In 1966, the Rolling Stones appeared in a documentary on '60s culture called What's on the Flipside. It features the band being interviewed by Australian DJ Ward Austin and then performing on stage. Mick Jagger is asked about his song "As Tears Go By" and he and Brian Jones joke about how camp they can get. Also look for a very cool Brian on harmonica and a very bored Charlie Watts picking his nails, lol. ;D I feel like this documentary really does capture the excitement of the times, especially all the groovy people dancing to Satisfaction, lol. From the DVD The Easybeats Easy Come, Easy Go.

Bleed It Away
I've seen this one coming for a long time, but have always preferred a generous detour around it.
Why? Maybe because I was never particularly interested in Lick It Up (1983) as a song nor did I even dislike it, but simply because until a while ago I didn't really care about it and it just didn't appeal to me.
Even though I don't feel that Lick It Up is a bad song, my mind can't determine with 100% certainty what made me always shy away from it. Was it the shrill vocals? The somewhat over-ambitious monotonism? The metallic staccatoesque gang chorus?
Paradoxically, these are all attributes that I look at from a different perspective today and therefore appreciate more. Just as I've always found the stylishly humble non-guitar solo and above all the live fill-in segments appealing, by which I don't mean this The Who thing (1), but the version that Kiss played, especially in the 80s up to the Revenge (1992) line-up (2).
But enough of the preface, because it's time for our obligatory look behind the scenes. And who do you think you'll bump into there? Well, a band that friends of Crazy Nights (1987) can sing a song about, even literally, namely Foreigner with their Hot Blooded from 1978, which shouldn't be too much of a novelty.
But that doesn't matter at all, as today we get two for the price of one, and the second of the backstage bunch would be none other than Black Sabbath in their blessed Dio days, ripped from the middle of their glorious Heaven and Hell (1980) phase, represented with Walk Away.
And right from the first guitar notes I think I can hear the chorus and somehow also the main riff from Lick It Up. Is there anyone here who doesn't, and if not, that person must be pretty deaf, even if Sabbath is moving in a completely different direction overall. Conversely, if you listen to Walk Away, you almost get the impression that Ronnie James Dio wants to intonate the vocal refrain every second.
But because everything here blends together like the infamous chocolate bar in your pocket aynway, let's go straight to Foreigner and their Hot Blooded (1978) and remind ourselves where Vinnie got his rhythmically stubborn and monosyllabic (3) main inspiration from when cobbling it all together. And not just him, but also Paul, who must have gotten the Lick It Up live addendum see above from Hot Blooded's main riff, or something like that.
Yes, I suppose it must have been something like that, somehow. I haven't got a clue, it all just sounds like that. And that already brings us one more time to the end.
I'm glad we've finally got this over with.
Side Notes:
(1) Namely Won't Get Fooled Again (1971). More on this and more sometime soon I guess in my upcoming live deviations section (I haven't got a damn clue what I'm going to call it yet).
(2) To find out what this has to do with Asylum (1985), Killers (1982) and even I Was Made For Lovin' You (1979), click right here.
(3) Looking at this then popular rhythm, it's almost like Pink Floyd's Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2 (1979) to Survivor's Eye of the Tiger (1982), from which a small echo even reached Kiss' Crazy Nights (1987).
Highlighted links should not be necessary here. Everything should be self-explanatory right from the start. Just lick it up, it's all there:

