I got eight beautiful Art Fight attacks, but sadly I only had time to respond to half of them :( In order, they are:
Coran Diabolica, by @coleopterabyte ! Always fun to draw mantis mouthparts, so I thought I'd draw him yawning.
Looby, by @loobydoopoppycock ! Getting a little stuck shapeshifting between forms.
Wabbit, by @wabbitears ! Was inspired to get more experimental with yours, hope you like how it turned out.
Carmen Xotl, by @roboremy ! They seem like a peaceable character, but as soon as I saw they had a thagomizer I had to show it. Not sure what the context is--betrayal by a pupil or colleague, maybe?
It was fun to finally do an Art Fight! Thanks to everyone who launched an attack on Sophodra, and see you all next year!

Art, Honor & More in Southeast Kansas
I was amazed by the variety of art, artists and fun dining options in Southeast Kansas. On a hosted trip from Explore Crawford County Kansas, I saw murals, sculptures, a veteran’s wall and beautiful jewelry. I came in contact with a variety of experiences that make me want to come back and see what I missed! Traveling with a group of Midwest Travel Network bloggers, The Driveby Tourist, Myles To…

This post covers the last section of the art piece I posted for Pride month. (Check it out)
Tumblr media
In this section I drew a lot of symbolism so prepare for an essay lol!
The flowers depicted are Green Carnation, Pansies, Trillium and Lily (as well as a pink rose in the corner but I'm not covering that)
Green Carnation is a symbol of gay men due to the Writer Oscar Wilde popularizing in 1892 as a symbol of men liking men
Pansies are a symbol of gay men mainly because Christopher Loobys book "flowers of manhood" this book made the term Pansy become popular and since then the term pansy for gay men has been positive and negative depending on how it was used.
Trillium is a symbol bisexuality due to it having both male and female sex organs it has been refferd as bisexual in a scientific way. The trillium flower is/was used on the Mexican bisexual flag.
Lilies are a symbol of lesbianism because of the Japanese manga genre of Yuri and Yuri directly translating to "lilies" in English. Yuri is a softer term for lesbianism in Japanese because the actual translation is "Lezu" and that just isn't as soft a the term Yuri.
I encourage you to learn a bit about symbolism in LGBTQIA history yourself because I am not writing everything on this topic.
Flowers depicted below.

Permaculture Design Course
We dialled in from living rooms, bedrooms, caravans and gardens across 11 different time zones, from Abu Dhabi to California (with Brazil and Berlin somewhere in between). Our reasons for being here were all unique and yet all similar; concerns for the future; for the mass extinction event and loss of natural habitats; hoping to learn how to live sustainably; how to grow food naturally; how to produce more than we consume; how to change career; how to live without doing harm; and how to co-create a better world for our children and future generations to grow up in. In the context of one of the biggest worldwide pandemics in living history, this group of strangers met in the timeless hinterland of the online meeting room to explore, share, and learn about positive solutions both now and for our futures...
I stumbled across The Permaculture Design Course quite by accident (as I was looking for ways to make my struggling garden thrive rather than merely survive) but, over the course of a month, this unexpected experience changed my life completely... For the first time in 35 years I feel that I have been given access to a toolkit for living - a set of frameworks, processes and principles which speak entirely to what I feel and know to be real and right - for how to be and live in the world in deeply connected, holistic and sustainable ways... At a moment when I was feeling incredibly helpless and overwhelmed by global and personal circumstances, the PDC and this group of wonderful, disparate strangers, appeared “as if by magic” and turned around the whole way I understand myself, my power, and my place in the world. On my ‘rewriting trauma’ journey the PDC has been an invaluable turning point and has provided me with the maps and materials I most need (though may not have been looking for) for going forwards...
Since finishing the course I have been asked numerous times by friends, family and neighbours “What IS Permaculture, exactly...?” And I have responded with numerous answers (according to who was asking, their reasons for asking and the context in which the question was asked) but I would like to take this opportunity to address that question, in the best way I know how, through the precious and manifold ideas and conversations which came up throughout the course. I want to respond to the question “What is Permaculture?” in this way (rather than offer a singular narrative) because I believe this embodies and reflects much more of the essence of what Permaculture is : a set of principles, processes and frameworks for living which can be tailored to the particular and specific answers and solutions each one of us seeks in our own, unique context.

Word bubble formed from the PDC reactions to the question “How do you define Permaculture?” 2nd June 2020
“You can’t have sustainable food production without sustainable everything else.”
