I don't know about you, but the topic of aliens and UFOs has always fascinated me. As a British man, I've often wondered what our government knows about extraterrestrial life and whether they've had any encounters with unidentified flying objects.
There have been numerous reports of UFO sightings in the UK, with some of the most famous occurring in the 1980s in Rendlesham Forest, Suffolk. It's been dubbed the "British Roswell" and is still talked about to this day. Many eyewitnesses claim to have seen a triangular-shaped craft with bright lights and symbols on its side, hovering above the forest.
Despite the number of reported sightings, the British government has always been tight-lipped about their involvement with UFOs. The Ministry of Defence did, however, release a dossier in 2009 that detailed sightings and investigations between 1978 and 2002. But even then, they were careful to state that there was no evidence to suggest that any of the sightings were extraterrestrial in nature.
As someone who loves the idea of aliens and UFOs, I can't help but wonder what the truth really is. Are we really alone in the universe, or have we been visited by beings from other planets? Until we have concrete evidence, we can only speculate and imagine what lies beyond our world.
So, what do you think? Have you had any encounters with UFOs or know of any interesting sightings in the UK? Let me know in the comments.

The Ministry of Defence has given major suppliers only 36 hours to come up with ideas for immediate cuts amid significant budget pressure, according to a confidential letter seen by i. In a letter sent out to defence contractors on Monday senior civil servants at the MoD demanded companies come up with “high-level, headline ideas” for cost savings within 36 hours in which officials admit was an “exceptionally tight turnaround”. Contractors were told the MoD needed to “make material in-year savings, through the cancellation or deferral of lower -riority activity”, or present plans for efficiency savings “as quickly as possible”. The MoD letter states that ministers will need to make some “hard choices” that “align to this government’s target of spending 2.5 per cent of GDP on defence”. Although the Prime Minister has set out his plans to raise defence spending to 2.5 per cent of GDP in future years no date has been set. The letter seen by i suggests that significant savings are needed for this financial year with contractors asked what areas could be cut while preserving “military capability”.

Don't get me wrong; I'm for less spending on the military, but aren't they gearing up for the coming war? British troops can look forward to using the best of the cheapest arms out there.
Anyway, I have a suggestion; they can outsource some work to Belarus and Russia, like they did with the nuclear submarine software, perhaps buy Chinese weapons which are cheaper than their US counterparts.
FTR, military spending, as a percentage of GDP, went down every year from 2010 to 2018 and only started going up again under Bojo the Clown thanks to the threats from the orange man-child in the White House. Looks like it will be going down again. The 34-times convicted felon will not be pleased.

Celta, here's another easy question to ask the universe about Harry's 10 year Army service: Why did Harry lie about being an Apache helicopter pilot? A follow up question would be Why did the British media lie about Harry being an Apache helicopter pilot?
Hi Nonny,
I think that Harry did not correct the misconception that he was an Apache pilot because it made him look good. The original press release came from the Ministry of Defence, and it was picked up by the media and they ran with it. I have found two contradictory articles on this:
Feb 2012, saying that Harry qualified as a pilot and wants to use those skills in a future second tour in Afghanistan
Jul 2013, saying that Harry was a gunner during his second tour of Afghanistan, and saying he has passed an exam as a 'commander' and can 'take overall control of the helicopter' - no mention of the word pilot.
I suspect, very strongly, that 'Harry is an apache pilot' was put out as part of the 'Hero Harry' PR, and while it was never stated outright that he was a pilot, the press releases were worded in such as way that the normal person would infer that from what was said. Hence the media running with the idea and headlines saying he was a pilot.
I will add your questions to my list of follow up ones as it will be interesting to see what the cards have to say. :)

