Day 24: New Haven EP-5
Info from Wikipedia
The New Haven EP-5 was a double-ended mercury arc rectifier electric locomotive built in 1955 by General Electric, for the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad. It was built to haul passenger trains between Grand Central Terminal or Penn Station in New York City and New Haven, Connecticut. The EP-5s resembled the Alco FA.
The EP-5s were the first AC passenger electric locomotives to use rectifiers to convert alternating current from overhead wires to direct current for the traction motors. They also collected DC from the third rail used by the New York Central, whose tracks the New Haven used to reach Grand Central Terminal. All of the class were equipped with the Pennsylvania Railroad's cab signal system needed to operate into Penn Station; Washington, D.C.-Boston through trains over the Hell Gate Bridge, plus the Montrealer/Washingtonian, were their main assignment throughout their New Haven careers.
The units were known as "Jets" due to the roaring sound made by their main blowers; an example of this characteristic was inadvertently preserved for posterity in a scene shot at Grand Central Terminal, the very first moments of the movie The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit.
The EP-5s had a reputation for rapid acceleration and high pulling capacity. However, the class also had a tendency to overheat and catch fire due to the crowded, poorly ventilated internal component arrangement, a situation made necessary by the need for the units to conform to the weight restrictions imposed by the New York Central's Park Avenue steel viaduct. This problem was significantly aggravated by the New Haven management's de-emphasis of electric operations in favor of its new dual-power FL9 diesels, and the railroad's financial condition. By 1962, a year after the New Haven entered bankruptcy, only three units were in service. All 10 were quickly rebuilt under the trustees' management, but by the time of the New Haven's 1969 inclusion in Penn Central, four were again out of service (and were soon scrapped). The EP-5s were rapidly replaced on Washington–Boston trains by the reliable former Pennsylvania Railroad GG1 electrics.
When the New Haven was merged into PC, the six units still in service were redesignated as the E-40 class, and were assigned to commuter train service between Grand Central Terminal and New Haven. The E-40s continued in this service, steadily dwindling in number, until May 1973 when the Metropolitan Transportation Authority suddenly banned them after #4971 caught fire in the Park Avenue Tunnel; all went into dead storage. Amtrak passed them up for new electrics. Two of the units, #4973 and #4977, were rebuilt by PC into freight units, stripped of their third-rail capability, steam generators, and one of the two pantographs. They were used in a variety of light-duty freight services, but their utility was limited by their lack of multiple-unit capability and dynamic brakes. Within a year of Penn Central's inclusion into Conrail, the remaining two E-40s were retired. All were scrapped by 1979.

Hello everyone, Giuliabuilds here!
Here's another build using the brand new #HorseRanch EP: it's a winery inspired by Italy, built with no CC!
It’s built in the new world of Chestnut Ridge on a 64x64 lot, with everything you'd need for a couple of horses (but also cows, chickens, cats/dogs) + a wine cellar in the basement. It has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms and plenty of space for a big family 💜
I’ve used no CC gallery art by: Katrindekleine, Cribea9, Cicosims, dbraydenmeyers, AliasLTS.
It’s CC free and all the packs I’ve used are listed down below + all the instructions to download it. I hope you’ll like it!

== Love Notes ==
Hey lovelies. It's been two years. Two years since OFMD started the journey to bringing all of us together. I know a lot of us are later to the party than others, but I just wanna say thank you to OFMD for helping so many of us feel loved, and included, and safe-- and for this fandom for always being so welcoming.
Whether you've been here since the first trailer was shown, or since the cancellation of s2, you are part of this found family and we're so happy to have you.
I know a lot of folks are worried right now, and we've been going for so long, but we have something to celebrate today! 2 years! Can you believe it?
I've had more fun in the last half a year with you all, than I have in nearly a decade. The love and support I feel in this community is so strong that I feel like there's hope for just about anything. I fully believe we're going to get our s3 at this point because everything we're doing means something. This show is all about queer joy, and we need that on tv, and we're showing everyone exactly what it means to us. It's gonna happen. We're manifesting that shit.
You are wonderful lovelies, every last one of you. Don't ever forget that. I hope you have a fulfilling, restful evening/day, and everything good you could need happens for you. Stay strong, we made it this far, we'll make it through <3.

Ep. 8 Spoilers (The Boys)
Rapid fire main feeling/takeaways
- While I’m deeply upset we didn’t get to see the hostile takeover like in comics, the ending scene gives me hope for a bizarre dystopian Season 5 with all super humans having dominion over America, especially with a Gen V S2 tie in.
