i don’t care
you were getting a few books from the library to read over the summer, then you felt your head get jerked back by your hair.
"ow..who-" you started before you looked up. it was kyle. "oh, hii! what’re you doing at the library?" you giggled, ignoring the fact he had a firm grip on your hair, and the fact it was starting to hurt.
kyle had an angry look on his face. the kind of look you got when you did something he didn’t like. "what? did i do something?"
"yeah, actually, you did. the fuck were you doing all touchy feely with kenny yesterday, huh?" he barked, tugging your head back more. you squeaked in pain. "he just needed my help..he said, 'if you ever give a boy a.." you trailed off, thinking of what he called it, "..a boner….you should always help'. then he taught me what to do, that’s all. i just wanted t’be nice," you mumbled, giving kyle a pitiful look with your puppy eyes.
kyle mentally cursed himself. "fuckin' bastard..look, if anybody other than me tells you that, you tell them: 'kyle said i can’t do that', you hear me?" he ordered, putting a finger in your face.
you smiled and nodded. kyle let go of your hair and you turned to him, holding up a book. "do you want a book, ky? we could read together over break," you asked, giving him your signature sweet smile.
"no. i don’t do any of that reading shit. come with me." kyle grabbed your hand and led you to the back of the library towards the restrooms. he opened the bathroom door labeled for both men and women. luckily, it was just a one person, so he could lock the door without any suspicion.
"what are we doing? i wanna read my books," you pouted when kyle shoved you into the door. "i don’t care. you did something i didn’t like, and you need to be punished so you can learn."
"but i didn’t know!" you whined. then you felt a sharp sting on your cheek. kyle slapped you. "i said, i don’t care. take it or i won’t talk to you for a week."
kyle knew how to get you all upset and vulnerable. not like you weren’t vulnerable, you were just always very naive, eager to please anyone.
you lived and breathed kyle. if he wouldn’t use you, then who else would? if you weren’t good for him, how could you be good for kenny, or anyone for that matter?
"okay, i’m sorry. can i have a kiss? on the cheek? you hurt me."
god, had you ever been punished a day in your life?
"no. this is a punishment, you’re not gonna get what you want," he answered. you sighed in defeat. "now, you’re gonna show me what kenny taught you, alright?"
"alright..i need you to sit, though," you explained, pointing to the toilet.
kyle stepped over to the toilet, sitting down and manspreading. you situated yourself on your knees between his legs.
looked at him expectingly, but he looked at you like you were stupid. "well, go on."
you started to tug down his basketball shorts, then neatly placed them on the floor.
"he said to do this first.." you started palming him through his boxers. "oh, god dammit-" kyle said quickly, tossing his head back.
"mm..i don’t remember everything he said, so i might not do that well. m'sorry," you told him, not looking at him. you kissed his bulge then took off his boxers. kyle sighed and looked down at you, your face innocent and oblivious to what you were really doing.
"no..no, it’s okay. you’re doing good," he reassured. you took kyle in your small hand, your thumb moving over his tip.
as much as kyle hated admitting it, kenny taught you well. then again, he was a chick magnet. fucked a girl at least every night. of course he knew his shit.
you started moving your hand up and down a little slow. your hand was soft, you felt perfect. kyle could cum right then and there.
you were going so slow. "go faster," kyle demanded. "but this is what-" kyle cut you off, "i don’t give a shit. go faster."
you barely even sped up. you were starting to piss him off. "god, dumb bitch," kyle muttered to himself before grabbing you by the hair and shoving his cock in your mouth.
you cried. "shut up!" kyle whispered, "shut up and fuckin' take it, bitch."
you choked and sputtered as kyle fucked up into your mouth. you felt that weird feeling down there that you get when you do this kind of stuff with kyle. maybe he’d 'take care of you', as he put it.
"god, i fuckin' love your mouth, baby. you always take me so well." kyle grabbed a fist full of your hair and shoved your face all the way down till your nose touched his tummy.
"motherfucker," he grunted out, raising you back up a bit. he could hear you struggling, but he felt too good to care.
you forced yourself up off him and said, "ky- gotta breathe, can’t breathe." kyle rolled his eyes while you caught your breath, then when he decided you were finished, he shoved you right back down.
"m'gonna cum in your mouth, 'kay? be good and take it. keep goin'" kyle told you. you nodded on his cock. kyle pressed his foot on your clothed cunt, and when you moaned around him, release washed over him.
"god- shit- motherfucker!"
you felt that familiar salty taste spurt down your throat. thick and warm.
kyle pulled you off him, leaning his head back and panting. then there was a knock on the door.
"(y/n)? you haven’t checked out your books yet, honey."
it was the librarian. the two of you were super close. you were a little book worm, so you were always in the library with her, creating everlasting friendship.
"yes! i’ll be right out, promise!" you replied to her, standing up and hurrying to the mirror, smoothing down your hair so it didn’t look like you were just manhandled.
"okay, dear. i’ll be at my desk," she said, then you heard her footsteps deafen.
"that was a close one, huh?" kyle said, already dressed again. "aren’t you gonna take care of me? i got that weird feeling again," you asked kyle. he laughed.
"are you stupid? that was a punishment. gosh, man, you don’t listen. i told you: you aren’t gonna get what you want," kyle explained. again.
"now let’s go check out your stupid books."

