Oh, my dear, if only it were that simple. You see, not even a four letter word can be wrapped up into one little sentence. Sure, the so-called definition given by Webster may seem to wrap to up it pretty well, even with a nice bright bow. But, it's just barely dipped its toes into the kiddie side of the pool. And, like it or not, life is all about the deep end.

No two loves are the same.

We'll start with ᴘᴀʀᴇɴᴛᴀʟ ʟᴏᴠᴇ. Now as you know, this is not something I have a vast experience with. Sure, I loved my dad when he was alive. I loved my mom back then too. But then my father died and my mom changed. However, this is not about me. Your parents are the reason you're here today, listening to this ramble of mine. Your parents are who fed you, cleaned up your crap, and dealt with your shit when you were a kid. And if you're lucky, they loved you, and you loved them. You could count on them to be there when you needed someone to talk to, or at least when you needed to learn about laundry settings or how long to microwave leftovers. Parental love isn't something you really have control of until you're a certain age. As a toddler or baby all you know them as is "mama" and "dada" and considering they seem okay and you don't know much better at that age, you're likely gonna love them. I can't speak for how that may've changed as you grew older.

Next on the list is ᴛʜᴇ ʟᴏᴠᴇ ғᴏʀ sᴏᴍᴇᴛʜɪɴɢ ɴᴏɴʟɪᴠɪɴɢ. Now I don't mean a dead person, that's a whole other story. What I mean is things like your baby blanket, or that selfie that makes you look hot as fuck. Which you are, don't try and argue with me over that. I'd like to think this love is fairly self explanatory. It's the love you feel when you're standing on your bed singing into a hairbrush. The love you feel when you put the ornament from your first Christmas onto the tree. Or perhaps the love that radiates from your heart when you smell the cologne your boyfriend wears, or your father wore. What is it for me, you ask? The love that comes from the smell of salt air, reminding me of the night of my sixteenth birthday. Call it cheesy, if you so chose.

ᴄʜɪʟᴅʜᴏᴏᴅ ʟᴏᴠᴇ. I think we all experienced those times of elementary school (or primary school, for the fancy British out there). For me it was kindergarten, when a classmate told me his love for me was big enough to fill up the whole gym. Of course, he had to wait until the last day of the school year to tell me this. There was a kiss on the cheek and we both exclaimed our love for each other. I can't be the only one with an experience like this, can I? Questions aside, it's important enough to make this list.

ᴛᴇᴇɴᴀɢᴇ ʟᴏᴠᴇ. Kisses against the lockers between classes. Movie dates. Stolen glances in the hallway. Singing love songs together. Sneaking out in the middle out of the night to meet them at the park. Shared milkshakes or earphones. The time in your life when you'll have your first real relationship. Adults say teenagers don't know what real love is. I have to very strongly disagree with that ignorant statement. At its core, what exactly is "real" love. I'll let you decide that for yourself, as I find the answer to differ greatly from one person to another.

ᴍᴀʀɪᴛᴀʟ ʟᴏᴠᴇ. You've found the person you want to spend the rest of your life with. You say your vows and go off on a honeymoon. Then you face life together. Said to be the strongest of loves, of which I can't deny. Hell, you do have to spend a grand amount of time with the person.

ғʀɪᴇɴᴅsʜɪᴘ. You can argue that a group of friends doesn't love each other all that you want. My mind will not change. Staying up till the early hours of the morning, telling each other everything, being willing to die for one another. If that's not love, then I'll shut up. But it is, so you're stuck listening.

ғᴀᴍɪʟɪᴀʟ. We all claim to hate our siblings, but we all truthfully know we'd do most anything for them. Grandparents can be tricky and give sloppy kisses, but we love them too. Aunts and Uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and all else. You may not know them well, but the bond is there.

sᴇʟғ ʟᴏᴠᴇ. A love all too rare.

Our list has dwindled down to the last love that I personally can think of. ʟᴏᴠᴇ ғᴏʀ ᴀ ᴘᴇᴛ. I'll keep it short. I mean, how can one not love such an adorable animal? Especially when they sleep at the end of your bed.

By now you're probably wondering, okay, so what was the point of this whole explanation? The answer is simple. Love is something not enough people understand.

Here’s the thing: relationships are a choice, and they are a conscious effort. Some people conflate that with hard. Do they take work? Absolutely. It takes work to be with someone, to care for someone, to build a life with someone. But just because it’s work doesn’t mean that it’s bad. Work can be good. Work can produce amazing things. If you think the work of being with someone is hard, then yes, relationships are hard. With the right person, the work is a pleasure.

30. Do you like text messaging?

I fahkin’ luhv it, m8. But I also sometimes don’t reply back right away.

32. Have you ever thought about getting your nose pierced?

I have! I used to want my left nostril pierced, but lately I’ve been toying with the idea of a septum piercing.

I love visiting Philadelphia! It is a charming and exciting city with a lot of history as it houses the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall and of course the famous “Rocky steps”. Here’s a list of the places my boyfriend and I visit the most and obviously can’t get enough of…

This place is amazing! Not only is it one of the oldest markets around but it is also the largest – it has about 75 vendors. The first time we visited, we couldn’t get enough. There is food literally everywhere. From Philly cheesesteaks to ice cream, to coffee and beer, I highly recommend going with an empty stomach because you will end up eating your way through the market. Since the market also houses fresh fish, poultry, meat and produce, a lot of the locals do their shopping here. Check out Luhv Vegan Deli, Old City Cofee, Kamal’s Middles Eastern specialties and Bassetts ice cream shop.

Philadelphia Magic Gardens

Mosaic heaven! There’s color, mirrors, and so much detail everywhere you look. Be sure to buy your tickets online as they sell out very quickly. Also make sure to check this place out on a nice day, as most of the exhibit is outdoors.

Morris Arboretum

Although it is about a 40-minute drive from Philadelphia, the trip is totally worth it. The gardens are filled with some of the most beautiful flowers I’ve ever seen and the admission is only $20 per person.

Penn’s Landing

Located in the Delaware River Waterfront, Penn’s Landing is great to visit either during the summer or the winter. If you visit in the summer, the Spruce Street Harbour Park has a beer garden, food stands, outdoor games, and hammocks where you can lounge around. In the winter, the Blue Cross River Rink Winterfest has a giant ice skating rink, firepits, and cozy cabins as well as an arcade and other activities for the family.

Cherry Street Pier No. 9

This Pier is also located along the Delaware River Waterfront. Be sure to check out their events page, as the pier has events only on certain days – unfortunately, the day we went they didn’t have anything going on, so we just walked around the space and checked out the art. We grabbed some ice cream at the little truck that was parked in the garden and took in the sun and views.

Philadelphia Museum of Art

Located at 2600 Benjamin Franklin Parkway at Kelly Drive, this is where you’ll find the 72 famous “Rocky Steps” from the Rocky III movie. After taking a picture with the Rocky statue and climbing the steps, be sure to make your way inside the museum. It is one of the largest museums in the country. There are so many things to see at the museum, so be sure to set aside a whole day to explore. Admission is normally $20 for adults but if you go on the first Sunday of the month and Wednesday after 5pm, the admission to the museum is pay-what-you-wish. The tickets are good for two consecutive days at the museum as well as three other buildings that are part of the museum. So if you don’t get to finish or explore everything in one day, you have an extra one to enjoy it.