Graham Bell,                                                                                            Online PDC, June 2020
June 2020 was an astonishing and deeply challenging month in so many ways… Personally, I was forced to face the vulnerability of my own situation; my reliance on shop bought food and uncertain income streams when, at the very outset of lockdown, literally all of my work dried up, my partner was made redundant and access to food was scarce and difficult. Then there was worse to come. In the late hours of the 16th of June, my cousin Beth died. The news arrived during one of our PDC sessions. She had been battling secondary and primary breast cancer. This is a heartbreak and a loss I am still trying to understand and process (but one which, had I not been held by this group and this experience, would have been so much harder to deal with).
Meanwhile, on the international stage, people were facing so many additional threats and challenges posed by the Coronavirus Pandemic. The death statistics highlighted the social and economic inequalities, both at home and abroad, particularly along lines of race - with a disproportionate number of deaths and redundancies in people from BBIPOC (Black, Brown, Indigenous, People of Colour) backgrounds. We saw deaths in refugee camps sky rocketing. These statistics were a bitter salt in the wounds of exhaustive and institutional racism which we saw enacted again and again from the refugee crisis in Syria and Yemen to the police murders of George Floyd in Texas, Israel Berry in Oregon, Tracy Downe in Florida and many more besides… Some of us white folx, in waking up to the scale and pervasiveness of institutional and embedded violence towards our African, Asian and South East Asian Diaspora friends, that we (I) started to understand our (my) own white fragility and the systems of dis/advantage which many of us have been complicit in. And it was amidst this context of great uncertainty and upheaval that the PDC took place...
Over the course of the month of June, with three day-long zoom meetings a week and a handful of break out/additional sessions in between, we explored (amongst many things); the ideas and inspirations behind Permaculture; the centrality of Observation; Non Violent Communication; Patterns; Input & Output Analysis; Wild Design; Trees and Soil; Guilds - what they are, how they work, making our own; Arts and Culture(s); Landscape; Climate; Planning for the future; Alternative Exchange Economies; Food and Water; Six Coloured Thinking Hats; Plant Families and Nomenclature; Sociocracy; Healing; Cooperation vs Competition; Zones and Sectors; Needs, Wants and Offers… And many more things besides and between.
Though I was not aware of it at the time (though I might have been, had I read the curriculum and course handbook in advance!) almost the entire first half of the PDC was taken up with the co-creation of a safe and productive learning space and culture.
One of the first questions posed to the participants was from Kate Everett who asked “What makes learning work for you?”
I struggled to identify what had worked for me in the past but could instantly conjure what made learning not work: I thought of GCSE revision, 20 cups of tea a day, desperately cramming information into my head… I thought back to how long it had taken me to learn how to tie shoe laces or to put up a tent because of how much heat and anger there was from my father and his father that I couldn’t just do it… I thought of those feelings of shame, humiliation, stress and of shutting down when I was told I was an idiot and a failure… But then, interestingly, so many others in the group articulated similar experiences - “stress, school, competition”…Some people described themselves as lone wolves, others learnt better in groups, some benefited from working together over a problem or by sharing what they were learning… But what all of us agreed upon was the inhibiting effects of stress on learning and the need to enfold experimentation, play, overview and failure in order to make our learning journeys productive and engaging...
                                                 “Learning is love”
                                                                                                           Graham Bell
Little did we know it at the time but all this information about our individual learning experiences was being observed, gathered and harvested… as we learnt about ourselves and one another we were also learning how to create the best learning (and hence growing) conditions for us as individuals and as a collective. Though we may not have fully realised it as it was happening, we are all in the “inverted classroom” : we had all become the teachers, as well as the students and would learn more from the collective than any single teacher or pedagogy could ever bestow...
