I'm kinda glad I opened the game earlier today before the server maintenance and update. I got to spend my remaining pancakes on red keys before it was removed.

In a normal circumstance, I hate Netflix. However, they struck a deal to produce new episodes of Sesame Street and will ensure that the episodes remain free and accessible on PBS for all kids and for that, they deserve gratitude.
Additionally, unlike the deal previous struck with HBO, this one with Netflix also makes its so new episodes are simultaneously available via Netflix, PBS, and the PBS Kids app.
Please continue to support Sesame Street and all the other PBS programming via donations to ensure everyone, kids and adults alike, continue to have access to educational viewing.

As a fellow rural Jew who grew up on a farm in Kansas, lived in Alabama for some time, and is now living on the east coast for the first time: just wanted to commiserate with you that holy shit do Jews who’ve always lived in a Jewish community need to experience being Jewish and isolated in a rural space. The bubble needs to be popped.
The accessibility to kosher food and in-person community alone is so drastically different, but the feeling I hate the most is that I just don’t feel Jewish enough in highly Jewish populated areas. I simply don’t have the same experiences. Jewish representation in popular media looks absolutely foreign to me. I didn’t have access to Hebrew school growing up; we had a traveling rabbi that drove 2-3 hours for special life events only. Shul looked like a community led service in a run-down community building, but never enough people for a minyan. I never went to summer camp, my Hebrew pronunciation sounds different because everything was self taught and internet access was spotty and often times nonexistent- it wasn’t really until I went to college that I met other Jews my age, and even then, our campus Hillel had like, maybe 10 people because it was a rural state public agriculture university in Kansas.
The Jewish American experience is so vast and different but it really is frustrating to listen to those in the bubble believe that their experience is the universal experience.
Also! You may enjoy a documentary I helped with that is available on PBS now to watch or on Amazon called Jews of the Wild West :)
its nice meeting other people who have had similar experiences! it's definitely worth it and I love being jewish it's just hard when there are absolutely no resources around. plus ik a lot of small town/rural jews have gone through a lot of trauma from antisemitism. not sure if you've experienced that either. a lot of the things you've mentioned sound so similar to my experiences, especially not relating to the "jewish experience" at all.
I think every jew is aware that we are a minority but some have no idea what that actually feels like. experiencing it, even if for just a little bit, is really important because it teaches us to appreciative what we have and how to get creative. people should see for themselves how hard it is being jewish in non-jewish places as well as how joyful it can be. like I cant express how much fun it is meeting another jew when there's maybe 10 in the whole town.
also I'll totally check out that documentary! I love jews and also cowboys so it sounds awesome to me

i hope your neighbors quiet down! what do you think would happen with bucktommy at antiques roadshow
hold up. AU where they meet because buck has entered antiques roadshow to get his cool 17th century haunted amulet appraised and tommy is the guy doing the intake forms and he's like first of all this was made in 1992 at the earliest. second of all there's no such thing as spirits. and buck is like excuse me can i speak to your manager? and tommy's like ?? this is a volunteer gig. this is for PBS. this is as low budget as it gets. and buck is like i have papers guaranteeing its authenticity. and tommy takes the papers and they literally don't say anything of the sort but buck is cute when he's all worked up so tommy just sighs and waves him through. it turns out they were both wrong; the amulet was a replica of a 17th century amulet but it was made in the 20s for someone in the occultist scene and also it is actually haunted but they don't find this out until they're hooking up in a stall in the bathroom and the door seals itself shut and tommy has to use the tools available to him (dismantled toilet paper holder) to break them out while buck gets googly-eyed over his flexing forearms. the amulet is appraised at $700, since it's a replica, but the appraisal doesn't cover the spirit.

