I don't like replacing exclamations with English equivalents, though, because all the English equivalents are related to Christianity and have religious connotations whereas the Chinese ones do not. I do not want to create religious associations where there are none inherently.

Therefore, I tend to keep all the "aiya/aiyo/aima/wodema/wodima/wodemaya/etc" exclamations as they are. If I do replace it, I'll usually replace it with "my word" or something, which I think still has some religious associations but isn't as bad.
