A (Not So) Meet Cute: Chapter Five
Tumblr media
Summary: You start your new job at JYP and gain some new friends.
Warnings: Seungmin on Seungmin violence (not really I just thought that was funny), very brief very light angst (self deprecating thoughts), tooth-rotting fluff, probably incorrect assumptions about k-pop music production
The photo directly under the cut has the hairstyles I'm imagining for xdh

The next day turned out to be very mundane. The hiring manager at JYP needed some time to put together your offer letter and contracts, so your first day was a week after you overheard Chan and Seungmin’s conversation. Needless to say, your boss at the bookstore wasn’t very happy about your sudden resignation. Oh well, not your issue now! On the morning of your first day, Chan led you through the massive building to a meeting room where a very stern-looking woman sat organizing a mountain of paperwork into several piles.
“Good morning, Jian. This is Y/N,” Chan introduced you with a hand on your shoulder. Her face instantly lit up with a bright smile.
“Good morning! It’s a pleasure to meet you,” Jian beamed. You nervously bowed to the elder. “Thank you for bringing her up, Chan. I’ll take it from here.”
“Alright, you know where to find us,” he squeezed your shoulder before disappearing down the hall. You perched on the edge of the office chair to the right of Jian.
“So, what has Seungmin told you about the position?” Her grin took on a softer, more motherly feel.
“Not much, to be honest. It’s an entry level recording engineer position, and I’ll probably be working with Itzy, Nmixx, or Xdinary Heroes. That’s about it,” you recalled. Jian shook her head with a chuckle.
“He’s not entirely wrong. You’ll be working with Xdinary Heroes, but you won’t be a recording engineer, not yet anyway,” she explained, sifting through her papers. She handed you two sheets with the job description and expectations. “You’ll be a sound tech. It’s at the bottom of the pecking order, but there will be opportunities to move up.”
“Oh, so Im going to work more with the technical side of things?” You skimmed through the papers.
“Yes! The lead audio engineer, Hyunwoo, has more details than I do. I promise, this is the most boring part to get through.” The next four hours consisted of signing contracts, NDAs, office tour, and very long on-boarding training module. You nearly sprinted from the room when Jian informed you that everything was completed and you could go on lunch.
“Y/N! How’s everything going?” Jisung waved you over to a table that he, Felix, and Jeongin were sitting at in the cafeteria. You trudged over to them, sighing dramatically while dropping into the chair next to Jisung.
“Legal bullshit is so boring. That includes actual lawyers and HR,” you complained, resting your chin in your hands. The three boys stifled their laughter behind their hands.
“Do you know who you’re working with?” Felix asked through his giggles.
“Xdinary Heroes, I’m meeting them after lunch,” you responded. Jisung and Felix shared an almost concerned look, causing you to arch an eyebrow.
“Well the boring part is done. You have an hour, get something to eat and try to relax for a bit,” Jeongin suggested, pulling your attention away from the odd interaction between the other two. But you did exactly that: grabbed some cheap food and sat with the boys with your headphones on so you could zone out. The hour felt way too short. You were already on your way to meet Hyunwoo and Xdinary Heroes.
“Hyunwoo!” Jian called a young man out of a recording booth. “This is Y/N, she’s your new sound tech. I’ll leave you in his capable hands.” She nodded to both of you before leaving you with the engineer.
“Hey, it’s nice to meet you. Let me show you around,” Hyunwoo gestured for you to follow. “Since Xdinary Heroes use their instruments for every performance, their recording process is a bit different than other idol groups.”
“Oh, I didn’t think about that. Other groups just use the instruments during production?” You pondered, looking around at the different rooms in the studio.
“Exactly. We have to make sure their instruments sound the same live as they do in recordings. So the small booth is for vocals, then the big room over there is where they record the instrumentals.” He pointed out the room as he described them.
“Your job is to get the recording equipment set up and broken down. You check that all the wires are connected, that the sound is being picked up from the microphones, basically making sure things are in working order and that the music is actually being recorded.” You nodded intently.
“It actually sounds kind of fun,” you noted as you and Hyunwoo entered the instrumental booth. A drum kit and two keyboards were already set up, but three guitar stands were empty.
“It is. I started out in your position, and I really enjoyed it.” That was very encouraging. Maybe you could follow in his footsteps. He pointed to the guitar stands. “They like to take their guitars back to their dorms. They start in 15 minutes, so they should be getting here soon.
“Hyunwoo!!” A male voice shouted from outside the booth.
“Speak of the devil,” he chuckled. You followed him into the main room where the six members of Xdinary Heroes dropped their bags. “Guys, we have a new sound tech. This is Y/N.”
“Hi,” you waved at the group. Three of them immediately invaded your space, one much calmer than the other two.
“Dude! This is awesome, we won’t have to run our own cables now,” the shortest of the group repeatedly slapped another boy’s shoulder.
“That’s what you’re excited about?” One of the tall members teased, making the other roll his eyes.
“For real! You should be more excited about her being so cute,” a boy with brown hair pulled half-up shot you a wink. You stifled a laugh behind your hand.
“Alright! Guys, relax and give her some space,” the obvious leader of the group ordered. “It’s nice to meet you. I’m Gunil. That’s Jungsu, Gaon, O.de, JunHan, and Jooyeon.” He pointed to each member as he introduced them.
“Some of those are stage names, I’m guessing?” You asked, folding your hands behind your back.
“Yup, my real name is Jiseok.” This was the one that was excited about the cables.
