#Indy's misunderstood a lot

Anyway I personally love that Indy is not your stereotypical nerd. That's my favourite thing about him. He makes heads swoon, is built like a Greek god and is a good at flirting while being such an intelligent man, passionate about past and an adventure junkie. Can we appreciate how Indy just lets women causally get education in archeology too?? I am sorry that's hot and I am only femme-presententing non-binary but not woman. Still super great from him though!! And that fact he nerded out when he found Sir Richard's grave. He was so fucking adorable!!! He took name after his childhood dog he loved so much. When he puts his glasses on because he is probably bit of nearsighted... I adore this man! I adore this man!!!!!

Most of the popular indie RPG frameworks are a lot more narrowly focused in terms of the player-facing incentives they furnish than folks tend to think they are, so at least half the time I'll be reading a new Apocalypse Engine or Forged in the Dark or Belonging Outside Belonging or LUMEN or OSR or what-have-you game and spend the whole time thinking "okay, has this person completely misunderstood the kind of play the framework they're using encourages, or have I completely misunderstood the kind of play they're aiming for?"

good evening/morning/afternoon, mind sharing some Eddsworld headcannons? :D (also AHHHH i think your so cool)

Ok first of all thank you so much 😭🩷💞‼️‼️

To address the headcanons, I have four separate posts with headcanons about all four of the boys, but there are unfortunately more. I’ll just list some off the top of my head (I’ll try to make them consistent) (also Matt goes by feminine pronouns as well so that isn’t a typo if you see a she) (also also I’ll add links their other headcanons as well)

Edd

So uhhh Edd. Pretty calm, chill guy. Not entirely, sometimes he’s the most menacing bastard ever. He’s also a sweetheart sometimes, really the biggest cuddle bug you’ll ever meet. But he’s also a grade A asshole. There are many faces of Edd. When he was younger he was much less laidback and far more blunt and openly rude. If he felt it, he said it. Thankfully he learned social norms as he got older.

Edd has many interests, such as art and animation (obviously), amphibians, plants, architecture, cinema, Sonic, MLP, Homestuck, and old RPGs (he’s perpetually stuck in the early 2010s). He always has a little pocket notebook with him to doodle in mindlessly. Literally, sometimes he doesn’t even realise he’s drawing. What is wrong with him. His doodles range from people, animals, and buildings he sees, to random comics of his friends, to pages and pages of drawings of Ringo. He loves his baby. He has an entire wall dedicated to collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia. It’s the wall behind his door, so if you only open it halfway you won’t see it, but if you take a peak around the corner you get hit in the face with red and white. He has a pretty impressive collection of vintages.

Some of Edd’s favourite music genres (not including influence from the other boys) include classic rock, indie rock, alternative rock, folk rock, soul, and rumba. Rumba might seem a bit out of place, but his mother, Emilia, is from Spain, and she listened to a lot of rumba and flamenco while he was growing up. It reminds him of home <3

Matt

Matt is much smarter than her housemates give her credit for. Of course, he's still rather flighty and forgetful, and has his potato brain moments, but he can be surprisingly logical and level-headed. She’s naturally a very silly guy, however she used to pretend to be more serious to make the other three think she was cool and mysterious (they knew he wasn’t because they grew up with him, but he still desperately craves their approval.) Matt is actually a rather complicated guy, and he doesn’t get enough credit for that.

Aside from collecting shiny things, trinkets, and anything purple, she loves perfumes and candles (and really anything with a nice scent), stuffed animals, women’s fashion, sewing, Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, and bats. After becoming a vampire she became obsessed with bats. He once stayed up until dawn crying about how bats are just sweet misunderstood little creatures and he was so wrong to judge them. What a sap. He holds bi-monthly “pampering nights” for the entire house and turns the house into a spa. Don’t ask how much money it takes.

Music genres he likes include indie pop, indie rock, city pop, jazz-pop, bossa nova, and alternative. While his taste in music is mostly shaped by the people around him, he occasionally discovers music he likes himself, such as bossa nova (which he started to look into after listening to K.K. Bossa in Animal Crossing). He finds it easier to bond over makeovers and music than conversation.

