Part 8 of Chapter 2

It was an assembly day, and all the students had to gather inside the school's auditorium. Akira sat with her friends, waiting for the assembly to begin.

As she looked around, she noticed that there were five more students on the stage. They were all wearing the same blazers and skirts, indicating that they were the members of the student council.

Akira recognized two of the members, Yuna Suzuki and Ayumi Fujimoto, but she didn't know who the others were. She was curious to find out, so she turned to her friends.

"Hey, do you guys know who the other members of the student council are?" Akira asked.

"I don't, but we could ask Yuna or Ayumi," Megumi suggested.

Akira nodded, and they made their way to the front of the auditorium. When they got to the stage, Yuna and Ayumi greeted them warmly.

"Hey, guys! What brings you here?" Yuna asked.

"We were just wondering who the other members of the student council are," Akira said, smiling.

Yuna introduced them to the other members. "This is Ryota Yamazaki, the president, Kenta Shimizu, the vice president, Mia Kaneko, the secretary, Yuji Fukuda, the treasurer, and Mio Fujiwara, the event planner."

Akira and her friends greeted the student council members, feeling happy to make new friends. They all talked for a while before the assembly began, and Akira couldn't help but feel grateful for the welcoming community she had at school.

As the assembly went on, the student council talked about their plans for the upcoming school events, and Akira felt excited to participate. She knew that with the help of her friends and the new members of the student council, they could make a difference and make their school a better place.

Akira looked around at her friends and the members of the student council, feeling more connected and empowered than ever before. They were all in this together, ready to take on any challenge that came their way and make a positive impact in their school and community.

New Danganronpa games confirmed to be in the works (+ other stuff)

Spike Chunsoft published a thing just yesterday (10/19/21) promoting Danganronpa S and boasting about the fact that the Danganronpa series has now shipped 5 million physical units worldwide (that's just the number of games sold directly to retailers, not sold through to consumers, but it's still pretty cool). But that kind of buries the lede, which is really this:

OH, WORM?!

"Multiple genres," did you spake?!

What're we talking about here? We'd logically assume that a new killing game/visual novel is probably among them, right? And/or perhaps the rise of the long-discussed Danganronpa Fighting Game? Dare we hope for the return of Ultra Despair Girls for its much-requested sequel? Perhaps more virtual board games/RPGs like Danganronpa S?

In fairness, these could literally include *anything* at *any* stage of development, honestly. These future games could be little more than general concepts written on a sheet of paper that they are currently targeting for Fiscal Year 2026 or some crap. And "games" could mean as little as two. Furthermore, they could include a mobile gacha game, even. It's possible! Recommend that you set your expectations to “low” for now. 

But just knowing that they have multiple games of any type that are at least vaguely in the current pipeline? FEELS REAL GOOD, MAN.

On 11/27/21, Spike Chunsoft will host a livestream called "Danganronpa 10th Anniversary: Ultimate Class Reunion." There will be two "performances" of the event that day, and sadly you must obtain tickets to access the stream. Guests currently scheduled to appear include Japanese voice actors Megumi Ogata (Makoto Naegi and Nagito Komaeda), Kikuko Inoue (Kirumi Tojo), Megumi Toyoguchi (Junko Enoshima), and Masaya Matsukaze (Yasuhiro Hagakure) plus Music Directors Masafumi Takada and Jun Fukuda.

The DLC/"microtransactions" for Danganronpa S have been detailed. Rather than leaving your ability to obtain character cards up to fate, you can purchase the ability to obtain any specific card you want in bundles of 1 card, 3 cards, or 5 specific cards. The pricing isn't too greedy, if nothing else. It goes like this: - 1 card = $0.99 - 3 cards = $1.99 - 5 cards = $2.99 - 3 cards (this deal can only be bought once) = $0.99

The "presents" used in FTEs in previous Danganronpa games can be obtained in DRS and used to provide effects during gameplay. For example, you might get Gundham's Hellhound Earring, and using it will add +2 to your Fortitude whenever you level up. However, once used, the presents are consumed...

For the purposes of the story in Danganronpa S, the characters already all know each other. The posting explains that the Ultra Despair Girls characters seem to have all met each other during a field trip that Komaru took to Towa City.

