One year ago today here in Austin, TX, Janet Pierson, Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert at the world premiere of “Everything Everywhere All At Once” at SXSW. I love walking into a movie with no context, not having seen trailers or footage. I wasn’t really tracking “Everything Everywhere All At Once” (and kept screwing up the title) but knew I wanted to see whatever the Daniels were up to. SXSW only described EEAAO as, “a hilarious and big-hearted sci-fi action adventure about an exhausted Chinese American woman (Michelle Yeoh) who can't seem to finish her taxes.” The response that night in the Paramount Theater was at first totally silent and then purely explosive. When Michelle Yeoh walked on stage after the screening, WOW. The film was so much. I was sitting with Indiewire’s Eric Kohn at the screening and when the movie ended, mind blown, I turned to him with puzzled excitement and started rambling with joy about seeing such bold American filmmaking grappling with real topics and big issues. As Daniel Kwan noted in an Instagram post today, the Q&A was a stunner, audience lined up in the aisles to ask questions about, as Kwan recalled, intergenerational trauma, mental health and depression, and Asian hate crimes. “Everything Everywhere All At Once” was unstoppable at the box office last spring and seems to be the same in this season’s awards race (but we’ll know for sure tomorrow). It’s so great to be back here in Austin this weekend to watch new movies and see friends, salute Janet Pierson on 15 years at the helm of SXSW, cheer on incoming fest head Claudette Godfrey, and gear up for Monday’s convo with Tilda Swinton (Julio Torres’s first feature, “Problemista” - starring Tilda & Torres - premieres Monday and is a must-see)! So whatever may happen tomorrow night at the Oscars, congratulations Daniels, A24, and the entire EEAAO team! (at Paramount Theatre) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpqImaEpW_6/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

After production ended on the long-running "Little House on the Prairie" series, three made-for-TV movies helped wrap up the series. The first of these, "Look Back to Yesterday," depicts Albert's heroic battle with an ultimately fatal illness. Albert interviews at the University of Minnesota, where he plans to study medicine. Albert (unbeknownst to anyone else) suffers from unexplained nosebleeds and is always tired. His family later finds out about the nosebleeds, and a physician from Mankato informs Charles the symptoms point to a deadly form of leukemia, and that Albert has a short time to live. Albert adamantly states his wishes to live out what may be his final days in Walnut Grove; he falls in love with childhood friend Michelle Pierson (who also plans to attend the University of Minnesota to study education) and spends many of his hours with his beloved sister, Laura. Laura, however, is in denial that her brother will soon die, and wants her equally-beloved brother to rest. Albert gives an emotional speech about living each day to the fullest to his one-time classmates, who are organizing their annual trip to the Keepsake tree (which sits atop a steep incline and contains items donated by the alumnus of Walnut Grove School). Meanwhile, Walnut Grove has fallen on hard times because of a dispute between the farmers, who want to sell their crops, and the railroad. Charles helps organize an effort where the farmers work as sharecroppers, to help put an end to the dispute. The farmers are initially against the idea (only John Carter, Dr. Baker, Mr. Edwards and Nels Olesen are for Charles' idea at first), until Albert passionately tells of how he always admired the spirit of cooperation of Walnut Grove's farmers. Meanwhile, Jason Carter has a case of puppy love, and announces his intention to sneak a kiss from fellow classmate Amy Bryant.
Shannen played the role of Jenny Wilder.
TV film aired on December 12, 1983.
In the second sequel of the popular TV series, during preparations for a Christmas baby, Laura and Almanzo are forced to go looking for Rose Wilder who was kidnapped by a woman who recently lost her child. While looking for Rose, Laura, Almanzo and Mr Edwards meet a young lonely orphan boy looking for a home, who ends up living with that woman. Also, Jason Carter wishes to give his mother a happy Christmas.
Shannen plays the role of Jenny Wilder.
TV film aired on December 17, 1984. This movie forms part of the unofficial final season 10 trilogy. Accordingly, this should ideally be watched in its originally intended middle story position, due to the nature of the explosive season 10 finale. Although this was the second sequel telefilm produced, it was actually the last "Little House" story to air on NBC in December, 1984 (it had been kept on the NBC shelf for a year).