“Seungmin, and his is Hyeongjun,” O.de gestured between himself and JunHan.
“Do you guys prefer stage names or real?” You wanted to start off on a positive note.
“Real names. We’ll be spending a lot of time together, after all,” Seungmin answered. Oh god, you needed to find a way to differentiate the two Seungmins.
“Let’s get started. Y/N, just watch what I do for the first couple days, okay?” Hyunwoo did a double thumbs-up once you nodded.
Tumblr media
A month flew by, putting you in late November. You were making incredible progress at work, swiftly picking up the responsibilities and nuances of the job. Hyunwoo was right, it was very fun working with the instruments, audio equipment, and of course the band. After a week or two of walking on eggshells around the members, you started to relax and now you felt comfortable enough to be a sarcastic menace.
But while you were doing well, Detective Keng had yet to update you about Mr. Cho’s associates. She hasn’t even spoken to you after the initial phone call. Seojoon was a complete opposite to the detective, sending you frequent emails about the status of your case. Your court date was set for mid-December, and you prayed it wouldn’t take more than two or three days. You informed Hyunwoo and the band of your legal situation on your third day. Minho was apprehensive about trusting them with such delicate information, but you felt guilty. Hell, you felt guilty for dragging all of them into this. Any one of them could be targeted just for being seen with you. Despite this, Xdinary Heroes grew protective over you almost as quickly as Stray Kids did.
“Have I shown you this one?” The band was on a fifteen minute break, so you and Seungmin volunteered to buy snacks and drinks from the cafeteria. The two of you paused, moving next to a wall so you could lean closer to see the photo on his phone without blocking the walkway.
“No, you haven’t!” You bumped your shoulder into his. “That’s so cute, she’s going to love it.” He beamed down at you.
“Swipe left, there are 4 other photos. I’m so excited, I can’t wait to– oh hey.” O.de’s attention was drawn behind you. An elbow resting on your head immediately gave him away.
“Hi Seungmin! Have you met O.de before?” You greeted without looking away from the phone still held in front of you, swiping through the other pictures.
“Yeah, we’ve met briefly.” If you were paying attention, you would’ve seen the annoyance on the dark-haired idol’s face. “Nice to see you again.”
“Uhh, you too?” O.de sounded unsure, glancing between you and Seungmin with furrowed brows. “So did you ever decide how to tell us apart in your contacts?” He addressed you now.
“Yup! You have different last names, so both of you have your full names and an emoji,” you replied, turning your full focus to the conversation.
“My full government name?! I thought we were friends.” O.de clutched the fabric of his shirt over his heart, gasping dramatically. You smacked his arm, rolling your eyes at his antics.
“And an emoji! You have a piano and you,” you flicked the hand hanging in front of your face. “Have the puppy emoji.”
“Awe, aren’t you just the sweetest?” O.de cooed and poked your cheek. His eyes met with something behind you, and he quickly withdrew his hand, tucking them in his pockets. “I’ll, uh, I’ll go get our snacks. See you back in the studio.” You furrowed your brows at his hasty retreat.
“Looks like you two are pretty close,” Seungmin commented. You narrowed your eyes at the edge of hostility in his voice. Then it dawned on you.
“Kim Seungmin, did you scare O.de away on purpose?” You turned to face him, knocking his arm off your head.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” he brushed off the accusation. But you saw the way his eyes widened slightly. He bit the inside of his lip, arms crossed.
“Oh, my god you did! Why would you do that? It's incredibly rude.” You scolded him even though he was slightly older than you. His mouth set in a thin line.
“I didn’t do anything,” Seungmin insisted, stepping forward so your back hit the wall.
“Yeah, sure you didn’t,” you shot back sarcastically. “What, were you jealous?”
“No!” He denied it so forcefully that he nearly cut off the end of your sentence. Your eyebrows shot up to your hairline. He huffed, ears turning bright red. “I am not jealous.”
“Seungmin,” you sighed. “Is that why you even joined the conversation? Be honest or I’m not riding to work with you for the next month.” He floundered, opening and closing his mouth uselessly while you stared at him. He closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose.
“Fine,” he growled, dropping his hand to meet your gaze. “I was fucking jealous. Happy?”
“Not really. Why were you jealous?” Your face softened at his embarrassment.
“How else am I supposed to react when another guy is that close to you?” It took every ounce of willpower to bite back your laughter.
“Do you even know what O.de was showing me?” Seungmin shook his head. “He had photos of the gifts he got for his girlfriend for their two year anniversary.”
“Girlfriend?” The confusion and surprise on his face broke the dam, and you dissolved into a fit of giggles.
“Yes! He’s been showing me because he wants another girl’s opinion.” You playfully shoved his shoulder. “Why do you even care about me being close to another guy? I’m friends with your members, and they're all guys.”
“It’s different with my members,” he mumbled, turning to look down the hallway instead of keeping eye contact.
“It’s not, though. What’s really going on?” You waited for Seungmin to finish his internal debate. He drummed his fingers on his arm.
“You remember how we met? I was your fake boyfriend.” You tilted your head, confused at the change in topic.
“Of course I remember.” When he looked back at you, his eyes burned with an intensity you’ve never seen from him. You straightened up, goosebumps rising on your skin.
“I don’t want it to be fake anymore,” he confessed in a whisper. For a minute there was only a heavy silence as you stared at each other. “Please say something, Y/N.”
“You really want to date me?” You found it hard to believe that an idol like Seungmin would be interested in you.
“You’re saying that like I shouldn’t,” now he was the one tilting his head at you.
