i can definitely see that

he actually prefers a lot of older things throughout time and takes a while to really get adjusted to "newer" things, but that doesn't mean he doesn't want to learn about all these new things either

ok ok ok since i finally broke and Posted about this peeve of mine i will also link chris hayes's reflections on canvassing undecided voters for john kerry, which i really think is an underappreciated text for understanding how things go; this set of snapshots in particular haunts me:

I met voters who told me they were voting for Bush, but who named their most important issue as the environment. One man told me he voted for Bush in 2000 because he thought that with Cheney, an oilman, on the ticket, the administration would finally be able to make us independent from foreign oil. A colleague spoke to a voter who had been a big Howard Dean fan, but had switched to supporting Bush after Dean lost the nomination. After half an hour in the man's house, she still couldn't make sense of his decision. Then there was the woman who called our office a few weeks before the election to tell us that though she had signed up to volunteer for Kerry she had now decided to back Bush. Why? Because the president supported stem cell research. The office became quiet as we all stopped what we were doing to listen to one of our fellow organizers try, nobly, to disabuse her of this notion. Despite having the facts on her side, the organizer didn't have much luck.

How was the internet developed: Unraveling the Origins of the Internet The internet's inception was not my doing, although I did contribute to its evolution. While the credit for inventing the Internet is often humorously attributed to Al Gore, my role in its development was more modest.

The recent passing of Ray Tomlinson, the visionary responsible for introducing email and the ubiquitous '@' symbol, triggers memories of my early career as a programmer at Bolt Beranek and Newman (BBN) in 1978, right after completing my graduate studies.

Graduating with a Master’s degree in Computer Science from UC Berkeley, I was exposed to operating systems and their intricacies, particularly within the realm of UNIX. During this period, BBN was engaged in crafting the precursor to the Internet, known as Arpanet, under the watchful guidance of DARPA’s Vint Cerf.

The alignment of interests was apparent: BBN sought UNIX kernel programmers, a rarity in 1978, while my fascination with UNIX and the ARPANET made it a natural fit for me.

To claim that Mary Winchester was worse than John Winchester when she came back to life is just blatant sexism and I will not be convinced otherwise.

Imagine you're 19 years old. Just barely an adult and still under the thumb of your oppressive family. You grew up in a violent life with violent people, and you vow to never subject your own future family to that kind of pain.

You meet a nice man. He's ordinary and handsome, and he's not a violent man from the same violent life you've lived. You know that if you marry a hunter, your kids will grow up like you did. But you lucked out. And this kind, ordinary man loves you.

Then one day, the horrible violent life you've been trying to escape from catches up with you, and it kills that kind, ordinary man. It kills your entire family. You are alone, and young, and terrified. And you know your family is responsible for this kind man's death, YOU are responsible for his death. So you make a deal to give him back the life he deserved to live. Even sacrifice the chance to bring your parents back to do so.

The demon tells you that, in ten years, he will visit you again. He tells you that you can have the life you've always dreamed of, that part of the deal is he'll keep the monsters away. And that no one will be hurt, so long as he isn't interrupted when he comes to visit in 10 years. No one will be hurt, it's part of the deal. And it won't even cost your soul. You can live. Your family can live.

You have no idea what your life will look like in ten years, you have no idea that the demon knows exactly what he'll take from you, because God himself laid out the plot to your tragic story.

Now imagine you are 29 years old. You have a husband and a toddler, and you just had a baby. Your baby is only six months old.

One night, 10 years after your family was slaughtered, you find out that the demon deal you made to save your husband's life was actually a plot to do something to your baby. You didn't know this would when you made the deal, but the demon did. And you know that you were told not to interrupt, but you fight against fate anyways, because that's your child.

You die horribly, bleeding out and burning to death above your baby's crib. You die not knowing if your family survived.

Then suddenly, you wake up in a body that's a decade older than the age you are (29 years old), and are told that two men, who are both older than youz are actually your 4 year old toddler and your 6 month old baby. Your kind, ordinary husband is dead. You died 33 years ago.

You find out that these men, your sons, are hunters. The very thing you paid in blood to prevent. And not only are they hunters, but they're fated-by-destiny hunters. Ultimate killers, designed by God himself.

And they've been through Hell, literally. They're traumatized, and they're broken, and they're violent, and they expect you to be their perfect mom. This symbol of safety and guidance and comfort that your dead husband drilled into them. The same kind, ordinary man that did this to your children.

How would you feel? 29 years old with a 33-year-old who should be a 6-month-old baby and a 37-year-old who should be 4, both with a lifetime of trauma that you don't even know how to begin to navigate. Would you be a "good mom"?

i find it absolutely fascinating how the gays will latch on to undeveloped or purely structural characters and create all sorts of lore from it. eddie munson? that dude existed as a sacrificial lamb, he was built to be a plot vessel. look what the homosexuals did to him. the marauders? an entire fandom springing from characters that were mentioned maybe once in the source material. those gays turned remus and sirius from tragic parental figures into two besties who were definitely in love.