Do you have any nature documentaries you would recommend? I find a lot of them too sensationalized and not informative enough for my tastes
I think 'Nature' on PBS is like. THE best single show overall. It's been running since as long as I can remember and has a ton of episodes (most of the older seasons aren't available anymore though). It has different people involved with each production can have pretty significant variety in tone and approach, so some episodes are kinda flops but it never really falls into that wild crazy over-sensationalized end of the spectrum (just like. goofy or boring at worst). A lot of the time they tend to follow specific wildlife biologists working with the subject matter so you get an especially detailed look and expert perspectives involved. You can watch a good deal of them for free on the PBS website/youtube channel but some require a PBS subscription (I haven't found them streaming for free elsewhere)
BBC tends to make some of the the better nature docs out of the major networks like I think Planet Earth (and its sequel), Blue Planet (and its sequel), Frozen Planet, and Seven Worlds One Planet are all very good. BBC 'The Mating Game' falls into all the silliness one might expect but is also pretty solid and stood out to me because I realized I had NEVER seen homosexual behavior depicted in a nature documentary (depicts pair bonded female albatross at one point)
Prehistoric Planet is also excellent on the off chance you haven't seen it (there can be some nitpicks on like anatomical accuracy and the feasibility of some of the speculative behavior but this is like BY FAR by best quality dinosaur media I've ever seen).
I also accumulated a small playlist of nature docs on youtube that I thought were solid a couple years back. You can find some really good stuff available for free on youtube like there's a TON of nature docs out there, a lot of them pretty niche stuff or low budget but solid independent projects (just make sure you have a functional ad blocker because they're generally uploaded by specific channels laden with ads for the revenue)

The next era of “Sesame Street” streaming rights are here, with the beloved kids series heading to PBS Kids and Netflix. New episodes of “Sesame Street” as well as library episodes will be available to watch on Netflix worldwide, and new episodes will also release the same day on both PBS stations and on PBS Kids.
The news comes months after HBO and Max opted not to renew their deal, which saw new episodes head to HBO before airing on PBS. The deal had been in place since 2016, but came to an end in 2024 as part of a strategy shift for Max as the streamer focuses more on adult and family programming.

Upcoming updates from PB 11/13
Tumblr media
So they decided to renew Belphie's Selfie card, which idk I liked the other one due to the pose. I haven't seen the full body for this illustration so I'm undecided whether or not I will prefer it over his OG one.
And upgrades in the future? I think the only thing they could fix is Bath Mammon being a ken doll when all of his clothes are removed cause it looks??? Odd? lol The other updates include telling us about Satan's banner being up until 12/12 along with evolve perks (now someone else can answer this for me if possible but are they saying that evolve rewards aren't available when they end up in the normal banner and only available if you pull multiples during the chance up banner?)
Also, opportunities to get bonus seals in the shop. And them fixing up that monthly resource package purchase issue. Other than that, I'm stoked to read the prologue ya'll for Satan's torture card. Sounds like so far it's going to be different and we get Ronove interactionnnnnnnn~

PBS' Great Performances currently has the pro-shot "Next To Normal" available to stream through the PBS app or website, just thought you might like to know and spread the word. Also, while people are at it they should support PBS since it's under attack by the current administration.
This is true, and I won't get into why I was desperate for this production to transfer to Broadway in the fall because it has nothing to do with the production itself and everything to do with what it would mean for another revival's casting. But I digress.
Next to Normal is currently streaming on PBS through 6/30/2025. It is the first of several shows to be airing in May. It was filmed in the West End and stars Caissie Levy in a heavily modified/censored presentation (specifically done for the broadcast).
Yellow Face premieres this Friday, May 16, 2025. Daniel Dae Kim stars as an Asian American playwright who protests “yellowface” casting in the musical “Miss Saigon” only to mistakenly cast a white actor as the Asian lead in his own play. Kim is nominated for a Tony this season and is the first AAPI actor in his category to have this honor.
On May 18, Tosca with Lise Davidsen and Freddie De Tommaso will premiere. This is a Met Opera production and was first filmed as part of the opera's Live in HD series.
Girl from the North Country premieres on May 23. This proshot was filmed in April 2022 (I was there). The production opened and closed on Broadway three times due to pandemic-related reasons. It stars Mare Winningham, Luba Mason, Jeannette Bayardelle, and many others.
Another West End show, Kiss Me, Kate starring Stephanie J. Block and Adrian Dunbar premieres May 30. This production was directed by Bartlett Sher and choreographed by Anthony Van Laast, and ran in the West End last summer.
Recently, the current administration head has signed an executive order “to cease Federal funding for NPR and PBS." A reminder that executive orders are NOT policy in and of themselves. That's not how any of this works. However, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting said last week that the Department of Education has ended a federal grant that would have funded vital children's programs.
PBS and NPR have stated that they will be fighting these orders in court. At this time, please support these services in any way you can, including just by watching their programming. A demonstrated interest and "value" is imperative.