The Red Name pt 6/7
part one || part two || part three || part four || part five
“Have you considered talking to them? Either of them?” Alex sighed.
“Oh gee, why didn’t I think of that?” Kyle snarked on the other end of the phone. “Yes, I’ve considered it but I have no idea what I would even say!”
“How about ‘I liked having sex with both of you let’s keep doing that’?”
Kyle groaned. “I can’t just say that.”
Alex frowned. “And why not? Seems the simplest solution.”
“Mhmm and what exactly is your experience with effective communication in a relationship?”
“Utter shit,” Alex replied easily. “Which is why I am telling you to learn from my mistakes.”
“Alex,” Kyle said, suddenly serious. Alex straightened his back in response. “Am I seriously going to be the old cliche of a homophobic bully turns out to not be straight? Because I don’t want to be a cliche.”
Alex snorted as the tension left him. “Yeah well, suck it up Valenti. We don’t always get what we want.”
“Why can’t it be easy?” Kyle bemoaned.
“Because it’s worth fighting for,” Alex replied absently, his eyes caught on a taxi pulling up outside. A tall man in a loose flannel shirt and a cowboy hat stepped out with a beagle in tow.
“Hey Alex?”
“Yeah?”
“How long have you been home? I called you but I wasn’t really expecting an answer…”
Alex closed his eyes briefly. “Got home a week ago. Had to report straight to Andrews,” he lied. “It’s been really busy, I was going to let you know I was back once I got settled.”
“Were you?”
“Of course I was!” There was a knock at the door and Alex’s heart sped up. He was on his feet and halfway to the door before he knew it.
“Ok, fine, you were. It’s just- it’s really good to hear your voice, man,” Kyle told him sincerely. Alex stopped with his hand on the doorknob. He could hear Buffy’s barks already. “Send me your new address, okay? We can send you a welcome home package?”
Alex opened the door. “Yeah, is that package gonna be any of you showing up on my doorstep?” He met Michael’s eyes and his heart stopped for a second. Dammit, he looked good. Buffy jumped up on his legs and Alex reached a hand down to pet her but he didn’t look away from Michael for a second.
“Maybe,” Kyle laughed in his ear.
“Well, then sorry, but you don’t get my address. I don’t really want any visitors.” Michael quirked an eyebrow. A slow grin made its way across his lips. “Look Kyle,” he cut off Kyle’s objections. “I have to go, okay? Go talk to Max and Liz.”
“Tell him to shut up and sleep with them again,” Michael whispered.
Alex shook his head slowly. “Make sure you actually talk to them before ending up back in bed,” he said instead. Michael met his gaze and nodded once, understanding that that was for him as much as it was for Kyle. As he finished making his goodbyes, Alex stepped back to allow Michael and Buffy to enter.
“Hey girl,” he cooed as soon as Kyle hung up. His phone ended up somewhere but he wasn’t entirely sure where. He’d care about it later. Buffy licked his face in greeting. “I missed you.”
When Buffy finally had enough kisses, she slipped out of his grasp to explore her new home. He’d left about half of her things in Roswell but the rest was already unpacked here. He watched her explore with a smile on his face. It was good she was here, made the tiny apartment feel like home.
“Hey,” Michael said softly. He reached down a hand to help Alex off the floor and he took it gratefully. Michael hauled him to his feet but didn’t move away so they ended up nearly chest to chest. His hand came up and traced his hairline from his forehead down around the tip of his ear. Alex could barely suppress the shudders that came with it. “You cut your hair,” Michael observed.
“It wasn’t regulation before,” Alex replied quietly. The air felt thick between them.
“Fuck,” Michael whispered. He used the hand already on Alex’s head to pull him into a hug, Alex’s face pressed into his neck as he buried his own face in Alex’s shirt. “You’re okay.”
“I’m okay,” Alex promised. There had been a few close calls, a few cuts and bruises, but he’d come home with the same number of injuries he’d shipped out with so he called it a win. Slowly, he started to pull away. “I got your emails.” He hadn’t been able to send any but he had received communication just fine while he was overseas.
Michael tensed slightly and stepped back. Their hands fell away from each other slowly, fingers caressing every last bit they could touch. “I read all of yours,” he admitted.
Alex looked away. He didn’t remember everything that he’d written but he definitely remembered that he hadn’t intended Michael to ever read them. Not really. “I don’t even know why I sent them to you,” he confessed.
“I’m glad you did.”
“Really?” Alex arched an eyebrow. “I’m pretty sure I told you go fuck yourself a couple of times.”
“You did,” Michael agreed. “But you were right and I needed to hear it. Or read it, I guess. There were a lot of things I needed to hear.”
Alex looked away and that’s when he realized they were still standing in the entryway. “Come on,” he muttered. Michael grabbed his arm as he tried to get past him.
“I thought we were going to talk?” He looked scared, like Alex was going to walk away right now.
“We are,” Alex promised, “but I’d rather we weren’t standing by the front door while we do it.” He nodded towards the living room. “The couch is more comfortable.”
Michael looked around them like he’d just realized where they were too. A pretty pink blush filled his cheeks. “Yeah okay.” He let Alex pass. “Coffee?” Michael headed straight for the kitchen. Alex watched in amazement as he found the coffee mugs, the k-cups, and the sugar without asking.
“How did you-?”
Michael looked up at him then down at the coffee materials. He shrugged. “It’s the same as at the cabin.”
“You really did move in, huh?”
Michael flushed. “I can move out if you want me to.”
“Did I say that?”
“No,” he looked up. “You didn’t.”
“Don’t put words in my mouth, Guerin,” Alex warned. He meant it more for their next conversation and from the look in Michael’s eyes, he understood that.
Michael nodded. “I won’t. I promise.” He stirred in the sugar and grabbed the creamer from the fridge. Alex watched him add it and was still somehow surprised when Michael handed his coffee to him and it was perfect.
“Thank you.”
Michael waved him off and sat down. Buffy jumped up on his lap a moment later. He happily accepted her kisses until Alex sat down and she came over to curl up with him. Alex pet her with one hand while he sipped his coffee with the other.
“So,” Michael started. “Where were we?”
“Uh I think you were saying I needed to tell you to fuck off?” Michael gave him a look and Alex gave him a smile.
“I think we were talking about the emails,” Michael said.
“Right. Those.” All of a sudden, Alex didn’t want to talk about this. He’d written the emails when he couldn’t talk to Michael and he’d sent them when he’d thought he’d never have to see Michael again. Talking about them was never in his game plan. “Here’s a thought: what if we didn’t talk about it?”
Michael reared back in surprise. “What? You just said we need to talk.”
“Yeah and we do. But I don’t want to talk about the emails.”
“Alex-”
“The whole point of them was that they did the talking for us right? So we don’t have to talk about us talking to each other?” He rubbed his forehead. “We can-”
“Why’d you lie to me?”
Alex looked up. “About what?”
“After we got Max back, you came out to the scrapyard to yell at me to get my shit together and I asked you-” He shook his head. “I asked you if that was how you treated someone you loved and you said ‘no’. That you treated the people you loved better than that.” He met Alex’s eyes and held it. “Why’d you say you didn’t love me?”
Alex held the gaze as long as possible before he had to look away. Buffy rolled over in his lap so he looked down at her and rubbed her belly. “I never said I didn’t love you.”
“Heavily implied, then.”
“I don’t know,” he admitted. “I was angry that day and you were drunk and being an asshole and I just- I yelled. And then it was out there and I couldn’t take it back but I didn’t think you’d remember it anyway.”
“I remembered.”
“I can see that.” Alex shook his head. “You said it yourself, though, it wouldn’t have changed anything. You still would have started a relationship with Maria. You still would’ve moved on.”
“I thought we weren’t talking about the emails?” Michael asked quietly.
“You started it,” Alex shot back wearily.
“I know,” he nodded. “And you’re right, I probably still would’ve been with Maria. For better or worse she was what I needed then. I needed someone who couldn’t hurt me. I needed someone that I couldn’t hurt in return.”
“But you did hurt her.”
“Not like I hurt you. She’s okay. She’s figuring out this thing with Isobel now and she’s okay.” Michael picked up his forgotten coffee mug and started tracing the rim of it with a finger. “My whole life I’ve had either one night stands and you. I’ve never had a relationship, not really. I thought I wanted one with you but we were in such a bad place it was impossible.”
Alex’s heart leapt into his throat. “Thought?”
“With Maria, it was easy. She didn’t judge me for my inexperience and she didn’t expect much from me. Not like you do. She and I stayed in Roswell and she knew who I was, who I am, and she didn’t expect more than that. But you, you have this image in your head of who I am, expectations of who I should be, and you walk away when I don’t meet them. It was nice not to disappoint her.” He took a sip. “So no, I wouldn’t have changed it. But I would like to think I would’ve done it differently. You weren’t wrong when you accused me of too much PDA. I wanted you to see it, see us. I wanted to show you that I was okay without your love.”
Alex hadn’t gotten an answer to his last question but he pushed it aside for now. “You could never disappoint me, Michael. Yeah I expect more from you but that’s only because I know what you can do.”
Michael shot him a look. “Yeah and when I fall short, you get disappointed. Like with the copper wire.”
Alex shook his head. “I never gave a shit about the copper wire.”
Michael scoffed. “You ended things over it.”
“That’s not-” he stopped. “My dad said some things that night.”
“Yeah, I know, I saw him.”
“He- he said some things and all I could think about was the last time he caught us together. After that, all I wanted to do was get you far away from me so he wouldn’t have a reason to hurt you again.”
“Since when are you scared of anything, Alex?”
Alex snorted. “I’m scared of a lot of things, Michael. Losing you, whether it’s to Project Shepherd or Maria or someone else or fucking outer space! I’m scared of trusting the wrong person and other people paying the price. Hell, I’m scared of going back to war. And I am fucking terrified of my father,” he confessed, struggling to keep his voice even. “I know he hurt you and I know you’ll never be able to get over the fact that I’m his son but he’s your battle. And he’s my war. I will be fighting against him my whole life. I’ll win some and I’ll lose some. And even after he’s gone I’ll still be fighting him because he’s in here,” he tapped his head. “And that’s not going away. So yeah, I pushed you away because I was scared of what he could do to you. And I am sorry about that but- I did the best I could, okay? I know it wasn’t great but it was the best I could do then.”
Michael didn’t respond right away. He let the silence linger long enough that Alex was starting to regret ever opening his mouth. “I never should have said you were like him. You’re not. You’re nothing like him and you’re nothing like your brothers.” He stopped and took a deep breath. “I think the worst thing I ever said to you was that you were responsible for my mother’s death.” Alex flinched at the reminder. He stared down at Buffy, unwilling to look at Michael. “I was drunk when I said it and I wanted to hurt you. And when I saw that it did, I said it again the next time I wanted to hurt someone.” He finished off his coffee quietly. “You always came back, Alex. And I took it for granted and I used you as a punching bag to let out everything I packed inside and I’m sorry. You didn’t deserve it. You deserve a hell of a lot better, really. I’m sorry I never treated you like you deserved.”
“You did,” Alex countered softly. He swirled the last of his coffee around. “Before.”
Before. Before Maria. Before Max and Noah. Before Caulfield. Before Alex came back to Roswell.
“You were amazing,” he added. “For ten years the only time I could let my guard down, let myself truly relax, was when I was with you. You made me feel safe. And loved.”
“Why’d you always leave?”
“Why didn’t you ever come with me?” Because he’d asked, multiple times. Especially after DADT was repealed and he didn’t have to hide.
“I couldn’t leave Roswell, couldn’t leave Max and Isobel.”
“I couldn’t stay there, not with my father in town.”
They fell silent, pondering the weight of those answers.
“Max and Isobel aren’t going to leave,” Alex acknowledged.
“Neither is your father,” try as they might to force him out. He may have been discharged from the military but he refused to leave Roswell.
“No,” Alex agreed.
“So where does that leave us?” Michael’s voice was barely a whisper.
“I don’t know, Michael. But does it even matter? Is it really geography that’s the problem? Or literally everything else?”
“I don’t know about literally everything else,” Michael tried.
“You say now that I’m not my family but you spent two years blaming me for everything they did. Did that suddenly change overnight? Am I supposed to believe you’re magically over it all of a sudden? You think I have unrealistic expectations for you, for us, and you’re afraid you’re only ever going to fall short. Is that going to change or will you be afraid of disappointing me no matter how often I tell you that’s not possible? Will I ever be able to get over you and Maria?” Alex sighed. “There’s so much, Michael.”
Michael clenched his jaw. “Why’d you send me your address?”
And there it was. The question Alex had been asking himself ever since he sent that email. Gently, he moved Buffy onto the couch next to him and stood up. Wordlessly, he collected their mugs and took them to the kitchen.
“Alex?” Michael leaned on the counter, having followed him over because god forbid he let Alex have the modicum of space he was trying for. “Why am I here?”
Alex placed the second mug in the dishwasher and closed it. “You came,” he accused.
“You asked me to,” Michael shot back.
“Why’d you send me those emails?” Alex let out a small, humorless laugh. “Why didn’t you just let it go? Let me go? Two years you spent pushing me away and when I finally go, when I finally say goodbye, you reach back out. Why?”
Michael leaned down and covered his head briefly before looking Alex straight in the eye. “Because you said goodbye. Because I had a taste of life without you and it was miserable and I hated it. Even when I was pushing you away you were always there and I counted on that more than I realized to keep myself sane. I sent you those emails because I couldn’t let that goodbye be it between us.” He laughed and the sun through the window caught his hair just right and suddenly Alex was three years in the past standing outside the Airstream hearing Michael tell him, “I never look away, Alex. Not really. I did, for a while, and it was a mistake.” Reality crashed back into him and Michael was two steps closer. “Let me fix it.”
God help him but Alex wanted. He wanted to say yes, he wanted to grab Michael and pull him close, he wanted to fix this, to fix them. “How?” He asked instead. “I live here now and you live in Roswell.”
“How long?” Michael asked. Alex tilted his head in question. “How long are you here for? You requested this transfer can you request to go back?”
“I can,” Alex admitted. Michael let out a relieved sigh. “But I’m not going to.”
“Alex-”
“I can’t be in Roswell anymore Michael. Between my dad and us, there’s just been too much that’s happened there and I can’t be there. Maybe one day down the road I can think about going back but it’s not going to be for a while.” He smiled sadly. “And you’re never going to leave.”
“What if I did?” Michael was another step closer. “What if I moved?”
“And leave Isobel and Max behind? And Liz and Rosa and Maria?” Alex shook his head. “We both know that’s not going to happen.”
“Alex-” There was barely a step between them now.
“Michael, we have so many issues to work through if we ever want this to be real and we can’t do that from opposite sides of the country.”
“So what? We do nothing? We just- let this go? Let each other go?”
“Yeah,” Alex looked down at his hands only for Michael to cup his chin and lift his head back up.
“No.” Michael denied. “You sent me your address, you wanted me to come here, Alex.” He shook his head. “And it wasn’t just to say we’re done. You could’ve done that in an email.”
“I wanted to see you,” Alex finally admitted. “I read your emails and I fucking missed you and I just wanted to see y-” Michael kissed him. Alex would like to say that he was surprised or startled or caught off guard but in truth he’d been waiting for it since he saw Michael step out of the taxi. Been aching for it really. So he didn’t waste even a breath before kissing him back. His hands were on Michael immediately, touching as much of him as he could while Michael’s held him in place.
“This means something, Alex,” Michael broke away to say. His hand cupped Alex’s where it rested over Michael’s heart. Over his mark. “It means everything.” This time, Alex initiated the kiss.
He pulled back far enough to rest his forehead against Michael’s. “It’s not enough, though. Isn’t that what you told Maria?” Michael leaned back. “There is so much shit between us Michael and as much as we love each other, on its own it's not enough.”
---
Kyle pushed open the doors of the Sheriff’s station, careful not to spill any of the coffees in his hand. Once inside he had to dodge two deputies carrying large stacks of files and a teenage delinquent being scared straight en route to his mom’s office.
“Morning,” he greeted brightly.
“Good morning, Kyle,” she greeted suspiciously. “To what do I owe the pleasure?”
He tried to act as offended as possible. “I can’t come bring my mother coffee in the morning?”
She hummed. “Of course you can. But you never do. Spill.” She pointed to the coffee tray in his hand. “Who’s the other coffee for? Deputy Evans perhaps?”
Kyle felt his cheeks flush and he started sputtering. “Wha- Why would you thi- Why would I-”
“Ah,” she smiled, pleased with herself. “How’s that whole arrangement with Liz working out?”
“...do you really want to know?”
“If it’s about my son’s sex life, no. Your love life? Yes I would like to know how you’re doing.”
“Well,” he started off. “Things have...progressed. Unexpectedly so, I mean.”
“In a good way?”
“Yes?” He winced. “I don’t know yet. We’re all sort of not talking to each other.”
“That doesn’t sound good.” She leaned forward and cradled the coffee in between her hands. “Communication is key to making any relationship work.”
“I know. I just- need to figure out what I’m going to say.”
“You know I’m here if you need me,” she told him.
“I know, Mom. Thank you. But I have someone else in mind for the job.”
She laughed. “Okay. I’ll let you go. But don’t forget about dinner this Sunday! Your abuela has been talking about it all week and she wants to see Liz again and meet Max.”
Kyle paused halfway to the door. “And Max? Did you tell her…?”
“We’ll ease her into it. Now go. And don’t be late!”
Kyle really wanted to ask what his mom meant by that but he knew an exit when it was shoved in his face. He eased the door closed behind him and headed back for the bullpen just in time to see Max walk in. Skidding to a stop, Kyle ducked into the little coffee nook and prayed Max already had his morning cup. When a minute went by with no Max, he craned his neck around the corner to see what was going on.
Max was talking to another deputy, Morales, if Kyle remembered correctly. He was smiling and laughing and he looked good. Very good.
Kyle thumped his head on the wall. “Bad thoughts,” he whispered.
“That for me?” Came the voice of an angel. Kyle whirled around to see Jenna behind him, her hand outstretched for her coffee. He handed it over gladly. “So. What do you want?”
“I have a Max Evans problem,” he blurted out. “You are uniquely qualified to help me. So...help?”
Jenna froze with the coffee halfway to her lips and looked between him and Max. “Really? You too?” She laughed. “It’s because he’s tall isn’t it?”
Kyle closed his eyes. “I’m never living this down, am I?”
“Not likely,” she answered. With another glance behind him she grabbed his arm and ushered him out the back door. “I’ve got a few minutes. Talk.”
“So I’ve been dating Liz,” he began.
“Right and so has Max,” Jenna finished. “Get to the part where you have the hots for my partner.”
“We might’ve had sex all three of us and it was really good and I want to do it again except I’m pretty sure neither one of us has ever thought of ourselves as anything other than completely heterosexual?” He spilled it all out in a rush. “Oh and none of us are currently talking to each other.”
Jenna blinked and took another sip of her coffee. “Right. So what’s the problem?”
He made a face. “Uh, how do I talk to Max about doing it again?”
“Well, you walk up to him and you open your mouth and you let words come out,” she replied in a deadpan. When he just stared at her, she sighed and continued. “You like him. You think sex with him is fun. You want to do it again. What about this is complicated?”
“I don’t actually like him that much? I mean we’re friends but that’s it? I don’t want to start dating him too.”
“Do you think he wants to start dating you?”
“Probably not.”
“Then I fail to see the problem. Thanks for the coffee.”
Kyle stared after her in shock. Why did everyone keep making it sound like it was easy?
“Thanks for nothing!” He called out as she walked inside. Just as the door closed he saw her lift the coffee cup in acknowledgement.
---
“Isobel Evans,” Rosa sing-songed. She watched with delight as Isobel tensed up before her. “Fancy running into you here.”
She looked back over her shoulder. “In my own office?”
Rosa looked around. “Wow. It is, isn’t it?” She flopped down into the chair opposite Isobel’s desk.
“Get up,” Isobel hissed. “I have a meeting right now and I don’t want you in here when the client walks in.”
“No worries. I’m your meeting.” She grinned as Isobel froze again.
“Why?”
“Maria.”
And just like that the exasperation was gone and in its place was the Ice Queen Rosa remembered fondly. “No. I am not talking about this with you or with anyone.”
“Just tell me what happened,” Rosa urged. “Maria’s a mess.”
“Yeah, well, so am I. And what did I just say about not talking with you?”
“Isobel,” Rosa said quietly, all attitude gone. “What happened?”
Isobel glared at her for a beat before easing into her chair slowly. She didn’t quite relax but she did lose the steely-eyed glare. “I don’t know, okay? I thought we were on the same page right up until she woke up. The way she looked at me, Rosa,” she shook her head. “It was like I-” she swallowed. “She kissed me that night. She kissed me and then we kissed some more and things just kept progressing,” she flailed an arm out. “I thought we were on the same page,” she repeated. She dropped her face into her hands.
“And then what?”
“And then nothing. I haven’t seen or spoken to her since.”
Rosa furrowed her brow. “It’s been a week. You two talk every day.”
“We did,” Isobel agreed. “Until she looked at me like I took advantage of her, like I-” she still couldn’t say it. Very quietly, she added, “did I?”
“I don’t know,” Rosa answered honestly. She stood up. “I’ll talk to her, okay? See if she’s willing to talk to you because you two need to work this out somehow.”
“Rosa?” Isobel asked when she got her hand on the door. “Is she okay?”
“She’ll be just fine,” Rosa promised.
“That’s not what I asked.”
“No. It’s not.” She closed the door quietly behind her.
---
“Hey Maria,” Max called out as soon as he stepped through the door. He didn’t want to startle her.
“Max,” Maria greeted when she saw him. “What brings you by during daylight hours? We’re not open yet.”
“I know. Sheriff Valenti just wanted me to come by and ask if you would be open to hosting a fundraiser for the department.”
Maria looked at him. “A fundraiser? For the Sheriff’s Department? Here?”
Max shrugged. “What can I say, you’re a better draw than the coffee shop or the new record store.”
“Thank you?” She shook her head. “When is this?”
“Whenever you can, I think? Sometime in the next month, though.”
Maria turned around and looked at the calendar pinned to the wall. “I’ll have to check the other calendar and my employee work schedule but I might be able to work something out.”
“Yeah?” She nodded. “Great. I’ll let the Sheriff know and she can call you to work out the details.”
“Okay. Thanks for stopping by.” She gave him a small smile and turned back to her work.
“Maria?” Max couldn’t help himself. “Are you okay?”
Her back stiffened and she turned around slowly. “I’m fine. Why wouldn’t I be?” There was an odd note in her voice that Max couldn’t decipher.
“I don’t know,” he answered honestly. “I just know Isobel’s been really upset for the last week and you and her aren’t talking and-”
Maria scoffed. “Isobel’s upset?”
“Yes,” Max stated firmly. “She is. And I’m worried about her. And you too. I don’t know what’s going on and I don’t need to but I just wanted to check in with you.”
“I’m fine, Max,” she assured him. “Thanks for checking in.”
He lingered a moment longer but it was obvious she wasn’t going to say anything else so he left.
---
Isobel stopped the car in the middle of the street, uncaring of the other cars. Horns started blaring but she ignored them in favor of rolling her window down. “Michael?!” She shouted. Across the street, Michael turned around to look at her before continuing to the Crashdown. Isobel rolled the window back up and quickly made her way around the block until she found a parking spot.
Michael was just nearing the entrance when she got out. “Michael!” He stopped and waited for her to cross the street. “What are you doing here? I thought you went to see Alex?”
“I did,” he nodded. “And now I’m back.”
She shook her head, bewildered. “And where’s Alex?”
“At Andrews. Where he’s supposed to be.” He turned and slipped inside behind another customer. Isobel hurried after him.
“Hey,” she grabbed his arm and pulled him to the side. “Talk to me. I thought your flight back wasn’t for another few days?”
“I got a new flight.” He pasted a fake grin on his face but his eyes looked so sad, Isobel didn’t need to reach into his mind to know what had happened.
“I thought you were working it out,” she commented sadly. She’d driven him to the airport a few days earlier and he’d finally revealed the emails he’d been sending.
“So did I,” he admitted. “But I’m here and he’s there and apparently that’s just a few too many miles for us to work through.” He swallowed and grinned that horrible grin again. “Lunch?” She let him go when he pulled his arm away.
Distantly, she heard him order for her but her thoughts were running too wild for her to care if he got it right or not. Michael’s mark was the darkest of all of theirs. If he and Alex couldn’t make it work, what hope was there for her and Maria? “Izzy?” She jerked her arm at Michael’s touch. “Table’s this way,” he nodded at their usual booth. “You okay?”
“Uh,” she followed him over. “I don’t think so.”
“What’s wrong?”
“We’re all going to die miserable and alone, aren’t we?”
Michael shook his hair. “What? Where’s that coming from?”
“Your mark is so dark it’s nearly black and you and Alex can’t make it work and I know you’ll never really be happy with anyone else, no matter how much you told yourself you could’ve made it work with Maria. Max has never loved anyone but Liz but they’re not even speaking to each other right. And me and Maria? Well the way things are going I doubt I’m ever going to see her again.” She ripped open a straw and dropped it into her water. “So yeah. Miserable and alone. All of us.”
“Well that’s depressing.”
“Am I wrong?” Isobel challenged him.
“Yes!” Michael replied. “Look, Max is going to get over his little bisexual freak out and work things out with Liz and Kyle. You and Maria are going to talk and figure out what exactly happened and where it went wrong and then you’re going to fix everything. You’re not going to die miserable and alone.”
“And you?”
“I might die miserable and alone,” he replied easily but he wouldn’t meet her eyes.
“Michael-”
“We had our chance, okay? More than one really and for whatever reason, it just wasn’t meant to be.”
“I don’t believe that.”
“Good for you.”
“Michael-”
“Look. My life is here and his is there. It’s that simple.”
Isobel looked around. “What’s keeping you here? The scrapyard? Your bunker?” Michael just stared at her like she was an idiot. “Me? Max? Michael, you don’t have to stay here for us, we’re not kids anymore, we’ll be okay if we split up.”
Michael just shook his head. “I can’t leave. Roswell is home.”
---
“I really hate those damn marks,” Maria knew she sounded bitter. “If it wasn’t for them I’d still be just fine with Michael. We’d be happy.”
“Would you?” Liz asked, her voice carrying oddly from where her head lay next to Maria’s feet.
Maria lifted her head to stare down the bed at Liz. “Yes! Maybe we weren’t perfect for each other or hopelessly in love but what we had was good!” She flopped back down. “It was better than this.”
“Maria?” Liz propped herself up on her elbows. When Maria didn’t answer right away she kicked her shoulder lightly with her toe.
“What?”
“What happened that night?”
Maria swallowed. “I don’t know.”
Liz furrowed her brow. “What does that mean?”
She huffed a laugh. “It means I don’t know. Last thing I remember we were having some drinks down at the bar and the next thing I know I’m waking up next to her in bed without any clothes on.”
Liz quickly reversed her position on the bed so that she was laying next to Maria, their heads on the same pillow. “Isobel would never do something you weren’t comfortable with. You know how seriously she takes that sort of thing.”
“Yeah, I do. But I also know that I was not ready to have sex with her. Hell, I was still deciding if I wanted to kiss her yet or hold off until I was ready to try and date her. And I know I made that clear to her.”
“I thought you two were dating?”
“What?” Maria pulled back to stare at her. “No.”
“Um,” Liz stammered. “I’m not going to argue with you but from an outsider’s perspective you two were going on dates.”
“We’re friends,” Maria pointed out.
“You and I are friends,” Liz explained softly. “We don’t go for midnight drives out the desert. We don’t have one-on-one lunches or dinners most days of the week. I wouldn’t bring an extra sweater along to Max’s house in case you got chilly after dinner.”
“But we’re friends,” Maria couldn’t help but repeat.
“Okay,” Liz agreed. “But did Isobel know that? Or did she think you were dating and just going slow?” Maria didn’t have an answer for that. “And this is why you should talk to her.”
Maria sniffed and shifted the pillow under their heads. “Enough about my problems. How’re the boyfriends?”
Liz rolled onto her back with a groan. “Who knows? Not me, that’s for damn sure.”
“Still haven’t heard from them?”
“Nope.”
“You know,” Maria said slowly. “If it wasn’t for the mark, you might not be in this mess.”
Liz’s head lolled to the side so she could look at her. “You’re right,” she realized. “Fuck these stupid aliens and their stupid marks.”
“I thought that’s what you were trying to do,” Rosa laughed from the doorway. Liz and Maria both threw pillows at her.
---
Kyle paced on Max’s back patio waiting for him to get home. He could do this. It was Max Evans, for chrissake, it’s not like it’s Jesse Manes he’s waiting to have a heart to heart with.
“Kyle?” Kyle jerked backwards in surprise, his foot slipping off the edge of the patio. “Woah!” Max reached out and grabbed his arm to steady him. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you. Are you okay?”
Max’s hand was warm on his arm. That was all he could focus on. “Yeah, yeah I’m fine.” He shook his head to clear it. “We should talk.”
Max let go and stepped back, his hand brushing that persistent lock of hair out of his face. “Yeah, I guess we should.” He jerked his thumb at the house. “You want a beer?”
“We had sex.”
“That’s a no to the beer, huh?”
Kyle rolled his eyes. “Can we just get through this?”
Max cleared his throat. “Yeah, okay. So we had sex. With Liz.”
“Yeah, with Liz. And each other.” Kyle made himself look Max in the eye. “And it was good.”
Max’s eyes widened in surprise. “Yeah, it was.”
“Yeah?” Kyle asked in disbelief. Maybe it really would be as easy as Jenna said.
“Yeah,” Max nodded sheepishly. “I, uh, I didn’t expect it to.”
“Me neither.”
“So-” Max brushed the hair out of his face again. “What does that mean for us?”
“You’re going to make me do this first?”
Max smiled. “You’re better at it.”
Kyle rolled his eyes. “Fine. The sex was nice and I wouldn’t say no to a repeat but I don’t particularly want to date you and I don’t think I want to have sex with you without Liz present.”
“So...business as usual but now we can have sex together too?”
“Yeah, basically,” Kyle shrugged. “And if at any point any of that changes, we talk about it.” He studied Max. “Does that work for you?”
Max nodded. “Yeah. We’re on the same page.”
“Good. Care to fill me in?” Liz asked from the doorway. Both of them whirled to face her. “I was coming by to yell at you for still ghosting me, Evans. Imagine my surprise when I find Kyle beat me to it.” She stepped outside but no further. “So who wants to bring me up to speed?”
Kyle looked to Max but he didn’t seem forthcoming with any answer so he bit the bullet. “The sex was good. With all of us,” he explained. “It, uh, it was better than we both expected and we both sort of-”
“Freaked out?” Liz supplied.
“Basically,” Max agreed. “But we just talked about it and we’re on the same page. The sex was good and we’d like to do it again but only with you present and outside of that it’s business as usual. We’re not going to start going on dates or having sex without you with us.”
Liz looked between them. “So we’re still doing this?”
“If you still want to,” Kyle answered.
“You- If I-” she let out a tiny growl. “You two are infuriating! Do you seriously think you can run out of my apartment and not speak to me for two weeks and then just say ‘oh we’re all good’ and that’s it?”
“I’m sorry,” Kyle told her. “I shouldn’t have done that and I shouldn’t have ignored you and avoided you. I was dealing with it, poorly I know, but I was trying to handle it on my own before I came and talked to you both about it.”
“That’s not how this works, Kyle,” Liz told him. “We’re partners, all of us, and that means we talk to each other. If you weren’t dealing with it well, I want to know that! I want to be there and help you figure out how to deal with it. But you just left me out in the cold like I was nothing.”
“Liz-” Max started towards her.
She whirled on him. “And you! You did the same damn thing! How can we do this if you’re both just going to run away every time something new spooks you? News flash, I’ve had trouble adjusting to this whole thing too and I didn’t run away. No, I talked to you both and you helped me adjust. Why did you both refuse to let me help you? To help each other?”
“You’re right,” Max told her. “I’m sorry. I should have talked to you, to both of you,” he nodded at Kyle, “and we should’ve dealt with this together.”
“Yes, we should have.” Liz crossed her arms.
“Next time, we will,” Kyle assured her. Liz stared at him. “If there is a next time?”
She snorted. “Please. Between the three of us? Someone’s absolutely going to freak out again at some point.”
Kyle felt the last bit of apprehension fade from his body and he couldn’t help but kiss her. She let out a small startled noise but she kissed back immediately. When they broke away, Max pulled her into a hug and she leaned up for a small kiss. “We’re a work in progress,” Liz mumbled.
“We’re getting there,” Max answered. He smiled at Kyle over Liz’s head and he couldn’t help but smile in return.
---
“You’re sure this is the right thing to do?” Max double checked before he got out of the car. Isobel nodded.
“I’m positive. Come on.”
He followed her up to the front door and inside. She didn’t bother knocking.
“Uh, hi?” Michael greeted from the couch. He was wrapped up in an old Air Force blanket and the current placement of his hand told Max that he’d been tracing his mark right before they walked in. As they stood there, he hiked the blanket up higher to hide it.
Any reservations he may have had were now gone and Max thrust the envelope at Michael. “Here.”
Michael took it slowly, his eyes going between him and Isobel. “What’s going on?”
“Open it,” Isobel urged.
Michael still looked uneasy but he peeled back the flap and pulled out the two things inside. One was a check. The other was a plane ticket to Reagan Airport in D.C. Google had assured them that it was the closest airport to Alex.
It was one way.
“What is this?”
Isobel looked to Max before sitting down next to Michael. Max settled on the coffee table in front of him. “You said the problem was that you were here and Alex is there,” Isobel reminded him.
“Alex can’t come back here, even if he wanted to,” Max added. “But you can go there.”
Michael shook his head. “Roswell’s home. I can’t leave.”
“Why not?” Isobel asked gently. “Because of Max and I? We’re okay, Michael. You stayed here after graduation because you were worried about me and you’ve stayed here since then because we feel tied to this place but we’re not. You can leave.”
“You’re kicking me out of town?” Michael sounded betrayed.
“Michael, this will always be your hometown,” Max promised him. “And you will always be our brother, wherever we are. No distance is going to change that. But tell me something, okay? When you think of home, what’s the first thing that comes to mind?”
“Alex,” Michael breathed.
“Then you should be with Alex,” Max rested a hand on Michael’s knee and squeezed gently. “You can always come back and we can come visit you.”
“You’ll be sick of me before you know it,” Isobel promised. Her eyes were getting watery but they all ignored it. Mostly because his and Michael’s were equally wet. “I don’t want you to die miserable and alone, Michael.”
Michael reached out and pulled her into his arms. She went easily, sinking into his embrace, the blanket getting darker under her cheek. A moment later, Max felt a push on his back and he smiled before giving in and joining them on the couch.
“What’s the check for?”
“Travel fund,” Max answered. “We weren’t kidding about coming back to visit.”
---
Isobel was exhausted when she finally got home, the trip out to Michael’s taking more out of her than she’d thought it would. She made it all the way inside before realizing something was wrong.
“Hello?” she called into the dark house. She grabbed the pepper spray out of her purse and readied her mind for telekinesis.
“It’s me,” Maria’s voice came softly from the kitchen.
Isobel let out a shuddering breath. “Don’t do that.”
“I’m sorry,” she apologized, the low light in the kitchen casting her in shadow as she stood in the doorway. “I texted you I was coming over.”
Isobel dug her phone out of her purse to check and sure enough there was a missed text from her. She dropped the phone and the pepper spray back inside and put the purse on its appropriate hook. “I’m really tired, Maria. Can this wait?”
“What happened that night?” Isobel froze.
“What?”
“I don’t remember.”
Her blood ran cold. She took a step back, horrified. “What do you mean you don’t remember?” The shadow that was Maria shrugged and suddenly Isobel couldn’t do this. She slapped at the wall until she hit a light switch. Both of them blinked against the sudden brightness but Isobel felt her shoulders relax just a little. “What don’t you remember?”
“I remember drinking at the Pony,” Maria said slowly. “And I remember waking up in bed without any clothes on.” Isobel covered her mouth. She thought she might be sick. She knew what that felt like, had enough missing time from Noah, and to think she’d done that to Maria… “So I need you to fill in the gaps. Because I know you wouldn’t have done anything I didn’t ask for but I- I don’t remember asking. And I don’t,” she cleared her throat. “I don’t remember wanting to ask.”
“You-”
“Wait, before you answer, I have to ask,” Maria cut her off. “In your opinion, were we dating?”
Isobel felt blindsided. “That’s the impression I was under yes. You wanted to take things slowly so we weren’t kissing or anything like that but yeah, we’ve been dating.”
Maria looked surprised. “I thought we were just being friends.”
“I don’t typically bring my friends dinner so we can eat together when they have to work late,” Isobel told her. Maria had done that for her no less than three times when she missed their dinner plans. “I don’t usually head out to the desert to look at the stars with my friends,” she added. “If that’s your definition of friends then we’ve had a fundamental error in communication.”
“I’m starting to get that,” Maria agreed. “Now about that night?”
Isobel swallowed. “Um. We went out to the desert because there was a meteor shower and then we went to the Pony because you had to close after your bartender texted you that he had to leave. After it emptied out we had a few drinks and then you kissed me. You kissed me and you said you were tired of taking it slow. And then things just sort of progressed from there.” She crossed her arms over her stomach. “I followed your cues the whole night. Just like I’ve been doing this whole time. Maria, I don’t know why you don’t remember but you weren’t that drunk. I’ve seen you drunk enough to black out and you weren’t. I wouldn’t have done anything if you were. I promise you.”
“I believe you,” Maria assured her.
“I’m sorry,” Isobel apologized. “I should have realized something was up. You moved so fast from kissing to wanting to have sex and I was surprised by it but you seemed so sure that I didn’t fight you on it. I should have. I’m so sorry, Maria.”
Maria took a deep breath. “It’s not your fault.”
“I should have-”
“Gabrielle, the bartender who left early? Someone slipped a drug into her drink and her sister came and picked her up.” She rubbed her arms. “I think I drank the same drink when I was clearing up. It was stupid, I know, but it was set aside in the section we use for employee drinks and it was full and I just- it wasn’t your fault,” she repeated.
Isobel hurried across the room to Maria but stopped just short until Maria reached out for her. Then, Isobel gathered her in her arms and held her tight. “I’m sorry this happened.”
“I’m sorry I blamed you,” Maria murmured. “When I woke up I was just so freaked out and I didn’t understand. You were right there and it was easy to pin it on you even though I know you’d never do anything like it.”
“I wouldn’t,” Isobel promised vehemently.
“I know,” Maria assured her again. “I know that.”
Isobel held her for a while until Maria slipped out of her grasp. “So what does this mean for us?” She asked quietly.
“I don’t know,” Maria admitted. “But I do know I want to know we’re dating next time.”
“Next time?” Isobel asked.
Maria nodded. “I like you Isobel. A lot. And even though I’m really not ready to enter into a new relationship, especially right now, I would like to at some point.”
“Okay.”
“Just like that?” Maria huffed a little laugh.
“Yeah,” Isobel nodded. “I told you, I’m taking my cues from you. You already know how I feel and you know that I am happy to be your friend. Anything more than that we take at your pace.”
“Okay.” Maria smiled. “Thank you.”
“You really don’t need to thank me for that.”
“Fine,” Maria tugged her into another hug. “Then thank you for the hugs. They feel safe.”
“Well,” Isobel pressed her face into Maria’s neck. “You can have one any time you want.”
“Promise?”
“Promise.”
---
“What?!” Alex yelled. It was stupid o’clock in the morning and he did not want to deal with his idiot neighbors right now. To add to his troubles, the banging woke Buffy up and she beat him to the door, her barks probably waking up whichever neighbors had managed to sleep through the knocking.
“Do you know what time it i-” Alex opened the door. “Michael?”
Michael Guerin stood on his doorstep, three large duffel bags at his feet. “Hey Alex. You know any good apartments around here?”