In the series finale, the town of Walnut Grove is revealed to have been built on land owned by a railroad tycoon. The citizens deal with the loss of their town and lifestyles, and some must decide how best to respond to this explosive event.
Shannen plays the role of Jenny Wilder.
TV film originally aired on February 6, 1984. This was the third of three "Little House" telemovie sequels, and the last story to be filmed, but not the last to be broadcast (it debuted during February 1984, while the film made before it, "Little House: Bless All the Dear Children", aired ten months later, in December of that same year).

Janie Marèse and Georges Flamant in La Chienne (Jean Renoir, 1931)
Cast: Michel Simon, Janie Marèse, Georges Flamant, Roger Gaillard, Romain Bouquet, Pierre Desty, Mlle. Doryans, Lucien Mancini, Jane Pierson, Sylvain Itkine, Magdeleine Bérubet. Screenplay: Jean Renoir, based on a novel by Georges de la Fouchardière. Cinematography: Theodor Sparkuhl. Art direction: Marcel Courmes. Film editing: Pál Fejös, Denise Tual.
Seeing Michel Simon as the milquetoast Maurice Legrand in La Chienne after L'Atalante (Jean Vigo, 1934) and Boudu Saved From Drowning (Jean Renoir, 1932) is something of a revelation, even if at the end of La Chienne he has become something like Boudu. But the entire film is a revelation: The second sound film by Renoir, it demonstrates an innovative mastery of what was essentially a new medium, one that even the Americans who claimed to have invented synchronized sound were still struggling with. Renoir -- with the help of sound technicians Denise Batcheff and Marcel Courmes -- creates an auditory ambience still rare in 1931, relying on dialogue and sound effects created on set and not in post-production. The most often-cited example is the rasp of the paper knife held by Lulu (Janie Marèse) as she cuts the pages of the book she's trying to read -- just before Legrand kills her with it. But the film is full of small auditory details like the squeaking of the shoes worn by the defense attorney (Sylvain Itkine) as he paces nervously back and forth before his doomed client, Dédé (Georges Flamant). But beyond the technical mastery, which also includes some brilliant camerawork by cinematographer Theodor Sparkuhl, the film is a tour de force of bitter irony, not least because Renoir keeps it from falling into sensationalism or unrelieved darkness. Legrand, initially the henpecked husband to a termagant (Magdeleine Bérubet), brings calamity to several lives, not only those of Lulu and Dédé, but also those of his wife and her supposedly dead ex-husband (Roger Gaillard). And yet, at the film's end he survives, not only unbroken but in many ways a stronger man than he was at the film's beginning. His story is framed as a puppet show with, as a puppet claims, "no moral message." But though Legrand commits fraud, adultery, and murder without receiving the official punishment of the law, the moral is aimed at those who scorned and abused him: Beware the worm who may turn and prove to be a viper.

Superman is struggle a bit with the exposure to the Kryptonite. Jimmy grabs a fire hose left unattended and sprays water at Metallo knocking him into a nearby car.

Metallo begins to escape with her until Superman becomes enraged and with what small amount of power left punches Metallo and saves Lois. He tells her to go now. She refuses to leave him to die.
Meanwhile, two different men are watching this fight. Lex Luthor is watching from his office and another man is watching from across the street.
Metallo begins to approach them and Superman moves Lois behind him. Metallo tells him wants he kills Superman he’ll kill his pretty friend too. Superman uses his ice breath which Metallo tells him won’t work. But he tells him it did exactly what he needed it to do. It freezes the Kryptonite. And once it shatters and breaks Superman quickly is able to take down Metallo.
Luthor is enraged and order Mercy to come into his office. She arrives and he ask do they have any more Kryptonite. She informs that was the last large piece they had, the only have smaller sample’s remaining.
He turns to his window and tells her that Superman has been a throne in his side for far to long. He calms down and ask her is the press ready for him to address them. She tells him they are.
He leaves his office with Mercy leading him.
