When they were smaller, Leo and Mikey often did that “tie two cans via string to talk to each other” trick, except with the addition of them both being in their shells as they do so. For some reason, this was seen as fun to them, like a cool “secret” way to talk to each other.

Over time, they did it less and less, especially since Leo rarely retracted into his shell anymore.

But on rare occasions, Mikey would have a bad day, and things would be just a little easier completely immersed into his shell.

On those days, Leo would roll a can over to Mikey, the other can in his own hands. Then, Leo would get in his shell at Mikey’s side and just talk. He’d make bad jokes, tell funny stories, anything until Mikey is giggling and joining in.

Leo wouldn’t mention it when they pop back out of their shells, but Mikey’s grateful anyway.

And when the invasion happens and passes, and one day Leo is panicked enough to retract completely into a cracked shell, it’s Mikey’s shaky hands that roll the can over.

They don’t even need to talk - it’s enough to just have the option, to have that lifeline.

It’s again not mentioned when they pop out of their shells, but Leo’s grateful anyway.

Hunter is eight years old the first time the Emperor puts things plainly.

But he's understood the situation for a while, so it's actually kind of a relief when Belos takes him aside.

"This curse is... difficult," the Emperor tells him, which is not news. One of his hands grips Hunter's shoulder, the other tipping his chin up, because he's so much taller and he needs to be sure that Hunter is paying attention.

"Luz doesn't always understand the danger she's in," Belos adds, which is an understatement. "Her human body is much more fragile than your own. This place wasn't built for creatures like her."

"I know," Hunter says.

The grip on his shoulder tightens, painful. "You know?"

He could kick himself. It's not the first time he's spoken out of turn; the consequences tend to be more pronounced for him than they ever are for Luz.

But now he's being asked a direct question, so he says, "I know she's fragile. She's -- she -- she doesn't mean to aggravate you, Uncle. Please-"

"And yet," Belos says lightly, "I do so frequently find myself aggravated."

Hunter falls silent.

His worst fear is that his clumsy words might get Luz hurt. So he's surprised when the Emperor drops to a knee to level with him, something he can't remember Belos ever doing before.

"I'm worried sick about her, Hunter," he murmurs. "All it takes is one bad day, and then -- well."

"Maybe she can stay away," Hunter suggests, "on your bad days, maybe she can-"

"Hush."

Hunter shuts up. Again.

"Do you really think any of the witches here can be trusted to care for her properly?" Belos asks.

Hard to say. There's clearly a right answer, though, so Hunter shakes his head.

"Of course not. No, I won't have my daughter locked away from me. But I do worry. One of these days, if I'm aggravated, the curse may drive me to do something... terrible. It would break my heart to see her suffer."

I know. Hunter manages to hold his tongue this time, but he does know. He's known from the moment that Belos took Luz under his wing. Whenever he can shadow them, he does. Luz never minds; she always likes the extra company. She doesn't know how often he's sick with fear.

"Do it to me," Hunter says. "If you... if you need to... if she makes you angry, then do it to me."

The grip on his shoulder relaxes. It's impossible to read Belos past the mask, but he doesn't seem upset.

"That's quite a sacrifice," he says.

"I can take it. She can't."

Belos nods, humming. "I suppose that does work as a solution. Thank you, Hunter. I'm so glad I can rely on you."

The new roommate was Chansung, another one of Noah's bros, who's also studying history like Renee! The trio went out to get some fresh air after unpacking and Renee received a call. "Hello?" she answered not knowing who it was, but she was quickly distracted by a dog who came to greet her. The owner came after with her phone in her hand, the name Renee as the caller ID. At that moment Renee knew who it was, it was V (by @tulipsimss), "V is that you?" she said.

Ramble under cut

This month has been so hard on me for no reason at all. Like. I sprained my wrist and every time it gets better I mess up my wrist again 😭

To be fair spraining my wrist happened every year because of an incident that happened but still….

So attacks have been so slow. I’m still drawing though since idc and I gotta suck it up. It’s just things have been so slow

The Idia drawing was so cute I’m glad I drew it.

The pocket pals one is cute and funny because poor Luke (blue hair) being stuck listening to kuuubi(one laying) ranting about her husband for hours.

Third one I find funny because DjYuu having a small kick at the height of Yuunova (friends sona) but not being open about it(?) smiling under her mouth, finding Yuunova cute.

Third one. Ace called Yuunova short so she kicked him….(but she likes him so….)

The last one is my irl friends oc hanging with my roach Zombie oc. She is so amused as he plays the bass. Ngl it looks like she wants to take a bite out of the guitar LOL just besties being silly.

so THIS WEEKEND I left my home to drive some friends to see another friend in a production of Heathers the Musical and after forgetting the the year 2024 existed for five straight hours, we got in the car to drive back home and someone in the backseat said "BIDEN DROPPED OUT" and this is two weekends in a row which I don't know if I should take to mean that I should leave my home more times or fewer times

the thing about princess AU luz is that she's unrelentingly kind while navigating circumstances that would make any reasonable person scream piss shit tear their clothes off and set several buildings on fire. meanwhile AU hunter is unrelentingly bitchy and annoying to everybody but always there immediately whenever he's needed. conclusion: phone customer service rep and her fatalistically loyal IT guy. i guess
