate language, such as:
Overripe
Milk Machines
Fetus Factories
Human Brooders
Staff have been overheard offering unnecessary commentary during routine examinations, with remarks such as”
A gut full of government property…
All belly, no brains…
His womb is bigger than his future…
That belly’s in its own zip code…
Push or pop, your choice…
I’ve seen parade floats smaller than him…
Surrogate Statement
"They act like we’re not even people. One called me a ‘baby factory’ right to my face. They joke about us like we’re nothing but our wombs and pecs. It’s humiliating. I hear them laughing, saying stuff like, ‘Another day, another pop and drops.’" — Surrogate S119-501-R, 23 days gestation with Octodecuplets (18)
Employee Statement
"It’s just harmless fun. You see the same thing every day. You gotta lighten the mood. Yeah, we joke around a bit—what’s the harm? We don’t mean anything by it. If calling them ‘overripe’ gets us to relax, then what’s the problem?" — Compound Attendant, Employee ID# HS-119-187
Misuse of Medical Equipment:
Several staffers were found to be conducting authorized medical check-ups, recording or imaging surrogates, raising concerns that these materials are being used for personal gratification or unauthorized sale.
Surrogate Statement
"I noticed one of the nurses recording me... at first I thought it was a medical checkup but then he followed me into the showers. They’re not checking for my health—they’re keeping it for themselves. It’s disturbing. I don’t know who’s looking at me." — Surrogate S127-672-N, 25 days gestation with Quattuordecuplets (14)
Employee Statement
"Look, sometimes you see something interesting, and you want to study it later. These guys carry huge loads, and it’s fascinating from a medical perspective. I may have saved a few pictures, but it’s strictly professional… mostly. If some of the guys take a peek after hours, well, that’s their business." — Medical Technician, Employee ID# HS-127-087
III. Rising Moral Hesitations
Data collected from exit interviews indicate an alarming decline in ethical standards across multiple paternity compounds, with widespread reports of staff failing to uphold professional boundaries in their interactions with surrogates.
Despite the implementation of the Male Paternity Regulation and Evaluation Guide (MPREG), surrogates have expressed discomfort and frustration with these breaches, noting that staff often dismiss or minimize their concerns. Meanwhile, employees continue to rationalize their actions, citing the unique challenges of surrogate management as justification for their behavior. The increasing frequency of these incidents signals a systemic failure to enforce ethical training and disciplinary measures, necessitating immediate corrective action to restore professional integrity and safeguard surrogate welfare.
IV. Proposed Ethics Training Enhancements
To mitigate these issues and strengthen staff resilience against ethical drift, the following measures are proposed:
Mandatory Hands-Off Policy Enforcement with Physical Barriers
A revised "Look, Don't Touch" policy will be implemented to combat the persistent issue of unauthorized physical contact. Staff will also undergo regular "hand discipline" exercises, reinforcing professional restraint techniques.
Behavioral Detachment Conditioning Program
Employees will participate in an intensive desensitization curriculum to mitigate emotional attachments and unhealthy fixations. Daily affirmations such as “Submission, Not Compassion” and “Productivity Over Personal” will be recited to reinforce emotional neutrality.
Milking Procedure Automation Initiative
In response to the growing concern of excessive lactation engagement, compounds will explore the use of fully automated milking stations, eliminating the need for staff to intervene manually. Advanced monitoring tools will ensure accurate data collection without physical oversight. Employees lingering in lactation zones will face immediate reassignment to less surrogate-focused duties.
Conclusion
The proposed enhancements to the ETP, including stricter enforcement measures, behavioral conditioning, and technological interventions, aim to address these concerns through deterrence, accountability, and operational improvements.
By implementing a robust hands-off policy, reinforcing professional detachment through targeted training, and introducing automation to reduce unnecessary interaction, the DRC can work towards restoring ethical discipline within the workforce. Ultimately, the success of these measures will depend on leadership commitment, ongoing surveillance, and a willingness to adapt training strategies to the evolving challenges of surrogate management.

Subject: RE: Comprehensive Review of the Ethics Training Program
While I acknowledge the concerns outlined in your report regarding ethical lapses, I must emphasize that operational productivity remains our primary focus. The reality is that our quotas are being met—exceeded, in fact—and that should be our key metric of success, not a handful of staff engaging in what I can only describe as “overenthusiastic” surrogate monitoring.