Deck the Halls
A Roswell New Mexico Fanfic
The Christmas light displays along the Pecos river lit up the night in a swirl of colors and movement.  Liz snuck in a short video of one of the displays on her phone to message to her father - she was pretty sure he had been more excited to hear about the tickets Max had bought for the event than she was.
“Those tickets begin selling in October, mija!  Max must have been planning this for quite a while.”
A forty-minute boat tour of Christmas lights probably wouldn’t have been her first choice for a winter date, to be honest, but Max had been quick to point out that no dancing was involved and it got them out of Roswell for a few hours.
The boat was full of other couples and families pointing out different displays excitedly, but something about the moment still felt serene. Towards the end of the tour, Liz leaned her head on Max’s shoulder and just watched the final displays pass by.
“Tired?”  Max asked her, even as he leaned his head against hers gently.
“Comfortable.  I may go to sleep on you, which is what you get for taking me on boat rides instead of dancing.”
Max gave a short laugh and turned his head to press a kiss to her hair.  “I’ll embarrass you on the dance floor next date.”  He promised.
“Deal.  How do you think Isobel is doing with Bella?”
“I have about seven notifications I’ve been ignoring as they came in.”
“How much you want to bet she drops her off with Alex and Mikey before we get back?”
“Stop it, she adores her.”
“She adores her Christmas Tree more.  Seriously, I’ll let you off the hook for dance night if I’m wrong.”  Liz offered.
“You sure?  Because you’re going to be wrong.”  Max looked at her.
“I won’t be wrong.”  Liz straightened and turned to him.  “And if I’m right, you have to come to Christmas Carol Karaoke at the Wild Pony with me.”
“Oh, come on.  That’s just painful.”
“So you admit, you’ll lose.”
“I am not losing.  She’ll keep her until we get home.”
“No texting or sending psychic messages because that’s cheating.”
“No texting, no psychic messages.  She’ll keep her until we get back.”
“Deal.”  Liz offered her hand and they shook on it.
-----
Michael was greeted by a grey fluffball with big green eyes when he opened the cabin door.
“This little terror knocked over my tree twice.”  Isobel informed him.
“There is nothing little about that cat.”  Michael replied.  He was pretty sure once she had finished growing, the cat would be almost as big as Buffy.
“Max and Liz were due back an hour ago.”
“Maybe they got stuck in traffic.”
“Max hasn’t texted.”
“They are on a date.  He might be a little preoccupied.” Michael smirked.
“Please do not speculate on our brother’s sex life.  And take the cat.”
“It’s revenge, y’know.”  Michael informed her as he took Bella into his arms.  She was serene during the exchange, her tail twitching only slightly.  “For all the pictures you’ve been forcing her to pose for all day.”
“You’ve been stalking your sister’s social media all afternoon?”  Alex teased, coming up behind him.
Michael threw him a betrayed look over his shoulder. "You're supposed to be on my side."
Buffy scampered up and Isobel scowled at them as she knelt down to pet her.  “I send you cute winter outfits and you dress poor Buffy in an ugly sweater.”
“You had Grizabella in reindeer ears.”  Alex pointed out.
“Oh, so you were stalking her social media too.”  Michael put in.
“I’ll text Max and let him know his little terror is here, and that he owes me for the broken ornaments.  I’d watch your tree if I were you.”
“Um… yeah.”  Alex glanced back into the cabin.
“Definitely.”  Michael nodded.
Isobel’s eyes narrowed as she stood back up.  “You do have a tree, don’t you?”
‘It’s… It’s being delivered tomorrow, actually.”  Alex excused.
Michael tried not to snort.  Isobel glanced at him suspiciously, and he quickly schooled his features.  “It’s the truth.”
“Uh-huh.”  Isobel crossed her arms.  “You better have pictures of it up and decorated by tomorrow night or I’ll be forced to take things into my own hands - and you know that’s not an idle threat.”
Michael closed the door before setting Bella down.  She jumped onto the couch, glaring at Buffy when she scampered over to sit next to her.  “It really isn’t an idle threat, you know.  Isobel is scary about these things.”
“She’s not scary.”
“Three years ago she secretly put reindeer antlers on my truck while I was at the Wild Pony.”
“So you’re really feeling for Grizabella right now.”
“Bella.”  Michael corrected.  He’d warned Liz that Max should not be trusted to name anything ever, but had she listened to him?  At least she’d wrangled a decent nickname for the poor cat.  “The point is if we do not send pictures of a decorated tree to Isobel tomorrow, she will come here and decorate the place herself.”
“So we’ll get a tree.”  Alex was clearly amused.
Michael narrowed his eyes.  “Do you even know where to get a tree in Roswell?”
“Don’t you?”
“Where would I have put a tree?”
Alex’s amusement softened to something closer to affection.  “Well, we have a place to put one now, so… let’s get a tree.”
Michael felt a soft smile curve his own lips.  “Yeah, okay.  Let’s get a tree.”
-----
It was hard for Liz to say if she'd lost consciousness. She hadn't been looking at the clock when yellow pollen had exploded over them both and Max had passed out - losing control of the car.  The jeep had slammed into the guardrail, which was slightly preferable to running off the road, but her head was pounding from the impact. She cataloged the aches she knew would be worse in a few hours, even as she forced her body to move - to unbuckle her seatbelt and take stock of the situation.
She couldn't guess how much of the pollen Max had breathed in, but he was still unconscious from it.  A hiss from the back seat was her only warning before more yellow pollen exploded over them both a second time.  It didn't affect her the way it did Max's biology,  but she still coughed when she breathed some in.  The new layer of the poison couldn't be doing Max any good.
Her door was against the guardrail, which left Max's door as the only way out. He didn't even twitch as she climbed on him to open the door, which was concerning.  More concerning, however, was the sound of another hiss from the backseat.  Prepared this time, Liz covered her mouth, noting that the pollen was spraying out of the potted poinsettia they'd gotten earlier in the evening.  It had been outside the restaurant they'd eaten dinner at, a small group of people handing them out to everyone passing by who would take one.  Nothing about it had struck her as odd at the time. It had simply seemed like part of the holiday festivities going on around the town.
This was clearly a preplanned attack, though. Which meant someone had been watching them for a while.  Her first priority was to keep any more of the pollen from getting to Max. Grabbing the poinsettia pot, she hurled it over the guardrail into the desert beyond, listening in satisfaction to it shatter in the distance. She checked her phone next, but there was no signal. At the moment she didn't see any other cars along the stretch of road, but that could change quickly.
"C'mon, Max.  Wake up." Her words, unsurprisingly, had no effect. She had no way of knowing exactly how much pollen he'd been dosed with or how long he'd remain unconscious. Unbuckling his seatbelt, she swung one of his arms over her shoulder and tried to pull him up from the seat. She gave up with a groan.  "Okay, that's not happening…"
Digging into the back of the Jeep, she pulled out a tarp and some nylon cord.  "Knew I could count on you to be a boy scout." She began to tie the cord in a loop, glancing uneasily back down the highway.  "Gonna have to make this fast, if I hurt you, I am so sorry." She pressed a kiss to his forehead before she began to pull the loop of the cord around him.
-----
“Yeah, Liz, we do have your cat.”  Michael picked up the call on the second ring but paused when no reply came. “Liz?”  Hello?”
When Michael frowned at the phone screen, Alex sat up straighter from his comfortable position on the couch with Buffy on his lap.  “Everything alright?”
“I don’t know.  We got disconnected.”  Michael clicked a few buttons, raising it to his ear.  “Straight to voicemail.”
“Well, if they’re still driving in from Carlsbad, there are some areas along the road where you lose reception.”  Alex pulled out his own phone - calling up his traffic app.  Buffy huffed at the lack of pets and moved to the other side of the couch.  Bella, curled up on the back, opened one eye to watch her.
“I guess that might be all it is.”  Michael sat on the arm of the couch since Buffy had stolen his seat.  “I’m just going to…”  He trailed off, closing his eyes.  After several long moments of silence, he gave a huff of frustration.  “Nothing.  Max must be out of my range.”
“Isobel says you need to practice more.”.
Michael scowled down at him.  “I regret introducing you two to each other.”
Alex gave a laugh.  “No, you don’t.  You love that I get along with your family.”
“You get along with Isobel.” Michael corrected pointedly.
“I get along with Max just fine.”
“You got into a brawl with Max.  Kyle and I have never even gotten into a physical fight, but you two did.”
“Old news.”  Alex insisted.
“That was six months ago.”
“Old news.”  He repeated, before changing the subject.  “By the way, I had a great idea about how to get a Christmas tree.”  Michael gave him a suspicious look, which he ignored, handing him his phone so he could look at the search results.
-----
The phone disconnected after two rings, as Liz lost the signal.  She gave a curse at her luck, glancing around the empty desert landscape again.  Max was tied into the tarp, which she’d been using to make it easier to drag him to safety.  The jeep was still somewhat in view in the distance, but she’d stopped to try her phone again.  If she could get a hold of someone in the group, they may be able to come get them and back them up against whoever had laid the trap.  There was also the chance that Michael or Isobel might be under attack as well, which she couldn’t afford to think about right then - one crisis at a time.
Two cars pulled up to the Jeep, and Liz crouched down next to Max - watching.  Three men stepped out of the vehicles - two aiming guns at the jeep before the third waved them away - noting it was empty.  He stepped forward to gaze out at the darkness outside the car headlights.  At the moment he was looking in the opposite direction than she’d taken them, but that could change.
“Miss Ortecho, I’m impressed.”  He called out.  “But I know you have to be close enough to hear me.  You’re outnumbered, the alien is unconscious at best.  Just turn him over to us, and you can go free.  Nothing personal.”
Alex had been working on shutting down various alien-hunting programs since he first discovered Project Shepherd.  Some of the people who’d been involved over the years had proven more dedicated than others, though.  This wasn’t the first attack the group had endured, but it was the first in quite some time.  Liz was no optimist, but she had begun to hope that they’d seen the last of them.
“Do a sweep.”  The man told the other two, and they turned on flashlights as they made their way into the desert, thankfully on the other side of the highway first.  Unfortunately, the leader didn’t follow - and she knew that attempting to pull Max farther would make too much noise.
It was Max they wanted, which meant she needed to lead them away.  There were rocks around her on the desert floor, and Liz picked one up - scratching a message into the dirt quickly.  When she’d finished, she leaned down to press a kiss to Max’s lips, lingering for a moment to gather herself.  Then she moved away from him - still keeping the road in sight.
When she was a safe distance away, with Max no longer visible to her, she picked up a rock and hurled it - the thud was not as satisfying as she’d hoped, and the leader on the highway didn’t even turn.  “C’mon…”  She picked up another and threw it again - aiming for the guardrail this time.  The sound was much more satisfying, and as the alien hunters began to shout at each other, she started running, making as much noise as possible.
-----
“Let’s get a Christmas tree, Michael.  We can cut down our own, it isn’t rocket science, Michael.  I’m a regular Paul Bunyan, Michael.”
“Okay, so it wasn’t my best idea.”  Alex was forced to admit, seeing as there had ended up being a couple of extra steps involved than he’d originally thought when the notion had struck him.
“It’s still dark out.”
“It’s six.”
“Why are we out of bed at six again?”
“Because we need a permit before we can chop down a tree.  And we have to go somewhere to get the permit.”
“I feel like this whole idea is starting to get out of control.”  Michael pointed out.
He probably wasn’t wrong.  “I thought the permit would be available on-line.  What kind of permit isn’t available to print off a computer?”
“Permits to cut down Christmas trees, apparently.”
There had been a brief argument over vehicles because Buffy and Bella were going to have to come with them, and Alex’s SUV was probably better for transporting all four of them, but Michael had pointed out that his truck would be better for transporting the actual tree.  Michael had won out, and Buffy was currently on the seat between them happy as a lark.  Bella had not been pleased with the lack of places to perch in Michael’s truck - having unsuccessfully attempted both the tiny ridge of dash and the back of the bench seat.  Both had proven too narrow and she was currently in the footwell on the passenger side, attacking Alex’s shoelaces.
Alex pointedly ignored Michael’s jibe.  “Did you text Liz?”
“Yeah, but I still haven’t heard back.”
“If they got in late, they might still be asleep.”
“Because they aren’t waking up at the crack of dawn to go get a permit to cut down a tree.”
“We could always let Isobel decorate for us.”
“You don’t play fair at all.”  Michael complained.
“...you know me, I play to win.”  Alex’s tone wasn’t quite as playful as the words implied, and Michael glanced over to find him watching him.
He hesitated a moment before replying.  “I’m glad you do.”
-----
The sun was beginning to rise, painting the sky and landscape in yellow and oranges when Max gasped awake.  For a moment he struggled against the ropes around him, as his mind tried to catch up on events.  His body ached all over, and he remembered the cloud of yellow pollen.  Then nothing.  He must have passed out and crashed the jeep.  “Liz?  Liz!”
He wasn’t as good at telekinesis yet as Isobel, and nowhere near Michael’s level, but he could manage to untie the tarp from around him.  Remnants of the yellow pollen still clung to his coat, and despite the chill of the desert morning, he shrugged it off.  He could see where the jeep had crashed into the guardrail.  Two unknown vehicles were parked in front of and behind it, but there was no one in sight.
“Liz!”  He shouted again.
As he stood, he paused when he saw a message etched into the dirt beside him.
‘Follow Me.’
Max allowed himself to feel relief at the message, resting his hand on the letters.  Clearly, though, something was wrong, and he didn’t have much time.  He didn’t even know exactly how long he’d been out or when Liz had written the message.  Closing his eyes, he reached out to where he could feel the connection between Liz and himself, and he followed it.
-----
There was an array of ghost towns and abandoned buildings dotting the southwest.  Liz wasn’t sure if the building she found belonged to a forgotten town, or had once been privately owned and fallen into disrepair.  She’d been leading the alien hunters on a wild goose chase for hours.  She was exhausted, and the dilapidated structure gave her some much-needed cover.
Inside it was dusty, and probably not structurally safe, but at least she was hidden from sight.  She pulled out her phone, and barely resisted shouting in relief when she saw she had a signal.  She dialed Michael’s number first, but frowned when it went to voicemail.  She was about to try Isobel’s number next when a flash of green light filled the building.
She scrambled to her feet, instinct registering a threat in the sudden appearance of someone else.  Then her mind caught up with what she was seeing.  “Max!”
“Liz!”
Liz launched herself at him, curling her arms around his shoulders.  “You’re alright.  You’re safe.”
“I’m fine.”  Max returned the embrace, some of the tension in his body easing.  “Are you?”
“I am now.”
“Where are we?  What happened?”
“I have… no idea where we are.”  Liz admitted, stepping reluctantly back.  “There was this pollen mister - it must have had some sort of timer on it, and then these alien hunters showed up.  I’ve been leading them around all night - they can’t be far.  We need to go.”
“I’m not sure my jeep will work, and I don’t exactly have a clear fix on that - it’s just a stretch of road.  I’m not even sure what the mile marker is.”
“Michael didn’t pick up, do you think he and Isobel…?”
“One way to find out.  You ready?”  He held out his hand, which she took without hesitation.  Max closed his eyes, concentrating.  “I think I can hone in on Michael.”
There was the sound of footsteps from outside in the front area of the building..  “They’re coming.”  She warned him.
“Hold on.”
There was a flash of green light before bullets peppered the building, shredding through the old wooden walls of the structure.  When the door was kicked open by their pursuers a moment later, nobody was inside to be found.
-----
It had seemed like such an easy, simple task.  Domestic even.  Isobel had threatened them for proof of a tree, and it had turned out Michael had never had one of his own before.  It was the perfect opportunity to start a new tradition for both of them.  Thousands of people managed to do such a simple task without problems annually.  It had started out well enough, despite Michael’s teasing and complaints.  They’d gotten their permit.  They’d gone to one of the indicated areas on the maps to choose a tree.
In retrospect, Max and Liz not getting in contact before morning should have made obvious what was about to happen, Alex admitted to himself as he squared off with two armed gunman with an axe. Michael had stopped the first set of bullets mid-air with his mind, but their assailants seemed to be gearing up for round two  Their lack of reaction to his telekinesis had all sorts of alarm bells going off in Alex’s head.  Alien hunters, his mind provided unhelpfully.
“We just want the alien.”  One told him.
“Over my dead body.”  Alex replied.
“Your funeral.”
Michael caught the second set of bullets, but Alex saw one pull out a canister, and cursed. He had no doubt some of the orchid pollen was inside.  Before he could move, though, a green flash filled the area.  When the light faded, Max and Liz had appeared out of nowhere next to them.  It wasn’t the first time Alex had seen one of them teleport, but it was rare and drained a lot of their energy.
Their sudden appearance caused the two men to freeze, and Alex switched his grip on the axe - tossing it at the man with the canister.  He dodged, dropping it harmlessly to the ground, unopened.  There was a brief moment where he wondered if they would try to shoot again, but apparently the loss of the pollen and the appearance of more opponents was more than the job was worth.  They took off in the opposite direction, disappearing among the trees with an ease that Alex knew he’d have to revisit later.  It spoke of skill some of the previous alien hunters had lacked.
“Okay, so you’re throwing axes now… is it a bad time to mention that’s pretty hot?”  Michael said, his tone only partway joking despite the situation.
“Terrible timing, but remind me to revisit the thought later.”  Alex shot back, still keeping one eye on the trees around them for another attack.
Max suddenly sagged, stumbling slightly, and Michael jumped forward to help catch him.  “How far did you teleport?”
“Twice.”  Max admitted.
“Twice what?”
“He teleported twice.”  Liz provided.
“Shit, Max.”  Michael took his weight.  “You get attacked too?”
“Last night on the way home.”  Liz answered again, taking Max’s other arm - more to be near him than take any of his weight off Michael.
“Isobel.”  Max spoke up.
“You aren’t teleporting again, and I can’t take four of us on my own.”  Michael told him.
“I can call her.”  Alex offered.
“No signal.”  Liz told him, already checking her phone.
“Let’s just take the truck.”  Michael cut in.  “You can lie down in the back.”
Alex grabbed the Axe back up, along with the canister - he wasn’t about to let the alien hunters retrieve the weapon and use it later.  “Let’s go.”
-----
Two police cars were outside of Isobel’s house.
Despite his exhaustion, Max was the first one in through the door.  “Isobel!”
Isobel turned from where she was talking to Sheriff Valenti.  “Hey, you okay?”
“What happened? Are you okay?”  Max asked, looking her over for injuries.
“It was a break-in attempt, but your sister handled it before calling us.  Johnson has the perp and is going to take him to the station right now.”  Sheriff Valenti told him.  “I should have hired your sister instead of you, Evans.”
“Funny.”  Max told her.
“I’ll call you if I remember anything else.”  Isobel told her.
“We’ll let you know if we learn anything on our end.”  Sheriff Valenti assured her, before leaving.
“What happened to your head?”  Isobel noted the injury he’d received when he crashed the jeep.  It was a small bump, and he hadn't really paid any intention to it so far.
“We were in a car accident.  They used some sort of pollen time bomb on Max.  I had no signal last night and Michael didn’t pick up his phone this morning.”  Liz put in.
“Someone took me to the middle of the wilderness with poor reception to chop down a tree.”  Michael protested.
“There was also alien hunters.”  Alex pointed out.  “They must be from the last project.  They seemed pretty trained.”
“Luckily nobody was badly hurt.”  Max reassured her.
Isobel glared at Michael and Alex.  “So, you weren’t planning on getting a Christmas Tree.  Were you?”
“That is what you got from all of this?”  Michael asked her.
“I learned everything else from the mind of the guy who broke in.  He was mostly a grunt, but I got the gist of the operation, including headquarters location.”  Isobel shrugged.  “You two, though.  I bet you didn’t even get the tree.”
“Unbelievable.”
“Who has Grizabella by the way?”  Max asked.  He’d been too tired on the trip down to notice his surroundings.
“Bella.”  Michael and Liz corrected in unison.
“She’s in Michael’s truck cab.”  Alex volunteered the information.
“That’s right.  Isobel gave Bella to Michael and Alex.”  Liz grinned.
“Now wait a minute.”  Max turned to her.
“Hey, Alex, Max is coming to Christmas Carol Karaoke.  So you and Mikey have to come too.”
“Seriously, Max?”  Alex gave him an exasperated look.
“Why do I have to come?”  Michael asked.
“Because if I have to suffer, so do you.”
“Hey, attacks by alien hunters are extenuating circumstances.”  Max protested.
“No, you said she’d keep her until we got home, it absolutely counts.”  Liz disagreed.
“Which reminds me you owe me about seventy-five dollars in broken ornaments.” Isobel cut in.
“Why can’t you just string popcorn like a normal person?”  Max asked her.
“Let’s get out of here while can.” Michael suggested to Alex.
“We want our cat back.”  Liz reminded them.
“You aren’t getting out of this just because of alien hunters.”  Isobel turned back to them.  “Tree.  Pictures.  Tonight.”
“We should probably compare notes.”  Liz mentioned.  “We can all get trees tomorrow.”
“Fine.”  Isobel relented.
“We already have a tree.”  Max pointed out.
“You have a big house.  You can have two.”  Isobel crossed her arms, smiling at him pointedly.
“Plenty of room.”  Max relented.
“Told you she was scary about this.”  Michael whispered to Alex.
“I didn’t catch that.”  Isobel glared at him.
“We should have eggnog while we discuss this.”  Michael suggested instead, and Isobel shot him a glare.  “Or hot toddies?”
“I have the makings for both.”  Isobel assured him, turning toward the kitchen.  “C’mon.”
“I’ll get Grizabella and Buffy.  Keys?”  Alex held out his hand to Michael, who handed them off.
“I’ll help.”  Liz volunteered.
‘Traitor.’  Max mouthed at her from behind Isoble’s back.
‘I love you.’  She mouthed back, before following Alex out to Michael’s truck.  “Did you really take Michael to cut down your own Christmas tree?”
“Yes, and it would  have been a great morning if we weren’t attacked.”  Alex told her.  “How was the lame date to view Christmas lights?”
“It wasn’t lame, it was sweet.”  Liz protested as he handed her Bella.  “We had dinner at the YellowBrix restaurant, we snuggled on a boat. We got poinsettias, which turned out to be an orchid pollen time bomb, but it’s the thought that counts.”
Alex grinned as he picked Buffy up and shut the truck door.  “So alien hunters aside, it’s a great start to the holidays.”
“Alien hunters aside.”  Liz agreed, as Bella bumped her forehead pointedly against her.  “C’mon, Bella, I’ll let you knock over Aunt Iz’s tree again as revenge for the reindeer antlers.”
“Oh, so you stalk Isobel’s social media, too.”
“Doesn’t everybody?”

