hi. on february 6th 2023, 04.17 am, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7,8 occured in southeastern Turkey. less than 12 hours later, a second earthquake with a magnitude of 7,5 once again took place about 120 kms away from the first one (it was NOT an aftershock. 2 different faults were broken.)
AT LEAST 20 MILLION people from 10 different cities in Turkey and a good portion of northern Syria are affected. the death toll (as of february 11th, 3 am turkey time) has surpassed 20 thousand. more than 70 thousand people were injured.
world health organisation (WHO) has declared the earthquakes a "grade 3 emergency" (A single country or multiple country emergency, requiring a major/maximal WHO response. Organizational and/or external support required by the WCO is major and requires the mobilization of Organization-wide assets.)
buildings in the region are either completely destroyed or very heavily damaged. there are still people fighting for their lives under the ruins more than 100 hours since rhe first earthquake.
the expected death toll varies from 40 thousand to more than 100 thousand people. entire CITIES are DESTROYED. reduced to ground.
imagine almost all of the buildings were destroyed in paris-brussels-rotterdam-amsterdam. thats how big of an area is affected.
why am i telling this? because you can help. our people need food, housing, clothes, medicine.... anything that you can think of, we need it. please consider donating to ahbap, a non-profit organisation that has been working very hard slnce the beginning of this nightmare. they try to provide anything you can think of from temporary housing to food to clothes, help search&rescue operations, help those who are under the ruins to raise their voices....
if you are hesitant to donate to a charity you've never heard of before, you can donate to oxfam's earthquake emergency fund. oxfam is a global organisation that fights inequality to end poverty and lnjustice.
hundreds of thousands of people need any and all support they can get right now. the need for resources and money wont be over in a few weeks time, it will take us decades to treat our wounds and rebuild our homes. please dont abandon us. we need your support more than ever.
for any questions regarding the situation, how you can help, how to donate etc, do not hesitate to send an ask.

Biden reportedly provided guidance to Iran in its attack on Israel.
How wonderful! I mean, who needs allies when you can just cozy up to a regime known for its human rights abuses and support for terrorism against America? Clearly, Biden is showing us all what a loyal friend he is not. I’m sure the American people are thrilled to know that their tax dollars are going towards helping a country that has repeatedly threatened our national security.
But hey, why stop there? Maybe next we can offer guidance to North Korea on how to build more nuclear weapons. After all, why should we have any concern for the safety of our own citizens when we can just appease dictators and hope they play nice? It’s not like Iran has ever lied about their nuclear program or anything. Oh wait, they have. Multiple times. But I guess that’s just water under the bridge for the Biden administration.
It’s truly remarkable how Biden manages to prioritize the interests of other countries over those of his own. Who needs a strong America when you can just pander to the whims of oppressive regimes? I’m sure the American people are feeling so secure knowing that their president is more concerned with being liked by other countries than protecting their safety and well-being.
So thank you, Biden, for once again proving what a great ally and loyal friend you are not. Your commitment to putting America last is truly commendable.

It is over and everything is lost. This is the refrain repeated by Armenian families as they take that final step across the border out of their home of Nagorno-Karabakh.
In just a handful of days more than 100,000 people, almost the entire Armenian population of the breakaway enclave, has fled fearing ethnic persecution at the hands of Azerbaijani forces. The world barely registered it. But this astonishing exodus has vanished a self-declared state that thousands have died fighting for and ended a decades-old bloody chapter of history.
On Saturday, along that dusty mountain road to neighbouring Armenia, a few remaining people limp to safety after enduring days in transit.
Among them is the Tsovinar family who appear bundled in a hatchback littered with bullet holes, with seven relatives crushed in the back. Hasratyan, 48, the mother, crumbles into tears as she tries to make sense of her last 48 hours. The thought she cannot banish is that from this moment forward, she will never again be able to visit the grave of her brother killed in a previous bout of fighting.
“He is buried in our village which is now controlled by Azerbaijan. We can never go back,” the mother-of-three says, as her teenage girls sob quietly beside her.
