Hello! I am pleased about your continued existence. Given that you are fundamentally a different creature from the human norm, do your music tastes also lean towards the odd and inhuman? Any recommendations?

You’ll laugh if I tell you.

You see I’ve ridden every trend, every new event, or neat little ear worm. Currently my obsession is cover bands or songs. I like hearing music done in different styles. I can sing along without too much effort.

I’ve given up feeling certain humanity has reached the end of its ingenuity and creativity. Every time I get pessimistic, you go and do something like fly to the moon. So…I just find what I like and wait for the next interesting thing.

I’ve quite enjoyed Lizzo and Lil Naz X. To me their careers have said something. Additionally, I like Lady Gaga and enjoy that she calls her fans monsters. I like the new waves of songs about change or having integrity. Nathans. Always fun.

In terms of classical music, I enjoy complexity, fugues, overlapping themes. I like sound that envelops. For a sample of the sort of thing I enjoy, listen to Max Richter’s “November” from the Memoryhouse album. I love to turn it up, on my special sound locking headphones. I lay stretched out on a beam or the floor and I let it swallow me up. Somehow the world goes silent even though I know I can still hear it if I try. I simply cease to try.

Richter had experienced financial hardship before his works were used in film and television. In a personal article for Drowned in Sound celebrating the 10th anniversary of The Blue Notebooks, Richter opened up about his debut album memoryhouse. He worked over two years on the record, but it received no critical or commercial attention upon its release.
