Addressing the Elephant in the Room

I recognize the need for "de-influencing" wherein people show us their non-glamorous, messy homes with no discernible aesthetic, and I understand the economic conditions which make that necessary

however, I don't think we should fall into the opposite ditch wherein we promote mess and ugliness just because it's the best we can seemingly do

we see this with "crunchy vs. silky" moms, where the former insists upon a very expensive all-or-nothing lifestyle that most moms cannot sustain, but then the latter reacts by promoting junk food and screen time for kids

I think if some daily activity or tool serves a beautiful purpose (e.g. cooking for your family, the desk on which your child does schoolwork, etc.), the substance should reflect the beauty of the purpose insofar as it is able. maybe that means budgeting for the copper ladle instead of the plastic one, or putting a fresh coat of paint on the thrifted desk instead of leaving it with all the stains and scratches of its former owner.

just because we lack the energy and money to live like famous Instagrammers doesn't mean we should wholly abandon the human dignity that a beautiful environment promotes, especially for children.

GOTH LEGACY CHALLENGE

Making this for myself and any of you guys who wanna tag along to this little experiment with me!

The goal of this challenge is simple: get to 10 generations, with each one representing a different goth subculture and fashion, starting with the Goth family. I hope that through this, you guys can see the love I have for the goth culture :)

For extra drama: none of the Goths of the main family line may die of old age.

RULES PER GENERATION BELOW:

GEN 1: Aristocrat Goth

The founders of the Goth legacy, their aristocratic air lends credence to their importance. Drawing from historical periods such as the Victorian and Edwardian eras, this subgenre of goth fashion features tailor suits, cravats, waistcoats, corsets and hats.

Master the piano and violin skills.

Reach 500,000 simoleons in savings.

Master the business career.

Make enemies with at least one Landgraab.

GEN 2: Witchy Goth

Drawing inspiration from their parents' lifestyle and beliefs, Cassandra and Alexander adopt a more spiritual approach to the goth aesthetic. This fashion subgenre is characterized by esoteric and spiritual elements in the outfit, such as moons, stars, skulls and maybe black cats if you want to be on the nose with it, while the cultural approach to it is inspired mainly by, of course, witchcraft.

Become a spellcaster.

Master the medium skill.

Learn all potions.

Reach lvl 5 in the gemology skill.

GEN 3: Traditional Goth

The "original" goths, who find their roots in gothic rock born in the post-punk era, the traditional goths are what you first think of when you hear the word goth: ripped, black clothes, dark makeup and wild hair. As a punk offshoot, traditional goths prioritize self-expression, individuality and challenging traditions.

Join any artistic career, and reach lvl 5 in it.

Master the guitar skill.

Volunteer at least once a week.

Befriend any occult.

GEN 4: NU Goth

A slightly controversial subgenre in the goth culture, NU or "new" goth is a more modern approach to the goth genre. More lenient in their view of what "makes" a goth, they are known to be more welcoming to mall goths and baby bats than trad goths (though that does not mean traditional goths are hostile to the two, simply that there is a prominent debate in the goth scene on what consists "a true goth"). This fashion type is what you'd probably find on pinterest or tiktok, with the more current fashion trends influencing the style.

Sell at least 5 thrifted outfits.

Join the social media career.

Film fashion tutorials at least once a week. (Get Famous)

Have at least 500 followers on any social media.

GEN 5: Cyber Goth

The cybergoth subculture and fashion mixes industrial, 2000s and rave aesthetics in one, featuring leather, neon colors, futuristic looks and a love for electronic music. They embrace philosophical discussions and imaginations of a dystopic information society future.

Master the DJing skill.

Reach lvl 5 in the dancing skill.

Go clubbing at least once a week.

Master the programming or robotics skill.

GEN 6: Pastel Goth

Mixing the kawaii aesthetic with gothic ideals and themes, pastel goth makes it's mark by ... well, being pastel. Often seen dipping into lolita or fairy kei fashion, this style can accessorize with sometimes cutesy details. This style is more focused on the fashion and aesthetics of the gothic look rather than the music, and on having fun with their self-expression.