“We have lost our home, and our homeland. It is an erasing of a people. The world kept silent and handed us over”.
She is interrupted by several ambulances racing in the opposite direction towards Nagorno-Karabakh’s main city of Stepanakert, or Khankendi, as it is known by the Azerbaijani forces that now control the streets. Their job is to fetch the few remaining Karabakh Armenians who want to leave and have yet to make it out.
“Those left are the poorest who have no cars, the disabled and elderly who can’t move easily,” a first responder calls at us through the window. “Then we’re told that’s it.”
As the world focused on the United Nations General Assembly, the war in Ukraine and, in the UK, the felling of an iconic Sycamore tree, a decades old war has reignited here unnoticed.
It ultimately heralded the end of Nagorno-Karabakh, a breakaway Armenian region, that is internationally recognised as being part of Azerbaijan but for several decades has enjoyed de facto independence. It has triggered the largest movement of people in the South Caucasus since the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Azerbaijan has vehemently denied instigating ethnic cleansing and has promised to protect Armenians as it works to reintegrate the enclave.
But in the border town of Goris, surrounded by the chaotic arrival of hundreds of refugees, Armenia’s infrastructure minister says Yerevan was now struggling to work out what to do with tens of thousands of displaced and desperate people.
“Simply put this is a modern ethnic cleansing that has been permitted through the guilty silence of the world,” minister Gnel Sanosyan tells The Independent, as four new busses of fleeing families arrive behind him.
“This is a global shame, a shame for the world. We need the international community to step up and step up now.”
The divisions in this part of the world have their roots in centuries-old conflict but the latest iterations of bitter bloodshed erupted during the collapse of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh Armenians, who are in the majority in the enclave, demanded the right to autonomy over the 4,400 square kilometre rolling mountainous region that has its own history and dialect. In the early 1990s they won a bloody war that uprooted Azerbaijanis, building a de facto state that wasn’t internationally unrecognised.
That is until in 2020. Azerbaijan, backed by Turkey, launched a military offensive and took back swathes of territory in a six-week conflict that killed thousands of soldiers and civilians. Russia, which originally supported Armenia but in recent years has grown into a colder ally, brokered a fragile truce and deployed peacekeepers.
But Moscow failed to stop Baku in December, enforcing a 10-month blockade on Nagorno-Karabakh, strangling food, fuel, electricity and water supplies. Then, the international community stood by as Azerbaijan launched a 24-hour military blitz that proved too much for Armenian separatist forces. Outgunned, outnumbered and weakened by the blockade, they agreed to lay down their weapons.
For 30 years the Karabakh authorities had survived pressure from international powerhouses to give up statehood or at least downgrade their aspirations for Nagorno-Karabakh. For 30 years peace plans brokered by countries across the world were tabled and shelved.
And then in a week all hope vanished and the self-declared government agreed to dissolve.
Fearing further shelling and then violent reprisals, as news broke several Karabakh officials including former ministers and separatist commanders, had been arrested by Azerbaijani security forces, people flooded over the border.
At the political level there are discussions about “reintegration” and “peace” but with so few left in Nagorno-Karabakh any process would now be futile.
And so now, sleeping in tents on the floors of hotels, restaurants and sometimes the streets of border towns, shellshocked families, with a handful of belongings, are trying to piece their lives together.
Among them is Vardan Tadevosyan, Nagorno-Karabakh’s minister of health until the government was effectively dissolved on Thursday. He spent the night camping on the floor of a hotel, and carries only the clothes he is wearing. Exhausted he says he had “no idea what the future brings”.
“For 25 years I have built a rehabilitation centre for people with physical disabilities I had to leave it all behind. You don’t know how many people are calling me for support,” he says as his phone ringed incessantly in the background throughout the interview.
“We all left everything behind. I am very depressed,” he repeats, swallowing the sentence with a sigh.
Next to him Artemis, 58, a kindergarten coordinator who has spent 30 years in Steparankert, says the real problems were going to start in the coming weeks when the refugees outstay their temporary accommodation.