Day at the races | PB&JJ
A/N: my new favorite headcanon is that Johnny and Joaquin do races and argue over who's the fastest so now here's a small thing about that, I also did no distinction between Sam's team and Bucky's team because I didn't want here I just refer to them as the Avengers.
This was supposed a funny little thing but it ended up being longer than I intended lol, sorry I just see this group happening and it makes me excited.
Tumblr media
It was a beautiful quiet day in New York, a weird occurrence when you are a superhero and you save the city-and the world-for a living so nobody mentioned anything about it in fear of jinxing it.
Johnny didn't know where his family was, ever since they arrived to this new universe it had been a long adjustment process, especially because here they had a shit tom of superheroes scattered around the world and space whereas back home the Fantastic Four were the only superheros available to protect the Earth.
At first Johnny wasn't thrilled to share the spotlight, but it was all worth it because now he had three friends who were keeping him company while the rest of their teams were enjoying the unusual free day they were given.
"All I'm saying I'm faster than you" Johnny told Joaquin who was sitting in front of him "I could burst into flames right now and fly away just to prove my point."
Peter rolled his eyes, he was working on a science project on the coffee table with the help of Bob. Peter didn't remember how this I'm the fastest banter started, but by now he was used to this. Johnny was like this sometimes.
"My new suit can absorb energy and use it to make me go faster" Joaquin replied "I'm pretty sure I could use the heat coming out of you to beat you."
"That wouldn't happen because I'd be nowhere near you." Johnny chuckled.
"You're right, I would leave you so far behind me." Joaquin chuckled back.
"You really wanna test that out?" Johnny challenged him getting up from his spot on the couch.
"Let's go" Joaquin agreed "the first one who makes it to the statue of liberty and back here to the tower wins."
Joaquin and Johnny both ran to get their suits, if they were doing it, they were going to do it right. Bob and Peter just continued to work on whatever project Peter had now for college, knowing about the tiny apartment he lived in he sometimes used the space at the tower for his experiments, Johnny even offered him Reed's new lab although it wasn't his lend, Peter knew that so he declined the offered.
"Parker" Johnny got Peter's attention "take out your phone, you're taking the time."
The four men made their way to the tallest part of the tower, both Joaquin and Johnny barely gave Peter enough time to start the chronometer on his phone it was like they were up in the air in less than a second.
"Why do we still hang out with them?" Bob asked Peter as they look their friends fly away in yet another silly competition.
"I don't know."
Meanwhile Joaquin and Johnny took the sky flying over the buildings trying their best to make it to the statue of liberty and back as soon as possible. Joaquin wouldn't admit it, but he hoped it would rain, he never really paid attention at how fast Johnny actually was until now.
It was a close race both of them making it to the statue at the same time, the real deal breaker would be at who makes it back to the tower first.
They both hit the ground again at the same time, maybe Johnny winning over Joaquin by a few seconds but still it was a very close race.
"Now, how much time did it take?" Johnny walked over to Peter.
"Five minutes" Peter showed him his phone.
"We can do much better than that" Johnny huffed, making Bob's eyes roll, it was always the same.
"What do you say same time next week?" Joaquin said "maybe we can better our time".
Of course they had forgotten about the race and started a new challenge like it always happen when Johnny started any competition.
"Yeah" Johnny agreed with a high five "maybe sentry can join us this time."
"I really wish I could guys, but you know I still have no full control on...you know." Bob shrugged.
"Yeah, we know" Peter assured him putting a hand on his back "but we believe in you and whatever you need you know you can count on us too."

