Maths Games For Kids: Make Learning Numbers a Joyful Journey
Mathematics often conjures images of textbooks, repetition, and complexity—but it doesn’t have to. In the digital era, children no longer have to fear numbers or formulas. Thanks to intuitive and playful technology, Maths Games For Kids have revolutionized how young minds absorb numerical knowledge. These games fuse learning and entertainment into a single, irresistible experience.
At EduGaming App World, we understand that early exposure to math must be engaging, not intimidating. Our collection of Maths Games For Kids is designed to empower young learners through challenge, creativity, and fun.
🎯 Why Are Maths Games Important for Children?
Children are naturally curious. They thrive in environments that challenge their imagination and allow active participation. Math, however, often gets a bad reputation for being abstract and “boring.” That's where Maths Games For Kids step in.
These games:
Build foundational arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
Improve problem-solving and critical thinking
Strengthen memory and cognitive flexibility
Encourage independent learning and resilience through gamified reward systems
When children play math games, they're not just memorizing—they're exploring, experimenting, and developing a lasting relationship with numbers.
🧠 What Makes a Good Maths Game?
Not all math games are created equal. At EduGaming App World, we curate games based on the following educational principles:

Curriculum Alignment The best Maths Games For Kids reinforce what children are already learning in school.
Safe and Ad-Free Environment We ensure a secure, child-friendly platform where learning is never interrupted by intrusive content.
🕹️ Popular Types of Maths Games
Our platform hosts a wide variety of math games. Here are some of the most loved by kids and approved by educators:
1. Counting Games
Perfect for toddlers and preschoolers, these games teach basic number recognition and counting through visual objects, animals, or characters.
Example: Count the stars in the night sky or feed a monster the right number of cookies.
2. Addition & Subtraction Challenges
These games make simple arithmetic fun by using visual puzzles, flashcards, or time-bound challenges.
Example: Help a frog jump from lily pad to lily pad by solving addition problems.
3. Multiplication Races
Kids compete in virtual races where each correct multiplication answer powers their vehicle forward.
Example: Rocket Math—solve x-table questions to blast off faster than your opponents.
4. Math Puzzles & Mazes
Mazes and brain teasers where kids solve math questions to move forward or unlock levels.
Example: Solve equations to escape a pirate’s treasure cave.
5. Shape and Pattern Recognition
Early geometry games that help children identify basic 2D and 3D shapes, symmetry, and patterns.
Example: Match shapes to build a robot or replicate patterns to create a pixel art picture.

KONOHA IS NOT A SMALL VILLAGE
Someone else touched up on this but I don’t tag my reblogs so I’ll never find it but like it befuddles me that we cycle through the same ten characters and ten side characters when Konoha is a huge village like just looking at the number of shapeless Shinobi in the war arc like that population has to come from somewhere right?
Tumblr media
Like you’re absolutely joking me if absolute max of 50 of this horde of Shinobi are from Konoha (because at the end of the day, there aren’t that many named Konoha Shinobi alive at any given time, not when compared to this picture I mean for real each block here is probably fucking 100 people wide by idk 500 people long)
(The issue here is not the “lack” of named characters cause there are certainly MANY but rather the lack of unnamed characters or the lack of space in canon for unnamed characters you know what I mean? No way Kakashi and co are the only jounins in village. No way Kakashi only had like two teammates in ANBU when really there should be an abundance of people to run missions with and ANBU isn’t genin teams, so long as the job gets done it doesn’t matter if the team members have met before or even know of each other)
And yeah part of what makes KakaObi (and SasuNaru) so devastating is their shared history but imagine KakaObi rivalry as ADULTS, whatever the opposite of meet-cute is, as Shinobi of the same village who haven’t met each other before because do you really know every single person your age in your hometown? A village THAT big, a NINJA village, does not have only one (1) ninja school (imagine living in the bottom left corner of this image, the walk to school must be so long! Idc if you ninja run, what child has the mental capacity to hop over rooftops at 7am??? Certainly not Ino-Shika-Cho!) ((clearly Kishimoto never played simulation games like Cities Skylines or Oxygen Not Included because come on! The population does not meet canon requirements and for it to do so it has to outgrow having only one school for its children!! Also it just needs more children!!!))
Tumblr media
The math just doesn’t math
So
Someone please give me bratty genius Kakashi, unchallenged until he meets “genius of hard work” Obito all the way up as a jounin or ANBU, years his senior and determined to maintain his reign of superiority and probably failing spectacularly with added affliction of gay UST to boot
Gay propaganda aside, just imagine the world-building implications. Isolated Uchiha clan further isolated by a school being built near their clan compound, act of malice or not, their kids aren’t welcome around the others anymore. Poor Shinobi children/orphans who live in the same district going to the same school versus rich clan kids going to a different school together. Remember in your hometown when you “graduated” to middle school, kids who didn’t go to your elementary school were icky or annoying or weird or lame? (The correct term here is new or maybe different but children aren’t usually so kind at that age) But ninja elementary school! No canon middle school or higher education of any kind unfortunately but what if they pair kids from different schools into genin teams? Maybe that’s how Kakashi’s team 7 comes to be (Uchiha massacre or not, doesn’t make a difference if the Uchiha have been super isolated what with the police force and their own academy), maybe Neji is somehow worse cause he’s never actually interacted with a non-Hyuga/non-clan kid before. This can apply to Minato’s team 7 as well, prodigy clan heir from fancy clan academy Kakashi paired with the runt of the Uchiha from insular Uchiha academy and idk Rin from whichever school is closest to her civilian house. Like Konoha doesn’t have cars or buses or trains (at this time and I’ve never seen/read boruto no thank you) and there’s not much room for beasts of burden so these children are WALKING EVERYWHERE thank you very much.
Idk rant over, there was someone who explained this conundrum much better than I did but I cannot find their post :P

「 txt in kindergarten 」 。。。
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
𐙚 SOOBIN
• Passes by his friends’ houses to collect them, walking together to school • Pouts whenever someone else takes something he’s set his eyes on but doesn’t say anything about it. He tells himself it’s fine, as long as they're happy • Only brings essentials to school, but overpacks on situational things he might need like band-aids and bug lotion/patches — “What if I get bitten by a THOUSAND mosquitoes today?!” • Loves to play with house toys, such as kitchenware with fancy wooden stoves. A bit stressed when someone comes along and plays beside him.  • At the playground he tries to conquer the seesaw. Unfortunately he is afraid the person on the other end might not let him down or catapult him into the air, so he just sits on it with nobody on the other side. • Lunchbox has every food group, sometimes even gets dessert when he’s behaved enough. Eats the longest because he may have to force himself to eat whatever he doesn’t like. • Favorite time of the day is nap time! Everyone is quiet and he gets to sleep, no complaints here
𐙚 YEONJUN
• In charge of looking both ways when crossing the road, grips hard when holding hands. • Overpacks toys and stationary, but still capable of forgetting something mildly important.  • Loves to play with building blocks and matching games/puzzles. • At the playground he’s at the top of the slide, ruling over his minions and most likely hogging it. • Likes to trade lunches with other kids, particular about the quality to quantity ratio. Expert at haggling. — “I’m taking more from you because my dish is harder to prepare and has more ingredients! Maybe if you give me a piece of your sides, I’ll consider it.” • Favorite time of the day is recess! Likes mingling with other kids, there is no set agenda so he could talk about or do anything
𐙚 BEOMGYU
• Strays and wanders away from the walking group, sometimes gets lost. • Things are heavily personalized, same unsure handwriting that says "beomgyu" on every item he owns, and as much as possible they’re all the same color or have the same character.  • Erasers are the gel fruit ones that get lost (or eaten) • Loves to play with very select plushies, may throw a tantrum if he doesn’t have it with him • At the playground he can be found in sandboxes, making castles and pretending to be a monster. • Steps on other kids’ work in the process. Sometimes it’s an accident, most times it's intentional — “I didn’t destroy your castle because it’s better than mine, which is a lie. I destroyed it because I’m godzilla.” • Brags about all of the snacks and candies his parents gave him (or what he takes from the cupboard) • Favorite time of the day is arts class! A subject where he can be as loud and messy as he wants for the sake of whatever project he’s making that day.