Chinese censorship isn’t the most important thing about The Untamed. Why is it treated as though it is?

When explicit televised BLs consistently have nothing more than their explicitness to recommend them, the retreat to quality is always going to take BL fans to Chinese Danmei adaptations, called Dangai, for political substance, romantic meaningfulness and life-changing queer inspiration. I was so excited to see one of my fave BL podcast teams give this pathbreaking Dangai the in-depth tour de force it deserves.

I was however, disappointed with one aspect of this Review Conversation Podcast in that what first ensues is an enthusiastic, extended yet hollow discussion on Chinese censorship which for me somewhat overshadows an otherwise interesting and valuable discussion of the Biggest BL Drama in the World.

I believe the podcasters are acting in good faith by introducing statements such as that every country has official media censorship, but equivocating the censorship of American empire with Chinese indigenous attempts to control their own information and cultural sphere, is a false comparison I admit most stumble into without understanding the two are not comparable.

The US has the most sophisticated and thorough censorship system in human history, affecting not just the inhabitants of its own national boundaries, but also profoundly and nefariously shaping the information sphere globally for billions of people. However what’s really outstanding is that most Americans not only don’t recognise how much of their worldview is censored - from their university education to mainstream news to Hollywood shows, and therefore erroneously believe their censorship regime is the standard that should be the baseline for the rest of the planet. For example the fact many believe Chinese are poor downtrodden slave labourers; there’s a ginocyde against Uyghurs in Xinjiang; Chinese are governed by a social credit system; and Taiwan is an independent country is a triumph of the almost seamless effectiveness of American censorship globally.

The US media censorship regime is for the purpose of manufacturing imperialist wars without casus belli; generating profit from the destruction of nature, lives and livelihoods; whitewashing multiple genocides; and normalising poverty, suffering, underdevelopment, white supremacy and capitalism.

In comparison, Chinese media censorship standards are not covert so Chinese all know what is being redacted and why. China is a communist country; communism and socialism reject pornography and the commodification of human sexuality. More than 22 million Chinese fought and died to create and preserve a communist country where they can live their lives free from western oppression and especially western values which subjected them to the humiliation of colonisation, slavery, horrendous poverty and cultural degradation and whose purveyors are presently gearing up to reduce China to this state again even in 2025.

Americans are “free” to say and do almost anything in the name of self expression because their free speech changes nothing; it is impotent for improving the material circumstances of their lives - regardless of sexuality.

The free speech of Americans hasn’t been able to grant them a real wage increase in 30 years; female control over their reproductive capacities; prevent African Americans from being killed anytime with impunity by state forces; provision of affordable health care for all; end chronic homelessness, drug addiction or depression - all of which Chinese citizens have been able to achieve since the communist revolution and the rejection of western value imposition. You’re unlikely to see make-out scenes on Chinese tv that you can masturbate to but you will see state-provided trans health care being rolled out in every province.

Because of this unacknowledged context Chinese governance consistently receives the highest citizen approval in the world because it is the most responsive to delivering on the demands of its people, while the U.S. and other western liberal, capitalist nations lack this level of meaningful legitimacy as stated by their own people. This explains why it’s imperialist, chauvinist and supremacist to start from the assumption of western superiority or to hold up western values as a standard or even equal in the conduct and pursuit of human welfare.

In China the great firewall is for the purpose of protecting national economic, political and cultural sovereignty, thereby securing the continued upwards trajectory in the lives of 1.4 Billion people. The failed CIA-backed Color Revolution at Tiananmen Square is one solemn reminder of what can happen to the Chinese way of life if American values permeate their society unchecked. This is a life and death struggle for the Chinese civilisation not irrational whimsies of prejudice against minority group identity.

On the specific matter of using and misusing LGBT organising for nefarious reasons - CIA pro-democracy, liberal identity politics funding has been used to mobilise anti-government and opposition movements in the guise of funding LGBT HIV reduction programs in Cuba and in Nigeria LGBT political organising ended up with the government announcing a No Gay Marriage policy, a policy no Nigerian LGBT movements even asked for. The subsequent regime change that was so successful in one of these two countries has led to catastrophic declines in the economic and social conditions of Nigerians - LGBT people are not least among the worst affected.

Nigeria is a capitalist country which subscribes to neoliberal capitalist values as promoted by the US and Nigerians largely admire the USA, viewing it worthy of emulation; Cuba is not. Cuba, like other independent, socialist states before them, has one of the most progressive LGBTQ+ suite of legal rights in the Americas and indeed the world, particularly in its recent Family Code revisions.