Tom

Tom is the master of conflicting personalities. He’s rude to almost everyone, but can also be the sweetest and most gentle person in the house. He’s stone-faced serious, then he’s goofy asf. He’s an enraged barely-leashed beast, then he’s so calm he’s practically a corpse. He’s simultaneously the smartest and the dumbest, the most mature and the most childish. Importantly, he’s an amazing actor, which means you can never know how he’s truly feeling at any given moment. Is this moment of silliness genuine, or is it simply a deflection?

Anyways Tom likes music and music history, filmography, science fiction (especially about aliens), fishing, dragons, and Pokémon. He goes through different phases of being obsessed with different films and film series and dissecting the movie-making process behind them. He also reads all. The fucking. Time. He always has a book with him. He keeps them in the most comical impossible places imaginable. He also loves comics and graphic novels. He also keeps a pocketbook like Edd, but it’s filled with line paper instead so he can write on the go, whether it’s song lyrics or a potential movie script.

Obviously Tom loves ska music, as well as ska punk, nu metal, R&B, punk rock, skate punk, and hark rock. And believe me when I say I’m holding back here because he has undeniably the widest range of music taste of the boys. Just add the rest of the guys’ music tastes to this list honestly because he loves them all. Just primarily ska.

Tord

Tord’s personality is like a box of chocolates. If you were allergic to chocolate. Bitter and tingly and kind of makes you feel like you’re gonna vomit. If that makes sense. He’s naturally quiet and reserved, but not shy, absolutely not. If you give him the chance he’ll talk your ear off. He’s a very dominating voice when he engages in the conversation. Most of the time, though, he just likes to observe. And take notes. He’s always taking notes. He’s like Tom in that he’s a great actor, and that you never know how he’s really feeling, but this isn’t to hide his feelings and deep-down repressed sadness, it’s just his home-grown military instincts. He also likes antagonising people, and has nerves of steel. He taught himself how to read people by watching them, it’s definitely not something that came naturally to him. I could go on and on about him honestly but I won’t. Too complicated (as his many past therapists say).

Tord loves guns and other weapons, science, robotics, chemistry, anime (and the nasty stuff, ew), war history, zombie films, the Doom series, TF2, and Wolfenstein. He likes anything violent, really, he’s very desensitised to it. His housemates never let him have the remote because he either puts on the most disgusting gory movie you’ve ever watched or the most boring military/war/weapon documentary ever. He started working on his laboratory as soon as he moved into Edd’s house, and it was initially just a small desk in the basement, but eventually turned into a massive underground bunker accessible by an elevator in the basement. The End played out very differently in my headcanon, obviously.

Tord enjoys industrial rock and metal, death metal, black metal, techno, alternative metal, progressive metal, and j-rock. He also likes more international music, as he moved around a lot during his childhood. He especially loves harsh and aggressive sounds like guitars. He can fall asleep to the Doom soundtrack.

Figure I'll throw my D&D 5E critique into the ring:

D&D, as discussed a lot in indie spheres on this site, isn't as simple of a game to learn as many people like to claim it is. It's only viewed as good for beginners because of WotC's and Hasbro's dominance over the TTRPG market making D&D 5E the most prevalent roleplaying game currently on the market.

The actual rules are rather complex to learn as a beginner, and are much more suited as someone's second or third game to learn rather than first. And... I don't think it's a GOOD form of complex.

D&D 5E feels complex in the sense that the system is bloated. Bloated with ideas from past editions that it doesn't fully understand, and hence doesn't know how to adapt and modify. This is different form a *good* form of complexity, which is a complexity that has been designed with game design intention and where the systems involved in the game work well together without being neglected.

I dunno, working in other systems has just got me thinking about this a lot. I'm someone who used to say I didn't like combat in TTRPGs back when I only played D&D, and now I find myself loving it and loving designing with it in mind because of other systems - and I think it comes down to that bloat. All the mechanics each D&D class has that remain from previous editions that don't seem cohesive with other classes. The seemingly unintentional imbalance between the martial and caster classes. The way D&D encounter design works. How various secondary systems in the game left behind from earlier editions - encumbrance, foraging, travel, light, resource management - exist but don't matter.