𐙚 TAEHYUN
• Has a map in his bag in case they forget the route • Loves to talk about his surroundings, eyes glistening when others ask follow up questions • Always asks questions in class, he’s so attentive !! • Complete stationery set, including a cool pencil case with a built in sharpener. Will let others borrow but will ask why they need it, asking every other second if he can have it back because he’s afraid they’ll lose it or keep it • Loves to play with interactive books, pop-ups and especially ones where you can feel the texture of things. • At the playground he loves being on the swing sets, telling other children to wait their turn or when 5 minutes have passed to let others have a chance on the swing. — “Your time was up two minutes ago! Why am I still here? I’m the reason you get turns in the first place!” • Always eats whatever his parents have prepared for him, boasts about being healthy and outliving everyone else. • Favorite time of the day is math class! Since math class is technically indirect and simple arithmetics, such as adding apples, sometimes it’s easy to cheat (count on his fingers)
𐙚 HUENINGKAI
• Stops to look at all the fauna and flora, squealing and telling those around him. My little arthropod lover! • Extensive art set that gets everyone's attention, other kids love to borrow from him and he can be kind of a pushover. Unfortunately, they end up losing them. • Loves to play with anything colorful that makes sound, such as a rainbow xylophone • At the playground he loves the roundabout, but he’s too shy to get on. He patiently waits for someone to invite him to ride, so instead he pushes the others around. • Tries to eat his lunch quickly in case someone might ask him to share. He will, but he will sulk a lot. It was prepared for him! • Favorite time of the day is music class! Generally this is a time where everyone just makes noise, but most eyes are on him when he learns a new toy instrument. He doesn’t like the attention, but it’s not so bad either. — “This? Oh, I guess it’s just easy for me. wait, sorry! I didn't mean to brag.... When I want to hear a sound, my hands move on my own to do it! Teach you? Um I’m not really good at that… But sure!”

Kwazii design Take 1 (plus Kobb!)
Edit: this design of kwazii is so old 💀
sorry if my info seems wack I'm only now just starting to catch up to above and beyond lol
Tumblr media
{ LONG POST BUT IT DOES INCLUDE SOME HEADCANONS ABOUT KWAZII AND HOW HE JOINS THE OCTONAUTS}
Ok so I'm gonna be honest this is from like 2 weeks ago when I was first getting back into the octonauts hyper fixation and the way I've drawn kwazii Has Changed since then but its still pretty close lol
Btw, that's Kobb, someone from his "mysterious pirate past" loll. His name is Kobb because its inspired from Japanese Kobolds, Hes a doberman.
He comes off as a guy with very quiet and threatening aura full of silent intense states, but really he's a sweetheart. He's not very talkative, but he adores children (knew kwazii since he was a kitten) and is the type to take the blame to keep others safe. He's really a shantyman, (I'll have to dump all my pirate lore and how it works in the octonauts universe in another post, I'll link it when I do) and that doesn't just mean like singing songs, but also communication of ship orders via long distance with flags, whistles, howls, and such.
He also knows how to work a canon :)
INFODUMP ON KWAZII HERE:
I would give kwazii some sick pirate earrings and all that jazz, but honestly dude lets be real there be BARACUDAS and YEAH.
He switches his eye patch between his eyes because apparently pirates mightve used em to effectively train their eyes to see in the dark better? Very cool to me, so for below deck and night raids which makes sense. The smudged eyeliner is also just Kohl, which is an old thing that alot people still use because they believe it improves the health and vision of the eyes. Makes extra sense when I remember cats see in the dark lol.
Kwazii was a bit of a lookout in his preteen years and such.
Ive got a lot of ideas and like genuine plot for the octonauts in general so I'll have to make a list and post em one by one.
Basic timeline for kwazii though (Im explaining how pirates work in this universe on another post) so kwaziis born into a pirate clan and well his grandad was the captain and all that jazz. He's raised with em and gets the Pirate Education of reading, math, navigation, Pirate Battle Tactics, Pirate Politics, how to bribe sea life, how to stab and no be stabbed, steering boats, water currents and maps, How To Survive If ShipWrecked, and etc.
All cool, all silly pirate times for our ADHD kitty, around age 10 is when calico jack left in my timeline, (also y'all I'm just now getting to watching above and beyond so if I mess stuff up gimme some grace please :'> ), and they expected the guy to come back a year or two after satisfying the treasure itch but he just... didn't.
3 or so years later, some drama happens in the crew happens and eventually kwazii ends up going solo at the age of 13, (he wants to get treasure and adventure just like his grandad, maybe even find him!) its pretty rough at first and the most social interaction he gets is sea life or just people at ports he visits lol. He does successfully hunt out treasure (and bully unethical fishermen, he and the dolphin pod are still great friends) and etc. He even found an abandoned lighthouse on an island (weird, but hey! free pirate hideout) and he was just living like that till he ended up meeting none other than captain barnacles!
The thing is the octonauts were like like getting a crew together at all, and the only one that was really there (other than tweak and the prof) was shellington and well. Needless to say they're understaffed lmso.
So barnacles has been chasing this dolphin pod, well he tried to nicely ask if he could tag some of em for scientific purposes but well, they thought it was a game and now they're convinced they're playing tag. Of course the captain still isn't experienced in Being An Octonaut, and well gup A might end up getting wrecked by some rocks he crashes into. And then he's just stranded on the rocks above the waves and oh wow did you know that the land above the water is even hotter than the water?
Anyways he's just melting and questioning his life choices because, like what's he supposed to do wait for tweak to pedal to him on the gup f 😫🙏like be for real man that must've suuuuccked
anyways he just sees this tiny boat with this even tinier guy on it??? sailing to him???
(sorry if they sound outta character lol)
"Oh... H-HhhIiiii"
"Y'know them phins told me some big furry thing crashed but I didn't expect it to be- You alright big fella?"
"mM nO I think.. YeAhp, Im ALL GO ooOD."