“The Azerbaijanis said they want to integrate Nagorno-Karabakh but how do you blockade a people for 10 months and then launch a military operation and then ask them to integrate?” she asks, as she prepares for a new leg of the journey to the Armenian capital where she hopes to find shelter.
“The blockade was part of the ethnic cleansing. This is the only way to get people to flee the land they love. There is no humanity left in the world.”
Back in the central square of Goris, where families pick through piles of donated clothes and blankets and aid organisations hand out food, the loudest question is: what next?
Armenian officials are busy registering families and sending them to shelters in different corners of the country. But there are unanswered queries about long-term accommodation, work and schooling.
“I can’t really think about it, it hurts too much,” says Hasratyan’s eldest daughter Lilet, 16, trembling in the sunlight as the family starts the registration process.
“All I can say to the world is please speak about this and think about us. We are humans, people made of blood, like you and we need your help.”

Random Shanks Headcanons
Tumblr media
Summary: A random collection of Shanks headcanons
CW: None // SFW
———
Has a fake arm that he uses for gags. Only he and Yasopp find it funny. Beckman once tossed the arm overboard after Shanks ‘lost’ the arm in a pot of Lucky Roux’s stew, only for Shanks to enter the mess hall the next morning with another attached to his body.
Can do magic tricks, especially good with coins and cards. A very skilled sleight of hand artist. Also not above using these tricks to cheat while playing cards. (Inspired by the coin game w/ Luffy flashback). Cheating is the only way he can beat Beckman, who’s by far the best player on the crew. But he doesn’t even cheat to win, he just likes the thrill of getting away with it; also enjoys the thrill of getting caught. There was a rabbit loose aboard the Red Force for a solid month after the captain tried to learn how to pull it out of a hat.
The best beer pong player in the New World, probably the entire world. Would challenge all of his enemies to a game of beer pong to settle their disputes if he thought they would respect the results of the game. Good at drinking games in general (has a little too much experience).
Is an infamous gossip. If a member of the crew wants word to get out about something, they just mention it to their captain.
Enjoys playing matchmaker. Always acts as a wingman for his crew when there’s a pretty bar maid. The only one he never tried to fix up with one of his crew mates was his darling Makino.
Are soap operas a thing in the One Piece universe? Because if so, he has a favorite that he never misses an episode of (fights hardest on Thursdays so he can be home in time to catch the latest episode of Search for One Piece, a pirate drama based loosely on Roger’s life. He particularly enjoys the harlequin character).
Loves meddling in any drama that comes up aboard the ship. Sometimes even starts drama just for entertainment, like the time he told Lucky Roux that he saw Limejuice sneaking steaks from the freezer, or when he robbed Beckman blind and left traces of a turkey leg at the scene of the crime.
Thinks childish pranks are the funniest thing in the world. Pranks prospective crew members to see how they respond; screens them based on whether they find his jokes funny. Beckman insists this is not the best way to do things but Shanks persists. But Shanks isn't just being childish. He's making sure everyone who joins his crew has a good nature as that is, in his opinion, the most important thing. If you can't trust your crew, you're dead in the water.
Was definitely posing when the government snapped the photo for his wanted poster but pretends it was completely candid. Has a habit of comparing his wanted poster to the posters of his enemies.
He also uses his wanted poster to fish for compliments, especially from his crew. “That’s a pretty good picture, isn’t it?” “I don’t look half bad in that, do I?” “The real reason the marines are hunting me- the sight of my wanted poster makes their wives swoon.”
Refers to himself as, “that handsome devil.”
Smells like body odor and weed, but in a Matthew McConaughey kind of way (that is to say, it works for him).
Animals and babies always like him. He insists the trick is to act uninterested.
He is genuinely good-natured, but he definitely uses his sense of humor to disguise how terrifying he truly is. Is a pro at lulling people into a false sense of security. Definitely slouches on purpose to seem less intimidating.