- I was waiting to see Ashley’s mutation, assuming it would be some Marvel’s Medusa style hair manipulation judging how her skull started moving.
- Why is no one talking about Kimiko finally having a strong enough tether to Frenchie that she SCREAMED? She wanted this at the beginning of the season, and I’m glad they didn’t just ignore it for her character arc.
- I’m not surprised Vicky got killed, but it annoyed me that it happened when she was fully surrendering and her daughter was ultimately subjected to her same tragic past at Red River.
- Grace deserved it, sorta kinda. Why was she provoking a young boy who clearly can’t control his abilities by offloading every horrible thing about him to his face like that was going to yield something positive? I liked her, but the second that scene began I knew her fate was sealed.
- I really thought Firecracker was going to fully die from some overdose/disease because of the milk pills, but now I’m thinking that pretty much every supe that takes part in this New World Order are going to get killed by Butcher/the virus. Probably (better not be) Annie, Kimiko, or Ryan, and I’m assuming the gang from Godolkin would also find an antidote or safe haven as well.

Penn Central electric locomotive 4973, a former New Haven Railroad EP-5 motor, is seen on a yard track, ca 1970. The motor is wearing the PC black paint scheme with the railfan nickname of mated worms logo on its side. The motor's paint is in poor condition is peeling. The yard location for this photo is unknown. There is a Budd RDC seen in the background. As you can see there is no catenary above the motor and it is perhaps out of service. PC tried these motors in various services and they seemed to work mostly in freight service but did not last all that long.

HOMESTUCK NEWS UPDATE!
Tumblr media
"Hi, James here. Hope you had a good holiday! New year, new me! New you! Whatever, man! We got the usual patreon updates for you. Wahoo! Did you know that's a kind of fish? I watch a lot of fishing videos. If everything goes right and nothing goes wrong we should have something very exciting very soon: a new website! What does this mean for you? Stick around and find out!
Thanks for coming to our AMA, I hope we were able to answer some questions. I especially liked the one where Haven said he was going to fill Dirk full of Milk and slap him against a wall. Great job team. In other community news, the folks over at SAHcon are having their New Year's showcase around 5 pm PST today. Wow! I'm excited to see what the community is cooking.
We got another great comic update coming mid month, and in the next few we're letting some of the new writers shine. I'm excited for you to read them!
Speaking of updates on things… some of you sleuths may have noticed some changes. I'd like to go into a little more detail about them to the extent that I am able. I also wanted to do this in an official newspost, and not on socials etc, so that there is no question about it.
The contract with VIZ media has been restructured. What does this mean? Well, let's start a little further back. We have gotten a lot of questions about Andrew's involvement with HS:BC and Homestuck as a whole. I mentioned before that Andrew approached me to finish HS:BC. As many of you know a few years ago Andrew stepped back from having a creative role. This has allowed him to focus on oversight, and some behind-the-scenes stuff. A large part of that was regaining a sort of legal control of the brand as a whole.
So who "Owns Homestuck?" Well Andrew still does. Who has the publishing rights? We're working on that! The HICU has a license to do what we want with the property, which is what has allowed us to do some of the more creative things we are trying to do. Is the Website going to be fixed? They're working on that! I have very little to do with that, personally, but once there is something solid to announce there and the concerned parties are comfortable with it I'll let you know. What does this mean for the commentaries? Behind the scenes, some ideas about how to handle the issues with the way Homestuck is going to be published are being discussed. Some of these ideas may include a new way to release the future book commentary in absence of the books themselves. Wow!
With regards to VIZ, as some of you have correctly surmised this is good news for us. It has allowed things like HS:BC and HICU licensing etc to happen, as well as the SAHcon license. Hopefully, this can also include some additional fan-friendly licenses Andrew is considering. This all will take time to fully unfold so more details will be forthcoming about what this means for Homestuck as a whole. All in all, I think we are in for an exciting year.
Man what else is goin on? Some good news on the Vinyl is that I talked to the printer and with such an overwhelming response from you guys, instead of a simple Best Of EP, we actually want to try and do a print of Vol. 1-4. This makes all my very scientific and organized data gathering completely useless. I am humbled by something new and mundane every day. Anyway, this represents a completely different beast logistically, but as a fan of those tracks I am very very excited about that. I will Literally buy a Record Player for this. "James, you don't own a record player?" No! What do I look like, an old man? Please don't answer that. (Yes James, you do. -Homestuck Archive, 2024.)