"Ive got shade and water?"
Oh sh- fr? " Thank you tiny man"
"Awh man ya don't even got a wallet on ya, oh well."
--------------
"So are you still a beached whale or ah?"
"I-I'm fine, thank you I simply, well I'm feeling better I just need you to drop me off at this location."
"Y'sure you're not still about t' feed the fish? On accounta all o the uh, squiffy looks ye have?"
At this point barnacles is just doubly wondering what his life is, because either he's still under the effects of overheating or this guy has said "me clipper" in reference to his boat 3 times already. He was actually very grateful but honestly was this guy even real???
"I... don't think so?"
"M yeah yeah, so what's a walkin Nothern whale even doin out here?"
Was that an insult or- No he seems far too friendly- If a bit rough, maybe scraggly looking-
After a very lengthy, educated explanation of his goal and dreams of the octonauts and all they would accomplish- He'd realized the cat had been stared at him with the biggest blankest eyes he'd ever seen-
And then in a second they snapped to clarity-
"OHHHHHHHH- so yer like, some sorta ah, sciency type... a nerd ha! Well alright that's nice for ya"
The ginger cat didn't even have an ounce of mocking in his tone either- He was really just stating a fact. He really hoped he seemed like a strong dependable nerd at least. ᴹᵃʸᵇᵉ ᵉᵛᵉⁿ ᵃ ˡᶦᵗᵗˡᵉ ʰᵉʳᵒᶦᶜ⁻
They'd bid farewell. A stranger helped a stranger and that was the end.
Or it wouldve been until he'd been struggling to find some little sea creatures in a reef and he'd just so happened to come across a certain cocky cat. Of course, the guy was happy to help, he was friends with the little critters after all!
Silly fun little coincidence and wow kwazii sure is decently good with this haha well good bye (again)-
They meet again and this time Kwaziis boat has been absolutely wrecked. And wow captain you're not really gonna wreck a poor pirates boat (one who helped ya plenty) to just suffer when your whole motto is explore RESCUE protect are ya?
So until Kwazii could get to his safe spot, (an abandoned lighthouse he turned into his own 'secret pirate base') to repair the thing, he was... kinda just stuck in the octopod.
And well- He was grateful, and very very curious, being cat and all that.
He'd never dove so deep into the water before! And he certainly hadn't ever seen such cute curious creatures as the (admittedly very young at the time) vegimals, and well of course he'd help Tweak try out the new speedy gup she was makin, anythin to help around-
By the time they get there well.... Barnacles has realized that Kwazii is well, Kwazii is kind of the exact person he'd been struggling to find.
Quick to learn, quicker to act, understood navigation and sea currents, gifted at diving, capable of steering subs well, crafty when dealing with the unique challenges of dealing with sea life and-
Well, he was also possibly a very good and kind friend. A strange one, but well, a very very good one.
They were about to say good bye, but well, the captain lamented on how he hoped kwazii would have good luck with treasure hunting, and he well maybe he kinda hoped he'd find someone at least half as good as him to help.
And well, who said he couldn't be a pirate AND an octonaut? Since the captain, you know, really needed the help- BESIDES, he probably had a way better of finding treasure when going UNDER the water- AND WELL, what pirate could say no to adventure and-
And kwazii was not a legally recognized citizen of any country so he couldn't legally become an octonaut.
Getting legal documentation for a lone pirate cat he'd met in the middle of the ocean wasn't on the captains bingo card. At least he... sort of knew what taxes were....
"Well what's your place of birth at least?!"
"Uhhh I dunno, a boat?"
"Okay- But, But w he r e ?"
"The ocean, matie???"
"In what waters though? Like- Like near what country???"
"... I dunno just like, the middle 'o it?"
"Kwazii I cant put "the middle of the ocean" as your place of birth!"
"Why not? its true-"
A very fun process for everyone that didn't include long wait times or long explanations of why on earth aren't you legal anywhere- or even shorter "explanations" of thats what makes a mysterious pirate past mysterious me heartie
anyways my brain is broken have fun lol
also I finally finished captain barnacles drawing today lol I'll post later

Dewey Finn headcanons because this is the only place I can be freely cringe and make whatever headcanons I want (Mufinn headcanons are coming trust🙏)
Ate rocks as a kid. Not like sucking on them but literally chewing and swallowing them.
He loves telling dad jokes.
He’s allergic to cats but will not hesitate to pet a stray one.
Sort of going along with the dad jokes thing, he also makes “your mom” jokes.
He had an emo/goth phase when he was a teenager.
He can definitely read but he’s terrible at spelling and once put a D in “Orange.” /ref
He has adhd and autism.
He can fall asleep in the most random places. He once fell asleep on the roof.
He drinks coffee like it’s water.
He will stare at someone for an uncomfortable amount of time for no apparent reason.
Don’t give him a Redbull.
He’s always going on about how rock is the best genre of music but secretly listens to white girl music.
Almost accidentally stole a pack of gum from the checkout when he was like eight.
Something he doesn’t want other people to know is that if you play with his hair long enough he’ll fall asleep.
Was very close with his mother; she got him his first guitar on his tenth birthday.
Rock is his special interest and will yap about it any chance he gets.
He’s pansexual.
He calls people by the stupidest nicknames.
His class sees him as sort of another parent to them; he’s sort of like a dad to them.
He acts on impulse; if he’s in love with someone he will most likely do something to make it obvious before he loses his mind (Which is ironic because he’s normally oblivious to any feelings someone may have for him).
He has a three year old niece and he sometimes lets her paint his nails. Sometimes he’ll go into work with glittery nails.
His love language is playful banter and sometimes physical affection (sudden hugs from behind, etc.).
He’ll fall asleep with his guitar in bed with him sometimes.
He’s fallen asleep at his desk multiple times.
Really likes those rolly/spinny chairs and will make himself puke by spinning for so long.
He gets very irritated if he’s hungry. Feed him.
Went to his first concert when he was about thirteen.
He has mild depression.
He’s dyslexic.
Once Googled “How many ants could fit in the Sun?”
He still counts on his fingers.
Very bad with social cues. Not in a shy/quirky way, but in a “Might accidentally laugh during a funeral way.”
He actually tried a cigarette once when he was about seventeen and immediately went into a coughing fit. He never did it again.
“Math is useless,” he says, even though he sometimes forgets what year it is.
Forgets his students aren’t his actual children + calls them by nicknames all the time.
Still has beef with Summer for some reason.
Tomika usually only talks to him any time she actually decides to speak (besides her dads).
He’s the type of guy to often trip over literally nothing.
He’s very touch starved. He tends to hang on for a while when he’s hugging someone.
One of the first things he learned on guitar was the riff from the Weezer song Buddy Holly.
He has a VERY subtle lisp. It’s not exactly something you’d notice upon first meeting him.
If you lend him money, you will most likely not get it back.
He desperately needs a hug, he just won’t admit it.
He most likely has an ex boyfriend.
He uses weird slang like awesomesauce, cool beans, etc.
He’s been in multiple near death situations and it’s actually crazy that he’s still alive.