Have an all-pastel home !

Make 5 friends.

Thrift clothes at least once.

GEN 7: Romantic Goth

As expected, romantic goth subculture focuses on romanticizing death, the macabre and the dark. They find beauty and appreciation in things like withered roses, skulls and more. Their fashion is characterized by flowy, ethereal silhouettes, and a feminine touch to their outfits. Its the embrace of beauty.

Have a gothic wedding ceremony.

Master the writing skill.

Have a cemetery.

Romance a vampire at least once.

GEN 8: White Goth

The white goths reverse the traditionally dark and ... well, black palette of the gothic genre for white, and other such colors you shouldn't wear at a wedding. Their clothing taste often includes silks, ethereal garments, ornate jewelry and parasols.

Master the organ skill.

Master the painting skill.

Serenade someone at least once.

Wear white at a wedding.

GEN 9: Victorian Goth

The Victorian Goth subculture pays homage to the elegance and refinement of the 19th century. Their fashion sense borrows from the Victorian era, with silhouettes evocative of the era, top hats, lace and corsets. They mix the aesthetic of a bygone era with the ideologies of all goths, that of individualism and self-expression through art and fashion.

Do not own any electronics, lights included.

Master the writing skill.

Own at least one horse, and travel to lots with it.

Paint at least 20 paintings.

GEN 10: Vampire Goth

Inspired by vampire lore and horror, the vampire goth fashion scene includes elegant, intricate designs, corsets, capes, vampire fangs (real or otherwise) and bloody, macabre themes. Like the romantic goths, they find beauty and allure in the dead and the deadly, and would probably love owning a fainting couch.

Turn at least 5 sims into vampires.

Hello, I'm Missy! I've created many challenges in the past, and I'm best known for the Herbs and Spices Legacy, which I co-created with my friend @sunboyish. If you know me, you know how much I love butterflies—I even have multiple tattoos of them! I searched everywhere on Tumblr but couldn't find the original butterfly legacy challenge. If you happen to find it, please tag me so I can give proper credit.

Since I couldn't find the original, I created my own version, and I hope it's refreshingly different for you. I get bored of legacy challenges easily (it's not you, it's me), so I designed each generation to stand out with unique traits and stories. Rules

Start out with 0 simoleons or enough to make a starter home then take the money away

Each gen only takes 20% of the funds your last generation accumulated

I love mods, so go ahead and get every mod out there, but just don't make the challenge too easy, trust me it gets boring if its easy

You don't have to level up any skills to level 10, they're just there so you have an idea on what you're going to do that generation - mostly from the career you're doing

📓 A headcanon about their hobbies

angry baker kipperlilly copperkettle will always be famous to me. i think the nature of baking, just how precise you have to be and the fact that there a correct way to bake (in contrast to cooking), would make it something she can do to help destress.

more generally, i think she needs something tactile to do as a hobby. she needs something to get with her hands, and just get out some of her anger, at least the seething and simmering sort, by making something.

kipperlilly's closet is half-fillled with lucy's clothes. they never really shared clothes because one of them is a halfling and the other is a goliath frost genasi so it wouldn't really work out, but they spent the night and each other's houses often enough that it just made sense to leave clothes with each other instead of packing a bag every time.

after lucy died, kipperlilly packed away all of her clothes and put them somewhere she wouldn't have to see them except for one sweater. she had that one unwound and commissioned a few sweater vests made from it. if asked about this, she will deny it.

i think ivy hunts. not just as a ranger thing, but as something she started doing with her parents when she was younger. her childhood memories often start before the sun is up in some freezing cold forest while she nocked an arrow and aimed it at a deer. she'll say it's a practical thing when asked but truthfully, she keeps it up because of a sense of nostalgia.