Later that afternoon Lex address the public and tells them he is running for president. Many press and reporters ask him questions and he answers a few. Clark,Lois and Jimmy watch from the main floor of the Daily Press
Lois scoffs, and tells says he’s so full of himself. Jimmy chuckles. Clark is deep in thought and hasn’t said anything. Lois chucks a crumpled piece of paper and his head to get his attention. “Earth to Smallville, what’s going on in that head of yours?” Clark gets up and asked her to meet him on the rooftop.
Jimmy and Lois share a look but she signs and follows him while Jimmy watches the rest of the Press conference.
When she arrives on the rooftops she begins asking was Luthor getting to him or was it the joke about his hometown.
Clark is facing the newly forming night sky of Metropolis. He ask Lois does she trust him. Taken aback she answers relatively slowly. He turns to her with a blank look on his face. Now fully alert and concerned she asks him what’s wrong.
He tells her that he’s hasn’t been truthful with her but he didn’t know who he could trust. She listens intently and ask Clark what’s this really about. He climbs onto the ledge and tells Lois that she needs to trust him. She tells Clark he’s crazy and to get down. He steps off the ledge and rushes to him only to stop when she sees him flying.
“Am I on punked or something?” Clark smiles and opens his button down to reveal his Superman suit. She’s star struck for a moment before it hits her.
He lands back infornt of her and he tells her the truth.
Lois is silent for a bit then tells him he’s been a big blue Boy Scout this entire time. She chuckles and attempts he didn’t think she’d take it well.
She tells him that she’s reporter and for a short while she thought he could be him she wasn’t sure.
The two have moment on the rooftop before she kisses him for the first time knowing that he is both Superman and Clark Kent.
Across town Lex Luthor is waiting in his limousine outside of a sleezy bar on the outskirts of town, a gentleman wanders out of the back door and Lex rolls down his window and calls him over.
Curious Black asks what the bloody hell he wants and Lex asks him how would he like to be known as the man who killed Superman.
Clark wakes up in his couch and Lois is sound asleep beside him, the two past out after takeout and a movie.
Clark quietly gets up and covers her with a blanket and goes onto his balcony. He takes out his phone and call his parents in Smallvile, Martha answers frantically asking Clark wants wrong. He reassures he’s fine and tells her about Lois. Martha tells him she’s happy that he found someone he cares about and we hear his father in the background Martha shushes him to go back to sleep.
The next day Clark and Lois get off the elevator and walk into the Daily Planet. Jimmy tells them that Perry wants them to interview Lex about his presidential candidacy.
Clark hears someone screaming for help. He shares a look with Lois who grins and whispers for him to go. She turns to a confused Jimmy and tells him that they better get the interview over with.
Superman arrives at the Metropolis Plaza mall where he finds a old stroller. He uses his x-ray vision and the stroller is lead lined.
As he looks inside the stroller he finds a shard of Kryptonite. Superman stumbles back from it and a man walks from the darkness and greets the man of steel. Manchester uses his Telepathic abilities on Superman causing him to pass out from both his abilities as wells as the kryptonite exposure.
Lois seats with Lex as Jimmy takes a few photos of the occasion. Mercy stands behind Lex as Lois being interviewing him. The interview would start fine but as Lois asks him about his “alleged” ties to plots to kill Superman he turns the questions on her asking about her own relationship with the superhero. Lois caught off guard refuses to back down and ask Luthor out right about his ties to research and development with the creation of Superboy as well as mining for large quantities of kryptonite.
Lois stands and tells him the interview is over. She and Jimmy leave and Luthor chuckles darkly to himself. He tells Mercy to make sure Ms. Lane and her photographer are taken care of. She nods and leaves him.
Superman awakes in a black void without anyone around. He calls out and calls out for anyone but he’s all alone.
Manchester begins to taught him and tells him he’s not a hero and that he’s wasting his abilities by not killing those around him.
Clark tells him he’d be no better than those he fought. The first them that materializes around his is the Kent farm. And it’s eerie and creepy.
When he enters the house he finds both his parents murdered. Clark tells Manchester to tell him what happened.
He appears behind him and tells him this all Superman’s doing, Clark enraged worlds around to strike him but he’s gone again and so are Martha and John’s bodies.
He rushes out the back door and is now inside the elevators of the Daily Planet. When he walks out of them he finds it empty.