Characters: Alisaie Leveilleur, X'rhun Tia, Alphinaud Leveilleur, Estinien Wyrmblood, Varshahn, G'raha Tia, Krile Baldesion, Minfilia Warde, Thancred Waters, Urianger Augurelt, Tataru Taru, Lyse Hext Expansion: Endwalker Rating: G Notes: References to @driftward 's Zoissette Vauban
-Salmon Bagel-
You were never known for your culinary skills, but you feel you can manage what essentially is a sandwich. Carefully you cut the bagels, unevenly, then spread out cream cheese, adding more to the shallower parts of the bread. Next is the salmon, the crux of the meal. Your mentor is a Miqo’te, there’s no question he will love it. You pull the chunks out of a package, having had no interest in fishing them fresh from the river. You fold the layers onto the cream cheese evenly then cover them with the tops of their bagels, doing your best not to let the spread spill out over the edges. In the distance, you see the red of your mentor’s coat stand out, already hurrying over to enjoy your lunch.
-Fried Squid-
Three books are laid out before you, all with instructions on how to prepare the breading for the squid. You are unsure which recipe will satiate your older companion the most, but know well that he’ll appreciate the gesture. Making a decision, you began to whisk the eggs, letting your silver carbuncle lick whatever splashes to the floor at your feet. You heat the oil while you dip the squid into flour, the egg, and then cover it in breeding. Carefully, you impale each one on a stick then dip it into the oil, watching them bubble then start to brown evenly. Admiring your work, you set them aside to dry. You close your eyes a moment, imagining the praise you’ll receive from the Dragoon when he tries it.
-Also Fried Squid-
You hand over to the stall attendant in exchange for two sticks of fried squid, offering the second to your young Auri companion. You wouldn’t dare chance stepping behind a stove.
-Beef Jerky-
You had sliced the meat a day before and left it to marinate in a bowl of brown sugar, soy sauce, W’orcestershire Tia sauce, and several other common spices from their kitchen. This was a special treat, a taste of Gyr Abania, your husband’s home. Your tail twitches with excitement as you lay out the meat on a rack, careful not to disturb the foil underneath lest he cringe at the touch. Your heart swells with pride as you put them in the oven on low heat, knowing that the gesture will allow you both to have a little adventure and eat well too.
-Cheeseburger-
Your send your dear friend’s husband off for lunch with your own pocket money. Another letter has come and research will take you both into the wee hours of the night. You know he’s looking forward to an adventure with his love, but it will have to wait. Luckily he’s well known for being pacified through his appetite.
-Toast-
You sigh, throwing out another set. Now that you are home you thought you’d be able to practice some basic home skills...You’ve been through a loaf and a half now trying to brown each side of the slices. You soon give up.
-Pizza-
Feeding the Scions is never an easy task and you are no culinarian. Still, there are simple things you know how to do. Upon a stool you roll out the dough with a rolling pin, then roll out the red sauce evenly. You then shave mozzarella across the top of the pie. Next comes the toppings, spreading sausage chunks out evenly before little petite slices of pepperoni. Only half of the pizza you cover in peppers and onions, knowing well at least one of the twins will fuss about the greens and the Miqo’te the onions. Though the meal is larger than you, you gracefully hold the tray above your head and get it into the brick oven with ease. You send word to the others that dinner will soon be ready.
-Coffee Biscuits-
The girls sent you some from the first. You’re unsure if she would have liked them, but know she’d appreciate the gesture. You sit by the marker with her name on it, placing lilies at the base along with the small white bag with a light blue ribbon around the top to protect the cookies inside. You sit beside her, telling her of your adventures of wherever you’ve gotten to lately. You finish your snack, but don’t leave immediately…parting is always the hardest part.
-Archon Loaf-
You doth consider the endeavor briefly, but only briefly.
-Chamomile Tea-
You find two saucers and the cups that match with patterns whose beauty is understated just like your dear friend who you are attending to. Your ear twitches, just a little as you hear the kettle your mentor had gifted you upon your ascension to Archon prepare to whistle. You remove it from the heat with your tail as you open the jar of tea sachets you set aside just for her visits, placing one in each cup. Soon, you fill each cup equally with warm water, letting them steep until the water is a light amber and the aroma wafts up with the steam. You set a sprig of lavender in each one before picking them up to serve, hand channeling the aetheric heat from your loved one’s, knowing the exact temperature she likes.

The Saint: Legacy for the Saint (6.3, ITC, 1968)
"What is this, a séance?"
"Ed left very strict instructions about the reading of his will."
"Oh, he knew he was going to die?"
"We all know that, don't we?"
"Yes. Some sooner than others."
#the saint#legacy for the saint#1968#itc#leslie charteris#michael winder#roy ward baker#roger moore#stephanie beacham#ivor dean#alan macnaughtan#t. p. mckenna#reginald marsh#kenneth farrington#edward brayshaw#bruce boa#brian coburn#sheila keith#edward kelsey#oh now this is curious... I've said previously that i suspected the first couple of eps from season 6 were held over from the season 5#production block; i hadn't quite noticed‚ but network certainly group them separately. but here we are ep 3 and we suddenly have a new#arrangement of the theme tune (in fact nearly an entirely new theme it's so different). but those eps were definitely shown on uk screens#as 1 and 2 of season 6.. i suppose the answer could be that network are using US prints where the seasons were differently divided#so was this theme only used in the us? or was it new for s6 and the others didnt use it bc they were held over? but that doesnt really make#sense bc the titles themselves look the same so it would take little effort to lay the new audio over those eps. who knows?! not me! maybe#Pixley does... (wills him to write a book). anyway. this is a very fun one. feels indebted to the film Charade‚ with its dead gangster and#rogues gallery of rivals turning up to the funeral. baby Beacham is very sweet tho i must deplore a musical sting which accompanies her#intro which is clearly meant to denote 'sexy' despite the episode firmly establishing she's young enough to be some kind of school senior#Teal is once again being made to look quite the fool‚ and wonderful TP McKenna is his usual great value as the most brainful of the crooks#oh also after a slightly grotty looking ep 1 and 2 the picture quality does seem to have returned to form from this one
