Artist Nelson Sobral Inspires with New Single 'Hang On'

Nelson Sobral is a singer-songwriter guitarist hailing from Toronto, equally inspired by the vast, wide open spaces of the country he calls home and the labyrinthine maze of the city in which he resides. His music is as much Americana and blues as it is soul and rock ‘n’ roll, perfectly balanced with the energy and sound of each of his respective influences, uniting them all with one, singular mission: to move and energize audiences into an all-night frenzy and travel the world on the might of his song.

His gritty new single, “Hang On,” is delta blues shot up with electric rock and roll. This is the third taste of his upcoming full-length album, the follow up to 2022’s Second Arrow.

“Hang On” has soulful vocals and bluesy guitar riffs, delivering an anthem of liberation, urging listeners to break free from the past. “It’s a reflection of letting go of people and situations that no longer serve you,” Sobral remarks.

Though clearly inspired by the roots songwriting giants—the Hank Williams and the Gram Parsons of the world—Nelson Sobral’s work deserves a wider scope, a wider breadth, and a wider reach. Through the lens of soul, blues, and rock and roll, Sobral’s songwriting, paired with his incomparable voice and monster guitar playing, is fit for any stage, any night of the week, any audience, anywhere.

Nelson Sobral is a Toronto based guitarist and singer/songwriter, he performs music infused with country, northern soul and urban blues. Today, I will be reviewing his single ‘In The Middle Of The Night’ which was released on July 30th 2021.

‘In The Middle Of The Night’ opens with a quite jaunty, guitar and percussion driven melody, it has a lot of energy, fast paced and lively in a way that would make it spectacular performed live. You can feel the various music styles which inspired this, and yet feel the fresh vibe and energy which Nelson brings to it.

Nelson Sobral Shares Bold New Single

For Toronto-based Nelson Sobral, when you inject Americana with a hard-edged, urban blast of gritty midwest blues, rock'n'roll, and northern soul, the genre adopts an entirely new identity, one of overpasses, subway trains, and the grit of city streets. 

On his full-length album Second Arrow (out Feb 25), Nelson’s lifelong love of country, soul and rock is woven into a sound aptly described as a torrential downpour of jubilation. The album title is “a reference to a Buddhist parable,” Sobral explains. “If someone does you harm, that’s the first arrow; but dwelling on it, that’s you causing yourself the next wave of suffering. The second arrow is the arrow that you fire upon yourself. It’s all about how you deal with things.” Listen to the full album here.

High-energy opener “Dancing Fool,” about letting go of what no longer serves you, leads the charge with its bombastic chorus, raw swagger, and virtuosic guitar playing.

Check the list of schools that will adopt the civic-military model

Sao Paulo, 27th February of 2020  

The Ministry of Education (MEC) has already defined the fifty four educational institutions that will be contemplated with the pilot project for civic-military schools in 2020. The units are located in twenty two states and the Federal District.

 The North region will have eighteen schools. In the South there will be thirteen units and in the Midwest eleven institutions will be part of the program. In addition another seven schools will be in the Northeast and five in the Southeast.

 According to the selection criteria stipulated by the Ministry of Education forty state schools and fourteen municipal schools were chosen. The model will be implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Defense which is already selecting and training military personnel from the Armed Forces reserve who will act in the educational management of the institutions.

 This year the Ministry of Education will allocate BRL 54 million to bring the management of civic-military excellence to these schools and invest BRL 1 million per educational institution. From this whole amount the Ministry of Education will transfer BRL 28 million to the Ministry of Defense to pay military from the Armed Forces reserve. The other BRL 26 million will be allocated to local governments to invest in the infrastructure of the units with school materials and other renovations (in these schools, police and military firefighters will work).

 “We have already trained school principals and managers and state police officers and firefighters. Everything is being done with the maximum transparency and management which is necessary for the process ”, told the director of Policies for Civic-Military Schools, Aroldo Cursino.

 The adherence to the program was voluntary. The only states that were left out were: Sergipe, Espírito Santo and Piauí. The states which didn’t entered the program is due to not have enough contingents of military personnel in the reserve to participate in the model.
