I don't even really use the site but when ao3 asks for donations the most annoying people ever from both sides of the discourse crawl out of the woodwork to yell it's like either "ao3 is an IRREPLACEABLE important cornerstone of american queer history, and writing smut and keeping yourself happy and relaxed is LITERALLY resistance against fascism anyways so helping them stay up is actually activism super important if you think about it" or "you should get shot for donating to ao3 instead of to me a more DESERVING charitable cause and you are VILE for spending your own money on a thing you like instead of my cause, I bet that americans you people are monsters who are just okay with [group] suffering because you can't care about anything other than fandom"

Meh. I hate when sites have an immediate pop up offering savings if you sign up for their mailing list (or a subscription or a survey about how they’re doing or whatever). It’s like having a stranger walk up and ask for your phone number.
Give it a minute, my dude. Let’s get to know each other first. If I have something in my shopping cart and go to the checkout page, then you can ask and I might actually be interested. (Or if I’ve finished the article then, yeah, maybe I do want to get updates.)
Either that or just have a little banner somewhere offering it. Don’t just smack me in the face with it immediately.

If y'all don't see me posting as much lately it's because Metropcs is a hell carrier that has been severely throttling my data.

Bonus irony:
To find that post I first googled thanks to technological advancements, that is no longer possible. Note how I even remembered the post quite accurately, I only switched improvements for advancements. However, this returned a bunch of tangentially-related threads on Quora and Reddit and, under Images, a bunch of AI-generated motivational posters and what appears to be birthday cards for some reason?
So I returned to Tumblr where I knew I had reblogged this post. Not that you can search for screenshots or really anything. I ended up going down a certain (manually curated) tag on my blog until page 6 - a task which was only sped up by the fact that my wife personally coded our blog theme to use K/J post navigation.
All this just to say - yeah.
"every possible kind of content can be found on the internet" yeah sure except for the One fucking thing I'm looking for. why does no one want to talk about the One Singular thing I'm looking for. but yeah other than that everything is on here.

"Everything I once called home was reduced to rubble under relentless bombing. I no longer have a roof to shelter me, nor walls to protect my children. Now, we live in a tent that offers no warmth from the cold, no shield from the rain—facing each day as a battle for survival, without a home, without safety.
Tumblr media
I am sharing this donation link, not for luxury, but for walls that can give my children a sense of security again, for a roof that can protect them from the harsh nights. Any help, no matter how small, could bring back a piece of the life that was taken from us. Please, share my story. Help me rebuild a home for my family before this storm swallows us completely."

To be honest I consider DNIs kind of a logical extension of the most ridiculous Livejournal Likes: and Dislikes: profiles, the ones like Likes: Cheesecake, Evanescence, My friends :) Dislikes: War, cancer, vanilla perfume, Futurama, Evil people
i don't respect DNIs not in the sense i go out of my way to break them but in the sense that i don't respect DNIs as a concept and consider them to be something of a red flag in general.
i'm not sure how to explain it but it's the combination of usually putting very serious issues on the same level as fandom stuff, the fact that half the time people don't even know what they're against beyond 'the bad stuff' therefore even further watering these issues down, and the idea that other people are expected to manage your online existence for you.
there's a passiveness to it that i think is actually a problem and it does not surprise me in the slightest that people with DNIs tend to view what media they consume as activism. do you get what i'm saying.