The bottom line is this: as long as the babies are born on schedule and our quotas are satisfied, I see no pressing need to disrupt compound operations with redundant policy enforcement and additional training.
Frankly, the incidents described—while colorful—reflect the unique demands of our workforce. Staff working closely with surrogates day in and day out are bound to find creative ways to “stay engaged,” and quite honestly, if a little belly rubbing keeps morale high and output consistent, I see no reason to intervene. After all, we're running a high-pressure operation, not a monastery.
I trust that my position on this matter is clear.
Continue monitoring for any gross misconduct that may threaten productivity, but let’s not get bogged down policing every lingering glance or overzealous stretch mark examination.
Director [REDACTED]

Cylinder Seal
Cylinder Seals were impression stamps used by the people of ancient Mesopotamia. Known as kishib in Sumerian and kunukku in Akkadian, the seals were used by everyone, from royals to slaves, as a means of authenticating identity in correspondence. In time, they came to be recognized as one's personal identification.
They originated in the Late Neolithic Period c. 7600-6000 BCE in the region known today as Syria (though, according to other claims, they originated later in Sumeria, modern Iraq) and were made from semiprecious stone (marble, obsidian, amethyst, lapis lazuli, to name only some) or metal (gold or silver). These seals were worn by their owners on strings of leather or other material around the neck or wrist or pinned to a garment.
The purpose of seals was to serve as a personal signature on a document or package to guarantee authenticity or legitimize a business deal; in the same way one signs a letter or form today or writes one's return address on an envelope or package to be mailed. The seal was rolled onto the moist clay of the document as an offical, binding, signature. Cylinder seals were also used in Egypt and developed completely independently in Mesoamerica as evidenced by archaeological finds of Olmec cylinder seals dating to c. 650 BCE. The Mesopotamian cylinder seal is the best known, however, and was the most widely used.
Cylinder Seals & Stamp Seals
Contemporaneous with cylinder seals were stamp seals which were smaller and less ornate in design. The typical cylinder seal was between 3-4 inches (7-10 cm) long while stamp seals were less than an inch (2 cm) in total and more closely resembled the later signet ring. It would make sense that the stamp seals preceded the cylinder seals as the former are more rudimentary but evidence suggests the seals were in use at the same time with one type favored more than the other in different regions. Scholar Clemens Reichel (whose essay is included in Englehardt's work, Agency in Ancient Writing) suggests the reason for this was simply a matter of necessity.
Those areas which favored the stamp seal (the regions of modern-day Syria and Turkey) had no need for the elaborate design imprint of the cylinder seal while the regions to the south, which had a more highly developed bureaucracy, required more detailed information in a seal.
The city of Uruk, for example, had a highly complex bureaucracy of different agencies which required detailed information on who was signing what document and, further, which office it originated from. The simpler and smaller stamp seals could not provide the space on which to carve such information while the longer cylinder seals fit the need perfectly.
The longer cylinder seals would have provided the name of the agency and name and title of the individual within that agency who was signing the document. In order to accurately represent and identify the owner of such a seal, a skilled artist was required who carved the story of the individual on the stone cylinder in exacting detail.

Through actions like protests, letter-writings, die-ins, and more, we defeated 21 out of 22 anti-LGBTQ+ bills attempting to move through the Florida legislature. One of these bills, HB 1639, sponsored by local representative Doug Bankson, was particularly egregious. It sought to redefine "sex" in a way that excludes transgender, non-binary, and intersex people, and to prohibit a person's state identification documents from reflecting their gender identity. As the bill was heading towards its downfall in the legislature, the Deputy Executive Director, Robert Kynoch, of the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) released a memo to county tax collectors in late January rescinding previous department policy (IR08 - Gender Requirements), which allowed for Florida residents to change the gender marker on their ID to accurately reflect their gender identity. The memo wrongly excludes gender identity from "sex" in an effort to subvert the democratic process to redefine sex - and prohibit gender marker amendments - absent legislative authority. In a similar way, the legislature continued its attacks on the rights of immigrants and people experiencing homelessness in the form of HB 1451. This bill, which passed and was signed into law by DeSantis, restricts the acceptance of community IDs issued by community organizations to immigrants and individuals experiencing homelessness. Community IDs are essential for demonstrating that a person is a resident and member of a given community. It is already tremendously difficult for these groups to acquire valid identification, and this law imposes yet another barrier to identification.' /End ID]

The Man from a Different Universe
In the chronicles of unexplained mysteries, the story of the Taured Man stands out as a baffling and enigmatic tale that has puzzled minds for decades.
