Which by the way I'm getting so irritated this is off topic but does anyone remember in the movie Deep Impact (I think it was that one one of those disaster movies) Morgan Freeman played the president and when the time came to announce that the SHTF he not only told the ppl not to panic (though they inevitably will, there will always be the humans running out to hoard toilet paper); but he ALSO laid down some laws immediately he froze ALL prices saying NO PRICE GOUGING YOU HEATHENS (something to that effect) and I just freaking every day like I know it would take something like an E.O. or declaring emergency or war act or whatever in order to do this but PLEASE GOD CAN YOU JUST DO THAT bc seriously the inflation the gas prices rent everything- IT'S NOT ALL ACTUAL INFLATION IT'S BIG COMPANIES PRICE GOUGING AND MAKING RECORD PROFITS JUST BC THEY CAN then small local businesses and all consumers are just screwed and it is NOT okay it's being projected to keep going up whilst simultaneously complaining about homelessness like bitches hellO I just have to scream a minute

It's getting cold outside, and winter is coming sooner than we'd like to acknowledge. When you own a piece of heavy machinery, you understand how important it is to keep it well-maintained to ensure that it lasts as long as possible and always functions at peak efficiency. Pre Winter Preparation
Make sure your machinery has been serviced as per manufacturer guidelines by scheduling an inspection and maintenance before winter sets in. At this time, battery connections should also be inspected and cleaned. Corroded terminals might cause complications with starting and charging. Operators should remove any dirt or debris from the top of the battery, as it might create a conductive route and deplete energy slowly. The primary consideration here is ensuring that the terminal posts and cables have clean and secure contact, so providing the best and most consistent current flow from the batteries to the machine.
Maintain a full fuel tank
Fill the tank when storing equipment in winter to avoid condensation from polluting fuel lines. After each use, refill the fuel tank and empty and clean the water separator to prevent freezing and algae growth and to remove water, debris and sediments. With a clean fuel system, the machine can handle even the coldest winters. Even if the machinery was reasonably new before storage, filters may need to be changed. Make sure to provide room for expansion while loading fluids, especially diesel exhaust fluid (DEF). Machine reservoirs are designed to handle freezing DEF, but store bulk DEF in heated storage during winter. Your local dealer can help you store and handle DEF, which is sensitive to temperature. 
Conduct a Visual Inspection
Before putting a machine into storage or using it in the winter, it is best practise to inspect it visually and do any necessary maintenance or repairs. Hydraulic hoses and connections require extra care. As a result, they are more likely to break under stress in the cold. Before starting off, it's a good idea to inspect the condition of the electrical wiring, attachments, and hoses, as well as the rest of the equipment. Check the condition of the hydraulic hoses, belts, and tyres for any signs of damage. Clean the tyres and undercarriage of any snow, dirt, and debris.
Take care of Tires
To avoid the tyres freezing to the ground, remove any snow or ice from them and park the machinery on boards. Tire pressure should be checked often. Dry nitrogen should be used to replenish the tyres if the pressure lowers, which can happen in colder temperatures. Tire air valves are protected from ice formation by using dry nitrogen. Not all heavy machinery will have tyres, but if yours does, make sure to check the pressure before putting it away. Tire pressure should be set according to the owner's handbook. However, if you plan to store your machinery on a cement floor, it may be a good idea to slightly over-inflate the tyres to avoid flat areas. We all know that in cooler temperatures, they can lose air pressure more rapidly. .