“I mean, you’re an idol and I’m just…” you trailed off, searching for the right words to voice your feelings. “I’m just a sound tech. A nobody in this company. Not to mention my upbringing, and all of my legal baggage. You deserve someone bette–”
“No. Listen to me,” he held your face with both hands. “Your job, your family life, your hardships. None of those make you less than anyone else. You say I deserve better? I say that there is no one better.”
“Seungmin,” he brushed away a stray tear that fell with his thumb. “I don’t want it to be fake anymore, either.” A wide, radiant grin broke out on his face, and he tugged you into a tight hug, resting his chin on your head while your forehead dropped to his collarbone.
“Good. I’m taking you on a date this weekend.” You giggled, clinging to his shirt until your phone started blowing up with reminders that the break was over. You pulled back reluctantly. Seungmin pressed a tiny kiss to your temple before speed-walking down the hall to hide his blush.  You shook your head with a smile, heading back to the studio after getting three more texts from Jiseok.

Hii! I've been waiting for quite a while to share this thought with you. A while ago, I shared with you my thoughts and it led to "Hacked" being written with Ramattra x Reader. I'd like to... maybe request a second part of that? I've been daydreaming about the possibilities of what's next for it. So, I'd like you to choose what happens:
A. Ramattra encountering Reader again in the battlefield and this time she has no time to hack through his system, and he finds her first. Keen into making her feel exactly how he felt back then.
B. Reader once again hacks into Ramattra's system, but this time she's braver, getting him while he's recharging (simply sneaking in his base to prove a point) and making him feel exactly what humans feel when they orgasm.
-Nia
We don't talk about how I did this within hours of the request coming through...
HI AGAIN!! IT'S GOOD TO SEE YOU!! ♥ Thank you so much for requesting again, I love the ideas as always ^^
Tumblr media
Ramattra x Reader (gen)
Word count: 1348 !! NSFW !!
The vessel rattles in the sky, currently moving over Toronto. The attacks below were never ending as Ramattra continued to repeat the broadcast. The gunfire and screams were louder than before as he watched on; one by one, humans fell and omnic civilians were secured. It was going exactly as he planned.
Steering away from the capitol, he heads for his new location to oversee the destruction happening there. In the meantime, however, he was due a recharge.
Taking a seat on the floor, back resting against the wall, he plugs himself in, wires connecting to his sides and back of the neck. He goes through his systems, setting up the necessary precautions just in case his vessel gets attacked and then the lights on his forehead dim, changing orange as he goes into standby.
Everything fell silent, though Ramattra could still pick out the workings of his ship; the humming of the engine vibrating against the floor, the soft flickers of light that passed by the window on occasion. It was as if time had slowed down.
His optics shifted to where a noise could be heard, but due to being in standby, his vision was blurred to make his charging time quicker. Something had fallen so he left it be, the turbulence must've knocked it over.
Ramattra went back to his charging meditation, his body unmoving as it lay against the wall until a familiar feeling kicked in.
It took his systems a moment to register what was going on but it was too late. The module he had locked away was open once again, his wires heating up slowly as he attempts to wake up.
“It’s too late.” A familiar voice rang out. “Your systems can’t beat me this time.”
Despite his vision being overrun with omnicode and errors, he tilts his head up to view you. His voice was a low rumble as he attempts to speak.
“You- How-”
“It’s simple, really.” You approach him, straddling his knees as you lower yourself onto him and dropping the holopad beside your leg. “Your guard is down, a foolish idea, really.” Your fingers stroke the wires that were placed into his sides. The Null Sector leader beneath you once again, unable to do anything, unable to fight back, what a pretty sight it was.
“Get out.”
You tut, shaking your head with a smirk. “That is no way to treat a guest, Ramattra. Besides, I want to finish what we started the other week.”
The omnic felt his wires flare up in heat, the module lighting up within his vision. His vocaliser cuts out as he speaks. “You-... serious.” He was weak, you truly had caught him when he least expected it.
A sly laugh escapes you as you trail your fingers on that same tubing over his hips. A gentle squeeze that sent a wave of euphoria over his body. He shudders at the contact.
“How far can we take this?” Leaning over, you tap the holopad, pulling up the module that Ramattra had kept locked deep inside of his systems. From there, you had full access to his sex drive. “Oh, Ramattra. How long have you been like this?”
His system fights back, or attempts to, but your software was stronger this time, he can barely move his hands or arms.
With one tap, you send a wave of ecstasy throughout the omnic and his back arches involuntarily, a garbled, static moan escaping from his vocaliser.
“Hm?” You smirk at him, letting the holopad go as you return your hands to his body, tracing the pads of your fingers against his metal bracing. You could feel him shake with each careful, calculated stroke.
Ramattra can only glare at you, optics looking at your blurry features as he tries to adjust the settings.
“Ah, ah. I don’t think so.” You override his attempts before moving closer to him, hands dipping between the braces as they move towards his back. The exposed cables there were begging to be touched and with one tap, a spark of electricity surges through Ramattra’s core.
“S-Stop that-!” He demands, though his tone suggests that he does not mind the feeling.
He doesn’t know what to do. No matter how hard he tries, he cannot get rid of you from inside of his systems. He tries an alternative route but there was no success there either. Deep inside, however, he did like the feeling of being vulnerable, having someone touch him like the way you are doing. It felt pleasurable.
Ramattra tries one more time, searching through any and all coding to find a weak spot and when he finally stumbles upon it does he take immediate action. His systems work hard to destroy your virus but the want to keep the touching going slows down the process.