D&D 5E is bloated with misunderstood and poorly applied echoes of past editions, and left so by a team and publisher that seems to ignore game design in favour of what the investors and sales tell them. Which is quite a sorry look for the most prominent game on the market to have.

I 100% get it, I had started writing a script for a comic (developed off of old fanfiction that I revamped then revamped again in the DC universe) and immediately got Really Defensive because if I were to pitch it to DC and it got picked up that's just There now for Editorial and other writers to fuck with because they're a product of their own story and I feel would get turned into this certain flanderized (or worse since these characters are not White) over time. It hasn't gotten far/probably wouldn't have but I do think if I go forward it's gonna be indie route because I think once the character's story is through it needs to be left where it ended.

The defensiveness really blindsides you its wild!

tbh I think everybody who reads comics knows of at least one run that completely ruins a character, or a famously bad editorial decision or retcon that has negative consequences on canon for decades. The idea of that happening to your story or your characters is a genuine shot of anxiety that can really take the wind out of a writers sails.

I think about the Mark Waid interview where he talks about Flash: Fastest Man Alive and what they did to Bart's character, and how he openly said he'd rather Bart be dead than misunderstood/mishandled. Which is probably a lot of writers' sentiments about the characters' they created decades ago turning into something unrecognizable before their eyes.

But it's also an unavoidable reality of writing comics in an interconnected universe manned by corporate interests. It feels like if you want to commit to writing the characters you grew up loving or create new characters for that existing universe, there's some level of letting go that needs to be done. which is why i think despite not necessarily being as financially successful/stable or mainstream, the indie comics scene is still thriving with cool stories and amazing writers.

Casino Royale is the 2006 reboot of the James Bond franchise, based on Ian Fleming's first Bond novel, of the same name. Mads plays antagonist Le Chiffre (whose name Jean Duran was later revealed in the video game of the movie), a private banker who has lost his client's money and is trying to recover it.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is a 2016 movie, the second Star Wars movie set outside the main Skywalker stories, it follows the theft of the plans of the Death Star which leads into the Skywalker timeline's first movie - A New Hope. Mads plays Galen Erso, designer of the death star and father of the protagonist, Jyn Erso.

Doctor Strange is a 2016 Marvel movie, the first focusing on Dr Stephen Strange. Mads plays antagonist Kaecilius, a master of the mystical arts who comes up against Strange after breaking from the teachings of the Ancient One and becoming a follower of Dormammu, ruler of the dark dimension.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is a 2022 movie in the Fantastic Beast franchise, the money grab following the popular Harry Potter series. Mads plays Grindelwald, Dumbledore's gay lover (because remember Dumbledore is gay now, there was a tweet).

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is the 2023 latest instalment of the Indiana Jones franchise, set in 1969 and follows Indy trying to locate a powerful artefact before Nazi-turned-NASA scientist Voller - played by Mads.

as for music, my amazing mutual @illdowhatiwantthanks once sent in an ask about the music they think lee listens to, and I wholeheartedly agree with what they write. like, I think lee would definitely be into more indie and alternative music, but there'd be the occasional hip-hop and pop song. and I love how so many of us feel that she'd listen to elliott smith, I definitely agree hehe. maybe when she feels anxious and needs some soothing, or when she's taking a long drive, or when she needs something to listen to for background news at home.

the song she listens to in the movie has this very dreamlike feel to it, so I feel like in a modern!au, she'd be into the marias and men I trust. other modern artists I can see her listening to are clairo, novo amor and cigarettes after sex (although maybe I'm projecting too HAHA).

as for indicators in the movie and what maika has said, lee listens to opera and duran duran (which @mignonettesauce found out through a poster in her childhood bedroom :o). and I actually didn't know maika said lee listens to nina simone omg! I love the song don't let me be misunderstood, and honestly, I could so see lee listening to it. like, when smoking and at home, or to relax when she's driving home. plus, now that I'm reading the lyrics to it, I feel like she'd relate to them so much :( in terms of all the anxieties and pleading about wishing to not be misunderstood as cruel or cold. I feel like she'd definitely have days feeling regret or worry about if something she said or did came off as rude due to her personal struggles with social cues, so I feel like she'd resonate with that song a lot.

