Egotober Day 7: Leaves

It wasn’t often that Dark went outside when it was cold, given that it bothered his body in a way those with chronic pain and arthritis all knew very well most of the time. But today it wasn’t as bad and it was more a soft chill than a painful sort of cold. Plus he wasn’t alone, dark eyes glanced up at the sound of a glitch and a soft smile tugged his lips as he saw Anti glitch around the yard almost like a puppy to get rid of energy.

The glitch was acting like a big kid as he was ecstatic for fall. Dark was as well but in a much less visible exuberant way than his lover, the thick sweater under his suit jacket kept him warm as he raked up leaves and hummed softly. He actually hummed the tune to This Is Halloween and when he realized it he chuckled to himself. Well he knew what he’d ask the glitch what he wanted to watch when they went inside.

He finished raking up a pile, and with how big the manor was there’d have to be more than one made and then pooled together, Dark barely had time to register the mischievous feeling of sparks in the air.

Then Anti jumped into the pile and leaves went everywhere, he laughed and shook himself as some stuck in his hair from the static cling. He looked up at the shadow with an unrepentant grin. It widened as Dark let out a fondly exasperated sigh, expression attempting to be frustrated but failing as his eyes sparkled softly in amusement.

The expression turned into a fond smile when Anti grabbed his tie and pulled him down for a kiss.

Probably Aspirin or Sorrow, depending on your definition of angst. I think that one’s a happy ending, kind of, but I can also see how it’s not.

Sailed Calmly On, I think. It’s more explicitly bright than Somewhere to Get To’s end, and (I hope) sort of affirming.

A few vagueposts. Only maybe twice to my (digital) face! People are usually on the whole pretty nice :)

Which kind… not quite sure how to Categorize Them? Anyway the answer is: Yes, absolutely! I guess I’d say the throughline of “kind” is a focus on mutuality, decadence of experience (indulging in a fantasy, in sensation, warmth / luxury / soft treatment), and togetherness heightening relaxation and comfort. Or maybe I have a brand of smut I’m not aware of. I’ll take genre feedback, pls chime in.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest crossover you’ve ever written?

Hard to pick. The S2G2 ‘verse is very special to me, and seems the obvious choice, but for one-and-done fav fic? I might go with End of All Octobers, which I’m still pretty happy with over five months later, and find occasionally comforting.

so, i know my carrd is clunky, and messy and bad. so i've decided to make a big masterpost for kuro's hsr au. because as i play it, it is growing, and evolving as i find new things to !!! over. plus i feel it's a bit easier to just have the verse post here on my tumblr anyway where folks can see it easier.

𝐍𝐀𝐌𝐄: hamasaki kuro , just kuro please.

𝐀𝐆𝐄: 1000+ , his exact age isn't known. he's legit forgotten it.

𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐀𝐒: favored of the plagues author , cat guy ( express crew ) , killjoy , emanator of yaoshi ( not anymore. ) , more to come i'm sure...

𝐏𝐀𝐓𝐇: abundance ( previous ), later path dependent on plotting :)

as you know, kuro's home world died.

the planet just could not sustain life anymore, and while it isn't coincidence that yao/shi chose him to be an emanator- it didn't happen until the planet was dead. a husk essentially, for him to implant the power of the abundance within, and bring it back with that alone. making it completely reliant on the aeon, and an ecological horror show of never ending life and growth.

during his time as an emanator, kuro worked to spread the influence of yao/shi to other worlds too. and unfortunately, the xian/zhou was collateral damage to these endeavors. which has earned him not only a bounty, but a permanent ban from any of the xian/zhou alliance ships. the damage he did to them was... comparatively minimal to what he did to the world he was focused on at the time. but it has given him history with certain characters, that is both traumatic, and brief-- enough that it's not necessarily reliant on fine details, for kuro to be a wanted criminal by the xian/zhou and potentially in hot water with the IPC.

the reason he stepped off his path... is unknown. but there's some speculation among those who knew of him. that yao/shi abandoned him perhaps, that he saw the truth of abundance, that it terrified him. the real reason is much too complicated. and he will not discuss it with anyone.