These negative impacts of kowtowing to western social orthodoxies are not accidental; they are the point of disingenuous white saviour, pro-LGBT and pro-democracy orchestration in the majority world and specifically in countries targeted by the US for Regime-Change, who can discount these experiences at their own peril. Astute leadership will not.

If you want to make the lives of Chinese LGBT better and safer start campaigning for the removal of the 400 US military bases that surround China and threaten every citizen with annihilation, irrespective of sexual preference, for the crime of wanting sovereignty in choosing their own future.

I’m hoping the Part 2 of this Conversation can zero in on much more important and interesting questions such as why so many more millions, perhaps even billions of viewers continue to watch and rewatch and bond over 50+ “censored” episodes - far more than consume the sexually explicit novel or all the other sexually explicit BLs combined, and why they find this queer-coded Dangai more meaningful, more impactful to their mental health and make them feel more optimistic about queer, anti-patriarchal love and romance than more explicit LGBT works with less high viewing barriers to entry.

These are just some of my initial thoughts as I listened to that review Conversation which I hope will encourage people to dig deeper into this intellectually unfamiliar territory and come to their own conclusions especially when commenting about ways of life and being of countries, almost everything about which they know has been taught to them by China’s enemies and therefore conditioned by anti-communist propaganda under the might of the most aggressively immaculate imperial censorship regime, from cradle to grave.

WOKE SCOUT: she started taking estrogen and instead of fixing her it made her worse. She gets into fights on twitter about neopronouns and has successfully cancelled everyone she doesn't like at least once. However, as cancel culture isn't real, this only lasted about three seconds for each. She managed to pull Ms Pauling also which is pretty cool.

SOLDIERSUNE MIKU: the ghost of Shakespearicles told him to dress as Miku and redo the salem witch trials. Only knowing one witch (Merasmus), he finished this quickly and now roams the country with Zhanna (who is now Zhannagane Miku after Mikus metal counterpart) spreading malice and wonder through the power of AMERICAN SONG COVERS. He uses a wig for the Miku effect, but is working on growing his hair out also.

MITOSIS: Pyro and Engie were shagging one time and they came so hard they did mitosis. Now theres 23 babey Pyros (count em) and Engineer is a single dad. There's a lot of Pyro Mitosis Lore™ in my head, but the basics are that they evolve into either humanoid, beastial, demonic or celestial Pyros eventually.

TAVISH, KING OF THE LOCH NESS: he did it he blew up that bloody sea monster and now he is king of Loch Ness. The self loathing has died down a lot which is great for him but his body is still a scrumpty distillery which is eh. Still, he has funky water powers and his partners Soldiersune and Zhannagane come to visit often.

KEEPER OF TIME AND SPACE GUY: Heavy was mad, he knew he'd been had so he shot at the sun with a gun. Instead of being a show off like that bitch Juno, he had a nice philosophical conversation and chess match with Time and impressed Time so much he was appointed as the guardian of Time and Time's partner, Space. His guns (the six angel thingies pictured) can turn into celestial weapons which helps in the protecting but people don't shoot at the sun so often so its a relaxing enough gig really.

GODDAMMIT ENGIE: after realising how much more efficient Gunslinger was than a lame ass human hand, Engie succumbed to his hubris and eventually replaced all his body parts with robot parts. Including his dick which led to the Mitosis Incident. Anyway. His chest is a dispenser which makes projects pretty convenient and he has a mini-sentry attached to each arm and leg, making him a walking weapon. This did not help with the god complex, but it helps with the single father thing.

THE INFERNAL DOCTOR: Medic kept attaching more souls to his own and selling them to Satan for power. Satan got so sick of this eventually he attempted to beat the shit out of Medic. By now Medic was slightly more powerful than Satan so this ended with Medic absorbing Satan's powers and basically taking his place. Somehow, his relationship with the guy who is now a celestial being was unaffected by this. If they really tried they could probably ascend even further. To godhood, perhaps. In any case, Medic becoming The Devil from The Bible did nothing for the god complex.

???: Sniper just kind of fucked off into the woods one day god knows what happened to him but Scout's convinced she saw him for like three seconds a week ago and "YOU GUYS HE HAD ANTLERS I SWEAR-"

RETIRED AND BECAME A FUNCTIONING MEMBER OF SOCIETY SPY: yeah. He's very happy with Scout's Mother (Maureen), and he's letting his roots grow out (his spy agency made him dye his hair black). He's even making an effort to be a good parent to Scout, bought her the trans flag ipad cover and everything, but she just keeps trying to cancel him. Maureen's sure they'll work it out between themselves eventually, but until then she has to keep finding more secure hiding places for the ipad (the best so far was the time she buried it under a tree a mile away, took Scout at least four hours to find and retrieve it that time)

There's also YURI MS PAULING, in which she pulled a whole polycule of beautiful women, but I'll cover her in another post.