Tumblr media
Quotes and prompts I collected throughout the course
“A person who doesn’t make a mistake probably doesn’t make anything”
                                                                                                            Graham Bell
Mark Shiperlee introduced us to the concept of the Culture Board and we begin brain storming what factors are important to measure our course culture against. The factors we decided were of most importance to integrate into, and develop throughout, the course were;
Positive Solutions
Long & Short Breaks
Gift Economy
Time Keeping
Mutual Respect
Fun
Creativity
Task Setting & Reporting
Inclusion
Group Work
Connect With Nature
Throughout the course we would check in on the Culture Board regularly to determine what stage these various factors were at i.e. Seed; Sprout; Leaf; Flower; or Fruit. For me this was a valuable tool in understanding where the group felt our learning journey was at - which areas were working and which were not. It made this an easy, fluid and almost anonymised process and helped to address both the successes and the failures as we went along, understanding where energy needed focusing. This was one of many visual tools, along with The Life Ethics venn diagram, Six Thinking Hats, OBREDIMET, Looby’s Design Web, Input & Output Analysis, PMI (Plus, Minus, Interesting) Analysis, Importance/Urgency Matrix, and Relative Location which I have continued to use in my own Permaculture Life/Design Processes…
Tumblr media
My LIfe Ethics Venn Diagram - i.e. the three main ethics of permaculture”Earth Care”, “People Care” and “Fair Shares” Where they all intersect is the core of Life Ethics
During the course we were also given our own break out Guild groups with whom we had to develop ad present a Permaculture Design Project with (below is ‘an artist’s impression’ of our Guild The Four Acorns - Lynn, Siobhan, Lucy and myself.
Tumblr media
“Though the problems of the world are increasingly complex, the solutions remain embarrassingly simple”
                                                                                                             Bill Mollison
By the third week of the course, with each one of our guild feeling exhausted by various life stresses (illness, work, family, bereavement, etc) we decided the best and most effective design we could work on was one for supporting each other as a guild whilst we embarked upon our permaculture journeys (the one thing which united all of us was that we wished to continue beyond the course).
We started applying some of the tools and processes we acquired throughout the course to our own visions for the future. We started off with Holmgren’s Permaculture Design Principles;
Principle 1. Observe & Interact
We began our guild process by gradually getting to know one another, developing  & discussing  project ideas that would tap into all of our needs & aspirations.
Principle 2.Catch & Store Energy
As we were all feeling a bit burnout we realised we needed to do something that would hold space and energy for us as individuals and a collective i.e. catch and store energy by making and holding space for one another. We wanted to encourage each other to feel safe enough to start exploring with new eyes and to assist each other’s courage in the face of major life changes.
Principle 3.Obtain a yield
We all wanted to carry on our development beyond the course and to share permaculture with others - so we asked the questions “How could we support one another in this?” But, in addition “What renewable resources and services did we have that we could use, share and apply?” and “What could we create - the main yield - within this guild?” We decided that the yield we could create in the present, but carrying into the future, was a space full of loving-support, inspiration, challenge and abundance.
Principle 4. Apply Self-regulation & accept feedback & Principle 5. Use & Value Renewable Resources and Services
As we began using permaculture tools to explore our individual designs, these processes enabled us to support and affirm one another; to share wisdom; tell stories; hear, value and integrate one another as individuals in a guild; become energised and strengthened by our diverse experiences, perspectives, knowledge(s), points of view; and to be challenged and strengthened by processes and making compassionate space for learning through failure too... And believe me, we did fail...
Tumblr media
Mind Map at the outset of my own Permaculture Life Design exploring my assets, helps/opportunities, limitations, needs, aims and potential tools & processes to employ
“It takes shit... literal shit... but then you get humus”
                                                                                                                   Siobhan
On the last day of the course all of the individual guilds presented their design projects and it was amazing to see the wealth, depth and diversity of those ideas and the tools and processes (which we had been given throughout the course) put into action. There were design solutions that addressed; food scarcity; social isolation; mental health issues; segregation; alienation; loss of habitat and species; water shortages; poor health; access to education; job losses; seed sharing; community spaces; and so many more big issues. It was staggering.
In such a short space of time this small group of strangers had come together and, with the support of our guides and course leaders, co-created a network of support from across the world, positively enriching one another and the larger ecosystems each of us are a part of. It was a little island of paradise which cultivated an abundance of new perspectives, hope and courage. By showing us what might be possible and - rather than getting too mired in the negative/things we cannot control - looking to appreciate what we have, what we can be and what we can create together, the PDC taught us how diversity and collaboration can help us, both as individuals and a society, develop resilience in the face of the overwhelming challenges of our times.
It was an experience I will never forget and which I hope to keep alive as I go into the future (remembering to regularly use, sharpen and adapt those valuable tools)...