Manchester tells him he knows his identity. He reveals that his abilities allow him to have a large amount of control over people’s subconscious.
He tells Superman that he needs to face reality that he’s not helping anyone he’s hindering himself by limiting his capabilities.
Soon everything around him begins to crumbled and fall and Superman falls into a void once more.
Lois and Jimmy are down the stairs of Lexcorp and Lois noticed several more security guards walking them and Mercy at the bottom of the stairs with several armed guards.
“And just what the hell do you think you doing?” Lois demands and Mercy smirks,”My job Ms. Lane, it’s nothing personal just business.”
The guards grab them and she shouts for Superman but Mercy chuckles and informs her that Superman is not coming for her or anyone else.
Lois and Jimmy are zip tied and gagged and thrown into a military suv. Mercy waves at them with Jimmy’s camera and Lois’ notebook as the doors are shut and the car starts moving.
Superman rises from the ground and he’s in the heart of Metropolis. The city looks like a war hit it, the skies red, destroyed vehicles littered the road and sidewalks.
He calls out for Manchester to end this madness and let him go. Manchester told him that he must kill him if he wants to go home. Manchester tells him that he’s even holding back his protégés from their own potential too.
And before him are the bodies of Superboy and Supergirl. Even more horrified he tells him that if it’s a fight he wants then it’s a fight he’ll get.
Manchester appears in front of him and he grins and tells him to bring it own.
Jimmy is panicking and Lois gives him a look to claim down. She looks around the truck for something anything she can use. She turns her boots towards Jimmy and kicks them off and a pocket knife slips out. She turns her back to the truck and grabs it from his lap and begins to cut at his ties. Once free he rips off his gag and begins to uncut her and asks,”You carry a knife around?”
Once she’s free she tells him her father didn’t like her moving to the big city without some form of protection. The truck comes to a screeching halt. Lois takes the knife and is ready to take on the men but the doors are ripped off the hinges and Superboy stands bewildered at them.
“Did you think that knife would harm me?” Confused Lois and Jimmy share a look and look back at him,”How’d you find us?”
“I was crashing with Clark last night—“
Shocked she asks him he was at Clark last night and he tells her not to worry he got there after she was sleep. He was stopping by because he needed Clark’s help.”
Jimmy obviously confused asks why was Lois at Clark’s and why was Superboy.
She tells him they have bigger things to worry about. And Superboy agrees and tells them Superman is missing. Lois tells them this is Lex’s doing. And Superboy asks them how can the find him. And Lois tells them she has an idea but they have to hurry up.
Superman is trying to fight Manchester but he can’t fight an imaginary enemy.
Manchester tells him it’s clear what needs to be done. And he vanished. Soon Superman is intense pain and collapses. The world around his vanishes and he’s inside a cell with red kryptonite lamps. Lex appears on a tv in the cell and tells him to not worry and that it will all be over soon.
He orders Manchester to finish him off and Manchester warns Luthor who’s doing the work here and uses his power and destroy the tv. He turns back to Superman and tells him this will hurt.
Lois,Jimmy and Superboy arrive at S.T.A.R. Labs and find Dr. Hamilton. Lois asks him for help. She explains they can’t find him and he tells Lois that he already asked him to make something to help him find her but it can be reversed to find him too. The are able to locate him in a remote location on the outskirts of Metropolis.
Lois grabs two hand guns tells him they have to save him. Dr. Hamilton ask Jimmy to help him at the lab to monitor the software and to keep him from getting hurt too.
Superboy takes Lois and flies to the location. They arrive and she tells him to follow her lead.
Two doctors walk past them and they knock them out and steal their lab coats and badges. They are able to sneak in using the badges. The bypass the front and Mercy is in a office talking to several armed men about Lois whereabouts.
They make it to the elevator and the door closes just as Mercy comes out the office.
They make it to the basement and ditch the lab coat. The make it towards the end of the corridor and their are three soldiers. Superboy shields Lois as the open fire, and the bullets ricocheted off his chest. He uses his heat vision to destroy their guns. He takes two out of three guards and throws them through the doors. Lois shoots the last on in the leg and uses the gun handle and knocks him out.