I just watched the PBS "Great Performances" recording of Next to Normal. Wow.
I saw Next to Normal during its original Broadway run, and again by a very small touring company. I haven't seen the show in its entirety since then, but I've got the soundtrack in active rotation.
This performance didn't suck me in immediately. I suppose it's because I'm comparing it to the memory and long-term exposure to the original cast recording. But when Diana was having her opening manic episode that comes to a crisis with making sandwiches on the floor, it didn't feel shocking in-and-of-itself. If I didn't know what was going on, I feel like I would have said "What's the big deal?" when the rest of the characters treated it so seriously. Plus, and maybe it's just because I'm so much older now, but Gabe in the original show had a presence which I just didn't feel here.
But that changed as the show went along. I'd say the first moment that hit me was during "I Am the One" as Diana and Dan are arguing while Gabe intermixes, and the camera suddenly cut to a shot of Natalie huddling at the top of the stairs. That was perfect camerawork because it transformed everything from a musical performance, to two parents arguing while their daughter hides in her room and hears EVERYTHING.
That was a perfect exploitation of the recorded format. Natalie was probably visible on the stairs in the theater version I saw, but I didn't notice her because my attention was on the singing actors.
Later in the show I felt Doctor Madden in a way I never had before. I don't know what the actor did, but I felt a passion and an energy from him that's not in the original cast recording. After the treatments have failed and her delusions return, Diana decides to embrace them and abandon all further treatments, and Madden is trying so hard to keep her from giving up. He's throwing out new treatment methods, alternative options, bringing back stuff they've tried before, all to get her to keep trying. He's pleading like a man who wants to save a life. It's not Professional Concern, it's real human caring.
The part that hit me the hardest was the "I Am the One" reprise. That's always one of the hardest hits in the show (always), but with the camera focus on Gabe it felt downright sinister this time. I've never given any serious consideration to the "Gabe is a real spirit and not just a delusion or manifestation of guilt" theory, but this just may have convinced me. He seems almost predatory as he lurks and attaches himself to Dan. With the way he was crouched on top of the table he almost looked like he was about to leap at Dan.
The recording isn't perfect, of course. The swearing censorship is clunky and obvious, and at times breaks both the flow of dialogue/lyrics and also the emotional impact of what's being said. Plus the censorship of "sucks" to "stinks" is just stupid. But that's the nature of the beast when a show is prepared for TV broadcast.
The recording is available to stream in its entirety on the PBS website until 6/30/25.

Unhinged Democrat Propaganda Network PBS Compares Elon Musk to Pol Pot, Mao and Stalin By Speculating With No Evidence About Possible Deaths that Theres No Proof Occurring Due to USAID Cuts That Doge Didn't Implement.
youtube
PBS are fucking retarded. DOGE didn't "make cuts to USAID", DOGE gathered data made available to them by the administration, analyzed that data and made recommendations of things that can be cut to the Department of State, headed by Marco Rubio, who then can act on those recommendations or not.
Also, PBS is making the "death toll" numbers up. Theres no proof of any death being linked to USAID cuts.
This is why PBS deserves to be defunded.

Alex Weprin at THR:
Netflix is stepping in to save Sesame Street. The streaming giant has inked a deal with Sesame Workshop for new episodes of the long-running children’s show, just months after Warner Bros. Discovery opted not to renew its output deal for the program in a strategic shift at its streaming service Max (which will soon return to being HBO Max). In a notable change from the HBO deal, new episodes of Sesame Street will also run day and date on PBS and the PBS Kids app, ensuring that they are easily accessible. Sesame Street has been available on PBS for more than 50 years, though during the HBO deal, the episodes debuted on PBS months after their HBO premieres. [...] The Netflix deal begins later this year with season 56 of the program. Season 56 will be reimagined, with the show dropping its magazine style format in favor of a longer segment, joined by a new animated element called Tales From 123. The new season will be released in three “batches,” Netflix says. Sesame Workshop has been seeking a new home for the show since the HBO talks ended (some of the Sesame Street library will remain on HBO Max), and the nonprofit has faced a budget crunch, forcing layoffs earlier this year.
Sesame Street is still alive, as it inks a new streaming deal with Netflix, and will also remain on PBS (the show’s original home). As for PBS, the show’s episodes will air on the same day as Netflix’s on the linear feed and the PBS Kids app, unlike what their deal with HBO had, in which that deal had their episodes air on a several-months delay from their original HBO/Max airing.

I’m sure you’ve already seen that the Monte Cristo Series has been bought by UKTV. Now I have my hopes up I will be lucky to get it aired in Germany as well (although I’ve already seen it by now). https://corporate.uktv.co.uk/newsroom/the-count-of-monte-cristo-to-premiere-in-the-uk-on-u-and-uanddrama
Your ask was received around the same time I found out! (Another article popped up on my Google app).
It's good and bad news at the same time, bc they could not have chosen a worse channel to air it in UK (I had to look up what the hell UKTV was, I'm not sure anyone even watches it, I thought it was the type of channel that airs old shows like Only Fools and Horses and similar). I was hoping for BBC or ITV. Even Sky would have been better, bc they would at least give it some promotion.
Anyway, I hope German release will be confirmed soon! A significant part of Europe is German speaking. It's funny that they confirmed those Eastern European countries, we're supposed to be the poor relations! (I'm from Slovakia). But I'm glad my mum will get to see it on the Czech channel.
TVE in Spain
RTS in Switzerland (we know that already)
Nordic PSB alliance (comprising SVT, NRK, DR, YLE, and RUV) (we know about SVT arleady)
TVE in Spain (that's for you @andreabaideas)
TVP in Poland
TV2 in Hungary
Ceska TV in Czech Rep (this means that it's watchable in Slovakia too)
Also from the Variety article that covered this: PBS Masterpiece in the US
ETA: No idea why I mentioned Spain twice.