This month (January 2024) we are also going to start seeing some of the bonus content go public. I ran a poll for the Patrons, and the general consensus is that after 2 months, they're ok with the bonus content going public. This includes Bonus strips, the Illustrations, and the commentary. They're really fun to do, so I hope you guys are into it. If you want to see these as soon as they go up, they are available to subscribers. Thank you for that, btw. It means the world to be able to pay some of my team's bills. Look at me, getting all sappy on New Year's Day. Maybe it really is a new year and a new me..."
SUMMARY -
New HS:BC Website in the works, with some new features.
Update mid-month as usual. Some of the newer Team Writers.
VIZ deal has been "restructured." (that's good for us)
Andrew still "Owns Homestuck."
Working on a solution to homestuck dot com debacle.
There are plans for commentary.
Homestuck Vinyl will be Vol. 1-4, pending some light Logistical Upkeep.
Patreon Bonuses from November will be going public this month.

Editors’ Choice:
In honor of the anniversary of the premiere of “20 Hours in L.A.”, here are some of our favorite fics based on/centered around that episode!
Go to Sleep by AndAllThatMishigas | Rated G | Abbey Bartlet/Jed Bartlet | Complete | Post-ep for 20 Hours in LA of red dresses and things unsaid by JediAnnieScrambler | Rated T | C. J. Cregg/Toby Ziegler | Complete | “CJ,” he managed, voice tight and strangled. Her dress was soft and silky under his fingertips, her perfume stronger than ever. “Are you drunk?” “No, Tobus, I am not drunk.” (20 Hours in LA missing scene) Gathering Rosebuds and Mixing Metaphors by Lily_Padd_23 | Rated G | Josh Lyman/Sam Seaborn | Complete | Alternate ending to 20 Hours in LA gather ye rosebuds by thefinestmuffins | Rated E | Josh Lyman/Donna Moss | Complete | “Gather ye rosebuds,” she’d said, all impetuous, up on her knees on his damn bed, and it’s so confusing, the way he’s almost positive that’s she’s flirting with him sometimes, even as she actively pushes him towards other women. Gather ye rosebuds. Joey’s door is within sight now, but Josh turns around without knocking, without pausing or even slowing down, driven by something sharp and immediate that seems to be lodged directly behind his solar plexus. ** A one and done smutshot, canon-divergent from 20 Hours in LA, in which Josh realizes where his rosebuds are and goes back to his hotel room to gather them. **
Fics from the past two weeks coming in the reblog!

Thoughts on MLP Make Your Mark Ch.4, Ep. 6 "A Little Horse"
Summary: When Pipp gets sick with a sore throat, her friends try to help her, with varying degrees of success. Meanwhile, Opaline decides it's time to put her plan into action.
Tumblr media
The funny thing about this episode is it doesn't have much of a plot (most of it is just Pipp's friends trying to make her feel better), and yet I really enjoyed it. Like, Sunny's quest to find a soup recipe from Queen Haven didn't really move the plot forward, but Queen Haven is so melodramatic and funny that I'm never going to complain about her getting screentime, you know?
The humor really hit the mark in this one, too. Deadpan lines which are moved on from quickly. (My favorite gags were Pipp saying "I actually haven't been alone yet" and Hitch refraining from translating the tirade of the seagull playwrite.)
Tumblr media
Also, we got a flashback to baby Pipp!
Tumblr media
The sisterly vibe was strong between Pipp and Zipp in this episode, from Zipp revealing that she was only watching Pipp's livestream due to the collab with Electric Blue to her reminiscing about sticking a candy apple in Pipp's mane. But we also got to see the softer side of sisterhood with Zipp constantly checking in on Pipp.
Tumblr media
. . . and bringing Pipp every single volume of the Adventures of Chevalia. Love that Zipp is a fantasy book nerd, she's just like me fr.
Tumblr media
This is the cover of one of the Chevalia books, featuring a pony with similar colors to Celestia, except it appears to be a pegasus.
Tumblr media
Along with Pipp's other visitors is Misty! Who the gang haven't seen since the Manesquerade Ball. So we can infer that Opaline has been keeping her close to the castle.
As early as "Traditional Unicorn Sleepover" Misty has liked hanging out with the Mane 5 because they're kind to her and expose her to wonders like chocolate-covered popcorn (excuse me, "ponycorn"). But this shows how much she's grown into these friendships, that it's not one-sided and Misty also cares about the other ponies' well-being.
