The title card at the beginning of ofmd s2 ep5, The Curse of the Seafaring life, where the title is written in blood that’s being scrubbed away by a disembodied hand, makes me soooooo crazy. It’s so perfect. It wonderfully captures the thematic core of the episode. Episode 5 is the washing the blood away episode. it’s the episode where our characters just kind of chill, reconcile, rebuild themselves after the kraken incident. So of course the title is blood being washed away. Ed’s arc in the episode is washing the metaphorical blood off his hands as he tries to reintegrate himself into the crew. Lucius is moving on, trying to quit picking his scabs for a change…washing the blood away. Izzy is whittling sharks. 10/10 no notes.

Another note I forgor to mention is I love how after hearing Simon go "it's enough to make your hair turn white" about Martin's office in s4 many of us collectively agreed his hair turned white because of his association with the Lonely. The shared consciousness is real and we use it to play hot potato with the communal brain cell dedicated to the sillies.

Here's some of my favorite Crowley on laudanum moments, just because:

1. Death is "just wrONGGG", Crowley said so. No more dying.

2. Because if you don't get high and improvise the unofficial anthem of Scotland (it's canon, Crowley improvised it), what are you even doing with your overly long life?

3. This lil dance is the best, I swear.

4. Reminder, he's looking at a graveyard, at night.

6. It was dark, he was wearing sunglasses, and he was high. Leave him alone.

no villain speech has ever stuck with me like robert moses’ short manifesto from his conversation with kingston. people think they make choices. they think they’re gonna steer left, or steer right. but they didn’t build the roads. the big choices already got made for them, a long time ago.

because he’s RIGHT. not about his takeaway, obviously, which is just “and that’s how it should be.” but the statement itself is true. they DIDN’T build the roads. people are told over and over that because they “make choices” the outcomes of those choices are their responsibility, and that it’s freedom, even. they think they’re gonna choose to steer left, and then they crash. they choose which auto insurance they have. they choose what new car to buy. and that’s freedom. but they didn’t choose to be required to drive a dangerous vehicle an hour away to work their life away at a job they don’t care about just to keep themselves alive. they can only live their lives in a narrow framework, a structure sustained by a threat of imprisonment and violence. they didn’t build the system. they didn’t build the country, or even the concept of a country. they didn’t build the laws, they didn’t build the city, and they sure as hell didn’t build the roads.

ive been finally looking at s5 daisy art, and i LOVE the wolf monster motif, but HEAR ME OUT on a hyena like Hunt avatar. HEAR ME OUT!!!

hyenas are already deeply uncanny looking, with their big grins, long necks, and beady eyes. that's great in the horror aspect, obviously.

but theyre also FAST. they can run up to 40mph (64.4 kmph), and can run for a surprisingly long time without tiring. lone hyenas hunt far more than they scavenge, and they have a success rate of around 74%, compared to a lions 21%, and a wolfs 20%.

also. could you imagine being hunted down by something that used to be human, thats laughing like a spotted hyena? that incessant giggling would be downright frightening.

not to mention, spotted hyenas have one of the strongest recorded bite forces of carnivorous mammals, clocking in at 1,011 pounds (458.5 kg) of force

i think this turned into me raving about hyenas. sorry. MY POINT WAS. hyena-esque Hunt avatars would be terrifying

Okay I want to shoutout Beth May. She gave killer performances as both Scary and Ron.

Ron telling Terry that "I don't think you've been someone you'd choose to be be around lately." KILLED ME. It got me right in the heart. Ron is a good father to his kid. Even when Terry did something that he couldn't take back, Ron was still there to care for him, but he didn't downplay Terry's actions or pretend like he didn't do anything wrong. The actions of the kiddads (especially code purple) have been a sort of gordian knot this season, and Beth sliced through it in a way that was profound and raw and beautiful and felt like real actual IRL parenting. That moment means the world to me.

And Scary. God damn. Everything about her conversation with Terry makes me want to cry. Referring to her dad as her Biological Father, telling him that she's glad to see him, telling him that he doesn't deserve this (both being in hell for it and punishing himself by holding onto the guilt), and being grateful that he was present. We've spent a lot of time on Scary's Guilt this year and having her see that guilt in someone else and forgive them for their actions is so good. I don't know if that was an Anthony move or a Beth move, but thank you for doing that. It's something I relate to a lot and it's so meaningful to see.

Anyway, pointless tattoo plotting. For myself. I don’t think it’s wise to consider what is basically an upper arm sleeve for my first, but it’s fantasy land if it’s just in the sketchbook and honestly? Anything to kick at the art block.

It’s all birds: blue Jay and Baltimore oriole, with fresh spring green ash leaves and an autumnal red oak. And maybe a hexagon in there somewhere, I can’t sort that out.

Anyway, this would encapsulate a lot of my favorite things in one go. All that’s missing is bugs! And a loon and pines, but that’s going on the other arm!

Maybe it’s futile to say this, but this humble scribble is for my use only.