It all began in the mid-20th century when a well-dressed and confident Caucasian man arrived at Tokyo's Haneda Airport, eager to embark on his journey. However, it was at the airport's immigration desk that this ordinary-looking traveler would reveal an extraordinary claim that would forever shroud his identity in mystery. Upon being asked the routine question of his country of origin, the man, with unwavering conviction, declared that he hailed from a place called "Taured." To the bewilderment of the Japanese immigration authorities, there was no record of such a country. The traveler was asked to produce identification, and that's when the plot thickened. In his possession, the Taured Man held a plethora of official documents, each more puzzling than the last. A passport, driver's license, and a stack of business cards – all issued by the non-existent nation of Taured – were laid out before the astounded officials. The documents were meticulously crafted, bearing all the hallmarks of authenticity, complete with visas from multiple countries, hinting at a history of international travel. As if this weren't perplexing enough, there were other curious details that further fueled the mystery. The authorities, grappling with disbelief, questioned the man about his homeland. His unwavering response was that Taured had existed for a long time, situated in the border region between France and Spain. This contradiction, however, only deepened the enigma, as no such country appeared on any maps or records. It was as though the Taured Man was a visitor from an alternate dimension or an elaborate hoaxer.
The confusion escalated as the man was escorted to a hotel room, still under the vigilant gaze of Japanese immigration authorities. While they were determined to solve the riddle of his identity, they were left with more questions than answers. The next morning, an eerie and baffling development occurred – the Taured Man and all of his belongings, including the Taured documents, had vanished without a trace. There were no signs of forced entry or exit, leaving investigators and airport personnel dumbfounded. It was as if the enigmatic traveler had simply vanished into thin air.

The Evolution of Secure ID Features in Canadian Licenses
Canadian driver’s licenses have come a long way from being simple paper documents to highly sophisticated forms of identification. Today, they serve not just as proof of driving privileges but also as trusted government-issued IDs for everything from boarding a plane to opening a bank account. One of the key reasons they are so widely accepted is the constant evolution of security features built into them. Let’s take a look at how Canadian licenses have evolved to become some of the most secure forms of ID in the world.

1. Early Days: Basic Paper Licenses
In the early days, Canadian licenses were simple paper documents that included basic information: name, address, date of birth, and a photograph (sometimes stapled separately!). Security was minimal, making licenses easy to forge. At that time, the main concern was just proving that the holder was legally allowed to drive — not preventing identity theft or fraud.
However, as technology advanced and cases of fraud increased, governments realized the need for more sophisticated licenses.
2. Introduction of Plastic Cards and Photos
By the late 20th century, provinces began issuing plastic (PVC) cards with embedded photographs and magnetic strips. This change greatly improved durability and made it harder to tamper with licenses. Adding photographs was a major step toward making the license a true piece of personal identification, as it allowed authorities and businesses to visually verify the holder’s identity.
3. Holograms, Microprinting, and Barcodes
To combat forgery, licenses began to feature holographic overlays, microprinting, and 2D barcodes that store critical information digitally. Holograms, visible when tilted under light, are very difficult to replicate. Microprinting — tiny text only readable with magnification — added another layer of hidden security. Barcodes allowed fast electronic scanning by police and government agencies, making it easier to verify the validity of a license on the spot.
4. Enhanced Driver’s Licenses (EDLs)
Some provinces, such as Ontario, British Columbia, and Quebec, introduced Enhanced Driver’s Licenses (EDLs). These contain radio-frequency identification (RFID) chips to allow secure land and sea border crossings between Canada and the U.S. An EDL functions both as a driver’s license and a limited travel document, meeting specific international security standards.
5. Smart Technology and Future Innovations
Today, discussions are underway about digital driver’s licenses — licenses you can store on your smartphone with enhanced encryption to prevent misuse. Provinces like Quebec and Ontario are exploring pilot programs for digital ID systems that would tie your license into a broader network of secure government services. Biometric authentication (such as facial recognition) is also being explored to further bolster license security in the future.