{--Honestly its hard to think of anything off the top of my head cuz most things that would make me instantly unfollow someone are usually things that would make me not follow someone to begin with. I've got a pretty high tolerance for most things.

I guess unapologetic bullying/witchhunting and lying about how bad other people are would be the deal-breaker for me.

I used to have a friend in another fandom years ago who first started reading my fanfictions and followed me here from fanfic.net, they got into roleplaying because of me tbh. They were always a little bit high-strung and gossipy, but they took an extended break from tumblr for a while "due to drama", and when they came back... idk, somehow they gave me really nasty vibes I couldn't put my finger on when they returned.

Anyway, this small indie OC blog made a comment on one of their posts that was tactless but it was out of ignorance about what a word meant, and to be fair to the person it was a word that could very easily be misunderstood to mean something else. A stupidly small misunderstanding that could have been cleared up by just explaining to the person what it meant and how unintentionally insensitive they had been.

Instead of doing that, they went on this huge public smear campaign getting this person bullied out of the fandom and blocked by basically their whole clique circle, making this person out to be 10 thousand times worse than they were. I went to the page of the person who got bullied and saw their screenshots of private messages where they tried to apologize and fix their mistake, genuine apologies taking accountability for being insensitive when they hadn't meant to be, while my "friends" relentlessly just kept beating them down about it without any compromise or understanding at all. However, my "friends" in the situation never showed any of this, and painted a very damning picture of this person that was completely false.

Suffice to say, I unfollowed or soft-blocked quite a few of them that day, and the funniest thing about that situation was when I did, even though I didn't say a peep about it to anyone, I instantly got blocked by a good 20+ other people who were part of their clique circle, so clearly they talked shit about the fact I unfollowed them and had me basically excommunicated from their roleplay circle, despite doing nothing to add to the drama.

I did send a private message to the blog that got bullied apologizing for how awful my now ex-friends had treated them, but I don't think they ever saw it because they completely abandoned the blog and never came back after how they were bullied.

Anyway, you know me. It's exactly because of shit like that that I don't take sides, even with "friends", if I have nothing but their word to go off of. I like to see both sides and preferably I don't even ask for people to tell me what happened because a lot of people are unreliable narrators in their own situations (often not intentionally or consciously, mind you). Most of the time I just say "show me the screenshots" and come to my own conclusions.

There are actually a ton of situations that I've avoided siding with the wrong person because I required people to give me full screenshots of exchanges that happened and got both sides, including avoiding siding with a legit pedophile that groomed a 14 year old who tried to DARVO a situation to make the people who called them out look like the "real" pedos, and a nasty abusive but charming guild leader who put on a public face about being "poor Mr. victimized" who privately tore people apart so viciously it bordered on being legitimately criminal, I mean the kind of abusive behavior people get restraining orders for, and the sad thing was that a lot of people who liked to claim to be the "smartest people in any room" completely fell for his victim act just because they never went and got both sides like I did because, to put it shortly, they elevated themselves to a position of "too smart to get fooled" when really they were just biased towards the abuser and against the victim, which I think is total bullshit and had me severely disappointed in those people.--}

Like you said on the post, series that hit the wide media appeal don't (or rarely) hit the sweet spot of your individual self because by nature they are more universal. I'm not online enough to be aware of nerds vagueing me because they're mad at my blog posts and I haven't done anything wrong except be a widdle pretentious which I am happily self aware of. Truth is - I don't think there's "bad art" because its so subjective. Fighting people over taste is a losing battle in the first place because that's their problem not yours and it's not something you can change! What I /do/ notice a lot online in the fandoms I breeze past is that a lot of people seek weirder stuff but don't put the effort behind, and that's how you end up with people getting really damn invested about something like say, MP100, and praising its visuals by calling it experimental. North american pop culture especially is dominated by corporate giants in a way that might make it harder to find indie stuff, and north americans tend to not go look for stuff that's alien to them in the first place. It's why platforms like Tumblr rule - it's relatively easy to find new stuff when your dashboard is full of people posting about their own tastes. And that's why I submit myself to the mortifying ideal of yapping about the shit that has those 10 MAL readers and posting pictures of it!