the way ivy dresses at school is not at all the way she dresses when she's out with the rat grinders in the woods. she actually forced oisin to make up a thieves' tongue curse so that the rest of the party cannot tell anyone about the long sleeve shirts and ankle length jeans with her socks pulled up over them and the boots, the stupid clunky boots. i know elves are less likely to get sick but ticks and snakes are still a thing, and i can't imagine anyone wants to get fantasy lyme disease. ivy's just spent too much time in the woods to even want to risk it.

lucy knows some very basic sewing, limited mostly to mending stuff. yeah, the mending cantrip exists but it can't so anything and why bother learning it when there's a long tradition carried down from the Mountains of Chaos of making things last as long as possible even without the use of magic.

in that vein, her clothes tend to have visible mending—patches on the elbows, different colored thread stark against the white of her sweaters where she mended a tear, and other stuff like that.

Now as I was saying earlier, there’s a few things in my brain today and this is another one: going back to the veg tonic concept for my COTWR reboot with the roid rage plot because otherwise how can Wallace get so flipping angry when he’s not canonically an aggressive person, miffed sure but never enraged or violent, Wallace is a precious flower, he’d never hurt anybody, something needs to FEED that emotion otherwise he can’t transform.

Rather than the 18+ steamy symptoms I’m imagining a more Aardman inspired health kick, like the original movie where Gromit was focusing on aiding his masters weight loss by serving him meals consisting of primarily vegetables yet keeping in tow with their modernised living, and what’s quicker to get down than a shot of pure vegetable juice!

Once again everybody is on Wallace’s case about his lack of exercise, sedentary lifestyle cooped up in the basement all hours of the day, maybe there’s been a recent scare in the neighbourhood like one of the locals has been taken ill so understandably Gromits pushing his famous clean living agenda on his master again, serving various forms of complex grains and dense fibres, doing the so many fruits and veg a day thing for the pups, lean meats only, home made slow rise breads, the things influencers push on TikTok.

Following a thrift shop treasure find of a brand new still in box juicer, to make like a little less daunting on Wallace, Gromit decides to juice some of his veg in return for his cooperation regarding their diet plan, he reluctantly agrees to this long as he’s allowed a day square of cheese, a deal is struck and after some time on the tonic Wallace is already feeling a world of better, even their friends notice the difference, and of course, his more than just a lady friend Campanula Tottington, seeing the glow of her handsome partner, she wants to harness the youthful glow and benefits for herself, she requests a small collection, leading to some of the wealthy west wallaby socialites to join the ever growing client list, inadvertently Wallace and Gromit have created a booming business venture without even trying! And already it’s quite the hit, all thanks to Gromits love if thrifting.

Like all good things, they come to end as I’ve mentioned before with this sort of storyline, with the constant demand and lack of crops, Wallace turns to local farmers to fill his vegetable order, resorting to chemical engineering to speed up production, messing with their genetic makeup and beginning to suffer the symptoms of one too many doses of tonic. Instead of the physical side effects (the heart problems), he suffers emotional, similar to someone on medication, inevitably his chipper positivity is sullied by mood fluctuations, suddenly things become too much too fast and it seems like Wallace’s mental state is on a hairpin trigger. Between taking way more than the recommended daily amount of veg, his relationship with DL is reaching boiling point as the two begin to butt heads regarding his healthy eating, the fertiliser and the public’s general safety consuming this new batch. He’s volatile, jittery, easy to annoy and becoming less and less like the inventor they all know and love. It’s getting difficult and with this overwhelming pressure in the household it’s only a matter of time before someone pops, that someone being Wallace.

His underlining, unspoken problems and things that bother him have become too much to handle, brought to the forefront of his subconscious by the overconsumption and irregular mood, old issues he pushed deep down inside bubble to the top to rear their ugly heads, the main being that he never received closure for DL up and running away some years prior, only to return with no word or sense to take responsibility for the hurt they caused, especially to Wallace. He’s on a knife edge constantly, wanting to lash out but how can he when it’s been swept under the rug? Well thanks to the tonic, it’s back, and uglier a thing than ever, that paired with the feeling he’s not in control of his own body via Gromits efforts to keep him alive and well, despite it being a labour of love than the assumption he’s unable to care for himself.