He needs you.
He wants you.
He gives in.
The omnic sits there, allowing himself to be lost in the moment. The feeling of your hands exploring his body heightened his senses. His servos twitch before slowly making their way to your hips, holding you in place.
“Someone is enjoying this.” You smirk, dragging your fingers over the pistons on his neck.
“Shut up.” His vocaliser betrays him once more, another static moan escaping him as his head tilts back against the wall.
“Feels nice, doesn’t it?”
It took Ramattra a while to respond, but when he did, it confirmed everything you ever wondered.
“Yes…” His grip on your hips tighten slightly, indicating that he didn’t want you to stop for any reason.
He feels you grinding against his pelvic plate, possibly chasing your own high but the way you squeezed and teased him said otherwise. Then it clicks in his head. This was about him reaching his orgasm after several long years of nothingness. You knew how long it had been for him and how much he craved it.
Your one hand was tangled in his cabled hair as the other trails back down towards his hips. You feel him jerk, he wants the contact to last as you pull back, a familiar heat pooling in your stomach.
“Ramattra…”
“Seems like you cannot hold on for much long either.” He states with a hint of amusement in his voice.
A flush appears on your cheeks as you squeeze his tubing once more, a little harder than last time.
The omnic jerks his hips, pressing further into you as he moans out, vocaliser stuttering as he tries to keep it together.
“Such sweet noises… To think the Null Sector leader could sound like this…” Another tug at his cables causes him to moan loudly.
You glance at the holopad whilst the omnics head was tilted backwards; his systems were lit up, errors appearing as you manhandle his wires, pinching and twisting them. It brought you joy, a satisfaction coursing through your veins as you realise how much power you truly hold over him in this moment.
Another squeeze had the holopad flash black which causes you to look back at him. His vocaliser cuts mid moan, the lights on his forehead were off, fans were slowing down, yet his hold on your hips stayed. You had caused him to crash.
Part of you panicked, but the moment the lights flickered on again, a soft orange before red, the panic was overridden with a sense of accomplishment.
His vocaliser clicks before he speaks. “No human should mess around with machinery too advanced than their mind and body can handle.”
Your eyes widen as you realise that him rebooting meant that your virus was no longer in affect. His grip on your thighs gets tight, bruises already beginning to form under the skin. He pulls himself free from the wires connected to him, grabbing both of your wrists with one hand before pinning you down on the floor, one metal thigh pressed up against your sex. His other hand toys with the waistband of your pants as he speaks out in an intimidating tone.
“Perhaps it is time for me to teach you a lesson.”

Working on Sophias Story again :D
-> A little later, Sophia reached maintenance shaft [xy], where the main security system of the SD of the Abyss Chrusher was located. The light activated by a motion sensor flared up in cold white with a delay of a few seconds. Neon Xilkor tubes of the NX-6 series had this somewhat unpleasant habit, which the manufacturer Asterisk never rectified. Despite this, Hallinger-FTL continued to install them in all maintenance rooms of their ship series to this day. The Davar class in particular suffered from this fact, as it had a higher number of such areas due to its modular design. As a result, Sophia had only been able to recognise the large control cabinets and component racks by the myriad of flashing LEDs when she arrived. This sea of red, orange and green diodes, which greeted her auspiciously from the steel racks, secretly watched over the entire crew and ensured that the safety units of the individual SERAHs were working.
Now that the white light flooded the room, she saw it in its entirety, and with it the technology inside. In contrast to the blinking confusion of the Sevix control racks on the right side of the room, the Servagul control cabinets on her left, unusual for a Davar-class ship, emitted a soft green glow. The reason for this was that Servagul built light panels into the doors of their products, which no self-respecting shipbuilder needed. Such nice lighting did nothing but waste power unnecessarily. Sure, ships like the Abyss Chrusher might not lack power, but that was no reason to be so wasteful.
Shrugging her shoulders, the engineer lifted her tool and the testing device before taking them to the control cabinet labelled SUR-2, where she set them down. She unlocked the door with her CAM and the handle whirred out, allowing her to open the cabinet. Sophia sighed, pulled open the cupboard door and, coloured by the light from the front panel, saw another flood of flashing or glowing diodes emanating from the security register cards. It was a sight that filled the engineer with joy, because she had hardly been able to wait to get back into the bowels of the Abyss Chrusher, but the work that was to follow was rather dull. So she plugged her headphones into her CAM, put them in her ears and switched on an album by a band Liv had shown her a few days ago. A harsh guitar riff accompanied by the vocals of a woman singing in the language of the Marlan system rang out.
She then began checking the security tabs, which initially consisted of informing the SD-SERAH of her work via the control panel in the top frame of the device. In fact, Sophia was only slightly keen on an emergency lockout of the SD, even if she could override it with her system authorisations. Basically, you had to give Servagul and Sevix credit for the cleverness of their products. After all, the automatic security system, which according to Ela - unfortunately there were no plans on this subject - summarised one subsystem of the drive per cabinet in order to pass them on to SERAH in a bundle.
You could imagine the tabs and their subsystems as the nervous system of a body, which transmitted every pain of the machines to the consciousness or to an AI. SERAH then reported the information to the Abyss Chrusher's SAM, the ship's main AI, which ensured that appropriate action was taken. What the SERAH was to the SD, the SAM was to the entire ship.