the astral/express & jarlio/VI

kuro didn't immediately join the express, he did wander for a while. it didn't feel right to pick up a new path right away. and despite losing his status as an emanator, he'd maintained his immortality-- though he's yet to suffer the effects of mara, despite his surprisingly long life. only time will tell there.

welt and hi/meko know about kuro's past. and he is accepted a temporary passenger who's job is to help pom pom in keeping the train tidy. though his stay ends up being much longer than any of them anticipated. making a home in a large room of a secondary passenger car. where he has about 6 cats, not including mimi. who he's convinced is hyper intelligent, and has a genuine personality. he gets along with the crew as much as he can. never really putting himself out there, and usually... usually avoiding visitors to the express whenever they come by to see the mc. the only one he will come out to see consistently is ar/genti.

he really wasn't too present for the first arc, but he did leave the train with the other three. and got to see jarlio/VI with mimi. they mostly stayed out of trouble, and sorta just,,, vanished for a bit. found back on the train when it was finished.

the luo/fu, the xian/zhou, and jing/yuan

kuro really does his best to not be a part of this one. his history, as mentioned above, with the xian/zhou is not good. and he has quite the bounty on his head, despite the several of centuries since he last saw the fleet. when he does actually leave to board the luo/fu he wears some extra accessories to disguise himself. but, jing/yuan despite the distraction of the stellaron & phanty/lia... finds him.

it's after this point, that kuro's past and history with yao/shi become entirely public to everyone. and he is almost imprisoned in the shackling prison. something he barely escapes thanks to ?????????????????? then vanishes entirely from the express, along with mimi. hm.

pena/cony, boot/hill & the IPC ( a wip, im playing through it now )

long story short- kuro ends up at the pena/cony. how he gets there is still pretty up in the air. but he does have his own room.

( meaning i will be adding more to this post as i go!!! )

in that span of time however, between the luo/fu and the pena/cony-- he does meet boot/hill. i'm aware his lore is also very unfinished, open, and much of his backstory is really just speculation. but i've got a bit of plotting going, and the two of them are in a bit of an in-between stage at the moment. making the two's meeting entirely possible and,, potentially beneficial to both? also, boot/hill is optimistic, and frankly quite unhinged. where as kuro tends to be nihilistic, and more mellow in comparison. it's a funny sort of interaction, very silly, i love it.

i do wonder if kuro's relationship or opinion of the IPC is also sour. though it's nothing compared to the xian/zhou, kuro's hands are not at all clean. and he's messed up at least one ( smaller ) planet in the past so, hm.

BIG potential for kuro to become a galaxy ranger as end game :)

what made you pick up the current muse(s) you have? Currently all of my muses such as Astarion, Dean & Bruce Wayne all have a personal connection to me in some way. Hence why they are so accurate. That sounds like bragging my bad. Anyway, they either draw on my life experience in connection that way or emotions. I love these characters so much. But tbh my Halsin account breaks the normal quota, and I’m testing him out.

is there anything you don’t like to write? The usual stuff, heavy topics. Personally, when I Roleplay Ascendant Astarion, while we do know his tendencies I have my own little twist so he doesn’t harm his lover. That’s a little detail ✨. I’m very flexible in terms of writing, but honestly just don’t be fucking weird?

is there anything you really enjoy writing? Angst, fluff, romance, action, adventure, sometimes smut, au’s i could go on.

how do you come up with headcanons? I make shit up and half the time it makes sense. Sometimes it comes to me in class or at work, or I just sit there and it writes itself out.

do you write in silence or do you play music? Both. Depends if I’m too lazy to turn on my Xbox to play music.

THG. I’ve been writing in it for ten years (RP before fic), and I much rather go into publishing before I move to any other fanfiction tbh.

4-What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

5-Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Absolutely! I try to, at least! Sometimes I get so excited about a comment that I’ll leave it in my inbox for a few days just to get excited again. Especially with my first fic that is very niche in this fandom, I get insanely happy about the fact that people are interested in it enough that they comment on it.

6-What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

This is hard, as I’ve only really written two works. Burning bright comes the closest, even if the final sentence is more a relief than anything, but it is mysterious throughout. Depending on who readers think the stranger outside is, the entire story can either be very angsty or not angsty at all.