The evolution of secure ID features in Canadian licenses shows a commitment to protecting personal identity while enabling smooth access to government and private services. As new technologies emerge, you can expect even more innovation in the years ahead.

Embracing Trans Rights: A Simple Guide to Understanding and Supporting Inclusivity
Introduction:
In recent years, conversations around trans rights have gained momentum, advocating for equal treatment and inclusivity for transgender individuals. Understanding and supporting trans rights is crucial for fostering a society that values diversity and respects the rights of all its members. In this article, we'll explore the basics of trans rights, why they matter, and how we can contribute to a more inclusive world.
Defining Trans Rights:
Trans rights refer to the fundamental human rights and freedoms that should be accorded to transgender individuals. These rights encompass various aspects of life, including legal recognition of gender identity, protection against discrimination, access to healthcare, and the right to live authentically without fear of prejudice.
Why Trans Rights Matter:
Transgender individuals, like everyone else, deserve to live their lives with dignity and respect. Trans rights are essential for creating an inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and express their identity without facing discrimination. Advocating for trans rights is a step towards dismantling harmful stereotypes and fostering a more compassionate and understanding community.
Key Aspects of Trans Rights:
Legal Recognition: Transgender individuals should have the right to legal recognition of their gender identity. This includes the ability to change their gender marker on identification documents, ensuring that official records align with their affirmed gender.
Anti-Discrimination Protections: Trans people should be protected from discrimination in various aspects of life, including employment, education, healthcare, and public services. A society that values trans rights actively works to eliminate prejudice and bias.
Access to Healthcare: Quality healthcare should be accessible to everyone, including transgender individuals. This includes gender-affirming care, mental health support, and other healthcare services that cater to the unique needs of the transgender community.
Safe Public Spaces: Trans individuals deserve to feel safe in public spaces. Advocating for trans rights involves promoting policies and attitudes that ensure inclusive and safe environments for everyone, regardless of gender identity.
Supporting Trans Rights:
Supporting trans rights is a collective effort that begins with education and understanding. Here are a few simple ways to contribute:
Educate Yourself: Take the time to learn about transgender experiences, challenges, and the importance of trans rights. Understanding fosters empathy and helps dispel myths and misconceptions.
Be an Ally: Stand up against transphobia when you encounter it. Being an ally means supporting and advocating for the rights of transgender individuals, even if you are not personally affected.
Use Inclusive Language: Be mindful of the language you use and strive to be inclusive. Respecting people's chosen names and pronouns contributes to creating a more welcoming environment.
Support Inclusive Policies: Advocate for policies that protect trans rights in your community, workplace, and beyond. Support organizations working towards inclusivity and equality.
Conclusion:
In embracing trans rights, we contribute to building a world where everyone is valued, respected, and free to live authentically. By understanding the basics and actively supporting the rights of transgender individuals, we take a meaningful step towards creating a society that celebrates diversity and ensures equal rights for all.

reading another company's documentation, seeing "we will issue you a Client ID and a Client Secret for identification" in the first paragraph and nodding, content that he just has to pass those in and he's allowed to do whatever he wants, somehow missing that the next ten paragraphs are "and then you need to redirect users to us, identifying yourself with the Client ID and Client Secret, and we will ask the users whether they want to give you access to their data in our system. If they agree, we will call a webhook you provide, and with the access key that we pass to the webhook you can obtain a temporary auth token that allows you to access that single user's data, and..."
it's OAuth. it's literally OAuth. but somehow he read a straightforward description of one of the most commonly-used authentication protocols on the planet and went 'ah yes, we have a user name and password and those let us read anybody's data, I get it :)'. convincing him that this isn't what it said took over an hour. for the record he's been working on this for a week and I saw the documentation for the first time while we had this conversation

fucking kill me now
Mere moments after his swearing in Monday, President Donald Trump made a proclamation to attendees of his inauguration: “It shall henceforth be the policy of the United States government that there are only two genders: male and female.” Trump then signed an executive order disparaging what the White House called “gender ideology” and claiming that a person’s sex is “not changeable and [is] grounded in fundamental and incontrovertible reality.”