Fortuity: A Chance Encounter - Prince Jaemin AU [Part 1]
Tumblr media
Fluff | Prince!AU
word count: 2.2K
FemaleBaker!Reader x Prince!Jaemin
Na Jaemin is to inherit the throne as his father, King Na passed on. His coronation is to take place in a few days, although after visiting a small bakery in town his heart is hit with cupid’s arrow, stunned by the beauty of the bakester. [Part 2]
A/N: i had to repost this bc something fucked up,, but here u go!! Prince Jaemin once again reposted!! :))- Doyoung’s Darling
“My prince, your mother has sent me to call you down for your daily training.” The Butler, Suho says placing a hand on the Prince’s shoulder. “You must get going, Prince. Swordsman Jackson is waiting for your arrival.”
“Yes, Suho I’ll be heading there I just need to clean-”
“Oh no, no Prince, you must head down immediately.” Suho rushed Prince Jaemin out of his room. “You only have five minutes until your training starts, and if you’re late oh boy, I will not be hearing the end of it from your mother - claiming me as a lousy butler, and I can not risk losing this job,” Suho said flashing a nervous smile. “Now please, head down to the training grounds - I’ll clean up your work for you.” Suho gestured him to head down. Prince Jaemin bowed and rushed down the stairs.
“Swordsman! Sorry, I-” Jaemin was cut off as Jackson shoved the protective armour into his arms.
“No time to chat! Put these on Prince, let’s practice because I want to take you somewhere today.” Jaemin stood there bewildered but began to slide on his armour. Grabbing the silver sword Jackson held out for him, Prince Jaemin got in position.
“Okay, you remember everything I taught you yesterday?” Swordsman Jackson raised his eyebrows.
Prince Jaemin nodded. “Awareness, strong defence and balance”
“Forgot one, your highness,” Jackson snickered. Jaemin confused furrowing his brows. “Distraction,” Jackson said stomping his left leg once and moving forward, swinging his sword and bringing Jaemin’s up, sweeping it away flying out of his hold landing on the floor. “Remember your highness, use distraction as your secret weapon.”
“Will do, Swordsman.” Jaemin nodded with a smirk. “Now, let’s continue shall we?” he said getting back into position after picking his sword off the ground.
“Of course.” Jackson bowed and the two began to battle once more.
Thus after a long training period of an hour or so, Prince Jaemin and Swordsman Jackson sat back to back in the middle of the matted floor. Sweaty with heavy breaths they congratulated each other for a successful match. Taking a deep breath, the Swordsman spoke,
“Okay my Prince, now I must take you somewhere for a treat.”
“A treat?” Prince Jaemin said catching his breath.
“Yes, a little bakery I found.”
“But, I’m not sure mother would approve of sweets I must-”
“No no, my Prince,” Swordsman Jackson cut him off. “It’ll be okay, I told your mother I would take you for a walk today in the village, I promise you won’t be in trouble if anyone does it’ll for sure be me.”
“Are you sure of such a decision, Swordsman.” Jaemin raised an eyebrow.
“Of course, my Prince you deserve a break and a little treat, as do I because I am craving a blueberry muffin right now,” Jackson said standing up, rubbing his stomach with a pout. Jaemin laughed as he stood up, walking over to put his sword in the rightful place on the wall.
“Then let’s get going!” He flashed a bright smile, throwing an arm around Jackson’s shoulders.
So, the Swordsman and Prince walked through the village to the small bakery. The smiling sun shining down on them, and the villagers bowing down as a kind greeting. The two passed by a small stall selling brooches, Swordsman Jackson brought them off their walk to take a look at the magnificent pieces. Each one made with different diamonds and jewels, some gold, others silver, bronze and even rose.
“My Prince, why don’t you pick one out? It will surely be a great piece to wear at your coronation when you are to become King…” Jackson smirked. “Or when you finally end up passing your training sessions and get to fight like a true Knight, instead of getting your sword flipped out of your hand.” Jaemin playfully elbowed the Swordsman.
“I will improve, I just need practice.” Jaemin put his hands on his waist and stood up straight on his top toes as if he tried to intimidate the Swordsman.
“Nice try my Prince, but you have a long way to go.” Jackson chuckled, putting a hand on Jaemin’s shoulder and pushing him back down on his feet. “Now, which brooch shall we buy?” he turned his attention back to the stall, making eye contact with the elderly merchant and showing a warm smile. The old merchant smiled with slight dirt and yellow stained teeth, but the smile was none the less welcoming. Prince Jaemin looked around in the open boxes for a brooch which would suit him, but could not find one.
