As cameras becomes more normalized (Sarah Bernhardt encouraging it, grifters on the rise, young artists using it), I wanna express how I will never turn to it because it fundamentally bores me to my core. There is no reason for me to want to use cameras because I will never want to give up my autonomy in creating art. I never want to become reliant on an inhuman object for expression, least of all if that object is created and controlled by manufacturing companies. I paint not because I want a painting but because I love the process of painting. So even in a future where everyone’s accepted it, I’m never gonna sway on this.

if i have to explain to you that using a camera to take a picture is not the same as using generative ai to generate an image then you are a fucking moron.

#ask me #anon #no more patience for this #i've heard this for the past 2 years #“an object created and controlled by companies” anon the company cannot barge into your home and take your camera away #or randomly change how it works on a whim. you OWN the camera that's the whole POINT #the entire point of a camera is that i can control it and my body to produce art. photography is one of the most PHYSICAL forms of artmakin #you have to communicate with your space and subjects and be conscious of your position in a physical world.#that's what makes a camera a tool. generative ai (if used wholesale) is not a tool because it's not an implement that helps you #do a task. it just does the task for you. you wouldn't call a microwave a “tool”#but most importantly a camera captures a REPRESENTATION of reality. it captures a specific irreproducible moment and all its data #read Roland Barthes: Studium & Punctum #generative ai creates an algorithmic IMITATION of reality. it isn't truth. it's the average of truths.#while conceptually that's interesting (if we wanna get into media theory) but that alone should tell you why a camera and ai aren't the sam #ai is incomparable to all previous mediums of art because no medium has ever solely relied on generative automation for its creation #no medium of art has also been so thoroughly constructed to be merged into online digital surveillance capitalism #so reliant on the collection and commodification of personal information for production #if you think using a camera is “automation” you have worms in your brain and you need to see a doctor #if you continue to deny that ai is an apparatus of tech capitalism and is being weaponized against you the consumer you're delusional #the fact that SO many tumblr lefists are ready to defend ai while talking about smashing the surveillance state is baffling to me #and their defense is always “well i don't engage in systems that would make me vulnerable to ai so if you own an apple phone that's on you”#you aren't a communist you're just self-centered

new objectsona idea: lighty, a light particle/wave! some fun details below :)

a lot of the time, lighty is easygoing, optimistic, and full of energy! they love to explore every nook and cranny around them, discovering new things; they also love to help others, being their guiding light when they need it most! in this state, lighty is very friendly and bright, and they're always on the move, zipping about to get things done (they're a bit of an overachiever)! when energized, lighty is especially partial to entering a prism and creating a rainbow!

when lighty gets tired, which is indeed very often, their glow dims, and so does their demeanor... still kind, yes, but subdued, quiet, and reserved. it doesn't take much to sap lighty's joyful energy: physical exertion from working, as well as mental stress. on occasion, when their anxiety exceeds their fatigue, lighty flares up with nervous energy, causing them to shine as brightly as ever, but with an erratic spark and jittery movement.

lighty is completely intangible: their only effect is radiating light. they cannot physically interact with others... normally they don't mind, happy to just bring brightness and joy to others' lives, but sometimes they can't help but feel lonely, wishing they could feel someone else's touch...

Went insane w the compulsion to illustrate (inasfar as it is ‘illustration’ when you very visibly leave the sketch in… semantics?) from The Last Will and Testament of Cazador Szarr by @abigailmoment bcos it gave me brainworms so intense i momentarily became capable of picking up a pen recreationally. This dialogue is taken directly from ch2 of the story :D

Gale’s robe is heavily referenced from this piece by jazzyjellojojo, whose rendition of the unfortunate reluctant vampire lord gale is inimitable and amazing!

#my art #commission #object oc #Back again with a another lovely commission!!#Full disclosure I almost bit off way more than I can chew with this one hehe #Which isn't necessarily a bad thing/ rather it's just the fact I give myself a lot of details and structures to keep track of #And with me wanting to get things done fast it did put a challenge on me with how much I had to add + add on #All that being said I'm incredibly proud of this!! I just need to let myself slow down and take in all the details in all #The character/design here give me a lot to work with and I'm really glad I manage to capture some of those ideas here!#That and I think this is my largest MS work yet. And if not it's definitely my largest currently #I'd say it mostly the wings that did it hehe #Though overall I hope that the details on clutter aren't *too* overwhelming #I used the wings to as a sort of pallete cleanser. While still detailed they're mostly blank so the eyes can rest of then #Then with the wings naturally trail back to the figure the eye can go back when they're ready #That's what I hoped for of course! Only you the view can decide if such a thing work for you now

the problem with birdmen okay, is that it was too liminal. it stayed between two uncommitted states for too long. serialized in a shonen magazine and yet content-wise leaned far more seinen. hinting at homosexuality and communism but doing so in a deeply plausibly deniable fashion such that nobody really has anything to hang onto. and above all, despite literally naming her series BIRDMEN, falling just shy of capturing the furry imagination. a TOTAL failure on all fronts

#just thinking thoughts...#SORRYYYY THAT LAST POINT IS SO CRAZY TO ME #BRO YOU DIDN'T EVEN LIKE YOUR CHARACTER DESIGNS GIRLLLL WHAT ARE YOU DOINGGGG #like okay I get it right. one of THE biggest ships coming out of kks is those gay ass dogs right.#but the thing is that those dogs were PROPER furries. they were actually legitimate animals brother!!#bm is just walking that fine line where the animalistic aspect is a burden to people like me who aren't furries #But yet is just not quite enough to capture the imagination of people who ARE.#like miss tanabe. remember how isseya could cure the griffon eggs of the blight by drawing it out of them with blood magic and putting it into something else, because the taint couldn't be destroyed it could only be moved? where did merrill put it

imagining how eiden starts to do a lot of impromptu "visualisation" exercises when blade joins the roster

BLADE: but why was lil yakumo embarrassed when i showed garugaru the box in front of-- EIDEN: (sighing goodnaturedly) ok, say..um *grabs the nearest two items* pretend this cup is garu, and this spoon is yakumo---

after some repetition, eiden wonders if blade will understand better if he just has dolls representing everyone thus begins the plushie brigade