Oliver Knight A, E, H, K, O, P, S, and W {Headcanons}
Fandom: Ikemen Revolution
Character: Oliver Knight
Genre: Headcanons! Sfw
Warnings: None
Intended Gender Audience: Female Audience
Word Count: 904 words
Authors: @mythiica and @kiarigirl-blog
Requested by: anon!
Other comments: Enjoy!
A = Affection (How affectionate are they with a s/o?)
While he often time calls his s/o names like dummy or idiot, Oliver is actually quite affectionate towards them
He doesn’t actually think that his s/o is a dummy or idiot, he’s just not the best at describing his feelings
He enjoys holding his s/o as she sleeps, holding her hand when they go for walks and even brushing her hair when they are alone
He will tease his s/o to see her blush and pout (it’s one of his favourite things to get a rouse out of her)
E = Effort (How much effort do they put into a relationship?)
Oliver’s dual nature makes it hard for him to put maximum effort into the relationship (he is embarrassed by his younger persona, even if his s/o tries to comfort him)
During the night, he can really devote himself to his s/o and their relationship
He understands just how weird it appears to everyone when they see him with his s/o during the day, and therefore prefers that he and his s/o spend the day together and alone
H = Hugs (Do they hug their s/o? How often?
He loves hugging his beloved, however he won’t admit it. Like ever. Even if his s/o is in the process of hugging him
The only person to see him hug his s/o during the daytime is Blanc
At night, it is not uncommon to see him hugging his sweetheart
His strong arms hold them close as often as possible
He’s not jealous or possessive, he just loves having them in his embrace because they’re warm and comforting
He especially adores hugging his s/o while they sleep because he can nuzzle them gently before falling asleep as well
K = Kiss (Are they a good kisser? Do they like to kiss? How often do they try to kiss you?)
Oliver had no real experience kissing before meeting his s/o, but that only made him want to be a better kisser
He tends to avoid kissing his s/o in public, unless it’s fast and slightly hidden
This doesn’t mean that he doesn’t like kisses, in fact, it’s the opposite – he just needs some time to get used to having a s/o to pour his affection into
Because of this, he prefers to give his s/o forehead kisses, bunny kisses, kisses on the tip of their nose, or kisses to their hands
His soft lips and tender technique give the sweetest kisses
However, once he gets them alone, those kisses turn passionate quickly and they might or might not include wandering hands and a bit of tongue (but this is sfw headcanons, so we can’t get into much detail about it 😉)
O = Out of the Ordinary (What’s something they don’t normally do with/for their s/o?)
Oliver loves that his sweetheart is a big piece of his life but there are two things that he won’t share with them
Gunsmithing being the first thing – he doesn’t want his beloved to be involved in the battle between the two armies nor the Magic Tower
As an extension of that desire to keep them safe, he forbids them to be with him when he’s making Fenrir one of his silly guns
The other thing is his drinking – that is the only time he can just do things with his besties, Blanc and Kyle (mainly because he’s probably getting relationship advice for his s/o)
P = Playful (Are they playful in a relationship? If so, how do they play around/mess with their s/o?)
Unlike a lot of citizens of Cradle, Oliver isn’t the most playful guy (in the sense that he’ll joke around)
He likes to keep his feelings locked up and istead acts indifferent to almost everyone
On rare occasion, he will tease his s/o: the occasional petting of their hair as he whispers in their ear is just his way of reminding them that he is older than he might appear
S = Sleep (How do they sleep with their s/o?)
Sleepovers are actually pretty common at the Lapin household
Oliver enjoys watching movies with his sweetheart and has on more than a few occasions fallen asleep with his s/o in his lap on the couch
When they do end up falling asleep together, he has an alarm to wake him up just before dawn.  After the first time his s/o woke up to find young Oliver next to them, he vowed to not let that happen again.  He hates leaving the warmth of his s/o’s body, but what could he do?
W = Wild Card (Get a random domestic headcanon of the character of your choice)
He celebrates their monthly anniversary as a silent way of reminding his s/o that he loves them and does not take the time they have together for granted
Oliver enjoys gifting his s/o with small trinkets of affection
Gifts are usually things that he’s invented – a small locket with a magic crystal inside and a picture of him and his s/o, a music box that plays his s/o’s favourite melody, a compass in case his s/o would ever get lost, a compact mirror with his and his s/o’s initials engraved into the metal