He’s come to work with a hangover multiple times.
Everyone he knows is convinced he’s on some kind of drug.
He sometimes snorts when he laughs.
He’s a little scared of Rosalie, but still has a bit of a crush on her (huge crush actually)
He absolutely loves forehead kisses, but you could not torture that information out of him.
His students eventually caught on to Dewey and Rosalie’s whole dynamic so they start giggling and making kissy noises any time they interact.
He’s a bit of a Sonic fan. He played some of the games when he was younger and absolutely loves the soundtracks in the newer games (He doesn’t tell anyone, but his favorite character is Tails).
He uses the middle finger like his life depends on it.
He’s a big sleep talker.
His students see him as sort of a father figure.
He will make out with anyone if he’s drunk enough, regardless of gender.

The Quincys Around Kids
Again, SUPER open to criticism, discussion, and additions. I love talking to people <3
Quilge: He hates them and he doesn't want to be around them, but he's not aggressive. Just stiff and uncomfortable. Like, maybe they bumble around and show him their toys and he just goes "Ohhhh, wow that's... that's greaaattttt." Honestly, he prefers teens. They can just mutually ignore each other.
Askin: Doesn't hate them, but also doesn't exactly "like" them. They're messy and loud and gross. He'll be a nice wine uncle though, bring them little gifts that their parents disapprove of like fake tattoos and clip-on piercings.
Mask De Masculine: He's the best possible Quincy you could ever leave your kid with. Mask can be gentle but he can just as easily be rough, depending on the kid. Wanna wrestle? Why not. He'll wrestle a three-year-old, but he'll have also have enough restraint to get on their level. Timid kid that just wants to draw? Heck yeah! He'll sit down at your Dora table and draw all day! Though... he might break the matching Dora chairs-
Nanana: Also a pretty chill dude to leave your kid with. He's probably going to sit back and just chill and play video games or board games with them. One of my headcanons is that he's a mathematician at heart because it just sounds awesome paired with his "Morphine Pattern" Grids. He'd be more than happy to help with math homework, whether it be addition, time, or (his favorite) graphing.
Uryu: He's awkward around kids. Like, he likes them, and he has a way with them. However, something about him just DRAWS kids towards him. Kids love this poor man, happy to play and draw and hang out with him, and he just stands there and lets them drag him away like "Uhhhh, okayyyy, where are we goinggg???" and then he's stuck playing barbies for three hours (he loves it)
Giselle: ... ... no.
Gremmy: He's being nice, but also the kids are terrified of him. If he finds a child that ISN'T afraid of him, they'll probably grab a huge box and play rocketship. Gremmy feels like a rocketship-player.
Äs Nödt: Horrendous with children. He's tried being timid, and proceeds to get walked on. He's tried being more intense, and proceeds to scare them. He can't really find a balance in interacting with kids so he simply... doesn't.
Jugram: Please don't leave your child with this man, he will show them around the Silbern and there are things in the Silbern that children should NOT be seeing. Like war things and his collection of knives (he's totally a knife collector)
Ryūken: We see how he is with Uryu. This man cares for almost nothing, he's dull and cold and doesn't really connect emotionally with ANYTHING
Bazz-B: One would think that because of his aggression and punk guy attitude that Bazz isn't good with kids, and they'd be wrong. He's awesome with kids. He'll take them on his motorcycle (he totally has a motorcycle and does donuts in Hueco Mundo), he'll get them some ice cream, and he'll buy them some Pokémon cards. They'll probably play Xbox all day, even if the kid can't figure out the controls
Bambietta: Might scare the kid even if she doesn't mean it, she's pretty intense and explosive, but with a kid that can match her energy? I can see her taking them outside and blowing things up with them, either literally or with little soldier toys, making mouth noises for the explosions
Yhwach: I mean... you COULD leave your child with this man. You shouldn't, but you COULD. Sure, they'd be alive and well and probably happy at the end of the day, since I can definitely see him being calm and level-headed and sweet with a child. But the kid might also have a new little baby Sternritter uniform
Robert Accutrone: He doesn't talk to the kid, since he doesn't know what to really say, however, he does make them pancakes and turn on Bluey or Steven Universe for them. Have a lazy day

Pigtails | Robin Buckley x Reader
Tumblr media
Masterlist | R.B Masterlist
Words: 2.3k
Summary: Robin was mean to you in elementary school and now there's an opportunity to be friends like you once were, or perhaps possibly more.
✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧
Robin's name felt awful on your tongue. Robin Buckley. The girl who had been a thorn in your side since you were five, the start of elementary school. She infuriated you like no other person in the world could.
During your first interaction, you were a tiny kid wanting to make friends with everyone who you came into contact with, Robin included. And you and a group of six other children had been friends for a while. You enjoyed her company, she also liked doing rough play of wrestling and rolling in the mud, making empires in the sandpit, and sprinting around as fast as you could to try and catch the other in tag. There were a few occasional sleepovers thrown in the mix as well whenever both of your parents could agree on playdate times.
Though at around the age of nine, Robin developed a sudden interest in annoying you in the most pestering ways possible. She enjoyed mocking whatever you said in a high-pitched tone, pushing you around too roughly in games, and sticking her leg out to trip you. You took it to heart and didn't want to put up with her anymore. If the girl didn't like you then she could have just said instead of trying to make your life a living hell.
It was confusing though. She would still send you crooked smiles from across the room in class when she caught your eye, so clearly she didn't hate you. But still, you didn't like feeling humiliated and belittled during recess, so as you both grew and your friendship groups separated into smaller ones, the two of you joined different ones.
Due to the nature of the tiny town of Hawkins, you remained in the same schooling system throughout your whole educational life, and still sometimes ended up in the same classes. You'd mostly learned to just ignore her, especially since you haven't properly talked to her since you were eleven, she just wasn't on your radar anymore. Occasionally you would see her gaze lingering on your form for a second too long, but she would always look away immediately if you looked back at her. It was weird. But you didn't care enough to take much notice.
---
"Can someone please put me out of my misery", you groaned and flopped forward onto your backpack that was sitting on the cafeteria table when looking at your new timetable for senior year. Economics, Physics, Chemistry, and Maths as the first half of the day back to back. That was rough. Your friends just laughed at your pain, not having the same timetable as you it was very amusing to them.
With a small shake of your head, you looked at them with a scowl, before breaking out into a smile and shaking your head more, "You're all assholes and I hope that karma kicks your asses", you huffed out, shouldering your backpack and walking away with a mock grin on your face.
Walking through the wide hallway to your first class of the day, Economics, you worked hard to avoid all of the hustle and bustle of the crowded hall. As a freshman, you were most certainly part of the hustle and bustle, but as a senior, you could not be bothered with all that shit - walking around with a resting bitch face and using your shoulder to bash people out of the way if they flew into you without a care in the world.
Eventually, your room was reached and you walked in, holding in another groan at seeing half of the class lining up across the back of the room. That could only mean one thing, a seating plan. The classroom was set up to be desks for two, and none of your friends were in your Economics class meaning that you would be seated next to someone random.