Trump’s order, which was widely seen as an unscientific attempt to roll back the rights of transgender and gender-expansive people, also instructs federal agencies “to require that government-issued identification documents, including passports, visas, and Global Entry cards, accurately reflect the holder’s sex,” rather than their gender identity. It was one of 78 orders signed on Monday, some of which were part of Trump’s attempts to end Biden-era policies that “socially engineer race and gender into every aspect of public and private life.”
While the executive order only affects federal policy, the broader implications are vast. It’s only been a decade since Facebook’s “real name” policy made it hard for people to hold accounts under names different than the ones on their IDs. Facebook has since amended these guidelines, but as companies like Meta clear the way for users to claim trans people have “mental illness,” digital safe spaces for LGBTQ+ people seem to be dwindling. Except in one arena: dating apps.
Following Trump’s executive order, Match Group and Feeld both told WIRED they have no intention of reversing course when it comes to the gender identity options offered on their respective platforms.
“We are not making changes to our apps,” says a spokesperson for Match Group, which owns OkCupid, Tinder, Hinge, and several other dating platforms.
It remains to be seen how other tech companies will respond to the executive order. Some, like Meta, seemed to be making overtures to the incoming Trump administration before this week. Earlier this month, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the company would end its third-party fact-checking program and transition to a Community Notes model, à la X.
Zuckerberg peddled the sudden reversal as a bid to scale up free speech across Facebook, Instagram, and Threads and allow for more political content. “We’re going to simplify our content policies and get rid of a bunch of restrictions on topics like immigration and gender that are just out of touch with mainstream discourse,” Zuckerberg said in a video accompanying the announcement.
Should online life become even less inclusive for LGBTQ+ people during Trump’s term, apps like OkCupid, Feeld, and Hinge could become digital havens, places to connect. “In a time when many of our civil rights are under threat, dating apps have the ability to serve as crucial spaces for gender, racial, and sexual inclusivity,” says Apryl Williams, a professor of communication and digital studies at the University of Michigan.
Over a decade ago, in 2014, OkCupid expanded its gender options for users to include identifications such as transgender, pangender, intersex, agender, and genderqueer. It was among the first dating apps to capture an accurate picture of identity online, and the different ways it was evolving. Currently, Tinder provides an option for “beyond binary” and Hinge allows users to select “nonbinary” on their profiles.
Bumble, which offers 19 gender options for singles, declined to comment on this story.
Feeld is also doubling down on user protections under the Trump administration, CEO Ana Kirova tells WIRED. As societal norms continue to evolve, Kirova wants the app to be a sanctuary for safety and authenticity. “We remain dedicated to nurturing an environment where everyone can be and express themselves authentically, respectfully, and without fear of discrimination, regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation,” she says.
This week the Trump administration also began scrubbing the internet of gender identity websites, including the “Change sex identification” page on the Social Security Administration website and the Department of Labor’s page for reporting sexual and gender-based discrimination.
In spite of Gen Z ditching dating apps in favor of IRL hookups, user growth on Feeld has increased 30 percent year-over-year since 2022. In fact, 2024 was a record year for Big Dating, as waves of new users joined despite reports of app fatigue. As more people consider what brings them pleasure and happiness, or simply question the outdated constraints of sexual constructs, Kirova says that Feeld recognizes the inherent fluidity in its members. The app currently has more than 38 sexual and gender orientations to select from.
For Kirova, it’s simple. It’s about growing together, she says, which means making all gender and sexual expressions feel welcomed on Feeld. “Our platform celebrates the ever-evolving human experience,” she says, “and we will continue to build towards a world of openness.” Feeld also plans to host more in-person events in 2025, giving users a place to connect in offline settings.

Steps Involved in Tokenizing Real-World Assets
Introduction
Tokenizing real-world assets implies translating the ownership rights of physical or intangible assets into a blockchain-based digital token. By doing this the asset gains liquidity and fractions of the ownership with a high degree of transparency. The main steps of tokenization of real-world assets
Tokenize Real World Assets in simple steps
Asset Identification and Valuation:
Start with the selection of an asset such as real estate, artwork, or commodities, for tokenization, and then understand the market value. This refers to the valuation of all identifying features of the asset the market demand and the legal reasons to see if the asset is viable for tokenization. The valuation of the asset must be an accurate one since it greatly impacts investor confidence and the overall effect of the process of tokenization.
