“And as easy as that, whatever soap bubble Veronica and I had been in just burst. Tomorrow at school, things would be different. We’d no longer be the Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller of Riverdale High.”

the funniest part of the whole "jughead commissions a ten foot tall statue of archie shirtless" thing isn't even that jughead did that in the first place, it's that he was trying to get that statue put up in a public park and was devastated when that didn't happen

jughead almost immediately removing himself from the musical aka the narrative the moment that someone else (kevin & clay) starts writing their own version of it and in turn, his removal from controlling the narrative ends up allowing the characters to take back control of their own narrative because when jughead writes and rewrites the story, it ends up trapping the characters deeper inside the narrative and the cycles they are desperate to escape until they are repeating the same behaviours over and over again but when kevin & clay write and rewrite the story, it ends up giving the characters back their agency because they're trying to help them which then allows them to break free from the narrative and walk away.
#riverdale#riverdale spoilers#rvd text#rvd meta#rvd narrative#jughead jones#kevin keller#clay walker#like i love jughead this isn't anti-jug or anything just to be clear but the show has imo perfectly established how traumatised jughead#really is and that he never actually deals with any of it and then this season you go from his comic episode whereby it demonstrates so#clearly that despite good intentions his anger heavily influences his writing and storytelling and then the next episode he acknowledges#that his father abandoned him and writes about it. we don't know what he wrote exactly but he wrote something and it slowly starts to#change him for the better#and the story really does start to slowly change from that point too#and even clothing wise. someone pointed out that jughead's clothes (pjs especially) drastically changed the moment he wrote about fp#what that means i have no idea but you can't not notice it#and when you look at the musical episode especially kevin and clay had an idea in mind for it - a narrative they were trying to push#but then saw what it was doing to the characters and were prepared to take a step back and listen to them and what they want#and change the story accordingly and while it ended with the majority of them leaving the musical#they left because they were given the freedom and choice to do it because they weren't being forced into a role someone else assigned them#like that's the point: THEY COULD LEAVE!#THEY MADE THEIR OWN CHOICES!#THIS IS STORYTELLING!!!#and i won't hear anything bad against it

After Jughead turned down Archie's offer to have gay sex in the quad Archie tells Betty this reticence towards gay sex is exactly why he's an award winning poet and Betty's already published a book but Jughead's comic books can't get published

Archie 😔😭🥲
You know. ... Having given thought to the Archie-Hiram dynamic and seeing all the analysis and lore around Archie by the Archie Fandom Proper (I'm Jughead Fandom, tbh) I understand your feeling. I do. Part of why I resist it, by the way, is because Jughead is so consistently hysterical about him until Season 7. You know how a lot of S7 was the show curing or trying to cure the badness of the past? (Like say, not giving Archie Grundy the predator, and instead casting her as a not pedophile teacher who knows how to enforce boundaries that protect the child). The Archie obsession fading away for Jughead in S7 is, to me, the show saying the Archie obsession was actually bad for Jughead, as well as Archie. Oops I've brought it around to Jughead but - the obsession/adoration/worship (and the attendant rage/ disappointment/pressure) that Jughead had for Archie hurt both of them.

More from those 2014 Archie comics.
Archie started sometime in the 40s, right? They juuuuust missed my favorite eras: the 30s, for their cartoons, and the roaring 20s, for their basically everything. I wish the Archie gang had been around in the 20s. (Just imagine the outfits, for starters.)
So it feels like this 2014 comic book is specifically targeted towards me, because they have TWO SEPARATE COMICS about swing dancing!
Just one would be crazy awesome to me. Two is kind of unbelievable.

That’s it, that’s the whole post. I really really like that they made two whole comics about swing dancing, and I’m sharing my excitement with the few people who will see this post.

thinking about archie comics and specifically ethel muggs, and how this character was originally designed to be incredibly ugly and unlikeable by making her tall and strong and sexually forward and giving her a gap in her teeth and short frizzy hair and a flat chest...
until eventually decades later the writers were like "actually this kicks ass" and now she's just a sweet and fun and canonically desirable girl with all those traits.

Riverdale season 7 should have been about Tabitha going through different timelines, maybe with Jughead as her assistant (very Jughead’s Time Police), as she tries to untangle things, and as she does, she takes everyone with her through various decades of Archie Comics, not just the 50s

Rewatching the final episode now recognizing that the Jughead walking along side Betty in the finale is writer!Jughead, who just wants to make sure Betty is happy and fulfilled with the ending that he wrote for her... Sorry to everyone who was frustrated with the finale centering around Betty, but RAS wrote that episode framing just for me.

Archie Andrews and Jeff Winger are two sides of the same fucked up little coin and I know that sounds insane but hear me out!
They both start out falling, pretty much at first sight, for women who they know little to nothing about - they just think these girls are attractive and that’s about it.
However they both get to know these women and form a real bond and deep relationship with them over time
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But they eventually grow bored of these women and instead move their attentions towards the romanticised version of their female friend that lives in their heads. These friends for a long time pined after both of them and framed themselves as “the one who was right in front of you all along”.
However these women were more in love with the idea of them than actually being with them and to Archie and Jeff these women represent their fear of the future more than anything else.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And in Archie and Jeff’s fantasy versions of their lives - which we see for Archie in S6 Ep19 and for Jeff in S6 Ep13 - they’re with their romanticised versions of these women, living out a white-picket-fence lifestyle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However this life isn’t something either of these women want. Maybe they did once but they don’t anymore, they’ve grown and changed and they want more from their lives, and they haven’t shown any actual wish to live this life for a long time.
But it isn’t just their relationships with their love interests that make these characters similar - it’s their relationships to their friends in general.
What’s probably a more important part of both of their fantasies is the fact that they’re with their friends, forever - in Archie’s we know that Veronica and Reggie (and we can guess the rest of his friends) all live on the same street as him. In Jeff’s we see him and all of his friends as teachers at Greendale, no matter if that’s what their friends want that or not. Veronica and Reggie don’t want to be in Riverdale forever, they can’t wait to get out. Annie and Abed don’t want to stay at Greendale anymore, they’ve grown and are ready to move away and get on with their own lives.
But they have different reasons for the ways they act and why they want these things - it’s Jeff’s brains that leads to him being manipulative and careless whereas with Archie it’s…look I love the guy but he’s not exactly the brightest bulb in the box. Archie is inherently a selfless and giving person but his naivety is his downfall in so many situations.
However Archie is still a likeable character, much more traditionally likeable than Jeff, because when he does something stupid you can’t stay mad at him for too long cause you know he doesn’t really mean it - Archie is the “likeable leading man” that Abed talks about in S2 Ep1, which is something Jeff can’t ever be.