You waited patiently at the back of the class with your peers, waiting for everyone to turn up so that the teacher could do the register and then get everyone seated. There were a few latecomers, and so it took absolutely forever for the register to be taken as the teacher was very insistent that everyone who was not ill today had to be in the room before seating everyone so that he didn't have to get the chart out again if someone showed up late.
So, fifteen minutes passed of awkward silence with people looking as though they would rather be in Hell than this classroom before the teacher could finally take the register. There was no one really notable other than Robin, but she wasn't really in issue. The two of you hadn't bothered each other in years. Within minutes your name was called to seat at one of the back corner tables. A Cheshire cat grin appeared on your face, that was the absolute jackpot.
Happily seated, you began to unpack your notebook and pens, and then you felt the presence of someone sitting down next to you. You turned your face, getting ready to be polite and say hi, but then you saw it was Robin who was smiling sheepishly at you with a small blush on her cheeks. "Hey", you said rather bluntly whilst writing the date at the top of your notebook. "Hi", she replied with a chipper tone, making you frown slightly whilst writing, your friendship ended rather awkwardly and yet she sounded completely unaffected by said awkwardness.
A tight-lipped smile appeared on your face when you looked at her in response before the teacher called everyone's attention back to the front. The class went ahead with no problems thus far, the both of you just jotting notes down. Until the teacher asked for a small partner discussion of the topic for the rest of the class. Internally, you rolled your eyes. You didn't have a problem with Robin as a person, she seemed perfectly lovely to everyone with some interesting hobbies and a decent sense of humour. It's just that you didn't want her potentially being the same as when you were kids, by making you feel small, even if the chance of that was small, you had both grown up after all.
"So... do you have any thoughts first?", she hesitantly asked, sensing an awkward tension. You shook your head and looked at her, seeing that she was looking at you softly like she always did making you feel slightly bad that you were being so blunt with her. "Okay...", she again spoke hesitantly before voicing a few of her thoughts to try and prompt you to join in with the partnered discussion that you had been asked to do. Though when you still remained ever silent, occasionally nodding along with blank eyes she grimaced slightly internally. "Is there- is there a problem?".
"Huh?", you spoke for the first time in a while, and even then it was barely a word. Robin's lips quirked to the side in thought, "You've barely said a word to me, and you seem a bit- I don't know... annoyed?".
A sigh escaped your lips, only further proving Robin's suspicions about the situation. This wasn't really a topic that you would have liked to get into in class, but it wasn't as though you could dodge the question. "Look... you may think that it's petty for having a grudge from like middle school or whatever- but we were friends and then one day you just started being like, I don't know, mean? I get that it wasn't bullying or anything but you just teased me a lot and it seemed to amuse you so I guess I just don't feel all that comfortable right now...", you explained with a soft tone.
Robin's eyes widened with panic as her cheeks blushed a deep red, "Oh... oh shit. It all came off like I was being mean?". You nodded which only made her kick herself for being so stupid. "Sorry, that really wasn't my intent at all, I'm not good with complicated social stuff".
Your head tilted, "What was complicated, Rob? We were friends and then there just seemed to be a sudden switch".
She winced ever so slightly, clearly nervous about the next few words, but also wanting to clear the air with you. "Okay... you know how parents say when little boys like little girls they pull their pigtails? Which I do not condone that message by the way, but yeah in this case it was kinda... right".
Your eyebrows shot up in surprise. Robin had a little crush on you back when you were kids? It was kinda cute but also... she could have displayed it in a better manner, like picking you daisies on the field, not tripping you into a locker. "Do- do you still like me? Or was it just a middle school playground thing?".
Her head shook far too quickly for a natural response as she blurted out a no, causing a knowing smirk to appear on your face. "Uh huh... sure". Robin again blushed a deep red as her face scrunched up "...Would it bother you if I did?".
It took a moment to think about that, you played with the rings on your fingers to try and activate some brain cells into thinking. "I don't know. It's not really something I've ever thought of. I'm sorry". You felt bad, unrequited love was one of the worst things in the world. When she looked a bit like a kicked puppy at your confession you quickly jumped back in, placing a hand on her shoulder, "But it doesn't mean I can't start thinking about it, right? We haven't spoken properly in a while I feel like I don't know you as you are now, maybe we could I don't know... do like a trial date? If it goes well and we want to do another one it can be classed as the first one, and if not then we could be friends again. Sound okay?".
Robin's eyes lit up at you giving her a chance even after everything, "Yeah, sounds good. Sounds really good". You smiled with a smirk, "Okay, it's a date".
---
The car ride to Scoops Ahoy was rather awkward at first. It was the first time that you had hung out with each other alone outside of school for almost a decade, so conversing with each other was not natural yet. But, it was the same as any other date with people that you don't know, it's always slightly awkward until you find common ground within some small talk to branch off of.
Robin was playing with the rings on her fingers as you drove, clearly anxious that the current silence meant that the whole thing was doomed to be a car crash. This was something that she had been wanting since she was a kid, now it was here she was terrified of it being ripped away as soon as she got it.
When getting out of the car in the carpark, you sent her a reassuring smile. She smiled back as you took your steps into the mall, no one speaking. Admittedly, this probably was the longest you had been without talking on a date before. "So... what kinda hobbies are you into lately?". A cliche piece of small talk but it seemed essential so that you didn't cry from the awkwardness.
Robin seemed pleasantly surprised and gave a shy smile, "I still do music, and I like to ride my bike to different places that are quiet and just... sit. Might sound sad or whatever but-".
"No, no", you interrupted, the corners of your lips twitching up slightly, "That's not sad, It's nice. Serenity, peace. It's needed sometimes". She nodded, again pleasantly surprised, "And what about you?".
"Me? I still adore reading, and collecting tapes because I can never ever sit in silence", you chuckle slightly, Robin mirroring you. Before you knew it you arrived at Scoops and ordered your sundaes. Now that the ice was broken, there was consistent chatter, even though most of it was still small talk. So far, you'd covered the bases of your favourite foods, colours, what movies you like, what jobs you'd like to do, what you'd been up to in your teen years. But then you ventured onto existential topics and discovered that you both liked scaring yourself shitless by thinking about all the unknown.
From there conversation was like child's play. Anything and everything was discussed, and you even got onto planning which countries you wanted to visit and started discussing what you'd do if you went together. Robin mentioned how she had always wanted to go to France, and you both enthusiastically spoke about all of the tourist attractions within Paris that you'd seen in travel guides.
In terms of a date, you thought that it was going very well, considering how you had to be subtle about it because of society being an ass. But there were a few times where you made sure to brush your hand with Robin's and smiled out how flustered she seemed to get. It was nice.
As you shrugged your jacket back onto your shoulders you spotted a hiring poster on the wall and chuckled, "You should apply to work here so you can afford to take me on more dates", you teased. She laughed along with you, but then your head tilted when she seemed to look at the poster again to look at the details. "So, there'll be another date?", she asked when the two of you began heading out.