7-What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

SSLWR is technically not finished as it has a second longfic coming up, but it ends on a very happy note. I’ve had THE urge™ throughout the fic and even while planning to kill Virgilia off as a repeated circle notion, but it’s breaking the circle that is so vital. Even if she has succeeded in finding out the truth about the past wife (a mystery from the first chapter onward!), educated herself about our past, and found actual love that exists/is not a fairytale, it’s still not a character journey over. If anything, characters—and on a meta level people—like her deserve a happy ending. Even if just to show that there’s the chance to do a 180, no matter the situation. (Doesn’t mean the horrors aren’t awaiting her though 😊)

8-Do you get hate on fics?

No, and I’m kinda? Surprised lol? Like maybe it’s just that niche that you’d only click on it if you are at least semi-interested, but with the heavy subject matter I had expected some people being very critical of the content—the whole debate what belongs and doesn’t belong in (fan)fiction.

9-Do you write smut? If so what kind?

Sort of? SSLWR included a smut scene in ‘Queenside’. It was very flowery, though. So, yes, but it’s not a very descriptive scene. I wanted to stay true to V’s character and focus more-so on the emotional inner thoughts and meaning of having this moment. That said, of course this isn't the last time they will do it, especially with the next longfic including more romantic couplings, but I don't see the purpose of writing them out. The before and after seems much more important, so if I end up wanting to write it again, it will be similar to the first moment in what it did and did not mention.

10-Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Not in fanfiction, but I’ve done a lot of AUs for Caesar and Virgilia in RP context. Caesar has really been in any kind of popular media from the past decade to roleplay with people’s characters there. He’s been a Tyrell in ASOIAF, and he’s been a former show host in TLOU-like verses. My most used one is a modern AU where he lives in NYC as a late night host. As for Virgilia, it’s been much fewer and I don’t really set her in other media anymore. But she has several modern verses, among those one where she grew up in a FLDS-like cult and escaped eventually.

14-What's your all-time favorite ship?

I don’t really do ships outside of the ones I have; which are Caesar/Cinna, Cressida/Fulvia, and Virgilia/Plutarch. I also have two ships with my rp partner, @beedelia. The first is Caesar/Bedelia Du Maurier from H.annibal, and the second is the sole victor I'm shipping Caesar with; a middle aged victor from 7 who lost his eyesight in the arena.

15-What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

I only have one more WIP planned and it’s going to take some time, but I have confidence in it being finished. I do have some loose ideas about writing some one shots that detail more on tertiary characters, such as Paylor, but it’s nothing more than an idea. Would be in the same style as Tigris' one shot, so it's more a "once I really start, I don't think it will be abandoned".

16-What are your writing strengths?

I think I’m a good character writer. It’s a given coming from RP, but I think I can breathe life into the characters I write, and give them good story arcs. With Virgilia especially, I’m always baffled that people say they like her character or liked her journey, so I’d say that’s working quite well for me writing wise.

17-What are your writing weaknesses?

That I take a long time and overthink everything. I want my first draft to be really good, so I cannot settle for okay. I rewrite sentence and am generally slow because I want what’s coming out on the blank screen to be good. It doesn’t help that—obviously—I’m no native speaker, so my sentence structure or vocabulary is never going to be the best; I feel like both are fairly repetitive. I do try to use Merriam Webster a lot to spice it up, but it can only help so much. I’m also not sure how I’m doing pacing wise. Coming from RP, I was used a lot more to, say, 200-500 word replies where I was writing short scenes with someone else. Pacing was never a question here. But I feel like I’ve improved on this ever since I started writing longer stories.

18-Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

It doesn’t happen in Panem, anyhow. As @bodyelectric77 has said, some headcanon that Spanish is spoken in District 4, but I don’t believe that the fascist government would want to keep any other language than English in its country, because it makes surveillance so much harder. But for a more general approach: I find it unnecessary. If the character doesn’t speak the language, then it’s essentially just a blank for them. Why should they know what the other is saying? If they do speak that language, then don’t build on the reader being able to speak it (or being bothered to look it up. Why do I need google translate for a fic, grr!). Just give me indirect dialogue then (“He said XYZ in Spanish”).

19-First fandom you wrote for?

Harry Potter back when I was 12 or so. Both in RP and fanfiction.

