okay I know that I just really love lists
but as someone who travels semi-regularly and also needs to bring a lot of things everywhere because I'm disabled/chronically pained/chronically in need of distractions, etc.
lists are so important
you can make a generic travel items list in your google docs, so that anytime you need to go somewhere, you have an easy checklist
honestly you can do this for simple trips too
because leaving the house for me is really different from abled people
I need my seat cushion, meds, chargers for my medical devices, braces, wedges, cushions, water, snacks to eat with meds, journal/art supplies/books for distractions, and on and on
and it can really negatively affect my outing if I forget just one of those things (memory issues and brain fog certainly don't help)
so go forth! make lists! keep them in an easily accessible place! print them and tape them to your bedroom door!
it could save you some pain and fatigue in the future

5 self-care tips🤍
Tumblr media
the practice of self-care is an act of self-love. Practicing healthy habits that are good for us is extremely important for overall health. So here are some tips on how to apply self-care to your routine!
1 . take a break from social media
Swap the hours and hours online for other habits. Social media is great for sharing fun moments, chatting with friends and interacting with new people, but its uncontrolled use has brought serious problems, such as addiction and dependency. Try replacing the internet with new activities, such as reading a book, exercising, or practicing hobbies, such as cooking or sports.
Tumblr media
2 . take care of your food
having a good diet is essential, choosing foods rich in protein and fiber makes all the difference. This does not mean that you should deprive yourself of some food, but consume them in a balanced way, so that your body stays healthy.
Tumblr media
3. set up a skin care routine
it may seem silly, but skin care is an important moment in the self-care routine, in addition to helping with self-esteem, it is a moment of affection with ourselves. Before starting a skin care routine, look for a dermatologist, so that he can recommend ideal products for your skin.
Tumblr media
4 . practice physical exercises
It is recommended that we practice 150 minutes of physical activity per week, a simple amount, but an extremely important one. When we talk about physical activity, it is not directly linked to bodybuilding, you can choose an activity that you like, that way you will feel like practicing.
Tumblr media
5 . Have a good night of sleep
It is during sleep that the body performs the main restorative functions of the body, so we always hear about the importance of having a good night's sleep. Don't stay without rest to prioritize other matters, your body needs that moment.

*** Travel Packing Tips ***
I find it so hard to NOT overpack since I'm always thinking "What if i need this" or "What if i pee myself and I need a sixth pair of underwear". But don't worry, it wont happen LOL!
If you have a hard time doing the same thing try traveling with only a carry on bag so you're not tempted to overpack. Rolling up your clothes helps to make more room in your luggage as well. If you can, pack more toiletries.
If it's already a tight fit and you are packing shoes, try stuffing smaller things into your shoes. And if you're really up for it, you can even put on extra layers to and from your destination. Only recommend doing this if you're not going somewhere hot.

Part two - Packing for the long trip
If you don’t already have a suitcase, choose carefully! One friend had her suitcase burst open, another had one wheel break. Two big, hard to carry, maneuver and stow, too small you can’t take what you need. There are so many types of suitcase out there, you have to choose which one is right for you.
Start looking on Amazon, you don’t have to buy it from Amazon, but it’s a great place to research. See what is out there, what do other people think? Does it come in the colors you want? Wheels / no wheels? How big. Soft or hard? Whatever you pick, don’t go cheap. Thrifty is always good, but this is one of those times when quality will tell over time.
One more important point, the heavier the suitcase is, the less you can put in it. Airlines have weight limits, and there will be times when you will have to carry it, even if it has wheels (cobblestones will wreck havoc on your wheels for instance).
My Vagabond and I have been traveling together for over 40 years. Back in 1984, he did the research and we bought our first set of EAGLE CREEK suitcases. Note: I am not sponsored but would gladly do commercials for this company. Out first EAGLE CREEK bags are a two piece set. The small bag could be secured easily to the bigger and go through as one, or used as a separate day bag, carry on. They are heavy duty fabric (we chose dark Blu so dirt doesn’t show easily). The big bags also have straps that can come out so it can be a backpack or shoulder carry as well. At some point after many miles, mine developed a minor zipper issue. Customer service was wonderful, we sent it off, they fixed it and got it right back to us. Don’t have any pictures with me, but these things are amazing. Did you notice this is all in present tense? We still have them and use them in the van (why do we need suitcases in the van? That’s yet another story).
In 2010, my Vagabond took me on a trip to Rome, Italy. Oh my! I love that place! We had many wonderful adventures, great food, took too many photos and decided as we are getting older, we want wheels. Once again my Vagabond to the rescue. He spent lots of time researching bags not just EAGLE CREEK. What did we end up with, you guessed it, EAGLE CREEK. Our current bags have all the features of the originals, with the addition of wheels and retractable handles.

Once you obtain your suitcase, how do you pack it? Lay everything out next to the suitcase. Packing cubes are helpful if you have them. In the bad old days, I used large ziplock bags. Roll your clothes they take less space and usually look nicer when you take them out. If your using zip locks, sit on the bag before you close it. Get as much air out as you can. Packing cubes? Fill them up as much as you can. I have three, one large and two smaller, I am just using the smaller cubes this time.
The first picture shows my bottom layer, I moved the jeans and added my tennis shoes initially as I started out wearing hiking boots. They were not practical, we cheated a little and sent a box back. Take advantage of any odd shaped spaces. I line the bottom of my suitcase between the handle rails, with small things. Do you see the clear bag? It’s waterproof so liquids go in there. I always put it on the end that will be on the bottom when the suitcase is standing on its wheels. The little black pouch at the front and red plush bag contain charge and plug adapters as well as some duplicate cables and the charger for my camera battery. Fill up any shoes, whether it’s that big jar of vitamins or just extra socks, don’t waste any space. Alcohol wipes are very handy and yes, I have tea.
The red bag in the second layer opens out and hangs up with my toiletries. I will admit to sticking other stuff in. We each have one of these and use them in the van as well. The two bigger tan pouches contain beads and a few bead working tools (this is also where I put my mini sewing kit). The smaller tan pouch has whatever doesn’t have another place. The Teal green and grey thing is my down vest. You can see my packing cubes. Once you have everything in, cinch those straps tight, that’s what they are there for. Close your suitcase carefully. Make sure zippers meet ahead of the zipper pull. Don’t be tempted to use the zipper to force it, you may be sad later.
Once you have your final pack and the suitcase is closed (hopefully a few days before you leave), open it back up and take a picture, remove a layer and take another picture, do this till you get to the bottom. No I don’t imagine you will want to write a blog post just like this one, the pictures will simplify repacking as you travel ( if you remember to tag them so you can find them later….)
Tumblr media
One more picture, this is my portable clothesline. I mentioned it the other day. Easy to attach anywhere and you just open a twist to hang whatever, no clothes pins required.
Any questions so far class? Would you like to see individual pictures of anything? Next post in this series will probably be on traveling with electronics.
Have an awesome day, and if you read this far, thank you. Let me know what you think