"You want one?". She nodded eagerly and you smiled gently, "Then yes, there'll be another one". You got into your car and watched as she got into the passenger seat. You were about to turn the ignition key when she grasped your hand and looked at you with sincerity, "Thank you for giving me another chance".
A grin appeared on your lips as you slowly nodded, "You deserved one, you're alright I suppose", you shrugged with a small smirk as she placed a hand on her chest with fake hurt before you both burst out laughing as you pulled out of the parking space, laughing again when you spotted a Scoops Ahoy hiring flyer stuffed into her jacket pocket.

What would the Valar’s reaction be to a modern woman from our world showing them D&D? Who’s going to be really into the game?
Tumblr media
𝓐𝓝 ~ Oooh very interesting question! Thanks a lot for the ask, I had so much fun thinking about this ^^
𝓕𝓮𝓪𝓽𝓾𝓻𝓲𝓷𝓰 ~ All the Valar! I couldn't resist... Enjoy!
Tumblr media
In general, I think that all the Valar would be at least curious, if not excited to hear about the games modern humans play and try it out for themselves, considering how the Ainur have always been looking forward to interacting with the Children of Ilúvatar.
⊹ ࣪ ˖ Manwë
As a poet and writer, he's immediately in love with the concept of collaborative storytelling. You can expect elaborate worldbuilding and character backstories from him (especially ones that involve reconciling with an estranged sibling) and he loves to write small side stories and fanfic about the cast. Manwë also wouldn't mind being the group's forever DM once he learns how to run a game.
⊹ ࣪ ˖ Varda
Being less excitable than her husband and not always in a playful mood, Varda may choose to watch at first, but she's certainly intrigued by the concept of D&D and she enjoys the mathematical aspects of it, always calculating everybody's chance of success. Once she decides to play, she may surprise the other players with how ruthless and cunning she can be - a menace both in political intrigue and combat-heavy campaigns. Varda also loves seeing Manwë and the others having fun.
⊹ ࣪ ˖ Ulmo
Ulmo in particular is always very fond of the Children and the things they come up with. He too may be hesitant to join in at first, but he's always down to do some voice acting or provide some tasteful background music. If he joins the group, he'll probably need the occasional explanation and reminder how things work on land and that his character might not be able to swim as well as he can (keep an eye on him especially if he plays a class that uses armor).
⊹ ࣪ ˖ Aulë
If he isn't sold on the game immediately, he will be once you tell him that he can play a dwarf. Aside from storytelling, combat and roleplay, Aulë swiftly becomes fond of everyone's favorite shiny math rocks and is more than happy to make custom dice for everybody's characters, satisfying all their dice goblin needs. Important note for the DM: Aulë is an inventor and (in)famous for creating his dwarves in his workshop - do not let him play an artificer if you value your sanity.
⊹ ࣪ ˖ Yavanna
Whether she's aware of tree hugger stereotype or not, she has absolutely no shame and will indulge her preferences by playing nature-based classes such druids or shamans and finds it cathartic to bring nature's wrath into battle in ways she can't in real life. Aside from indulging the occasional destructive or vengeful impulse, Yavanna may default to being the party mom, fiercely protective and supportive of everyone involved in and out of game.
⊹ ࣪ ˖ Vána
Vána loves the concept of the game and is eager to play. Once she learns the basics, she gets really into character and is excited to play with ideas that are very much unlike the flower girl persona people expect from her, always remaking and reinventing tropes and archetypes that catch her fancy. Like Manwë, you can expect her to never miss a game and be very passionate about it.
⊹ ࣪ ˖ Oromë
Talking about and imagining slaying monsters instead of actually doing it isn't exactly to Oromë's liking, but he isn't opposed to indulging in a fun tale of adventure on cozy evenings at the campfire. After he's been sufficiently introduced to D&D culture, memes and inside jokes, he embarks on a personal side campaign to prove to everyone just how cool his personal brand of ranger can be.
⊹ ࣪ ˖ Tulkas
Similar to his good friend Oromë, Tulkas isn't fond of activities that involve sitting still. His creativity and imagination isn't the best either, but at least he's always willing to play frontline and martial classes, which will come in handy especially in groups where most players have their sights on fancy casters and/or fun support builds. Tulkas is a fun guy to be around if you don't piss him off and so are his characters.
⊹ ࣪ ˖ Nessa
Like her brother and husband, Nessa also enjoys being active. If she decides to give the game a try, she's very expressive, gestures a lot and may act out small scenes if given the chance. As fun as this is during roleplay, sitting close to her during combat segments while she shows you how exactly she's smacking her enemies is not recommended, especially if she plays a monk.
⊹ ࣪ ˖ Námo
Námo isn't known for his playfulness, however this doesn't mean he's opposed to engaging with the game. In fact, he quite enjoys slipping into a different role and mindset for a while - having to be the impartial judge and observer all the time can be tiring after all. Another aspect of D&D he may enjoy is, surprisingly enough, the element of randomness: His foresight allows him to know the future, but not every little detail, and a couple of dice rolls in a roleplaying game are probably not important prophecies Eru gave him. It may feel refreshing for Námo to be surprised.
⊹ ࣪ ˖ Vairë
No matter how casual any given session is, Vairë arrives in full cosplay, really getting into character creation like Manwë does as well, though as usual she's more practical about it. Additionally, she keeps a cute notebook as a campaign journal in which she records all the fun little details and great moments the players experienced together. She also enjoys creating fan content for the campaign.
⊹ ࣪ ˖ Irmo
Irmo has quite a vivid imagination and has always adored roleplaying, so he's immediately on board. It's by far his favorite part of the D&D experience, though he quickly finds that he enjoys combat and puzzle solving sequences as well. He's the one to initiate and drive a lot, if not most of the character interactions, helps advancing their character arcs and is just a joy to have at the table. Class-wise, he's definitely a bard player and will happily perform his songs and flirtatious lines in real life too.
⊹ ࣪ ˖ Estë
It may come as a shock and surprise to the other players that Estë categorically refuses to be the party healer, at least on her first playthrough. Like Vána, she's eager to explore other roles through her characters. No matter what she decides to play, her character may strike up an in-game rivalry with Irmo's character to spice things up and both of them have way too much fun bickering.
⊹ ࣪ ˖ Nienna
She most likely takes a back seat at first, letting others play the game, observing to learn the rules and quietly enjoying the stories they tell. Encouraged by her family, Nienna joins in eventually, provided she's currently in the right headspace for it (being the Lady of Grief, she sometimes feels mentally and emotionally exhausted, in which case she prefers to just sit there, relax and unwind by being in the presence of her loved ones). As a player, she enjoys roleplaying the most, but also does well with puzzles since she's a keen observer and listener.
⊹ ࣪ ˖ Melkor
Well. Melkor is most certainly going to be that guy at the table. He likes to derail campaigns, especially if they're Manwë's, tests the limits of the rules (and everyone's patience) and wants kills and loot. Once he familiarizes himself with the game's mechanics, he exploits them and likes to powergame. The one concept Melkor has trouble grasping is that D&D isn't a game you play to "win". Simply put, he very much has fun, but isn't fun to play with for a lot of other players; however, if you want to play a meme or evil campaign, he's your guy.