In Danganronpa S, there are also 600 (!!!) "Hype Cards" to collect that enhance character abilities or increase their max growth capacity. There are 9 Hype Cards for each character, and they all shown off illustrations of the characters from various artists (seemingly pulled from existing products or art we've seen before; see below for examples). "Once a Hype Card is drawn for any character, it will come into effect regardless of the character rarity or game mode they are used in (board game or Tower of Despair)."

The goods for the special Danganronpa 10th anniversary live event, Ultimate Class Reunion have been announced!

The event will be held on 27 November, at Tokorozawa Sakura Town Japan Pavillion, and the guests include Megumi Ogata (Naegi and Komaeda’s voice actor), Kikuko Inoue (Kirumi’s voice actor), Masafumi Takada (music composer) and Jun Fukuda (sound director). There will be live performances of music from the series as well.

The Hall A ticket costs 16,500 yen and includes a t-shirt, penlight, blanket and clear file.

The Hall B ticket costs 9,900 yen and includes the t-shirt and clear file.

for a long time now (since i ran that poll of people’s favorites) i’ve been thinking about the category of “kamen rider heroine” and what exactly it means.

i arrived at 2 general things that many rider heroines seem to have in common, which in turn finally led me to create a chart to see just how true those things are on average. here are my findings.

(in advance, to further clarify what i mean in the 2nd column, an ability/attribute here generally refers to a special power or unique state of existence that sets them apart from other people.)

thus, by my count, 19 out of 27 or 70% of rider heroines to date fit one or both of my criteria.

i’ll put my notes and further thoughts under a cut.

firstly, on exclusions.

the mizuki sisters from x were left out due to being in the show for too few episodes (even less than ruriko) for me to really consider either of them the show’s heroine, not to mention i simply don’t feel they fit the role.

i imagine there must have been a “main girl” in skyrider but i genuinely do not remember her at all.

similarly, i can’t recall much of anything about the girl in super-1.

i’m hard pressed to choose who from hibiki would be the “heroine” and applying typical rider tropes to hibiki to begin with is usually an exercise in futility.

now, show/character-specific comments.

yuriko - she does have a notable male family member, her brother, who (sort of) appears in-show but only for 1 episode iirc, making him not exactly “story important.”

sakurako & kuuga - what’s interesting is that mika fits the profile of a rider heroine better than sakurako does, and i wonder if, had kuuga either aired a few years earlier or been conceived of a few years later, the character of mika would’ve been aged up and made into the heroine instead. or maybe kuuga would’ve been special no matter when it happened.

megumi - i waffled about her check mark in the 2nd column bc being a fangire hunter is basically just her job, right? it’s not like it’s something intrinsic/beyond her control. but in a sense it also was, as something passed down to her by her mom. and the plot such that it is in kiva is fixated heavily enough on the connection between the 2 generations that it seemed appropriate to count it.

yuki & fourze - yuki might not fit either of my rider heroine criteria, but funnily enough... kengo fits both of them. just throwing that out there.

izu - i get the impression some consider aruto’s grandpa her “dad” for creating her, but. hell if i know. and even after watching y’all blog extensively about this show, and reading her wiki page... i still truly do not know if she fits the 2nd column. i’ll just let the zero one scholars make up their own minds on izu.

final thoughts:

an interesting dive. while not a perfect metric, i can’t help but note that the modern shows that totally forego the classic heroine formula usually end up with a leading lady who feels maybe a little “realer” as a person and who’s remembered positively by fans (those with good taste, i mean).

mr fukuda in particular seems to prefer heroines who’re simply very good friends with the lead hero and choose to enthusiastically involve themselves in the things going on around him. which is refreshing in a way.

while giving a heroine a unique plot-related power can work when done well, i don’t think i’d be sad to see “relation to important male character” be thrown out entirely as a facet of rider heroines. when that is the only thing that initially ties them to a story it can feel a little devoid of agency no matter the events that might follow. especially since the “important man” is usually a dad or fatherly older brother.

Danganronpa 10th Anniversary Event Cast Appearances Revealed

  The Danganronpa 10th Anniversary Event: Ultimate Class Reunion live stream is scheduled with a Day Performance on Saturday, November 27 at 3:00pm Japan Time, followed by a Night Performance at 6:30pm Japan Time. In addition to a live performance of popular songs from the series, the event will feature a look back at the past decade with fans and guests, and the latest update is here with the cast members who will be making an appearance.
