Been getting an influx of obvious spam/porn bots and also blank blogs in my follows the past couple weeks so I guess this is a good time to state my policy on the latter again:

I don’t block blank blogs that follow me on sight if they have usernames that look like a person might’ve chosen them (ie not a random mash of letters and numbers). This is because it’s possible these blogs might be real users brand new to tumblr (or newly remaking etc).

However, I do go back and check and if after 1-2 weeks (whenever I remember to check) the blog still has not been customized with an icon etc and still has zero content, even likes? Blocked. If it has likes or other content but those seem…sus to me in very specific ways I won’t get into? Blocked. This is because I have decided that either the blog is a bot, is not intending to truly use tumblr anytime soon, or may be something more annoying or outright harmful specifically to me.

So if you’re new to tumblr and just followed me, hi! Please start using tumblr by reblogging and liking posts! I hope you’ll enjoy your time here. But…I’ll block you if you don’t actually use your blog. Sorry!

ohhhh but it's so fascinating to me to see the ways ray's struggle with the mew vs. sand situation is the perfect mirror to sand's struggle with the boeing vs. ray situation. in so many ways the 2 cases are so similar, but it's the ways in which they are different are what make it so interesting.

both sand and ray started off this series being haunted by 'what-ifs' in their respective love lives. ray was haunted by a love he'd always wanted but never had. sand was haunted by a love he'd once had but then lost.

even just in ray and sand's dialogues, there are clear parallels in the way they talk about the hold the previous what-if holds over them:

right when it seems like ray is about to move on with sand, he finally gets a chance with mew. ray has wanted it for so long that he immediately jumps at the chance without even thinking of the consequences, almost like a knee-jerk reaction.

sand gives ray an ultimatum: it's either me or mew. but i will not wait for you, and i only want you to choose me if it's me that you really want - i do not want to be the second choice.

and so, ray lets go of mew and chooses sand - but then the script flips.

right when it seems like sand and ray are about to start a new beginning, now you have sand getting his (second) chance with boeing. sand has spent so long bemoaning the loss of his "stolen" love that he's way caught off guard by boeing's sudden reappearance and remorse, by sand's expression you'd think it's almost as if he'd unconsciously fallen right back into the headspace he'd been a year ago when it was just him and boeing.

ray gives sand an ultimatum, too: it's either me or boeing. i'll always be second so as long as he's around, so if you want to choose me - then you will also have to let him go for good.

their situations are almost inverses in a way as well. sand asks ray to choose once and for all to avoid being ray's second choice time and time again. ray asks sand to choose while admitting he is in the 'second string' position, yet still wanting to prove that sand is still ray's first and only choice, and that ray has no qualms about blatantly fighting for him.

another interesting parallel: even though ray has definitely chosen sand by the time he and mew have their Talk in ep9, ray still lets mew do most of the talking when they call it quits. it's what seals the deal for ray that he really does just love mew as a friend. you can see it in the way ray's i love you to mew comes out much more self-assured.

similarly, even though sand has 100% chosen ray by the time boeing shows up with the arctic monkey tickets, sand still lets ray do most of the talking to ward boeing off. it's what seals the deal for sand that not only has ray chosen him, but more importantly that ray will stay. you can see it in the way sand's demeanor is so much more relaxed after ray shows up. (mew is even there to give his final blessing to the couple lol)

there's more parallels with these two cases that i could go on about i'm sure, but more than anything i love that it fits with the theme of everything in this show happening twice - and often, it is the character growth that shines through in the differences between the parallels.

The other day, I started up Sims3 again - I desperatly wanted to play World Adventures. I haven't touched that game for years so it was a little bit of a re-learning curve but then... damn this game is so much fun! WA is still one of the best expansion packs I have ever had the pleasure of playing.

Canary & Sons' Small Piano-Forte

Voilà! I am happy to present my own "square piano" for your historical sims to hone their piano skills!

In an age when domestic music making was usually accompanied by a lady at the harpsichord or Spinnet, the advent of the square piano was hugely significant. These compact pianos were designed and made by John Zumpe and sold from his house and workshop in Princes Street, at the north-east corner of Hanover Square. The oldest surviving examples are dated 1766. Many harpsichord players took to them immediately – their tone sounded so charming to ears that had known nothing but the harpsichord and organ – and these 'small Piano-fortes' were so inexpensive! Plain examples sold for as little as £18 – about half the cost of a single-manual harpsichord from Jacob Kirckman or Burkat Shudi (these being the two leading makers). For thirty years the harpsichord and piano-forte existed side by side, regarded as equally useful instruments, depending on what music you wished to play. Consequently, in many homes, in London or in Paris, you might find both instruments, often in the same room, their owners deciding that a 'small Piano-forte' could be readily accommodated. It would take up little space, and when closed it looked much like a side table. (source)

Following manymany tutorials, I have decided on my finished product.

It is a fully closed square piano, with loads of deco slots on it, so you can clutter up the place, while still managing to practice your playing.

I decided on just two wood shades, and for variety, there's 9 different stool cushion covers.

There's so many different designs of square pianos. Some have pedals, some don't - some have levers, and dampeners.... There'd be parts of the top which open - so that you can see the strings, and tune when needed (or to increase the volume). From 1768 onwards, three levers were installed in that small space to the left of the keyboard - so this would open up as well, in order to access these.

I had to decide how much I wanted - do I want it open at all? If so, both sections? I am not really very good at making things in blender, so it worked out better for me to do it closed up.

I also decided to keep pedals: though I don't recall seeing an animation where the sim presses the pedals, the game has cones here for pressing, so it's definitely possible!

I worked supersuper hard on this, so I really hope you all like it!
