My EPIC Journey

Where do I even begin? I have dreamt of being an animator ever since I was a little girl, growing up with the Disney animation renaissance era as well as a non-stop barrage of anime, in particular Dragonball Z. I even wrote in my high school yearbook that I dreamed of one day working for the studio that worked on Dragonball Z just so I can animate for that very series. And I made sure everyone knew it LOL

The dream didn't materialize, but after decades of struggle, I got something far better than I could ever have imagined. I get to animate at the comfort of my own home. I get the career I've always wanted, and am able to generally work at my own time. I get to work with a wonderful team (drawmisu, Camalemsy, Novi, Nathan Kuan, Jenny) who are generous with their time and talents and are fun to work with. And I get to work with wonderful clients who have changed my life and afforded me and my family the comforts we are enjoying, from Mortius, to Casper Fox, but most of all to Jorge Rivera-Herrans, whom I fondly call simply as Jay.

Jay gave me the amazing opportunity to be part of the roster of talented (skillented according to Casper) animator for the official EPIC: The Musical animatics and animations. He entrusted me with his vision, is just an overall joy to work with, and as some of you may know during the Vengeance Saga, literally saved my life for the simple fact that he commissioned me two animations (Dangerous and 600 strike finale), which allowed me, who does not have health insurance, to afford expensive care for a bad case of pneumonia. Without Jay, I would not only have reached my dreams, but I would literally not be here typing this. (Don't worry, with the generosity of my clients, I am actually now shopping around for a good health insurance company....which I know is a hot button topic right now, but I don't live in the US and our private health care here is often times better than public).

But I digress.

With the premiere of the Ithaca Saga, comes the conclusion of the concept album of EPIC: The Musical. But as Jay mentioned, the journey is far from done. I have so many things planned: more commissioned animatics from clients whom I also consider dear friends, more EPIC fan animatics and animations, more musical animatics from other IPs, an animated short, an animated trailer for my upcoming animated pilot episode, and so much more in the future!

Everything I have, the happiness and contentment that I am experiencing right now would not be possible had my paths not crossed with Jay's and his wonderful EPIC the Musical project. Our paths would not have crossed where it not for the EPIC fans who relentlessly tagged him in my animated works, which made him take notice and reach out. And I would not have become a big fan of EPIC, where it not for my cousin Julia, who had been relentless in her goal to turn me into an EPIC fan ever since the TROY saga dropped (I will never stop thank you, pinsan! Love you so much!)

This is not goodbye. This is see you again soon.

Summary: Harry’s daughter gets some valentines gifts from nursery

“Dad, why’s Vi carrying flowers?” Blake asked, his eyebrow raised as he looked at his youngest sibling walk out the nursery doors. She had a white dress on, small red hearts covering it, her hair in two pigtails.

Harry looked up, his eyes wide as he watched his daughter skip her way down to the nursery gates to meet her father and brother. “No clue, bud” he replies, waving at his daughter, whose arms were overflowing with all sorts of gift bags and flowers.

“Hi Daddy, hi Blakey!” She exclaimed, a smile on her face.

“Hi bug, what’s all this about?” Harry asked as he crouched down in front of his daughter, fixing her hair before leaning to kiss her cheek.

“It’s valentines” the little girl giggles, looking down at all her gifts

Blake blinks, his eyebrows furrowed, “valentines?”

“Yes, this one’s from Jake, this one’s from Landon and this one’s from Kate’s brother and this is from-”

“Boys gave you those?”

“Duh, Jake is a boy name Blakey” Novie rolled her eyes at her brother before turning to her father, who now supported an amused look on his face. “Isn’t that nice Daddy? They smell so good” she giggled, taking a big sniff of the flowers before shoving it in Harry’s face.

“Yeah they’re lovely” he replies, before taking the gifts off her and handing them to Blake to hold. He puts his arms out and his 5-year-old happily accepts, climbing onto her dad. “But, I’m your only Valentine baby” he pouts causing a soft giggle to escape Novie's mouth as he makes his way to the car.

“Silly daddy, are you jealous?” She looks back at Blake who’s still as confused as ever, and surprisingly a lot less dramatic than Harry, “are you jealous too Blakey?”