Sophia pulled a small screwdriver from the side pocket on her left arm. She used it to loosen the two neck screws on the top and bottom of the front panel of each of the seven assemblies. She was then able to pull them out by the handle to insert them into the test device. This established a serial, wired connection with the fuse register in order to then interrogate the main function of the unit on the two circuit boards of the modules. For this purpose, the test device simulated a fault by sending a specific signal sequence via the bus interface. The module processed this within a few femtoseconds and signalled an alarm back to the test device. At least that's how it worked when everything was OK. The process only took a few blinks of the eye until the technical measurement results - such as resistance, time and induction values - appeared on the display of the test device. Confirmation of the success or failure of the analysis could then also be obtained.<-

I Found You In The Shadows of The Lantern Glow
pairing:  Obi-Wan Kenobi/Siri Tachi rating: general audiences word count: 2.9k ao3 • star wars masterlist
Tumblr media
Summary: Carrying the weight of his deception, Obi-Wan Kenobi wanders Theed. Siri Tachi is on a mission, with the added burden of grief. The whole planet of Naboo is celebrating the Festival of Light, its streets overflowing with life, a dazzling spectacle to behold. Nights like this uncover more than just the beauties of the galaxy.
A/N: Story concept inspired by "Green Jade Festival - Lantern Festival” , a poem by Xin Qiji written in the Song dynasty.
眾裏尋他千百度,驀然回首,那人卻在,燈火闌珊處。 «青玉案·元夕» 辛棄疾 A thousand times, I searched for her in the crowds. When all of a sudden, I turned around, And saw her there in the dim lantern light. “Green Jade Festival - Lantern Festival”  Xin Qiji
In one the many rooms of the Theed Royal Palace, two Jedi Masters convened, handling the aftermath of an undercover mission that successfully thwarted a devious Separatist plot to kidnap the Chancellor of the Republic.
“I guess I can’t put this off any longer.” Obi-Wan half-heartedly said, his chuckle uncharacteristically rough and low.
“That is indeed the case. Rako Hardeen’s voice in your body is an unsettling combination, Master Kenobi.” Mace Windu stood to the side of the room, his lips unmistakably curved upwards. Despite his stoic manner and composed temperament, he was unable to hide his amusement towards his colleague’s plight.
Sighing, Obi-Wan moved his wrist towards himself, tapping a few buttons on the screen of his communicator. A hazy blue projection popped up, displaying the words ‘Confirm Voice Modulator Ejection’ in a cool, fluorescent white.
“Well, let’s get this over with.”  He looked over at Master Windu, hoping for some verbal support, only to be met with the same bemused grin.
The moment he hit select, the spider-like modulator began folding out its legs, making Obi-Wan cough at the sudden irritation in his throat. The modulator started its ascent from his larynx, crawling up, its metal claws digging into the walls of his neck. Obi-Wan forced himself to sit down on a chair, choking on the clawing contraption. Even the experience he had with the device when he first swallowed it down did not prepare him for the discomfort of it going out.
“Breathe through your nose, Obi-Wan.” Master Windu called out from where he stood, sympathetic.
Finally, in what felt like an eternity, the modulator fell out of his mouth and onto the floor, leaving Obi-Wan wheezing like a Boonta Eve podracer engine (and pilot) in its wake.
Master Windu placed a hand on Obi-Wan’s shoulder, steadying his reeling form.
Obi-Wan said between pants, “I hope I never have to do this again.”
“Thank the Force you’re not a Shadow, my friend.”
“Bless their souls.” Obi-Wan carefully rose from his chair, holding onto Mace Windu’s arm.
Droids, battlefields and Sith Lords had all wanted to render Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi to such a deficient state, but a puny, little voice modulator beat them to it.
Such were the strange contradictions of the galaxy.
Tumblr media
Siri Tachi was on a mission to gather intel on San Hill, the Chairman of the InterGalactic Banking Clan and heavy financial backer of Separatist forces. Her investigation led her to discover unusual monetary transactions between the banking clan and an unnamed party that peculiarly operated out of Naboo. The strangeness did not end there. With further digging, she found that all the assets involved in the exchange could be traced back to an account held by Damask Holdings, a Muunilinst entity that had dissolved years ago.
She managed to identify a broker who frequently worked with Hill. The middleman was native to Naboo, and was back on the planet, apparently for the Festival of Light. Siri found it quite ironic that a man who sold out the Republic for a living would be so committed to the holiday.  Alas, analyzing the complex intricacies of human behavior was not a part of her job, and she followed him all the way to Theed with no further questions.
Siri waited in front of a fruit stall, pretending to check out fresh produce. She picked up a starfruit, but her focus wasn’t on its texture or weight. The stall was conveniently right across a candied Shuura stand, where her target was patiently standing in line. The man sure had a sweet tooth, Siri thought to herself, he’d already had Theed’s signature plasma cloud dessert and a Jogan fruit tart earlier.
Siri loved a good night out, but it was taking an awfully long time for this man to go back home, whose whereabouts Siri was trying to locate. She’d broken into his work office a few days ago, but couldn’t find the documents she was looking for. She figured he probably kept them somewhere closer.
Intel gathering missions normally took a considerable amount of time, and Siri was a forbearing woman, but she didn't like how this assignment was dragging on. This operation had been rough, and it wasn’t because of the nature of the task itself, though Siri wished it was.
She was meeting up with a contact in a seamy bar when she found out.
     "Kenobi's fucking dead!"
"Remind me to give Rako Hardeen a call to congratulate him. Fucking mad lad, that one."
"A Jedi got knocked out by a sniper?"
     "I'll drink to that!"