Side note: If Melkor plays with his own friend group he may also chill out for once.
Side note 2: Don't let him DM unless, again, you want the kind of campaign he'll come up with.
Side note 3: Watch your shiny math rocks. Melkor likes shiny.

Thanks for the tag @mars9d!! Sorry, I only now got around to do it 🙈
Get to know your mutuals game (I copy pasted the questions from some post I found on here and answered some of the questions as I am very boring and not really in any fandom that is alive lol)
What's the origin of your blog's title? The Offspring song It's Cool to Hate plus I like skating ._.
Favorite color: Green but I am a big defender of yellow as well
Favorite game: Hmmm probably Sly 2 - Band of Thieves because to this day it's still so fun to play and brings back the best childhood memories
Song stuck in your head: Turn Your Back by Billy Talent
Weirdest habit/trait? Is talking to your cats as if they were your children weird?
Hobbies: Table tennis 🏓
If you could have any job you wish what would it be? I'd not work at all because work sucks, I know but also definitely Astronaut on the ISS but too late for that now I guess 🥲
Something you're good at: I'm good at not giving a shit I think
Something you're bad at: Talking, any form of interaction, picking up on social cues
Something you excel at: Raging against the machine Dima >:(
Something you love: My cat. I love her more than anything in the world :(
Something you could talk about for hours off the cuff: Space, rockets, table tennis, Latin American history and current politics
Something you hate: The times we live in. The bourgeoisie. Men. Capitalism. Fake allies. Antisemitic lefties. Cops. People who call themselves centrists and anyone to the right of that. Also, Dima specifically.
Something you collect: Trauma
Something you forget: Way too much sadly
What's your love language? Idk I think spending time together, collecting memories and creating inside jokes from those which leads to having the most incomprehensible conversations from the outside view
Favorite movie/show: Half Nelson and favourite show maybe Neon Genesis Evangelion? Idk I don't really have a favourite show
Favorite food: Empanadas maybe? Idk it changes
Favorite animal: Penguins, they're so silly
Are you musical? I used to be okay at the piano and medium bad at the guitar but haven't practiced either in ages :(
What were you like as a child? Quiet, shy, a loner
Favorite subject at school? Maths at first and then physics and chemistry
Least favorite subject? Arts. I'm not creative guys :((
What's your best character trait? I think I am kind and true to myself
What's your worst character trait? I'm bad at giving people presents to certain deadlines (birthdays, Christmas). It's usually I just see something that reminds me of a friend and will give it to them at any given moment but I'm generally not very materialistic so I find it hard ._.
If you could travel in time who would you like to meet? Neil Armstrong maybe?
Last but not least, show your favorite fanart of your favorite character(s):
source (I know this is an edit but I don't really have anything else come to mind and I need to spread the zulema/hierro vis a vis agenda)

ey remember when i said the lore about how PJ!Mr. Puzzles saw one TV show not meant for kids and that's what caused his death?
That was a fucking lie.
TW/CW! Suicide, Injury, Brain Damage, and Hospital Mention
Puzzlevision Junior was a TV company made for kids to watch TV without parents worrying about them seeing something that they wouldn't like them to. There were budget options, like "Puzzlevison Mini", which was a plug-in/attachment to a pre-existing TV so they wouldn't have to buy the whole thing.
But the Puzzlevison Junior Television had lots more to offer than the "Puzzlevision Mini". You could play inbuilt games with the custom remote, which came with the TV, so kids could play and learn on specific channels built into the TV. Interactive shows could be watched as well, where the child chooses answers that would be helpful later in life, like solving math questions and choosing the most morally correct option.
Soon after, the first-ever intelligent TV, "Mr. Puzzles" was made. A friend that children could talk to or play with when the parents weren't able to, filled with safety features and physical games the child could play. The body could even go inside the TV, so the robot could work as a TV. It could be "programmed" to turn off or do specific things at certain times. It was an engineering wonder
The TV itself was too expensive, as well as the robot, causing the company to go into bankruptcy.
The CEO of the company was caught in a freak accident, getting caught in one of the areas of the factory where the TVs were being made, right where the screens of the TVs would get screwed on. A coworker stopped the machine before he was killed, but it was too late. He was rushed to the hospital, as two screws entered his forehead, going straight through the skull, and damaging the frontal lobe as well as other areas of his brain. He lived for 3 agonizing days, and it was clear he had gone off the deep end. He couldn't even remember his name. He was found dead on the night of the third day, as he had left hospital grounds and had sawed off his head. A Puzzlevision Jr. TV, specifically one that belonged to the "Mr. Puzzles" line, was found right beside his neck.
Parents alike had returned their products back to the company, and most had been sold for parts or scrapped completely. Some Puzzlevision Jr. robots were repurposed for other duties, and some were simply abandoned, left to rust on shelves of stores.
Unfortunate, is it not?
~
HOOOOOOOOO BOY I HOPE YOU LIKE THIS ONE! :)))))

The Role of Abacus in Developing Mathematical Confidence
How the Abacus Boosts Mathematical Confidence
The abacus, a tool with origins tracing back thousands of years, remains an invaluable instrument in modern education. Far from being obsolete, this simple yet powerful device has proven to be a cornerstone in developing mathematical confidence, especially among young learners.
Building a Strong Foundation
At its core, the abacus transforms abstract mathematical concepts into tangible, visual, and tactile experiences. For many students, numbers and calculations can feel overwhelming, especially when introduced in traditional formats like equations or symbols. The abacus bridges this gap by offering a hands-on approach. Moving beads to represent numbers allows learners to physically interact with math, making concepts like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division more accessible and less intimidating.
Improving Concentration and Focus
Using the abacus requires concentration and precision. As students manipulate the beads, they learn to focus on each step of the calculation, developing discipline and patience. This repeated practice not only sharpens their mental math skills but also instills a sense of accomplishment with every correct answer. Over time, these small wins boost their confidence in handling increasingly complex mathematical problems.
Enhancing Memory and Visualization Skills
One of the unique benefits of the abacus is its ability to train the brain to perform mental calculations. As students become proficient, they often transition from the physical abacus to an imaginary one, visualizing bead movements in their minds. This practice enhances memory retention, spatial awareness, and cognitive flexibility—skills that extend beyond math to other areas of learning and problem-solving.
Breaking the Fear of Math
Math anxiety is a common barrier for many students. The abacus, with its playful and interactive nature, removes the fear associated with numbers. It reframes math as a game of patterns and strategies rather than a rigid subject. This shift in perspective transforms reluctant learners into enthusiastic participants, empowering them to approach math with curiosity and confidence.
Lifelong Benefits
The skills developed through abacus training—focus, visualization, memory, and problem-solving—are not limited to mathematics. They lay the groundwork for analytical thinking and decision-making in everyday life. Whether a student pursues a career in science, business, or the arts, the confidence gained through mastering the abacus becomes a lifelong asset.