“No” Blake gruffs, “I'm mad, you’re only a baby Vivi”

“I'm not a baby” Novie gasped, scandalised that Blake would even mention that. “Daddy, mama is your Valentine. I need my own and now I got lots”

“Yeah, you and Mama are my Valentine bug,” Harry speaks, buckling Novie into her seat as Blake gets in the front. After buckling her in, Harry rounds the car and gets into the driver's seat. “Your brothers and I are all you need, you can have a valentine when you’re 36 ok?” Harry asked, putting his key into the ignition.

“Daddy, that’s not fair” Novie says, as she holds one of the teddys that was gifted to her. “Blake has a valentine, why can’t I?” Harry raises his eyebrow at the new piece of information.

Whilst, Blake narrows his eyes as he looks at his little sister, the little snitch he thinks. “I don’t have a valentine, Vi. Besides, you do have a valentine. All of us”

“Ok” Novie sighs and for a second Harry feels bad. “Daddy?”

“Yes, bug?” He asks as he finally pulls out of his parking spot and starts to drive off.

“I love you,” she says, “I love you too Blakey”

Blake shares a smile with Harry before the two tell Novie that they too, love her very much.

“You’re my favourite love Daddy” she smiles, “even if I get valentines from other boys and you Blakey are my second favourite love.”

“You’re my favourite love too Novie Bug” Harry smiles, his eyes softening, making a mental note to smother his daughter in kisses once they get out of the car. She was killing him, so perfect and cute.

“More than mama?” She asks from the back making Blake chuckle softly.

“Yes, even more than mama, bug” Harry speaks, looking through the rearview mirror to see Novie blowing him a kiss. He makes a kissing pout at her.

“Don’t fib Daddy, you love Mama so much more” she giggles.

“It's a different kind of love” he shrugs, “you’ll see when you’re 36” Harry replies as Blake chuckles.

“Now, let’s forget about those stinky boys, who wants ice cream?” Harry asks getting a chorus of me’s from his two kids.

"Ready to entertain the kids today novie" frost says happily as nova looks at him innocence in his eyes "of course frostie" ~ he says in a excited voice as he hugs him. Oh frost precious little sunlight if only he knew what he had planned for him. "So what do you want to do today?" Nova says happily as one of the children chime in "ooo oo how about we all act out snow white." One of the little boys said happily "yeah and we can all be the seven dwarfs and nova can be snow White and first can be the Prince" A girl suggested as nova blushed at the idea but loved it none the less he loved snow white and unknown to nova a lot of the kids seem to be very excited more then usual With frost giving then both a knowing glances. They all set up the stage And the play starts pretty normal. Everything seems to be going well throughout the whole play. But then the part were the prince is supposed to kiss snow White and frost who is playing the prince does easily does and even the end were everyone celebrates but something is added at the very end frost goes down on one knee as all the kids can berly hold back there excitement as nova looks down confused "frostie we both have been there for each other through thick and thin I can think of anyone else that I wouldn't choose as my soul mate. I want to continue saving kids and....even start a family of my own with you. " frost says as nova blushes "Just imagine novie us taking care of kids. I can see how often you want to start a family with how often you mention how good we would be as parents and how you wonder how we would be as parents." Frost says as nova has a puppy love grin on his face "you really remembered all of that frostie. Oh frostie I don't know what I would do without you." Nova says as what feels like his jaw hitting the floor as frost pulls out a dark blue small box "what if you don't have to worry about that." Frost says as the crowd of kids start cheering "ASK HIM"! and "SAY YES NOVA!" To a crowd of cheering kids as frost opens the box to see a special designed ring that changes into a gold ring with a yellow sun gem to a silver ring with a dark blue moon gem depending on who is in control. "novie will you marry me?" Frost asks as tear will up in his eyes as huge ones will up in nova's "YES OH YES FROSTIE OF COURSE!" nova says happily as the crowd of kids cheer as nova puts the ring on and hug tackles frost and give small pecks all over his face. They can finally start a family now together and save kids together just like they always wanted.