In November 2023, news broke that a number of Western energy companies, including British Petroleum (BP), were granted gas exploration licences in occupied Palestinian waters by the Israeli Ministry of Energy. While it will take years before these sites are converted into reliable sources of gas, activist groups in the US and Britain have protested these business deals, brokered in the shadow of an ongoing genocide. The motivation for Israel’s genocidal, Western-backed siege on Gaza cannot be reduced to the exploitation of its marine gas fields. The ongoing genocide should be understood as part of the logic of US imperialism and its proxy state which enacts its interests in the region: the Zionist settler colonial project, which seeks to ethnically cleanse all of historic Palestine, seize natural resources, and use and export its fuel supplies for the consolidation of its military and economic power.  Indeed, our protests against BP’s gas licences are not in isolation. Like other activist groups in Turkey and Colombia, we campaign against energy companies partnering with Israeli businesses to supply fuel to Israel. For this reason, we situate BP’s gas licence within its larger role in fuelling Israel. BP is the operator and largest shareholder of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline, which is supplying Israel with 28% of its oil during its genocide. In this investigation we explore BP’s colonial history and the supply chain of the BTC pipeline. We also delve into the social licences that facilitate BP’s operations abroad. Social licences are a commercial and metaphorical concept describing corporations' process of acquiring public approval as an added layer of legitimacy for their ongoing profit-driven, colonial business practices. Focusing on the BTC pipeline reveals how Zionist settler-colonialism is central to the continued extraction of oil in the Middle East, and global uneven accumulation, where wealth is concentrated in the Global North. The liberation of Palestine and regional anti-Zionist resistance must therefore be central to the larger struggle against capitalism and for a just transition. Organising from the imperial core against the Zionist occupation of Palestine then becomes about much more than just holding the perpetrators of genocide to account. It is part of the bigger fight against imperialism – which exterminates populations and ecologies for the continued flow of value to the Global North.

The United Kingdom is facing dire food shortages, forcing prices to skyrocket, and experts predict this is only the beginning.
What's happening?
According to a report by The Guardian, extreme weather is wreaking havoc on crops across the region. England experienced more rainfall during the past 18 months than it has over any 18-month period since record-keeping began in 1836.
Because the rain hasn't stopped, many farmers have been unable to get crops such as potatoes, carrots, and wheat into the ground. "Usually, you get rain but there will be pockets of dry weather for two or three weeks at a time to do the planting. That simply hasn't happened," farmer Tom Allen-Stevens told The Guardian.
Farmers have also planted fewer potatoes, opting for less weather-dependent and financially secure crops. At the same time, many of the potatoes that have been planted are rotting in the ground.
"There is a concern that we won't ever have the volumes [of potatoes] we had in the past in the future," British Growers Association CEO Jack Ward told The Guardian. "We are not in a good position and it is 100% not sustainable," Ward added.
Why is it important?
English farmers aren't alone — people are struggling to grow crops worldwide because of extreme weather.
Dry weather in Brazil and heavy rain in Vietnam have farmers concerned about pepper production. Severe drought in Spain and record-breaking rain and snowfall in California have made it difficult for farmers to cultivate olives for olive oil. El Niño and rising temperatures cut Peru's blueberry yield in half last year. Everyone's favorite drinks — coffee, beer, and wine — have all been impacted by extreme weather.
According to an ABC News report, the strain on the agriculture industry will likely continue to cause food prices to soar.
If these were just isolated events, farmers could more easily adapt — bad growing seasons are nothing new. The problem is that rising temperatures are directly linked to the increasing amount of gases such as carbon dioxide and methane in the atmosphere.
Since the start of the Industrial Revolution, humans have burned dirty energy sources such as coal, oil, and gas, which release a significant amount of those gases. Our climate is changing so drastically that the 10 warmest years since 1850 have all occurred in the last decade.
"As climate change worsens, the threat to our food supply chains — both at home and overseas — will grow," Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit analyst Amber Sawyer told The Guardian.
What can we do about it?
"Fortunately, we know many ways we can make the food system more resilient while reducing food emissions. The biggest opportunity in high-income nations is a reduction in meat consumption and exploration of more plants in our diets," said Dr. Paul Behrens, an associate professor of environmental change at Leiden University in the Netherlands.
If we replace a quarter of our meat consumption with vegetables, we could cut around 100 million tons of air pollution yearly. It may seem strange to suggest eating more vegetables with the decline in crop production. However, reducing the land and water used for animal agriculture and diverting those resources to growing more produce would drastically help the declining food supply.
Growing our own food is also a great way to reduce our reliance on store-bought produce, and it can save you hundreds of dollars a year at the grocery store.

what’s your opinion on whisky being our national industry, when I was a kid I really thought that it was a least a large player until I started working within it and found that most companies and distilleries are owned by someone in America or Thailand and seems now that something we’re so famous for once again doesn’t serve us as much as it could
When I say national industries I don't necessarily mean nationalised but I get your point.
Whisky is definitely one of our national industries but it's pretty niche in comparison to the juggernaut that is Oil & Gas, not to be dismissive of the Whisky supply chain!