In conclusion, the abacus is much more than an ancient calculating tool; it is a gateway to building mathematical confidence. By simplifying complex concepts, fostering focus, and encouraging mental agility, the abacus empowers learners to conquer math with self-assurance and enthusiasm. In a world increasingly reliant on technology, the abacus reminds us that sometimes, the simplest tools can make the most profound impact.

what say you about a potentiallllllllllll museum guide au
Reese, Reese, this is such a treat, I adore you. [AU ask game, send me an AU, I'll give you 5 things from it, or more because I'll fight maths and I'll win]
Museum guide AU premise: Okay, okay, so Taako's a museum guide and today he's fucking done, he's just absolutely fucking done. So he's going off script and he's telling the truth instead of the shitty glossed over versions, and he's going to make sure everyone is as uncomfortable as he is about all the bullshit they stole here. Kravitz is on the tour with his Mums and they're getting more and more gleeful as the tour goes. Raven is absolutely egging him on. 1) Taako works as a museum guide and his favourite is when he gets to work with children and young people because he can make it interactive and fun, but they don't let him do that with the grown up groups even though he knows in his bones some of them would love interactive story time and getting to do quizzes and dress up. 2) Today the fancy people guide is off and Taako has to cover the Very Important People tour, but his boss also told him to go fast through some of the indigenous exhibits and "keep the guilting to a minimum" so Taako's going to bite. Hard. He already has to fight about this bullshit all the time - what's the point in learning half a history? It might not be pretty, but it's true.
3) There's a bloke called John on the tour who is on the board and donates generously to the museum and he's getting angrier and angrier as Taako facts his way through everything. Some of the others in the group (looking at you Raven, Kravitz, Istus) ask questions which means he spends much longer talking about the context and significance of the exhibits he was supposed to rush through. John pulls him to the side and fires him in the middle of the tour, so Taako tells everyone that's what happened and that as he's not an employee they really can't stop him talking now. So he finishes up with anyone who is interested. It's most of the people. 4) Kravitz is interested in the history but also very interested in Taako. His Mums are also very interested in Taako and whether a nice young man like him is single because their very handsome son is and wouldn't it be a coincidence if two nice young men who were right here next to each other were single [pointed looks at Kravitz].
5) Raven and Istus make a big ol' donation on the proviso that Taako gets reinstated. With their help he's allowed to do some more specialist tours including ones where he does interactive education for grown ups - he gets to dress up and tell stories and people love it.
6) (I told you, I'm too powerful to be constrained) Kravitz comes on one of the grown up interactive tours and uses his feedback slip to ask Taako out, but Taako doesn't actually read the slips, Sloane in HR does and boy does she recognise that handwriting.
7) Sloane gives Taako the slip (and Kravitz a lot of shit including sending a photo of it with "I think we should just be friends (as we're both super fucking gay.)") and he and Kravitz go on a date and everything's perfect and fine forever because I can do that. The power!

Donkey Kong Jr. Math (NES)
Developed/Published by: Nintendo Released: 27/08/1983 Completed: 29/03/2025 Completion: I can do basic arithmetic! I mean I could do it before. But I still can, so I didn’t get any worse at least.
After playing Gomoku Narabe Renju I had a choice: re-learn how to play mahjong so I could play the fifth ever game released on the Famicom or jump over to Donkey Kong Jr. Math because I hadn’t looked at that yet either.
I suppose there were other choices I could have made, but I got fixated on the fact I couldn’t find my copy of Clubhouse Games which I was pretty sure would teach me how to play mahjong again, so I decided what with me already knowing basic arithmetic, I should just look at one of Nintendo’s early attempts at edutainment (the other, “Popeye’s English Play” would only be released in Japan for obvious reason.)
Now, as we all know there’s “good” edutainment that we’re all fond of–your Oregon Trails and Carmen Sandiego’s–and there’s “bad” edutainment, things like Basic Math for the Atari 2600 (which I wrote about in exp. 2600). I think you can tell which one Donkey Kong Jr. Math is going to be.
It’s not just that it’s a maths game. It’s that like so many educational games, they somehow think that the action of doing something educational–in this case, a calculation–is enough to make it a game. Sure, in Donkey Kong Jr. Math you interact with the maths in the same way you’d play Donkey Kong Jr.–control Jr. and make him climb vines–but in every case you’re doing this to collect a number or operator to complete a calculation!
This is, obviously, very boring!
To be completely fair to Donkey Kong Jr. Math, I’m sure almost everyone played it single player, but it’s obvious that the game’s main mode, “Calculate” is meant to be played in two-player, competing to use the numbers hanging on vines and operators to calculate the number Donkey Kong is holding up before your opponent does. It’s entirely possible that the gang at Nintendo led by Toshihiko Nakago had great fun competing at this, and I suppose if you had an NES in a classroom this might be an entertaining way to do an arithmetic competition.
But I’m absolutely grasping at straws, because absolutely no one did this and anyone who had this cart at home absolutely had Super Mario Bros. or literally any other cart that they’d rather play. Like if you had a friend round, they’d absolutely rather sit and watch you play Mario hoping you’d give them a go than do maths. No one wants to do maths!
Will I ever play it again? If I get hit very hard on the head and forget basic arithmetic… sure.
Final Thought: I’m sure that much like Gomoku Narabe Renju and Mahjong were Nintendo’s attempt to make the system suit adults, this was an attempt to offer a thin veil of respectability to the console as more than just a game system along with Popeye’s English Play, and was supposed to be followed by “Donkey Kong’s Music Play” which–in its Famicom rendition at least–was absurdly planned to feature the ability to sing karaoke via the second controller’s microphone! It seems not to have happened for a few possible reasons: that it wasn’t fun, that there were copyright issues with included songs, or that it was just too hard to fit a music game on an early Famicom cartridge.
Something I have to consider, actually is that above I said “anyone who had this cart at home absolutely had … literally any other cart that they’d rather play” but in 1983 some Japanese children could have a Famicom at home and such well-meaning parents that they only had this and Popeye’s English Play for the system! Absolutely tragic.

I disliked English class largely because it was absolutely not the thing so many people on this site seem to have experienced with it.
Reading and story analysis were a secondary concern at best. Stuff like identifying real world misinformation or recognizing flawed reasoning was just not part of that class at all. It was actually the math teacher who ran a class like that (and I was the one who taught it too).
Rather than interacting with stories, the English classes at my school were about this:
Tumblr media
All of the exams and assignments were geared towards basic proficiency in English as a second language so you can pass this one test and go to a country that doesn't suck.
And to be honest I don't blame anyone for the class having such a goal. If you live in the accursed hellhole known as El Salvador then your absolute best move is generally to leave the country. The parents knew this too and felt this would give their children a much better future than a class where they think about the deeper meaning of fiction.
However, since I had already acquired this sort of proficiency by playing video games in English from a young age I managed to basically sleep my way to the top of the class with 0 effort and ace all the exams with what must have seemed like mary sue powers because the contents of it all just remained extremely basic the whole time. I even got an award for my TOEFL results, which were the highest in the school's history. Video games were a better English class than this garbage.
