The job hunt continues but I'm already feeling burnt out.
I began in March, panic-applying to jobs and getting anxious over the lack of response. So I hired a career coach in April to help me with my resume and give me tips on how I should refine my search. Some of her tips helped me target jobs that match my skills better and I was starting to see some response. Then comes the interview process, which involved multiple rounds of interviews and an overwhelming amount of assignments.
One of the assignments was so extensive that I was starting to feel exploited. I had to put together a full content proposal for three different content types with multiple variations for each, complete with justifications.
At another interview, I find myself spending a whole hour sharing ideas after ideas after ideas only to be told at the end that I might not be able to adjust to the "intensive" work environment considering how long I've worked. It didn't occur to me that being in your mid-thirties was old. And looking at the scant output of the company, it befuddles me what intensive even means. Intensively poor resource management, perhaps?
Alas, the job search drains me of my energy. These interviews feel like auditions for a movie role where you dive into the character of the potential job and adjust your thinking to align with the person you're supposed to be if hired. After all that effort, they leave you waiting and hanging. Then you realize, perhaps they weren't urgently looking for someone and would rather wait until they find the perfect person. But in the meantime, they couldn't decide whether to reject me or not because what if there's nobody else?
The unfortunate thing about the time they are wasting is that I have responsibilities and bills to pay that don't wait for me to be hired.