"Most UK military flights were vast cargo vehicles that can carry weapons and over 100 soldiers. Ministry of Defence claims it does not have access to number of troops it has moved to Israel. Flights from UK’s Cyprus base alone had capacity to transport 4,300 soldiers, likely to include elite SAS troops.
... When asked for a full accounting of what cargo these flights carried, the MoD said: 'Royal Air Force operated planes landing in Israel since 7 October 2023 have been used by Ministers, officials and UK Armed Forces personnel conducting diplomatic and defence engagement, and to transport life-saving medical supplies.'
But the department is refusing to elaborate on what this 'defence engagement' has involved.
The department also refused to give details of how many UK military personnel have been transported to Israel on these flights, telling parliament that because 'this information is not held centrally within the Ministry of Defence, we are unable to give a specific number.'
This is an unconventional answer to a parliamentary question and its meaning is unclear. Declassified previously revealed that the UK secretly deployed 500 extra troops to its Cyprus base after Israel began bombing Gaza."

Counterfetts on Twitter (icon is Isobel from bg3) has a thread about it that also places the Charles business in the timeline in case that’s relevant (personally I only think it is as a comparison of how the royal family usually handles things). It doesn’t cover the more recent stuff though, so I’ll do an overview:
4th March a blurry paparazzi photo of Kate in the car with her mum is released. People use AI to remove the distortion and then make wild claims about it being a double because the AI made it not look like her, but that’s just how those enhancement features work. The photos too grainy to glean anything from except that she’s alive and conscious.
5th March the ministry of defence posts that she’s going to attend trooping of the colour in June. This is bizarre because the MoD don’t make those announcements, and it’s a long way off to be announcing that. The announcement is removed the same day.
10th March for Mother’s Day Kensington palace post a photo of Kate with her children, saying it was taken by William. She is not wearing a wedding ring. The photo is pretty obviously photoshopped and several media outlets put a kill notice on it.
11th March Kate tweets from the Kensington palace account that she likes to mess around with photo editing and apologises for the confusion. This is bizarre for several reasons, first that William took the photo but Kate’s taking the blame, and second that it is not in the format of an official announcement which ALL communications from royals or their representatives usually are. A photo of her in the car with William, supposedly on the way to two seperate appointments is released later. She is looking away from the camera and only her profile is visible. It is a BIZARRE photo to pick during this particular moment.
Over the next few days many different news outlets post articles about the marchioness of cholmondeley (pronounced chumly. Somehow) just introducing her out of nowhere. Apparently she is rumoured to be Williams mistress.
Tbh I don’t think there’s anything particularly malicious going on, I think she’s just either gained weight from surgery or had a temporary colostomy bag put in and the royal family is too misogynistic/ableist to let her be photographed like that. I do also think William is cheating on her but that’s just seperate to this whole thing. I think the lack of the wedding ring in the Mother’s Day photo has more to do with generative ai being used than a secret message hinting at divorce.
omg thank you anon.... i expected a link and instead u delivered this info directly into my inbox. #blessed

The security operation for The King's Birthday Parade tomorrow is huge. The large number of uniformed Police Officers will be supplemented by plain clothes officers, MOD personnel and other security agencies... and assisted by covert surveillance operatives.
Republic, an anti-monarchy pressure group are planning a number of protests. Met Police recognise and respect their right to protest peacefully. They have spoken to representatives of Republic, and have stressed that the group should not do anything that could disrupt events.
The aim of the substantial security operation is to ensure the safety and security of everybody who attends, or participates in official events. For reasons of public safety, Met Police have banned protestors from carrying any equipment which can be used for amplifying sound.