Secretly paid off Luffy's "treasure tab" at Makino's bar. Didn't do it just to be kind to the poor kid but actually because he believed Luffy when he said he'd pay it back in full and did it to annoy Luffy a decade or two down the line. (When Luffy finally goes back to pay Makino and she informs him Shanks already did, Luffy blows a gasket.)

So I was watching the latest video from chad chad (female youtuber, love her) and she was explaining a new trend to film and bully service workers into giving them bigger food portions. In order to showcase how ridiculous this is, she made a male youtuber make her a sandwich and she bullied him the entire time. Seeing a woman talk down to a man making her a sandwich helped my mental health, I was feeling way better after experiencing this. I was already happy.
But! Then he tried to explain that he is not a NPC; he's a 3-dimensional person, he has children for gods sake! And on the screen there was a message 'Can't make a turkey sandwich, but can make a baby make it make sense' and this just sent me to another level. We need this, lets do this, every male who took it upon himself to make babies without having basic culinary skills, shame, shame them all. Make it a new standard they need to be able to complete 120 basic home chores before they're allowed even an attempt at making a baby. This is where the world needs to go they need to be shamed mercilessly for lacking even one household skill lets do it!!!!!

(ID in alt and under cut)
ID: 1a. Waist up of Guillermo and Nandor trying to squeeze past each other as they both walk into the fancy room at the same time. Guillermo has his arms curled into his chest as he tries to turn sideways, looking up at Nandor with flushed cheeks and wide eyes. Nandor tries to scooch past him, arms up in the air to keep from touching more than he has to and glaring across the room. Laszlo's voice from offscreen says 'Ah, there they are.' 1b. Knees up of Laszlo and Nadja sitting next to each other on the loveseat in matching gold and red outfits. Laszlo curls his lip towards the doorway and continues, 'Taking their sweet fucking time as usual.' Nadja clicks her tongue dismissively. Dolly, sitting on Nadja's knee, watches the doorway impassively as Nandor and Guillermo gripe at each other from offscreen: 'Get off of me!' 'Sorr- you're on me!' 1c. Knees up of the pair of armchairs across from the loveseat. Colin is sitting in the right chair, typing on the laptop balanced on his knees with a smile. Nandor lowers himself in the left chair, muttering, 'Fucking guy...' He glares at Laszlo and asks, 'What is the meaning of this, Laszlo? Since when do you call house meetings?' 1d. Waist up of Guillermo, still standing in the doorway and fidgeting with his hands. He looks awkwardly around the room, realizing there are no available seats. Offscreen, Nadja barks, 'You're not the only one allowed to call meetings, you big turkey!' Colin drawls, 'We're an equal opportunity collective, Nandor.' 1e. Repeat. Guillermo crosses his arms and decides to lead awkwardly against the doorframe, lips pressed in a tight line. Offscreen, Nandor says, 'As the leader, I-' Nadja interrupts him and spits, 'Don't start that bloody leader nonsense again!'
2a. Close up of Laszlo's knees as he slaps both hands down on them decisively and loudly clears his throat. 2b. Wide shot of Laszlo in profile, the doorway visible behind him. Right hand gripping the armrest and left idly twirling a finger in the air, he says, 'I will now be stating the purpose of this meeting. Unless we want to start measuring dicks, which I am more than happy to pause for-' Guillermo, still leaning on the doorway, blushes and interrupts quickly, 'Nope! Go on, please!' Laszlo continues as Nadja nods solemnly at his side, 'Very well- Now that our Guillermo is finally a vampire and refusing to do the washing up any longer...' 2c. 3 split bust panels with solid color backgrounds. In the center, in teal, is Laszlo leaning toward the viewer with a smirk, one eyebrow raised and holding a finger in the air as he says. 'We need to get a new familiar.' On the left, in red, Nandor leans on his hand and scowls at the floor, muttering, 'Yeesh, this again.' On the right, in green, Guillermo looks thoughtfully to the side, shoulders lowering, and murmurs 'Oh, yeah...' /end ID