“I don’t know Swordsman. Although they are all an incredible sight to look at, I can not find one that satisfies me, which I feel belongs to me.”
“How about this my Prince!” The Swordsman said carefully picking up a large silver dragonfly brooch. It had shining diamonds making up its wings, two tiny red gems for its eyes and the colour of gold for the legs, “this could fit you well.”
Prince Jaemin grabbed the brooch with his index and thumb, carefully inspecting it, “it surely is a beauty.” He spoke. “But, I wish for something a little smaller.” He apologetically smiled.
“Ah, I have something for you then, Prince” the elderly merchant piped up. She reaches down into her side of the stall and pulls out a small red velvet box. “Here, you might like this. It is fit for such a handsome boy like you, and of course a King to be.” Prince Jaemin took a hold of the red velvet box with both hands, putting one under it and opening it with the other. His mouth slightly parted at the handiwork he’d seen. It was a stunning eagle brochure - made of gold, a tiny blue jewel for its eye, and a pearl the bird stood on - leaving the Prince and Swordsman in awe of such gorgeous craftwork.
Jaemin looks up at the elderly merchant,
“I can not take such an art piece from you, you must take it back.”
“No, no, no you must keep it kind Prince. If I were to take it back, I would be left in sadness that you did not want one of my works.” The elderly merchant spoke in a soft voice. “Please keep it, it will bring me great pleasure if you do so.”
“Oh of course, but how much is it? I will pay as much you ask for.”
“Free of charge.” The elderly merchant smiled. “The only payment I ask for is if you wear it, and not treat it as schlock.”
“You must want some type of cash, merchant - I would feel guilty if I were to take this from you like this.” Jaemin pleaded.
The elderly merchant shook her head, “Prince, if you do not already know, I do not sell these brooches for money, I sell them to be kind.” Prince Jaemin looked at her muddled. The elderly merchant continued, “it brings me joy when other’s have happiness, and if that happiness can come from something which I have crafted by my own two hands, that my Prince, is an even greater accomplishment.”
The Prince shifted his gaze from the elderly merchant down to the jewelled brooch. “So, I can really take this for free? As long as it isn’t treated as rubbish?”
“As long as it makes you happy, yes.” The old merchant nodded.
“Then, I shall take it. I shall wear it and remember it as a vow to be happy with little things in life.” Prince Jaemin pledged with his right hand on his chest and a thankful smile.
The merchant smiled, “you should pick one too Swordsman, after all, there is one for everyone.”
Swordsman Jackson lit up, he reached towards one of the brooches taking a hold of a gold brooch shaped like a crest, with a silver knight in the middle. “I’ll take this one if you allow.” The merchant nodded once again, waving them a gentle goodbye. The two smiled at the elderly merchant for the last time as they turned around continuing their walk to the bakery.
“Finally, we’ve made it my Prince!” Jackson gestured towards the small bakery in front of them. Eats and Treats, the sign spelled on the wooden door. “Shall we head in?” he held open the door with a smile and the two walked into the tiny bakery.
The inside walls and oven were made up of fieldstone, five wooden tables placed were composed of the finest redwood. Flour bags took their place beside the stone oven, cups hung on the wall, and bread put on the side shelves near the front.
“Is anyone here Swordsman?”
“The door was open, so someone-”
“Achoo!” The Swordsman and Prince were taken aback by the sudden sneeze and opening of the back door. The sneezing continued as a young woman walked out with clothes covered in flour, and cheeks a tint of red.
“Ah that damned flour bag! Can that looby not do his job properly? I should’ve told him out a long time-” The young woman caught a view of the two males standing in the bakery. “Oh my goodness! I am so sorry for the inconvenience, my apologies.” The young woman rushed over to the two, she flashed a smile giving a curtsey. “Excuse my appearance, but how may I be of your service today?”
Prince Jaemin stood astonished at the young bakester in front of him. She wore a long tattered gown faded of its beige colour, flour stained her clothes, some in her hair and smudged on her right cheek. Despite her unkempt appearance, the Prince found himself struck by her beauty. Her eyes looked to hold the stars, alluring lips which he craved to lay his upon and her divine figure left him dumbfounded. To him she was the quintessence of pulchritude; she was beauty.
“You know you’ll get a fly in your mouth if you keep your mouth open like that.” The bakester let out a giggle snapping Jaemin out of his trance. His cheeks developed a pink tinge, he turned his gaze down to the floor in embarrassment as he heard the bakester and swordsman’s laughter. Bowing with an apologetic smile for staring Jaemin avoided eye contact with the girl.