I have pretty hair. It's a nice, dark brown with a reddish tint to it in the right light, it's down to my waist, and it's got a pretty wave that comes out effortlessly if I let it air-dry. It would probably look better if I spent more time and money on it, but one of the things I like the most about it is how easy and agreeable it is for the most part. I've figured out how to keep it pretty healthy (though split ends are a never-ending issue), and found a conditioner it really likes. I never do anything with it except a simple ponytail when doing chores, but it thrives this way.

I have a certain...stubbornness? Sticktoitiveness? I might not be the best at figuring out the most effective or efficient or skillful way of getting something done, but I'm good at sticking to a project until it's complete. In terms of writing, this means that if I've gotten past a certain point of actually writing a story, I'll definitely finish it at some point, even if it takes years and isn't maybe the best thing you've ever read ^^' It also extends to other things, like...I'm not the best gamer ever, but I'll keep trying and trying until I eventually beat it. *glances sidelong at the 100+ hours I've put into Star Renegades without ever getting to the end*

A pastor once told me he thought my spiritual gift is patience. I struggle with other fruit of the Spirit plenty, but I do find it relatively easy to be patient most of the time. Part of this is probably due to me just not having a high energy level, so I'm perfectly happy to sit and wait. But yeah, I do think God has given me more patience than some, making it easier for me to sit and listen to someone, to put up with small annoyances, and maybe even lends itself to forgiveness?

I'm good at window-shopping and avoiding impulse buys. A lot of that probably comes from not having a ton of money growing up, not to mention being homeschooled for most of my childhood (and not even being part of a co-op, just me and my family on our own), and thus not having many peers with stupid trends to follow. So I grew up with the understanding that, however much I might want something that looked cool or fun, it was probably too expensive, so don't expect to ever get it. Even now that I'm making my own money and get to decide how to spend it, when I see something that looks desirable, I always check myself with the thought, "But would I actually ever do anything with it?" So yeah, that sword at the ren faire looks really cool, but I would never actually do anything with it, so maybe I'll keep my money and buy some books instead.

This is a big one for me, because the Novie of a couple decades ago would be flabbergasted at me saying it: I like that I cry easily. I'm very empathetic - if you're crying, I'm probably crying. I cry when I'm sad, when I'm happy, when I'm angry, when I'm scared. I cry for movies, I cry for beautiful music, I cry when my friends (even distant acquaintances!) are struggling. I've even cried because the full moon was really pretty! XD During the depths of my teenage angst, this was something I hated about myself, something I tried to stifle, but my emotions are simply too big and can't be contained. And I think I can finally, finally accept that this is simply the way God made me. It can be inconvenient sometimes, but I think tears are a pathway to empathy and connection. There's something instinctive in us when we see someone crying, to want to try to draw near and help them. And that's a good thing.

just to further add to the “novy2sirius is astrosky” conversation, I also call bullshit. Novy can’t possibly be astrosky when Novy made this shady post to subtly defend Aphrodicci and the stuff that’s come out about her. And cupidlovesastro reblogged it and gracefully33 commented “Preach!” under it, very telling.

Also, I believe the stfuteaonastro account was indeed made by Aphrodicci, or at least one of her friends. For some reason I feel like it could’ve been bitdemonic but that’s just my intuition. It’s odd that account would mention bitdemonic and insult her too. Makes me feel like they’re trying to throw us off.

But yeah I checked their following list and they’re following only Aphrodicci’s inner circle. It’s fucking disgusting when you remember that they were harassing tarotbyjam for no reason and told me, y’all, Lexa, and Datura to literally die and get r worded.

Yeah, we also call bullshit on this. There’s absolutely no way that Novy and Astrosky are the same person.

What’s truly disgusting is how people continue to defend Aphrodicci and overlook her racism, let alone everything else. There are no “conclusions” to be drawn here. We’ve provided evidence multiple times. Aphrodicci has created countless fake accounts to harass people, doxx them, use racial slurs, and more. How can anyone look at cold, documented proof and still call it a lie? When will people stop pretending this didn’t happen? We’ve never lied- not once-and yet here we are. At this point, they’re not just ignorant; they’re choosing to be complicit, and that complicity needs to be held accountable.