“You look really tired” or “You think you’re funny” for Kyman 👊🤧
Kyle hates the part of himself that cares deeply for Cartman. Because he does care about him; he can admit that now that he’s matured and all but abandoned his steadfast conviction that he must despise him, though he definitely resents the bastard. Regardless of it all, he knows deep down that even if he’s not fond of him, he’ll always want the best for him, and he’ll always hope to one day see him become someone happier, healthier, and maybe even some semblance of normal, and it pisses him the hell off, because no one deserves to be stuck caring about the well-being and future of someone like Cartman. He supposes someone has to keep an eye on him - he just wishes he didn’t feel bad for him.
But more than anything, it bothers him that Cartman knows he cares about him, and has made a hobby out of exploiting his sympathetic nature and taking advantage of his unending desire to see Cartman evolve into a better person. It upsets him that time and time again, he gives the asshole the benefit of the doubt, and time and time again, Cartman makes him regret it.
So when Cartman sits down for lunch on Monday after having ghosted them all weekend, looking absolutely awful, like he hadn’t slept in a week and had spent that time crying, too, Kyle doesn’t immediately ask what’s up, because he’s sure it’s a ploy for attention and pity, and he won’t give Cartman what he wants this time.
The other boys follow suit; they’re all tired of Cartman’s dramatics, too.
It’s only after Cartman doesn’t prod them to inquire about his state, doesn’t even touch his meal, which is absolutely unheard of, that Kyle gives in and says, “Cartman, is everything okay? You look really tired.”
Craig and Token glare at him, clearly irritated with him for engaging, and Craig goes so far as to gather up his lunch and tug Tweek away by the hand, but Kenny glances over from the nudie mag he’d been looking at with Clyde, peering worriedly at Cartman. Stan’s munching away at a salad - Wendy’s got him eating vegan again, and Stan’s decided salads are his safest option - but he’s watching Cartman, too. It’s some consolation to Kyle that he’s not the only one who does care about Cartman, though Stan and Kenny have frequently criticized him for being too invested.
“Had a bad night,” Cartman says quietly, and his voice is so small and sincere that Kyle’s instantly sympathetic. If this is another scheme, he’ll kick his ass, but by the looks of it, for once in his life, Cartman’s serious in his misery.
“You wanna talk about it, big boy?” Kenny asks him from where he’s sitting to his right. He’s handed Clyde the magazine so he can focus wholeheartedly on Cartman, though Kyle catches the way he’s eyeing Cartman’s untouched chicken nuggets.
Cartman does, too, apparently. “No,” he replies moodily, before pushing his tray towards Kenny. “You can have them. I’m not hungry.”
Kenny actually hesitates before digging in, apprehensive where he wouldn’t usually be, because of Cartman’s bizarre behavior, but he starts chowing down quickly enough.
No one knows what to say, so they carry on with their lunches, though there’s an air of awkwardness due to Cartman’s mopey presence. He’s horribly quiet; doesn’t even pitch in when Jimmy and Clyde start arguing about early 2000s boy bands, though he’d typically jump right into a conversation like that with some obnoxious spiel about NSYNC’s superiority.
Kyle eats his sandwich solemnly and watches him out of the corner of his eye, even as Stan shows him a series of dumb memes mixed with cute animal videos; the usual lunch procedure.
By the time the bell rings and everyone stands to go, Cartman’s demeanor hasn’t changed, and he remains seated as the lunch room begins to clear out. Kyle starts to leave with Token to their AP Bio class - but then he stops and looks at Cartman, and something compels him to stay with him. “I’ll catch up with you,” he tells Token, who frowns a little, searching his face briefly, before simply saying, “Okay, dude,” and taking off.
Kyle sits down at the table, straddling the bench. Cartman’s slumped over, head in his hands, but Kyle’s weight makes the seat squeak, and he glances up. “What the hell do you want?” he asks, and his pouty tone is familiar, but so much more legitimately dejected than Kyle’s used to. He’s even got tears in his eyes; real ones, not performative ones.
“What’s going on with you, Cartman?”
The fat boy heaves a sigh, and Kyle sees him fiddling with his hands in his lap, which is something he only ever does when he’s forced to open up and be vulnerable. If this were anyone else, Kyle would put a reassuring hand on his back or arm, something to calm his nerves and show him that he was there for him, but it’s Cartman, and frankly, Kyle’s not willing to let him have that yet.
Finally, inaudibly, Cartman says, “Ralphie died.”
“Oh,” Kyle says. Ralphie was a sickly stray cat Cartman had been trying to nurse back to health for the last month. He’d named him after the Sopranos character because, according to Cartman, he kind of looked like Joe Pantoliano. That had sparked an argument with Kenny, who thought Pantoliano looked more like a French bulldog than anything (”But he’s Italian!” Cartman had yelled, as if that meant something). Then Kyle had pitched in that it was rude to compare people to pets, which upset Stan, who thought any human should be honored to be likened to an animal.
Cartman had been excessively lovey with the cat, so Kyle’s not surprised he’s so upset. Part of him is just thankful Cartman’s capable of grieving; it’s proof he’s not soulless, like the other guys try to convince him he is. Proof he’s not a lost cause.
“I’m sorry, Cartman,” Kyle says gently. The lunch room’s nearly empty, and the few kids left are staring at them as they exit, because their rivalry is decently infamous. The second bell rings; he’s definitely going to be late to class, and somehow, that’s not important to him right now. “I know you really liked that cat.”
Cartman heaves a sigh. “I just - after Mr. Kitty died, I - I missed her so bad, but I didn’t wanna just replace her, you know? It wouldn’t be the same. But when I found Ralphie, I thought maybe it was meant to be or whatever, ‘cause I just found him, on the street, and I thought Kitty wouldn’t feel betrayed about it ‘cause I was, like, doing an act of - of, like, charity, or whatever, you know? And I thought Ralphie was getting better, he was doing super good and he was more cuddly and, and affectionate, we really became friends- but then I came home from skewl on Friday and he wasn’t moving-” Cartman starts to cry, but he covers his eyes with his hands before Kyle can see. That’s how Kyle knows this is the most genuine sadness he’s seen out of Cartman, possibly in all the time he’s known him; his fake cry is hysterical shrieking paired with crocodile tears, but currently, he’s crying very quietly, sniffling a bit, hiding his face away, and it tugs at Kyle’s heart strings like those ASPCA commercials do.
Abandoning his desire to remain stoic for the sake of his own pride, he puts a hand on Cartman’s back. “Cartman, hey, listen - what if after school, the guys and I take you to the pound to pick out a new cat?”
“Really?”
“Yes.” He’ll have to ask them, but Stan’s always down for an opportunity to be near animals, though it might be hard to get him to leave without taking home every single creature there - and as for Kenny, he’ll tag along as long as Kyle offers to take them out to Taco Bell after.
Cartman rubs at his wet eyes with his sleeves and smiles happily. “I’d - I’d like that, Kahl.”
Then he falls on Kyle and hugs him tight, and to Kyle’s disbelief, he’s not annoyed at being embraced by him like he usually would be. Instead, he smiles and hugs him back, patting him awkwardly on the back once he doesn’t let go after a good thirty seconds. He smells like fruity shampoo and peanut butter, which is better than he usually smells, or maybe Kyle’s just not in the mood to pick out petty things to criticize for once.
Kyle’s typically sort of touch adverse, so if anyone else hugged him like this, he’d definitely be irritated by now - but somehow, Cartman holding onto him like he’s a lifeline just makes his heart swell in a way he’ll lie awake tonight worrying about.

rEEE writers inbound
hey there! i’m rhys. i am 22, live in the ct, and love ooc chatter! my ooc is pretty lax, but i promise my writing is a helluva lot more formal. i write in third person, past/present tense, and paragraph form. im not a rapid-fire writer, and won’t be able to constantly get replies in every day (i can get responses in anywhere between every couple of days to a week or two). however, i will ALWAYS put tlc into all of my posts and characters! i write anywhere between 300-900 words. it’s definitely alright if you don’t feel up to that amount at any given point, but i do appreciate keeping it somewhere in this range. im very wordy, and can spew out a novel if im excited enough lmao
my limits are pretty general; i will not do beastiality, pedophilia, vore, or scat. i can indulge in a variety of kinks, but if it’s a little much for any average person, i’m less likely to write it out (i.e extreme ddlg or adult babies, furries, extreme pet play, etc.) but i can be persuaded to lightly touch on certain kinks as long as they’re not 10000% filth lmao i cannot, and will not, do seme/uke or top/bottom dynamics. absolutely not. queer relationships shouldn’t be defined by whose taking the D. i dont want to interact with squeamish little femboys, or awful macho men with downright rapey tendencies. versatility is key, and power struggles are what i live for! i will, however, indulge in BDSM dynamics with certain plots— although, domination isn’t always about penetration, you know?
give me characters with aspirations, hopes and dreams, and crushing past experiences that flesh them out into who they are. no one is perfect, and we all have things that rear their ugly heads in the dark. problematic characters, male or female or anything in between, are everything. i love lgbtq+ characters, as i am part of the community myself, and will almost always be more inclined in writing queer characters. not to say i won’t write for strictly straight pairings, m/f, but usually i am iffy when approached with it if i am just meeting you.
i write for all genders, ethnicity, and orientations! you can find a few writings examples of mine here. i am pretty welcoming of most things. smut, of course. some kink a little out there that you want to suggest? let's do it, dude. i am super OOC friendly and i am pretty much a garbled mess when i get to know you!  i’m a social person— i feel like a burden if you’re not into chatting with me, so please, if you’re not looking to be both a writing partner as well as a friend, i might not be the gal for you. i am open to crooked relationships, ones that don't function right, dark/morally corrupt characters, unconditional love, etc. my interests fluctuate! i am down, 24/7, guys! i only roleplay over email, but will ooc chat over discord or hangouts! here's a list of fandoms and pairings below that i am looking to write for atm. i do have many more, but these are just the ones off the top of my head!

Onto original plots!
——————
  Office romances/BDSM/Friends with benefits-turned-lovers
okay, so, i had this type of roleplay with someone a while back. maybe more than two or three years back that i fell out of contact with and i could never really get it out of my head because it was probably one of the best character-building stories i’ve ever taken part of. :’) i don’t remember their name, but i do hope they’ll contact me again if they ever see this. while some of this may seem specific, none of it is concrete and i promise i am very easy to get along with and very accomodating! the plot i remember had three different relationships— completely different people, with different lives and different worlds, with only one common thing between them being that they work in the same building. we can do all three, or we can do a few, or even  one! i dont mind.
**pairing A; M/F preferred (lol i know broke my own rule, but i adore femdoms! extra: please come with an open mind. this is not a 50 shades AU, and i do not want it to be.) this one is between a CEO and an intern in their senior year of college. The CEO is a femdom, and freshly out of divorce, takes a liking to the clumsy intern who’d spilled coffee on her more than once. The intern has never been in a relationship with an older woman, let alone one running a multi-million dollar company, but hey, isn’t that the dream for some broke twenty-something down on his luck? She introduces him to BDSM, and while he’s hesitant, the idea is as exciting as it is frightening. He accepts her offer— while it’s difficult at times, he begins to learn more about her. Her ex-spouse, her young child, and her unwillingness to develop a sincere relationship with him. She’s had subs before, and while she tells him he isn’t disposable, he begins to feel it was the truth. He grows to have feelings for her, and while she isn’t too keen on admitting it, the feeling is mutual. I’d love to explore their dynamic in and out of sex, and the conflict between the intern and her ex-spouse. I love age gaps, and think it would be awesome to see them develop over time to find common ground to establish a personal relationship and trying to even out their power imbalances. I don’t mind playing either the CEO or the intern, but I am leaning more towards the CEO. :V**
**pairing B; M/M preferred (this one is waaay more gritty and more dub-con than anything so please beware!) this one is between two higher-ups who have been butting heads for years— and occasionally, sexual tension neither have acted on. A is a snarky, openly gay man, and probably what some would consider shallow and noncommittal. B is a brooding, closeted ‘by the book’ type well into his thirties, and refuses to engage in anything sexual with men despite his obvious attraction; B has younger siblings he takes care of as well as his mother, and being the oldest son and only provider, hasn’t done a thing for himself in twenty years. A lives completely alone, complete with a bachelor pad and, the influx of flings that went nowhere past sex, and has risen to the top with his own sheer will. they have conflicting motives, and while both of them have an intense hatred for each other, they’ve never engaged in physical altercations in fear of losing their jobs. one day, A jabs a little below the belt, and finally, B starts swinging. this fight turns into something way more heavy in the company parking lot. what happens between them in the long run is something desperate, needy, and longing for real affection. it began as a mindless need for sex, angry and mean and formal, with B being especially unwilling to ‘give up’ his masculinity and ever be on the receiving end in fear of losing the control he needs to keep this up. i’d love to see them begin to see each other in a different light, and changing each other for the better. i’d also love to see A showing B that sex doesn’t have to be meaningless, and that he doesn’t need to fear letting A be in control. And B showing A that commitment isn’t as terrifying as it may be, with them gradually going from rivals, to friends with benefits, and eventually lovers. i, again, don’t mind writing for either! **
**pairing C; F/F preferred. (aaa this pairing is way more fluffy and sweet, with hurt/comfort as a stable of their dynamic.) this one is between two small-office employees in the company. A is fairly tame at work in order to support her sibling(s), of which she has adopted from her father’s custody years ago. she is fairly confident with her sexuality, and while not being the type to frequent clubs, is dragged along by a few friends and there, meets B. B is a young woman who just recently got out of a relationship with an abusive ex fiance— B has only ever been with that man, and was never confident in exploring her sexuality due to a religious upbringing and parents who were dead set on traditional values. she’s never strayed from her ex, and while he wasn’t faithful or remotely good to her in return, she was heartbroken with their split. months after, he returns to the city and B’s close friends decide to take her out on a girls’ night to make her feel better— B coincidently sees her ex, and feeling childish and unattractive, heads off to the bar to get a drink. she’s nowhere near a drinker, and just before she does drown her sorrows, is hit on by A. while initially shocked, B is flustered and finds herself immediately attracted to A. they have a one-night stand, and while B believes that A would just leave in the morning, A instead lays with her until she wakes up, and leaves her number. B is too anxious to text her. they bump into each other at the elevator that Monday. they agree to be just friends, until B knows what she wants. A is willing to wait. B might have a crush, and A is intent on building B up to love herself and her body. i would overall prefer to write for A, but if you’re dead set, no prob!**
  Serial killer/1960’s/Small town sheriff
no preferred pairing! would love, love, love to see something between a serial killer and a small town sheriff in the mid-to-late sixties. we could make up a new little town, or find one to our liking! A is the sheriff who had been born and raised in this town with a good home life, loving parents, and a steady moral compass, albeit trapped in a loveless marriage. they know everyone, and every nook and cranny of the place like the back of their hand. this is the type of place where people don’t have to lock their doors at night, or constantly watch their kids when they’re out in the yard playing. that is, until people start going missing and horrifyingly mutilated bodies began to pop up around town. B is a well-liked baker in town; known to be genuinely friendly and kind, B has a very corrupt past. both of their parents were heinously abusive, and as a child, B developed sociopathic tendencies. B was inherently spiteful of the town and the people in it, for leaving them to rot in hell for eighteen years, and for never reaching out. B formed a god complex, his intentions to ‘purify the corrupt’. they keep tabs on almost everyone in town, and the victims they do take are put in the soundproof basement of his home to be ‘baptized’; tortured, beaten, and mutilated beyond recognition. A and B are friendly with each other as A comes to the bakery every morning, with B’s motives completely unbeknownst. one night, A, frustrated and pissed from the dead ends of the case of the decade, decides to head to the bar and relax. B is the one face A didn’t mind seeing that night, and one thing lead to another, with A and B in a dark alley getting each other off— i definitely see this as B grooming A to be a complicit pet, and when A gets closer and closer to figuring out who the killer is, he forms a deep connection with B. B develops a possessiveness over A, along with that sense of ownership he’d established between them. B manipulates A, coerces him into a false sense of security, and eventually— A finds out, and while B initially thinks to kill A, A is corrupted by B and forms some kind of stockholm syndrome for B. it’s up to A on whether or not they turn B in, or cover the killer’s tracks. B, despite his very sick and repulsive nature, develops a true infatuation for A, as close to love as they were ever going to get, and A is desperate enough to please B that they’ll do anything to not disappoint them.
  Post apocalypse/decades later/immunity
no pairing preferred! the plot I had in mind is loosely based off of a video game called "The Last of Us", which i am sure most of you have a general knowledge of! (definitely check it out if you don’t :O it’s a great game!!) the prompt i was shooting for goes something like this; in a post-apocalyptic world where a pandemic has killed off most living species, character A is a lone wolf with little to do with other people that don't benefit him, except for a select few. A is especially rough around the edges, as he's lived through some sick shit and lived to tell the tale. A had once been part of a group dedicated to finding a cure, but things went south, and a lot of people died. A had a close bond with the leader of said group, and coincidentally they were the only survivors. their past together, having been deeply demented and twisted, caused them to fall out. said leader has rebuilt a new group in the ten years since the last time they'd seen A. character B is the only known immune person alive, and has dedicated their life to being a resource to finding a cure. A and his (current) contact/partner in crime have something taken from them, and are determined to get it back. they do some searching, and are confronted with this group-- they have what they need, but are only willing to give it to them for a favor in return. no one can outrun their past forever. so, this plot isn't concrete. things can be changed, we can do whatever we want, and i am happy to comply to any revisions or suggestions! i'd really enjoy taking on A, if that's alright!
  TREASURE HUNTERS/ANCIENT CURSES/LOVE-HATE DYNAMICS/MODERN
treasure hunters!!!! yES!! think Uncharted or Tomb Raider. an architect/treasure hunter is being funded an expedition to find a lost treasure and they are forced to bring along a reporter in order to receive the funds. the reporter and architect certainly dont get along in the beginning— they bicker, and clash on most fronts. the expedition wasnt meant to be dangerous. what was initially thought to be a simple job turned into something treacherous; bandits, a team of hired hitmen and their leader looking to take the treasure for themselves, and some rather supernatural elements that they both couldnt quite put a finger on. the treasure hunter and the reporter have to work together to get out of this alive, and get to the artifact before someone else does. (the “treasure” is definitely up for debate!! we can chose a real life lost treasure, or just make one up!! it can be anywhere around the world, and everything is at our disposal).
  DEMON/INHERITANCE/HUNTERS/MODERN
character A has an awful time living in the city— alone, and without mom's guidance, completely lost. one day they receive a call about a deceased relative, one they'd never heard of, one that apparently left their estate and everything in it in their will to A. with nothing but the clothes on their back, A took a shot in the dark and drove out to this presumed "estate" come early summer, only to find that it's a mansion in a tiny little town with an eerie vibe and populated by the typical small town churchgoers and farm folk. living in this town was a hell of a challenge; everyone was nice, too nice, and people started to go missing. character B is an exceptionally charismatic, charming person and the only mechanic/handyman in town. A and B become friends, partially, when A needs to fix up the piping in their estate. A stumbles upon the attic one day, and for once, they start to get why this whole town reeked to the roots in weird shit-- their deceased relative was tracking something here in this town, having to do with all of the MIA townsfolk. DR has a board of possible suspects, and at the center? B. A shrugs it off as their relative having been paranoid, but the longer A stays in this town, the more apparent it becomes that DR wasnt crazy. B is, in fact, not the murderer, instead a supernatural being (open for debate! im on the fence with demons, vampires, etc.) on a mission to track down the monster, same as DR. i am so down for internal struggles, sweet gestures, and overall, two people just trying to make it work! i could also see A being hella paranoid that B is the monster, and maybe tries to throw cloves of garlic at them only to realize thats not exactly how this monster hunter business works lmao
  DEPRESSED WRITER/YOUNG MUSE/between 1920’s-1960’s/sex, drugs, & the american dream
m/m preferred! A is a severely depressed middle-aged man believing his life has been wasted. his wife left him with their child at her hip, his career was in a rut, and he had nothing left to live for. opting for suicide, he goes out one evening to purchase a bottle of gin to down with a handful of prescription sleeping pills when he returned to his apartment. instead of going directly home, he’s swept in by the music in an underground club for queers. there he meets B; all encompassing, angel faced, and the only person A didn’t know how to look away from. B is a former US Navy Seal, aspiring musician, and avid indulger of the human body— A stays a little too long, owlish and red, and after the show, B approaches him with a cattish smile. they spark a friendship, and A is thrown down the rabbit hole when B introduces him to his social circle, filled to the brim with drag queens, junkies, queers, and the overall unusual— he integrates into this community, his contemplation of suicide only a distant memory, and begins to find himself extremely attracted to B. he lights a fire in A, something dangerous and unquenchable, and A finds himself drawn in by the unpredictability. A embarks with B on a journey of self exploration, passion, and inevitable love in a world that scorned the oddities of human attraction and anyone who dared to be free.