I like the tonic playing the main contender in this idea, making Wallace feel as good as it does terrible. And we don’t know if it’s simply the overdosing of veg or the chemicals he uses to enhance growth speed that transforms him. That’s for the reader to decide

born and raised middle class to a dentist mother and a musician father, calliope was named after the greek muse of song and found their voice and musical talent early on life. while alma rodriguez made good money in the field of dentistry, tomas rodriguez took to the role of stay-at-home father like he'd been born for it. he'd already excelled as a songwriter and music producer in his youth, and therefore considered fatherhood to be his next true calling. due to this, calliope experienced a happy childhood. one that ended abruptly at the tender age of fourteen. after a motorcycle accident resulted in her father's death, calliope became rebellious and inconsolable, developing a dependency on alcohol and falling behind on her studies. only the presence of her mother and childhood best friend helped pull her through, allowing her finish high school and eventually choose to follow in her father's footsteps. a large inheritance from tomas, granted to calliope at the age of twenty-one, allowed them to focus on their dream of becoming a famous musician. a dream they shared with their best friend, who became the second half of a musical duo that spanned over a decade... until tragedy struck once again. a flat tire on a backcountry road led to an incident that changed the duo's lives forever. while their companion was attacked and near completely consumed by an unknown beast, calliope received a severe injury that knocked them unconscious and infected them with lycanthropy. in the wake of the attack, which was officially ruled a bear attack, calliope was forced to try and move on with their life after recovering (oddly quickly) from their injuries and attending their best friend's funeral. it was during the lead up to their first full moon that calliope began to experience strange phenomenon, such as an enhanced sense of smell and an unnatural desire to consume raw red meat. finally, during their first panic filled transformation, calliope located the forests surrounding portum and was able to shift without incident. upon awakening and being greeted by a fellow werewolf, they chose to stay within the city and exchange one childhood dream for another, becoming the owner of a thrift shop that gives a majority of its profit over to various causes within the city. as they soon discovered, however, they hadn't arrived in portum alone, and now they shared both their business and home with the lingering ghost of their best friend.

This is day 2!!!! For my first full day in Paris I woke up very tired due to jet lag, and hearing my roommates coming back late from exploring the different nightlife areas in Paris. On the second day I was able to go and see the Dior Galleria, and was in absolute love! I got to see many of the pieces that I idolized. I wish I could've tried on the dresses for display, but unfortunately the pieces are too delicate to wear. Luckily I was able to create an appointment way in advance to be able to buy my first piece of Dior clothing, and it made me cry because I dreamt of this moment my whole life and was able to also try on some of the dresses from the latest line at the time.

After going to the Dior Galleria I was also given the chance to explore the different fashion houses that were on the most famous street! It was truly an experience to be able to shop, try on clothing, and live a moment in the lifestyle that I truly want. After the exploration of the most famous fashion houses I was then ushered to the Azzedine Alaïa foundation and got to see how him and Madama Grès' dresses were so similar yet so different. Along with being able to see the studio of Alaïa before he died and how it still looks the same even after his death.

Finally as we were able to depart to see Paris by ourselves my small group went out to go thrifting and then decided to explore, but I was left behind and decided to meet my group up at a local fabric store. I didn't see anybody, so I decided to tackle the metro by myself. It was very easy, and the best part about it I got to try Starbucks in another country, and was able to brag about it to my mom who has always wanted to try Starbucks in the EU. While on the metro I was looking at the time and saw that I had to head to the dinner appointment at Chez Edward. When leaving the metro I saw so many designer boards and it was awesome. As I walked to the restaurant I got to see home furnishing places and wanted to buy things from there for my aunt, and decided not to. Food was good as usual, and while everyone went to the Eiffel Tower to take photos I went to bed to wake up energized while everyone woke up groggy again for the second time.