20-Favorite fic you've ever written?

She smelled like white roses. It’s my passion project. Though I’ve got a feeling that Birds of the Capitol (current WIP) is going to be my magnum opus in a way. Really encapsulating 10+ years of writing (RP/fanfiction) in this fandom. I’m excited, scared, nervous, thrilled. Everything.

✨ pilot and mate, the silver duo, for ship bingo ✨

Oh boy!

Silver Mate is Silver Pilot’s paired B-unit. He gets a brief mention in the letters, but for the uninitiated: Many of the E5s came in A-B pairs, one cab (A) unit and one cabless (B) unit that was just an engine, no crew compartment or driving cab.

E5-Bs were underpowered compared to their A counterparts and couldn’t really function without help. As you can imagine, when you have a set of engines like this– where one is entirely dependent on the other to work and drive and be Useful– you’ve got a dynamic that’s potentially very interesting!

In the canon of the letter-verse (and it *is* different from ttte despite their similar premises), engine behavior is dictated by your Railway and the way they want to do business, but it’s also codified through continued production. The more of one type of engine that is made, the more your operators learn about how best to handle you. Pilot and Mate are starting behind the eight ball in that regard.

The E5s were the only Es that ever had booster units, and there were only 16 of them ever made. Of those, Pilot and Mate were among the earliest. Their only examples to follow were the single A-B pair that came before them, and those guys are their own stainless steel can of worms.

There is no manual on how to act with an engine that’s really only half an engine, and having no examples to follow means it's your responsibility to make that relationship up as you go along. Too, it has to be amicable enough that your Railway can rely on both of you to be Useful and not constantly be squabbling over the power imbalance inherent in the dynamic. It’s a tough situation to throw a pair of new engines into!

Being quite conflict-avoidant, Pilot’s solution was to just… Treat Mate like he would any other engine. If he’d been paired up with a more domineering B, this might have been a problem, but Mate just wasn’t that guy. When they worked together, they were more or less equals, and Mate liked that just fine. Other Es might have found this relationship strange or even kind of objectionable, but it worked for them.

Mate was a good match for Pilot in that– while Pilot could be something of a doormat the way conflict-avoidant people sometimes are– Mate did not put up with any shit. If you were acting out on his train, he would not hesitate to set you to rights. If he’d treated Mate like just another piece of stock, the cars wouldn’t have listened to him, and that would have eliminated the other benefit of having a B-unit: An engine that watches your back when you need to keep your focus on the tracks.

So suffice to say, they were very close! Pilot was (and still is) a serial complimenter and was not shy about saying nice things to and about his best friend, a position Mate occupied by being hard-working because of the freedom that trust afforded him. Mate played his cards a little closer to the chest, but it would have been obvious to anyone who saw them working together that Mate was quite fond of his A and admired him a lot.

That said… I know you sent me this because what you actually want from me is my bonkers-insane humanized headcanon shipping. And, like Pilot, I can’t stand the thought of disappointing anyone.

Pilot loves Mate. Of course he does. They’re best friends, they get along like a house on fire, and  they already do everything else together. “It could be so easy,” Pilot thinks. “We could just keep doing this, but more!”

But Mate’s not so easily satisfied. He has it rough, to be fair. For as much freedom as Pilot gives him, no one mistakes who’s the A and who’s the B when they see them together, and other engines aren’t interested in hooking up with the backup unit. It’s annoying when your best friend is facilitating your work life *and* your hookups. So he made it clear to Pilot that there had to be a separation, thin as it was, and Pilot respected that. It was the one thing Mate had control over, so he took it all the way to the smelters.

But wrecked cars have been rebuilt before. Who’s to say engines couldn’t be as well?

In a scenario where the museum opts to rebuild their star attraction a replica B-unit, and miraculously that rebuilt B comes back whole, with all his memories intact… Maybe Newbuild Mate feels a little differently about it now. After all, Pilot’s the reason he’s here. And it turns out Pilot hasn’t really changed that much at all in the intervening 50 years. He’s still this handsome, funny, sweet guy who loved Mate so much and so hard that he brought him back from the dead. A guy could fall in love with an engine like that. And now they’ve got all the time in the world to do it. It’s perfect! Except–

Except Pilot’s got a real boyfriend now. Pilot, the lucky bastard, managed to land himself The Pioneer Zephyr, and it turns out they’re perfect for each other. Fucking hell, Mate thinks. How am I supposed to compete with that? There’s no way… right?

