A quiet morning in the house was a rare occasion. The boys were asleep and Vincent had carried Renee to bed where she fell peacefully into slumber. During his errands, Vincent visited a patisserie to surprise Renee with some freshly baked pastries.

Being a dad reminded Vincent of his childhood, but the Nancy memories subconsciously returned. How long has it been since he last saw her? It must have been 15 years now; he's not seen her for half of his life. For a short time, Nancy meant everything to him, and today only fragments of her remained.

At the patisserie entrance, his eyes focused on the menu and what to purchase. But his mind lingered on his past and Nancy. How is she doing? Did she end up becoming a chef and opening her restaurant? Does she have kids now, like himself?

Perhaps he was pondering the pastries for long, because a man with a heavy French accent made some suggestions, "Excusez-moi sir, you look lost in the menu! I recommend trying the mille-feuille. C’est délicieux." He thanked the man, who left abruptly and then ordered.

"So strange," Vincent considered. He hadn't thought about Nancy since being Renee, but he was suddenly wondering about her life. Nancy was such a prominent part of his teenage years and for them to completely lose contact was baffling. If they ever meet again, he hopes to rekindle their friendship. Maybe he could meet her partner. And if she has kids, maybe they could meet his own.

Okay so here's the thing; I've seen a bunch of posts mainly on tiktok saying basically that if people couldn't handle Viv and Fenris they shouldn't be complaining that the characters in Veilguard aren't angry, mean or complex enough and like. Guys.

Do you really think toning characters down is the answer here? Do you think anyone learns anything from that?

Like I get your point but also...people who complain/can't deal with characters that are complex should not be pandered to. And quite honestly they'll never learn if they are. They'll only ever be able to deal with sanatised and completely non-problematic guys.