“Sorry for that, but may I ask what your treats are for today?” Jackson smiled brightly. “We have to be heading back soon.”
“Our special for today is banana bread, is that fine?” The bakester kindly smiled.
“Perfect! My Prince would you…” Jackson trailed off as he saw Jaemin lost in thought waving a hand in front of his face, taking Jaemin out of his daze. “would you wish to have banana bread?”
“Yes, banana bread would be nice,” Jaemin said flustered over his unintentional stares. The bakester walks over to the stone oven throwing in another wood to increase the fire. Picking up a bread piece from the side shelves she places it into the oven allowing it to warm up. Prince Jaemin looked at her as if she was a piece of delicate artwork. He was solicitous about wanting to know the girl who made his heart swoon. Her name, her likes and dislikes, he wanted to know everything but could he? Being a Prince soon to be King would he be able to?
Finishing the preparation of the banana bread, the bakester placed it in a brown paper bag and handed it to the two with a kind smile. Prince Jaemin and Swordsman Jackson thanked the bakester for her service as they walked out of the bakery.
“Wow, I never thought the highness would make such a jest of himself.” Jackson teased the Prince. “Especially not over a commoner who sells bread.”
“The universe is full of wonders Swordsman, and that bakester is one of them,” Jaemin replies sheepishly causing Jackson to laugh.
“Perhaps you should ask her to attend your coronation next week, my Prince.”
“Oh yes! I’ll return again morrow and hopefully, she accepts.”
“Maybe ask for her name as well,” Jackson said munching on his banana bread making the Prince stop in his tracks.
“Alack! I can not believe to be such a looby! I forgot to ask her name!” Jaemin face-palmed in disbelief - he forgot to ask her name. He was truly an idiot.
“All the more reason for you to return morrow, my Prince,” Jackson said with a face full of banana bread. “I recommend in a more flattering outfit as well.” Jackson once-overs Jaemin. The Prince looks down at his outfit and realizes he still wore his armour from training, mentally slapping himself for being such a fool. Although he never expected to have such an encounter. “Or you can show up in this again and tell her you’re her Knight-” Jaemin smacked his back, Jackson spitting out his banana bread turning into a fit of laughter.
And so, the Prince and Swordsman dawdled back to the castle returning to their duties.
That night Prince Jaemin lay in bed, mind filled with thoughts of the comely bakester. She had a type of elegance and charm from simplicity. He was determined to meet her once again with a glimmer of faith for her to be his, and he her’s. He was truly smitten but could not care as his thoughts would not fathom most except linger on the comely commoner.

APRIL 2019
Tumblr media
Back in Haiti
After spending two months in the Dominican Republic, I  came back to Haiti on April 7. It’s been good to be back here and catch up with friends. Noah and Marcee (missionaries and good friends) are pregnant! I already knew when I left, but when I got back it was crazy to find out that they already knew the gender of the baby and had a name picked out! Harper—whose silly face is featured above—and Bruce are going to be a big sister and a big brother!
I also came back to the news that Joe, one of the art vendors on the street where I sometimes hang out, became a Christian while I was in the Dominican Republic! Along those same lines, last weekend, we hosted a showing of The Jesus Film here on campus, and two youth became Christians as well! Praise God for the expansion of His kingdom and growing our family in Christ!

The Guys
There are a few guys close to my age that live nearby that I’ve become friends with over the years. When I got back, we jumped right back into prayer and Bible study on Thursdays with my new roommate, Wil. Fritho, Frandy, and Looby became Christians last year and are growing rapidly in their faith! Sony has been a Christian for a while. We have a lot of good conversations. Along with Bible study, they are all trying to get me back in shape by dragging me to the gym after work every day.
This past Sunday night we got to a soccer game that our church’s team was competing in. It started storming just before kickoff. So, the stands under the awning got super crowded! The game finally got started and we dominated 6-2!

HaitiOne Conference
Friday, we hosted a conference for leaders of churches and other non-government organizations (NGOs). The theme was Ministry in Crisis: Collaboration and Coordination in Political and Civil Unrest. As you may be aware, the US Embassy in Haiti issued a Level 4 travel advisory earlier this year, which nullifies most American insurance policies. This is still in effect. Also, the Haitian government is trying to increase revenue by enforcing new restrictions and fees on NGOs. At the same time, many organizations are struggling financially. All this has forced many foreigners and NGOs to reduce their activity. Some have left altogether. So, many churches and ministries are struggling financially, having lost networks and partnerships.