A special haven chapter 2
Chapter 1: https://sanderssides-fics.tumblr.com/post/161948293942/a-special-haven-chapter-1
Tw: hospital, ADHD interpretation, multiple issues.
Tags: @analogically-prinxiety @the-prince-and-the-emo @princeyandanxiety @softlogic @polysandershell _____2______
Anxiety spent a little while in his room still, just looking around. Posters coated the walls and there was another of Logan’s ties on a hook near the door, the magenta one Anxiety had once complimented Logan on.
The tie he had with him last night was wrapped around his wrist like it was a bracelet. Anxiety finally decided to leave his room when the door opened, it closed behind a tall man with dirty blonde quiffed hair and a suit on. “Ah hello Anxiety, I am Mr.Donnovan the caretaker of this home. I have to go to the hospital to retrieve everyone’s daily medicine,  do you need anything?” Mr donnovan had a strong southern U.S. accent. Anxiety shook his head No, not ready to open up to him, what he wanted was pain medicine and Logan.  “Not even your nurse?” Mr. Donnovan questioned, Anxiety looked at the tie and then held up his wrist, pointed at the tie and nodded. “Okay hun, I’ll be back in half am hour. Maybe you should socialize”.
Anxiety didn’t leave the room for 5 minutes after that. When he did, he wish he hadn’t.  The walls were a bright yellow, the carpet an unnatural grey, the lighting was flickering in one spot, and the noise… God,  the noise. It wasn’t that it was annoying… it was that it was loud and a lot of layering. Children laughter, Taylor Swift,  Bruno Mars,  a TV somewhere, the hospital ambulances, teen grumbles, a single scream of ‘shut up!’.
Anxiety went downstairs where instantly he had that 10 year old kid again near him. “Come on! You need food! Why are you here? Did you do something bad? Are you bisexual? Are you agender?” He then gasps in his little question spree as he sits Anxiety down at the breakfast bar and gets him orange juice “O M G are you gender fluid?” They asked.
“I’m not any of those” Anxiety spoke slower and quieter  than the kid.
“Oh okay! That’s cool! Do you like the juice? Vander made it at 3 this morning!” The kid beamed “I’m Elliot! I have ADHD, I get tired a lot and distracted. It’s a really weird case because I’m not like other kids but I’m not exactly different yknow? My parents are in huggy shirts, they laugh a lot. I think the huggy shirts and pillow rooms make then happier than I do” Elliot got sad for a moment “Oh well!” He beamed right back up “if live with my uncle who owns this place! They thought it would be easier if I lived here, better eyes on me to make sure I don’t fix things all the time.”
Anxiety helped Elliot take a breath to calm down just as a girl entered the room. “Fresh meat” she mumbled, her ginger hair up in two pigtails held up by ribbons and curled at the ends. She smacked gum and fixed her overall jorts. The white shirt she wore read 'Basic’ in big black cursive letters and it couldn’t have been more right.
“That’s Ash, you won’t see her around much. She’s released tonight, she finally got rid of her illness and gets to go home. Her mom is a buisness woman by the name of Anne,  her dad is a congressman named Steve, she has a baby brother who would 3 years old in a week his name is Allen.” Elliot explained to Anxiety, whom just nodded.
“You don’t need to reveal everyone’s life story dweeb” Ash growled flicking Elliot in the temple. Elliot whimpered after Ash left with a bowl of dry cereal. Anxiety patted Elliot’s head gently, a little Unnatural since he hadn’t done that before. Elliot smiled and noticed Anxiety had finished his orange juice.
“My uncle says your name is secret, you get called Anxiety though because you have bad Anxiety. He said for me not to jumpscare you so you don’t get scared ” Elliot laughed gently. Anxiety smiled a little, Elliot showed Anxiety the rest of the house. The bathrooms and the bedrooms they were allowed in.
“The twins are very cuddly, I warn you” Elliot said as he opened the door slightly and instantly there was two kid on Anxiety’s legs. They rubbed their pudgy 3 year old cheeks on Anxiety’s legs and acted like cats. “Dr.Alice found them on the street with a posse of cats. They’ve acted like this ever since. ” Elliot said. Anxiety knew exactly who these girls were. Dr.Alice told Anxiety about Kit & Kat.
The kids let go of Anxiety when an older teen came out of his room, they hooked on to him as well and the guy laughed and went back in his room without a notice to Anxiety or Elliot.
“That’s Kyle, he only associates with the care takers and the twins. He’s here because he has nowhere else.” That was almost the last time Anxiety saw Kyle.
The door downstairs opened and Mr.Donnovan entered. “Uncle Donny!” Elliot exclaimed and slid down the railing and right into his uncles arms. Anxiety retreated into his room, weird, he felt no way about calling this room his own. He didn’t think he’d mind it here after all. Though he had no idea who this 'Vander’ person was.
There was a knock on the door before Anxiety looked up from his spot in the middle of the floor. Logan closed the door behind him and Anxiety smiled gently at the Nurse. Logan was glad that the only thing disturbed in the room was the sheets. “Hey” Anxiety spoke gently.
“Salutations” Logan said and Anxiety giggled making Logan smile and sit across from him “How do you find the place? How do you feel”
“Its okay, Elliot showed me around… I’m in some pain and Anxiety levels” Anxiety mumbled the last part, Logan moved closer to Anxiety and noticed the tie around Anxiety’s wrist.
“So you have left the room, that’s good. You went with a hyper boy as well. I see you found the tie, I thought it might help you calm down… you know, about being forced into this place even though you said no.” Logan looked down a little ashamed but still he knew this was best for his anxious patient. He gave Anxiety some pain medicine he had in his white coat pocket.
“Its okay, I can see where you came from on the whole safe view  this place is definitely better than with my brother” Anxiety said and Logan nodded in agreement. Anxiety hugged Logan gently to seal his opinion on Logan so that Logan wouldn’t worry as much.
Five minutes of talking about Anxiety’s opinions of the other tenants later and they both were leant against a wall, Anxiety more leaned on Logan’s shoulder though. Logan was Anxiety’s comfort.
“Dr.Alice told me about Ivory, that other nurse, I’m really sorry about her. I don’t know why she did that” Logan said casually.
“Dr.Alice said it’s because you and her dated and you broke up with her because of a… complication” Anxiety said, his head half in Logan’s neck and half on Logan’s shoulder but he still saw the deep blush on Logan’s cheeks.
“Yeah, I realized I didn’t really like her. She wasn’t nice anyways” Logan admitted
“I figured” Anxiety smiled gently, Logan’s watch beeped “Do you have to leave?”
“Yeah, it’s lunch time for you. I’ll come back tonight before my shift is over to check up on you okay?” Logan said as he got up and helped Anxiety up. Anxiety nodded and lead Logan to the door before saying goodbye. Anxiety didn’t like Logan leaving, he didn’t really feel safe anymore.
“Anxiety!” Elliot smiled and took Anxiety’s hand dragging him to a dining room. “Its lunch time! Uncle Donny let me help with it. We are having macaroni, grilled cheese,  and salad!” Elliot was very hyper and kept talking; some how Elliot managed to switch the topic from lunch to roller coasters to the Vander person again.
Elliot made Anxiety sit next to him as Ash and Mr.Donnovan served the food. Most of the kids dove into their food savagely but still neatly. Kyle had came down with Kit & Kat and he was helping feed them their food so they didn’t make a huge mess. Anxiety just nibbled on his food. A peace of lettuce or a corner of bread found their way to his mouth every so often. He was used to Roman taking his food, it would be half way to his mouth and Roman would steal it and eat it then laugh. He was used to one small meal a week from the breakfast club at school.
Elliot kept everyone entertained with stories he heard from 'Isaac’ but most people referred to him as Imaj. Imaj was sitting in the living room, he ate his food there while next to the small terrarium for a gecko or something. Anxiety got up when everyone was distracted and entered the living room. Imaj looked up instantly, he smiled gently.
“You’re the new one, you came in last night. I like your scars” Imaj referenced Anxiety’s wrist, Anxiety hid his wrist against his chest.
“How did you know about those?” Anxiety asked nervously.
Imaj just smiled “I’m Imaj, I am 8 years old and my parents are dead” He said without hesitation, without the smile leaving his face either.
“I’m Anxiety, I’m 16, and my dad is dead. I never knew my mom.” Anxiety said quietly as he sat next to Imaj.
“This is Quiche, he’s 5 months” Imaj held up a small gecko, it was no bigger than the brunettes middle finger. Anxiety smiled at the reptilian creature.
“He’s adorable” Anxiety smiled, he pets the gecko gently.
“Donny says he’s like me. Adorable and all knowing.” Imaj made a mystical face making Anxiety laugh gently. They talked about Quiche and about their time here until lunch was over for everyone else. Then the living room flooded with TV hogs, it got too loud for Anxiety so he covered his ears and speed walked to his room,  when he spun around to close his door he noticed Imaj had followed him.
“Can I come in, please?” The day-dreamy eight year old asked.
“Sure” Anxiety found it weird he felt more comfortable with the 8 and 10 year Olds than with people his own age. Then again, people his own age liked to hurt him outside of here.

Chapter Reviews: January 15-19, 2019 + more stuff on RoD
Desire & Decorum Chapter 5:
Eh, it's okay. I mean, I'm glad I get to dance with Prince Hamid and hang out with Briar and the other love interests. Too bad I couldn't afford to spend some time with Prince Hamid alone, but because I won't get a clue, no huge loss. I'll do it someday, however.
Great. Lady Grandmother strikes back and, surprise, she wants me to go back to Duke Richards. I just think there must be some way to knock some sense into her. What I'm also wondering is how power politics will also play into this story, considering the fact that she talks like her hands are tied or something. After all, Duke Richards has a proper title, direct family connections to the royal family, and the influence to tip things in his favor.
The Heist: Monaco Chapter 7:
This is a fun chapter. I love the banter between Sybil and Anton. It's like they have potential to be a couple or something.
Anyway, working with Sybil was quite fun. It was thrilling to break into Ulrich's house and grab some tools as well as intel. It took me two tries to impress me, but it was worth it. Learning more about her was great as well because it allows me to feel an attachment to her. Here's hoping I can get to know the other crew members as well.
High School Story: Class Act Chapter 15:
Trevor, Clint, and Natalie are just... ugh. Clint and Natalie should stop stalking Rory and start getting a life. I never like them since they first appear. They come across as desperate for meaning in their lives by using Rory even though not everything has to revolve around him/her. It's rather pathetic. As for Trevor, he can get out of my sight because of his hostility towards me.
I'm impressed that Myra is running for president, but I'm wondering who her rival will be and how the election has to do with the theater club. Judging from Skye's horrified reaction, the rival candidate is someone hostile towards the theater club or a generally unpleasant character. My guesses are Morgan Jennings (kinda unlikely because she keeps things to herself for most of the time), Trevor (considering his hostility towards the MC), and Ace de la Cruz from the HSS app.
Regarding Class Act as a whole, it's fairly enjoyable even though the quality isn't super good. I miss my old gang in some ways, but I've learned to move on. Besides, I hate the school club formula in the trilogy because of its repetitiveness. Class Act is fine except that the theater club members except Rory, Skye, and Erin are utter jerks for not believing me in the first place. I hope the next book will be more fun.
America's Most Eligible Chapter 1:
Despite my wariness for this book, it feels so good to be back and see Bianca, Derek, Guilherme (Adam), and Tabitha (Mackenzie) again. Same goes for Jen. I'm already liking Eden for her friendliness despite her argument with Heath. The fact that I get to choose my own title was a fun addition.
Great, Ivy and Vince are back to stir up trouble. A part of me thinks making her a villain is unnecessary because of the nature of the series being a light-hearted reality show. Whatever that is, I'll see if I can get back to her.
As I've said earlier, I'm rather wary for this book because Book 1 was full of broken promises and wasted potential, and I wonder whether the next book will be like this as well.
It Lives Beneath Chapter 15:
Oh, this is intense. After the warning sign that the love interest's fates are determined in this chapter, I realize that this is the point of no return. It's a good thing I spent my diamonds on this book, particularly building up everyone's nerve scores to Tough as Nails, acquiring all collectibles, and befriending all pets. As a result, all four love interests are alive and well, and the tools they have come in handy.
Oh hi Noah! Glad to see you on our side this time. Pity it costs diamonds to recruit him, but it's worth it because I need all the help I can get to keep as many people safe as possible.
Diavolos the horse is back as undead? Creepy. It's a good thing I didn't have to spend diamonds to tame him because Imogen does it if she can still control animals. I guess I have to low-key thank the Society for her power as I keep it with Imogen through high nerve.
As for Astrid's death, I find it karmic in some ways (killing Josephine, manipulating Pine Springs into submission, to name a few), but I'm not celebrating that. After all, she still cares about her daughter and husband despite being a horrible person in general. I'm glad she and her husband have humanity in them while not getting redeemed. The same goes to Pierce and Margaret Sterling in Veil of Secrets. It also reminds me of Jocelyn Wu making more room for her schoolmates to escape in ILITW.
With that said, I have this theory that Kyle Garza and Deirdre Mallory will reappear as zombies, along with Josephine's victims since Pine Springs's founding. After seeing Diavolos as a zombie, I guess it's possible. Another theory I have is that the zombie bears and elks used to inhabit the area on the lake before its creation, though the chances of them being Josephine's first victims are high as well.
In short, awesome chapter! Can't wait for the showdown and to get my hands on the rune armor.
A Courtesan of Rome Chapter 11:
By this point, I'm admitting that I don't enjoy MC's storyline as much as Delphinia's. In fact, MC's story feels rather dragged because of the lack of resolution on playing the senators against one another. To me, the highlight is seeing Victus meet Syphax, and I'm eager to see how it all plays out when they fight.
By the way, why is there the Colosseum? Shouldn't it be on Imperial times instead of Republican times? I get that Pixelberry will take historical liberties to suit the narrative, but the presence of gladiators doesn't excuse this inaccuracy.
Anyway, let's see what the next chapter will be like.
The Elementalists Chapter 14:
No surprise that it was a birthday surprise, but at least Atlas can be properly introduced to the main group. It was a great moment with him.
As for Beckett, I'm not surprised that he's the one using the mirrors, though with good intentions even when he messed up. When he said that joining the group was the worst thing that ever happened to him, I felt really uneasy about that. Shreya nailed it when he said it. I mean, how would you feel if you find out that one of your friends say that being part of the group is a horrible moment of their life? Becca didn't say that, and neither did Victoria or any of the more acerbic love interests except Nick Peralta (Bleurgh!) I might as well switch to Griffin, Shreya, or Aster.
Nevertheless, I still spent diamonds for the premium scene with him. I replayed other books in order to get 30 diamonds, in case it will be steamy. Imagine my surprise when I realize that it costs 20 diamonds instead. Well, it was kinda sweet but also a bit of a bummer that my MC got cockblocked just as things were starting to get hot and heavy. There's always another chance for him.
Speaking of the upcoming attack on Thief championships, I'm becoming more sure that the one up to no good is Everett Merkseyer. So far, he has a unique face and dismisses the idea of incidents during Thief tryouts.
Speaking of Ride or Die, I'm becoming more wary of it. I know that there are people, particularly on Instagram, who are excited for it, but I'm not. It's bad enough that there will be no option to pick gender despite the premise giving no excuse for that. It's even worse when the trailer was released because it shows the MC planning to abandon her perfect life just to follow Logan, which comes across as stupid. Chances are that if Pixelberry continues to shove Logan on the player, I'll just play for diamonds instead. Here's hoping Mona will get enough screen time and proper development.