Britain’s nuclear submarine engineers use software that was designed in Russia and Belarus, in contravention of Ministry of Defence rules, The Telegraph can reveal. The software should have been created by UK-based staff with security clearance, but its design was partially outsourced to developers in Siberia and Minsk, the capital of Belarus. There are fears that the code built by the Russian and Belarussian developers could be exploited to reveal the location of Britain’s submarines. The Telegraph understands that the MoD considered the security breach a serious threat to UK defence and launched an investigation. The inquiry discovered that the firm that outsourced the work – on a staff intranet for nuclear submarine engineers – to Russia and Belarus initially kept it secret and discussed whether it could disguise where the workers were based by giving them fake names of dead British people. As well as the UK’s submarine fleet, there are fears that further defence capabilities could have been compromised because it has emerged that a previous project was also outsourced to developers in Minsk. National security in jeopardy On Friday, experts warned that the UK’s national security could have been jeopardised if personal details of those with classified knowledge of Britain’s nuclear submarine fleet fell into the wrong hands, leaving them exposed to blackmail or targeted attacks. Ben Wallace, the former defence secretary, said the breach “potentially left us vulnerable to the undermining of our national security”. He added: “Time and time again, countries like China and Russia have targeted the supply chains of our defence contractors. This is not a new phenomenon.” James Cartlidge, the shadow defence secretary, said it was an “absolute imperative” to ensure “our most sensitive defence programmes have total resilience and security”. Rolls-Royce Submarines, which powers the UK’s nuclear submarine fleet on behalf of the Royal Navy, wanted to upgrade its staff intranet and had subcontracted the work to WM Reply, a digital consultancy firm. WM Reply then used developers based in Belarus – Russia’s closest ally – one of whom was actually working from home in Tomsk, Siberia, according to documents submitted to the MoD’s inquiry.

This happened under the Tories, no doubt a product of austerity and the drive to acquire things as cheaply as possible.

The Special Reconnaissance Regiment (SRR) is a `Tier 1´ special reconnaissance unit of the British Army that conducts a wide range of covert surveillance and reconnaissance for the United Kingdom Special Forces (UKSF). Much of the information about the SRR is highly classified. The unit is not commented on by either the British government or the Ministry of Defence (MoD) due to the secrecy and sensitivity of its operations.

🇬🇧 🚨 💷 BRITISH MILITARY FACES A £17 BILLION EQUIPMENT FUNDING SHORTFALL OVER THE NEXT 10 YEARS
Britain's National Audit Office (NAO) is reporting that Britain's Armed Forces are facing a £17 Billion ($21.6 Billion) shortfall over the next 10-years for military equipment acquisition.
According to the report, the estimated cost for weapons and equipment acquisition for the period lasting from 2023 to 2033 is expected to be £305.5 Billion, a total of £16.9 Billion over budget.
In response, British Defense Minister Grant Shapps dismissed concerns over the military acquisition budget, telling reporters "the department is confident it can live within its equipment budget" and insisting that there were also scenarios in which the Ministry of Defense (MoD) would have a surplus over 10 years.
The UK's MoD has already boosted defense spending this year, increasing the budget from about 2% of GDP to approximately 2.25% of GDP.
Shapps also said the report does not account for the current government's goal of raising British Defense spending to 2.5% of GDP whenever economic conditions allowed.
In a statement, the head of the NAO, Gareth Davies said that "The Ministry of Defence acknowledges that its Equipment Plan for 2023–2033 is unaffordable," and that decisions over scrapping or scaling back projects deemed unaffordable should not be deferred, risking "poor value for money."
However, the NAO believes the deficit could go even higher, because their report does not include the cost of developing future capabilities nor does it include the cost of extending the life of some equipment like tanks and armored vehicles.

Fun fact that absolutely nobody asked for: Eoin's watch strap is anachronistic. (afaik)
The 1954 RAF-issued 6B/2617 was the precursor to the much more widely known NATO strap, developed by the British Ministry of Defence (MoD) and debuted in 1973. The term “NATO” in this context does not derive from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, but rather from the alphanumeric code used by the British MoD to identify all standardised material items of supply, called the NATO Stock Number.
Tumblr media
One of the key features of the NATO and 6B/2617 straps that distinguish it from the even earlier Zulu strap is the retaining loop (indicated in red), which prevents the watch body from sliding around on the strap; it is affixed via an additional length of fabric that passes under the case.

We went for our first walk in Velmead Woods in Church Crookham, Fleet today.
This walk is located near Caesar's Camp. Velmead Woods is public accessible MOD (Ministry of Defence) land, and forms part of the Velmead common, Tweseldown and Caesar's Camp circular walk.
On a hot sunny day it was lovely and quiet!