Well. Engines pull consists in all kinds of configurations, and Pioneer knows these guys have history. And when he gets to know him better, Pioneer finds that learning about Mate is essential to understanding the things he likes about Pilot. So Pioneer suggests that it doesn’t have to be one or the other, that Mate’s more than welcome to join them, both of them.

Basically: Everyone gets two boyfriends! :D

i. character focused, not ship focused. whether or not i ship a thing is largely based on if i feel our writing and characters click. i am multship and do not practice exclusivity on my blogs.

verses.

golden dreams. golden kingdom. set in the golden kingdom. a high-fantasy drama where i run wild with my headcanons. zoisite is madly in love with kunzite but is repressing it.

in the dark of the night. dark kingdom. 90s anime timeline.

the moonlight carries the mesasge of love. revival. after galaxia has been dealt with and metallia has been quelled, the reborn shitennou finally awake to their true power - their curses finally broken. marion, the reborn zoisite, makes his way from russia to japan and there - has to figure out how to make amends to the price he twice betrayed, and the guardians he tried to kill.

fragmentary abyss. honkai. one of diamond's four 'assistants', known for both his beauty and exceptional ruthlessness. zoisite has only ever known life in the ipc, and while he bears a stone name (and stone fragments) he is not considered to be a stoneheart.

all four of diamond's assistants are vidyadhara... though were may be the better tense. while all four were once high elders this is a title they can no longer hold. and the vidyadhara do not claim them as kin.

you see, these four were thought lost after the vidyadhara had to flee their homeland. their pearls were shattered, though it is difficult to know if this shattering occurred upon their deaths or if they were stolen and shattered in the attempt. there is no one left alive who can tell the true tale, and the men themselves hold but vague concepts of who and what they once were.

in time these fragments appeared on the black market, before finally falling into the hands of the IPC. they were pieced back together using fragments of cornerstones. they are not recognized by the vidyadhara as the same beings they once were and are viewed as abominations - the breathing equivalent of zombies. though they have access to many of the abilities now lost (shapeshifting, full dragon transformation, mastery of elements) they are unable to use cloud hymn magic and it is unknown if their mangled pearls will allow them to revive should they die again.

the sun goes out. genshin. in a past life, "zoisite" was the szhneznaya god dazhbog, who was said to rule over fire and the sun. dazhbog took many forms - a black tortise, a fire-breathing horse, a beautiful man and an equally beautiful woman. all imagery associated with this god has been lost to time, save for the descendants of his most devoted and the entities long-lived enough to remember his quick wit and sharp smile.

during the archon war, dazhbog aided the cryo archon and gained a new dominion - war. the god was known as a fierce combatant, unrelenting and unwilling to call defeat. he achieved victory at any cost - and, as he would go on to tell others, that cost was very nearly his soul itself. when the dust settled his kingdom was decimated, and he had lost the will to rule as a god after witnessing the cruelty that his kind inflicted upon their own. dazhbog left this homeland and ventured to khanri'ah with his three closest friends, believing that the time of gods was done and it was time to entrust the future of the world to mankind. the four of them took human form and worked as guardians to the royal family. they served as loyal guardians to the kingdom.

which... ultimately proved to be their downfall.

dazhbog became infected with forbidden knowledge. there was still enough of him to save, though what survived was but a fragment. dazhbog and his fellow gods faded from existence, 'reborn' centuries later as ostensibly human children. he was found abandoned at the foot of a the rubble of a long forgotten god, and was raised by handlers to be an assassin.

each reincarnated guardian bears the scars of what they had witnessed that day - for dazhbog, renamed zoisite, this manifested in his left eye. no longer did it bare the star-shaped pupils of his chosen human guise, it now looked like a nova. multiple pupils all within one gaze, the mark of one who had glimpsed truth not meant to be known.

zoisite was raised within the fatui, and due to his great talent and thirst for knwoledge, was sent on a mission as a spy (how active he is depends largely on who he's threading with) to sumeru where has been living since he was about thirteen. he's a scholar in spantamad as is well on his way to becoming sage.