She remembered the laughter that had erupted, the boasts, the toasts, and the liberal flow of alcohol. She had a front row seat to the celebration of Obi-Wan Kenobi's murder.
She didn’t believe it at first, there was no way that Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi Master and General of the Grand Army of the Republic, could have been taken out by something as uncivilized as a blaster shot. That was not a death worthy of a man as insolent as Obi-Wan Kenobi. That was not how her crechemate, her dear friend, was supposed to go. But then she saw it on the Holonews the next day, bold and underlined. It wasn't a headline one could easily miss.
She had swallowed down her emotions upon hearing the confirmation.  She had been in the middle of hacking into a computer terminal and security patrols could have stopped by her floor at any moment, she couldn’t afford to be distracted. It was just her luck that she’d had to find out through a television set left on after hours in an office building.
Even with the restraint of a Jedi, a part of her floated between utter disbelief and grief at the passing of Obi-Wan. Maybe it was because she was so far away from home when she found out, or maybe it was because she didn’t want to accept that he was gone, but the weight of Obi-Wan’s death hadn’t quite sunken in yet. She just wanted to finish up the mission and head back to the Temple. She knew she had to see his grave. His departure had been so sudden and so unthinkable , she needed to see a headstone, an engraving, something tangible , to understand that Obi-Wan Kenobi was truly, irrevocably, one with the force.
Her target happily munched on his candied Shuura. The confection was served on a stick, and the man eagerly rotated and adjusted the skewer to get new bites while ambling along the street. Siri continued trailing him.
Turning into a less busy road that led to more residential parts of Theed, Siri’s wishes were granted, the man was ready to turn in for the night. The pavements became dimmer and eventually began to lead up a hill. Benches lined the trail, occupied by doting couples. She was concerned that she would look out of place in what seemed to be a popular courting spot, but figured if she walked like she knew where she was going, it would appear that she was on her way to an intended destination.
Siri was thirty meters behind the dealer when he stopped at the top of the hill. Siri saw him crouch next to a tree, his bent form outlined by the glow of a lantern hanging from a branch, seemingly to catch his breath. She noted his unfit state and filed this piece of information away in a corner of her mind. Must be all the desserts, she considered.
By the time she reached the hilltop, the man was a quarter of the way along the trail that led downhill. There were less people on this path, and she figured continuing her pursuit would raise the man’s suspicions. She’d seen him glance backwards a few times, though not at her specifically. She had a pretty good view of the rows of houses beneath the hill from up here anyway. All she had to do to find his address was to keep an eye on him as he walked back to his house, a simple affair.
Hopefully, she would find the papers and contracts in his home tomorrow afternoon, then she’d be well on her way back to Coruscant by nightfall. She blinked away a few stray emotions at the thought of returning to the Temple. She wanted this mission to end, and she wanted to go home, but home wasn’t going to feel the same now, not anymore.
Siri leaned her arm against the tree. To any observer, it would look like she was admiring Theed’s nighttime cityscape. Standing in the shadow of a lantern's glow, she watched and waited.
Tumblr media
Senator Padme Amidala had kindly invited the Jedi to join the official celebrations for the Festival of Light, extending their stay on Naboo.  Mace Windu took pity on Obi-Wan for having to suffer through an excruciating voice modulator extraction, and offered to complete his administrative duties for him, giving him a well-deserved night off. Thus, Obi-Wan Kenobi found himself with a rare commodity in his hands, free time.
If one finds themselves in Theed during the Festival of Light, a spectacular commemoration of Naboo joining the Galactic Republic, not taking the opportunity to revel in the festivities would be a crime against merriment, and Obi-Wan was far from a criminal.
Strolling through a buzzing crowd, he reached into the force, feeling it hum with joy and happiness. The streets of Theed were teeming with life. Vendors set up shop along the roads, glow sticks and other festive ephemera brightly on display. Children ran after each other with their lanterns, the masses no barrier to their chase. Teenagers chattered in loud groups, exuding an air of wannabe maturity and jaunty spirit mixed with a sweeping undercurrent of angst, enjoying the prerogative of youth. They brought Obi-Wan back to his adolescence, which seemed to get further and further away with each passing day. He pondered when he had gotten so old. A small family walked by him, the parents carrying an infant, and Obi-Wan saw the little one’s eyes wide open in bewilderment, surely experiencing the magic of the festival for the first time.
No building was left undecorated, and festive streamers flowed down from every beam. The city was a kaleidoscope, and every turn of Obi-Wan's head revealed a different beauty. There was much to do, and plenty to admire.
The night sky was a flurry of colors. A mild East wind brushed past, and lanterns hanging from rooftops and tree branches swayed along its gentle current. Candle light flickered with the breeze’s delicate touch, causing the vibrant hues of the ornate lanterns to radiate outwards into a warm, fuzzy glow. The clacking of horses’ hooves blended in with the cheers of passersby as lavish carriages rolled across cobblestone, trailing behind handsome steeds. The notes of the flute danced brilliantly through the air, twirling and twisting, gracefully singing a Naboo folk song. A glimmering pearl revolved in midnight blue. The full moon shone brilliantly above the city.
The Naboo were known for their impeccable style, and tonight proved to Obi-Wan that it was no lie. Ladies dressed up to the nines walked the streets, draped in rich satin and decadent velvet. They adorned their hair in jade clips and ruby Millaflowers, its subtle fragrance following their laughter that echoed off tan walls.
