Guys. Guys. I think I've been looking at this elemental alignment thing all wrong.

Were we ever actually told that the Medicine Sellers themselves were Ri or Kun aligned? I don't think we were. I think we were specifically told that the Medicine Sellers' swords were Ri and Kun.

We don't really see those elemental alignments until the swords are drawn. Hyper invokes fire; Ichikusu really doesn't. If anything, he looks more water-aligned.

And Shingi invokes earth: he looks far more earthly than Hyper, more human, as a few people have mentioned (albeit still pretty nonhuman). By contrast, Nikusu looks very ethereal - less human than Ichikusu, as has also been pointed out

I'm not so sure the Medicine Sellers' main forms are meant to align with the elements of their swords. More than anything, they seem to align with balance.

First, their outward natures appear to counterbalance the alignments of their swords: fire/water and earth/heaven. These are opposite Trigrams in the I Ching:

Second (and I know I've said this ad nauseum), they're embodiments of yin and yang. They're masculine and feminine, human and beast-like, ancient and youthful (someone even said on here a while ago that the Medicine Seller's Japanese speech makes him sound like an old man).

They're also associated with Buddhist images of clear perception: the mirrors they both carry, the designs of their eyes which both invoke the Buddha eyes.

This kind of clear perception requires seeing yin-yang: being present in the now between past and present, releasing identities such as "self" and "other." It requires seeing the true nature of the world, the connections between apparent opposites.

Most obviously, both main forms use balancing scales to detect mononoke.

I think the function of the Medicine Sellers' main forms is not so much to use the power of the Trigrams, but to use the power of balance and perception to bridge the gap between the heavenly Trigrams and the human world. These are the forms that communicate with the humans, the ones who come to understand their troubles, the ones who can sympathize with their feelings and even risk getting sucked into them. They're neither purely human nor purely divine.

The perceptions and understandings of these forms link the human world back to the elemental alignments: to Ri, Fire, in the series, and to Kun, Earth, in the movie. The main forms show these heavenly natures exactly how they need to be used to correct the earthly overbalances that created the mononoke.

Hey Archer how are you doing? Hope you're somewhat recovered from the shock of yesterday's episode - it certainly left a lot of us with a heavy heart.

Just need your opinion on something that keeps bouncing around my head and refuses to be quiet. I know this kind of scenario is highly unlikely and probably doesn't really make any sense but, but that doesn't stop it from bugging me :D

So here goes (I should have gone anon for this *lol*). What are the chances that Wai could possible, maybe, be in love with Pran and when he find out about him and Pat he concocts that heinous plan out of jealousy? What if his supposed "crush" on Paa was all pretense to distract from the truth, and what if he did what he did to force Pat and Pran to break up so he has a chance?

I know it's crazy but he just seems to oddly.... possessive of Pran, but maybe I'm just imagining things :D

hello, dear!! thank you so much for checking up on me - as usual, i am incredibly emotional on fridays, but i calm down a bit and start actually analyzing things the next day, so i am doing much better now.

we have had quite a few people saying that wai has a crush on pran ever since the show started coming out, but i don't think it makes sense at this point, for a multitude of reasons:

we have had multiple instances of him definitely acting in a way that someone who has a crush wouldn't - he was super excited and bantery with pran in episode 2 about the guy across the hall flirting with him, and in the scene in episode 7 where pat and pran try to make each other jealous with ink and wai respectively, wai reacts in a very "what the fuck are you doing, buddy?" way rather than in any way that someone with a crush would;

the way his crush on pa has been framed, there is no possible way that it's pretense - their meeting, him trying to ask ink about her, all the little details make absolutely no sense if it's just him trying to pretend like he has a crush on her (what's he doing in that case? method acting, so that his crush would be more believable in pran's presence?);

looking back at all instances where he seemed "possessive" of pran, i feel like - with the context that we now have - they were never possessive moments in the first place, and i actually had an anon once ask me why wai is so insistent on "protecting" pran from pat even though pat has never done anything bad to pran specifically, and i now see that this is because it was clearly never about pran - wai sees himself as "the main character" and he made up this rivalry with pat in his head, and he just tries to be as aggressive towards him as possible in all possible situations;

and as a final little note, he is definitely still incredibly manipulative towards pran, which we saw in episode 7 - that means that if he did have a crush on him, we would be dealing with that along with him being a terrible manipulative friend anyway, because the way he forced pran to take his job in the play can't be connected with a potential crush in any way, and i don't think that doing both of these storylines at the same time would make sense.

Personality:

Known as the eccentric and upbeat younger sister to Jade and Floyd, Nyx is the charismatic performer and waitress of the Octavinelle monstro lounge.

Nyx is one of the top students in music class, especially with the amount of effort she puts into her original songs. And the professors can't help but be proud of her efforts in achieving her goals to be an idol.

Though she's shy when it comes to actually releasing her songs, Nyx finds confidence in actually singing them.

Sure there's a few voice cracks here and there, but you'd be able to tell she put her heart and soul into the songs she makes.

Oftentimes, Nyx is found in Pomefiore with its dorm head, Vil Schoenheit.

Though at first there were rumors of a possible relationship, when their romantic affections were revealed via magicam, there was a bit of backlash on Nyx's part.

The backlash increased when Nyx was literally defending herself from the death threats sent towards her. Of course, with the help of Vil; the threats soon subsided.

Outside of being a waitress and performer in Azul's lounge, Nyx occasionally acts as the negotiator for signing contracts.

With her rude but effectively manipulative remarks, Azul's able to have a plethora of signed contracts with ease.

In similar naming fashion to her older brothers, Nyx's unique magic is special in the sense that it's the best method when Azul's clients don't cooperate.

For a brief explanation; basically Nyx is able to electrocute and temporarily petrify those who have reached eye contact, physical contact, or listened to her voice.

The strategy that she uses most frequently is the one where she sings.

The drawbacks do include her voice straining after a certain amount of time. It also depends on the amount of people she petrifies.

The more people are in a petrified state, the harder it will be for Nyx to use her unique magic.

With how wide her vocal range is, it wouldn't be all that surprising to see an entire restaurant of people be unable to move because of Nyx.

Hey Archer, hope you had a great Saturday so far :) This is my first time ever doing an "ask" on here so please be gentle as this might get a bit... rambling. Apologies in advance already.

Obviously this is about "Bad Buddy" which I have not yet officially started watching (though I've been following the craze on Tumblr and kinda.... got invested anyway *lol*). The reason being that I'm reluctant to watch anything that hasn't finished airing since I've been burned in the past ( last one was "Don't Say No" which I really only watched for Leon/Pob and skipped all the messily overdramatic and sexually awkward Leo/Fiat stuff - only to end up really upset with how it ended ... I know, I should have expected it *sigh*).

ANYWAY to get to the point.... as I consider you a "Bad Buddy" expert and one of my Holy Trinity of BL Gurus here on Tumblr (please don't judge) I wanted to ask how likely it is that we get a HEA for the show, or if there is a realistic chance of it ending in tragedy/heartbreak? I really REALLY want to start watching but if this will likely end badly I'd rather not get MORE invested.....

Just to be clear - I don't mind drama and angst and putting them through the wringer....as long as it ends happily. :)
