do you have a particularly stand-out "oh i saw that as a gif" moment? bc i've recently been watching "Kabenari of the Iron Fortress" and finally found out where that gif of the buff lady taking off her vest to pull a very large steampunk train lever is from. I'm kinda salty so much of the show is glowing zombies flipping through the air when we could be focusing on the large train buttons and how tactile they are, but that's beside the point.

I could've told you Kabaneri was ass.

And to answer your question, I think I got into Monogatari of all things cause of random gifs.

so i read the prologue for the thtnw's sequel and i loved it so much, you truly never disappoint with your world building and plot set up. since in your previous work you mentioned you were inspired by dororo, kabenari of the iron fortress and journey to the west, i was wondering if you were inspired by anything for this part? i only recently finished watching dororo and i loved it so much, will probably start kabenari next!

I am also a huge fan of mythological stories so I'm really excited for what's to come next, but regarding that too, did you take inspiration from any mythological related media?

For the sword, the sea, and a dream yet to be fulfilled (man, I should stop making these titles so long), I had to go back to the classics! I read some passages from Nihon Shoki and Kojiki then binged documentaries about them. Can I just say tho that the legends based on Susanoo are some of my absolute faves ever cuz that guy is just wack lmao. He's not Sun Wukong type of crazy (pretty hard to beat that level of batshit insanity) but Susanoo-based myths are really entertaining!

I also took inspiration from Greek & Roman myths (Orpheus and Eurydice, through this fic I shall avenge you, my tragic pookies!!!), Dante's Divine Comedy (cuz their depiction of hell is my fave), and classic poetry (I have sticky notes of some of my fave stanzas from William Blake's The Marriage of Heaven and Hell and Songs of Innocence & of Experience on my fic outline).

I also read Shogun by James Clavell way back, like waaayyyy before I even started writing the heart that never withers, and I guess it kinda informed my own writing (especially the military/politics part). There's a Netflix series that came out recently based on the book! I haven't watched it yet but from the reviews I've been seeing it seems just as great! Maybe you can watch it sometime if you'd like :D

Wotakoi - cute romance, but they’re adults instead of high schoolers and also nerds

Zombie Land Saga - my first thought was scene kids, but I really hope it’s real zombies

Cowboy Bebop - cowboys, but space. there’s a bonsai garden. been described as a classic

Baki - people get beat up, and also there’s muscles. hulking buffness. everybody’s a beefcake.

Attack On Titan - big fleshy people eat little human people. little human people don’t like this for some reason

My advice to Zack Snyder.

My advice to Zack Snyder. 

First off I want to offer my condolences on the loss of his daughter, Autumn earlier this year. Chances are because of that he won't be directing any new movies for awhile. But my advice is that if and when he does return to directing, he should take a break from Comic Book Movies and try doing some Anime.  I feel like Snyder's style is better suited to adapting Anime into Live Action, he's clearly been influenced by Anime already.  I did a post on wanting LA versions of Anime to be Colorful, and Snyder I feel would do that, the muted coloring in Man of Steel was the result of Nolan's influence, Watchman shows he is great at directing vibrantly colored films. He got attached to a adapting Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead at some point, who knows if it's actually still in active production.  I think doing something with no SciFi or Fantasy aspect is not going to be Snyder's strong suit at all.  Either way as a former Libertarian-Capitalist and current Libertarian-Communist the last thing I want is more exposure for Rand's so called Libertarianism. I have enjoyed every Snyder film I've seen except Dawn of The Dead. And all things considered I greatly appreciate what he's done in establishing the new DC Universe.  But Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman better reflect where I want that universe to go moving forward.  And Justice League will finish Snyder's vision effectively being the third film of his Superman Trilogy. Snyder's approach of being visually experimental while also having a dark tone isn't what audiences expect from Comic Book Movies.  We're more used to Dark=Gritty and Realistic for those. Not every Anime would be ideal for Snyder, I feel like Nolan would be best for Noir, and Gundam by the same people handling Star Wars.  And I'd overall prefer Women be entrusted with Magical Girl adaptations.   However.... Madlax, Lupin III depending on which kind of Lupin Anime they're drawing on, Future Diary, Attack on Titan, Kabenari of the Iron Fortress, maybe Code Geass.  Are examples of Anime where if a Western Live Action version is ever green-lite, I think perhaps Snyder might be the best guy for the job.  I would also sorta add just about any Nasuverse story, including Canaan which may not actually count as Nasuverse.

Anime spotlight - Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress

Just finished an amazing must watch anime called Kabanari of the iron Fortress its like a mix of Attack on Titan, Sakura Wars and Train to Busan.For one this the animation is beautiful, rich, detailed and just plain gorgeous. It has great character designs and a feel of and look of characters from anims like Vampire Miyu. All the characters are interesting and get developed. The world is amazing and brutal and exciting and scary.

It is very action packed and exciting never calming for a moment it hits the groud running, its brutal and heart breaking with amazing fights and the corpses and intersting and frigthening. The action never lets up only to pause for the drama and weight of what is happening. There are internl struggles in this world not only with the threat f the corpses but struggles winthin characters and the political structure of the world.

I honestly don't know why this isn't being promoted and talked about as much as Titan was as its such a great anime and I hope to god they make more and it gets lots of recognition!!!