The night was dazzling, yet Obi-Wan found himself drawn to the little things that hid behind the elaborate. He spied a dusty alleyway filled with old trinkets and skulking Loth cats, out on a prowl for dinner; a woman on a third-storey balcony was clipping wet clothes onto a clothing line, muttering something under her breath while sporadically casting disapproving glances into her apartment. Obi-Wan thought he saw a story there.
Walking further down the road, it began to take on a gentle gradient, and the crowds became thinner. Few lights lined the ascending path, and it could well be considered unilluminated compared to Theed’s main street. However, the darkness was not a deterrent, in fact, it may have been favored, as couples sat on dainty benches along the lane, exchanging whispers and shy blushes in the comfort of privacy gifted by the night.
Obi-Wan stood at the start of the trail, looking up to scan the small hill. Naboo’s climate was well suited to vegetation, and he imagined its grass covering to be a lush, verdant green under daylight. If he had time tomorrow, maybe he would come out here again and appreciate the knoll in its morning glory. It was an interesting sight to see in Theed, which was built mostly on flat terrain.
Obi-Wan’s glance reached the top of the hill. There, a single tree stood, the king of the mountain. Its leaves rustled in the wind, and its firm branches curled upwards into a crown.
Out of a sudden, he stopped his perusal, his vision zeroing in on an inclined figure beneath the tree. Opening up his senses, he felt a familiar signature hovering in the force. It was faint, but he recognized it immediately. After all, it wasn’t one he could easily forget.
Under the faint light of a lone lantern, Obi-Wan saw a wisp of blonde hair. He blinked a few times and took a second look to check that his eyes were not deceiving him. They weren’t, it was the undeniable outline of the person he held dear.
There, far away from the crowds and the action, standing on a dimly lit hilltop, was Siri Tachi.
Council members were, reasonably, not privy to every ongoing operation in the Order. Obi-Wan had not expected to find Siri in Theed during the Festival of Lights. His face fell when he realized that the last time they spoke was through a brief comcall a week before he transformed himself into Rako Hardeen. Obi-Wan’s faked death had spread like wildfire, especially among the more objectionable circles that pestered the galaxy. His heart clenched at the thought of the news reaching Siri, who likely would have been in character on a mission. That wasn’t how he’d hoped the person he cared deeply about to find out about his demise, and it pained him that he had probably put her through more emotional turmoil in already precarious circumstances.
Obi-Wan stayed planted to the spot, unsure of what to do next. He wondered if going to her and opening up with a simple ‘Hello there’ would be appropriate, though an apology would probably be better suited. People thought dead turning up alive again were generally not met with warm hugs or pure elation. Shock, confusion, then a rightfully deserved angry tirade would likely be his fate if he did approach her, Anakin had served him the same dish prior.
Siri’s presence was calming to Obi-Wan, its familiarity was grounding, and carrying the weight of his deception on his shoulders, Obi-Wan needed the solace. As much as he wanted to stay in her presence a little longer, even without her knowing, Obi-Wan knew that walking away would make a wiser choice. He wanted nothing more than to see his friend again, to show her that he was alright, but that would be selfish of him. This wasn’t the right time or place to deal with the elephant in the room that was his status of being. This setting wasn’t conducive to delivering a tasteful exposé, the kind of reveal that Siri deserved.
He took in Siri’s form one more time, her frame illuminated by a soft, golden glow of a lantern. To him, her stance aired strength and focus, two qualities that always left Obi-Wan enamored.
Just as he was ready to leave, the figure on top of the hill turned to his direction. He remained where he was, unable to move away, transfixed by a silhouette’s stare.
They couldn’t see each other’s faces, but they were sure their eyes met.
Out of the blue, in dim light and haze, Lost lovers stood, entranced in their gaze. They found each other, to have not to hold, In the faint shadows of the lantern glow.

Busy week
I had a week full of software development. I slacked off on a bunch of other activities, such as physical exercise ... and blogging. So now I'm overdue for progress report...
Recall that last Saturday I completed Chapter 28 of the Java Vulkan tutorial and blogged about it, reporting just 2 chapters to go.
Chapter 29 was on multisample anti-aliasing (MSAA). I got that working on Sunday without much difficulty (8df30b5). However, it's a subtle effect (unless you have humongous pixels), so it didn't justify posting yet another screenshot of the Viking room.
Chapter 30 of the tutorial is the bonus chapter on compute shaders. That's a neat trick, but not relevant to my immediate plans, which involve turning the V-Sport project into a graphics engine.
I realized that the tutorial code makes simplifying assumptions that are inappropriate for a graphics engine: a single 3-D geometry with pre-baked lighting, mesh must be composed of triangles, a stationary viewpoint, no user input, and so on.
With this in mind, I abandoned the tutorial and undertook a massive restructuring of the code, to allow scenes containing multiple geometries (or no geometries at all). Along the way, I:
implemented a texture cache, to save memory and CPU cycles in case an application requests the same texture many times (2eaf093),
changed the naming scheme for shaders to match my OpenGL graphics engine,
made a plan for multiple shaders. In every V-Sport shader, vertex buffers will be laid out in the same order, the same uniforms will be defined, and any given uniform will have the same buffer offset everywhere. These restrictions simplify the implementation, while leaving possibilities to optimize later if they prove inefficient.
considered the possibility that a window might migrate from one GPU to another. If this ever happens, all application-visible "device resources" (textures, shader programs, and vertex buffers) can be silently updated, recreating their underlying Vulkan resources (images, shader modules, and mappable buffers) from scratch. I haven't seen this scenario in practice, but the time I spent thinking about it led me to a cleaner design.
split the uniforms into 2 buffers, one for global uniforms (such as camera orientation) that are the same for every 3-D geometry, and another for per-geometry uniforms (such as model orientation). Seems logical, ought to be more efficient, but wow was it tough to get right!
deferred loading of shader modules until they are actually needed for rendering (9397178),
altered when command buffers get recorded. In the tutorial, each command buffer gets recorded exactly once, during initialization. In my engine, a command buffer gets re-recorded for every frame. Dynamic command recording allows the set of geometries being rendered (and all their properties) to vary from frame to frame.
