Because my kids are home from school, the only time I have to write is before they get up, from around 5:30 to 7am (So. Much. Coffee.). Most days my five year joins me in the basement, her watching Netflix while I try to pump out a few more paragraphs before I start my real, adult day.
Today she sat next to me and offered to draw some pictures for my “book,” and that means you all get to see what she did.
So I present to you, the cover art for The Last Angel:
She wanted to make sure I thanked her for her contributions.
So Thank you, Aida. You make me so happy every day.

There’s a huge old oak tree in my neighborhood, and one evening this summer, C. and I saw it with the moon behind it and the sky all dusk-blue. It was so beautiful that C. said: “Mom! We should make a collaborative painting of it!” So we did, and this is the result.

Amazing painting by Keke, a young student from Progression Society Art School in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
I'm helping to raise funds to help re-establish Rony Elistene's school because the previous location was burned down in March of this year during extreme and chaotic acts of gang violence which were and still are happening in the city centre.
We raised enough funds so far to help pay for 1 full year of rent at a new location away from the city centre where it is more calm and safe. We still need to raise more funds to replace all destroyed and stolen supplies : tables, chairs, paints, brushes etc and would like to raise enough money to be able to redistribute funds to the students and their families. Over 500,000 people in Haiti have been internally displaced due to the violence. Schools are closed, people don't have enough to eat and hospitals are also not safe.
This is but one small school in Port-au-Prince, but any donation will help these students directly. In calmer times Rony Elistene, the artist behind this school, helps facilitate sales of the Children's artworks and those funds go to the student and their family directly. Before the school was destroyed in March, this was a safe place for children to learn and enjoy painting in communion and the school distributed free meals too. We hope this incredibly needed space will begin anew very soon!