Tumblr media
Misty also brought a present wrapped in newspaper: a mane brush. Presumably her only mane brush. Misty, you are so sweet.
Tumblr media
Also her expression when Pipp thanks her is very cute.
Tumblr media
I loved Zipp's conspiracy board montage!
Tumblr media
And Sunny and Twilight are SO cute in these drawings, awww!
Anyway, Zipp has correctly deduced that an alicorn is the evil pony Twilight Sparkle was talking about. The book from "Manesquerade" told her that alicorns can harness magic other than their own, namely dragon magic.
Tumblr media
When Misty rushes back to report this, we see a room in "the lair" that we've never seen before, which looks significantly nicer than Misty's bedroom. Probably either a library or Opaline's room. Opaline declares it's finally time to put their plan into action.
Other random thoughts:
it must be hell texting with hooves
Pipp's webcam looks like a bunny, very cute
Tumblr media
During the critter play Pipp mentions Breezies, the tiny ponies seen in G3 and G4.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This board game was already obviously a Monopoly reference (with the top hat) but now it also has the weird shoe!
Previously I noted that Opaline always talks about "our" plans to Misty, which is unusual for a villain. (It's most often the opposite, with the villain's sidekick being like "And then we'll rule the world!" and then the villain snarls at them and the sidekick hastily says, "I mean YOU will rule the world!")
Tumblr media
In this episode Opaline says "We must act!" and Misty pushes back with "You mean I must act?" This made me view Opaline's words in a new light . . . That maybe the "we" isn't about feeling solidarity with Misty, but more about tricking Misty into buying into Opaline's plans by feeling like she has a stake in them.
But on a subconscious level, because Opaline is more of a bulldozer than a subtle puppetmaster.
The episode ends with Opaline's sinister laugh; she doesn't notice Misty isn't joining in.

Dangerous Romance Ep 5
Logically, the surprising plot twist at the end of this ep made no sense to me. Not for a moment did I get the impression that Kang thought of Pimfah like this, that he even considered her as a romantic interest. Not for a moment did I have the impression that Kang was running away from his quickly developing feelings for Sailom. Kang is actually quite obvious about this. He publicly shows interest and care towards him, touches him, stares at him, doesn't really object much when his own grandmother teases him about his fierce interest in Sailom (she actually uses the word love!), Kang actively seeks out his company and is most pleased that Sailom is at his house. Am I supposed to believe that Kang is escaping from his feelings for a boy into the safe haven of a straigh relationship? Kang "what is a windmill without wind", watching Sailom's "client" with murderous intent? THIS Kang? 🤷‍♀️
I could absolutely buy his gay panic, his escape from his feelings for a boy into a socially expected relationship with a girl, if the series had shown it from the beginning. Like it was presented in Why R U, where Fighter couldn't cope with his feelings and his sexual orientation, started a relationshio with a girl and made a mess. But while watching Dangerous Romance, I never once got the impression that Kang had a problem with his feelings towards Sailmom, quite the opposite! Kang ACTIVELY sought continued contact with Sailom! Kang even kissed him (while escaping from the creeps) and he didn't have a meltdown after that kiss, he was just chill about it. And I took his strange behavior in this episode, gatekeeping Pimfah, as his way of monopolizing Sailom's attention so that he wouldn't make new friends who could take him away from him (and Pimfah is very nice and she's a pretty girl, so it was logical to me that for Kang she is a rival in friendship, and in love.)
Similarly, not for a moment did I have the impression that Pimfah was interested in Sailom like this, in fact in this episode I received slight sapphic vibes from her 😄 that's why her interest in Sailom - just like Kang's interest in her - was incomprehensible to me and appeared out of nowhere. I hope that the series will explain it somehow, at the moment it doesn't make any sense and is a plot twist just for a shock value, with no connection to the actual story so far.
Also, a love triangle in my BL? With a girl? IN 2023? 💀
At this point, I care about the most and symphatise with Sailom, this poor, hard-working, good, smart boy, caught, as it turns out, between two rich kids and their unresolved feelings and issues and his own feelings and struggles with poverty and debt. I wish him all the best and hope he'll finally get some rest 🥺💖

hi merryana! what are your top 5 favourite succession episodes?
hellooooo. top 5 are:
'What It Takes'!!! literally my favourite FAVOURITE episode I could write dissertations. atm the only thing keeping me motivated with my spring cleaning is the self-reward of reading the episode script when I'm done
'Turn Haven' - only recently realised this is one of my favourite eps when I realised just how many scenes of it are some of my favourites in the whole show. I love the family vs family descent from comedy into borderline horror at the dinner table. love that the point is that the Pierces and the Roys are literally the same
'America Decides' - I mean it's the spiritual and literal direct culmination of the plot bunnies introduced in what it takes so this one was doomed to be a favourite of mine and it is! Theee vibe check episode. theeeee perfect catharsis episode for those of us with relatives who have fox/sky news brainrot.