[INTERVIEW] Jack Black Gets Candid About Music, Movies, and Games
Jack Black and Kyle Gass of Tenacious D are ready to blow the roof off The Bomb Factory in Deep Ellum.
Tenacious D released their last album Tenacious D in Post-Apocalypto last year and will be bringing it live to DFW. The duo is scheduled to perform on October 19th. Doors will open at 7PM and the music will be unleashed an hour later. Cinema fans may recognize the band from the cult movie classic Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny, which followed their legendary journey to rock and roll immortality. Click here to get tickets or find out more information about the concert and venue.
Of course, Jack Black is no stranger to the big screen or music. He headed up the award-winning movie School of Rock and has starred in numerous other blockbuster hits such as Shallow Hal, King Kong, Nacho Libre, and the Jumanji reboots. Since he is heading to Dallas next month, we thought it might be a good idea to catch up and see what we can expect from his debut at The Bomb Factory. Jack was kind enough to agree and what followed was one of our funniest and most open interviews to date. Take a look at what he had to say and also be sure to hear Tenacious D bring the “spicy mustard” to Deep Ellum later next month!
You've received numerous awards for acting in blockbuster movies and you have a successful music career. What would you consider your highest achievement thus far?
Probably School of Rock. That was like my tombstone. That's my biggest gig and my big breakthrough. I've gotten a lot of satisfaction from Tenacious D. Every album is like a baby because that one's all mine. You know? The writing, directing, and starring in each one of those projects.
Are there any projects you've done that you regret?
No. [laughs] No, none that I would ever admit to.
You’ve actually got a new movie, Jumanji: The Next Level, coming out later this year.
That one I definitely don’t regret; that’s for sure.
You’re known for being a gamer. What games are you currently into?
I’ve been playing this golf game on my phone. My phone has ruined my gaming career because I was all about the Xbox until my iPhone took over my life. Now there's a game called W… Is it called WTF? It can’t be called WTF. Hold on let me look… It’s called WGT Golf.
Close enough.
Yeah, it's a great golf game for your phone. It's a great app, but they found a way to suck all the money out of my wallet and it's a pet peeve of mine, all these f*cking phone games. They can be fun, but I'm from a generation where you bought a game and you were done buying sh*t. Do you know what I mean? You could play the whole game for your 50 bucks or whatever it is. Fifty bucks seemed like a lot of money for a game back in the day.
Now, with these little crappy phone apps with the in-app purchases, you can spend hundreds of dollars on stupid ass games. The graphics are not better than my rad Xbox games. They figured out a way to rig the system and I hate them for it. But, in the meantime, I continued to just give them my money because I'm a sucker.
You are spot on with that. I can't think of a truer statement I've heard today.
I keep on meaning to play Red Dead Redemption. I’ve started playing it but I’ve just scratched the surface. I just can't carve out the time in my life, you know. I’ve got kids and I’ve got jobs. I am looking forward to retirement when I'm in the old folk’s home and really catch up on all those video games that I've let fall by the wayside. I’ve got a lot of catching up to do.
Let’s just hope the arthritis holds off so you can do that.
I guess that would f*ck with my gaming. But you know, those Rockstar Games like Red Dead and the Grand Theft Auto don’t require all that much finger strength or speed. It's more like watching a movie. It’s like Bandersnatch where it's a hybrid between a movie and a video game. Did you check out Bandersnatch?
I heard it was awesome. So yeah, I had to check it out.
Hell yeah! That's the future. It's half game and half movie. It won an Emmy for Best TV Movie and I thought that they deserved it, just for the innovation of the choosing your own adventure style. It’s so rad and exciting. Those Black Mirror folks know what they're doing. They’ve got some good episodes too.
Speaking of Hollywood, you apparently made some comments a few years back that offended some folks involved in making superhero movies. Let's go ahead and bridge that void. You were considered for playing Green Lantern before that movie came out. What superhero could you see yourself playing?
Yep. Then they gave it to the pretty boy and you see how that turned out. Great job Hollywood. You sure f*cked that one up. Mine was going to make a billion dollars but, you know, hindsight is 20/20. And I don't begrudge him; I like that guy's new superhero movie as long as he keeps the mask on. Just don't take that mask off because that's when everything gets f*cked. What's his name again? I can't remember his name.
Ryan Reynolds?
Yes. Thank you. Thank you, Ryan Reynolds. I do enjoy the twists and turns that his career has taken because it took him a while to get it going, but now he's on fuego. More power to him. What was the question again? What would I want to do?
What superhero movie would you do or what superhero would you be?
You know, I'd have to be some fat pain in the @ss. Maybe Penguin would be a good role for me or maybe Thing. If you put me in the right muscle suit made of rocks I could be the Thing from Fantastic Four.
I don’t know, man. I’ve seen you do Chris Hemsworth’s workout and you nailed it. Don’t sell yourself short.
Oh yeah! No, I I've got some upper body strength. It's just covered in fat. I'm trying to think if there's any other good fat superheroes, but nothing's coming to mind. Maybe I could be, like, Buddha. That’s not a superhero, he's a religious figure. He's the king of the of the Buddhists. His power could be that he can float around and talk to animals. He's pretty rad. He's real mellow and super Zen.
You may have to work that into your next album.
I'd like to play Buddha. You think they could work him into the MCU?
I don't see why not. It seems, at this point, that they let anybody in.
But I definitely would get in trouble for taking an Asian-American role; that could actually be the end of my career. So, there's that… Do you remember how much trouble Tilda Swinton got in? She got into big trouble for playing that role in Dr. Strange. So, you don't really want to f*ck with that. In fact, next question please.
Fair enough. So, Tenacious D used to be a popular basketball term. Why did you think it was a good idea to apply it as your band’s name?
Well at the time we thought it was hilarious, but in retrospect it was pretty dumb. It's not a very good name for a band, and it's not even really funny anymore. I don't know. Tenacious D. We thought it was just pure gold. It's funny how things somethings age well like a fine wine, but that name for a band is kind of like aged mayonnaise. You don't want to be called Tenacious D. But you know what? It served us well.
It's just among a list of lots of great bands with crappy names. The Beatles? That's a dumb name. I guess because it's a bug and also the word “beat” is in there. So, it's like they keep the beat. Just another dumb name for a band. Another dumb name? U2. It’s just the letter U and the number two. That's some high school sh*t. My point is that it doesn't really matter. The only thing that matters is the content. Do you bring the spicy mustard sauce? If you do you'll be all right.
I read that years ago you would trade Kyle Gass food from Jack In The Box for music lessons. Who got the better end of that deal?
Oh man, that's a tough one. Those music lessons were crucial, but have you ever had Jack In The Box’s seasoned curly fries? Those are some of the best french fried potatoes in the world. I started leaking in my mouth just now. I'm going to call it a tie.
Will we ever actually get to hear the greatest song in the world?
There is a school of thought that it is the song in the Pick of Destiny, Beelzebub. But, you know, it's always a matter of opinion. That's the joke of the greatest song in the world. It's not really a definable thing. It's not really a measurable quantity. Scientifically, it doesn't make any sense to say something is the best song in the world. That’s the joke. It's in the ear of the beholder. One man’s eargasm is another man’s sh*tty music.
For those who've never been to a Tenacious D concert (or even those that have been), what can they expect from your upcoming concert in Dallas?
Well, for those audience members that are old enough to have seen Pink Floyd’s The Wall, that's what it's being compared to. It's a rock opera. It's epic. It's powerful. It's hilarious. It's rated R. Some say it’s rated X but I'm just going to say it’s a really hard R.
Are you keeping your clothes on?
I keep my pants on, but it's all animated. There's, like, a lot of drawings that will be projected on the screens around us. There’s full penetration, but it's like a really bad cartoon drawing trying to do it. It doesn't seem like it should get the same rating as a pornographic film. You get away with a lot more. Have you ever see the movie Sausage Party? You know you never would have been able to do any of that sh*t if it wasn’t a cartoon.
I was thinking that you were going to say Team America.
Aw, the best! You know, there's an unrated version that has an even funnier though sex montage. They went with, like, a full Cleveland Steamer, but only in the not rated version. You won’t get that on TV. You're not going to get that on iTunes or iMovie, but I highly recommend it. That is one of the greats.
I wouldn't call a rock opera, but man can they write some funny songs. Ah, Team America World Police… It all came down to that one weird homeless person, sort of, moral of the story. Know what I mean?
Yes, I do.
Genius and true. You can't really argue with it. They also did it with Book of Mormon. Did you see that show?
That is one that I have not seen.
They crack the code on Broadway, dude. It is the spiciest mustard, every bit as spicy as Team America. Somehow, they made it so we're laughing our @ss off, but then you look over there and there's an 80-year-old grandma laughing her balls off. How do they do it? It's like some kind of magic trick. It's wizardry.
They definitely have found a way to make some hits. Are you ready for few rapid-fire questions?
Yeah.
Favorite singer?
I'm going to go with that Aerosmith guy.
Favorite song?
I'm going to go with that AC/DC song, Shake A Leg.
Instrument you wish that you could play?
Accordion.
Song you hate to admit that you like?
What’s that song again by Chicago? I’m going to have to look it up. F*cking Chicago, dude. They are my guilty pleasure. I want to nail it. [He proceeds to cuss out his iTunes for not allowing him to log in so he could search] If You Leave Me Now, that’s it.
What would a song title be for the story of your life?
Wow… Sh*t, it would be really embarrassing to say because I've had a very charmed life, so it’d be something like Juke Box Hero.
Now I’m going to give you a subject and I want you to tell me the first word that comes to mind.
Okay.
Kyle Gass
Brother.
Nickelback.
What's that one jam? It’s their biggest hit. [Proceeds to belt out a few lines from the chorus of How You Remind Me] Only one word?
I’ll let you slide and use a couple if needed.
This is unfair, but I'm going to go with cheesy. If I only get one word it’s cheesy.
Fair enough. Next topic, pirate metal.
What's that? Pirate metal? One word? Um, arrrggghhh!
I didn't know what that was until about a year and a half ago. Apparently, it's heavy metal music with pirate lyrics. That may be right up your alley.
That's a new genre to me.
Taylor Swift
Trouble.
Do I want to know why?
You be careful if you date Taylor Swift. She's going to write it song about it. She will cause you a whole world of hurt.
The next and last topic, Texas.
I'm going with barbecue.
Good answer.
I want you to spell out barbecue, not just BBQ.
Are you sure you don’t want me to put the word “Bar” and the letters BQ?
No. Come on...
Alright, I'll have to edit it. No acronym. That's all the questions I had for you. I appreciate it.
Absolutely man. Thank you. I’ll see you at the show.