What's the secret to Sidney Crosby's success?
Always eat a strawberry PB&J on game day… and have unwavering dedication, unparalleled work ethic, and exceptional talent.
With Sidney Crosby appearing in his 1,200th NHL contest on Saturday in San Jose, I wanted to ask how his game-day routine has evolved in the years since that first one to help keep him playing at such an elite level.
Because as Mike Sullivan said, that’s not an easy thing to do – and it's a testament to Crosby’s drive, his will to win, his desire to be the best, and his willingness to put the time in and make the sacrifices so that he can continue to sustain that type of play.
At first, Crosby laughed good-naturedly – because we all know how superstitious and routine-based the captain is – and half-joked that there might not be much there. Most of it has stayed the same, particularly his on-ice warmup routine heading into puck drop. "Whether it’s preparing for a game or just a typical game day, (my routines) just allow me to feel good about going out there and doing what I need to do," he said.
But there has been a tweak here and there to the captain’s preparations now that he’s 36, particularly when it comes to what he does in the mornings. Unless the Penguins have the day off before a game, the morning skate is always optional – and in recent years, Crosby has chosen to stay off the ice.
“You look to conserve that energy a little bit more,” he said. “As much as I like getting on the ice in the morning, it’s good if you can just take that opportunity to do other things and still get a little bit of sweat – get ready for the night, but still conserve some energy at the same time. It's always a balancing act.”
Instead of skating, Crosby will take his stick and gloves and find a quiet area of the rink to do some solo stickhandling, which helps him loosen up a bit. He’ll also take part in the first soccer game of the day with Bryan Rust, Jake Guentzel, Erik Karlsson, Marcus Pettersson, and Rickard Rakell. Sometimes, Noel Acciari will join them, depending on if they do 3-on-3 or 2-on-2.
“We’re just kicking it around, but it can get pretty intense,” Crosby said before adding with a grin, “Sometimes, I wonder if I expend more energy in soccer than I would in morning skate. It just depends on the day, maybe.”
After grabbing lunch to go, when he gets home in the afternoons, Crosby’s nap has gotten shorter as he’s gotten older. “I used to sleep like, two and a half hours when I was younger. But a little harder to do that now,” he smiled. But Crosby still isn’t a big coffee drinker, since natural adrenaline gets the job done when it comes to waking up. “I feel like I get pretty amped up, so I don't need that. I’ve had some caffeine before, and I don’t think it’s good for me,” Crosby laughed.
When it comes to the food Crosby fuels himself with, on a game day the players have the same menu available to them both at home and on the road for their breakfast, lunch, and pregame meal/snack, so he sticks to his routine for those … down to the strawberry PB&J that HBO filmed him making during their 24/7 Penguins/Capitals Road to the Winter Classic series.
But Crosby doesn’t eat as much steak the night before games compared to his early years in the league, especially on the road. “That changed a little bit. Other than that, as long as it's somewhat healthy, I just try to make sure I get a good meal,” Crosby said.
There’s obviously a lot more that goes on behind the scenes, both inside and outside of a game day, that Crosby does to set himself up for success.
“All the subtle things he does – for me, that's the most impressive aspect of his overall body of work. A lot of it goes unseen,” Sulivan said. “That's why I've always said on so many occasions that it's not by accident this guy's as good as he is. Yeah, he's talented, he's gifted, and all of those things, but he maximizes every opportunity that he has to be at his best. I think that commitment, in my experience of being around the game, has been unmatched by any other player I've seen.”
And that’s because Crosby’s passion for the sport is something else that’s remained the same.
“I love it just as much as I did Game 1,” he said. “It’s a lot of hockey, and just grateful I’ve been able to play this long.”