Legal Structuring and Compliance:
Establish the robust legal framework to ensure tokenize an asset complies with relevant regulation. This would require defining the rights and obligations of a token holder and compliance with securities laws and appropriate entities or agreements. It would be very advisable to engage legal experts who understand blockchain technology and financial regulations to help navigate this rather difficult terrain.
Choosing the Blockchain Platform:
The selection of the blockchain is highly dependent on security, scalability, transaction costs, and lastly compatibility with the asset type. Acceptance of public blockchains like Ethereum against private or permissioned chains would ultimately boil down to the requirements of the specific asset type and the demands of stakeholders Defining the Token Type and Standard:
represents equity, debt, or utility, and selects an appropriate token standard. Common standards include ERC-20 tokens and ERC-721 tokens . This decision impacts the tokens functionality interoperability and how to traded or utilized within the ecosystem
Developing Smart Contracts:
Create smart contracts to automate the processes like token issuance distribution and compliance. These self-executing contracts with the terms and directly written into code ensure transparency and reduce the need for intermediaries and enforce the predefined rules and regulations associated with the tokenized asset.
Token Creation and Management
Automating compliance
Transaction Automation
Security and Transparency
Integration with External Systems
Asset Management:
Securing the physical asset or its legal documentation in a way that ensures that the tokens issued are backed by the asset per se is called asset custody and management. It includes the engagement of third-party custodians or establishing trust structures for holding the asset, thereby providing assurance to the token holders of the authenticity and security of their investments.
Token Issuance and Distribution:
Mint and distribute the digital tokens over a selected platform or exchange to investors. Carry out the process in a completely transparent way and in full conformance with the pre-established legal framework, like initial coin offerings (ICOs) or security token offerings (STOs), among others, to reach the target investors.
Establishing a Secondary Market:
Facilitating trading of tokens in secondary markets allows liquidity and enables investors to buy or sell their holdings. Listing tokens on appropriate exchanges and ensuring compliance with relevant ongoing regulations is part and parcel of enhancing the marketability and attractiveness to investors.
Benefits Tokenize Real World Assets
Enhanced Liquidity
Traditionally illiquid assets, such as real estate and fine art, can be to challenging the buy or sell quickly. Tokenization facilitates the division of these assets into smaller tradable digital tokens, thereby increasing market liquidity and enabling faster transactions.
Fractional ownership
high-value assets mandate a substantial capital investment, which limits access to a small group of investors. However, with tokenization, these assets can be broken into smaller shares whereby multiple investors could come to own fractions of the asset. This democratizes the opportunity for investment and broadens participation in the market.
Efficiency and Decreases Costs
The application of tokenization settles processes such as settlement, record-keeping, and compliance on the blockchain. Accordingly, this reduces the need for intermediaries, lowers administrative expenses, and reduces cost per transaction. For example, the Hong Kong government issued a digital bond that reduced settlement time from five days to one.
Transparency and Security Upgraded
The important features of the blockchain promise an incorruptible, transparent ledger for all transactions. Ownership records are made secure against tampering and easily verifiable and hence fostering a greater sense of trust among investors and stakeholders and Transparency and Security Upgraded
Expanded Reach into the Market
Tokenization creates a borderless approach, enabling investors all around the world to reach and invest in a plethora of diverse assets. Aside from global reach, it creates an ecosystem that is more inclusive and opens the window for further possibilities in the world of investors and asset owners.
Conclusion
Tokenization of real-world assets (RWAs) signifies a new methodology for asset management and investment. Through converting a tangible or intangible asset into a digital token to be deployed on the blockchain this method aids in turning such assets into liquid forms permitting fractional ownership, and ensuring the performance of the transaction in a traceable manner. The whole process, from locating and appraising the asset to creating a secondary market, thus provides a systematic framework in applying blockchain technology to asset tokenization.
The increased operational efficiency, lower transaction costs, raised transparency, and wider access to the marketplace imply that, with the onset of tokenization, the very nature of investment opportunities is likely to undergo a drastic change with increased democratization from the heights of capital to meet investors on the streets. As this technology evolves, we will find innovative solutions to asset management, enhancing the accessibility and efficiency of investments for a broad spectrum of investors.
