CF-101 black Voodoo from 414 EW Sqn taken 1986. replaced obsolete Avro CF-100 Canuck in RCAF's all-weather fighter sqns. Voodoo's primary armament was nuclear AIR-2A Genie unguided air-to-air rockets, and there was significant political controversy in Canada about their adoption

Donald Trump neglected to look at a map before he concocted his concept of a "Golden Dome" defense for the US.
President Donald Trump left out a key detail this week when he outlined his plans for a massive missile and air defense shield over the continent: He can’t build it without Canada. And it’s not clear America’s northern neighbor wants in. Canada would need to play a pivotal role in Trump’s signature, potentially $500 billion effort to build the so-called Golden Dome, according to U.S. officials and experts, with Ottawa providing radars and airspace needed to track incoming missiles in the Arctic.
If Putin wants to nuke us, the most likely route would be over the Arctic. Canada is between the US and the Arctic. d'oh!
Considering Trump's belligerent and condescending outbursts aimed at Canada, Canadians are not particularly eager to co-operate with Trump.
Yet whether he realizes it or not, Trump suddenly finds himself in need of an ally he has largely forsaken. He has singled out Canada for free riding on American military might and preferential trade ties, and has engaged in a tariff battle that has stilted relations. Prime Minister Mark Carney has warned the United States can’t take Ottawa for granted and has begun searching for other security partners. [ ... ] Canada has nearly 4 million square miles of territory. That airspace offers a crucial line of sight for U.S. sensors to shoot down missiles that Beijing and Moscow are developing to fly over the North Pole — a huge gap in American air defenses. [ ... ] Carney has framed any investment in Golden Dome as a back-and-forth, not a guarantee. “It’s something that we are looking at and something that has been discussed at a high level,” he said Wednesday in Ottawa . “But not — sure, one negotiates on this.”
The Golden Dome sounds like a warmed over version of Ronald Reagan's discredited "Star Wars" missile defense. Right now, we should think od Trump's project as the "Golden Dumb".

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) has been tracking Santa Claus on Christmas Eve since 1955:
The tradition began when a child accidentally called the Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD) Operations Center instead of Santa. Air Force Col. Harry Shoup, the operations officer, answered the call and asked his staff to check the radar for Santa's location.
How it works
NORAD starts tracking Santa around 4 AM EST on Christmas Eve and uses its website, app, and social media to share his location. Children can also call the toll-free number 1-877-HI-NORAD (1-877-446-6723) to ask "Where's Santa?".
Other ways to track Santa
In addition to the NORAD website and app, children can also use Amazon Alexa, OnStar, and social media to track Santa. If you have children, grandchildren or other ankle biters around, this is actually rather fun and can be done from ANYWHERE in the world... 🎅❤️🎄

WarGames premiered on June 3, 1983. The movie was one of the first to feature computer hacking, which wasn't illegal until after this film. In fact, approximately 4 minutes of the film was used in the opening proceedings that lead to the Comprehensive Crime Control Act in 1984. It was also the first time a computer "firewall" was mentioned in a film. David (Matthew Broderick) was supposedly based on real-life hacker David Scott Lewis, Professor Falken (John Wood) on Stephen Hawking, and the WOPR NORAD computer on the BRGR NORAD computer. The NORAD set cost 1 million dollars, becoming the most expensive set at the time (those in the know have said it was more impressive than the real NORAD war room). Ally Sheedy, who played Jennifer, would go on to also star in Short Circuit (1986), which was directed by WarGames director John Badham. Screenwriters Lawrence Lasker and Walter F Parkes spent time with real hackers and would go on to make the hacking film Sneakers (1992). Matthew Broderick would also play a hacker in Farris Bueller's Day Off (1986). The largest hacker convention, Defcon, was named in honor of the film. WarGames was about a teen who thought he was hacking into a beta version of a new video game, but instead had hacked into a war simulator in NORAD, possibly leading the country into a nuclear war. Can Trump build a Golden Dome without Canada? | About That
Well whaddya know, Donald Trump is antagonizing an ally who would be more than happy to help the US out if we weren’t antagonizing them. I am SHOCKED that this happened....AGAIN

Yearly reminder to go give love to the Norad Santa Tracker
Norad was built to track missiles. Missiles, guys. Missiles that we thought would be sent by russians to kill us and start world war 3 with. But there is a tradition, from before when NORAD was CONAD, started because children started calling due to a misprinted number. Right now (christmas eve 2024) it's being used to track Santa's sleigh as he delivers presents around the world. How useless. How wonderful. What is the Continental Air Defense in the face of a hopeful child? What are missiles in the face of Santa?