Defending someone who has been openly racist, fatphobic, homophobic, and misogynistic is not a neutral stance, it’s enabling them, thus making THEM complicit and a huge part of the problem too.

As for @stfuteaonastro: we agree. It has to be one of them. The list is way too specific, and they clearly targeted their known victims (minus tarotbyjam). A few names were conspicuously absent, which made the whole thing even more telling. We also clocked that @eternalpisces liked one of their posts and that alone speaks volumes.

Either way, it’s absolutely vile. How can anyone wish r*pe on another human being? At this point, we don’t even know what to say about that group anymore. It’s beyond words.

Yugoslavia and yugo rock

Joker Out’s new song, Šta bih ja, was inspired by yugorock! Not sure what that means? JokerOutSubs has got you!

‘Yugo rock’ or ‘Yu rock’ is rock with some elements derived from traditional/ethnic/folklore music, as well as other musical genres, including blues, country, reggae, jazz rock and rockabilly. They were added to appease the public, since rock itself was considered a western influence. 

Rock music in Yugoslavia became popular in the sixties. Before that, after the second world war, partisan songs were more popular. This is music associated with resistance groups that fought German occupation across Yugoslavia, Italy and other parts of Eastern Europe. However, in 1956, the Cominform (a coordinated body of communist parties across Europe, designed to keep all communist governments following Stalinist principles) was dissolved. After this point, the connection with the Soviet Union was severed and music tastes began to change accordingly. 

With influences from the west, rock music started gaining popularity. At first, musicians only sang covers of foreign songs (as closely to the original as possible) but in the sixties, bands such as Indexi started making original music. In the seventies, Bijelo dugme were formed and became incredibly popular. At the same time, Parni valjak were also rising to fame. However, the ‘new wave’ of Yugo rock was said to be started by a group called Buldožer.

Some characteristics of New Wave were more political lyrics and taking inspiration from punk. The most famous New Wave bands in Yugoslavia were Azra, Idoli, Prljavo kazalište, Električni orgazam, Psihomodo pop and, in Slovenia at the time, Lačni Franz, Buldožer and Pankrti (an interview with their singer Peter Lovšin can be found at    • [ENG SUB] Bojan Cvjetićanin about roc...  ). 

A second New Wave generation from Belgrade emerged in later years. Among their representatives were Partibrejkers (formed 1982). They combined the blues with British R and B, rockabilly and classic rock and roll. 

In 1982, the groups Ekaterina Velika and Disciplina Kičme (Disciplin A Kitschme) were established, contributing to the second New Wave generation, along with Slovenian group Videosex (formed 1983) with singer Anja Rupel. One of their most famous songs, a cover of 'Zemlja pleše,' can be found at    • Videosex - Zemlja Plese - The Original

The New Wave was characterised by a burst of creativity and activity in the music scene across the region, with many artists emerging and creating excellent music in a short period of time. Many have drawn parallels between the New Wave era and today, where in Slovenia many young bands are gaining recognition. This parallel is only strengthened by the fact that Joker Out, one of the most successful young bands in Slovenia today, have a song named Novi val (New Wave). 

The socio-political significance

Yugoslavia (1918–1992), a federal republic, was made up of six republics (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia). Despite the differences between the republics one could argue that the pop-cultural identity was so strong, having influence that went beyond government control and the ability to connect people through the region, that it could be named as the seventh republic. Besides sport, yugorock was one of the last connecting links within a  country that was drifting apart in a variety of areas, including economic. 

Important yugorock bands 

Bijelo Dugme: Considered by many to be the biggest Yugo rock band, Bijelo Dugme were formed in 1974 in Sarajevo. They were the biggest trendsetters in rock music at the time. They had a huge influence on Joker Out since their earliest days as a band. In the 'Kofi brejk' interview Bojan shared that the first concert he ever attended was by Bijelo Dugme, and they were also mentioned several times by Joker Out as having had a big influence on the whole band. In addition, Joker Out covered two of their songs, ‘Selma’ (Radio Koper, 32 min) and ‘Djurdjevdan’ (Belgrade concert, 3.11.2023). Plavi orkestar were formed in 1983 in Sarajevo and had a rich career with eight albums, releasing hits such as ‘Ako su to samo bile laži’, ‘Lovac i košuta’, ‘Odlazim’, ‘Bolje biti pijan nego star’, ‘Suada’ and many more. Some media outlets, like Jutarnji list and Mladina have compared Joker Out’s style to theirs, and Bojan also mentioned Plavi orkestar as one of the bands that influenced him.