All this work cleared a path for rendering multiple objects (3035e15) earlier this evening. Tomorrow I'll play around and (hopefully) post a screenshot that's both interesting and relevant.

Why Do Electronic Devices Rely on Voltage Regulators? Discover Their Role in Reliable Power Management
Tumblr media
In the complex world of electronics, maintaining consistent and precise voltage levels is essential for stable operation. Voltage regulators are the components tasked with this responsibility. They safeguard electronic circuits from power fluctuations, ensuring each part of a system functions correctly and efficiently. Whether in smartphones, medical devices, or industrial machines, voltage regulators form the foundation of dependable power delivery.
Modern devices are more compact and power-sensitive than ever. To accommodate these needs, Power Management ICs (PMICs) integrate voltage regulators into a single chip, streamlining energy distribution across various modules while optimizing board space and reducing heat.
What Makes Voltage Regulators Indispensable in Modern Technology?
Voltage regulators manage energy flow within an electronic circuit by keeping the output voltage at a steady level, regardless of variations in input voltage or current draw. This stability prevents component damage, data corruption, and overheating.
Two main approaches are used to regulate voltage:
Linear Regulation – In this method, excess input voltage is dissipated as heat. It’s simple, low-noise, and ideal for analog applications but less efficient.
Switching Regulation – This technique involves rapidly switching elements on and off to control energy transfer. It uses inductors and capacitors to maintain output voltage and offers high efficiency, especially for battery-powered systems.
Each approach suits different power requirements, with linear regulators preferred for simplicity and switching regulators chosen for efficiency.
What Are the Primary Types of Voltage Regulators?
Different electronic systems demand different power control techniques. To meet these demands, several types of voltage regulators have been developed:
Fixed Voltage Regulators Deliver a specific, constant output voltage. Commonly used in basic electronic projects and legacy systems.
Adjustable Voltage Regulators Provide a user-defined output voltage through external resistors, allowing more control for complex circuit needs.
Low Dropout (LDO) Regulators Efficient in low-voltage scenarios, these require only a minimal difference between input and output voltages and are favored in portable devices.
Buck (Step-Down) Converters Reduce input voltage to a lower output voltage with high efficiency, ideal for powering low-voltage microcontrollers from higher-voltage sources.
Boost (Step-Up) Converters Increase input voltage to a higher output voltage. Common in systems where a small power source, like a battery, must supply higher-voltage components.
Buck-Boost Converters Adaptively raise or lower voltage based on input conditions, offering flexibility for unstable power sources.
How Do Power Management ICs Improve Efficiency with Built-In Regulators?
Power Management ICs are comprehensive solutions that include multiple voltage regulators in a compact chip. These integrated circuits optimize how power is distributed across processors, memory, communication modules, and sensors.
Reduce the need for multiple discrete regulators on a board
Minimize power loss and heat generation
Simplify circuit design and reduce footprint
Allow programmable voltage settings for dynamic power demands
PMICs are widely used in mobile devices, embedded systems, and IoT applications where power efficiency and miniaturization are priorities.
Where Are Voltage Regulators Used Across Industries?
Voltage regulators are not confined to just one sector. Their versatility makes them a backbone in numerous applications:
Automotive Electronics Stabilize voltage for sensors, infotainment systems, LED lighting, and engine control units under constantly changing electrical conditions.
Consumer Electronics Ensure consistent power delivery to cameras, smartphones, gaming consoles, and laptops, improving battery performance and device lifespan.
Medical Equipment Deliver safe and steady power to critical instruments like heart monitors, diagnostic devices, and portable defibrillators.
Industrial Automation Manage power for programmable logic controllers (PLCs), motors, and robotic systems operating in high-demand, noisy environments.
Telecommunication Infrastructure Provide efficient power to signal processors, antennas, and routers, supporting high-speed data transmission.
What Should You Consider When Choosing a Voltage Regulator?
Selecting the right voltage regulator requires evaluating several technical factors that align with your application’s needs:
Input and Output Voltage Range Ensure compatibility between source and required device voltage.
Current Capacity Choose a regulator that can handle the peak current draw without overheating.
Efficiency Requirements For battery-powered or heat-sensitive designs, prioritize switching regulators or PMICs with high efficiency.
Noise Sensitivity For audio, RF, or precision analog systems, opt for linear regulators with minimal ripple and electromagnetic interference.
Thermal Management Consider regulators with built-in thermal protection or those requiring heat sinks for high-load operations.
Why Are Voltage Regulators Critical for Next-Generation Electronics?
As electronic systems continue to grow more powerful and compact, the importance of voltage regulation increases. Designers must strike a balance between performance, efficiency, and size. Voltage regulators, particularly those integrated into Power Management ICs, enable engineers to meet these demands by delivering reliable, adaptable, and energy-efficient power solutions.
Their role goes beyond simply powering circuits — they form the nerve center of power distribution, enabling innovation across industries.