'Prague' - literally to me the funnest episodeeeeee. i feel nothing but (mostly, apart from the cage revelation lmao) total joy when I watch it, almost every scene makes me feel like I'm munching popcorn, scoffing cake, being spoiled with treats. loveee all the stewy in this ep, love roman scurrying about trying to seem Very Normal, love Tom suffering at his own bachy do, love my girl tabs - delicious!!!
'Lion In the Meadow' - Adrian Brody wearing those fiftyleven layers and discreetly trying to kill Logan's antisemitic ass, with the stewy twist at the end too is why TV was invented.
Honourable mentions specifically to Lucy Prebble eps, Argestes and Honeymoon States. Miss Prebble has never written an episode of television that wasn't absolutely perfect and didn't make me wish to be a better writer and also swallow my own face from feeling extremely specific emotions I cannae name. the only reasons they're not listed in the top 5 is because I struggle to rewatch them without wanting to boil myself. Also honourable mentions to literally every other episode they're all amazing and they have all permanently altered me in some way and that's really not an exaggeration.

New Haven Railroad General Electric EP-5 Motor # 374, is seen while leading the eastbound # 12, The Bay State, bound for Boston at Stamford, Connecticut January 30, 1967. There is still some ice and snow remaining on the right-of-way from the last snowfall. During the winter regardless of the financial condition of the railroad, it is is very hard to keep equipment clean due to the weather conditions. The steam, even though it is leaking a bit at this time is surely needed to heat the passenger cars.

Since I’m officially done with the main guides to Stray Kids, I   figured I’d do a couple fun guides, just for, well, fun. I’m done with   the dynamics, but I didn’t want to stop making these, lmao. So, I   thought it would be interesting to kind of explain the boys music, kind of like a summary of all the music they’ve put out. Not each song   individually, that may be too much. But maybe the albums/mini albums/   EPs, etc.
This post is going to skip around just a bit, it’s why I made sure to put the exact dates in the descriptions, as I wouldn’t be going in exact order. This post contains their 2 full length albums, Go Live and Noeasy, as well as their reissue In Life.
(Most of the info was taken from Wikipedia, or from my own listen of the album. I’ve gotten bits and pieces from other areas, but yea. If I got something wrong, or missed something important, please let me know!)
Go Live (2020)
Tumblr media
released in June 2020.
the group’s first official full length studio album
contains 14 songs: Go Live; God’s Menu; Easy; Pacemaker; Airplane; Another Day; Phobia; Blueprint; Ta; Haven; Top; Slump; Mixtape: Gone Days; and Mixtape: On Track.
has 5 official music videos, along with a special video.
ta doesn’t have an official music video, but it does have a dance practice, so i linked that. i highly recommend it, as they look like they’re having so much fun doing it.
top is interesting, as that song, along with slump, were made for an anime, and they were both recorded in korean, japanese, and english. the korean version of top doesn’t have an official music video, it has an unveil, however, it’s basically the whole song? so more of a performance video.
mixtape: on track is part of a trilogy, kind of. at least, from what i’ve seen from other stays. it starts with on track, goes into b me (the unveil, since there was never a music video for that one), and that goes into mixtape: oh.
the themes on this one are a little more all over the place, just because it is a full length album and there is variety here. there is also the first major incidence of them starting to push back on their haters and harsh critics (a major theme in Noeasy). they’ve touched on it before, but now, they’re being way more up front about it.
go live is just another starter song. it’s also just a shorter version of the tortoise and the hare, a song that appears in full in the reissue.
my personal favorite: definitely a tough one, this album has so many fantastic songs on it. overall favorite for me is probably ‘easy’. a song that i think stands out the most is probably ‘God’s Menu’. and a song that has the most emotional punch, again in my opinion, is ‘Another Day’. I actually cried the first time I heard it.
