What kind of mothers were Irma and Melania? And what kind of fathers were Pollux and Arcturus lol

Irma was basically Walburga Prime. So, controlling and domineering and fairly not in touch with her feelings (or committed to responding to her kids' emotional needs.) Super critical. Melania was very traditional, conservative, had more of a naturally sweet side than Irma (low bar), but was also meek and deferential to her rather autocratic husband. Pollux I've always seen as being rather blustering and obtuse—the kind of man who has a quick temper but is a bit easier to steer in the direction you want than Arcturus. Arcturus is basically who Orion is trying to be in BSDU but was never able to fully master—the ultimate Stern Victorian Wizard Father (tm.) He had his soft moments, particularly with Lucretia, but poor 'Rion never felt like he was good enough.

Supernova Family Tree

I got a comment on Supernova, asking for a family tree. it turns out that creating a family tree on a computer is a lot harder than I thought it would be! Also, I went back and forth on ages, so forgive me if the dates don't perfectly line up with canon (I had to change them around for some obvious points, like Pollux and Cygnus becoming fathers at 13 based on JKR's tree).

Chapter 14 notes

Because I adore this story with my whole heart and wrote this chapter in a feral three day blitz and have massive Pietas brain rot, here are some of my notes:

Melania Macmillan- she is increasingly seeming like the glue that held the family together. She curbed Arcturus's excesses and taught both Sirius and Orion to look for their stars when they were upset. I also added the parallel of Arcturus tending her plants just like Sirius tried to at Grimmauld (they both loved her so much but can't express it in a healthy way).

Arcturus and his trauma- He is deeply affected by the chaos of troubled childhood and is therefore very strict and harsh on those around him. He is also massively projecting his father onto Sirius.

Dalia- she was not cut out for motherhood and while her husband wasn't unkind to her, there is some truth in what she wrote. Also she does love her daughter (in her own way).

The rivalry between Otto and Darcy was supposed to be a mirror to Regulus and Sirius- albeit one that is kept in check by their 'mother'.

The way Aeliana is hesitant but not afraid to speak with Leone is a contrast to how Regulus suppresses his emotions when speaking with Orion. Also Leone has a fully thought-out plan about how he would flay Sirius alive (do I find the unhinged protectiveness hot?..........)

Regulus tangling his thoughts about Aeliana with Walburga- I wonder what he's really jealous of.

Sirius is that mix of vulnerable and cocky - also, he would totally create art if he set his mind to becoming a poet.

Neither of the teenagers is thinking in this chapter and I enjoyed using the symbol of sweat-soaked sheets and the different forms of media they were drawing from in their dreams (Aeliana = her smutty romance books and Sirius= his stolen magazines).