Don’t You Forget About Me
I was hit by a random thought based on the UFO Emporium Gala scene, where Maria isn’t wearing her necklace, and her mentioning her mother taking it off her own neck to putting it on Maria’s when she turned 18.  Which means all her issues started after she stopped wearing the necklace.  Maria isn’t wearing the necklace in 1x11 and part of 1x13.
Contains Miluca/Marichael, but I have their romance end in a really sad way.  The evil plotbunny demanded it!  (No character deaths involved.)  Also contains Liz and Maria being besties, and way more Rosa than originally intended.
Don’t You Forget About Me A Roswell New Mexico Fanfic
The first time it happened was at the UFO Emporium Gala.  There’s drink involved, and a drugged drink as she later learned, so Liz didn’t think anything of it.
“You fit right under his chin like a perfect little zupple piece – pu.. Puzzle piece.”
“Whoa. Puzzle Piece.”
“Puzzle piece.”
They both laughed.
—–
“..and Thompson broke three tables.” Maria was seated in one of the chairs around Michael’s fire while he worked on a customer’s car.  She’d been sharing the story of the latest drunken brawl at the Wild Pony he’d missed.
“Three tables?  He repeated. He’d broken furniture at the Wild Pony before but the tables were pretty sturdy and he had a hard time imagining anyone breaking three.
"Chairs.  Did I say tables?”
“You did say tables.”
“Chairs.  He broke three chairs.”
“That makes more sense. If anyone breaks three tables, I want to be there to see it.”
“If anyone breaks three tables, Guerin, it will probably be you.”
“Ouch. I feel attacked.” He glanced over at Maria, enjoying her amused smile, and the slip up was easily forgotten.
—–
The second time it happened, it gave Liz a pause.  It was a text asking if she wanted ice cream when they met up that night.  She sent back asking if she wanted to meet up again, and if everything was alright.  Maria didn’t text back right away, but when she did it was to say she meant next week, because they’d just met up last night.  The way she phrased it was odd and she asked again if everything was okay.  Maria assured her it was just a crazy month and she kept forgetting what day of the week it was.  It sounded odd, and she decided to talk to her about it the next time they saw each other.
—–
The first time it happened, Michael didn’t think anything of it.  Maria was getting dressed for the day, and she hadn’t thrown him out of her bed yet - which was a vast improvement on previous partners over the years.  “Do you have to get up so early?”
“My liquor shipment is due today.”  Maria told him.  “Someone has to take it.”
“I thought your shipment came yesterday.”  He told her, confused.
“No, it comes on Mondays.”
“It’s Tuesday.”
“Very funny.  You’re not getting me back in bed, Cowboy.”
“No, I’m serious, it’s Tuesday.”  Michael repeated.
Maria picked up her phone from the nightstand, then stared at the screen a moment.  “It’s Tuesday.”
“Did I blow your mind last night?”  MIchael teased with a grin.
“Don’t flatter yourself.”  Maria tossed her pillow at him.
“So, you can come back to bed.”  Michael caught the pillow with ease.
“Or you could get dressed and we could get breakfast together.  Because unlike me, your working hours are daytime.”
“Nobody ever comes to Sander’s Auto on Tuesday mornings.  This is Roswell.”  Michael complained.
Maria leaned in to kiss him, but pulled back when he tried to tug her closer.  “Get up.  Let’s get breakfast.”
He flopped back with a groan of complaint, her slip up of days forgotten.
—–
“So what’s been going on with you?”  Liz asked her when she joined her for drinks at the Wild Pony.
“What do you mean?” Maria asked her, doing her best to look like she didn’t know what she was talking about.
“Maria…”
“I don’t know, it’s just been such a crazy month. Crazy set of months. Things have been slipping my mind. I’ll wake up convinced it’s Monday, and it’s Tuesday.  I’ll think I didn’t pay a bill and go to pay it and it’s paid.  Just little ghings… little things.” She corrected herself.
Liz frowned, straightening.  "You did that before at the UFO Emporium Gala.  Said Zupple instead of puzzle.  Maria-“
"I’m fine. Just overworked and tired, Liz.”
“Okay.  Well, I’m here. If you need anything.”
“I just need a night off.”
“So let’s do it. I’ll get Ros-Romina.” She corrected the name last minute. It was hard to call her sister by a new name but there was no way she could have come back to town as Rosa.  Romina Ortecho - a younger cousin of Liz who resembled her dead sister - that was passable.  In some ways Rosa seemed to enjoy getting a chance to live life as someone new, but it was also hard on them both as well. “And we’ll party.”
“I don’t know, it’s a busy night.  I could get good tips.”
“Workaholic is a disease.  C'mon.”
“Mmmnnn… okay ”
—–
“Y’know, you’re not wearing your necklace.”  Liz pointed out.  She, Rosa, and Maria were on the Crashdown Cafe.  She and Maria were drinking, but Rosa had told them she would watch over their dumb asses.  Despite being eight years younger than her now, Rosa still felt she was the big sister.  Liz would be lying if she said she didn’t like it.
“It’s funny, I never used to forget to put it on, but some days lately I have been.”  Maria admitted.
“I always loved that necklace.”  Rosa mentioned.
“I said that too!”  Liz raised her hand with a small cheer.
“We should be doing something besides lying around up here.”  Maria had opted to lie on her back for a better look at the stars.  The Ortecho sisters were sitting besides the sign.  “Singing.  Dancing.”
“We should go downstairs and make fries and milkshakes.”  Rosa suggested.
“Yes!”  Liz seconded.
“Let’s do it!”  Maria pushed herself up, and went over to tug the other two woman to their feet.
—–
“I think something’s wrong with Maria.”  Michael’s voice was laced with concern, and Liz leaned closer on the counter to keep the conversation private.
“What do you mean?”
“She’s just… she keeps messing up the days.”
“Well, people do occasionally do that, Michael.”
“No, I mean.  Not like saying it’s Thursday when it’s Wednesday.  I mean, she won’t remember things that happened a previous day.  Taking a supply order at The Wild Pony, that we got coffee together the previous day.  Or anything we talked about.”
“Maybe she’s just overworked.”  LIz  suggested.
“I… I don’t know, maybe.  Has she ever… messed up words around you?”
Liz felt her heart stop.  “Like what?”
“Like said one word when she means another, or mix up letters?”
“…Yes.”
“So it’s just something she does sometimes?”  Michael looked relieved, even hopeful.
Liz felt the opposite.  “Only since the UFO Emporium.  Only since…”
“Noah?”  MIchael filled in.  The weight of that name brought them both down.  “Do you… do you think he did something to her?  Wasn’t careful with her mind?”
“Look, I’ll talk to her, okay?”
—–
“Hey.”  Rosa entered The Wild Pony with a bag from the Crashdown Cafe.  “You should really get a better lock on your doors cuz just about anyone could…”  She trailed off.
Maria was seated on a stool of the bar crying.  She looked up.  “Ros-Romina.  People need to stop kipping my locks… picking my…”  She broke off into a sob.
Rosa was there in an instant, tossing the bag on the bar top and pulling her into her arms.  She muttered soothing words in spanish, petting Maria’s hair.  “Tell me what’s going on.”
“It’s happening to me.”
“What’s happening to you, huh?”
“The same thing that happened to my Mom.  It’s happening to me.  I… I can’t remember what happened yesterday.  At all.  And then, there’s more.  There’s words.  Words aren’t making sense sometimes.  It’s like someone is speaking a foreign language, even though I know they aren’t.”
“Shh… shh… we’ll figure it out.”
“But they haven’t.  They don’t know what’s wrong with my mom.  If the same thing is happening to me - Romina, what do I do?”
“Just trust me, I’ve got you.  I’ve got you, and you’re going to be okay.”
Maria clung to her, and let the tears fall.
—–
“We can’t heal damage to a mind.”  Michael reminded Liz.
“Has anyone ever tried?”
“You know we haven’t tried a lot with our powers.  Doesn’t mean we should go trying something like that.  I mean, if this is Noah’s fault, we could make things worse. He understood our powers better.”
“We need answers.”  Liz paced.  “About what all your species can do.”
Michael shrugged his shoulders helplessly. “We don’t have answers to that.”
“Maybe Kyle and Alex do.”  Liz reminded him.
For the most part Michael had avoided the files to Project Sheppard since they’d gotten Max back.  They contained all the worse nightmares Max, Isobel, and he had dreamed up over the years, and some they’d never imagined.  Ten years ago, Project Sheppard had still been sanctioned.  Ten years ago, if they had been caught during the murders, they would have ended up at Caulfield, too.  There were nights that the guilt of covering the murders made Michael wonder if they wouldn’t have deserved it.  Every time he looked at information from the prison, though, he was selfish enough to admit he’d do it again to avoid that fate.
—–
“I’m sorry, what month is it?”  Maria asked as Michael clasped her necklace on her.  “Nn.”  She pressed the heel of her hand to her head.
“The headache again?”
“Yah, don’t worry - it passes.”  Maria assured him, toying with her mother’s pendant.
“I’ll get you some aspirin anyway.”  He pressed a kiss to her forehead.
Maria gave him a pained smile.  “The month?”  She asked again.
Michael looked at her, troubled.  “Beginning of February.”
“Right…”  Maria’s expression was troubled.
—–
“Don’t touch those.”  Liz reminded Michael as he glanced warily at the flowers she now had growing in a greenhouse on the Crashdown Cafe rooftop.
“I feel kinda ill just looking at them.”  He backed away.
“Figuratively or Literally?”  Liz asked him.
“Just figurative.  I handled the pollen before.  But knowing what it can do?  I hate that we’re literally growing something that can kill us.”
“And cure Maria.”
“That’s why I’m not uprooting them and tossing them in the nearest garbage.”
“It’s also possible this may help, but not cure.”  Liz reminded him.
“I know.”
—–
“Liz says you worked with her to help make this.”  Maria had a cup of the tea in front of her on the bar counter.
“Yah.”  Michael admitted.  “Though I’m under strict orders not to touch it.  And definitely not drink it.”
The tea that was fixing the damage that was done to her mind was deadly to the three of them.  Maria had insisted on trying the tea first, but since it was working she’d begun making it for Mimi, too.  Whether or not either would regain the memories lost had yet to be seen.  It seemed they were both able to retain memories again, though.  And the confusion had faded.
The flowers in the necklace had prevented damage to Mimi until she’d removed it at Maria’s graduation.  And, likewise, Maria had been fine until she had spent time not wearing it.   It truly had protected them from danger.  Maria had promised her mother to never take the necklace off again, and Rosa was working on making a different one for Mimi from the flowers they now grew.
“So be sure not to accept drinks from strangers.”  Maria lectured him.
“Why do you not want me to have any fun?”  Michael teased back.  When she gave him a warning look, he sobered.  “So you don’t remember anything after the Gala?”
Maria shook her head.  “It’s all just blank.  Months of memories just gone.”
Michael nodded, looking away and taking a deep breath.  “Well, maybe they’ll return.  Y’know.  Once you drink enough.”
“I hope so.  I really want my mom to get her memories back, y’know?”
Michael nodded, and stood up.  “Well, I’ll see you around.”
“No doubt causing bar fights in my bar.”  Maria accused.
“Yah, I… um, don’t really do that anymore.”  Michael confessed.
“Oh?  Wow, what did I miss?”
“… a lot.”  Michael admitted.  “But, um, mostly I just had some help getting my act together.”
“Well, that’s good, right?”
“Yah… yah, it’s good.”
“Hey!”  Rosa bounded in, carrying Crashdown Cafe Bags and a drink carrier.  “Who wants Milkshakes and fries?
“Yummy!”  Maria held out her hands.
“I should go.”  Michael turned to leave.
“Nope.”  Liz, who had followed Rosa in,  linked her arm through his.  “You’re staying.  Everyone is coming over for a party.”
“Is that so?  Did I volunteer to host this?”  Maria challenged her.
“Absolutely.”  Rosa told her.
“She’s lying.”  Michael assured her.
“Well, I never say no to a party.”  Maria grinned.
“That’s the spirit!”  Rosa cheered.  “I’m playing first!”  She wandered over to grab up the guitar from the stage.
Liz glanced at Michael, who shook his head.  She offered a half hug, before tugging on Maria’s hand where she had started on the fries.  “Let’s dance!”
“You bring fries and now you want to dance?”  Despite her words, Maria was already up.
“C’mon, you too.” Liz tugged on Michael’s arm.
“Didn’t you learn about my lack of dancing skills in Texas?”  He reminded her.
“Oh, yah, they’re worse than Max’s, but it still gets you out of nothing.”
“Yep, this is what happens when you have friends.  You get out of nothing.”  Maria pulled his other arm and together they got him in front of the stage as Rosa began to strum the guitar.

Klance Headcanons cause I have so many (I'm sorry in advance but—)
AHHHH sksksksk
Time to write down my favs.
(A.K.A., all of them cause they are all my favs >W<)
Prepare for a long post. These are just my headcanons (modern au for now) and if you disagree with some, that's your opinion úwú (that sounds so rude ahh).
Anyways, enjoy em, hope you like em! 💜💜
Now onto the headcanons:
... ... yeah
...
*awkward cough*
-HEAD BOOPS TM are a must. They head boop all the time, then stare into each other's eyes and smile softly. It happens all the time. No stopping them. No way whatsoever. They. Will. Headboop.
-Eskimo kisses. A beautiful thing courtesy of Klance.
-Keith can cook, and Lance personally loves it when Keith makes dinner or something, even if it's something super simple just cause Keith seemingly makes anything taste good (theory not tested, better safe than sorry)
-Hunk is both of their wingman's when they are pining for each other and he's loyal to them both, encouraging them to take their time
-Keith is actually super good with kids, and Lance’s heart always flutters when he sees how well Keith gets along with every single one of his younger family members (SO PATIENT UWU >W<)
-Lance loves to cuddle and Keith loves to give Lance light kisses all over his face
-When they cuddle, Lance is always somehow spooning Keith even if Keith is spooning him (basically will wrap his arms around Keith and not let go even though he's actually a bit shorter than his Keithy Boy uwu)
-They play fight/wrestle because they both honestly love it
-When one comes home from work and is obviously exhausted, the other knows exactly what to do in order to give them a good night
-Keith is a teacher assistant/aspiring teacher and he loves kids more than he'll ever admit
-Lance is more a stay at home type of guy, but he helps Keith sometimes and works at a Starbucks (only it's really crowded with workers so he doesn't usually have to work a whole lot, unlike Keith)
-Lance loves to call Keith pet names (Kit-Kat, Keithy boi, Beautiful, Mullet, Light of my Life, Cariño, Samurai, etc), and though Keith doesn't mind it and makes a fake fuss about it, he's been trying to come up with a cute nickname for Lance for a long while (a meaningful one, in other words: My Lotus Flower, referring to the blue versions because Lance has always thought of the flowers as pretty while they are Keith’s favorite flower) (Lance rivalled the nickname by calling Keith “My Precious Rosemallow”)
-They both want to adopt kids (preferably a boy and a girl) and they have the names planned out already cause they are the prepare types of parents-to-be
-(Future stuff) They adopted a girl first and name her Lillian
-(Future stuff) They adopted a boy (named Kyle) when Lillian turned five (Kyle was four when adopted)
-They are honestly the best parents sksksk
-When they go out on dates they have a mutual challenge on who will make the other blush first
-Keith is sometimes bombarded by girls and boys who want to know if they can get his number, and let's just say Lance makes it clear that Keith is taken (same thing happens with Lance, but he always runs over to Keith or just plain escaped anyone interested before Keith can say anything because he is determined to be that boyfriend in their relationship. He will never allow Keith to save himself; he will always save his boi)
-Keith is always flattered when Lance is protectively jelly (though he does get a bit irked when Lance is super duper overprotective)
-Keith loves chocolate and Lance makes sure to get it for him whenever he can
-Lance bought Keith a hippo plush for his birthday and whenever Lance isn't home but Keith is, he'll cuddle with it (he named the hippo Bloop)
-When Keith is the one at work and Lance is home (a far more frequent occurrence), Lance will cuddle with Bloop because Bloop smells like Keith
-They both binge watch Disney movies together and the occasional Horror Movie
-When they watch horror films Lance will shamelessly hide in the crook of Keith’s neck, Keith silently loves it
-Keith is the person of morning persons, Lance is not. Lance will spoon Keith as he walks around the house doing early morning chores, always more or less half asleep. He complains about Keith waking so early but subconsciously likes being able to spoon Keith while Keith does his thing (feels them muscles up while cuddling too). Keith honestly loves it as well because Lance is super clingy and affectionate when he's half asleep.
-Lance loves hiding his face in the crook of Keith’s neck. When he's sad, embarrassed, clingy, or just being normal he will cling onto Keith like a fricking koala and bury his face there (he adds kisses against that spot as well, and to him the skin there is sO SOFT so kissing it affectionately is a bonus for both him and Keith)
-Keith likes burying his face in Lance’s hair, just relaxing against Lance while letting the strands caress his face. Lance loves it too.
-THEY EACH BASICALLY LOVE CUDDLING BUT WON'T DO IT WITH ANYONE BUT EACH OTHER——
-When Lance is sad, Keith will:
1) Make him a nice dinner and dessert
2) Cuddle him in bed or on the couch and let him cry or whatever the heck he needs to do for as long as he likes
3) Will literally drop everything else for Lance, no exceptions
4) Try his absolute best to make Lance smile, in any way possible
5) Coaxes Lance into telling him what's wrong
6) Will gladly offer to murder anyone who makes Lance cry
7) Lance appreciates it all and accepts everything Keith does gratefully, always sure to return the favor
-When Keith is sad, Lance will:
1) Make him some Mac n Cheese (Keith likes Mac n Cheese, reminds him of his dad and he likes it even better when he can share it with Lance) (Mr. Kogane could not cook for his life, unlike his son)
2) Lance will cuddle him, spoon him, kiss him, repeat
3) After repeating that process like ten times, Lance will then hug his bf for as long as he possibly can before blurting out, “WHY IS MY KIT-KAT, MY BEAUTIFUL BOYFRIEND, THE LIGHT OF MY LIFE, WHY THE HELL IS HE SAD?!” then he calms down and says more gently, “Tell me what happened. Spare no details. We both have all the time in the world.” And that always gets Keith to spill.
4) Lance also offers to murder people, which makes Keith laugh every time because they both know Lance can't hurt someone verbally, far less murder them
5) Lance will do everything he can to make Keith smile for the rest of the day, no matter how much time is left, until it's time for bed. Then, he will kiss Keith’s face, his neck, his chest, all lightly and lovingly, and he will do it until Keith goes to sleep, while also running his fingers through Keith's hair
-Lance is low-key obsessed with Keith’s hair. He won't believe Keith actually does anything with it even though he knows extremely well that Keith washes it thoroughly and cares for it
-He loves playing with Keith’s hair, braiding it, carding his fingers through it, nuzzling his face into that mop of silkiness-ness-ness
-Lance also has a teeny tiny obsession with kissing the nape of Keith’s neck. He just loves lifting up Keith’s hair and then placing a soft kiss there.
Lance pick up lines, cause why not:
1: Are you a sunset? ‘Cause I'm enjoying the view
2: My eyes like sweets, and I should know because you are quite a piece of eye candy
3: Are you from Tennessee? ‘Cause you're the only ten, I see (classic shit is the best shit)
4: If I could stare into your eyes for another second I'd gladly do so (not really a pick-up line but it works just fine on Keith)
5: Do you have a name, or can I call you mine?

"Is insurance high for a base acura rsx or just the s-type model?
I'm a 21 year old male with one speeding ticket. I like the design on the rsx, but I've heard insurance is ridiculous on them. Is this true for the both models, or is the insurance rate for the base model significantly less than the type-s model? Thanks for any help!

CAR ACCIDENT WHOS AT FAULT AND DO WE HAVE TO GO THROUGH INSURANCE?
I was in a car accident yesterday a very minor one, the damage to my mother in laws BMW was just a cracked head light, and damage to theres was hardly apparent although the man said there was a tiny bump in door and a scratch. what happened was i was leaving a duel carriageway and on the side lane one lane was closed and a cone was in the road i swerved to miss going into work access (plenty of room as cones missing ETC cos of bad weather) then i pulled straight back out into correct lane having dragged the cone and seeming to leave it in work access... although all this happened in matter of seconds when i pulled back out i have hit the car that was originally behind me in the side door he obviously didn't break in time to stop when i swerved... i have a feeling because it was me that hit him that i am at fault? problem is i don't want to really go through insurance as it means both me and my mother in law will lose our no claims and because it was me driving not my mother in law excess is 600 as i am only a named driver.... I would rather just pay for damages if i am at fault than give my mother in law all the hassle...how much do you think it will cost? only thing is when i said this to the man he said he needs to notify insurance anyway and mine which i have been told will lose our no claims anyway... any ideas info please as im quite confused?""

Driving without Proof of Insurance?
I was recently stopped by a police officer for speeding and when giving him my license and proof of insurance he stated that my insurance had expired. I then received a $550 fine for not having insurance, but not for speeding. I do have insurance, but the proof of insurance is what expired (we searched everywhere and the cards that the insurance agency was supposed to send did not show up). My question, then, is what do I do about this? I was not aware that my proof of insurance had expired (again, not the insurance) and I was freaked out because this is the first time that I have ever gotten pulled over (I'm a college freshman and the car is in my grandmother's name, it was a grad gift) On the ticket do I contest the claim and go to court or do I admit the claim and go to court? At the same time, Smash repair also contacted me regarding the damages(same quote, but can be cheaper if i pay cash to them immediately). Car owner also contact me saying that I have to pay Smash repair directly. Advice on teen car insurance ?
I'm 18, from Ontario and have had my G2 for over a year now. I was in a deathly car accident in january on the highway because of really bad weather conditions, I'm lucky to be okay. The cop didn't charge me because the weather was so bad and there were a number of car accidents that week. However the insurance company faulted me because I spun out first. Its been 2 months and my dad has done nothing but complain about his car being wrecked. He blames me 100% for the accident even though I hit black ice and there was nothing I could do, and he wasn't even there... For my 18th birthday my grandad (his dad) is giving me $10,000 for a car. My dad is making him wait to give it to me and he won't take me car shopping ! And when I do get one he's not putting me under his insurance ! I have to insure my own car at 18 with only a part time job. Is this unfair? Not being able to drive has been a huge hassel. What are the cheapest cars to insure ? Unemployment Insurance for Teenagers?
The business I have worked at for 3 years has just announced they are shutting their doors at the end of the month. I am only 17 but have been told that I am still able to apply for unemployment benefits...which I know next to nothing about. Basically, I've only worked 10-20 hours a week for a wage slightly above minimum. It's just been a part time job for me since I'm a student and involved in several sports and challenging classes. However, I'm still trying to save money for college, so...what do I actually get when I file for unemployment and am hunting for a job? Anything? Sorry if this question sounds ditzy...I don't know much about the workforce.""

Why don't parking tickets affect your insurance?
I used to be amazed at the number of tickets other students used to get when I went to college. Sometimes I'd walk by a car that had been there for at least a day, given the number of tickets that decorated the windshield. From what I gather, parking tickets are not moving violations, so therefore it's not the same as traffic tickets. (Which might explain why they cost so much less.) Is it because parking tickets aren't moving violations, they aren't covered by traffic safety laws and therefore aren't really covered in traffic school? Do parking tickets go on your driving record?""