Wins - No music show wins, but they did win something call the ‘Main Award’ at the Seoul Music Awards
Peak position - 1 on the Circle Album Chart (previously the Goan Album Chart)
In Life (2020)
Tumblr media
released in September of 2020.
is a reissue of Go Live, but minus a handful of songs and with 8 new ones.
includes the following songs from Go Live: God’s Menu; Easy; Pacemaker; Airplane; Another Day; Phobia; Blueprint; Ta; Haven
The new tracks are: The Tortoise and the Hare; Back Door; B Me; Any; Ex; We Go; Wow; and My Universe
has 3 new music videos, but there was an unveil for B Me.
the tortoise and the hare doesn’t have a music video, however, go live had an unveil track, and since thats just a shorter version of this one, i linked that.
the new songs includes a variety of themes again. this one also contains three unit tracks, each one sung by a different ‘racha.
my personal favorite: yet another difficult choice. all 8 new tracks are standouts in their own right. I genuinely don’t think I could pick a favorite. I will say out of the unit tracks; Wow is my personal favorite. But honestly, every single one of these songs is A+
Wins - 2 music shows wins for back door, one on Show Champion and one on M Countdown.
Peak position - 1 on the Circle Album Charts (Goan Album Charts)
*i’m a newer stay, i only became a fan this year. but based on what wikipedia is saying, and based on bits and pieces i’ve seen since becoming a fan, it seems like their go live/in life eras were when stray kids really started to get big. it’s not that they didn’t have a loyal fanbase before this, but i think this album and this reissue seemed to have brought in so many more fans, and i’m glad that it did. it’s led to them being with some of the top idols in the industry and they deserve it.
Noeasy (2021)
Tumblr media
released on August 23rd, 2021.
includes the following songs: Cheese; Thunderous; Domino; Ssick; The View; Sorry I Love You; Silent Cry; Secret Secret; Star Lost; Red Lights; Surfin’; Gone Away; Wolfgang; and Mixtape: Oh
has 9 music videos. however, they performed wolfgang on kingdom. HOWEVER. i won’t be linking that performance, as there is no hyunjin. instead, i linked the other time they performed it, as 8 instead of 7. as wonderful as the original performance is (and i do recommend checking it out), this song and performance work so much better with all 8.
domino is another one that was given an unveil, but no music video, which a lot of fans hate, because the song and the unveil are so damn good. so i linked it.
mixtape: oh is a bit unique, as it was actually released in june of 2021, along with the music video. from what i can tell, it’s release was a bit of a surprise, coming right after kingdom ended, and featured hyunjin back with the group after his hiatus. stays have a great love and fondness for this one, because of the return of hyunjin and how much so many of them were happy to have him back. (in fact, the most replayed part in the video is hyunjin’s appearance)
once again, because it’s a full album, there’s a lot of themes at play, but the main one was clearly showing up their haters and harsh critics who call their music ‘noisy’, hence the title ‘Noeasy’ which is a play on the word noisy.
this one has 3 unit songs again, however the units are more random. red lights is by hyunjin and bang chan, surfin’ is by lee know, changbin, and felix, and gone away is by han, seungmin, and i.n. each one of these is very different from the other, they all give off completely different vibes.
my personal favorite from this album is another tough one, lmao. there’s so many good songs here. for overall look and feel and sound, i’ll go with thunderous, because it’s my favorite music video from them. also domino just hits so good. and the unit songs are stand outs for sure. each one has a different feel and mood and i highly recommend them.
This album was nominated for a few different awards, but the only win was for Best Album (Bonsang) at the Golden Disc Awards.
For music show awards, Thunderous took home 6 awards: 2 on Show Champion, 2 on M Countdown, 1 on Inkigayo, and 1 on Music Bank.
Peak postion - 1 on the Circle Album Charts (Goan Album Charts)

Anya | Ep. 1
Tumblr media
Anya the Swift, ranger extraordinaire of the digital realm of Eonix, blinked away static. Gone were the towering, pixelated trees and the holographic shimmer of mythical creatures. Instead, she found herself sprawled on a rug softer than any cloud sheep in Eonix. Confused, she sat up, taking in the sight of a human-sized room, overflowing with…books?
Anya, whose knowledge of the real world came solely from in-game lore, cautiously approached a shelf. The smooth paper felt alien beneath her fingers. As she scanned the unintelligible squiggles, a soft chime resonated in her head.
Level Up! +1 Knowledge
Anya’s eyes widened. Levels in the real world? Intrigued, she spent the next few days experimenting. She discovered she could level up not just through reading, but by helping an old lady cross the street (kindness +1), or aced a particularly tricky math problem a young boy was struggling with (logic +2).