Superboy looks at her and she tells him that isn’t always the damsel in destress people take her for.
The walk into the room and see Superman unconscious and Manchester in the cell with him. He turns towards them and Superboy charges him but Manchester stops him mid flight and tells him that was dumb.
Lois asks him why he’s doing this and he monologues to her how Superman is wasting time and power being a hero, when he could be so much more.
She questions the man by Superman enough time to get to his feet and crawl out the cell. He musters enough energy after a moment of being free to x-ray Manchester to find a weakness and finds a mole on his neck but it’s always glowing. He is able to get to a kneeling position and fire a small concrete beam of heat vision.
Manchester looks like a deer in headlights and Superboy is free from his powers. Manchester demands to known what he did and Superman smirks,”You’re right. I don’t need to be a hero to beat you. I just need to keep you talking long enough.”
“Put its time for you to shut up.” Lois knocks him out and goes with Superboy to help Superman up.
Lois tells him what Luthor did and he tells her he’s been behind it this whole time.
They get Superman to the elevator but it’s stop. Mercy comes over the intercom and tells them they aren’t leaving. Superboy pries off the elevator hatch on the ceiling and Superboy helps Lois and they help Superman.
Superboy pulls open the doors to a nearby floor and they get to safety and take the stairs out. They make it to the ground floor and Superman is still not at full strength.
Lois tells them they can’t stay here Mercy is going to kill them if they don’t hurry up. Jimmy pulls up in a black van. They help Superman who’s barely conscious. Lois talks to him but he slips in and out of consciousness.
When he wakes up he’s in S.T.A.R. Labs with Lois sleeping in a chair beside him. She wakes up and tells him to claim down she’s fine and so is he.
He asks he how long he’s been out. She tells him not long. He looks up at the makeshift lamps.
He chuckles. He tells her thank you for saving him and that he didn’t know she could throw right hook like that.
The two have a silent moment and he tells her that he must stop Luthor. And the two turn to she Luthor in D.C. waving at the crowd at his campaign rally.
She rolls her eyes and tells him he’ll get his one way or another. She gets up and walks over towards him until she face to face with him sitting on his hospital bed.
She ask him can he promise to tell her the truth no matter how ugly. No more secrets. Cheekily he agrees. And she asks him what is gonna happen with Superboy seeing ask he doesn’t have parents technically. He tells her he was already making arrangements for him.
The last scene is Superman and Superboy flying to a penthouse in NYC.
Conner looks at him and ask is this all for him and Superman smiles.”Not exactly.”
“This is the new Young Justice headquarters. And your new home.” Conner asks what does he mean and he tells him that even though what Lex did to get him here wasn’t wrong, it’s not Conner’s fault and he tells him that he’s happy to have him be apart of his family as well as where the symbol he does. He finishes with people who wear this symbol are symbols of Hope.
Conner gets a text and he tells him the others are a few minutes away.
He tells Conner he’s only a phone call away if he needs anything and the two hug. Superman takes flight off the balcony and grins as he flies past New York. He takes for the clouds and flies off into the skies.
The last scene is Lex Luthor leaving his bathroom after a shower. He walks into his hotel room with a view of the city. The large windows are open slightly and he chuckles.
“Hear for an apology I’m afraid you won’t get one from me.” Superman looks at him irritated and tells him to stay away from Lois and Jimmy or his next visit won’t be a happy one.
Lex Luthor tells him want can he do without proof. He tells him that he’s wasting is time. And he tells Luthor that he’s getting sloppy and desperate. Sooner or later what’s he doing will catch up with him. And when he slips up he’ll be waiting for him. And he leaves. Luthor watches him leave with a scowl and it goes to black.

OH F****
OH F****.
Kids, close your eyes right now.
Adults, copy quick.
Erm I meant, get around to put the final screws on!
Ugh.
There's no good way of saying this.
F*** this now.
We understand late, the reason why love's always triumphed over hate.

‘Conteurs d´images’
Emir Kusturica, Frank Pierson, Jacques Audiard, Pan Nalin, James Gray, Guillermo Arriaga, Jaco Van Dormael, John Boorman, Akiva Goldsman, Maïwenn y Michel Gondry.