There's no bad art and that includes popular commercial stuff. It'd be hypocritical of me to shit on that given one of my fav movies ever is a Mad Max and i've defended the Beatles' music as good online :p Popular stuff is popular for a reason

But damn if you are seeking some thrills through media I still am dead convinced finding some amateurish and/or weird ass and/or gruesome and/or experimental will give you the high no hollywood production can reach... And that if you only stick to the same sort of mass appeal media you'll be left with a lot of pent up invisible frustration made up of all the stuff they cut out for optimised dollars

Also, there's always gonna be indier than you. That's my interpretation..

I'll talk about spoilers so read at your own discretion.

To start:

I had forgotten completely that RM already performed it at one of the D-Day last shows.

So I got the experience of hearing it for the first time twice.

I consider that a bonus!

But let's get to the important part:

The day it was released I barely woke up and rushed to watch the video.

We knew it was in Letterbox (it's a movie rating platform, really cool) so the cinematography wasn't really a surprise.

I just checked and they took it out of letterbox 😭

What caught me off guard was the total absence of rapping.

I always rooted for RM to find his singing voice, but that certain part just HITS the spot.

Wow.

And the GENRE?? I wasn't expecting it at all.

It has a bit of folk with the whistle and the talking-singing, along with the chorus sounds very R&B.

Not only he is singing a whole song by himself for the first time, but he is experimenting with the genre too!!!

Hallelujah.

Major indie vibes.

And the lyrics hit me so hard too.

I forgot the hour. I don't wanna know 'bout the hour. I forgot to shower. Even washing my face seems like a waste of time.

We see RM going through different scenes where he's role changes with the room he enters.

In the beginning we see him in a party looking apathetic.

A drunk man offers him a cigarette twice and he refuses (which reminds me of that one picture that was posted on Instagram).

In one of the rooms, he is even in a baby bed! Probably my favorite part.

Do you see something familiar?

Eventually he comes across a young woman that seems to be another version of him.

From then on, he looks changed, at ease.

And a boyfriend talking to a girlfriend.

I think this MV could have a lot of different meanings.

But the feeling like an outsider and running around, the apathetic look, the being misunderstood (in the fight with his girl) and then finally smiling and going back at peace....

It seems like making peace with the past, making peace with the old self.

It's ok to disappoint people sometimes.

The scene as a baby in the crib with the parents, the scene with the angry girlfriend made me think about that. Read expectations and disappointment.

It might take time for us to understand life and ourselves, but when we are finally ready for it is liberating.

The present is the party, he's thinking about his childhood and past (and future?) relationship but he's not living in the moment, at least he wasn't in the beginning.

Those are obvious things, in theory it's easy to understand. But when it comes to real life it's just different.

Without being careful we get caught up in moments, regrets, feeling overwhelmed.

The girl he meets in the end could represent many things: himself, his inner peace, happiness, army or spring.

As he mentions in the lyrics:

spring always been here, I will sleep in her eyes

That scene represents meeting a good friend, having a laugh, letting the weight off your shoulders.

And I just noticed the sunlight moving in the room representing the passage of time, interesting. That could mean how we lose track of time when with the right people, but it could also mean something else that I don't know.

He might be referencing Army, as spring day is such a loved song in the fandom.

What makes me think he might be talking about army is the lyrics too.

You are my pain, divine.

We know this life, although very beautiful, isn't always easy to BTS.

Along with all the prizes and support comes expectations.

I like to think this could be Namjoon making peace with his love for music, army and fame.

I see you come back to me.
