Okay. I hate doing this, but I need help.
I can use a bus to get to dr appointments, but getting home would require walking that I cannot physically manage & all my attempts to find assistance have failed. (and a new used vehicle is $$$).
A taxi/uber/what have you is estimated to be $30-$40, one-way, but our budget is way too tight to do that five times in January (plus three more in February).
I'm putting in an application for county paratransit, but it will take a while & needs a doctor for one page of the eight.
If you can help, I can't offer anything other than profusive thanks, but you would have that.

edit: 3ish (depending on estimate accuracy) of 5 appointments accessible. Thank you so very very much. *chopping some onions here*
edit 2: Mom chauffered trip to the grocery store saved an extra delivery fee, plus one non-urgent appointment rescheduled to late February, so I should be good.

Cornea Transplant Surgery Cost In India | HCH — Healthcare In Your Hand | Medical Tourism
Cornea transplant surgery is a procedure that involves replacing a damaged or diseased cornea with a healthy one. This surgical intervention is crucial for restoring vision and improving the quality of life for individuals suffering from various eye conditions. In India, the cost of cornea transplant surgery can vary depending on several factors such as the hospital, surgeon’s fees, type of cornea transplant, and post-operative care required.
One of the key factors influencing the cost of cornea transplant surgery in India is the type of procedure performed. There are three main types of cornea transplant surgeries: penetrating keratoplasty (PK), deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK), and endothelial keratoplasty (EK). The cost of each procedure can vary, with PK being the most expensive due to its complexity and the amount of skill and expertise required from the surgeon.
On average, a cornea transplant surgery in India Starts from USD 1999.
Apart from the surgical costs, patients undergoing cornea transplant surgery in India need to account for other expenses such as pre-operative tests, hospitalization charges, medication, post-operative check-ups, and follow-up consultations. These additional costs can vary based on the hospital’s location, facilities, and the individual patient’s healthcare needs.
Healthcare facilities like government hospitals, private hospitals, and eye care clinics across India offer cornea transplant surgeries at different price points. While government hospitals may provide low-cost or subsidized surgeries for economically disadvantaged patients, private hospitals and specialized eye care centers often charge higher fees for their services.
It is essential for patients considering cornea transplant surgery to inquire about all the costs involved by consulting with the healthcare provider or hospital. Additionally, patients should discuss the possibility of financial assistance, insurance coverage, or payment plans to manage the expenses associated with the surgery.
In conclusion, the cost of cornea transplant surgery in India for hospitals and healthcare facilities may vary based on multiple factors such as the type of procedure, surgeon’s fees, pre and post-operative care, and the hospital’s location and reputation. To make an informed decision about undergoing cornea transplant surgery, patients should thoroughly research their options, seek guidance from healthcare professionals, and consider all financial implications related to the procedure

Medical Tourism: Risks of Medical Tourism
Risks of Medical Tourism
There are several risks of medical tourism. Some of these include legal risks. Service providers and operators may not be bound by their legal obligations during the transition. They may also be exploring a "vacuum zone" that conflicts with existing laws. Infections can also be associated with medical tourism. Therefore, it is important to understand the risks before making any decisions.
Health risks
Tumblr media
Many health care professionals are concerned about the risks of medical tourism. These concerns are often couched in the context of larger health equity issues. Experts in the field of infection control and blood safety confirm that medical tourism raises health risks. For example, some patients returning home with infectious disease could put other patients at risk.
Medical tourism
Medical tourism is a common practice of traveling to another country for medical treatment. Millions of US citizens have gone abroad for treatment. Most commonly, they go to Mexico, Canada, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. Many of these patients do so to receive care that is less expensive and more culturally compatible. Unfortunately, the health care practices of these countries can lead to serious illnesses and complications.
Common Complication of Medical Tourism
Among the most common complications of medical tourism are wound infections, bloodstream infections, and donor-derived infections. Patients may also contract diseases such as hepatitis B and C.
Patients traveling to other countries are also at a higher risk of contracting antibiotic-resistant infections. Infections caused by highly drug-resistant bacteria can cause life-threatening conditions for tourists.
Cost savings potential
Medical tourism offers many advantages, including a lower cost of care. Because the services are more affordable than in the US, medical tourists can save money on the cost of their medical care. The potential savings can be significant, and medical tourism can even be a good option for people without health insurance. However, the amount of savings can depend on a number of factors. First, some medical procedures are not covered by US health insurance.
In addition, medical tourism can bring in a significant source of revenue. Large trusts and insurance companies may find it useful to attract medical tourists to their facilities. Medical tourism is likely to remain a niche market for the time being, but it is expected to be lucrative in the future. Further research is needed to understand the economics of medical tourism.
Additional Source of Income
Medical tourism can be a valuable source of additional income for the NHS. However, it is important to note that it can also pose a number of disadvantages. While it may allow patients to bypass domestic wait lists and save money, it can also increase costs of follow-up care.
For example, a recent study in Alberta showed that bariatric surgery performed in Alberta is more costly and has higher complication rates than local bariatric surgery.
Impact on local health care system
It can help overcome the shortage of health care professionals and infrastructure in the destination country. Moreover, it can help clear a backlog of patients in countries with long waiting lists. This also allows governments to provide comprehensive health care coverage without incurring additional costs.
Generally, this process occurs in the private sector, but in some cases, public hospitals have opened private clinics to attract foreign patients. Many private health care providers have also upgraded their facilities to attract international patients. This has led to a significant improvement in the quality of the health care system in developing countries. The increased availability of high-quality facilities and a diverse medical expertise can also reduce the country's dependence on foreign hard currency.
Doctor’s Demand
In some developing countries, the demand for doctors may be three times greater than the number of residents living in the country. As a result, a shortage of medical specialists could occur.
In addition, foreign patients will compete for the same medical resources with local residents. The shortage of medical staff in the host country may exacerbate health inequities in the country.
Infections associated with medical tourism
Infections associated with medical tourism can be serious. Some patients may not be aware that they have an infection until they return home. This can lead to a delayed diagnosis, reduced functionality, and even financial hardship. It is important to seek internationally accredited medical facilities, and make sure that all clinicians perform the necessary tests.
Many medical tourists are also exposed to antibiotic-resistant organisms when they are abroad, and this could pose a threat to public health. This makes it important to collect detailed information about medical tourism patients before they leave the country. This information can help reduce the incidence of infections associated with medical tourism. In addition, patients should be warned to seek medical care immediately if complications develop.