One day, helping a struggling artist with perspective (creativity +1), a warm light enveloped them both. The artist, a young woman named Elara, gasped, “I feel…different. My colors seem to sing!”
Elara, it turned out, had gained the ability to level up as well. Anya, ecstatic, realized she could share her gift. The news spread like wildfire through their small town. Soon, everyone was striving to level up, from bakers leveling up their baking (dexterity +1) to firefighters leveling up their courage (bravery +2).
The once-ordinary town transformed. A sense of camaraderie filled the air, as people encouraged each other to reach new heights, not just in-game, but in their real lives. Anya, the ranger from a world of pixels, had become a beacon of growth, forever altering the world around her, one level up at a time.
The news of Anya's abilities reached far and wide, eventually reaching the ears of a powerful tech mogul, Victor Von Macht. Macht, obsessed with optimization, saw leveling as the key to unlocking human potential and maximizing productivity. He envisioned a world gamified, every action measured, min-maxed for efficiency.
Anya, wary of Macht's intentions, knew she had to act. She rallied the townsfolk, now adept at their newfound abilities, to resist Macht's attempts to control them. What followed was a series of challenges, not of brute force, but of wit and skill. Bakers had to create the most health-restoring cookies (constitution +1), artists had to design the most inspiring murals (morale +2), all to counter Macht's attempts to win over the townspeople with his soulless, efficiency-driven approach to leveling.
In the final showdown, Anya dueled Macht in a coding challenge (logic +5). Anya, fueled by the collective spirit of the leveled-up townsfolk, emerged victorious. Macht, humbled, realized that true growth wasn't about numbers, but about the connections and community fostered along the way. The townsfolk, having tasted the power of leveling up for themselves, decided to keep it a closely guarded secret, a shared experience that strengthened their bond and made their lives richer, not just in levels, but in meaning.
Years passed. The town, now known as Haven, thrived under the cloak of secrecy. Anya, revered as a hero, continued to mentor the younger generation, passing on the knowledge of leveling up. However, whispers of Haven's peculiarity reached a group calling themselves the Equilibriums, a self-proclaimed organization dedicated to maintaining balance between the digital and real worlds.
The Equilibriums believed Anya's ability to share leveling was a glitch in the system, a potential disruption to the natural order. They sent their most skilled operative, Kai, to investigate. Kai arrived undercover, posing as a curious newcomer seeking to learn Haven's secret. Anya, wary but ever welcoming, sensed Kai's hidden motives.
As Kai integrated into Haven's life, experiencing the camaraderie and the personal growth that came with leveling up, they began to question their mission. Anya, recognizing Kai's internal conflict, offered a simple solution: extend the gift of leveling. Hesitantly, Kai agreed. The moment the ability bloomed within them, the Equilibriums detected the anomaly.
A confrontation loomed. But this time, Anya wouldn't fight alone. Haven's townsfolk, now masters of their leveled-up abilities, stood beside her. The ensuing battle wasn't fought with weapons, but with kindness (empathy +3), creativity (problem-solving +2), and the unyielding spirit of a community empowered by growth. The Equilibriums, overwhelmed by the sheer force of Haven's unwavering conviction, retreated, realizing that true balance wasn't about enforcing order, but about fostering the potential for growth in all its forms.
News of the Equilibriums' defeat spread like wildfire. Slowly, other communities began to reach out, curious about Haven's secret. Anya, along with Kai, decided it was time to share their gift with the world. The world of leveling wasn't meant to be a secret, but a chance for humanity to evolve, not just in the real world, but in the digital one as well, creating a future where both realms coexisted in harmony.

How Joy Division Led Manchester to the Forefront of British Music Culture
As London was rolling away from the psychedelic and swinging times of the 1960s, one city felt left behind. From being the epicentre of the Industrial Revolution to a bleak factory, churning out bodies cursed to work until their deaths. Manchester was frustrated. In this essay, I will be focusing on how Joy Division led Manchester from an industrial city to a haven of British music culture.
1- Manchester 1970s
This picture, taken by Nick Hedges in Salford in 1969 as part of a collection to showcase the desperate housing crisis across England at that time shows the poverty that the people of Manchester were living in. Areas such as Salford and Moss Side were particularly affected and as such the people in the area needed catharsis. Punk was starting to explode in London and the band The Sex Pistols arranged their first gig in Manchester.