The goal of this conference was two-fold. First, to give leaders the tools to continue ministry in this difficult environment by collaborating and sharing resources. Second, to continue to build a network of organizations throughout Haiti that can collaborate and respond to natural disasters and other emergencies.
Prayer Requests
The country of Haiti // The government is struggling to stabilize the economy and political situation. The people are suffering from inflation, fuel shortage, lack of jobs, and political unrest.
Mission of Hope in the Dominican Republic // We are seeking to establish good relationships and learn where we fit in advancing God’s kingdom in the Dominican Republic.
The Guys // We meet together for Bible study and prayer every Thursday at 5:00 pm. We are always praying for wisdom and discernment in all aspects of life.
New Christians // Pray for new Christians as they start the journey of being transformed into the image of Christ!
Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers.
Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
Ephesians 5:1-2

Pet Scoop: Senior Dog Stays By Late Friend’s Side, Pence Brings Pets to Washington
Tumblr media
Jan. 10, 2017: We’ve scoured the Web to find the best and most compelling animal stories, videos and photos. And it’s all right here.

Loyal Dog Refuses to Leave Pal
When his elderly friend was apparently fatally hit by a car in Jonesboro, Arkansas, last week, a loyal dog refused to leave her side. The Shepherd mix, a senior himself, held vigil by her side and wasn’t willing to leave when animal control officers were called to the scene. “He pretty well refused to leave,” Owens said. “Me and another officer had to pick him up and put him in the back of our truck. Then we had to pick her up and put her in the back of the truck and it seemed to calm him down a little bit when we picked her up, but he was still wanting to try and get over to the next kennel.” Owens believes the poor pup has an owner because he’s friendly and looks well cared for, but so far, no one has come forward. He will be put up for adoption on Friday if no owner is found. — Read it at People Pets
Rare Baby Iguana Gives Scientists Hope
While conducting a population survey on Malolo Island in Fiji, scientists with San Diego Zoo Global were delighted to find an unexpected resident: a baby Fijian crested iguana. The critically endangered iguana was thought to be extinct on the island until 2010, when a few of the reptiles were found in a small patch of forest. The baby makes 31 iguanas known to be living on the island. The scientists decided to take the baby in and care for him in captivity until he’s a little bigger and more able to protect himself from predators. He’ll be released back into the wild when they’re more confident he will survive. — Read it at Seeker
6 Cubs Keep Cheetah Mom Busy
A litter of six frisky cubs means mom has her paws full at Burgers’ Zoo in the Netherlands. The cubs were born on Sept. 14 and recently explored the outdoors for the first time, with mom keeping a close eye on them. But amazingly, this mom has done this before. This is her second litter of six cubs. Only about 5 percent of cheetah litters are that large — most have three or four cubs at a time. The beautiful spotted babies are still nursing but have started to eat meat, too. — See photos at Zooborns

Pences and Pets Move to D.C.
Donald Trump may be the first president in decades not to have a dog in the White House, but his vice president, Mike Pence, might be making up for that. The VP-to-be and his family officially made their move from Indiana on Monday, and Tweeted a photo of himself on board an Air Force plane with his wife, Karen, and daughter Charlotte along with their two cats, Oreo and Pickle, and their bunny, Marlon Bundo. The Pence family’s 13-year-old Beagle, Maverick, sadly passed away about two weeks before the election. — Read it at Twitter via Mike Pence
Dog Abandoned With Trash Gets Adopted
After a difficult end to 2016, a Pit Bull and Labrador Retriever mix who was sadly left out with the trash when his owners were evicted from their Detroit home in December now has the loving home he deserves. Ollie-Loo was found sitting on a chair waiting for his former family to come back for him in frigid temperatures. The friendly dog didn’t hesitate to jump into a nice warm car when Detroit Animal Welfare Group volunteer Terri Looby went to pick him up. Ollie was underweight and suffering from a broken leg that required surgery. His luck soon changed, when he met Art, his foster dad, who saw Ollie’s story on the news and felt a connection to the dog. “He loves Ollie and Ollie loves him just as much. They found each other,” Looby said. On Saturday, it became official when Ollie’s adoption was finalized. — Watch it from Inside Edition via Yahoo