Parni valjak are a Croatian band, formed in 1975 in Zagreb. They had many ‘evergreen’ hits, including ‘Sve još miriše na nju’, ‘Jesen u meni’ and ‘Zastave’. In the Carpe Diem series, when asked whom they would listen to forever if they could only choose one artist, Jure chose Parni valjak. At Arsenal Fest in 2023, Bojan interrupted an interview to sing along to ‘Jesen u meni’ as they were playing in the background! 

Indexi were a Bosnian band, who were active from 1962 to 2001. They were extremely influential, with hits like ‘Svijet u kome živim’ and ‘Negdje u kraju, u zatišju’, and became known as the ‘pioneers of psychedelic rock and roll.’ In the Kurir interview, Bojan mentions them as one of his musical role models.

Ekatarina velika, sometimes shortened to EKV, were a Serbian band who were active between 1982 and 1994. They are considered one of the most influential artists in the yugorock scene, with popular songs like ‘Krug’, ‘Par godina na nas’ and ‘Srce’. In the Rdeče in črno interview, Bojan’s voice was compared to that of the lead singer in Ekatarina velika. 

Idoli were one of the most remarkable new wave bands based in Belgrade, active during the early 80's. They are regarded as one of the most outstanding and influential representatives of the Yugoslav rock music and their album 'Odbrana i poslednji dani' ('Defense and The Last Days') was voted as the greatest Yugoslav rock album of all time. During the Kurir interview, Bojan mentioned that ‘Ona’ was inspired by Idoli and their unique sound.

Songs Joker Out have mentioned 

‘Računajte na nas’ by Đorđe Balašević is a very important yugorock song in Joker Out’s history, as it inspired the lyrics of ‘Carpe Diem’. While ‘Računajte na nas’ (‘Count on Us’) is about a generation standing up and fighting for peace, Bojan switched the lyric to ‘ne računajte na nas’ (don’t count on us), meaning that you cannot count on them to join in with the ‘game of hatred’ pervasive in modern society. 

‘Kreni prema meni’ is a song performed by Partibrejkers, a Serbian rock band from Belgrade, known for their rebellious energy, both in sound and spirit. The band is still active and well received all over former Yugoslav countries. The song was covered by Joker Out at the Lent festival in 2018.

‘Sanjao sam moju Ružicu’ by Leteći odred was covered by Apokalipsa, Bojan’s former band, in 2015 during Vičstock Avdicija. Bojan also sang it at the Prulček bar with Buržuzija, Kris and Jan’s former band. Leteći odred is a Croatian pop band with a prosperous and successful musical career and performances for over 30 years.

In September 2016, Joker Out posted a setlist from one of their earliest gigs on their Instagram. It included three notable yugorock song covers - ‘Frida’ by Psihomodopop, ‘Motori’ by Divlje jagode and ‘Ne Zovi Mama Doktora’ by Prljavo Kazalište.

What's more traumatic than the fact that I could've died yesterday is seeing just how comfortable our government is with spreading propaganda.

The canopy was renovated. Repeat after me, the canopy was renovated. They're spreading the story that they didn't touch it, that it's the commies fault from sixty years ago... Even though the entirety of Novi Sad, anyone who has stepped foot near the train station in the past two years, can tell you that we saw the canopy being renovated with our own two eyes. But they want their hands to seem clean to the elderly who worship Vučić like he's god. To those who live in random villages and are too tech illiterate to see the proof for themselves.

News portals are going back to old articles and editing out mentions of the canopy being renovated, saying the entire train station was renovated except it. Where did those 60 million go, then?