2- Lesser Free Trade Hall gig
The Sex Pistols played at the Lesser Free Trade Hall for 50p a ticket in June 1976. Less than 50 people came to that gig but, from the short list of attendees there were many influential people who all played a part in the Mancunian post-punk movement. Honourable mentions for people here are Morrisey, lead singer of The Smiths and The Buzzcocks, who would support the Pistols at their next Manchester gig. Peter Hook and Bernard Sumner from Salford watched this gig and formed their band that night. After some personnel rearrangement, they found Ian Curtis, recruited him as lead singer and put an advert in a music shop window for a drummer. Stephen Morris responded, and Joy Division was formed.
3- Pips Electric Circus
Joy Division did not start as Joy Division but under the name Warsaw, inspired by a David Bowie song. They played some small-level gigs but after seeing a London-based band called Warsaw Pakt release an album before them they decided to change the name. Joy Division was chosen from a book called ‘House of Dolls’ about Jewish concentration camps, the Joy Division was a brothel used by off-duty Nazi soldiers and the band found this seemingly happy-sounding name used for something so dark similar to their music and the name stuck.
Their first event as Joy Division was 25th January 1978 where they were initially billed as Warsaw. The night was eventful after their support act threw glass into the audience and Ian Curtis was thrown out of the venue for kicking the broken pieces around. They had a delayed start, but he managed to get back in and pushed through patrons to the stage. The night then ended abruptly with a fight between the band and the audience.
They then released their first EP ‘An Ideal for Living’ and used cover art following the Nazi theme which led to speculation on their own political views which would follow them for their entire career.
4- Tony Wilson
Also in attendance during the Sex Pistols gig was a man called Tony Wilson. An eccentric journalist with a passion for sub-culture and music. Wilson grew up in Salford but studied English at Cambridge University, he then went on to become a successful TV presenter on a regional channel called Grenada TV. He was well known for giving a platform to music that was not as mainstream as Top of the Pops on his show So It Goes, and was a large factor in the success of new wave and post-punk music.
5- Stiff Test / Chiswick Challenge
By April 1978 Joy Division were struggling to get gigs and saw a travelling battle of the bands held by Stiff Records. After not being initially billed they managed to get on the stage at 2 am to mediocre reception after Ian Curtis confronted Tony Wilson about not having them on his show. One person fell in love with their sound, Rob Gretton who would become their manager and solidify them a place on Wilson’s show. They played their song Shadowplay and Gretton received a letter from Wilson afterwards calling Joy Division ‘the best thing [he has] heard out of Manchester in 6 months’.
6- Factory Records
As he was so involved in the Manchester music scene Wilson saw an opportunity to represent the bands he worked with and establish a record label alongside his friend Alan Erasmus. Producer Martin Hannett and Joy Division manager Rob Gretton joined them in the venture and the band became one of the first bands to sign with them. This started with Factory nights at the Russel Club and would grow into something much bigger.
7- Unknown Pleasures
Unknown Pleasures was the first LP released by Factory Records. A sign of the belief that Tony Wilson and co. had for Joy Division. It sold well and generated £50,000 in profit to be shared equally between Factory and Joy Division but it mainly ended up being spent on future Factory endeavours. The success of the album prompted many European gigs, giving, what many British people described as the sound of Manchester, a place on the international scene.
8- Ian is diagnosed with epilepsy
Alongside the success of Joy Division’s first album, Ian Curtis struggled to cope with continuous performances and would start having seizures on and off stage. He was later diagnosed with epilepsy and would have such severe fits that he could not drive or hold his child. This affected him and listening to his lyrics today we can see how troubled he was while the men that surrounded him pushed him to continue.
After the tour, Joy Division started the production of their final album Closer. This album's name evolved into a double meaning between to move closer to something as Joy Division was moving closer to success, and their final appearance, their closer.
9- Ian commits suicide
On 18th May 1980, Ian Curtis hung himself.
It is hard to explain how much of an impact the death of Ian Curtis had on popular culture in the 1980s. As Ian’s story ended so did Joy Division. Closer was released exactly 2 months after Ian’s death and reached number 6 on the UK charts. The reception was clear, people loved Joy Division and they loved Ian Curtis.
10- Manchester 1980s
Joy Division thrust Manchester into the spotlight of British culture. From the poverty and struggle of the 1970s to drug-fuelled parties and musical escapes of the 1980s newly reformed band New Order from the remaining members of Joy Division opened the Hacienda nightclub alongside Factory Records. After initially struggling to get crowds into the venue it became a cathedral for party lovers and established an underground rave culture.
Overall, it is clear to see how Joy Division was at the forefront of the renaissance of Manchester.