he has a unique talent for magic, allowing him to use all elements offensively. it's rumored that his distorted eye (which he claims to be blind in, opting to cover it with his hair) grants him sight beyond sight. in truth, his abilities allow him to tug at the fabric of the reality.

a question of duty .final fantasy vii. a member of the turks, "zoisite" joined shinra with the intentions of becoming a SOLDIER as all young boys do. when this fell through, the young man was instead recruited by the turks.

hailing from cosmo canyon, zoisite has a surprising connection to the earth - if you trace his lineage back far enough, you'll find cetra. but not nearly enough to hear the planet's call. even if he could, the young man's thirst for power dwarfs his sense of duty to it.

years of experience?: about four years total at this point i think? took a couple year hiatus but got back in it after i graduated high school in '21.

fluff, angst, or smut?: definitely have a preference for angst between the three, although i have a dear love for fluff and whump as well. it's all about that cycle /lh. don't do smut really, implications is fine but i'm picky abt it tbh lol. either way, plot + prior discussion is key, especially w/ angst + heavier topics.

plots or memes?: memes, especially for the first few interactions. don't get me wrong, i love plotting but it's a little harder for me to do without some sort of 'baseline' to work off of.

long or short replies?: generally speaking, i tend to match length. short replies are fun for more laidback stuff, but overall i'm a long-ish reply girlie.

time to write?: late afternoon/evening/night. depends on when the muse kicks in but all my best ideas/thoughts tend to come once the sun goes down anyways. Sweet spot seems to be 0000-0300.

are you like your muse(s)?: in some ways? i have a tendency to put small pieces of myself and my experiences into each of my muses to varying degrees, but at the same time there's been an odd case or two of my life reflecting some previously-established character detail i've come up with for someone. when it comes to my canon muses elsewhere, i tend to go for the ones i can see parts of myself in somehow.

Oh hell. Let me see if I can remember all of them Stucky, Wnterhawk, Frosthawk [which I have accepted will never happen but I can dream dammit], Loki/Sigyn [HE LOVES HIS WIFE], Jaydick[any flavor; platonic or romantic], Dick/Babs, Dick/Roy, Remy/Rogue, Hyuroi, Hughes/Gracia[this man loves his wife okay], and the others either don't have an OTP because I haven't found one I like or they're OCs whose partner is another OC and therefore kinda pointless to list here XD

What are you willing to RP when it comes to shipping?

I'll try anything once. I'm a sucker for soulmate AUs, I'm great with deep platonic bonds -points at both Jaydick and Stucky-, gimme the romance, gimme FWB, just...-grabby hands- ship ALL THE THINGS Haven't ever really dabbled in toxic or hateships, but I would not be opposed to this with the right pairing and partner, either.

How large does the age gap have to be to make it uncomfortable?

This depends entirely on the relative ages involved, since I have two muses on here that are both over 2000 years old and at that point worrying about age gaps is really kinda pointless. That being said, I will not ship anything beyond purely romantic with muses below the age of 18 as a general rule, and that only because I have two muses with minor-aged verses [Dick and Conrad].

Are you selective when shipping?

To an extent; I ship chemistry above all, so there's no guarantee that - as an example - my Bucky is gonna be solidly romantically attracted to any given portrayal of Steve, or that I the writer am gonna click with the writer of any given Steve out there. Chemistry does not just mean chemistry of the characters; if our styles clash or we don't really mesh well then shipping's probably not gonna happen.

How far do steamy moments have to go before they’re considered NSFW? 

I tend to be very lenient here, but in general once the bits below the belt start getting named and/or there is full nudity I start tagging. Unless my partner starts tagging and/or readmore-ing first, in which case I follow my partner's lead and do the same.

100% I have only ever considered limiting ships once and that was because the character involved had just been so built around his ship partner that playing him off anyone else was just weird. That is the exception to the rule here.

Uh. -looks at current DC obsession- do I have to just pick one? Probably Jaydick, but in all its permutations. It scratches that delightful Stucky itch of 'can be just very deeply platonic but also so goddamn romantic under the right circumstances' and I kinda love it. But also I've a softspot for Batcat when they're written right.