They're not even trying to hide that it's propaganda anymore. They're looking at us in the eyes and gaslighting us, knowing full well that Serbian people are too passive to do anything about it. We saw it with our own two eyes, and they're telling us it's not true.

Not to mention that people who work for Novi Sad emergency services are claiming the death toll is actually around 30. They're lying to us about the numbers. Those benches were always full of homeless people, and yet somehow none of them were there during the catastrophe?

What happened yesterday was not a tragedy, it was a crime. A crime of negligence, selfishness and corruption that the government is trying to push under the rug. A crime so big that it can't fit under the rug, so they're hiding it only from the elderly, only from those who blindly vote for Vučič anyway, knowing that those who see the truth won't do anything about it.

The government wipes their ass with our peaceful protests.

OKC was not my best con and I was definitely struggling with anxiety from chaotic changes in schedule and my worst enemy, "comparison is the thief of joy." But there were still a few cute ops out of it.

I missed out on this op in Austin so was happy to snag one for OKC. The Radio Company panel was the absolute highlight of the con <3

Once again, I failed to look at the camera, but got a good ol' squish. And was briefly delighted that Jensen called me "sweetheart" as I was exiting... until I almost immediately heard two other people say he'd called them the same and it took all the wind out of my sails (I was having a hard time, okay).

This is one of the Cas-iest, Cas ops I've had. And Mish did this cute arm grab squeezy thing as we were separating that did actually make me feel pretty okay for a bit.

I mention I was having a hard time not for sympathy or anything but because sometimes it feels like sharing how many cons I do feels like this ideal world I'm painting, when the reality is that I'm often feeling invisible and like I'm chasing interactions that others grab with ease. I spend far too much time at cons alone, stuck in my own head, and often undermining myself in interactions. And leave each one thinking, "I'll do better next time." Sometimes I do. We'll see if I manage to do better in Novi.

thots on islam/muslims?

Islam itself is varied in how objectionable the theology is, people pretend it's like Catholicism (or at least Orthodoxy) in terms of how structured it is -- but it's barely more organized, in terms of "what is properly Islamic", than protestantism. A lot of the discussion around Islam in Christian countries basically ignores that, which is like using idk Calvinism as the basis for polemics against Christianity on the whole. A lot of the stories around "Muslim savagery" are about people influenced by, or a part of, the Salafist movement -- in the same way "Christian" zionism is influenced by Evangelicalism.

This isn't universally true, and I'm not getting into medieval history with this, but it's also generally easier to say "God wants me to do this" when there's no central authority to contradict you (and instead just people you already rule over) regardles of religion. The whole taqiyya thing is pure hasbara bullshit, it takes minutes to learn what it's actually about.

This is all encouraged by so-called Israel, for what should be obvious reasons.

So in that vein, my thoughts on their religion is more on the baseline of their theology, which is that they're wrong but (frankly) imo some of their sects are less wrong than some protestants are. Obviously they're more wrong than the Oriental Orthodox by a lot, because the OOs are at this point one theological point away from us. Catholics are, if we're being honest, about 5 away from us and have a lot of disagreeable praxis. But there's kinds of protestantism, not minor ones by the way, that (like Muslims) also have such a distant view from what's correct (us) about God that they worship a different entity altogether.

In terms of Muslim people, I don't have any negative feelings really. Obviously there's groups of them I hate, but I'd also hate them if they were Orthodox, so I guess I'm glad they're Muslims so I can hate them without feeling guilty. Most of the Muslims I've known personally have been good people, and some of them I even owe a life to, so I have a good view of them really.

Obviously, it'd depend on the country I'm in. I live in Serbia, a Muslim from Novi Pazar isn't even going to act differently from the rest of us until he (invariably) mentions being Muslim hoping someone says something about it (they love being oppressed, so we don't oppress them out of spite).

If I lived somewhere that you can get deported for major crimes, there'd really be no difference in how I deal with them than any outsider. If I lived somewhere that doesn't do that, then obviously I wouldn't want to deal with them at all.

I am working on Chapter Two of Overhaul, here's some single dad bonding from both Tien and Yamcha, the bar that Frieza mentioned might be a Gay Bar, dunno.
